The Latest Trend in Healthy Drinks Aids in Digestion, Ends Constipation, and May Even Lower Blood Sugar

Allow me to take some attention off apple cider vinegar for a moment and shed light on another drink that's been popping in conversations and is even included in some of our favorite cold-pressed juice blends: aloe vera.

As a topical agent, aloe vera can alleviate general discomfort from a bad sunburn (and has also shown some promise as a treatment for psoriasis), but imbibing this plant is a whole different story. Researchers believe that the complex carbohydrates found in the juice are where this plant's powers truly reside - it also contains a number of digestive enzymes, antioxidants, and a natural form of aspirin. With all this said, there are some promised benefits - with some having more merit than others - so get the facts and drink with care.

Digestion: Historically, aloe vera has been used as an effective natural laxative, since the juice of the plant encourages the bowels to move and helps with elimination. After sipping the juice, it takes about 10 hours for aloe to get things going. Be careful about relying on this as a long-term cure, since using aloe regularly can affect the lining of the intestines.

Blood sugar: Early research suggests that aloe vera juice can help lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. However, more thorough testing is needed to determine how beneficial aloe is in the situation, since studies have had conflicting results.

Cholesterol: Although the data is considered insufficient to support this claim, there is a small amount of evidence that suggests taking aloe orally can lower cholesterol. Once again, more studies are needed to see if aloe fulfills this promise!

You should be forewarned, aloe vera juice has a strong, pungent taste. If you can't cope with taking it straight, blend it in a smoothie or juice. Try this fruity strawberry, banana, and aloe vera smoothie or our avocado, spinach, and aloe smoothie, which is perfect for a day of detox. The recommended serving size for aloe one tablespoon up to two times a day.

The Latest Fitbit Update Will Get You 1 Step Closer to Your Weight-Loss Goals

Knowing the optimal time to go to sleep is difficult to predict, considering everyone has a different sleep schedule. Some people need a solid eight hours; others can be productive during the day with six. Fitbit's most recent update aims to personalize your sleep cycle so that you hit the hay at your ideal time.

Appropriately called the Sleep Schedule, Fitbit's update was engineered by a team of sleep specialists from Stanford University, the University of Arizona, and Johns Hopkins University. Sleep, as you are certainly aware, is critical to brain function, exercise, and essentially every bodily function. Fitbit released some research in conjunction with the update, and it's not entirely shocking. People who sleep on average seven to nine hours a night have a lower BMI; people with a BMI over 25 sleep on average an hour less a week. While that statistic can clearly be correlated to a number of factors, sleep is undoubtedly one of them.

The sleep schedule works exactly how it sounds: you set a goal for when you want to sleep and when you want to wake up. It will also recommend how many hours a night you require to hit those goals and even suggest when those goals should be. You'll be able to track your slumbers by monitoring the sleep history. When your sleep goal arrives, Fitbit will send a push notification to your phone as a reminder. Sleep schedule is ideal for people who want to change their sleep patterns, as a Fitbit can't actually force you to sleep. Fitbit is not the only application you can use to track your sleep, either. There are many tools you can use to alter your sleep habits. If you're up for the challenge, the update awaits.

The Simple but Profound Reason I Eat Ice Cream Every Night

My 91-year-old grandfather has always been a man of few words, but he clearly expresses his values in his actions. He's a man of routine, whether it's hitting the treadmill to get his 20 minutes of cardio every day, sitting down to eat meals at the same time (always at the table with no distractions), coming home from the office at 5 o'clock on the dot (yes, he still goes to the office), and always, always finishing the day off with a big bowl of ice cream. I always marveled at his sense of groundedness and balance. In my adult life, I've appreciated his example but never really set out to emulate it until recently.

