This Makeup Artist's 2-Faced Halloween Looks Will Make You Do a Double Take

If you've narrowed down your Halloween costume picks to two final contenders, why not mash them up into one hybrid, "half and half" costume? Though it may not sound pretty, we can confirm that it's actually an incredible look thanks to makeup artist Natalie Costello, who goes by @natzbuzz on Instagram.

The Dublin-based makeup artist has been sharing a wealth of Halloween beauty inspiration to her feed, but none has motivated us as much as these two-faced looks. By splitting her face into halves with paint, she's created a way to rock two costumes at once (especially cool if the two themes are related!). Our favorite is the above Jasmine and Rajah mashup from Aladdin, but Costello has taken on some seriously incredible characters, from DC Comics and Disney to Tim Burton. Read on to see some of her best masterpieces.

Pentatonix's Take on "Hallelujah" Will Absolutely Give You Chills on Chills on Chills

"Hallelujah" indeed. Last week, famous a cappella group Pentatonix released their version of the iconic song, and it's haunting and beautiful enough to give you instant goosebumps. The song is fresh off the group's new Christmas album, A Pentatonix Christmas, which dropped on Oct. 21. This isn't the first time we've heard them slay a Christmas classic; last year, they busted out with a music video for "Joy to the World". But let's just say this stunning release might be their best yet.

Is Today's Version of the Tupperware Party Empowering For Moms or Just Plain Annoying?

Today, I attended one of many similar events I've been invited to in the five-and-a-half years since I became a mom. It wasn't a playdate or a kids' birthday party, though I've been to dozens and dozens of each. It was a 10 a.m. party thrown so a mutual mom friend could present the line of organic skincare, cleaning, and baby products she reps.

I usually dread this kind of forced spending (seriously, if you go, you know you're buying something), but I was pleasantly surprised by how fun the morning was. The products were actually pretty great and very reasonably priced (I can't resist an affordable eye cream), but more importantly, this mom-trepreneur seemed to be more driven by her passion for the product line, which according to her soft pitch, is a lot more natural and organic than any of the products I buy at Target that make the same claim, than by making money.

There wasn't anything contrived or self-serving about her pitch. She was just passing along information she found interesting and important in hopes that we might, too. If not, no big deal. Of course, everyone there made at least one purchase. I bought a few lotions and potions that were already on my shopping list, spent less than I would on the same kind of products at Target or Sephora, and left feeling pretty good about the whole experience. That, however, has rarely been the case at other similar moms-selling-to-moms events I've attended.

Hell, I've put whole friendships on hold until a girlfriend's obsession with selling her new line of this or that faded.

I've been pitched by mom friends and friends of friends to buy nutritional and diet supplements, essential oils, superexpensive skincare products that claim to be more effective than Botox (doubt it), costume jewelry, and yoga pants. I've dodged calls from friends asking me to host events for their products, not wanting to beg other friends to come purchase not-needed stuff from someone they hardly know. Hell, I've put whole friendships on hold until a girlfriend's obsession with selling her new line of this or that faded.

The truth is, as a concept, I am totally on board with moms picking up part-time gigs selling whatever floats their boat. I was lucky to pick a career with an insane amount of flexibility, and I've been even luckier to find as little or as much work as I want during the times when my kids required more or less of my day. I am well aware that most moms don't have that same advantage, and I understand the appeal of taking on a selling gig that allows you to make some extra cash and still pick up your kids from preschool every day.

But in practice, the whole thing of selling to your friends and then asking them to add their contacts to your potential client base can feel icky and intrusive. Sure, you see stories on social media about women making six figures working just a few hours a week selling anti-aging creams, but most of the women I know who started selling those same creams eventually quit because they couldn't handle pitching everyone they knew over and over again.

The pervasiveness of mom-selling doesn't just irritate me because it can feel like my friendships are being leveraged to fulfill the professional goals of what was previously a personal relationship. It irritates me because it feels like it is the best and only option for so many smart, capable, educated women who have decided that, once they became moms, the nine-to-five corporate life wasn't going to work for them anymore. I wish American businesses would catch on that just because a woman decides she doesn't want to work 40-plus hours a week after having kids, it doesn't mean she can't be an essentially valuable employee.

