7 Gel Manicure Mistakes That Are Ruining Your Nails
There are many reasons I love a gel manicure, but a few in particular stand out. I'm obsessed that they require zero drying time, which equates to zero probability of smudging. They last for at least two weeks. That enduring glossy finish gets me to book salon visits over and over again. But when it comes time to take off the lacquer, I admittedly get a little lazy. When choosing between squeezing a removal appointment into a busy schedule or picking and peeling on my way home from work, I'm often guilty of the latter.
It turns out that's not the only error I've been making when it comes to gel polish. Chances are, you - and your favorite salon! - are making some of them, too. That's precisely why I enlisted the help of celebrity manicurist Elle. The nail tech (who has painted the talons of Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Blake Lively) revealed that seemingly simple things can cause your gels and natural nails to prematurely crack and peel. But when applied and cared for correctly, these glossy lacquers aren't harmful to your claws at all. Read on to discover her top nail-saving tips.
Do These 10 Things in Your Kitchen to Lose Weight
The kitchen is the heart of the home, but it's also the place that can make or break you on the weight-loss front. If you're on a quest to slim down, do these 10 things in your kitchen.
- Make fruits and veggies as accessible as a bag of chips: Wash, cut up, and store produce such as grapes, melon, kiwi, strawberries, carrots, peppers, and celery in reusable containers in the fridge so they're easy to grab. Make sure they're right up front at eye level so they're the first thing you see when you open the fridge door.
- Prepare a big container of salad: Having a salad before dinner is a great way to fill you up so you eat less of the main course, but preparing a salad every night takes so much time that it's tempting to skip out. Ensure you get a bowl of greens every night by making an enormous bowl of salad at the beginning of the week. You're sure to eat a salad with dinner if it's already made - just scoop out a bowl, top with vinaigrette, and enjoy.
- Have measuring cups and spoons on the counter: Measuring your food will keep portions in check since overestimating serving sizes is a huge reason people don't lose weight. Seeing measuring spoons and cups on your kitchen counter will be a visual reminder not to forget to use them.
- Premake snack packs: You know what happens when you eat chips or crackers out of the box - you practically end up polishing off the entire package! Take your favorite healthy snacks such as mixed nuts, popcorn, cheese, and fresh fruit, grab some Ziploc baggies, and make some 100-calorie or 150-calorie snack packs you can keep in your cupboard or in a snack box in your fridge.
- Freeze fruits and veggies: Buy larger bags of fruits and veggies at the store and wash, cut, and store them in baggies in the freezer. You'll not only save money when you buy in bulk, but you'll also have them on hand to add to your smoothies, yogurt, pasta dishes, soups, and omelets. You can also puree veggies and freeze cubes to add to soups, tomato sauce, mashed potatoes, dips, oatmeal, smoothies, or use as a spread on sandwiches.
- Freeze smoothie bags: If you're in a rush in the morning, prep these fruit and veggie smoothie bags and keep them in the freezer. Just empty the contents in the blender, add the extras labeled on the bag, and you'll have a low-cal, fiber- and protein-packed breakfast that'll keep you full all morning long.
- Ditch the unhealthy foods: Your hubby and kids might be fans of an occasional can of soda, bowl of cookie dough ice cream, or Hershey's Kiss, but if those foods are within your reach, you're bound to crave them. Throw out or give away the junk, because if it's not in your kitchen, you can't be tempted to eat it.
- Use smaller-sized plates: When we prepare a plate of food, we feel the need to fill it up completely. If you start out with a smaller-sized salad plate, there's only so much you can pile on, so you'll end up consuming fewer calories.
- Double or even triple the recipe: Whether you're making soup, roasted veggies, homemade veggie burgers, or something else for dinner, don't just make enough for one meal. Package the leftovers in containers you can easily grab for the next few days' meals. If your lunch or dinner is already prepared, you won't have to resort to unhealthy takeout.
- Put food away before you sit down to eat: After you've cooked up an amazing vegan mac and cheese, serve yourself an appropriate serving size and then wrap it up and put leftovers in the fridge. If you leave it out, you're more likely to go back for unnecessary seconds or thirds. Out of sight means off your hips.

Why willpower isn't enough to keep the pounds off
It's the time of year when many of us slacken the reins on what and how much we eat, with plans of shedding any additional pounds in the new year. But it's perhaps not a good plan. The reason? Most people's bodies fight weight loss — fiercely — both during and after a diet.

