This Firehouse Dog Got a Second Chance at Life After Being Rescued From a Burning Building
Looking at Jake the Hanahan, SC, firehouse dog now, you can't really tell the rough life he once had. When he was just a pup, Jake nearly died in a shed fire before being rescued by firefighters. Even worse, his family abandoned him after that. Luckily, Jake was rescued by firefighters again! This time, William Lindler and the Hanahan Fire Department adopted him to be their official mascot and firehouse dog. When he's not hanging out at the firehouse, he travels to schools to help the firefighters teach kids about fire safety - and make them smile. The town's city council even officially swore in Jake as a full-fledged member of the fire department. To keep up with Jake's life at the firehouse, follow his Facebook page.
Rebel Wilson Ditched Her Signature Platinum Blond For a Fiery Orange Hue
Rebel Wilson took the plunge and recently ditched her blond mane for a fiery new look. The Pitch Perfect star has been sporting light locks since we first saw her on the big screen, but it seems she was ready for a change. As she celebrated her 36th birthday with her fellow Bellas, Rebel revealed her orange-red hair on Instagram - and we're pretty into it!
MIMI reports that West Hollywood's Nine Zero One salon helped out with the transformation and created a subtle ombré with darker ends. Though we had to do a double take when new photos of Rebel surfaced (we barely recognized her at first!), her bold new hue is just as badass as her name. If this is just the start to more changes, we can't wait to see how else she experiments with her look. Read on to see some more shots.
Sephora Is Launching Dry Shampoo For Your Makeup Brushes
I will admit when it comes to cleaning my makeup brushes, I am pretty damn lazy. This is probably not something you want to hear from a beauty editor, who is supposed to be a leader in hygienic grooming habits. So at the top of my Spring cleaning #goals list is developing better habits with my tools. Thankfully, Sephora is launching a product in April that will make this incredibly easier to do. The megachain created a portable two-fluid-ounce Dry Clean Instant Dry Brush Cleaner Spray for bristles.
Let's break down what this magic mist does. You can spray the alcohol-free formula onto your tools and immediately use them after - there's no drying time. That means you can use one product or color and then switch to another within seconds. We tried this with a medley of formulas, including foundation and blush, and were happy with the results. It does feel slightly balmy at first, but if you wipe the bristles off on a clean tissue or the back of your hand and wait about a minute, the brush returns to its original state.
Note that it does have a fruity scent, but that might be necessary for those really old brushes. While you have to wait until next month to snag it for $14, you should get it on your shopping radar now.
How to Get Makeup Stains Out of Practically Any Surface
You may know the coconut oil trick to remove product when you make a makeup misstep. But what do you do if your spill has gotten on your clothes, the carpet, or the bathroom tiles? Get the solutions for reversing a variety of makeup messes - including lipstick-stained collars and self-tanners gone awry.
- Lipstick: Spritz your kiss imprint with hair spray and let sit for 10 minutes. Then, dab with a sponge, and throw in the wash. If your clothing is dry-clean only, try using a piece of tape to transfer the stain away. You can also use baby powder, chalk, or baking soda to remove oil- and wax-based lipsticks.
- Eyeliner: Did someone leave a note on your mirror in eyeliner? Reach for salt to remove the marks before using standard cleaner (this trick also works for lipstick stains on wine glasses).
- Waterproof mascara: For long-lasting makeup formulations, try blotting the stain with makeup remover like Philosophy Just Release Me ($19). Check the label to ensure the formula you're using is oil-free, though, or you'll end up with an even bigger mess.
- Foundation: Pretreat powder and liquid-foundation spills with a clarifying product like shaving cream or shampoo. Both of these toiletries have cleaning agents that should break through the stain before you wash.
- Self-tanner: To reverse self-tanner stains left on sheets or clothing, first rinse the affected area under cold water. Then use a sponge and dish detergent, working on the spot from the outside in, to cut the oil in the tanning formula. You can even use hydrogen peroxide to remove the orange tones from the fabric (but make sure to spot-check first to ensure the fabric's color won't lift). You can also use glycerin as a final resort.
Note: All of these suggestions are for treating stains immediately. In addition, be careful not to dry fabrics until the blotch is removed because heat can set the stain.

