#DemonWeave: Why Women Are Convinced Their Hair Extensions Are Cursed

There are many reasons that hair extensions have a cult following. They can enhance finer strands, act as protective styling on natural coils, and add length to a mane that refuses to grow. But some weave aficionados are starting to avoid their beloved sew-ins for a bizarre reason: they believe the hair to be cursed.

A spree of weave-related thefts and murders in Memphis, TN, caused news outlet NBC-WSMV in Nashville to investigate the dangerous world of hair extensions. The journalists' research revealed that many are convinced that the cause for these hair-raising crimes has a darker origin. A search for "cursed weave" online results in a bevy of personal accounts from women about how their hair extensions have led them to be possessed.

"[Whoever's] hair I was wearing on my head, that heifer had a bad omen and that bad omen followed her from India and came on top of my head, and I took on her spirit," said YouTube user BBWKristy Love. Some think that the hair becomes bewitched during the Hindu ritual of tonsuring. This is a religious custom for which women shave their heads entirely at a temple, then donate their strands to God. This hair is often collected and sold to create weaves.

While many of the wearers of these extensions are convinced that they may have purchased "a person's hair and their demonic spirit," some are skeptical. Members of the Christian community in Nashville don't believe that demons would inhabit wigs. "That's from animistic beliefs . . . religions and cults that practice this concept of evil spirits taking possession of evil things," Dr. Bill Adkins, pastor at Greater Imani Cathedral of Faith, told WSMV.

Anyone who has tried hair extensions knows that their attitude changes once they see their new look, but is confidence in your style really a sign of being spellbound? If that's the case, we're pretty sure our whole cosmetics collection is possessed, because we have feelings once we achieve a chiseled contour or perfectly defined cat eye.

What You Never Knew About Procrastination and How to Cure It

Some people may wonder why procrastination advice seems to never work for them and if there is a deeper issue at hand. Well, for 20 percent of the population who are chronic procrastinators, it is a serious problem that needs to be addressed, according to Joseph Ferrari, a psychology professor at DePaul University and a leading expert in the study of procrastination. For those 20 percent, telling them to just "do it" is like "telling a clinically depressed person to cheer up," says Ferrari, author of the book Still Procrastinating?.

It's a serious problem if . . .

So how do you know if you're a chronic procrastinator? "You find that you procrastinate at home, at school, at work, in relationships. You don't pay your bills on time . . . You miss sporting events, concerts because you never got the ticket," says Ferrari. "You're late for any social gathering, you'll miss doctor's appointments because you're never there on time, the refrigerator is empty because you never restock it in time, food goes bad because you never eat it on time. If you do all those kind of things, you probably are a chronic procrastinator."

How people become chronic procrastinators:

There are several factors that can lead one to becoming a chronic procrastinator. Here are a couple of them, according to the procrastination expert:

  • Your dad: "It's typically cold, demanding stern fathers that cause boys and girls to be procrastinators," Ferrari says. Children with strict dads use procrastination as a way to cope because they can't rebel.
  • You care too much about what others think of you: Some people procrastinate because they care too much about public perception. The pressure to seem perfect is particularly strong for these people. The chronic procrastinators prefer people to see them as procrastinators that don't get around to doing tasks rather than simply being incompetent.
  • Society: We live in a world where society doesn't reward punctuality. Instead, we're penalized for being late, which doesn't give any of us incentive to complete tasks ahead of time. "We punish people if they file their taxes late. We give them a bill. If we pay off our credit card late, we charge them a late fee. But what if you pay your card on time and what if you've paid your mortgage off? There's no gift here."

The cure for procrastination:

For those who have deep-rooted issues with procrastination, it seems that cognitive behavioral therapy, a type of mental health counseling, is the most effective method. This kind of psychotherapy attempts to reroute inaccurate, harmful, or negative thoughts.

Ferrari suggests a couple more ways that might help chronic procrastinators:

  • Surround yourself with doers: It's healthy for a chronic procrastinator to surround herself with people who are likely to do things. It'll be a good influence on those with a tendency to delay tasks.
  • Just start somewhere: Just take a small step at a time. For example, if you're supposed to write an essay, start with a few paragraphs, and if that's too much for you, resolve to write just one. If that's still overwhelming, stick to a couple of sentences or even a few words.
  • Set up a reward system: "People like to do things they enjoy doing," says Ferrari. He recommends rewarding yourself with something you enjoy after you complete something that you've been dreading to do. For example, reward yourself with half an hour of Desperate Housewives after doing laundry.
  • Public posting: Because procrastinators care so much about how others view them, they are more likely to do tasks when they publicly announce it. Take to Twitter, Facebook, or any other social media outlet and state the task you're going to do. Then when you've completed it, let everyone know that you've done what you set out to do. The "likes" and congratulatory tweets will feel very satisfying.

