Waking up can be rough - but not quite as rough as getting dressed on mornings like these. The Big Issue With Sale Shopping That No One Talks About
Like any good bargain shopper, I've experienced the strain of navigating crazy sample sales and I've felt the high of somehow scoring the bag I wanted at half the price. I've been lucky enough to scoop up some of my favorite pieces - a Mansur Gavriel bag, Prada boots, even an Alexander Wang dress with the tags still on - in my time as a smart shopper. The fact is that many of the clothes I love are things I could never afford, unless I'm lucky enough to find them somewhere with at least one markdown. So I've devoted myself to the art of shopping smart, with plenty of rewarding results.
Still, despite my devotion to sale shopping my way to my dream wardrobe, there's a dark side to my favorite hobby: buyer's remorse. With sales, it's not uncommon to find exactly what you want, but in the wrong size or color. I can't tell you the number of times I've stared hopelessly at some piece I've been eyeing for months, convincing myself that even though I barely got it on, it will fit fine once I'm home.
With any full-priced item, it's easier to be picky - to hold out for what you really want - to make it worth your money. But when something is on sale, that dangerous question arises, what are we willing to sacrifice for a great deal? There are plenty of times when half a shoe size doesn't really matter - so buy the heels! But there will always be those items that sit sadly in the back of my closet, impulse buys gone awry.
After making the mistake of buying something that just wasn't quite right, I've finally found respite in setting a few boundaries. I've learned to remember that there's a difference between want and need: a great discount doesn't justify buying another pair of skinny jeans. I've also learned to wise up about investing in something that isn't the right size because it will never fit right (unless you know a magical tailor - then size up). Lastly, I've learned that a wardrobe is a work in progress. It's OK to hold off from buying the first leather jacket you find, because inevitably one you love will arrive one day, and you'll regret just going with the one you sorta-kinda like.
I'll always support a trip to a sample sale, or taking a chance to treat yourself when you find something you really love at a discount, but learning not to binge when it comes to sale shopping will leave you with less stress and more money - a win-win, right?

4 Poses, 4 Minutes, and Your Hips and Back Will Thank You
If you have the ever-popular office job that involves sitting at a desk for eight hours a day, it can wreak havoc on your precious body, creating tight hips and lower back pain. Many stretches for your hips also stretch out your lower back, so these poses are like two for the price of one. It will only take about four minutes, but that's all you'll need to ease tension.
Butterfly
- Sit on the floor, bend both knees, and bring your feet together. Using your hands, open your feet up like a book, pressing your knees toward the floor with your elbows. If you want more of a stretch, extend your arms out in front of you.
- Stay here for five breaths (about 30 seconds).
Half Happy Baby
- Lie flat on your back. Bend the left knee and hold onto the outside edge of your flexed foot with your left hand. Keep your left arm on the outside of your leg.
- Gently use your upper body strength to press the left knee to the floor below your armpit. Try not to tense your shoulder or chest, but keep everything relaxed.
- Stay like this for five deep breaths, and then switch legs.
- Then do both legs together for another five breaths.
Pigeon
- Sit with your right knee bent and your left leg extended straight behind you. If your hips are flexible, inch your right foot away from you. Make sure your left hip is always pointing down toward the mat. If it begins to open up toward the ceiling, draw your right foot back in toward your body.
- Rest your hands on your hips or walk your hands out in front of you, allowing your torso to rest over your right knee.
- Hold here for five breaths, and then repeat Pigeon on the left side.
Double Pigeon
- Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you. Bend your right knee and place your knee, shin, and foot on the floor so they're parallel with your pelvis. Bend your left knee and place it on top so your knees, shins, and ankles are stacked. You'll know you're doing it right when you gaze down and see that your legs make a little triangle.
- To make this pose more intense, place your hands in front of your shins and walk them out as far as you can, folding your chest toward your legs.
- Stay here for five breaths, slowly release, and then switch legs so your right knee is on top.

This New Ink Trend Will Take the Most Simple Tattoo From Basic to Brilliant
Getting inked is an everlasting commitment. Your goal might be to get a tattoo that stands out, but drawing inspiration from common trends like Disney-inspired designs can result in regrettable copycat ink. Alternatively, you can try innovative techniques like watercolor patterns to customize popular designs, but many want a design that is truly one of a kind. The black-light tattoo trend is a sneaky way to get a more basic decal while still managing to color outside the lines.
Using UV ink, your skin is etched in a pattern that is practically invisible when viewed in daylight unless it's paired with a black design. The magic happens when your design is lit under a UV lamp - your tattoo glows in the dark! The transformation can change even the tiniest, simplest tattoo into a mystical masterpiece. Keep reading to get inspired by the cool styles.
Beyoncé Never Met a Wind Machine She Didn't Like
It's very rare to see Beyoncé without her waist-grazing locks. That's because the extra length allows her to get the hair whip effect when she's belting out the lyrics to her No. 1 hits. This weekend she'll be on stage with Coldplay at the Super Bowl in San Francisco, and there are sure to be multiple wind cues. Take a look back at Mrs. Carter's best performance hair moments. Goodness knows she can flip, whip, shake, and blow her mane like no other. Perhaps you'll be inspired to do some hairography of your own with "Grown Woman" on repeat.
