Say Sayonara to These Fashion Items, Because They Didn't Make the Cut For 2017

Why You Need to Be Eating Fat If You Want to Lose Weight
The secret to dropping pounds, reducing your risk of heart disease, and feeling better overall may just be filling your plate with fats. While eating more fat doesn't mean drowning your veggies in butter, it does mean focusing on two types of "good" fats: MUFAs, or monounsaturated fats, and PUFAs (polyunsaturated fats), which include omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
Why are good fats so, well, good for you? For one, unsaturated fats contain disease-fighting antioxidants like vitamin E, and have been shown to help lower bad cholesterol levels to reduce your risk of heart disease. Plus, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are important for keeping many of our body functions, like our immune system and heart, in top shape. If you're trying to drop pounds here's another important reasons to embrace good fats: MUFAS have been shown to help burn away belly fat.
While MUFAs and PUFAs reign supreme, a little bit of saturated fat in your diet may not be as bad as previously thought. Recent studies have suggested that saturated fats in foods like milk, cheese, and meat may not be as harmful as previously thought, after a analysis found no correlation between a high saturated fat diet and an increased risk of heart disease. Coconut oil, a plant-based saturated fat, has actually been shown to raise levels of the "good" cholesterol, HDL, in recent studies. Current guidelines still suggest limiting your saturated and trans fats intake, however, so it's up to you to make educated decisions about how much you should eat.
That said, eating more fat isn't a bad thing, as long as it's done in moderation. Remember that fats, whether good or bad, are still high in calories, so be sure to keep this in mind when you plan your diet; current dietary guidelines suggest that for a 2000-calorie diet the daily intake of fat, including healthy fats, should be no more than 65 grams. Registered dietitian Julie Upton recommends replacing "low-quality carbs or other foods rich in saturated fats" with foods high in MUFAs and PUFAs to help accommodate the extra calories. Check out our list of some of the best sources of unsaturated fats below, and keep these numbers in mind while you adjust to adding more fat to your diet.

Boy, are there struggles.
More than once, I have spoken Spanish to someone who has no idea what I'm saying, and words have come out of my mouth in a total jumble of Spanglish that not even I understand. I Made These 3 Changes at Breakfast and Finally Started Losing Weight
Despite eating (what I thought was) a wholesome breakfast every morning, the pounds weren't dropping. So why was I not losing weight? All the experts say breakfast is key to boosting metabolism, after all. I didn't realize I was making three huge mistakes, but once I changed them, I could see the difference in how my body looked.
Bye-Bye Granola
Cereal was my go-to breakfast all the way from elementary school through college. Although sweet, delicious, and easy, it was the worst breakfast for me. It's full of sugary carbs and not much fiber or protein. I even went for the healthy stuff like Kashi's GoLean Crunch, granola, and Raisin Bran, but cereal is cereal, and it's not the most nutritious choice on the menu. I started focusing on getting 13 to 20 grams of protein, at least six grams of fiber, and 10 to 15 grams of healthy fats. So I ditched the boxes for a blender and started sipping on smoothies. I also do overnight oats because it reminds me of cereal - I'm huge fan of the brownie batter and banana cashew.
What Time Is It?
Not sure where I heard that you're supposed to eat first thing in the morning and to never skip breakfast, but I followed that advice diligently. I ate within a half hour after waking up, around 7:30, even if I wasn't hungry (99 percent of the time I wasn't). I'm convinced it turned on my hunger because by 9 a.m., I was starving, which translated to eating two breakfasts, and that meant twice the calories. No wonder I wasn't slimming down! Now I wake up, get in a workout, and usually don't feel hungry until 9 or 10. Listening to my body's cues when it comes to breakfast has carried through to other parts of my day. I eat when I'm hungry, not when the clock tells me to.
Tablespoons Aren't Just For Baking
Another huge mistake? I never measured anything. When I was eating cereal, I grabbed a huge bowl - way bigger than your typical soup or salad bowl - and poured with abandon. I usually mixed three different cereals; added raisins, nuts, and blueberries or banana; and used Very Vanilla soy milk. Holy calories! No joke - my bowl was easily pushing 600. Same went for oatmeal, yogurt with fruit and granola, toast, or smoothies. I got out my cups and spoons and measured everything, making sure it was around 400 calories. To this day, I still measure everything to avoid accidentally eyeballing higher amounts.

Like most women, I was nervous about becoming a mom and worried a lot about what it would be like. I tried to prepare myself as best I could, and while I didn't read all the baby books, I definitely asked around. Before I gave birth, I knew I might be surprised by the challenges of breastfeeding and the weird noises my newborn would make in her sleep. I heard all about the squeeze bottle I'd soon keep by the toilet. And I was warned to get my sleep in now.
But there are some things I realized soon after becoming a mom that no one ever told me and I certainly didn't find while flipping through What to Expect When You're Expecting, or even when reading articles online chronicling the "37 Most Shocking Things You Never Knew About Motherhood." Here, 10 of the real surprises no one warns you about.

As a woman in love, Gwen Stefani is the perfect person for Revlon to tap to front its Choose Love campaign. The Renaissance woman (singer, TV host, fashion designer, etc) and beauty muse has been known since the '90s for her signature bold red lip, porcelain skin, and luscious lashes. So once we learn every affordable Revlon product she uses, you can bet will be buying them all!
When we interviewed Gwen about her Urban Decay collaboration in 2015, she told us that if she wasn't a performer and designer, she would have been a makeup artist. "They just put you back there, no training," Gwen said. "That was my dream. If I wasn't what I am now, I'd be a makeup artist." So we are not surprised that she is continuing to partner with makeup brands, and Revlon (known for its gorgeous red lipsticks) seems like the perfect fit.
"Love is a muse to my music," Gwen said in a press release. "Revlon's Choose Love message is an important one, and I am very excited for the opportunity to partner with Revlon and continue spreading this message of positivity and love."
Keep on the lookout for Gwen in campaigns on digital media, in stores, on social media throughout 2017. But until then, we have two behind-the-scenes images of Gwen on set for Revlon, below!

