The Most Important Details Surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's Divorce
In late May, news broke that Amber Heard had filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, whom she married in a lavish island ceremony in February 2015. Although the couple had seemed happy and the news came out of left field, Amber, 30, also filed a restraining order against the 53-year-old Alice Through the Looking Glass actor, which included allegations of domestic abuse. After much back-and-forth, the former couple confirmed on Aug. 16 that they had settled their divorce, but it looks like they're still trying to figure things out. Keep reading to see the most important information about their relationship and the events leading up to their settlement.
This post has been updated with new information.
- Amber files for divorce from Johnny. Three days after Johnny's mother passed away, Amber filed for divorce on May 25 and cited irreconcilable differences in her petition. The couple has been married for 15 months and has no prenuptial agreement.
- Johnny speaks out about the ordeal. A short statement given through his representative to Us Weekly on May 26 that said: "Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation, and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly."
- Amber is granted a restraining order from Johnny. The Magic Mike XXL actress filed a domestic violence restraining order accompanied by graphic photos of her bruised face on the morning of May 27. A source told People that the bruises aren't a rare occurrence, saying, "This was not an isolated event" and that "this was only the latest incident." Later that day, Amber was photographed coming out of court after a judge granted her request for temporary order.
- Johnny was photographed fitting an elderly woman with a hearing aid on the afternoon of May 27, during a visit to Lisbon, Portugal, with his band, The Hollywood Vampires. Later that evening, Johnny performed at the Rock in Rio festival and was pictured with his bandmates ahead of the show. While he has yet to release a statement about Amber's claims or the restraining order against him, a judge denied Amber's request for sole possession of their dog, Pistol, stating that there was "insufficient showing of need to protect pet dog."
- Vanessa Paradis and Lily-Rose Depp come to Johnny's defense. Upon hearing about Amber's domestic violence allegations against Johnny, both the actor's ex-partner and daughter penned notes in his support. On May 27, Vanessa wrote, "I believe with all my heart that these recent allegations being made are outrageous," claiming, "In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years." Likewise, Lily took to Instagram and shared a childhood photo of her and her dad, along with a note that read, "My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know, he's been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same."
- Comedian Doug Stanhope claims Amber is blackmailing Johnny. In a guest column for The Wrap, Doug - who has been friends with Johnny for years - wrote at length about how he believes Amber isn't as innocent as she seems. "Amber was now going to leave him, threatening to lie about him publicly in any and every possible duplicitous way if he didn't agree to her terms," he said. "Blackmail is what I would imagine other people might put it, including the manner in which he is now being vilified."
- Amber's lawyer slams blackmail accusations. Attorney Peter Sample was quick to shut down Doug's article about Amber with a follow-up statement to The Wrap that reads: "[The] allegations against Ms. Heard are absolutely and unequivocally false," adding that the claim she's blackmailing Johnny "has no basis in reality and is nothing but the typical celebrity muckraking for profit."
- The legal team for Amber speaks out against Johnny. Lead attorney Samantha F. Spector and cocounsel Joseph P. Koenig provided an in-depth statement to Just Jared on May 31 defending the Magic Mike XXL actress. "As the result of Amber's decision to decline giving an initial statement to the LAPD, her silence has been used against her by Johnny's team. Amber did not provide a statement to the LAPD in an attempt to protect her privacy and Johnny's career," they began, before ending the lengthy statement with, "We took the high road. Unfortunately, Johnny's team immediately went to the press and began viciously attacking Amber's character. Amber is simply a victim of domestic violence, and none of her actions are motivated by money. Amber is a brave and financially independent woman who is showing the courage of her convictions by doing the right thing against Johnny's relentless army of lawyers and surrogates. The Family Law Court is not going to be influenced by misinformation placed in the social media based on anonymous sources. Amber is the victim. Amber is a hero."
- People reveals new photos of a battered Amber. A photo of a bruised Amber appeared on the cover of People's June 13 issue (which was released on June 1). In its exclusive photos, she has both a bruised eye and a cut lip. In its cover story, People also revealed details from the court papers, in which Amber alleges that Johnny showed up at her birthday party "inebriated and high" and "violently shoved me to the floor." She also states that Depp hit her with a cell phone.