For years, I lived spontaneously: going to bed and getting up at vastly different times, never giving myself any sense of structure other than to make sure I'm at work by a certain time. I couldn't think of a meal that I didn't eat in front of a computer or standing up or while walking. And all this really took an emotional toll as I found myself feeling really anxious and scattered. On a recent trip to Mississippi to visit my grandparents, my grandfather made his way to the freezer to pull out his 1/2 gallon of mint chocolate chip Blue Bell ice cream, and pointing the battered stainless-steel ice cream scoop at me, he asked if I wanted some. I nodded and watched as he carefully and considerately scooped the bright green ice cream into two crystal bowls.

We sat together, mostly in silence. The only noise was the sound of the spoons scraping the bowl. "That's good, isn't it?" my grandfather said after a few bites. "I think I'm going back for a little more," he decided before scooting his chair back and heading toward the freezer. It may seem silly, but I really hold onto these small moments when I can connect with my grandfather, when I can appreciate what brings him joy. The next time I found myself at the grocery store in San Francisco, I bought a pint of ice cream (Jeni's Salty Caramel Ice Cream is my weakness) and inserted it into my nightly routine. After dinner, I'll sit at my table and enjoy it in silence. After hours of staring at a computer screen, it's something I really look forward to, when I can slow down, chill out, avoid technology, and mull over the day without a distraction. Thanks to my grandfather, I'm (finally) learning the importance of shaping my days with some routine and structure and, of course, treating myself after a long day's work with something simple and sweet.

How Being a "Messy Eater" Inspired Huda Kattan's Perfect Lip Liners

"Everywhere I go, I'm stunned by how gorgeous everyone is," declared Huda Kattan. I found it slightly amusing that the makeup artist, vlogger, and influencer said this to me, considering that she is one of the main causes of the beauty epidemic.

The stunning American-born, Dubai-based entrepreneur has over 13 million followers on Instagram, where she shares makeup tips, tricks, and product porn - but not exclusively original content. By regramming her fans' work, she's launched the careers of countless fellow artists and inspired millions to be their most glamorous selves. She's also developed Huda Beauty, a cosmetics line, with her two sisters, Mona and Alya. The brand was first sold exclusively in Dubai, but due to worldwide demand, it is now available internationally through Sephora.

If you follow her religiously on Instagram, you know that until recently, Huda Beauty only sold one product: false lashes. It seems that Kattan only creates items that she's obsessed with. She told me that she has worn false lashes daily for over a decade ("It's changed my life, I'll never go back to not wearing lashes"), and because lip pencils have been an essential part of her routine for the past four years, she's expanded the Huda Beauty empire to produce those too.

"I love, love, love lip liners. I live for them - they're so important," she gushed to me. "Not only can they make your lips bigger, but they can make a face look so much more harmonious."

She spent a long time working with her team to create the perfect formula, and they absolutely nailed it with Huda Beauty Lip Contour ($19 each), which launch on Sephora.com on May 3.

Thanks to Kylie Jenner's lip transformation and watching Kattan's mesmerizing Instagram videos, I've become consumed with mastering the overlining technique. Despite this, I've never been satisfied by a lip pencil until trying the Huda Beauty formula. Past brands I'd tried featured dehydrated pigment that was impossible to blend, while others rubbed off with a mere sip of water. Not so with Lip Contour: each of the nine hues is rich and creamy but sets quickly to create a longwear lip. As a self-professed "messy eater," Kattan explained that a durable pout is a necessity.

"You don't want the shape to go away on a first date. That's embarrassing. 'Where did your lips go?'" she joked. In fact, she is so satisfied with the results of her product that she doesn't use other brands anymore.

"If I was using our products and mixing them with other colors, I'd feel like we didn't do a good enough job," Kattan explained. "The fact that I'm only using our products feels like I created something complete."

The existing nine shades vary from a beige-pink neutral to a deep burgundy. A few of the colors work well in pairs, as they vary by just a few tones - perfect for sculpting a plush pout. For example, Bombshell is a soft peachy-pink and Trendsetter is a brown-based pink, but they are quite similar. By using the latter to overline a lip filled in with the former (read on for Kattan's tips!), you'll create a realistically fuller-looking pucker.