Google Has a Cell Phone Plan and It's Unlike Anything Else
Google's newest project is finally out of the invitational period, meaning you can get your hands on it. What is it exactly? Meet Project Fi, the company's own wireless network meant to remove all the pain and hassle from traditional wireless companies.
It works pretty simply: You sign up for the service and pick one of the three phones available - the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and the Nexus 6. You'll then have to wait for the phone and SIM card to be mailed to you. Not to worry, you won't be charged for any service until you activate the SIM card. The basic package for Project Fi costs just $20 for unlimited domestic talk and text, unlimited international texting, and WiFi tethering. Currently, Project Fi is offering $150 off the Nexus 5X if you purchase the phone through them. Not a bad deal for a relatively new phone. Ahead, you'll find other details about the service and our review.
You Get to Choose Your Data Plan
During the setup process, you get to choose how many GB of data you want to use.
- It's $10 per GB, so if you add 4 GB, you'll be paying an additional $40.
- If you end up not using most of your data during the billing cycle, Project Fi will then credit you back the amount of money you're owed. Any data you use on a public WiFi connection is also secured through encryption.
- The same idea applies to the basic talk and text package. If for some reason you end up using your phone for only half the month and then cancel the service, you'll only be charged for the amount you used.
Google's Convinced You're Going to Love Project Fi
Google hopes you'll choose Project Fi over all the other wireless providers for several reasons.
- Firstly, the company boasts it has the best wireless connection around. It tries to find you the fastest network by bouncing back and forth between Sprint, T-Mobile, and WiFi networks. The idea is if you're moving around and suddenly T-Mobile has a faster connection, you'll seamlessly be transferred over to that network. This also means you can start a call on a WiFi network, walk outside, and still keep talking without any issues.
- You can also use the phone internationally and not pay anything extra for data. Yes, you read that right. Project Fi will still only charge you $10 per GB, so even if you hop over to London for vacation, you don't need to worry about any roaming data charges. This perk is available in 120 countries.
- You can easily add more data to your plan on the Project Fi app or the website.
- It also only takes three steps to pause your service and only a few more to completely cancel it.
- If you need any help at all, Project Fi does have 24/7 customer support via chat, phone, or email. The calls are answered in about 20 seconds.
We're Going to Keep Our Old Cell Phone Plan . . . For Now
We were given the chance to try out Project Fi with the Nexus 6P and were left slightly impressed.
- If you're converting from iOS to Android, there will be an adjustment period getting used to it. However, the phone is relatively easy to understand, and the fingerprint reader on the back of the phone is actually more useful than the home button reader on the iPhone.
- As for Project Fi itself, don't expect a total seamless connection constantly. Several times my texts weren't sent due to a poor or no connection - even in dense, open areas. You might even get connected to a 3G network.
- Despite the cons, I'm staying optimistic on Project Fi - mostly for the ability to pay for only the data I use. I'm one of those remaining few lucky users who still has unlimited data, so I never think about it. With Project Fi, I still don't have to. As it turns out, I don't consume as much data as I think I do, and having the ability to check my data usage on the Project Fi app is a relatively anxiety-free way to see how I'm doing. I have nine days remaining in my plan, and I think I'll actually get credit back. It's almost like a treat from Project Fi.
So yes, I will keep waiting to see whether Project Fi completely improves and does not drop any phone calls or texts. Then, maybe I'll consider switching over. Though to be honest, the service, while meant for millennials, is a good option for parents and grandparents who don't need that much data and can manage it easily if they do.
Check out photos of the phone, app, and setup process ahead. Maybe it'll convince you to try out Project Fi.

7 Hidden iPhone Features Apple Didn't Tell You About
When Apple showed off many of the flashy new features of iOS 9 at the Worldwide Developers Conference earlier last year, it left some off the list, probably because of time restrictions. Now that iOS 9 has been out for some time, we thought you'd like to know about everything the software has to offer - in addition to longer battery life and caller ID suggestion. Ahead, check out the improvements that will make downloading iOS 9 worth it - if you haven't already. Just don't forget to back up your phone first!

What the Walkers on The Walking Dead Are Actually Thinking
We've spent more than half a decade with The Walking Dead, and in that time, we've realized quite a lot of things. Not only have we been emotionally scarred for life time and time again, but we've watched the cast change so much, fallen head over heels for Daryl Dixon, and even found a few moments to laugh. In all these seasons, though, there's been a pretty constant presence: hundreds of thousands of walkers. We thought it was kind of strange that the undead are such a big part of the show, but they never get any dialogue. To remedy the situation, we tried to imagine what they'd say if they could speak. Read on to get inside those dead, rotting heads.