Get an Exclusive Look at Marvel's Newest Comic Book: Mockingbird
Even more notable? You can thank an all-female team for creating this series. The writer behind it is Chelsea Cain, a bestselling author who made sure Mockingbird stands out from the rest of the comic world. "I wanted to make sure to play up [Mockingbird's] sardonic wit," Cain said in an email. "I also wanted to make more of her science smarts. Mostly I wanted to give her a point of view."
Currently, Mockingbird has only appeared in other characters' stories and in one spinoff story as part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th anniversary special. Not all of her ideas were all right by Marvel, though. Cain mentioned that she wanted to give Bobbi a bunch of tattoos, but she didn't get the go ahead to do so.
Then there's the artist behind Mockingbird, Kate Niemczyk, who worked closely with Cain to give Bobbi the perfect look: a mix of prowess and femininity. "For me, Bobbi is a normal person so she moves and looks like a normal woman," said Niemczyk in an email. "There's no need to draw her in silly painful poses or like her clothes are vacuum packages."
And that type of mentality is exactly what Marvel needs, considering the backlash the company endured after its explicit drawing of Spider-Woman in 2014. Since those two years, though, Marvel has released the acclaimed Netflix series Jessica Jones, winning women over with her simple tank and jeans and her no-apologies attitude.
Fans felt similarly after the one-issue special of Mockingbird. "Suddenly, Marvel was getting all these emails saying 'We want more of that, please," said Cain. "More ladies kicking ass, thank you." For the most part, Cain doesn't think she's leading a change in the comic book world. "I'm just riding a wave," she said when speaking to seeing more of these types of comics and female teams. She does, however, hope that this series changes comics for little girls.
"I have an 11-year-old daughter. She is a huge comics nerd," said Cain. "There are a ton of girls her age who read comics. But the industry loses a lot of them in middle school. Maybe because they're generally mortified. Or maybe they catch on that there's not as much for them as they thought there was." Hopefully Mockingbird is just what they need to retain their love of comics.
Check out some exclusive artwork of the new series ahead, and be sure to pick up a copy of it when it arrives on stands March 2.

8 Savvy Ways to Update Your Wardrobe Without Spending Tons of Money
The following post was originally featured on Nany's Klozet and written by Daniela Ramirez, who is part of POPSUGAR Select Latina.
The best way to start the new year is with a "new" closet. When you clean your closet, you also get rid of old (and bad) energy, and you will feel a big difference. Having an organized closet will help you find your favorite pieces quicker and make getting dressed each morning easier.
Do a Closet Clean-Out
Start by going through everything in your closet and get ready to have five piles: keep, fix, donate, throw away, and sell. What should you keep?
Ask yourself, have I worn this in the past year? If the answer is no, you are probably not going to wear it ever again. Here's a fun trick to know if you have worn something in the past year: put your hangers backwards every time you do a clean-out. When you wear something, put it back as it should be hung normally. At the end of the year, you can clearly see what you haven't worn in a while.
Then think, why haven't I worn it? Is it damaged? Does it not fit anymore?
If it has a little hole or anything that can be fixable, put it in the fix pile. If not, throw it away. If the items are in good condition but have no significant value, donate them. If you think you can get a little money, sell them!
Forget about sentimental value (unless it's a piece of jewelry your grandmother gave you, of course). This includes that old prom dress you know you are never going to wear again or that cute dress you wore to your first date 10 years ago. Getting rid of them won't delete that amazing memory.
Remember to do a clean-out with your beauty bag, too — makeup has an expiration date, and anything older than a year should be thrown out. Wearing expired makeup can cause breakouts and allergic reactions.
Host a Wardrobe Exchange
Let's say you organized your closet and you realized you have a ton of clothes in mint condition that you never wear. What should you do? Host a wardrobe exchange with your friends. How?
- Invite a group of close friends and encourage them to invite people as well. You want to keep the group relatively small, but it's a great way to meet and bond with friends.
- Tell them to bring X amount of items. Just be clear about the fact that the pieces must be in perfect condition — clean, no holes, or stains. I recommend bringing a minimum of five pieces.
- Make it fun with appetizers and champagne.
- As soon as the people start arriving, group items by type — dresses, shirts, accessories, etc..
- If you came in with five pieces, you can take five pieces home with you.
Raid Your Mom's, Sister's, or Aunt's Closet
If you still live with your family, this is easier. However, you can even ask your crazy aunt if you can check out her clothes from the '80s and '90s — I'm sure you can find some amazing things hidden in the bottom of her closet. I did this once with my aunt and she was super excited to see me wearing something from 20 years ago. Also, think outside the box: it doesn't have to be a woman's closet, dare to borrow your dad's shirt or even your boyfriend's jeans.Find a Tailor You Trust
If you have jeans you used to love but you truly kept that New Year's Resolution to lose weight, and they are too big now; if you want to transform a midi sequin dress into a mini dress, a tailor is your BFF.Find someone in your city that you trust for all the wardrobe basics, including hemming your pants and making that sexy dress fit like a glove. Then you can ask him/her for a discount when you bring that big ole fix pile. They can transform that dress with the cute print but unflattering neckline.
