18 Fascinating Facts That Will Make You Love Anthony Bourdain Even More
Anthony Bourdain has a way with words. I don't have to tell you that if you're one of many avid watchers of Parts Unknown (which you can and should watch on Netflix), No Reservations, or The Layover, or if you've read any of his bestselling books. The chef-turned-author-turned-TV host has led what could only be considered one of the most interesting and envied lives. Even Alton Brown admits Bourdain is "food god." If you've always wanted to know more about Bourdain, these fun facts and quotes will enlighten you.
- He went to the Culinary Institute of America.
- He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Putkoski. They dated in high school and married in the 1980s, and they were married until the 2000s.
- Now Bourdain is married to Ottavia Busia, and the couple has a daughter named Ariane, born in 2007.
- He's written many books, and this year he's coming out with another: a cookbook called Appetites. It's been more than a decade since he's published a cookbook, and we can't wait.
- He's an Emmy award winner.
- He does not eat plane food and advises you to steer clear, too. "I'd eat some cheese and drink myself stupid," he told Bon Appetit when asked what he'd eat on a superlong flight.
- He wrote an article entitled Don't Eat Before Reading This for an April 1999 issue of The New Yorker while he was a chef at Les Halles in New York City. The opinionated piece helped Bourdain get his big break in the food world.
- His go-to meal to cook at home for a family dinner is linguine with white clam sauce.
- There are a few things he thinks everyone should be able to cook: an omelet, a roast chicken, steak, a basic stew or soup, basic vegetables, and pasta. "I think it would make the world a better place if we all knew how to cook pasta properly," he has said.
- The first place he goes in a new city is the central market. "I get an immediate sense of what's going on in a town and what the food's like."
- He thinks ordering room service is never OK. "If you really want to send yourself into a tragic spiral of depression, call down for a room service hamburger when you're alone in your room."
- The one thing he can't turn down is a bowl of spicy noodles.
- His most life-changing trip was the first trip he took to Japan. "It was like my first acid trip," he told Men's Journal.
- He's most definitely not a coffee snob and prefers it in a cardboard cup. There are "few things I care about less than coffee," he has said.
- He's a jiu jitsu champion. His wife convinced him to try it out, and now he loves it (they do it together).
- The best advice he's ever received? "Show up on time."
- He likes the macaroni and cheese at Popeye's. Yep.
- If he had 24 hours to live and had to choose one thing to eat, he knows exactly what it would be. "I'd go to Sukiyabashi Jiro in Tokyo."