You Don't Get to Keep the Furniture - and 6 Other Shocking Revelations About Being on Fixer Upper
As avid fans of Fixer Upper as we are, our knowledge of the show is limited to what we see on TV. We have no idea what it's actually like to be cast on the show and have Chip and Joanna Gaines renovate our Waco, TX, dream home. Luckily, the star of season three episode "A Big Fix For a House in the Woods" shared her story with POPSUGAR Select blogger Rachel Teodoro of Holy Craft.
Check out the seven things we were shocked to learn from her below, and for even more unprecedented insight into what it's really like to be on Fixer Upper, head to Holy Craft, where you can read the complete interview.

Casting Moves Fast
This cast member applied to HGTV one day and received a call from the casting agency the very next. "After that it was a quick, big, exciting blur," she told Holy Craft of the fast-paced process.
You Don't Get to Keep the Furniture
The gorgeous Magnolia Market finds Joanna fills the house with are actually just there on loan to stage the house for the big reveal. While the furniture is not included in the makeover, the homeowners can buy any pieces they want to keep - but at that point the budget is usually pretty tapped.
Chip Is Seriously Goofy
Watch any clip of the show and it's obvious that Chip isn't a serious guy, but we didn't realize that his silly personality played nonstop in real life. He kept this season three cast member and her husband laughing the entire time they filmed, giving producers ample material to choose from.
They Make Over the Entire House
Since we only see the "after" shots from a few spectacularly renovated and staged rooms on the show, we figured that these were the only rooms Chip and Joanna lent their magic to - but we're happy to be wrong. This cast member said every room in her house was addressed, but those not featured on the show were given more basic cosmetic upgrades, such as fresh paint, carpeting, and fixtures.
Joanna Is Quiet in the Best Way
Compared to Chip's outgoing personality, Joanna can come off as downright reserved in real life - but it's because her brain is constantly churning and plotting brilliant design ideas. And when she does speak, she's very thoughtful. "I was in awe of her during our real estate filming day because she was constantly thinking about different cool things about each house," the cast member told Holy Craft.
Makeovers Are High Quality
Call us pessimists, but we often assume that reality TV shows do the bare minimum amount of work required to make a home look good on camera. Not Fixer Upper - Jamie said her makeovers extended far beyond the surface and what we saw on the show. "There is not a door in my house that isn't surrounded in beautiful thick wood trim casing. They just finish out the entire project, parts you don't see on the show, to a tee," the cast member said.
You Don't Actually Become Best Friends
Joanna and Chip seem to become fast friends with everyone on the show - perhaps it's because they're all residents of close-knit Waco - and while they're super friendly in real life, it's still business and highly unlikely that they'll be inviting you over for a dinner party after filming wraps. "I think life is pretty busy for them with all this newfound success and adventures, and their first priority is obviously their family," the cast member explained.
So what does the house look like after the HGTV cameras (and the borrowed furniture) have left? See the before-and-after pictures of this cast member's house on Holy Craft.

How Often Do You Really Need to Clean Your Makeup Brushes?
We're true makeup fanatics, but there's one part of our routine that we actively detest - washing our brushes. We know we have to, but not only does it take up a lot of our time (which we could be using for Netflix binge-watching!), it could actually damage our favorite tools if we do it wrong. We reached out to Jenny Patinkin, celebrity makeup artist and founder of luxury brush line Lazy Perfection to get her top tips on brush care, cleansing, and more.
If you're more of a skimmer, let this be the one fact you learn: do not share your brushes with anyone else. "Coming in contact with your own oils and germs is one thing, but being exposed to someone else's bacteria is entirely another," Jenny warned. Once you know the danger of a dirty brush, you'll want to clean your tools daily! Here's how to get the job done.