- Police are called to Amber and Johnny's home. According to reports, Amber's attorney called law enforcement on June 13, when Johnny's representative showed up to their home to retrieve his belongings. Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department told Us Weekly that the move wasn't in violation of Amber's restraining order as neither one of the parties were home at the time. The officers simply stood by to "ensure that only the items listed in the court order were being removed."
- Amber retracts her petition for spousal support. The actress's attorney filed a declaration to withdraw her request for spousal support from Johnny, saying the only reason she requested it was because she thought it was standard procedure in a divorce case. Amber, who wanted $50,000 per month from the actor, says the request is being "used against me to distract and divert the public away from the very serious real issue of domestic violence."
- Amber plans to testify in court. "As of now, the plan is for Amber to testify on Friday," a source told Us Weekly on June 15. According to court documents, Amber stated she "could and would competently testify" if called as a witness. However, Johnny's attorney, Laura Wasser, also filed documents requesting that the court deny Heard's testimony if she failed to "appear for deposition" or did not "produce the requested documents at her deposition." There is no word yet on whether Johnny will attend the hearing.
- Johnny files to keep divorce details private. On July 20, the actor's legal team asked a judge to order that his financial records be kept private throughout the rest of divorce proceedings. His attorney, Laura Wasser, argued that although Amber has the right to see his finances, the media does not. "Johnny is merely trying to protect the documents and information Amber seeks from unwarranted disclosure to the media and other individuals not involved in the case," she said in the official documents.
- Amber accuses her ex of stalling their divorce. In documents obtained by Us Weekly on July 26, it was revealed that Amber has accused Johnny of stonewalling their split. "[Depp] and his counsel's demand for the execution of these two non-disclosure agreements which impose undue financial hardships and burdens on [Heard] are nothing but blatant threats by [Depp] and are illustrative of his continued attempts to thwart real progress in this case," they read.
- The domestic violence hearing gets pushed back. A status hearing was held on Aug. 9, which resulted in Depp and Heard's domestic violence hearing being delayed. The reason for the delay seems to be that neither Depp nor Heard has completed their depositions. Depp's lawyer is requesting that Heard do hers first, and that there be time between hers and his. The hearing is now scheduled to take place on Aug. 17.
- A disturbing video allegedly showing Johnny arguing with Amber leaks. A day before the actress was set to be deposed, a clip surfaced of Johnny throwing a fit over an unknown incident. In the footage, Johnny is seen slamming kitchen cabinets, breaking objects, and yelling at Amber as she appears to record everything on her phone. While many speculated that Amber leaked the footage, she denied those reports on Saturday.
- Johnny and Amber settle their divorce. "Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love," the two said in a joint statement to TMZ on Aug. 16. "Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm." According to TMZ, the actress also withdrew her request for a domestic violence restraining order with prejudice, meaning she cannot refile the case.
- Amber's lawyer retracts her statement. After resolving the divorce on Aug. 16, Amber Heard's attorney, Samantha F. Spector, took back her client's previous statement about the settlement. "The statement is untrue and we retract it, without qualification," she told ABC News. "My assertion that Amber Heard has been vindicated in the court of public opinion is not true. We regret the error and apologize to Johnny Depp."
- Amber donates her $7 million divorce settlement to charity. In a statement to People on Aug. 18, the actress revealed that the money would be divided amongst charities with "a particular focus to stop violence against women," including the ACLU and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, where she has volunteered for over a decade.
- Johnny refuses to finalize the divorce and donate the settlement. Their divorce hit another snag on Dec. 14 when it was revealed that Johnny still hasn't donated all of the money he owes Amber. In legal documents obtained by E! News, it appears the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is not only pushing back against finalizing the agreement, but has violated a court-allotted timeline of requirements that includes "the division of personal property, shipping [Amber's] belongings from his private island in the Bahamas, transferring a Range Rover into [Amber's] name and Johnny's outstanding debts incurred from cars, Neil Lane jewelry, and stylist fees." So far all he's done is pay the initial $200,000 donation, so Amber and her legal team are fighting back.
- Johnny wants Amber to pay legal fees toward his attorneys' fees and costs. In new court documents filed by Johnny's divorce attorney, Laura Wasser, on Tuesday, the actor is asking that the court order Amber to pay $100,000 toward his attorneys' fees and costs. He also wants that amount deducted from his next divorce settlement payment if Amber fails to pay within 10 days of the court's order.