This Amazing Device Will Help Women Keep Their Hair During Chemotherapy
An unfortunate side effect of chemotherapy treatment is hair loss. Though it is designed to destroy cancer, chemotherapy can also result in the damage of regularly functioning cells, including hair follicles. Losing the strands you've grown and loved your entire life can take a major emotional toll.
However, there is a hopeful new development. The Food and Drug Administration has given market clearance to Sweden's DigniCap Scalp Cooling System, a device designed to reduce the activity of hair follicles during chemotherapy in breast cancer patients.
The neoprene cap is placed on patients' heads before, during, and after treatment. This connects to a computer-controlled cooling unit with near-freezing temperatures, which reduce blood flow in the scalp. The cap also slows down division of new cells to prevent further damage from continued treatment. By regulating the behavior and activity of the follicles, the DigniCap can cut back on the amount of damage done to healthy hair cells during chemotherapy, in turn decreasing hair loss.
The innovative system is the first of its kind to be FDA approved. Researchers believe that the cooling cap can have a great emotional impact in women undergoing treatment. "We are pleased to see a product for breast cancer patients that can minimize chemotherapy-induced hair loss and contribute to the quality of life of these individuals," said William Maisel, MD, in an FDA news release.
In a trial performed on 122 women with stage one or stage two cancer, over 66 percent of participants reported losing less than 50 percent of their hair over the course of one month. Participant Deborah Cohen noted that being able to keep her mane during treatment had a huge impact on the way she was treated by loved ones and strangers. "I think it helped my children cope with my diagnosis, first and foremost, because they were able to look at me and not see me as someone who was sick," she told Glamour.
In the coming months, the DigniCap will be made available in chemotherapy treatment centers around the country. The distribution of this device marks an incredible step in the development of cancer treatment. With this important reinforcement of their confidence, patients can feel even stronger and more brave during their recovery. More women can now go into recovery without the fear of losing their hair, leaving them able to focus on the progression of their health.
The Touching Cartier Connection Between Princess Diana, Prince William, and Kate Middleton
Along with a laid-back lifestyle and charitable spirit, one of the things Princess Diana passed down to her son Prince William was a love for fine jewelry - especially beautiful Cartier watches. After her divorce from Prince Charles, Diana was frequently photographed wearing a gold Cartier Tank Francaise, a gift from her father, John Spencer. She bought William a similar timepiece from the famed French label, which she had engraved for one of his birthdays. After her death in August 1997, William chose to keep Diana's Cartier Tank as a memento - and in 2014, he gifted Kate Middleton with the Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch for their third wedding anniversary.
Not only was the watch on its own a beautiful way to connect his beloved mother and new wife, but William also went a step further by embedding a sapphire stone into the stainless-steel style to match Kate's engagement ring - which also belonged to Diana. William presented Kate with the Ballon Bleu de Cartier just before they embarked on their tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2014, and she wore it nearly every day that they were there.

15 Photos of Mahershala Ali That Will Make You Question Everything You've Ever Known
When it comes to celebrity crushes, there are the Hemsworth lovers, the royal worshippers, and the Pratt fanatics. You know who there should be? Maershala Ali mavens. Mahershala Ali maniacs? Whatever. The bottom line is that the supremely talented actor, who you probably know for his memorable role as Remy Danton in House of Cards, is not only one of Hollywood's biggest up-and-coming stars, but also a total smokeshow. We're going to be seeing a lot of his gorgeous face come award season thanks to his work in Moonlight, so there's no better time to reacquaint yourself (or get acquainted, period). 30+ Easy-to-Make Taco Salads That Are Anything but Basic
For those who love Mexican food and could eat it every single day, but are trying to be just a little tad healthier, there's taco salad. But don't be fooled. Salad doesn't equal boring. The 32 recipes ahead are evidence of just that with toppings like grilled fish, sweet potatoes, shrimp, and, for those who still want to indulge, even Doritos.