Selling serums and soaps is great, but it shouldn't be a mom's only option.

Here's What Photos Look Like With This 1 Feature Only Available on the iPhone 7 Plus

There are several features to love and hate about the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Some people like the new colors, while others are heartbroken over the removal of the headphone jack. However, if you're still mulling over whether or not to get a new phone, the new cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus might convince you.

The iPhone 7 Plus includes two cameras with a wide angle lens and a telephoto lens. A telephoto lens is typically used for photos where you need to blur out the background and truly focus on literally what is in front of you and the lens. The iPhone 7 Plus has a new camera mode called Portrait Mode that now puts that type of photo in your hands. Apple calls it the "depth-of-field effect" that "keep[s] faces sharp while creating a blurred effect in the background." The effect is also known more commonly as a bokeh.

We were able to test out this new feature and instantly fell in love with it. It can turn any photo into something that looks professional and high-quality - which definitely means you can expect to start seeing these photos take over Facebook and dating profile pictures, Instagram feeds, and more. As a reporter, I own a $500 DSLR camera and bought a $200 lens to take the same type of photos. Of course, my DSLR still manages to take higher-quality pictures, but it also can't text or let me check Facebook, email, and more. Essentially, getting an iPhone 7 Plus is a pretty good deal and one that you won't be upset about, since you're getting the camera as well.

If you already hold an iPhone 7 Plus in your hands, download iOS 10.1 and then follow these quick tips:

  • You can only take photos in bright lighting. Sorry, no low-lit bar photos.
  • Take photos with only up to three people to keep the depth-of-field effect in focus.
  • Position your subject further from the background to see more of an effect.
  • Be mindful of your phone storage! The camera will save both a photo without depth-of-field and one with it.

Ahead, see some quick photos we took playing around with Portrait Mode. Keep in mind that these photos were taken when the feature was in beta and that the final version in iOS 10.1 might look different.

The Universe Is a Lot Bigger Than Scientists Thought - About 10 Times Bigger

New findings from NASA and the Hubble Space Telescope indicate that the universe is much larger than we'd ever thought. Scientists originally believed the universe contained about 100 to 200 billion galaxies. Turns out, that estimate is way off, and there could be as many as 2 trillion galaxies, according to a press release.

A British team, led by scientist Professor Christopher Conselice, "painstakingly" analyzed images from the telescope and found that about 90 percent of the galaxies in the universe are too far to be fully captured by the telescope. Since the galaxies are not consistently spread throughout the universe, there could be a whole lot more out there that definitely exists that we can't yet see nor count.

In the press statement, Conselice said, "It boggles the mind that over 90 percent of the galaxies in the Universe have yet to be studied. Who knows what interesting properties we will find when we observe these galaxies with the next generation of telescopes."

While it is daunting to think about the vastness of our universe, it's thrilling to see scientists make these strides to improve our collective grasp on what exactly is happening outside of our little blue planet.

8 Brunette-Friendly Rainbow Hair Colors That Are Perfect For Cooler Weather

When I first covered rainbow hair in the Summer of 2014, I was spotlighting a select few women who were bold enough to rock unexpected colorful coifs in everyday life. Since then, the style has evolved to become a universally beloved look. Whether you're walking through the streets of New York City or Hong Kong, you'll see dozens of varied manes, including rose gold hair, amethyst strands, or denim dye jobs.

Equally apparent as these vibrant heads of hair is that the rainbow trend is especially popular among blondes (both natural and bleached). This is because light strands are an excellent foundation for electric dye . . . the color just pops on top. As a brunette, I felt jealous of this advantageous hair color and bemoaned my darker 'do. That is, until colorist and Brush In Hand owner Hannah Edelman created the now-viral chocolate mauve trend, which incorporated the client's naturally brunette roots.

According to Edelman, almost all hair needs to be prelightened for rainbow.

"I ask my clients to imagine they have a half white, half dark brown piece of paper in front of them," said Edelman. "If they painted a pink line with watercolor paint across both halves, where would they see the color? Only on the white paper. Semipermanent hair color is the same: completely translucent." She added, "You cannot get around the fact the hair needs to be lightened."