Mariah Carey and Her Family Own Christmas Every Year
It's well noted that Mariah Carey is the queen of Christmas, so it should come as no surprise that her family pulls out all the stops for the holiday. In 2013, she and her then-husband Nick Cannon jetted off to Aspen, CO, to hit the slopes with their kids, Monroe and Moroccan, and a year later, the singer took things up a notch by arriving on a sleigh with two real-life reindeer. This year, though, the brood kicked off the festivities early! In November, Mariah shared a photo of her and her mini mes posing in front of some Christmas decorations, writing, "Tis the season (early)." We can't wait to see what the family does this year.

La La Land: Is That Really Ryan Gosling Playing the Piano?!
La La Land is the most enchanting movie of the year, but besides the singing and dancing, one particular element will dazzle you: Ryan Gosling's piano skills. He plays a struggling jazz purist in the film, and there are some musical scenes that may cause you to wonder if it's really Gosling playing, or a body double. Shocking as it may be, it's definitely Gosling playing the whole time!
"In fact, there's not a single close-up shot of [the character] Sebastian's hands in the entire movie that's a piano double," director Damian Chazelle said, at a press event for the movie. "It's all Ryan." Even John Legend, who has a smaller part in the film, was impressed: "I was jealous, man," he said. "Watching him play, I was like, 'Wow, this guy is really good and he just learned this in the last few months.' It's pretty amazing."

David Beckham Knew Victoria Was the One Before He Even Met Her
David and Victoria Beckham have one of the longest relationships in Hollywood, and much like their epic romance, the story of how they met is just as sweet. David first set his sights on the former Spice Girl when he was at a hotel with his best friend. He remembers "turning around before I even met Victoria and said, 'I want to marry that one. The one in the black dress, the one with the bob.'" A few weeks later, Victoria was hanging out at David's soccer match, and he said "hi" from across the room. Even though David believed he had missed his opportunity to ask her out, a week later, Victoria popped up at another match. She was having a few drinks at the Manchester United players' lounge when David walked over and asked her for her number. To this day, David still has the London-Manchester plane ticket where Victoria wrote it down. Perhaps fairy tales do exist.
In Which 20th Century Women Director Mike Mills Calls Annette Bening a "Super Bonkers Magical Actress"
Annette Bening, Greta Gerwig, and Elle Fanning play the trio of 20th Century Women in director Mike Mills's new film, the follow-up to his 2010 drama Beginners. Christopher Plummer took home an Oscar for his role in Mills's film, and the director could be living that pattern with his current movie - Bening is up for the Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy, and could find herself an Oscar nominee next month as well. I sat down with Mills and another reporter to chat about how his real life keeps inspiring his movies and characters, and the impact he knew Bening would have on his film.

We know that Beginners was inspired by your life, so what particular parts of 20th Century Women were inspired by your experience?
Mike Mills: So much. The Annette Bening character is very much based on my mom. So much of her biography is based on my mom's biography; she wanted to be a pilot in the war, she was a draftsperson before women were really allowed to do that, she was born in '25, she smoked like that, she died like that, all that. She had a sense of humor like that, she wrote crazy notes to my principal, she always said, 'In my next life, I'm going to marry Bogart.' In lots of ways, it's a portrait of her. It doesn't mean it's a documentary about her; my version of her, my memories of her, are not facts. My sisters would write a different version of my mom, my mom would write a very different version of my mom. The inspiration is from my perspective of her, and then it goes through all these layers of transforming itself to a movie.
Greta's character is based a lot on my sister, who went to New York, found photography, found punk, went to Parsons, got me a Talking Heads shirt. Got cervical cancer because my mom took DES, had to come home to small-town blues and pick up her life and think that she couldn't have kids, deal with that. The Elle character is based on a lot of early girlfriends of mine, and women who crawled through my window who weren't my girlfriends.

