This Workout Class Just Pushed Me Like No Other - Here's Why You Should Take It
I've never been one to shy away from a new fitness challenge, so when I recently heard about a one-hour workout that was going to exhaust my muscles using light weights, I got excited (true story: I'm weak). A 25-year-old staple in the fitness community, the Les Mills BODYPUMP™ class has been touted as a breakthrough weight-training program, promising fat-burning effects in a positive space. It recently unveiled its 100th release of BODYPUMP and released a commemorative BP100 apparel and footwear collection with Reebok.
I'd like to say that I've taken my fair share of high-intensity weightlifting classes, but this one really stood apart. Find out everything I experienced, plus hear what personal trainer and advanced BODYPUMP instructor Ashley Pitt had to say about why it's so popular.

The vibe
The studio space was packed to the gills with a refreshing mixture of men and women. There were no attitudes and no obvious "regulars," just lots of people ready to lift. To prepare, everyone got their own step with risers, a barbell, and a few sets of extra weights. I embarrassingly raised my hand to signal that I was a newbie, and the instructor explained that we'd be changing the weight of the barbell depending on the muscle group we were working. I smiled. I like changing up weights depending on how I'm feeling. I tugged at the base of my tank top and was ready.

The warmup was no walk in the park
This was not your usual slow-and-steady jumping-jack warmup. As soon as the beat dropped, we started with an overhead press to a squat. Two seconds in and I was already doing squats. I later asked Pitt about the intense warmup. "We start with the warmup to get the body ready for movement, then hit the biggest track of class with the heaviest weight, which is squats to start the big metabolic training and calorie burn right off the bat," said Pitt. It made a lot of sense. "This track is done first so you can keep as good of form as possible with the heaviest barbell of the day on your back."
I may have done close to 1,000 reps during the workout
Throughout the class, we worked every major muscle group, switching from lower body to upper body to back to back of arms (triceps) to front of arms (biceps). So while my lower body rested, I did not - I was working another muscle group. BODYPUMP refers to this as the "rep effect," and it was exhausting. "The rep effect is an amazing benefit of [the class]. It means that you do a high volume of lighter weight and get the same advantages of lifting superheavy weights," Pitt shared. "Because we spend about five minutes per muscle group doing nearly 1,000 or more reps per class, you get great fatigue in each muscle group."
How I felt the next day
Sore. Very, very sore. I always have incredibly tight hamstrings (too much running, not enough stretching), so all of the lower-body work made things like descending stairs brutal. But it was the good kind of pain that I'm fond of. Pitt suggested taking the class two to four times a week, and I'll definitely be signing back up. This time I won't have to say I'm a newbie.

No Cooking Required For These 20 Fast and Easy Appetizers
Appetizers are always a good idea, but taking the time to cook them isn't always possible. These no-bake appetizers allow you to entertain gracefully without making too much of an effort. From salsas to cheesy bites and more, these heat-free appetizers deserve a spot at any gathering, and no one will know how last-minute you really were.
Simple Tip to Try: Cook Bacon in the Oven
A couple of years ago I watched the Barefoot Contessa roast bacon in the oven. She was making a BLT and didn't need the bacon fat. I had never thought to bake bacon, and the idea has changed my life! Now, I roast bacon all the time. It's an easy, convenient, and splatter-free way to cook it. Here's what you do:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Cover a large cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil.
- Place the raw bacon in a row on the parchment paper.
- Roast in the oven for 15-20 minutes until bacon is crisp and cooked.
- Remove bacon to paper towel lined plates, pat dry, and use however you want.
Do you ever cook bacon in the oven?
How to Keep Your Brown Sugar Soft For Eternity
The Internet offers all sorts of ways to soften up rock-hard brown sugar: microwave it for a few minutes; throw in a slice of bread or a water-soaked terra cotta disk. These ideas are great, but this is my preferred method for keeping brown sugar soft (and for "rehydrating" it): throw a marshmallow into the bag or air-tight container! I think you'll agree it's the cutest of the ideas out there. Just be sure to let it sit over night so it can do its softening magic.