In the world of hair dye, there is a color wheel that assigns numbers to (natural) hair colors, starting with one - black - and ending with platinum 10. To tint their strands with rainbow shades, brunettes need to lift their natural color to a minimum of a level six on the hair color wheel (which is the darkest shade of blond you can be without being a light brunette).

That said, if you are wary about making the plunge and fully committing to platinum blond, you can make the process easier on yourself and your hair. Try an ombré balayage style, which will fade nicely into a standard blond and require much less upkeep than a completely bleached foundation.

The rainbow hue you select will also indicate how much you should lighten your hair. "Blues and violets should have a level eight or nine base," said Edelman. (These are pale blonds.) "For reds, oranges, and yellows, and greens, hair needs to be lifted to a level seven or eight," but she acknowledged that red will be visible (albeit less powerful) on a level six blond. Those who feel passionate about achieving pastel hair should know that you must bleach your hair all the way to a "level 10 with minimal warmth" (white blond).

Now that you're likely feeling more intrigued about pursuing colorful hair, we have good news. Edelman has divulged her favorite Fall/Winter rainbow styles that cater best to brunettes. Should you be convinced that you won't be able to pull off your top pick with your complexion, don't be: your skin tone should not be the ultimate deciding factor.

"Vivids are already breaking the rules," she said. "You can rock anything as long as you're sassy." So whether you're in search of a more subtle style or a vivid rainbow look, you'll find some serious inspiration when you read on.

A New Rumor Suggests These Customizable Keyboards Are Coming to the MacBook

Update: It turns out the E Ink keyboard rumors might be true! The Wall Street Journal reports that this E Ink keyboard will arrive on the 2018 MacBooks. The keyboards "will be able to display any alphabet, along with an unlimited number of special commands and emoji," a source told the The Wall Street Journal. And despite the original rumors, it appears that Tim Cook did meet with Sonder, the company behind the E Ink keyboard, last week. You can read our original story and see the E Ink keyboard in action ahead.

Original story: A new rumor that suggested an E Ink keyboard was coming to the MacBook in a few years is most likely not true. Though we can keep dreaming of a day a keyboard this cool will exist on our computers, the company behind the product dispelled the rumors.

The rumor began when The Guardian reported that Apple was considering buying the startup Sonder, which designed and created a keyboard that's customizable and uses E Ink (the same technology you see in Kindles). Many outlets reported the news and even confirmed with Sonder to verify the news. However, someone from the company wrote in a Reddit post on Oct. 13 that the company never met with Tim Cook.

While we're a bit bummed that this technology might not be coming to the MacBook, it's worth checking out to see what the hype was all about. You can see the keyboard in action below.

However, the new MacBook Pros are expected to arrive later this month and might come with a cool OLED touchscreen display keyboard. And who knows, we could see this E Ink keyboard on the MacBook someday.

Make These 3 Changes to Your Strength-Training Routine and Start Losing Belly Fat

While doing calorie-burning cardio is essential for losing weight, if you want to lose weight faster and reveal that six-pack under your pudgy pooch, you must incorporate strength training. Using weights instead of straight-up bodyweight moves will get you results in less time, especially if you follow these three tips.

Go Heavier

To burn more fat, go for heavier weights. Don't worry - you won't bulk up unless you lift superheavy weights and train for hours a day. What will happen is you'll burn more calories, which will help you burn more overall body fat, which means bye-bye belly fat. Use heavy dumbbells like 15- or 20-pounders, or use a barbell with plates. Lifting heavy weight with fewer reps is one way to slim your tummy quicker.

Combine Cardio

If you've always been a dumbbell user or a bodyweight moves kind of person, it's time to embrace kettlebells, medicine balls, and battle ropes. Using these types of equipment allows you to combine cardio with strength training, so you're burning an amazing number of calories while building calorie-burning muscles. Kettlebell swings, dynamic ball slams, and wall balls are three basic yet effective moves that will not only leave your muscles burning, but will also get your heart rate racing as fast as if you were doing high-intensity intervals.

Do Compound Moves

Why just work one part of your body? Get more out of your gym time by doing multitasking strength-training moves. Squat or lunge while holding weights, hold your body in plank while doing rows, or do the burpee variation with weights called man makers. These are harder, which means you'll probably want to do fewer reps, but man, they work!