After Beginners was such a focus on your father, did you feel the need to also highlight your mother onscreen?
MM: Not really, I didn't think of it that way. I was like, 'Aw shit, people are gonna ask me this.' Beginners came because all that happened, and it's a lot like a movie. It's a good movie - your dad comes out at 75 - it's a good film character. And it was a way to also deal with losing my parents, and it just kind of flooded me. In doing that, I had a little bit of my mom in that movie. It was so exciting; my mom is a real interesting person, being sort of a proto-feminist type woman, born in '25, raising this punk-rock skateboarding kid. The way she handled her life, her sense of humor, and the particularities of my life, being a straight guy raised by these women. I felt like that's interesting to talk about, it's a way to access history, it's a way to talk about how our personal lives are part of our historical shared life.
How did the casting come together? Did they smartly line up for the next Mike Mills film?
MM: I was definitely lucky to get all of them. I got Annette first, right, because she's the center, she's the sun. And once you know you have her, you can build the constellation. It's all about the chemistry, it's about the group. Each piece of casting exists in relationship to the other casting. If Annette wasn't the mom, maybe everyone else would have been different, to make that planet work, that constellation of planets. I knew about Greta, I kind of knew Greta a little bit, and I love Frances Ha. It's really easy to think of Greta as Abbie. I believe her as someone who listens to punk and all that stuff. And Elle, there were different people I was thinking about for the Julie character, and Elle is a great actress. It just sort of fit once I put the other two pieces together.

There are many ways the setting of Santa Barbara in 1979 is interesting; why set it there?
MM: Again, it's where I grew up. I just have no imagination. I knew it was very beautiful. I knew it would be easy to do 1979 there because all those hedge-lined streets; if you're doing a period movie on the cheap, you have to think about things like this. I love the idea of punk rock and Santa Barbara together - they're really not supposed to be together, and it's always good when you have that counterpoint contradiction . . . It's sleepy and overgrown and boring and soft, and oppressively gentle. I just like that.
Here you are possibly shepherding another person to an Oscar nomination - does it feel like a funny version of history repeating itself?
MM: Well, a funny version of the movie industry repeating itself. It's nothing that I design, or hope for, or count on. When you make movies about characters with big actors like that, the world puts them into that platter, and this machinery kind of kicks into place. I think Annette fully deserves it - I think Annette is a super bonkers magical actress. Watching her on set was like, 'whoa, how did you do that?' She's been my great friend and ally making the film. But the whole system is just such a whole, f*ckin' weird thing. It's a huge honor when you get noticed that way, of course, and movies like mine are kind of weird and against the grain, so any attention I get I'll totally take. Movies like this are really endangered species, so it really helps. [I'm] fully recognizing that . . . beyond that, it's Kasfka-esque, it's this surrealist, weird world, and it totally makes you crazy if you take it seriously. I try not to think about it.
20th Century Women opens on Dec. 28.
9 Possible Award Season Films You Can Watch From the Comfort of Your Couch
While the year is almost over, we don't quite have a full scope of the biggest award season contenders. Even with the unreleased Academy Award nominations as a huge holdout, though, we're starting to get an idea of what films we'll need to see before award season really gets going. Of course, the cruel catch of these cold months is that a comfy couch sounds way more appealing than a night at the movies. That's why we've compiled a list of award season hopefuls that have already been released for home viewing.
The Song From One of the Top Videos of the Year Will Get Stuck in Your Head All Day
YouTube's top videos of the year are a mix of carpool karaoke, memes, pranks, and epic moments on TV. One video that stands out is a bizarre one from "songwriter" Piko Taro, who is actually Japanese comedian Kazuhiko Kosaka. The comedian created a song called "Pen Pineapple Apple Pen" and posted it to YouTube on Aug. 25. The video now has more than 95,000,000 views and spawned people everywhere to re-create their own versions. See what the hype is all about and watch the video above.
How Liam Neeson Plays More Than 1 Role in A Monster Calls
I knew from the first time I saw the trailer for A Monster Calls that I would love it. Why? Because Liam Neeson, with his calming, deep voice, is the man behind The Monster. That is to say, he voices the giant, tree-like creature that scoops up Conor (Lewis MacDougall) and tells him stories. His baritone could lull anyone into a deep sleep; just listen to him reading the first chapter of the book that the movie is adapted from.
Peaceful, right? But this isn't the only role Neeson plays in the film, which revolves around "Mum," a dying mother (Felicity Jones), and Conor, her son (MacDougall). As the pair struggles to come to terms with Mum's terminal cancer, Grandma (Sigourney Weaver) comes into the picture, but we never meet Grandpa. We only see a very short glimpse of him in a photo sitting by the stairs. You guessed it - it's Liam Neeson. This means Conor is imagining his grandfather embodying this gentle yet commanding spirit. On the one hand, it's heartbreaking that Conor has faced another tragic loss in his life. On the other hand, he's found a way to let his grandfather live on. It's only one sweet detail in a beautiful movie.