Cheers to the Health Benefits of Beer!
By the end of the week, we don't blame you for wanting to kick back with a cold one. Enjoying a beer not only relieves stress from your busy life, but it also offers some physical health benefits.
- It reduces risk of heart attack: A recent Swedish study showed that women who drank one or two beers a week (no more) had a 30 percent lower risk of having a heart attack as compared to heavy drinkers or those who didn't drink beer at all. That's worth ordering a bottle!
- It strengthens bones: Beer has also been shown to strengthen bones. Just be mindful that more than two beers a day can have the opposite effect. Most of us aren't thinking about osteoporosis, but if drinking a beer can decrease your chances of hip fractures later in life, your older self will thank you for popping open a can.
- It protects against diabetes: If you're worried about type 2 diabetes, moderate alcohol consumption (no more than one a day) can protect you against this disease.
- It offers antioxidants: If you've heard that Guinness is good for you, you'd be right! It contains immune-boosting antioxidants and can also improve your memory. Dark beers also offer a small dose of iron.
- It's being formulated for fitness: Sometimes you crave a cold one after a long, hot workout, but the calories and carbs can feel counterproductive. There are two "fitness" beers now on the market. An online nutrition store in the UK has created Barbell Beer, which is low in carbs but offers a hit of protein. Or you can recover with Lean Machine Ale, a Canadian low-carb brew fortified with electrolytes.
This, of course, isn't a license to inhale a six-pack. Moderate and responsible drinking should always be on your mind so you can avoid a nasty hangover. And if you're worried about weight gain, check out this list to see which beer has the fewest calories.
Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris Look More in Love Than They Did a Year Ago
Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Calvin Harris, were spotted out on a romantic dinner date at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Tuesday night. The couple, who's been dating since 2015, kept close and held hands as they made their way out of the restaurant and into their vehicle. At one point, they even flashed a couple smiles - perhaps they were celebrating their one-year anniversary?
Taylor is currently on hiatus after recently wrapping up her 1989 world tour and has been enjoying her time with her other half. In January, the ridiculously good-looking pair stepped out for a candlelit dinner at the Giorgio Baldi Ristorante in Santa Monica and most recently, Taylor celebrated her Grammys win with Calvin at a star-studded afterparty at Hyde nightclub in West Hollywood. Read on to see more of the duo's night out, and then look back at their sweetest moments together.
9 Outfits That Never Go Out of Style
With every runway and every new trend, I'm less enthused with what's in my own closet. It's more than an occupational hazard, and a common sentiment many women share: how to make our wardrobes functional and stylish each day, so that we're never the victims of "I have nothing to wear" syndrome again. The answer I'm finding isn't always in stocking your closet with new stuff, but in remembering the value of great essentials - and how to work them time and time again. So, I'm going back to basics with nine timeless outfits you can rework and rewear any way you like. It starts here with a few easy formulas, just add and subtract to make them your own.
23 Wedding Dress Pictures You'll Regret Not Taking
If you're like most of the brides we know, searching for the perfect dress was (or is) time-consuming, wonderful, and just a tad stressful. Since you're only going to be wearing it once, make the most of your big day by taking all kinds of photos. While you're working on a shot list to hand over to your photographer, be sure to spend time drafting up scenarios and events that'll show your dress from the best angles possible. To help, we've rounded up some gorgeous pics to inspire you, including detail shots and pretty lighting you might not have thought of yet (and don't miss our shot list for stunning hair- and makeup-focused pictures!).

This Black Hole GIF Is Utterly Mesmerizing
This might be just a simulation of two merging black holes, but it's still insane to look at. Uploaded on Reddit, the GIF made it to the front page and has collected more than 1,000 comments so far.
But as a commenter pointed out, it's actually the work of SXS, or Simulating eXtreme Spacetimes. This group of researchers from Caltech and Cornell University simulate extreme space times to better understand physics in the cosmos. They also produced a paper about the project called "What would a binary black hole merger look like?" and an accompanying video.
What, exactly, would happen if two black holes collided? They would probably merge to become one bigger black hole, but it would be extremely violent, producing enormous amounts of energy and sending gigantic ripples through the universe called gravitational waves. Amazing.

This Star Wars Art Will Make You Wonder Why Disney Princesses Don't Carry Lightsabers
You're not over seeing amazing Disney/Star Wars mashup art yet, right? Good, because we found some new ones that have us senselessly fangirling all over again.
Illustrator Phill Berry recently shared his take on the Disney princesses as Star Wars characters, wherein they're rugged, lightsaber-wielding Jedi badasses.
Featuring Ariel, Jasmine, Rapunzel, and Belle - for now - the illustrations also include the princesses' respective sidekicks! For example, Ariel is shown with a hovering drone that is meant to resemble Flounder, and Belle is accompanied by her beau, the Beast - who in the Star Wars universe is most likely a Wookiee.
See the incredible illustrations that are kind of making us wish they cast Jasmine in Star Wars: Episode VIII.