Ask Yourself This 1 Question - and Clean Out Your Closet For Good

You would have never known that I organize and overhaul the wardrobes of clients for a living, let alone write books on the subject, if you had seen the state of my closet last week. Standing in my closet last Sunday while trying desperately to find something to wear to brunch led to the realization that my closet was leading a double life. It's not that it was a "hot mess," organizationally speaking. It was, however, glaringly obvious that everything in there represented my previous life, a very different life from the one I am currently living. A closet filled with four-inch heels and designer duds snagged at countless samples sales (read: I worked at Neiman Marcus corporate for almost a decade and everyone drives everywhere in Dallas) does not a smooth transition to the Bay Area make.

So, I made another cup of coffee, turned on my "Closet Overhaul" Spotify playlist, and did to my own closet what I have done hundreds of times for clients in the past.

I picked up the first hanger and asked the million dollar closet question that works like a charm every time I need to make, or assist a client in making, a decision on what stays and what goes. Two hours and several hangers later, I had over 100 items crammed on a rolling rack ready to donate. Cue: mic drop - and it all started with this question . . .

Can Pimples in the "Danger Triangle" Really Kill You? An Investigation

As much as I am ashamed to admit it, I still compulsively pick at my skin. Nothing - from Post-it notes to throwing out our magnifying mirror - has stopped me from clawing at my complexion. That is, until I heard about "the danger triangle" from YourTango.

Look at your face in the mirror. Imagine there is a dot on the bridge of your nose and one at either corner of your mouth, then mentally connect them to form a triangle. According to YourTango, you should never pick at pimples in this patch of skin. Supposedly, should you incur an infection in this area, it could kill you.

Shaken up by the very thought of this (could I have a deadly infection right now?!), I sought the intel of three dermatologists: Dr. Julie Russak, founder of Russak Dermatology Clinic; Cane + Austin founder Dr. Craig Austin; and Sadick Dermatology owner Dr. Neil Sadick.

While she admitted an infection of this magnitude would be very rare, Dr. Russak acknowledged that this is a dangerous location for a blemish to appear.

"It is a very vascular area with a lot of blood vessels that connect to the cavernous sinus," she explained. "Cysts and pimples contain bacteria, and if we pop them or if they rupture, there is a small possibility that the bacteria can get into the bloodstream, leading to an infection in the brain."

Dr. Austin agreed, adding, "Theoretically, an infection from a cyst or abscess could possibly spread and lead to cavernous sinus thrombosis."

Cavernous sinus thrombosis is a very serious condition that is characterized by a blood clot that blocks a vein behind the eye sockets. Symptoms include fever, severe headache, and blurred vision. This could lead to a retrograde infection, complicating your ailment and making you even sicker. That said, the initial diagnosis of cavernous sinus thrombosis should be something that should terrify you, as it causes death in 30 percent of cases.

However, Dr. Sadick disagreed, declaring the "danger triangle" nothing to worry about. "Although there are many blood vessels located in this zone and there is a potential risk of infection, squeezing acne lesions in this area to cause an infection to enter the bloodstream is a very minor and insignificant concern," he said.

In this day and age, where powerful antibiotics are readily available, you should not be paranoid that a pimple in the middle of your face will put you in peril. Instead, you should be troubled by a less deadly (and more cosmetic) issue.

"Ultimately, you really shouldn't be popping anything on your face because it could lead to scarring, which is really the problem to be more concerned about," Dr. Austin said. Your picking could also cause dark marks on your skin. "This area is prone to postinflammatory hyperpigmentation," Dr. Russak warned. "If more inflammation is created by popping at home, one can be left with a brown spot for months to come."

However, all three dermatologists do agree that if your pimple becomes more significant than a common whitehead, you should visit a doctor for treatment.

"The size of the pimple - as opposed to the location - is really what you want to be aware of," Dr. Austin remarked. "If you have anything larger than a whitehead or lasting over a week, you should always consult your dermatologist." A typical whitehead is about one to two millimeters, so if your spot is bigger, it's worth getting it checked out.