7 Ways to Use Snapchat as a Bride on Your Wedding Day
Adding a social media flair to your wedding is something that helps kick your big day into modern times and allows you to chat with guests and non-wedding guests throughout your entire wedding adventure. Whether it's to send out info about the wedding location or to just let out-of-town friends and family members who couldn't make it for your big day feel like they are there, there are plenty of ways to use social media. If you love Snapchat, here are seven tips for using it to enhance your wedding day.
1. Give Guests a Virtual Tour
On the morning of the wedding, snap videos and photos of places guests should be on the lookout for. You can show them where to park, where to play preceremony, and even where to put their gift when they arrive.
2. Tease Some Wedding Surprises
Get your guests even more excited to celebrate the best and biggest night of your life by sending them some wedding teasers. Have a photo booth or an epic dessert bar in store? Send out some hints and highlights to have them guessing what they'll stumble upon at your reception.
3. Hand Snapchat Over to a Trusted Guest
If you're looking to really put your wedding on social media in real time, hand your Snapchat username and password over to a trusted guest who can snap photos and videos of your wedding throughout the night. If you have family and friends who couldn't make the wedding, this is the ultimate way to have them feel as if they are included and a part of the night, even though it's just through snaps.
4. Send a Virtual "Wish You Were Here" Snap
For the friends and family members miles away who couldn't make it, send them a quick snap on the morning of the wedding letting them know you wish they were there but you wanted to send some wedding love their way. They can also snap you back throughout the morning, and you can use their snaps as a way to relax and laugh a little before the wedding jitters kick in.
5. Send a Quick Thank You to Your Guests
If you're looking to thank your guests faster than writing thank-you notes, send them a snap postwedding. Make a 10-second video for the key players who made your wedding possible, or take a goodnight photo and send it to all your guests with Snapchat accounts.
6. Show Highlights
When the wedding comes to an end, you can send out a quick wedding highlight summary through photo snaps of decorations and even your beautiful dress. This will give guests and nonguests a chance to relive your favorite wedding moments and memories.
7. Create Your Own Personalized Wedding Brand
You can take your wedding brand to the next level with geofilters on Snapchat. Custom-design one that fits your wedding style, and guests can post pictures and videos with the filter that screams your very own happily ever after.
Now that your Snapchat game is covered, don't forget to come up with a wedding hashtag that no one else will have.
The Story Behind Preacher's Most Shocking Character, Arseface
The most eye-popping character on AMC's incredibly graphic new series, Preacher, isn't the actual preacher: it's a poor kid named Arseface (played by Ian Colletti). We meet the unfortunately accurately named teenager on the show's premiere, but we don't find out exactly how his face becomes, well, so jacked up. Then again, the show is based on Garth Ennis's comic book series of the same name, and we might be able to assume his storyline is similar in the TV show.
In the books, Arseface, aka Eugene, idolizes Nirvana's lead singer, Kurt Cobain. He plays their music all the time, which adds to the friction between him and his traditional father, Sheriff Root. When Cobain commits suicide, Arseface and his best friend, Pube, try to emulate him. They steal the sheriff's shotgun, get drunk, and shoot themselves. Pube's attempt is successful, but Arseface only blows his face off. The only thing Sheriff Root says to his son after the incident is: "Shoulda put it in your mouth, you dumb little f*ck." Arseface becomes such a big character in the books that he even gets his own special issue.
It's a pretty devastating story, and it'll be interesting to see if the show touches on Arseface's history. After all, the TV series takes place years after the comic books, which debuted in 1995.