So what if I am one?

If you feel like you fit the profile of a chronic procrastinator, you may think that it's not a big deal to be one. Your life might be functioning fine, and you've made it through many of the setbacks caused by your procrastination. However, keep in mind that it may catch up with you one day, and it can get to a point where it disrupts your life and negatively impacts other people's opinion of your character. Further, it's not exactly comfortable living as a chronic procrastinator. In fact, Ferrari found that procrastinators have more regrets than nonprocrastinators for things that they didn't do. "Stop stressing yourself over it. Life is short - leave a legacy," says Ferrari. "There are too many places to see and too many things to do in life to just procrastinate and wait and living in a bubble of fear of getting it done."

The Lazy Girl's Guide to a Clean Home

If you don't enjoy cleaning, tidying up your place may feel like a time-consuming and mind-numbing task. However, there are little tricks you can do to lessen your load and expend less effort but still have a sparkling-clean residence. Here are some ways to have a clean place without cleaning:

Everything has its place: Remember that each item has its place in your home, and if it doesn't, find a spot for it. Organize your things and make sure that every time you take something from its rightful place, you always return it to where it belongs when you're done using it. You'll prevent clutter from building.

Reduce your stuff: If you have fewer possessions, you'll have less clutter to deal with. Check out our recommendations of things you should throw away today. Be mindful when shopping, and don't buy things you don't need, even if you're tempted.

Take off your shoes: Taking off your shoes before going into your home may feel strange, but it actually helps minimize cleaning time. You won't have to vacuum up and mop away all the dirt and grime that you've been stepping on all day. It goes without saying that you should also clean your pets' paws before letting them enter your home.

Have a welcome mat: Get a welcome mat so people can wipe their shoes before entering. Even if they are planning on taking off their shoes before coming in, you'll have less to clean if everyone is wiping off their shoes before placing them in your entryway.

Don't leave your windows open for too long: When airing your room, make sure that you're not leaving your windows open for too long, or dust will start to collect.

Invest in a hand vacuum: This handy piece of equipment will help cut down on cleaning time. Have a few stray hairs lying around or spilled some glitter from your DIY project? Just suck them up with a hand vacuum, and the mess will be clean in a few seconds. The hand vacuum is an investment that will pay for itself over time.

Cover your furniture: You can protect your furniture with covers so that it'll be protected from any spills or dirt on your clothing. For example, find a nice waterproof tablecloth for your table or invest in a slipcover for your couch that will be easy to throw in the wash.

Buy disinfectant wipes: Buy some disinfectant wipes so you can quickly clean up spills or maintain the cleanliness of an area. Using these wipes won't feel like you're cleaning, because it takes minimal effort.

Eat in the rightful place: Don't eat snacks all around the house, or you'll find yourself with crumbs and smears on your bed, sofa, or floor. Eat your meal properly while sitting at a table. Don't try to multitask when you're eating, or you'll end up spilling on your clothes.

Carefully consider pets: Before you jump into a long-term commitment to a furry friend, make sure that you're accounting for all the messes you'll have to clean up. If you're not keen on continually vacuuming up fur, perhaps consider breeds that don't shed much or ones that are hairless. You could also opt for a lower-maintenance pet, such as a fish.

Split up chores: Dislike cleaning? Try to trade or split up chores with your roommate or partner. Perhaps you can do the cooking instead of washing the dishes, or grocery shopping instead of vacuuming. Offer to take up other household duties in exchange for getting off scot-free when it comes to cleaning obligations.

Do you have any other tricks that help lessen your cleaning time? Share them in the comments!

19 Ways You're Wasting Money at the Grocery Store

Are you still spending too much money at the grocery store even with coupons and after reading tips on how to save money while shopping? Maybe that's because some of your own shopping habits are making you buy and spend more. Take a look at our list of bad grocery shopping habits, and get rid of them once and for all!