How Liam Neeson Plays More Than 1 Role in A Monster Calls
I knew from the first time I saw the trailer for A Monster Calls that I would love it. Why? Because Liam Neeson, with his calming, deep voice, is the man behind The Monster. That is to say, he voices the giant, tree-like creature that scoops up Conor (Lewis MacDougall) and tells him stories. His baritone could lull anyone into a deep sleep; just listen to him reading the first chapter of the book that the movie is adapted from.
Peaceful, right? But this isn't the only role Neeson plays in the film, which revolves around "Mum," a dying mother (Felicity Jones), and Conor, her son (MacDougall). As the pair struggles to come to terms with Mum's terminal cancer, Grandma (Sigourney Weaver) comes into the picture, but we never meet Grandpa. We only see a very short glimpse of him in a photo sitting by the stairs. You guessed it - it's Liam Neeson. This means Conor is imagining his grandfather embodying this gentle yet commanding spirit. On the one hand, it's heartbreaking that Conor has faced another tragic loss in his life. On the other hand, he's found a way to let his grandfather live on. It's only one sweet detail in a beautiful movie.

This Imaginative Game of Thrones Theory Explains How Jon Snow Will Discover the Truth About His Parents
Spoilers for season six below!
Game of Thrones has a way of letting viewers get the tiniest bit comfortable before completely ripping the rug out from underneath them - and because we've grown so confident in our assumptions about Jon Snow's origins and how he'll find out about his parents (likely from Bran, who discovers the truth after warging back to the Tower of Joy in the season six finale), it would come as no surprise if the show decided to totally shatter our expectations.
An imaginative Redditor felt the same way, and came up with an interesting alternative to Bran filling Jon in on the secret. In a long, detailed explanation that provides 18 separate citations (including both proof within the series and iconic fantasy tropes that likely inspired the show's creators), Reddit user jamieandclaire theorizes that Jon will learn the truth when exploring the Stark family crypt after retaking Winterfell. We know now that it didn't happen this way in the finale, but as crazy as it sounds, there's still a chance that it might occur in season seven.
To start, the theory purports that Ned Stark, wanting to honor his sister Lyanna's memory without endangering her half-Targaryen son (Jon), had a tomb built for Jon within the Winterfell crypts. It is a Stark tradition to prepare these graves far in advance, and the crypt is huge - there are multiple levels, one of which was blocked off to regular visitors by rubble. Here's how the Redditor suggests the revelation would go down:
Jon, upon retaking Winterfell, decides to go down into the crypts to visit Eddard's grave, but finds that Ned's bones haven't come to Winterfell yet. He instead passes by the future resting places of his siblings . . .
He stops for a moment, sad with the new knowledge that there is no life everlasting for him or his siblings. Then, remembering his nightmares [about the crypt] (or perhaps finding some clue in Ned's empty grave), he continues down to the lower levels of the crypt in the growing darkness.
His finds his way is blocked by rocks and rubble from the collapse. He considers going back, but something catches his eye beyond the obstruction. He begins pulling at stones, and sees another tomb, prepared and empty.
Clambering over the debris, he walks to the tomb and holds out the torch in the darkness, wiping away the dust from the slab. And this is what he reads.
While much of this theory is sound, some of the most convincing points actually come from the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, not the HBO show. Here are some of our favorite indications that Jon might learn his own story among the dead of Winterfell.
- Jon Snow has dreams that bring him to the depths of Winterfell's crypt: "And then I find myself in front of the door to the crypts. It's black inside, and I can see the steps spiraling down. Somehow I know I have to go down there, but I don't want to. I'm afraid of what might be waiting for me," Jon describes in the first book. Additionally, the Redditor notes that "when Ned is killed, Bran and Rickon both dream of him in the crypts, sad, saying something about Jon."
- Parallels between Bael the Bard's tale and the R+L=J theory: The story of Bael the Bard comes up multiple times in the series. Bael, the king beyond the Wall far before Jon's time, infiltrated Winterfell disguised as a singer and wooed Lord Stark's daughter. He "stole her away" (much like Rhaegar Targaryen is accused of doing to Lyanna Stark) in the middle of the night, leaving a blue Winter rose (Lyanna's favorite flower) in her bed. Many months later, the daughter returned with a baby of her own - she had never left Winterfell, simply hidden in the crypt. That son, the bastard of Bael the Bard, went on to rule the North. Can you see the connection between this lore and the theory about Jon's parentage? And it all comes back to one place: the crypt of Winterfell.
- Foreshadowing from ancient Targaryen lore: Another story repeated in the series, points out the Redditor's theory, is that of Vermax the Targaryen dragon. Vermax supposedly laid eggs in the Winterfell crypt during a visit from Prince Jacaerys Velaryon, creating a theme of Targaryens/dragons being hidden in Winterfell's hall of the dead.