5 Ways to Keep the Spark Alive in Your Long-Term Relationship
Singer, actress, fashion designer, entrepreneur, writer, and mom of two Thalia shares her parenting, lifestyle, fashion, and beauty tips as POPSUGAR Latina's contributor.
Being married or in a long-term relationship is a blessing, but it is not easy. It requires work, effort, lots of patience, and infinite understanding to succeed. If it were too easy, where would the excitement be? After a good number of years together, some couples start becoming more friends and less lovers, and some drift apart due to conflicting work schedules and separate interests. But there are things we can do to make it better, to work on keeping the spark alive! Here are five tactics I like.
Respect each other.
First and foremost, we have to understand that people in a marriage, long-term relationship, etc. need to respect each other's individuality. It is not about wanting to change your partner and telling them what to do and what not to do. It is about accepting the other person exactly as he or she is. Remember why you got together in the first place and the qualities that attracted you to your partner. I still cherish the moment I met my husband. We were on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. The qualities that attracted me to him that day are still the main reason why I love him so much today.
Develop a joint plan and make memories together.
Maybe both of you would like to renovate the house? You are eager to start a new yard project or try every single restaurant to find the best burger in your city? Recruit your partner! Be creative and enthusiastic about it! Share ideas and find common ground. By helping each other, and planning projects together, you become closer as a couple and you end up spending quality time together. There are so many ways to achieve this! You can also plan a trip, exercise to lose some weight together and support each other, or go rock climbing! The important thing is to make it fun and enjoy each other's company.
Remember to have your own time to do the things you like.
I have talked about having "me time" before, and it also applies to this one. We all have friends we like to see, hobbies, interests, and personal appointments we like to do and take care of on our time. It is important to find a balance in a relationship, and this includes being happy with yourself. For example, I like to get together with my girlfriends for lunch or meet them for dinner and a play in NYC. Seeing my friends makes me happy, and my husband is the same way. If you are both communicating and agreeing on your activities outside the relationship, and you are committed, and respectful of your partner's feelings and needs, it should work out.

Write a joint bucket list.
My husband and I have our own bucket lists, but we have decided to find items from them that we can do together. In my case, I am much more of an outdoor explorer and extreme-sport enthusiast, but he is not. Therefore, we have discussed trips and activities that we would both enjoy, and those include traveling through Cambodia, spending a whole month at a beautiful beach town fishing and relaxing, and visiting Machu Picchu in Peru, among others. If you both review your lists and interests together, you will see that a great adventure is just around the corner!
Keep the flame of love alive.
Even though it sounds like a total cliché, don't dismiss it yet. This is of utmost importance! Without love for each other, there is no relationship left. My motto is "small details go a long way." Leave a sweet note on your partner's desk or inside his/her pockets or bag. Text a simple, loving note at a random point during the day. Those things work. Many times, people lose perspective and forget why they got married in the first place. And even though in some relationships, passion may dwindle, if there is still love, there is a base to continue being happy. Show you care; show you want to be close.
Sitting down to watch a TV show or a movie together is a good opportunity to be close and feel each other's warmth. I love it when my husband softly scratches my back, massages my shoulders, or when we simply hold hands. That physical contact can be so powerful! It is important in order to create and maintain a lasting connection. Endorphins will get high and brain chemistry will allow you to feel the love.
These are some of the reasons why I love doing what I call Hug Therapy ("Terapia de Abrazos") on my social media accounts on Saturdays. It encourages loving each other. I am not an expert on love and relationships, but if I can help one person succeed in a long-term relationship, I will be extremely happy. It is great to feel loved and to give love, and I would like for you to experience that, too. I am a hopeless romantic - what can I say?

How to Make Utterly Magical Chocolate-Covered-Strawberry Unicorns
Chocolate-covered strawberries oddly are the same shape as unicorn heads, so let's decorate them as such! Unicorns are officially everywhere, proving their existence is real . . . well, at least when it comes to sweet treats like cakes, macarons, and more.
Here's what you'll need:
- White chocolate candy melts, melted according to package directions
- Large strawberries at room temperature, dried thoroughly
- Fondant, shaped into small triangles for the ears and small cones for the horns
- Edible glitter dust to sprinkle on fondant horns
- Vanilla buttercream, homemade or store bought fitted in a piping bag with a number 13 open star decorating tip
- Wilton's Valentine's Day Mix
- Wilton White Cake Sparkles
Here's how to assemble them:
- Holding the strawberries at the stem, submerge the red, fleshy fruit in the melted white chocolate (or candy melts), leaving the stem exposed. Shake off extra chocolate and carefully place on a parchment-paper-lined baking sheet.
- Slowly place the fondant ears on the top right and left of the strawberry, just below the stem. Add the sparkly fondant horn in the center.
- Use a set of food tweezers to place two heart-shaped sprinkles as the eyes (on the top third of the strawberry) and two pink pearl sprinkles as the nostrils (on the bottom third of the strawberry).
- Form the mane of the unicorn by piping 3 stars on the top of the strawberry behind the horn. Then pipe in a swirly motion down one side of the strawberry in front of one ear. It's not anatomically correct, but you'll forgive me, right?
- Carefully add a few sprinkles and colored sugar crystals to the mane, avoiding the unicorn's face.
- Allow to set at room temperature or transfer to a fridge for 20 to 30 minutes. Devour!
The Internet Is Obsessing Over This Darth Vader vs. Buzz Lightyear Battle Video
Sometimes, the internet answers questions for us we didn't know we even had. For example, I never thought about who would win in a battle between Darth Vader and Buzz Lightyear, but one fan solved that mystery in a homemade video.
Created by YouTube user Nukazooka, the epic four-minute battle shows Buzz Lightyear and Darth Vader trying to take each other down. Needless to say, Buzz finds it a bit difficult to conquer Vader's power with the Force. To see who wins the battle, watch the video above and prepare to flinch. Thank you, internet, for once again giving us the answers we need about our favorite characters.