We Need to Talk About That Hot Mesh Swimsuit Jennifer Lawrence Wears in Passengers
It's not uncommon for us to leave the movie theater itching to shop. This year gave way to plenty of films packed with stylish looks, from Natalie Portman's Chanel suit in Jackie to Emma Stone's yellow dress in La La Land. While you might not expect Passengers to be a film that sparks your fashion senses, it turns out Jennifer Lawrence couldn't leave us hanging.
The actress, who plays Aurora, wears a white mesh one-piece throughout a handful of scenes, including the clip below. Its zipper-front closure lends it a sporty touch, but the piece reminds us of a lingerie bodysuit, making it equally sexy. If you're headed somewhere warm, it's just the right time to pick up the Melissa Odabash design. But even if you're stationed at home, why not invest in some trusty, flattering swimwear and keep it on the back burner? Obviously J Law would approve.

It Took Gwyneth Paltrow Less Than 1 Second to Name Her Favorite Designer Bag
When we spoke to Gwyneth Paltrow on the red carpet in NYC, the only accessory she had on was her Frederique Constant smartwatch. Fitting, since the actress and businesswoman was promoting her new collaboration with the brand. "It's the first time I'm wearing it!" she said excitedly, showing off her sleek timepiece. Gwyneth told us she'd use it to jazz up any LBD, describing its special details: "I think this is a black face with some diamonds on it, so that's a nice evening look."
Though she's a natural when it comes to mastering outfits at fancy events, we had to ask about her laid-back yet sophisticated street style - and that's when another major accessory came into play: her handbags."I tend to have Céline bags a lot. I carry them a lot," she said quickly. After a little digging, we discovered that Gwyneth's go-to design is a cobalt-blue luggage tote, but she's got some neutral options too. Read on to see shots of Gwyneth with her Céline, which just might convince you to invest in one (or a similar silhouette).

This Will Be the Most Popular Designer Dress of the 2017 Award Season
It's not uncommon for stars to start plucking dresses from the runway as soon as they're debuted. But there has been no collection so exciting to choose from as Dior's Spring 2017 line. Jennifer Lawrence and Bella Hadid have already selected more than one look from designer Maria Grazia Chiuri's debut show for the fashion house. Perhaps it's because these stylish, sensible celebrities like what the clothes stand for: a marriage of feminist phrases on graphic tees with pretty tulle skirts. Every outfit proved that a lady can look girlie, but be strong as hell in her ways.
In 2016 alone, 16 of these Dior ensembles have been shown off twice - once on the catwalk, and later on the red carpet. Though some have seen minor tweaks in colorway, straps, or embroidery patterns, these designs are clearly causing a craze. We predict it will extend far into award season, so don't be surprised when the actors gather at the upcoming ceremonies, and Dior dresses are all over the place. Scroll for all the proof.

5 Things La La Land Gets Right About LA
Though your attention might be drawn to the romance between Sebastian and Mia (or just Sebastian - no shame), La La Land's real romance is with the city of Los Angeles. It's the city where the sun is always shining and your barista is probably an aspiring actress. Or singer. Or something. What else did La La Land get right? Well, for starters . . .
1. The Traffic
The film takes its sweet time before getting you to the glitz and glam of Hollywood. The opening scene takes place in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the EZ pass lane connecting the 110 and 105 freeways, which was actually shut down twice for the cast and crew's use (imagine how happy Angelenos were those days). Time and time again, Los Angeles has claimed the top spot for worst traffic in the country. Studies revealed that residents in the LA/Long Beach/Santa Ana region spent more than 81 hours in idle traffic in the year 2015, and 2016 lived up to such expectations. It's no wonder those who live in SoCal named traffic their top concern over housing, retirement, and, oh, personal safety. Yikes.
2. The Weather
Or, well, lack thereof. If it weren't for the seasonal titles throughout, you'd have no idea how much time is passing between scenes. And although sprawling "Winter" out over a sunny, palm tree-filled backdrop is meant to be funny, it's seriously true. 75 and sunny year-round? Probably why Mia's almost exclusively in darling dresses that are reminiscent of the '50s. Just another day of sun. And another . . . And another . . .
3. Diversity
Although the film received some criticism for having a white male lead attempting to revive jazz (a primarily African-American genre), overall there's a large amount of diversity within the cast. The opening musical number alone explores this exciting and truly cosmopolitan aspect of Los Angeles. The "anyone can make it here!" message might be a tad stale, but the key here is that it includes anyone.
4. The Griffith Observatory
Partway through the movie, Gosling and Stone's characters take a romantic stroll through the Griffith Observatory. Though the planetarium in the film was recreated on a set, the rest of the location is entirely real, and it's a major attraction for both tourists and locals. Open to the public, it includes an observatory, planetarium, and exhibition space. This, unsurprisingly, helps make it the most-visited public observatory in the world. You may not be able to dance through thin air with Gosling, but you'll get some of the best and most famous views in the city.
5. The Rich Cinematic History
Director Damien Chazelle said it best in an interview with The Verge: "Living in LA, you live in a city that is full of movie history. Everywhere you turn, there's an echo of this glorified movie past." Whether it's Sunset Boulevard, Venice Beach, or Runyon Canyon Park, Los Angeles is a city immersed in the glory days of movies past.