For those craving more, Kattan exclusively told POPSUGAR that seven more Lip Contour options will be launching at the end of 2016. "They're totally different than the colors we have now," she divulged. "They're really inspired by iconic women that I've loved through the years . . . not really anything from this decade."

After hearing her full-on ode to lip liners, I shared with Kattan that I felt this step would be similar to filling in brows. By that, I meant, once you try it, you can't live without incorporating the action into your makeup routine. She strongly agreed.

"Everyone can do so much. The everyday consumer is like a mini makeup artist in her own capacity," Kattan declared. "As annoying as it may sound, we're just going to keep adding more and more [steps] to our routines." With this, she added a caveat.

"As we get into these areas where people are adding in these extra steps, it's important for people to take it lightly and not feel pressured by it," Kattan warned. "I constantly post pictures on my Snapchat with no makeup so that people also know they're transformations and how they happen. They're beautiful, but they shouldn't define you. You shouldn't feel terrible without them."

If you aren't already a complete Huda Kattan devotee after that empowering statement, read on. The makeup maven shared her top tips for using her new lip pencils, including overlining and finding your right shade. She also revealed the next big beauty trend - keep reading to discover what it is!

Why "Sandbags" Under Your Eyes Are a Must-Try Makeup Technique

If you have yet to try the baking makeup technique, you need to add it to your beauty skill set ASAP. Not only does it make your strobed features look highlighted for hours, but it sets your foundation, too. Now the baking method is being redirected into the under-eye area and has gotten a new name: sandbagging.

I've been doing this ever since I tried out the grayscale look last Halloween. It was essential in preventing cracks in my monochrome makeup (which would have let my pink skin peek through!), but it's just as fantastic at keeping under-eye concealer crease-free. It's definitely a game changer for those with serious dark circles.

Sandbagging is a little more challenging than baking, but the technique is the same. After slicking on your under-eye concealer, use a damp makeup sponge to pat a thick coat of translucent powder on top, getting as close to your waterline as possible. After a few minutes, dust away the excess with a fluffy brush, and you're good to go!

While many vloggers don't mention this, it is key to keep your eye area very still while the powder is setting. That's where the complexity comes in. Squinching, smiling, or any other facial expressions cause the skin to crinkle, which could create cracks and lines in your concealer. I recommend taking a break from applying the rest of your face until you've finished sandbagging.

Keep reading to see examples of the sandbagging technique!

What It's Really Like to Get Hair Extensions

In just one afternoon, my hair went from short bob to mermaid long. No, I didn't develop Disney-level magic powers or turn into Beyoncé; I got head-turning extensions.

When RPZL, a new hair extension and blowout bar in New York, offered to let me try a new type of hair extensions, I jumped at the chance. I've had long hair in the past, but I'm currently in the process of growing out a pixie cut, and it is trying my patience.

So I opted for RPZL Next, which uses ultrasonic waves to bond keratin attachments to your actual hair. Like heat-applied keratin extensions, RPZL Next lasts at least three months, but unlike tape extensions, they're attached via individual wefts rather than in strips.

If you, too, are having growing-out woes, or if you just want to add body to already-long locks, you might want keratin-bonded extensions. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of what you can expect from the process.

Why 1 Millennial Mother Is Not Ashamed of Her Stereotypical "Mom Hair"

As a mom, there's plenty I feel guilty about. Until now, however, my hair hadn't topped the list.

According to The New York Times - which published a piece yesterday titled, "Mom Hair. It Exists. Now What to Do About It." - I should feel pretty terrible about the fact that, a year into the struggles of motherhood, I decided to chop off my long, wavy locks into a shoulder-grazing bob.

Yep, from the same publication that celebrates the "Dad Bod," the pudgy, out-of-shape physique that men get when they settle down and have kids, comes a cautionary tale about what happens when a woman gives birth while simultaneously having hair.

Oh, the humanity!

Here's the thing, though: on some level, I get the insinuation that "the first thing new moms want to do is cut their hair off."