Why Spending Time Alone Is the Key to Keeping Your Family Together
Dads shouldn't feel guilty if they want to take a personal time off from parenting. In a post originally featured by our friends over at Fatherly, experts explain the importance behind occasional alone time for men.
Everyone catches themselves at some point reminiscing about when they had friends, free time, and interesting hobbies. It lasts until your toddler smacks you upside the head and babbles something like, "Knock it off, I own you."
If only there were a way to carve out some alone time for yourself; a time to maintain your individuality and be a better husband and father and not a codependent sad sack. (Hey, nobody told you to stop folding socks!)
Famed couples therapist and TED rockstar Esther Perel has a way, and it involves drawing boundaries around your time, doing activities that are in your best interest (and not necessarily your kid's), and not feeling guilty about wanting to just run out the door screaming. Because while you may feel like being a good parent means setting aside your life because the kids need you, the truth is that it's better for everyone when, occasionally, you do you.
Are You the Front Row Parent?
Good parenting is like bad dancing - if you're doing it right, you and your partner are constantly switching leads. Perel says that most couples go through times when one person is the prima ballerina of diaper-changing (you look great in a tutu, by the way), while the other parent is the career-driven backup dancer.
"In every couple there's going to be a front row parent," says Perel. "It's the parent who, from the beginning, has an easier time letting go of their sense of time to fill the time of the child. One parent becomes the one who preserves the family."
If you're not that person, you need to be the other one: the one with the stiff drink, the back rub, the compliments, and the pushing them out of their responsible comfort-zone. What you don't need to be is right there with them, micromanaging the micromanagement.
"If you're able to appreciate being complementary, you get a system that can really survive those first five years," says Perel. "Those are the years with the highest rate of divorce, and if you get through them, you have a likelihood to actually stick it out."
Push Yourself Out
Sometimes you need to get your partner out of the house for their own benefit. "There is a certain energy that my family would see that I would get into. It said, 'I'm about to explode,' and they would just say, 'You need to go to yoga - go run, go swim.'
Perel said that when she came back from her version of a swimming yoga marathon, she felt like a different person and ready to reengage her family. "I have been thankful to them so much about that. At the time I would fight it, but then they learned to fight me more."
Don't Waste Your Time
Babies ruin everything, including how you prioritize your life. In the beginning, they're helpless humans that need you to do every godd*mn thing every godd*mn hour, every godd*mn day. But as they get older, they'll be fine if you skip a soccer practice or their best friend's Chuck E. Cheese extravaganza.
"Everything is defined by the needs of the child," says Perel, who recognized quickly that she wasn't the type to do the weekend circuit of soccer games and pizza parties. "There's judgment on people who are not marching in the ranks. I am not spending my Saturdays at these boring games, cheering for the first time [my kids] touch a ball in 47 minutes. I am not going to a birthday party for a 9-year-old in one of those screaming gyms with people that I have no connection to. The pressure was big then, and I think the pressure is 10 times bigger now." You kid's best friend will get over your absence.
Hey, Parents, Leave Those Kids Alone
So you want to go off and do you own thing (or something with your spouse), but your children haven't mastered the art self-reliance? Instead of peeling off cash for date night babysitters, why not just enlist some like-minded parent friends? "For most people in this country, having a child means a renewed isolation," says Perel. "It's the opposite of what it should be. Have a family of choice - a bunch of people so you don't feel like it's all on you."
For Perel that "family of choice" was a bunch of her friends who would take turns inviting the kids for a sleepover. If you don't have parents who live close by (or just wish they didn't live close by) and you hate being gouged by the local Babysitting Mafia, see if your parent friends will go for this sort of arrangement.
"It calmed me to know that other people can take care of them and that they're fine. At 2, 7, or 10 - The minute I saw my kid in somebody else's arms I thought, 'Okay, if ever something happens to me, they could live.' That's just a personal thing," she says.
Trust Everything Will Be Fine
If you feel like you can't leave the house because your spouse is going to start feeding the baby dishwasher packs and using the microwave oven as a hand dryer, maybe you should stay home. But that's not going to happen.
"Can you accept that you're important but not indispensable?" asks Perel. "That it doesn't all revolve around you and your identity will not be diluted because you actually were not so essential, and that they managed perfectly fine even if they did it differently than you." If the answer is yes, then what are you doing still hanging around? Get out there and be yourself for a minute.
The 1 Product That Cleared Up My Skin in a Big Way
Since age 11, I've had problem skin. I remember a photo taken of me at the Fall seventh grade dance that ended up, to my great misfortune, in the back of the school yearbook. The picture (which used flash, mind you) zeroed in on my frizzy hair, my rainbow clothing, and, perhaps most embarrassing, an ultragreasy T-zone and preadolescent pimples dotted along my forehead and cheeks, aggravated by the sea of sweaty bodies in which I was engulfed. Good times.
The next year, my acne issues only intensified. As an inexperienced preteen - this was before YouTube hit the social media market, so beauty tutorials were virtually unavailable - I had no idea how to apply makeup. Every morning, I used Physicians Formula to powder my face to certain death. Needless to say, it didn't help matters much. (Note: after years of practice, I currently adore Physicians Formula - it makes a mean bronzer.)
I eventually signed up for an appointment with a dermatologist, where I was prescribed an acne pill that I took every day until my late teens. The appearance of my skin noticeably improved, though I still battled bouts of angry zits here and there. And the redness issue never really went away.
Fast forward to 2016, and I'm a 21-year-old with a mild yet constant case of adult acne. Some days, it's viably worse than others (usually the week before that special time of the month). Though I don't have as many big blemishes as I did in seventh and eighth grade, smaller breakouts frequently pop up along my jawline and the sides of my cheeks. And by the end of the workday, you can bet my face is shinier than a freshly polished disco ball.
That said, I make an effort to stay away from unnecessary pills - especially when there are topical solutions out there waiting to be tested. I've recently become a big fan of Etsy skin care. The wide selection of all-natural products tend to work better than big-name brands, and I can actually pronounce the ingredients!
In the hunt for a solution to my difficult skin, I came across this rose essential oil apple cider vinegar toner. I use apple cider vinegar for other health purposes but had never thought to apply it to my face. The product is under $10, and I love supporting small businesses, so I ordered it in the sprayer style without another thought.
After more than three weeks of misting the stuff on my face morning and night, I can safely say it's worked wonders for me. ACV balances the pH levels of your skin, which prevents it from getting too dry or too oily. It removes dead skin cells, opens up your pores, and contains antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. You can even substitute it for your face wash or shampoo!
Altogether, I've noticed diminished pimples and redness, and my skin immediately feels tighter and cleaner after a couple spritzes. Apple cider vinegar has also improved the dry patches beneath my jawbone, which I could never seem to get rid of. The only downside? ACV naturally smells a bit sour, but the scent fades after a minute or two.
If you struggle with acne or any sort of problem skin, I suggest giving apple cider vinegar a go. You can mix your own solution or swoop some up from Etsy. Here are a few more of my favorite picks containing ACV:

The Property Brothers' Craziest Fan Encounter Will Haunt You
Jonathan and Drew Scott have encountered everything imaginable since they became HGTV stars, from antique Playboys hidden in the walls of a reno on Property Brothers to overzealous fans. But nothing could prepare them for what Jonathan told us was their craziest fan encounter to date.
"Quite recently, when we did our book tour, we had somebody show up who was carrying two plastic dolls and claimed that they were my children," Jonathan shared. As if that wasn't strange enough, the fan then insisted that he tend to his children. Yowza!
As far as bizarre fan antics go, most are much tamer, more along the lines of strange autograph requests. "We'll be doing a book signing or something like that, and people will bring in an entire length of hardwood or they'll bring a giant chunk of marble counter and they'll want me to sign that," said Jonathan, in disbelief that they lugged the heavy material around all day. It begs the question of what the fan does with it afterward; do they then install the material as to have an autographed floor or kitchen?
While there are the extreme fan run-ins, most, fortunately, are positive ones. Single Jonathan (brother Drew has been dating Linda Phan for years) even says that while he's never dated a fan before, he wouldn't rule it out. "I never have, but depends on who the person is," he said, adding that the biggest romantic dealbreaker for him is having a date be more interested in his design advice than him. "A lot of times friends will call me and be like, 'oh hey, you've been so busy on the road and everything, why don't you come over, I'll cook you dinner' . . . and then I'll show up and they'll have flooring samples laid out and paints out, and I have a feeling they're using me for my design savvy."
Until he finds that special lady who wants more than flooring tips, he'll keep third wheeling with Drew and Linda - and keep demanding DNA sanity tests from all fans claiming to have mothered his doll children.
7 Unexpected Costs of Buying a House
You've got your eye on a prime piece of property and just enough money in the bank to cover the down payment. It's meant to be, right? Before you submit an offer, consider this: the real price is much higher than the real estate listing would lead you to believe. There are a smattering of fees, charges, and expenses associated with purchasing a home that most first-timer home buyers have never heard of - and they add up to serious money. Check them out below.
Closing Costs
Loan origination fee, recording fee, attorney fee, underwriting fee; it seems like there's a fee for everything when you're buying your first house. These small charges add up to a substantial 2-5 percent of the home purchase price. Yowza! That's definitely worth budgeting for.
Home Inspection
It's a drag to pay for in the short term, but it's worth every penny to ensure that the house you're buying doesn't have any major issues. Just be sure you have a few hundred dollars to dish out so you can pay for a certified home inspector during the negotiation process.
Appraisal Fee
Before the bank will agree to loan you money to purchase your home, it wants to make sure that the home is actually worth the amount you're purchasing it for; thus, it requires you have the home assessed by an independent certified appraiser who determines its value. This is done at your expense to the tune of a few hundred dollars.
Escrow Account
You've planned for your mortgage payment and even added interest into the monthly cost equation - but this likely will not be the only money you send your lender each month. Most require you have an escrow account into which you pay your home's property tax and home insurance fee.
Property Taxes
Don't overlook the property tax line in the real estate listing, because you're responsible for paying it each year (likely into your escrow account). Perhaps the scariest thing about the property tax is that it can be raised based on a variety of factors, many of which you have no control over (local school funding, resurgence of the area, government need, etc.), and you're responsible for the increase. Depending on the tax increase, your monthly payments could go up dramatically.
HOA
Be it an apartment building or single family home, if the property you're buying has common areas (lobby, pool, club house, etc.), then you can expect to pay some form of HOA or Home Owners Association Fees. These cover the upkeep of these shared spaces and must be paid on top of your mortgage payments. Sometimes they must even be prepaid before you move in.
Insurance
You probably think you have a good grip on the cost of insurance because you've been paying renter's insurance for years. Bad news: home owner's insurance is a whole different ball game. In addition to covering the cost of replacing your belongings, it also covers the cost of rebuilding your home. Needless to say, it's much more expensive than renter's insurance. Depending on where you live, you may even need to pay for supplemental insurance, such as flood or earthquake. Ka-ching.