Luckily, I've learned my lesson - if I can get my butt to the gym or out the door to start a run, I can accomplish it - it's just finding the motivation that's truly a struggle. These seven tricks have helped jolt me back in to my routine, so give them a try!

Let There Be Light
When it's dark in the morning, my first inclination is to just keep hitting snooze until I finally drag myself out of bed. To combat my early morning laziness, I've found one trick that seems to really work: turning on my light. As soon as my first alarm goes off, my arm shoots up and flips the switch, forcing me to be bathed in a warm glow. Soon, I'm out of bed and ready to get outdoors.
Warm Up Indoors
If I'm headed out on a run when the temperatures have dipped down, I wake up my mind and body with a quick warmup in the lobby of my apartment building. Sure, it looks a little silly if a neighbor catches me doing a few jumping jacks and high knees, but it's well worth it.

Gear Up
Most of the year, my go-to outfit is shorts and a t-shirt. But when I'm struggling to make it out in the chilly weather, cozy clothes make everything just a little bit better. Stylish outerwear built for the cold like warm jackets (with reflective strips if possible) or even running gloves make my time spent outdoors much more bearable.
Plug In
OK, this may seem like cheating, but on days when I'm struggling to get myself off the couch and into the gym, I'll treat myself. I tote along my phone and play a favorite Netflix show while I hit the bike or elliptical. Getting engrossed in a favorite series is a foolproof way to distract you from a workout, and it's a great way to get yourself up and off the couch - no watching unless your feet are moving!
Get Set to Sweat
I'm always cold during the Winter, so the one thing I really look forward to is getting toasty. Whether it's hitting up a Bikram yoga class or just spending a few extra minutes in the sauna post-cycling class, just the thought of basking in the heat is enough to get me going.
Lug Your Gym Bag to Work
Winter nights are the death of evening workouts. When I leave the office in the pitch dark, all I can think about is curling up under my covers with a hot chocolate in one hand and a book in the other. But if I make sure to tote my gym bag to the office, I'll know that the entire walk home I'll have a constant reminder that the gym is just a quick walk away.
Recruit a Buddy
Yes, I know I've shared my love for running alone in the past, but desperate times call for desperate measures. During the Winter, one of the biggest tricks you can pull is recruiting a buddy to hit the gym with you. No matter what you do or at what time of day, enlisting a partner will mean that the moment you start to drag your feet on the way to work out, you'll have no choice but to make it there anyway.

21 Reasons Sleep Should Be Your #1 New Year's Resolution
Sleeping is one of those things that we all say we're going to do more of . . . and then never actually do. But it's a more serious problem than you think. While we were making resolutions about drinking more water and adding more sleep to our schedules, we began to wonder what would happen if we didn't follow through on said resolutions. We know what happens when you don't drink water (it's scary), but what about when you don't sleep?
As it turns out, the effects can be crazy serious - and weight gain isn't even the worst of it.
Milder Effects
In the earlier stages, you'll experience effects like:
- Stress
- Weakened immune system
- Lowered sex drive
- Forgetfulness
- Impaired judgment and higher risk of accident
- Blemishes, dull skin, puffiness, or dark circles
Severe Effects
When you consistently don't get enough sleep, it takes a serious toll on your body - it can even lead to death.
- Greater chance of coronary heart disease and/or stroke
- Greater chance of developing diabetes
- Higher risk of cancer
- Worsened symptoms of depression
- Worsened symptoms of anxiety
- Weight gain
- Shortened life span and increased risk of death
Symptoms of Fatigue
Before you notice the effects of skipping zzzs, you'll likely notice these symptoms that may be indicators you have a serious problem.
- Tiredness (seems obvious, but . . . )
- Headaches
- Faintness or dizziness
- Aches, chills, or muscle soreness
- Loss of appetite or nausea
- Unusual irritability, moodiness
- Physical fatigue and muscle weakness
- Blurred vision