For most of my 20s, one of the physical attributes I received the most compliments on was my hair. I was blessed with thick locks, and once I had the good sense to grow them out, I'm not too humble to admit it: they were luscious. With the addition of blunt bangs, I had a full-fledged hairstyle.

I told myself I'd never change it.

Then, I had a kid. After months of baby-wiping spit-up out of my chronically greasy-yet-brittle hair because it wasn't the day of the week that I got to shower, I was desperate to take a pair of scissors to it.

But that's where The New York Times' anthropological study into the psyche of all moms-with-hair quickly crumbles.

In coming to grips with why women decide to opt for the "longer-in-back, slightly-shorter-in-front bob," there's no mention of moms feeling tired of constant ponytails or spending precious minutes with a blow dryer when they could be sleeping.

The article insists that women choose "inescapably frumpy" cuts because they feel bad about their bodies, and it goes so far as to implore women to keep their long hair as some form of cloak to hide their grotesque postpartum figures:

"It's not just your hair that's changing. Your body is, too. You might not be at the weight you really want to be yet. And the truth is, long hair can be a little bit of a distraction. When you go short, you are more exposed. There's less, literally, to hide behind."

It also recommends that women start planning their personal hair journey while they're still pregnant - you know, on top of preparing to push a human being out of their vaginas and then raise said human being to not go on to write sexist, demeaning articles for a living:

"For hair color, you'll want to go more natural by the third trimester. An ombré is a really nice way to address the fact you're going to be having fewer hair appointments."

In all of its interviews with master stylists and former models, the article never once addresses the women it is writing about. It never gives advice on hairstyles that are easy to manage. It never operates on the assumption that moms might not have time for even irregular cut-and-colors. It never recognizes that "mom hair" is far less a problem for those with it than those offended by it.

Yes, mom hair exists. And I can't think of a single thing we should all care about less.

What 1 Woman Learned After Trying Grunge Makeup For a Week

When it comes to beauty, I'm not a risk-taker. The extent of my morning makeup routine (seen above on the left) typically consists of a few swipes of mascara and some blush, mainly because I never quite mastered the art of a cat eye or smoky shadow. After a brief encounter with dark lipstick piqued my curiosity, I challenged myself to wear one of the most extreme makeup trends - grunge - for a full work week.

Grunge beauty, which is inspired by the traditional moody style, became popular in the '90s and has made a serious comeback in 2015. There are three basic elements that are essential to nailing it: a matte face, smoky eyes, and dark lips. Once these are accounted for, adding colors or products can tweak the look to fit any unique style or facial feature.

There are almost 200,000 grunge hair and makeup YouTube tutorials out there right now and the hashtag #grungemakeup has been used on Instagram over 12,000 times! One of the most well-known celebrities to adopt the trend is Kylie Jenner, who is known for her signature mauve over-lined lips. Factor the stats in with Kylie's fierce interpretation of the fad, and I was sold. That, along with the drastic difference between grunge and my basic look, made it feel more intimidating - and necessary - to try.

I learned a lot about myself and makeup over the course of the week. If you're considering undergoing a similar challenge, know that if you have beginner beauty skills, applying this type of look is tough. It takes skill and patience, neither of which came easily to me. That said, the physical and emotional transformation that occurred over the course of five days was a pleasant surprise. I went from insecure to confident about my technique, and I'm no longer reluctant to make a statement with my beauty style. Even better, I found some of my new favorite products along the way!

This Woman Took Charge After Being Judged by Her Looks

It's not incorrect to say that many people have probably danced alone to Jennifer Lopez's music in their homes or car, pretending to be on stage with the pop superstar. But a small percentage of those people (including myself) haven't actually danced with Jennifer before - unless you're dancer Megan Batoon.

Batoon, a Jacksonville, FL, native who is a part of Fullscreen's new series Making Moves, posts choreography videos, comedy sketches, and recipes on her channel, opening up to her 500,000-plus subscribers on YouTube. Her real-girl personality, humor, and insane choreography are the perfect recipe (if you will) for success. Not to mention she's gorgeous, but Batoon actually started the channel because she hated the idea of being judged for your looks at dance auditions, instead of being judged on your talent.