Dr. Russak added, "If it is very red or the redness is spreading, or you are observing tenderness or drainage, then it could be a sign of a localized infection."

If you begin to experience chills or night sweats or are suffering from a fever, you could have a bloodstream infection. In this case, you should absolutely visit a doctor. Otherwise, leave it alone and stop picking!

Whoa: This Harry Potter Theory Could've Changed the Series Completely

Get ready to breathe in and breathe out, Harry Potter fans - a recent theory is sparking up a conversation on the Internet on how the entire series could've changed. The single theory is based on one passage in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, involving the most underrated Hogwarts house - Slytherin.

The speculation, outlined by Tumblr user crazybutperfectlysane, discusses the idea of Cassius Warrington of Slytherin being chosen to compete in the Triwizard Tournament instead of Cedric Diggory. Both characters would still continue to help each other throughout the book up until the very end, when Voldermort still decides to kill Warrington. The user discusses the possibility that this might've united the Slytherins against Voldemort so they could have fought against him in the Battle of Hogwarts. Pretty crazy right? The entire post is below.

However, the theory train didn't stop here. Another user, aplatonicjacuzzi, took it upon themselves to delve deeper into what Warrington's death would mean to Slytherin, Hogwarts, and Harry. This would include Slytherins realizing that pure bloods aren't safe from Voldemort, joining Dumbledore's Army, and eventually facing off against He Who Must Not Be Named at last. The rest of the imagined storyline is below.

These two posts are currently circling the Internet, even though both are two months old. It makes sense - it's serving up the right amount of fresh "what if?" options we always need every few months. We can't imagine how different the stories of all our favorite characters would be like or how Harry Potter could have had different kinds of support at Hogwarts. Guess that's all we can do now: wonder how and what could change the story we love and treasure so much.

Experts Say This Is the Number 1 Way to Lose Weight

You've tried everything, but this time it is going to be different. You're finally getting down to business and losing the weight you've gained, whether it was from too many slices of pizza and beer in college, stubborn pregnancy weight, or that "food baby" you've been growing with pints of ice cream. You've had enough, and although you know there's no easy fix, we asked certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD, of Whole Health Nutrition to share the one simple thing you need to do to jump-start your weight loss and start seeing results.

We might as well have asked our mothers, because her advice is the same: to "eat more vegetables." There are so many reasons to eat them - they're low in calories and many are also low in carbs. The high water content and all the chewing it takes to break down vegetables in your mouth can help you feel full faster, so you eat less food overall. Plus the high amount of fiber in veggies will keep you feeling full for longer to prevent snacking later.

Eating more veggies is a growing trend, and the good news is that plants are becoming the new meat, moving veggies from the side of the plate to the center. The easiest way to eat more veggies is to include them in every meal and snack - even breakfast. Not sure how to snack on veggies aside from hitting the salad bar or ordering a side of sweet potato fries? Check out the ideas below to get you on board the all-day veggie train.

This Push-Up Challenge Will Make You Insanely Stronger in 30 Days

If being able to do 50 push-ups is on your fitness bucket list, it's time to make it happen. Just like the 30-Day Squat Challenge, here's a plan to build your upper body and core strength so that by the end of the 30 days, you'll be able to bust out 50 push-ups.

This challenge involves five push-up variations to not only prevent boredom and overuse injuries but to also help sculpt other areas of the body. Here are instructions for the five different variations, followed by a 30-day plan to get you all the way to 50.

Number 1: Basic Push-Up

  • Come into plank position with your arms and legs straight, shoulders above the wrists.
  • Take a breath in, and as you exhale, bend your elbows out to the sides and lower your chest toward the ground. Stop as soon as your shoulders are in line with your elbows. Inhale to straighten the arms. This counts as one rep.
  • If this is too difficult, do this exercise with your knees on the floor.

Number 2: One-Legged Push-Up (Left Leg)

  • Begin in plank position.
  • Extend your left leg straight behind you so it's parallel with the floor. Engage your abs, and try to keep your left heel in line with your hips.
  • With your left leg extended and your right toes on the floor, exhale to bend the elbows, lowering into a push-up. Inhale to straighten your arms.
  • This counts as one rep.
  • If this is too difficult, the photo above shows how to do this push-up variation with your right knee resting on the floor.