The Shocking Truth About Thread Count in Sheets
For years now, we've been conditioned to correlate a high thread count with high quality in bed sheets, but it turns out there are far more important quality metrics than thread count. In fact, sheets with a low thread count but high-quality fiber can actually be better than sheets with high thread count and low-quality fiber. To learn what we should really be paying attention to when shopping for sheets, we spoke to the experts at luxury bedding company CULTIVER.
Here are the five things they said to look at before purchasing:
Fiber
This is a great place to start your sheet search. Consider your personal preferences and climate, and shop for a fiber accordingly: for example, Egyptian cotton's acclaimed comfort is due to its long staple fiber. Longer fibers create silkier-feeling sheets. Breathable fibers, like cotton and Cultiver's signature linen bed sheets, are great in warm climates because they're breathable and moisture-wicking. For cool climates, a natural insulator like silk is a great option. Polyester blends are great for those on a budget because they're inexpensive and durable.
Weave
The weave, or the manner in which the threads are interlaced, determines the way the sheets feel and look. Weaves with an even amount of vertical and horizontal yarns, like those used in high-quality percale sheets, create crisp, durable sheets. By contrast, sateen weaves have more vertical than horizontal yarns, giving them a shiny look and silky feel, but making them more susceptible to wear. When a weave is low quality, the info is often omitted from the label altogether.
Location
You already know what type of fiber and weave you want - next, note where the sheets are made. Some countries, France and Italy in particular, are known for their sheet-making skills. Even if the fabric is coming from elsewhere, it's always a plus to have the sheets made by master craftspeople.
Dye
Inexpensive sheets apply color and patterns to the fabric after the sheets are already woven, which can make them stiff, especially initially. With time and washings, they'll usually soften up. Pricier, but much softer, sheets are made from yarn-dyed fabrics that have been woven with colored yarn.
Finish
Some sheets are treated to be wrinkle-free, nonshrinking, or extra shiny - but dangerous chemicals are often used to create these finishes. It's always a good idea to seek out pure and organic sheets. They're better for everyone's health and a must for those with sensitive skin or allergies.
How to Find Your Wedding Day Glam Squad
Besides your spouse ( . . . and family and BFFs, of course), your wedding day hairstylist and makeup artist are two of the most important people you'll have by your side before exchanging vows. Not only do you want professionals who understand and can execute your vision, but it's also important to find artists you feel comfortable around and trust.
After doing extensive research - 10 years of writing in the beauty industry helped! - and forming tight-knit relationships with talent, I found the perfect team for my own nuptials. Because I couldn't have been happier with my wedding day glam squad, I spoke with them to get advice on how everyone can have a positive experience.
Before you start your search, know this: hairstylists and makeup artists who work with brides are of a rare, special breed. Not only do they love working in high-pressure environments, but the best ones also know how set the tone for a fun, relaxed day. I learned quickly throughout my trials that energy is almost as important as skill.

7 Body Powders to Try If You're Avoiding Talc
Talcum powder has been making headlines lately, but it's not a new ingredient. It's been used for centuries and can be found in a slew of consumer products, from dry shampoo and blush to baby powder. But what is talc, exactly? It's a mineral that is made up of silicon, oxygen, and magnesium and is meant to absorb moisture (therefore preventing rashes). In its natural state, talc can contain asbestos, which is a known carcinogen - but according to the American Cancer Society, commercial products containing talc have been asbestos-free since the 1970s.
However, the controversial ingredient has been linked to cancer when it comes to feminine hygiene. Though findings have been mixed, some studies report that women who use talcum powder in the genital area could be at a higher risk for ovarian cancer. It is said that powder can travel through the vagina into the ovary, but none of the findings have been concrete.
Remember: it's always best to talk to your doctor about any concerns you have regarding products you use on your body. However, if you're looking to avoid talc but still want to sprinkle on something to absorb extra moisture, we've got you covered! Read on to shop talc-free body powders.