Check out what advice Megan has to follow your own dreams, and let me know your favorite part of the interview in the comments below!

9 Unexpected New Ways to Use Your Favorite Drugstore Products

You've sauntered through enough drugstores in your life to become familiar, perhaps even bored, with what they have to offer. But what if we told you there is a plethora of unassuming drugstore products with purposes beyond their apparent function? No, we're not talking about those coveted drugstore beauty dupes (bless them) that serve as alternatives to high-end brands. We're talking about everyday items that not only help you out in a pinch but can also save you money and - dare we say it - nestle their way into Holy Grail territory.

Here, we're giving you the DL on inexpensive drugstore products that can be used in ways you may not have thought to do before. For example, petroleum jelly can give your perfume a little more longevity, blister bandages can suck out the goo in those pesky pimples, and medical tape can catch runaway glitter.

Blake Lively Gets Crazy Competitive While Playing "Know It All" With Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon was joined by the ever-gorgeous Blake Lively on The Tonight Show on Monday night and challenged the actress to a fun round of "Know It All" - a game of knowledge and deception to see who can name more things in different categories. After Blake selected the Harry Potter characters category, it wasn't long before she showed off her competitive side, yelling at Jimmy, "Come on, do better ones!" Things then took a hilarious turn when Jimmy chose the Spanish words category and Blake completely blanked out. To find out who wins, watch the clip above, then check out Blake's stunning outing in NYC earlier in the day.

The Horrifying Reason You Should Never Wear Hair Elastics Around Your Wrist

For decades now, we've been wearing hair ties on our wrists. Not only is this the most convenient method, but it's also the only way we can keep ourselves from losing them - otherwise, the darn things just disappear. But one Kentucky woman's harrowing tale may cause you to reconsider this accessory altogether.

According to WLKY, Louisville local Audree Kopp noticed a bump on her wrist growing bigger and bigger. Though she was prescribed a course of antibiotics from her doctor, it continued to enlarge and become inflamed, so she went to the emergency room. It was there that she learned her glittery hair tie had caused three kinds of infections in her wrist.

Dr. Amit Gupta at Norton Healthcare, who immediately performed surgery on Audree, believes that bacteria from the difficult-to-clean accessory entered her skin through pores and hair follicles. If she hadn't visited the emergency room when she did, the infection could have turned into sepsis, a life-threatening condition caused by bacteria in the bloodstream. "People have been known to go into a coma, your body shuts down," Audree explained. "It could have been way worse."

We already knew that there is the small (but terrifying!) possibility of being paralyzed by a dirty makeup brush, but this story is somehow even scarier. Germs hiding in gunky brushes are a given, but we never expected them to be in our innocuous hair ties. Maybe it's for the best that they get lost when we're not wearing them – they have the potential to cause serious harm.

Justin Theroux Gives You Yet Another Reason to Be Jealous of Jennifer Aniston While Flaunting His Biceps in NYC

Since most of Justin Theroux's recent NYC outings with Jennifer Aniston have included shirts with sleeves, the Zoolander 2 actor decided to finally let his biceps see the light of day while riding his bike around the West Village on Tuesday in a white tank top and just the right amount of scruff. Later on that evening, Justin grabbed dinner with Jen in the city while wearing a tight, gray t-shirt and white jeans, further adding to the long list of reasons we're jealous of the supercute couple, who tied the knot in August 2015 and have been looking more and more in love ever since.

All the Times You Just Couldn't Look Away From Kim Kardashian's Cleavage

We can't help feeling as if we've been seeing quite a lot of Kim Kardashian's cleavage these past few years; is it just us? While her Instagram is loaded with NSFW moments, some especially racy photos, like that naked snap she shared in March, create more buzz than others. Not only did she clap back at her haters, but she even ended up writing an essay about the whole scandal. Whether she's showing it off under a sheer shirt or forgoing a shirt completely, it's been looking a lot like Kim has traded flaunting one fantastic asset for another (and Kanye West is certainly not complaining). If you don't believe us, just keep reading to see Kim's cleavage in action, and know that you have our permission to spell cleavage with a "K" from here on out.