  1. Not checking what's left in your pantry and fridge: Before you head to the grocery store, do a quick inventory of what's left in your kitchen. Maybe that half-gallon of milk will last you through the week and you don't need to buy another gallon after all. Not checking what's left in your kitchen can make you buy more things than you actually need.
  2. Not making a grocery list: Having a grocery list can help you shop faster and, of course, get everything you need. Forgetting to buy something is not only annoying and wastes time, but it also wastes money. When is the last time you went to the store to pick up that one thing you forgot to buy and ended up with a few extra things in your basket?
  3. Avoiding crowds and shopping earlier in the week: Shopping on weekends or during busy hours can be really hectic - we get it. But not only do you buy more when you're leisurely strolling through the aisles, but also retailers put out more coupons and deals during the latter half of the week when they know there will be more customers.
  4. Bringing your kids to the store: While grocery shopping might seem like a fun family activity, it's not helping you save any money. Kids will inevitably beg you for that candy bar or sugary cereal, and you'll eventually give in.
  5. Going to the store hungry: We've all made this mistake. Going to the grocery store hungry is a surefire way to buy things you don't really need. Try not to shop with your nose, and avoid the freshly baked section if possible.
  6. Using a large shopping cart: Using a spacious shopping cart can trick your mind into buying more things than you need. Try grocery shopping with a basket or a smaller cart, and you'll be less inclined to pile things on.
  7. Buying overpriced "convenient" foods: We've all heard the saying, "time is money." But is it really? While it might save you a couple extra minutes to buy shredded carrot, sliced apples, and peeled garlic, let's compare the prices: at Safeway, peeled garlic costs $5.49 a pound, whereas unpeeled garlic costs 79 cents a pound. That's almost seven times more expensive. And with this garlic-peeling trick, you can peel a whole head of garlic in just 10 seconds, so why pay extra for convenience?
  8. Buying meat or cheese from the deli: Buying fresh meat, seafood, or cheese from the deli is usually more expensive than buying prepackaged. Unless you need a specific cut of meat that isn't in the meat section, try to avoid the deli.
  9. Not buying generic: Oftentimes, grocery stores will sell generic brands or store-brand versions to your favorite brand goods, and they will be much cheaper.
  10. Buying things fresh instead of frozen: There are some things that are worth buying fresh, but there are others that are just as good frozen. If you're buying fruits to throw into your blender for a smoothie, they don't need to be fresh. Frozen blueberries, strawberries, etc., are picked at their peak of ripeness and frozen immediately, so they taste just as good and will last longer (and keep your smoothie ice-cold!).
  11. Buying disguised water: If you're buying things like quarts of chicken stock and bottled tea, you're essentially paying extra for water. One bottle of green tea can cost between $1 and $2, whereas 20 bags (therefore, 20 servings) of green tea cost $3 to $4. An even more drastic example is chicken stock. One quart of chicken stock can cost anywhere from $2 to $4, whereas a jar of chicken base costs $3 to $6 and can make 10 quarts of stock. Plus you can also save fridge and pantry space if you buy less disguised water.
  12. Buying organic when you don't need to: Buying organic can get pricey, especially if you're buying everything organic. Knowing when to buy organic and when not to buy organic is crucial if you want to save some money. Fruits like avocado, pineapple, and watermelon don't need to be organic because their thick skins protect the flesh from pesticides, while vegetables like onions don't attract many pests at all. See the full list of foods you don't need to buy organic.
  13. Not buying seasonal goods: Buying fruits and vegetables that are in season will help you save so much money. Use this app to figure out when certain produce is in season, and plan your meals around that.
  14. Not comparing prices: Not only should you be comparing prices between different brands, but you should also be comparing the price of different sizes within a brand. Should you buy in bulk or individually? Should you buy the larger, family-sized bottle or a smaller one? Try calculating the price per pound or ounce to see which is a more frugal choice. Also retailers like to put the most expensive products at eye level, so try looking at the top or bottom shelves for better prices.
  15. Not using coupons for household essentials/staples: We're often told to use coupons with caution - buying something we don't need just because we have a coupon does not save money. But for household essentials like laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, etc., keep an eye out for coupons and stock up on those staples when they're on sale.
  16. Not taking things out at the last minute: If you're standing in line at the cash register and realize you don't really need that bag of pretzels you impulsively threw in, don't hesitate to take it out. You can either return it to the aisle or ask the cashier to take it.
  17. Impulse buying at the cash register: Oh, those candy bars and sweet snacks will forever tempt us at the cash register. But be strong and try not to grab anything at the last minute! Not only are you impulse buying, but those candy bars are often not the best price compared to buying in bulk at the candy aisle.
  18. Not bringing your reusable shopping bag: Many states are moving toward charging customers for grocery bags, and while paper bags are only 10 cents each, they sure can add up year after year. If you don't have reusable shopping bags, try making your own with a t-shirt.
  19. Not checking your receipt: Start a habit of checking your receipt to see if there were any mistakes. You can even use that time to really think about whether you need everything you just bought. Most grocery stores will accept returns for a full refund.