- Ned Stark could totally have prepared Jon's grave in secret: Because the lower level of the crypt is blocked off by rubble, none of the Stark children or visitors would stray into the closed-off parts . . . plus, Ned Stark could have commissioned a stonemason to design the tomb without anybody finding out. Tyrion mentions in season two that stonemasons typically can't read - "He was a well-read stonemason? Can't say I've ever met a literate stonemason!" - which means that the words inscribed on the tomb would reveal nothing to the tradesman who carved them.
- This theme would honor the fantasy tradition of Lancelot: The story of Lancelot (orphaned as a baby only to become one of Arthur's knights) is arguably one of the most famous in fantasy lore, time and again inspiring authors and filmmakers. "Sir Lancelot . . . conquers a keep called the Dolorous Gard where Queen Guinevere is being held. He renames it the Joyous Gard. In the graveyard is a tomb covered by a giant jeweled metal slab, engraved to indicate that only the man who conquers the keep will be able to lift it. He lifts the tomb's slab with ease, and beneath it is written 'Here will lie Lancelot of the Lake, the Son of King Ban.' He thus learns he is a prince inside a grave," the Redditor wrote. The similarities between Jon's storyline and Sir Lancelot's - including the variations of a "tower of joy" where a woman is being held hostage - could be a huge clue that this theory is accurate.
So, do you buy this insanely detailed theory? To be honest, we're fairly convinced. While only time will tell if Jon discovers his own truth in Winterfell's burial place next season, we'd be totally on board if it ended up happening this way in the show, the books, or both.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's Best Performances Will Leave You Seriously Shipping Them
When Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony performed together (and kissed) at the Latin Grammy Awards in November 2016, the internet collectively lost it. It's not necessarily that everyone wanted J Lo and Marc to get back together (though, we'll bet most did), but it was the idea of seeing them collaborate on music again, performing on stage with all their crazy chemistry, that got us excited.
The former couple, who divorced in 2014 and have 8-year-old twins Max and Emme, gave us classics like "No Me Ames" and "Por Arriesgarnos," so, of course, we listened carefully when they debuted their new single, a remake of Pimpinela's "Olvídame y Pega la Vuelta" from Jennifer's upcoming Spanish album. They made us so nostalgic for other J Lo and Marc moments, we rounded up six of their best performances through the years. Warning: you'll probably finish this slideshow by saying, "But they are a great couple!"
5 Ways to Keep the Spark Alive in Your Long-Term Relationship
Singer, actress, fashion designer, entrepreneur, writer, and mom of two Thalia shares her parenting, lifestyle, fashion, and beauty tips as POPSUGAR Latina's contributor.
Being married or in a long-term relationship is a blessing, but it is not easy. It requires work, effort, lots of patience, and infinite understanding to succeed. If it were too easy, where would the excitement be? After a good number of years together, some couples start becoming more friends and less lovers, and some drift apart due to conflicting work schedules and separate interests. But there are things we can do to make it better, to work on keeping the spark alive! Here are five tactics I like.
Respect each other.
First and foremost, we have to understand that people in a marriage, long-term relationship, etc. need to respect each other's individuality. It is not about wanting to change your partner and telling them what to do and what not to do. It is about accepting the other person exactly as he or she is. Remember why you got together in the first place and the qualities that attracted you to your partner. I still cherish the moment I met my husband. We were on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. The qualities that attracted me to him that day are still the main reason why I love him so much today.

Develop a joint plan and make memories together.
Maybe both of you would like to renovate the house? You are eager to start a new yard project or try every single restaurant to find the best burger in your city? Recruit your partner! Be creative and enthusiastic about it! Share ideas and find common ground. By helping each other, and planning projects together, you become closer as a couple and you end up spending quality time together. There are so many ways to achieve this! You can also plan a trip, exercise to lose some weight together and support each other, or go rock climbing! The important thing is to make it fun and enjoy each other's company.
Remember to have your own time to do the things you like.
I have talked about having "me time" before, and it also applies to this one. We all have friends we like to see, hobbies, interests, and personal appointments we like to do and take care of on our time. It is important to find a balance in a relationship, and this includes being happy with yourself. For example, I like to get together with my girlfriends for lunch or meet them for dinner and a play in NYC. Seeing my friends makes me happy, and my husband is the same way. If you are both communicating and agreeing on your activities outside the relationship, and you are committed, and respectful of your partner's feelings and needs, it should work out.