The Deeper Meaning Behind This Woman's Stunning Tattoo

While Joan Bremer was recovering from miscarrying her first pregnancy at seven weeks, she made a permanent decision - she was going to get a tattoo to mark this life experience.

Despite it being a tragic time, Joan felt that it was important to honor her unborn baby with ink and immediately started thinking about options. "For me, all the tattoos I have signify something, and even though this was a painful time, I still wanted to be able to remember it in some way," Joan told Today.

Just days after the miscarriage, Joan went forward with a simple yet powerful design of two hearts within one connecting mother and child. "If we are able to carry a baby to term and have a healthy child, I will add a rainbow baby to this design since 'rainbow babies' are babies that are conceived after a loss, just like how something beautiful can come after a storm," Joan explained. "If I end up having a second miscarriage, I will most likely add another heart to this design."

The California woman shared her new tattoo on Imgur not only as a way to express her grief, but also as a way to help others. "Losing a baby, even if it's early in pregnancy, is just so difficult," Joan continued. "I know there is a certain silence about miscarriages and pregnancy losses, but I am not ashamed that this happened to me. That was one of my motivations for getting the tattoo in the first place - I really think it's healing to be able to talk about it."

Since posting the snapshot online, others have taken comfort in her honesty and are sharing their own memorial tattoos. "This is so incredibly common, but it's not a subject that people want to talk about," Joan added. "It happened to us, and it's happened to countless other people. I want to be able to share and talk about it, and in talking about it move on from the pain and disappointment."

Do You Ask If There Are Guns in Your Kids' Friends' Homes?

Here's a post from our partners at BabyCenter! Every week, we bring you the best parenting and lifestyle stories from the experts at BabyCenter, including this about kids playing in homes with guns.

My five year old is now at the glorious age of the drop off playdate. I can now drop him off at a friend's house, not stay and not look back for several blissful hours. This comes with a new set of worries.

The question never occurred to me before I watched one of those prime time news specials: "Do you ask your children's playdates if they have guns in the home?"

Related: Parents' make a heartbreaking tribute to their son

We live in an area of the country where many take pride in their gun ownership and many people own and use guns for reasons ranging from personal protection to hunting. One town over, there's a legal ordinance that heads of household are "required to maintain a firearm, together with ammunition therefore."

A few houses down on my street a neighbor has a sign outside her home that reads, "This home is protected by the 2nd Amendment". That neighbor doesn't have any children at home. But what about our other neighbor who has a child in my son's classroom?

Don't get me wrong, I'm fully in support of anyone exercising their Second Amendment rights. However, with rights come responsibilities. My true concern isn't whether or not my neighbors have guns, but if they are locked away and stored safely especially when children are present.

Children, mine especially, are naturally curious. My daughter has a knack for finding the dirtiest and most dangerous item in any room. It's nice to assume that all parents who own guns are responsible and take the necessary safety precautions, but I've found that isn't always the case. Some people feel safer with their guns loaded and in places where they can get to them quickly, like a drawer or a closet. The number of times my daughter has come to me and handed me embarrassing items she found in my dresser is enough to convince me that storing anything dangerous there is a bad idea.

I recently found out that a friend's husband keeps a loaded weapon in his briefcase. It doesn't get locked up when he comes home. His home office is in an open part of the house where our children have played together.

The morning after the news special about guns, I asked my 5-year-old what he would do if he was playing at a friend's house and found a gun. He had no clue. I explained to him that if he sees a gun, don't touch it, don't play with it, and immediately tell an adult. I asked him again a week later and he doesn't remember.

From now on, I'll be asking parents about the status of their guns before playdates.