NASA Just Discovered 1 of the Biggest Black Holes Ever - See the Incredible GIFs

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope recently discovered one of the most massive black holes ever. Don't fret, though - it's nowhere near us so it won't be sucking you or me into its depths.

Located in Galaxy NGC 4889, which is around 300 million light years away, this black hole is 21 billion times larger than the sun. The black hole's event horizon, which the Hubble Space Telescope website defines as "the surface at which even light cannot escape its gravitational grasp," has a diameter of 130 billion kilometers.

Let's put those numbers into perspective, shall we? In our galaxy, the Milky Way's largest black hole is only 4 million times the mass of the sun, according to the Hubble Space Telescope website - meaning it doesn't come anywhere close to the one in Galaxy NGC 4889.

This black hole is also currently taking a pretty well-deserved nap. It's dormant as of now and it remains unclear when exactly it will come alive again. When it was active, an accretion disc constantly fed the black hole space items like gas and dust to give it immense energy. Yum.

Check out photos, GIFs, and videos of the black hole ahead. Take note these aren't exact photos of the black hole, since its event horizon prevents any light from escaping. These are, however, photos and videos that reveal the area in which the black hole lives. By observing how fast stars were moving (the velocity) in this area, astronomers were able to determine the very existence of the black hole. Get ready to be amazed and then check out equally incredible GIFs of Saturn and black holes merging.

Finally, You Can Use Different Reactions on Facebook

Your Facebook news feed is about to change - drastically. Facebook is rolling out "Reactions," five brand-new emoji to use instead of just the "like" button. It's an alternative to a "dislike" button that people have been wanting for years.

This includes a "Love," "Haha," "Wow," "Sad," and "Angry" emoji that will work across all types of Facebook posts, including pages and advertisements. To use it on mobile, the emoji will pop up as you hold down the "like" button, and on desktop, just hover your mouse over the "like" button.

To get these "reactions" on your phone, you need to update your current Facebook app to the latest version. Once you do, you will begin to see it on iOS, Android, and any mobile browser.

Watch a video of how it works below.

Though it's not a dislike button, it's pretty exciting to finally get a new way of reacting to posts. Zuckerberg echoed these sentiments in a Facebook post when the company was first testing the product. "Reactions gives you new ways to express love, awe, humor and sadness," he wrote. "It's not a dislike button, but it does give you the power to easily express sorrow and empathy - in addition to delight and warmth."

Keep reading to see photos of how it will look like on a variety of posts.

Alessandra Ambrosio Just Went Blond For the Balmain Paris Fashion Show

Attention: Alessandra Ambrosio is a blonde. In an unexpected twist, Olivier Rousteing just sent models down the runway for his Balmain Fall 2016 show during Paris Fashion Week in swapped hair colors: all the famous blondes (Gigi Hadid and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley included) stepped on the runway as brunettes, while all our favorite brown-haired girls went golden. But of all the shocking transformations brought by this fashion show, Alessandra's was definetely the best.

After seeing pictures of the Brazilian supermodel walking in a gorgeous powdery pink long-sleeved bodysuit and sheer lacy pants, both filled with ruffles, we're convinced Alessandra needs to keep this new hair color, which we're hoping is not a wig. It takes just a quick comparison to the dark hairstyle she sported a few days ago at the Vanity Fair Oscars red carpet to see Alessandra looks shockingly different but just as incredibly beautiful. Keep scrolling to see for yourself.

Ellie Goulding Shows Us the Kickass Ab Move We All Need to Do

Kelly Clarkson on Her Emotional Idol Performance: "I Was on a Slip and Slide From Hell"

Kelly Clarkson stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday and opened up about her heartbreaking final performance on American Idol last week. Kelly, who won the very first season of the singing competition show, told Ellen that because the song, which is about her absent father growing up, is so emotional and because she is so heavily pregnant, she never really had a chance at getting through it. "It's incredibly sad, but hopeful . . . because a lot of us didn't have a bar to set as far as finding love and relationships," she said. "My little girl was there and my little boy was like turning circles in my stomach. It was nostalgic. It was the last time I was gonna be on Idol and it's ending. I was screwed from the get-go." The singer, who is currently expecting her second child with husband Brandon Blackstock, also couldn't help but gush about her adorable daughter River. See what she had to say in the full clip above, then check out 12 times Kelly's cover was better than the original songs.