I Refuse to Work Out, but I Do These 4 Things Instead
I truly hate running. I've tried every fitness class my city offers - and living in one of the fittest cities in the country means I have a lot of options. And at-home workouts? The living room in my tiny San Francisco apartment is about as wide as my wingspan. I don't work out, but I am still the healthiest and most fit I've been in my adult life.
I know that fitness means something different for everyone, and I am not saying that working out is something people shouldn't be doing, either because they want to, because they need to, or both. But when it pertains to my own fitness regime, I can knock it, because I sure as hell have tried it all.
Growing up, I was active and athletic. I participated in an array of sports - from basketball, track, dance, and gymnastics to swimming, diving, and horseback riding. I was also an active nanny for years, and anyone who has kids or works with them knows that keeping up with two toddlers is more work than running a marathon. I loved it all and never once thought of what I was doing as a workout or as something that I had to push myself to do. Then my focus shifted significantly. No longer was I a high schooler with time to spare and a metabolism the speed of light - I was a determined college student dedicated equally to my GPA and happy hour, and then I was a postgrad professional looking for a job. When was I supposed to be squeezing in a trip to the gym, especially considering the fact that getting myself there was like pulling teeth?
Still, I tried everything to stay healthy and in shape. I bought fitness videos and watched countless online workouts for people who hate working out, for people who live in small apartments, for people who don't know body balls from barbells. I signed up for individual classes at yoga, barre, and cycling studios, experimented with different gyms, took boxing lessons, and even tried my hand at aerial silks (which were by far my favorite!). Still, nothing quite did it for me. I skipped classes, made excuses, and ultimately felt worse about myself because I simply couldn't muster the motivation everyone around me seemingly had for fitness.
What I realized about myself is this: I hate exercise that feels like effort. For me to get a good workout, the results need to be incidental, not intentional, which is why fitness activities that aren't focused on the workout aspect, but more on the fun, appeal to me most. So I stopped working out. I implemented a few simple things into my daily routine - simple being the operative word here - and I have never felt healthier, more in shape, and happier since letting go of other people's idea of what fitness should be and instead doing what really works best for me. Here's how I did it.
I stay constantly active and on my feet.
I am never, ever idle. Seriously, it's to the point where I risk running into people (and poles) daily because I read while walking through the city. I am constantly on the move, even at work. I get up and down several times an hour and take my laptop to places in the office that allow me to stand (standing desk is next on the list). On the weekends, I make sure to allow myself some downtime with Netflix or a good book, but I don't waste beautiful, sunny California Saturdays sitting on the couch.
I walk everywhere I can.
I am lucky to live in a place where walking is not only possible but also very practical. I honestly think this is the key to staying in shape for me. I walk everywhere. I have a Fitbit, but my biggest thing about having one is to not let myself dwell on the nitpicky parts of the device. I don't log every calorie I eat, and I don't use it to lose weight. I just love challenging myself every day, and having it on my wrist reminds me to take the stairs instead of the escalator and to not waver at the sight of a San Francisco hill but conquer it so that I'm rewarded with an amazing view when I make it to the top. Just this weekend I caught up with my mom on the phone while walking the three miles from my house to Target (totally worth the trek!), then hopped on a bus on the way back home since I had bags. Two birds, one stone.
I eat healthy.
I have a very healthy diet. I eat what I think is probably most similar to a Paleo diet - but I don't diet. I just try to stick to things that are natural, clean, and not overly prepared, like vegetables, fruits, fish, and meat. I also don't overeat, mainly because I can't stand feeling sickeningly full, so I am a huge proponent of multiple small meals throughout the day. It makes the workday go by faster when you get to snack on something every couple of hours, anyway! Sweets aren't my thing, but I swear by a rare steak every now and then and a postwork glass of red wine. I avoid mixed alcoholic drinks because, to be honest, I can't stand the sugar, and I drink my coffee black unless I opt for green tea instead.
I make fitness fun.
I've stopped pushing myself to go to classes and join a gym, but instead I save my energy for activities that I can get really excited about. I ski, I swim, I dance, and I ride horses any chance I can get. I'm planning my next biking trip across the Golden Gate Bridge, and my last hike took me on a five-hour adventure through a redwood forest in Northern California. I make fitness fun for myself, and in doing so, I've learned to love my version of a "workout" so much that I am more in shape than I've ever been in my adult life. I am climbing toward my 30s feeling incredibly fit, and what's more, I've finally found a way to stay healthy without hating it.