Number 3: One-Legged Push-Up (Right Leg)

  • Now switch sides. From plank position, extend your right leg straight behind you so it's parallel with the floor. Engage your abs, and try to keep your right heel in line with your hips.
  • With your right leg extended and your left toes on the floor, exhale to bend the elbows, lowering into a push-up. Inhale to straighten your arms.
  • This counts as one rep. As mentioned above, if this is too difficult, rest your left knee on the floor.

Number 4: T Push-Up

  • Begin in plank position.
  • Take a breath in, and then exhale to bend your elbows, lowering into a push-up.
  • Inhale to straighten your arms, and at the top of your push-up, lift your left arm straight up overhead, rotating your torso to stack your shoulders, and turn your heels to the right, making a T-shape with your body.
  • Exhale to place your left palm back on the ground and lower into a push-up.
  • Inhale to straighten your arms and lift your right arm up overhead, rotating your torso and turning heels to the left.
  • Exhale to place your right hand back on the ground.
  • Doing a T push-up on both sides counts as one rep.

Number 5: Diamond Push-Up

  • Begin in plank position. Place your hands together, directly under your sternum, with the tips of your index fingers and thumbs touching. Your fingers and thumbs should form a diamond or triangle shape.
  • After an inhale, exhale to bend your elbows, lowering your chest toward the floor.
  • Inhale to straighten the arms.
  • This counts as one rep.
  • If this is too difficult, try separating your hands a couple inches or widening your feet slightly. Still too hard? Then lower the knees to the ground.

The Plan

Instead of rolling out 50 regular push-ups in a row, you'll work up to doing 10 reps of each. This plan gives your upper body a day of rest every two days, but feel free to strength train other areas of the body on those rest days.

If you're new to the push-up scene, it's OK to perform these push-ups with your knees resting on the floor if straight legs is too difficult. But keep in mind that unless you practice doing push-ups on your toes with your legs straight, you'll never be able to do them. So do as many reps as you can with proper form with your knees lifted, and lower them when your arms start to fatigue. It's also OK to rest your arms if you need to (in ChIld's Pose or Seated Heart Opener), but as the plan progresses and you build strength and endurance, spend less time on your knees and resting, and more time rocking these push-up variations.

This Lebanese Bride's Poufy Gown Exceeds All Your Wildest Wedding Dreams

If you're having an extravagant wedding, you'll need a standout wedding dress to match. For Lebanese bride Nata, that meant slipping into a poufy Zuhair Murad ballgown that flared out at the sides. The embellished bodice showed only a peek of skin, but as Nata made her way to the ceremony, she covered up with a fur bolero to give the dress a modest vibe. The couple later entered into the reception with sparklers and a fog machine; no theatrics were too over the top for this bride.

Nata was likely aiming for a Hollywood-worthy wedding, as she also threw a red-carpet-themed bash on day two of the celebrations. Guests were treated to popcorn, walked on a red carpet, and even enjoyed a special performance by the bride herself. From the reception to the Hollywood party, you'll have trouble keeping your eyes off her outfit changes and the festivities.

Why Your Migraines Could Be Triggered by Wine and Chocolate

Though a migraine can be brought on by a combination of things, a recent study is outlining why certain foods and beverages may be to blame. In mSystems, a journal about microbiology, Dr. Brendan Davis explained the correlation between migraines and the consumption of food like processed meats, vegetables, wine, and chocolate.

Dr. Davis, a consultant neurologist at the University Hospitals of North Midland, found that people who frequently get migraines could have a different type of gut bacteria. Apparently, said gut bacteria is really efficient at processing nitrates - like those found in the aforementioned foods. While this sounds like a good thing, that efficient system actually produces an excess of nitric oxide in the bloodstream, which then overworks vessels in the brain, thereby causing a migraine.

Dr. Davis arrived at these results by examining 172 oral samples and 1,966 fecal samples from people who suffer from migraines, yet are otherwise healthy. He ended up noticing that they exhibited higher bacteria levels involved in their breakdown of food.

While this is unfortunate news for migraine sufferers who love chocolate, wine, and all that good stuff, these findings can at least shed some light on the painful headache disorder.