Exclusive! Get the Most Badass Brows of Your Life With MAC's New Line

When we're looking to master a beauty trend, one makeup brand's expertise (and its army of professionals!) comes to mind: MAC Cosmetics. The team taught us how the "kitten paws" technique makes strobing look flawless, tricks for contouring every skin tone and face shape, and what to avoid when doing our own makeup for headshots. Now that bold brows are here to stay, MAC is advising us on how to get amazing arches with its newest collection, Brows Are It!

The brand tapped Damone Roberts, brow expert and beauty therapist (and former MAC artist!), as a consultant on developing this line. "I worked for MAC 20 years ago and I learned so much," gushed Roberts. "Then I went out to really explore the brow business because I saw how important it was. There are so many brow products out there, but they aren't the right products - they're just products that say 'eyebrows' on them."

The arch guru was adamant in his mission to achieve a range of formulas and hues that would work for everyone. "Your skin can be the palest pale to the darkest dark, and we'll have a shade for you," Roberts said. He worked with MAC to create eight new products, including brushes, powder duos, and three types of pencils, in an incredible variety of colors.

It's easy to be overwhelmed by your options when it comes to makeup in this category, and it's especially difficult to determine your perfect arch hue. Roberts recommends that you look at your roots. "Even if you're blond, your base is deeper. You want to match to the deeper base to your brow color," he suggested.

However, if you are ultrafair or your hair is black, skip matching your mane. "If your hair is really light, you want to go one to two shades darker, and if your hair is dark, you want to go one to two shades lighter," he counseled. This way, you'll get natural, believable-looking brows.

Still not sure whether you should be selecting a gel, powder, or a pencil? It's all about getting the shape you want. Roberts exclusively schooled us on the five hottest arch shapes for 2016 and how to achieve them with products from the MAC Cosmetics Brows Are It! collection. Trust us - the tips are supereasy to follow, even if you don't have the steadiest hands. Read on!

Find Out What Pope Francis Wanted to Be When He Grew Up and More in This Adorable New Children's Book

At any given moment, every child has a million questions - about life, the world, what's for dinner, if they can have a snack . . . no, a different snack - but kids all around the world were put to the test when they were asked, "If you could ask Pope Francis one question, what would it be?" Tons of children handwrote notes in crayon, marker, and pencil to the pope, and he sent responses - covering a number of topics - back to them. Now you and your little ones can check them out in an adorable children's book titled Dear Pope Francis ($19).

In the book, the 30 letters from the children that were chosen are shown side by side with the thoughtful and inspiring responses they received from the pope, like this one in response to the question, "Who did you want to be at my age (8)?"

I have to admit something. When I was your age, I wanted to be a butcher. Now don't be astonished. You know why? I used to go to the market with my grandmother, and I'd see a butcher I liked. He was a large fellow, and he had a long apron with a big pocket in front. When my grandma would pay, he would put his hands in the big pocket. It was full of money, and he would give the change to my grandma. I thought he was a very rich man. All this really affected me, and I wanted to be like him. It's funny, but I have to confess this to you.

Adorable, right?

Even though the letters came from 26 countries on six continents, many of the common themes in the children's letters will show your own kids that we have things in common with people all over the globe. Pope Francis believes that children are the future and that their voices should be heard, which makes this very special book even more meaningful, regardless of your personal beliefs.

Read through for a selection of pages from the book, which is available now.

It's OK to Keep Watching Beyoncé's "Formation" Music Video Over and Over Again

Just a day before hitting the stage at Super Bowl 50, Beyoncé dropped a new song called "Formation" out of nowhere. But that's not all! Along with the song, she also released a new music video exclusively to Tidal with a cameo from her adorable daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, and we must say, it's fire! Just take a minute to review the lyrics: "Y'all haters corny with that Illuminati mess/Paparazzi catch my fly and my cocky fresh/I'm so reckless when I rock my Givenchy dress."

In addition to featuring explicit lyrics, the video, which was directed by Beyoncé, takes on black culture and police brutality with a handful of powerful images, including a cop car, a police line, a Southern plantation home, and a shot of graffiti on a wall that reads, "Stop shooting us." But that's not all - we also dug up plenty of other interesting facts that you might not have noticed. Watch the video above now!