Mandy Moore Is Parting Ways With the Home She Shared With Ex Ryan Adams
Mandy Moore has just listed the Los Angeles abode she lived in both prior to meeting her now ex-husband, musician Ryan Adams, as well as during their almost-six-year marriage.
The "Candy" singer purchased the Mediterranean-style, five-bedroom home way back in 2002 for $1.725 million, and she just put it on the market for a little over $3 million. Located in the trendy neighborhood of Los Feliz, the rustic pad features hardwood floors, a fireplace, and a beautiful outdoor patio.
Though Moore has lived there for quite some time, it's likely that she's hoping to move past her tumultuous divorce and start anew with her new boyfriend, Dawes singer Taylor Goldsmith. Keep reading for photos of the cozy abode.

The Easy and Affordable Way to Cover a Popcorn Ceiling
If you own a home with popcorn ceilings, you've probably spent some time fantasizing about having them disappear. While you can find online tutorials for scraping off the textured surface, it's a tedious and incredibly messy endeavor.
For an affordable DIY alternative that also adds character, consider covering your popcorn ceiling with wooden planks!
After scraping off some of the popcorn ceilings in her 1970s French country home, Edith & Evelyn Vintage blogger Cindy decided to go the wooden-plank route, and the result is pretty stunning. Her only regret? Not doing it sooner!

How Pet Insurance Saved This Sick Dog's Life
For me, pet insurance is one of those things that you're aware of but never actually take advantage of. Even though I have two cats, I've never even considered getting insurance because I just think they'll always be fine. (Something I regretted when my cat got sick last year.) But Pets Best Insurance is there for if I ever change my mind, and the pet insurance company has a whole host of success stories to show for itself to convince the nonbelievers. Take, for example, this story about Rex, as told by his human, below.
Nov. 20 was just like any other day in my household with work, gym time, and dinner for myself, my daughter, and my dogs. My Great Dane, Rex, had the hiccups and looked "off" to me after dinner. He began to wretch non-productively and started to drool uncontrollably. I suspected the worst - bloat. Bloat is a life-threatening condition that occurs when a dog's stomach distends with gas and fluid. I rushed Rex to the vet and soon enough, he needed surgery to the tune of $1,800. This amount would take up all of the Christmas money I had saved for my daughter, and I began to panic, until the reality of having insurance had set in. About six months prior to this incident, another one of my dog's had spinal cancer and I spent $4,000 to save his life. I had just finished paying off the debt. Being a single mom at the time, it was really hard for me to afford this. I couldn't be happier when I realized that this time I wouldn't have to pay an outstanding amount to keep my dog alive. Plus, I'd be able to give my daughter the Christmas she deserved!

But Pets Best Insurance is there for if I ever change my mind, and the pet insurance company has a whole host of success stories to show for itself to convince the nonbelievers.