Shop at Vintage/Thrift Stores
A lot of people underestimate the power of buying in thrift shops or vintage stores. First of all, everything comes back in style. Second, I love thinking that the pieces have a story, that they were carried around when the world was a different place. (Well, that might be just me. I'm a little crazy!) Third, there's a big chance nobody else will own it — vintage pieces are very unique.I've found amazing items on vintage stores. I found a pair of D&G shoes for $20, a small vintage Coach bag for $15, and silk blouses for $5.
A couple of tips:
- Wash everything as soon as you get home (no bedbugs, please!).
- Go with comfy shoes, because finding those hidden gems isn't that easy. You really have to go through piles and piles of clothes, but it is worth it.
DIY
This is the best way to update your current pieces. I often see clothes on the runway that I think might be fun to DIY. And the best part? Saying you did it yourself when people ask you, where did you get that?Sell, Sell, Sell
Why not make a little profit from cleaning out your closet? If you have pieces in perfect condition that are valuable, put them up for sale. Some options:
- Local consignment stores: I personally don't like this option, but if you want to get rid of a lot of things quick, this is a good way to do it. They are going to offer you very little money and they are very picky. I went to one called "Plato's Closet," and they rejected more than half of the things I brought and only offered me $50 for a lot of things
- eBay
- Poshmark: This is my favorite app to sell clothes. It is very easy to use and you can make great money from it. Sign up using the code "HPFVV," and you will get $10 to shop.
When Going Shopping, Think "CPU" — Cost Per Use
Last resort . . . go shopping. You deserve it after cleaning, selling, swapping, and raiding.Never go shopping without knowing what you are looking for, this leads to impulse buying (and most impulse buys end up with their tags on at the end of the closet).
Along the way, maybe you realized you needed a white blouse or a leopard scarf. So write them down. Make a list of the things you really need, and the ones you really want. We all deserve a little treat now and then.
No matter what you buy, always think CPU (cost per use): the cost of the item divided by the amount of times you will use it.
For example, let's say you find a classic LBD at Forever 21 for $30, and you only wear it twice because the fabric lost its stretch when you washed it. The CPU of the affordable dress is $15.
An even better option would be:
You save up a little more and buy an identical classic LBD for $150 that will last 5 years. Let's say you wear it five times per year (and that's nothing because you can even wear an LBD with a denim jacket for a BBQ). The CPU of this dress is $6.
Also, I have a rule that I never buy anything unless I can think of three ways I can wear it. It's all about versatile pieces you can have fun with.
Alicia Vikander Mixes 2 Colors of Pink in 1 Seriously Elegant Look
We know that Alicia Vikander is a pro at styling neutral colors, and it doesn't really come as a surprise that The Danish Girl star is equally adept at rocking bright color. To attend the Virtuosos Awards Saturday during the Santa Barbara Film Festival, Alicia wore an eye-catching Barbara Casasola ensemble that consisted of a silk tank and pants that were each varying shades of fuschia or pink.
To finish the look, Alicia and her stylist Victoria Sekrier added one more pop of color with a pair of custom-dyed satin Nudist sandals from Stuart Weitzman. Alicia also wore Ana Khouri jewels.

10 Ways to Look as Flawless as Beyoncé Every Day
I often feel that it's Beyoncé's world (one run by girls, of course), and we're just living in it. When she performed an epic set at the 2014 MTV VMAs, some of my friends were moved . . . to tears. A few claimed to be sobbing. One obsessed pal gushed, "I actually don't think I know how to live life post this performance. Every millisecond of this is perfection." Another replied, "THE FEELINGS. Pillow so wet." These are real people - and they are devoted to their queen. Now that Beyoncé will be headlining the Super Bowl, our fandom is stirred back up.
In the beauty world, we're also always looking to Beyoncé for inspiration - be it impeccable skin, soft and shimmery eye shadow, or glossy beach waves. Kate Middleton Upgrades a Favorite Coat With the Addition of Major Diamonds
Sunday morning definitely doesn't mean athleisure for the Duchess of Cambridge. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the RAF Air Cadets with a church ceremony in London Sunday, Kate showed her elevated good taste once again.
Kate brought back her favorite baby blue Alexander McQueen coat, a piece from her collection of very colorful outerwear. The Duchess finished her look with heels, a bow-adorned hat by Lock, and the sparkling Air Cadets Dacre brooch.
In December, Kate was made Honorary Air Commandant of the Air Cadets, an honor that was formerly held by Prince William's grandfather Prince Philip. Sunday's appearance was Kate's first in the new role, and surely, one to remember.