5 Apps That Will Help You Organize and Style Your Home

Not long ago were the days when an "app" was the course before the entree. These days, however, the meaning is all about smartphone technology. Here's What Kendall Was Actually Doing at That Vogue Shoot

Kendall Jenner has just confirmed our original assumption that she would be a blast to hang out with. Even during her most stressful time - aka Fashion Month - the It model manages to joke around and laugh with friends, as evident by a new video released by Vogue.

Capturing Kendall in her element during NYFW, the hilarious clip shows Kendall getting her makeup done (a "natural" blue eye, she teases), dressing up with Gigi Hadid, and eating McDonnalds - topless! - while wearing thigh-high boots. The outfits and an appearance by Kim also confirm that thiswas what the brunette beauty was really shooting for Vogue, rather than that rumored cover (although fingers crossed that one still happens).

Laugh until you cry watching Kendall above, then check out all the killer looks she's worn recently, on the runway and off.

Breast Milk Has Been Sourced - and 6 Other Shocking Revelations About Reality Food TV

Even if you've watched every episode of Food Network's Chopped or Fox's Hell's Kitchen, there's a whole world outside of the edited clips that actually may be more fascinating than the shows themselves. In case you've ever wondered what it's really like to work on the set of a competitive culinary show, I spoke to a source who works on reality food TV (they wished to remain anonymous) to talk about their experiences. Let's just say, the shocking insights lift the curtain to reveal the "real" truths behind the camera.

All Logos Must Be "Greeked"

Unless a certain brand or grocery store is sponsoring the episode of a show, in general all logos on any item have to be covered up, or "Greeked," by the art department. What does that mean? For every wide shot of a pantry or faux "store" front, there's a whole team of people who've printed up generic logos and taped, painted, stickered, and doodled on every single box, can, bottle, and/or bag [that has a logo]. Did you know that the CH Sugar box has seven logos on it? Those were my least favorite to Greek.

Bacon Masks the Scent of Mystery Ingredients

Before certain challenges, mystery boxes, quickfires, etc., there are culinary and challenge teams who are working behind the scenes to test them out to make sure they work and figure out what will make for compelling television. That said, sometimes the kitchens they're working out of are right next to the set. To prevent contestants from figuring out what's being cooked and potentially have an upper hand, guess what they cook tons of to mask any scent of things being tested? Bacon! And lots of it.

For Some Shows, the Food Judged Is Cold

On Top Chef, Iron Chef, and Chopped, those judges are for sure eating hot food - contestants have to make multiple plates of their finished dish, some that go directly to the judges plus one extra called the "food porn" shot that goes directly to the cameras for those pretty shots. But on MasterChef, a show that works predominantly with amateur chefs, most of the time they're only able to make one dish, so those judges are well-trained to eat cold food. Interestingly enough, they also watch the contestants closely as they're cooking and "taste" sauces and extra food around their work station so they can form a full opinion of the dish as well as the techniques used to cook them.

The Crew Gets Black Truffles FOR FREE

When you work with great chefs, they want the best. Caviar, foie gras, black truffles - which means behind the scenes, the culinary team works to source all of these fantastic ingredients. If something gets screwed up in the first take, there always have to be backup ingredients. That means leftovers! In general, talent, producers, and the culinary teams do get first dibs, but crew members reap the benefits too, if they ask nicely.

Yes, Breast Milk Has Been Sourced

In addition to luxury items, the challenge team is always looking for . . . challenges. Forget caviar, culinary teams have to source everything from squirrel to live crickets to whole canned chicken and even breast milk. If someone can dream it up as an ingredient, then there's a whole team that will make it happen.

Leftover Meat Gets Tossed

Produce from some pantry sets and any ingredients that are unused in the shots regularly get donated to local charities and food banks. The extra food also goes toward feeding the crew. For example, I didn't know what to do with a sunchoke before working on one of these shows, but I ended up taking home a few of them at some point. Plus, the culinary team gave me a bunch of different recipes and ways to cook them. Unfortunately, especially with some of the leftover meat/fish/proteins, after they've been sitting out on hot sets under all of the lights, they do have to be tossed for food safety reasons.

Part of the Job Is Playing the Mystery Box Challenge

Do you ever play that game of "What would I make with this challenge?" Well, one of the fun parts of working on competitive reality cooking shows is that you actually do get to play that game constantly. They're always looking to the culinary team to make sure that there are a ton of varied and not-obvious dishes that can be made out of every mystery box.