Write a joint bucket list.
My husband and I have our own bucket lists, but we have decided to find items from them that we can do together. In my case, I am much more of an outdoor explorer and extreme-sport enthusiast, but he is not. Therefore, we have discussed trips and activities that we would both enjoy, and those include traveling through Cambodia, spending a whole month at a beautiful beach town fishing and relaxing, and visiting Machu Picchu in Peru, among others. If you both review your lists and interests together, you will see that a great adventure is just around the corner!
Keep the flame of love alive.
Even though it sounds like a total cliché, don't dismiss it yet. This is of utmost importance! Without love for each other, there is no relationship left. My motto is "small details go a long way." Leave a sweet note on your partner's desk or inside his/her pockets or bag. Text a simple, loving note at a random point during the day. Those things work. Many times, people lose perspective and forget why they got married in the first place. And even though in some relationships, passion may dwindle, if there is still love, there is a base to continue being happy. Show you care; show you want to be close.
Sitting down to watch a TV show or a movie together is a good opportunity to be close and feel each other's warmth. I love it when my husband softly scratches my back, massages my shoulders, or when we simply hold hands. That physical contact can be so powerful! It is important in order to create and maintain a lasting connection. Endorphins will get high and brain chemistry will allow you to feel the love.
These are some of the reasons why I love doing what I call Hug Therapy ("Terapia de Abrazos") on my social media accounts on Saturdays. It encourages loving each other. I am not an expert on love and relationships, but if I can help one person succeed in a long-term relationship, I will be extremely happy. It is great to feel loved and to give love, and I would like for you to experience that, too. I am a hopeless romantic - what can I say?

See What the New Urban Decay Afterdark Palette Looks Like on Different Skin Tones
When we learn of a new Urban Decay launch, we immediately turn into beauty detectives. We dig deep into Instagram feeds, obsessively check Snapchat, and scour makeup junkie forums in the name of tracking down the scoop. The launch of the Urban Decay Afterdark Eye Shadow Palette ($49) had us especially excited, and we knew that as soon as it hit shelves, we just had to see what it looked like IRL.
Once we did, we practically drooled. The packaging alone will inspire a purchase: it's a stunning iridescent purple reminiscent of an oil slick. Inside, it's loaded with 10 vibrant metallic hues. Three of them are returning classics (Lounge, Fringe, and Backfire), while the remaining seven are brand new, including the incredibly creamy and lustworthy bronze Off Duty.
Whether you're planning on buying it for a friend or using a gift card post-holidays to snag it for yourself, you'll want to see what the shades look like swatched on skin. Read on! We enlisted gals with four different skin tones - fair, light, medium, and deep - and used them as guinea pigs. Trust us, Afterdark does not disappoint.
The 20 Best Shows of 2016
It's hard to watch every single "great" show that comes out, but that's why we're here to tell you which ones are actually worth keeping up with. Out of all the new and returning series that aired in 2016, we've whittled down this list to 20 of the very best. From ABC's family comedies to Netflix's bizarre sci-fi series to HBO's mind-bending Western, nearly every genre is represented here. The only qualification? It has to be amazing.
Leighton Meester's Christmas Cover of Elvis Will Make You Feel Anything but Blue
Leighton Meester has been laying low since giving birth to a baby girl in September 2015. In the past year, we've seen her here and there: she made her first red carpet appearance since giving birth in May and popped up for a rare appearance with Adam Brody in August. Now that it's the holiday season, though, we can go back to a special moment from last year. Alongside singer/songwriter Dana Williams, the actress-turned-singer dropped a beautiful rendition of Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas," sounding like an actual angel. It goes without saying that these ladies certainly have a way with covers. In 2014, the two blew us all away when they sang "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac, but this one takes the cake.
6- and 7-Year-Olds Couldn't Solve This Math Test Question, and We're Not Surprised
The internet is having a field day figuring out what the real answer is to a simple math problem. A Twitter user named Louise Bloxham shared a math problem from a Year 2 (equivalent to the first grade in the US) workbook. The tweet and account are now gone but the problem asked, "There were some people on a train. 19 people get off the train at the first stop. 17 people get on the train. Now there are 63 people on the train. How many people were on the train to begin with?"
If you try solving it yourself, you'll probably get this setup: X - 19 + 17 = 63. All you have to do is solve for x, which gives you 65 as the answer:
@rachelrossiter @LouiseBloxham @MichaelRosenYes It is 65. x - 19 + 17 = 63
Therefore x -2 = 63 ...x = 65. Algebraic solution for a y2 Q.- Robyn Duckworth (@DuckworthRobyn) May 8, 2016
But if you look further into the comments, users start arguing that the answer is 46, not 65.
@teach_well @carveresque on a teacher's FB group a teacher said it was on the mark scheme as Being 46
- Louise Bloxham (@LouiseBloxham) May 8, 2016
Other commentators became philosophical and said that the math problem fails to factor in the train driver and inspector:
@PotMoss @MichaelRosenYes @LouiseBloxham Husband says "66, because we've forgotten train driver". But that doesn't factor in inspector...
- Mrs Davison (@Mrs_Dav_I_Son) May 8, 2016
The situation apparently became too much for one person, who said that everyone was "looking at it algebraically for proof purposes," when it was really just a simple equation.
@LouiseBloxham @MichaelRosenYes Question is perfectly fine. We are looking at it algebraically for proof purposes but it's simple add + sub.
- Olachi Akin (@ixXAkinXxi) May 9, 2016
Although the math question has stumped some parents and young children, the main concern here is not whether or not it can be solved, but if 6- and 7-year-olds should've been asked it. That answer to that question is simple: if there's this much debate about it with adults, then it's not suitable for children.