Why This Photo of a Little Girl Standing on a Toilet Will Keep You Up at Night

"I took this picture because initially I thought it was funny." That's how Michigan mom Stacey Wehrman Feeley began a Facebook post, centered on an image of her young daughter standing on their bathroom toilet.

But the instant her child told her what she was actually doing, Feeley broke down in tears.

"She was practicing for a lockdown drill at her preschool and what you should do if you are stuck in a bathroom," she wrote. "At that moment, all innocence of what I thought my three-year-old possessed was gone."

Feeley decided to post the powerful image with an accompanying message begging for more gun control and changes to the nation's current laws. It has more than 7,000 reactions and has been shared more than 10,000 times since she posted it last week.

Below, read an excerpt from her post, and click the image above to see it in its entirety:

Politicians - take a look. This is your child, your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren and future generations to come. They will live their lives and grow up in this world based on your decisions. They are barely 3 and they will hide in bathroom stalls standing on top of toilet seats. I do not know what will be harder for them? Trying to remain quiet for an extended amount of time or trying to keep their balance without letting a foot slip below the stall door?

This Baby's Priceless Reaction to Eating Cranberries Is Cracking Up the Internet

Two-year-old Holden's idea of a perfect snack is most certainly not a cup of sour cranberries. That being said, this entire video features him torturing himself by shoving cranberry after cranberry into his mouth. Why? The answer is simple: for most humans - truly picky eaters aside - any food is good enough if it's sitting directly in front of them. So yes, it's clear that Holden less-than-appreciates cranberries, but like a true foodie, he's going to eat them anyway.

Watch the video to see his hilarious and adorable facial expressions.

This Dad Got a Tattoo to Match His Son's Cancer Scar to Help Him Feel More Confident

After watching his little boy battling a rare form of cancer, Josh Marshall was left devastated when Gabriel shared how he was feeling: like a monster.

In order to fight the malignant brain tumor, the now-8-year-old child had to undergo surgery to remove part of the tumor. While the operation successfully stabilized his condition for the time being, it also left a large scar above Gabriel's right ear. When Gabriel disclosed to his dad that he was feeling very self-conscious about the new scar, his dad immediately knew that he needed to do something.

"This broke my heart," Josh told BuzzFeed. "I told him if people wanted to stare, they could stare at both of us." The dedicated father got an identical version of Gabriel's scar tattooed on his head in the exact location as his son's mark. After Josh shared a touching photo showing off their matching heads - along with his unconditional love for his child - the moving image won St. Baldrick's Foundation's #BestBaldDad competition.

Josh captioned the photograph with a simple explanation that he got the tattoo to help his son's self-confidence, but it's clear to see that this dad will be doing everything he can to support his son every step of the way.

Mom's Post About Her Son Who Loves Nail Polish and Tutus Begs the World to Be Accepting

"My six year old son likes to wear nail polish. He likes to wear girls' clothes and tutus," starts Devon Berryann's Facebook post about her son, who is pictured wearing a tutu. "He tells me about the boys he likes at school. He says he will marry them and adopt babies. Maybe he will outgrow it. Maybe not."

Throughout Berryann's touching post, she grapples over whether or not she should discourage her son from doing anything that he could potentially get bullied for, or just allow him to be himself and hope that the world we live in will change.

A couple days ago he came home and told me again about kids teasing him at school for his nail polish, and for the first time ever I considered talking him into taking it off. Into hiding that part of himself. Because for the first time ever I was scared that he would be gunned down one night when he was out having a good time with his friends. In that moment I was so terrified that I wondered if it would be better to stop appeasing him. Then I remembered all the reasons I let him be who he wants. Because it makes him happy. Because nothing hurts more than seeing your child truly sad.

Berryann ends her post by dismissing her fears - because "this world is not going to change with more fear" - and shares that she took her son to buy more nail polish. "So here he is world. See my boy for the amazing person he is. Show him love. Show him acceptance. Help us change the world into one that deserves him."