Take a Tour of Prince's Mysterious Paisley Park
Prince's famed Paisley Park in Chanhassen, MN, was the first of its kind – a compound containing two recording studios, a dance rehearsal hall, a performance space, offices, and even living accommodations all under one roof, all for one artist. He could record his music, film his movies, and store his costumes here without ever having to go outside. Tragically, it is also where Prince's body was found. Architect Bret Thoeny was tapped by Prince to build Paisley Park in 1983, spent nearly three years building the structure, and today is opening up about Prince's sacred space, so long shrouded in mystery. Check out CNN's video above to get a tour of Paisley Park and see where Prince created his music and spent his time.
Megan Fox Just Revealed the Hilarious Reason She's Moving
We were very surprised to see how normal Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green's Sherman Oaks, CA, home was - but we're even more surprised to hear the reason the couple is moving their family. Megan hilariously revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that they're moving because the child she's pregnant with told her to. "This baby wanted me to live somewhere else, so we're moving to a whole different place in Los Angeles because I feel like that's where this baby wants to be raised," she told Jimmy. While her statement is undeniably funny, it's also pretty relatable to the many other moms who feel they have a near-psychic connection with their baby in utero. As for how husband Brian feels about the reason for the move, Megan says he's cool with it. "He trusts me at this point because I've made so many good calls." Considering how adorable the couple's first two children, sons Noah, 3, and Bodhi, 2, are, we say he has plenty of reason to go along with her instinct. The only question now is what home will the growing family move into? We can't wait to see.

Wanna Be on Top? Snag Tyra Banks's Beverly Hills Mansion
Tyra Banks has just relisted her stunning, Spanish-style home in Beverly Hills in what seems like an effort to acquire a larger family home to share with her son, York - although the current home does boast four bedrooms, which would be plenty of space for the normal family. But the host of America's Next Top Model is far from your normal mom.
Banks originally listed the sprawling mansion for just over $7 million in September and has since listed it at a slight discount of $6.5 million. Built in 1926, the home features a gym, relaxing pool area, an outdoor kitchen station, and a firepit. What's interesting is that the decor and interior feel slightly traditional and quaint, which comes as a surprise given Tyra's fun and quirky personality.
Look ahead for photos of this top-model-approved pad.

Proof That Britney Spears Had the Best Memorial Day Weekend Thanks to This Beach House
While we spent our relaxing Memorial Day weekends relaxing at the beach or by the pool, it seems like Britney Spears spent hers the exact same way - except the beach she went to was just steps away from a $30 million Malibu, CA, beach house. And while most would have to pay tens of thousands of dollars a night to stay in a swanky pad like this, Ms. Spears stayed for free courtesy of Airbnb. It's good to be Britney.
The perennial pop goddess spent her weekend with family and friends at the five-bedroom oceanfront property that's appropriately located in an area called "Billionaire's Row." Aside from the stunning views, the estate featured a sizable pool, a hot tub, and various chic trappings and decor. If Britt and co. felt like venturing out for a stroll around the block, they might run into A-list neighbors such as Mariah Carey, Charlize Theron, and Halle Berry.
Take a virtual tour of the over-the-top beach house with some stunning photos, ahead, and a few of Britney's Instagram snaps from her fun-filled weekend.

Here's the Video of What Really Happened in the Property Brothers Bar Fight
Jonathan Scott, the tool-belt-wearing half of Property Brothers, got mixed up in a scuffle at Dempsey's Public House in Fargo, ND, in the early hours of April 24. And while many reports imply that Jonathan was a perpetrator in the bar fight, the facts (and video footage) tell another story. Authorities seem to agree, having just announced that they will not be filing any charges. The Fargo city attorney told the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "Upon review of the police report and associated evidence, I found there was not sufficient evidence to establish a violation of either simple assault or disorderly conduct."
So what actually happened? We break down the facts below, and you can take a look for yourself in the bar security footage above. While watching, we couldn't help but notice that the same bouncer seems to be removing another patron via chokehold (to the horror of his female companion) earlier in the video, so perhaps Jonathan fell victim to an overly aggressive bar employee.
- Jonathan and Drew visit Fargo to be the keynote speakers at the Eco Chic Design Conference.
- Jonathan visits the local bar Dempsey's Public Ale House.
- The bar begins clearing people for the 2 a.m. closing time.
- Jonathan is ushered out of the bar but then returns through the back door.
- Bouncers rush the bar's back door.
- A fight allegedly breaks out between patrons.
- Jonathan happens to get in the middle of the altercation but has nothing to do with it, according to him and a source close to him.
- A bouncer places Jonathan in a chokehold and removes him from the bar.
- Jonathan calls 911 at 1:57 a.m. claiming he was assaulted by the bouncer.
- After investigating, authorities announce that there is not enough evidence to press any charges.