The Scary Reason Your Ranch Dressing Might Have Been Recalled
WinCo Foods has issued a voluntary recall of its Ranch Dressing. The reason is that some bottles were incorrectly labeled "fat free" and also failed to include an egg allergen alert, meaning people with egg allergies could be in serious trouble if they eat this particular ranch. "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product," the brand stated on its website. The affected product was distributed to WinCo stores in Arizona, Idaho, California, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington. If you've purchases a bottle of WinCo Brand Ranch Dressing at any of those locations, check the "best by" date: the recalled products are labeled best by Aug. 23, 2017. You can return your bottle of dressing for a full refund, or if you want to be even safer, you can make your own ranch at home.

14 New Hanukkah Traditions For Kids Inspired by Christmas
With dreidels, candles, and gelt, what's not to love about Hanukkah?
While kids look forward to these festive eight days every year, some are known to experience a tad of envy toward that other December holiday. With its magical tree and glowing lights (let's not even talk about the VERY generous, jolly old man), it's not surprising that some Jewish children feel a tad of Christmas angst every now and again. But with new, modern traditions, many families are reclaiming their menorah pride and infusing a festive feel into their Hanukkah celebrations.
With Mensch on the Bench as an answer to Elf on the Shelf, ugly Hanukkah sweaters, holiday cards, and even Hanukkah bushes instead of Christmas trees, it might feel like Hanukkah and Christmas are constantly competing. Instead, these crossover traditions are developing with today's culture and are a source of more inclusive fun for all involved. While some are hesitant to partake in Christmas products remade for Hanukkah, many Jewish families are embracing them as festive ways to get kids excited about the holidays.
When it comes to exploring all of these fun, new Hanukkah products and traditions, Rabbi Evan Moffic of Congregation Solel in Chicago asks, "Why not? Embrace the larger culture." So feel free to spin your dreidel, stuff your stockings, and celebrate the holidays however you please!

Jennifer Aniston Completely Nailed 2016's Top Trends - Back in the '90s

2 Holiday Hair Ideas That Will Make You Glad You Went Natural
Dressing up natural hair for the holiday season can be a challenge, especially if your locks fall into TWA (teeny-weeny afro) territory. That's why we enlisted the help of celebrity hairstylist Ursula Stephen, who has worked with stars like Rihanna, Kerry Washington, and Rita Ora, to create two new formal party styles for coarse and curly hair textures.
The first is a remix on the classic mohawk style that will give your outfit funky flair, while the second look is reminiscent of Elvis's epic pompadour. Even if you have only a few inches of hair you can pull off these looks with a little help from kinky extensions (yes, afro weave is a thing). Either style will stand out as an original next to the classic chignons and french twists at your next seasonal shindig.