The Parents on A Series of Unfortunate Events Are Not Who You Think They Are
Warning: spoilers for the entire season below!
Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events premiered on Friday the 13th (apt, don't you think?) in January, and there's a lot to love. Neil Patrick Harris gives an inspired performance as the show's greasy villain, Count Olaf, and newcomers Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes (who play Violet and Klaus Baudelaire) are a delight. At the end of the first episode, we also get a pleasant surprise in the form of two unexpected guest stars: Will Arnett and Cobie Smulders, who play a mother and a father. Now, it's very easy to assume that these are the Baudelaire parents. Once you get to the end of episode seven, you'll learn that's sadly not the case. Let's recap.
Episode one starts off with the brilliant Baudelaire children being informed that they're orphans now after their mansion burns down, with their doting mother and father - Beatrice and Bertrand - presumably perishing in the blaze. They're sent to live with Count Olaf, a distant relative whose only goal is to get his hands on the Baudelaire family fortune. Not only is he violent, but he forces them to cook and clean for him and his band of cronies and makes the three of them share a dirty, decrepit bedroom. In other words, it's just as unfortunate as the show's title might suggest. At the conclusion of the first episode is a ray of hope for the siblings, however, when it's revealed to the audience that two parents are alive, but in captivity. Oh, and they're "worried about the children." The final scene shows them handcuffed in the back of a van that zooms off into the night.
As the episodes roll on, all signs point to the parents being Bertrand and Beatrice Baudelaire. That is, until we reach episode seven, "The Miserable Mill: Part I." Here, we come to a moment where it seems like the Baudelaire children and their parents will finally reunite . . . but they don't. That's because Arnett and Smulders are not the Baudelaire parents at all. They're actually the parents of the Quagmire triplets. Without giving too much away, the Quagmires are another set of unfortunate children in Lemony Snicket's world. They also lose their parents in a horrible fire and first enter in book five, The Austere Academy. The Baudelaires meet Isadora and Duncan there; Quigley, the third triplet, is thought to have perished in the fire with his parents until a later book.
While an appearance by the Baudelaire parents would be a huge departure from Lemony Snicket's novels, this is still a pretty big addition. It's not exactly a change, per se; after all, the Quagmire parents still seem to be dead by the end of the season. Rather, the real change is that we never actually meet the Quagmire parents in the books at all. That means, if anything, the series has successfully enriched a bit of backstory we never got. The tragic part of this twist, though, is that the Baudelaire parents really do seem to be dead after all.
If you look to the books, it's never technically made clear whether both Baudelaires did, indeed, perish in the fire on that dreary day. One of them is rumored to have survived. Convincing theories seem to point to their mother, Beatrice, but note that she likely died soon afterward, sometime between books two and 12, The Reptile Room and The Penultimate Peril. The cause of her death is supposedly still fire, except instead of the one that destroyed the Baudelaire mansion, it was the blaze at the Duchess of Winnipeg's castle. The children never see either of their parents again, but they do hold out hope for quite some time due to suggestive information in the Snicket File.

The Play-by-Play of Janet Jackson's 2004 Super Bowl Nip Slip
Can you believe it's been 13 years since that infamous nipple slip during Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson's Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show? Well, we can hardly either! That's why we're taking it all the way back to 2004 and reliving the moment as it happened, picture by picture. Janet kicked off the performance, singing "Rhythm Nation" solo, before Justin joined her on stage with "Rock Your Body." The gasps came during the grand finale, when Justin ripped off part of Janet's top, revealing her right breast. When the racy moment was met with outrage by fans and the media, apologies and excuses were made, and the whole thing was deemed a "wardrobe malfunction." It looked pretty planned to us, but see for yourself when you check out our play-by-play of the controversial Super Bowl moment, which isn't the only sexy thing that's happened over the years.

Strong Abs Start With This 7-Minute Workout
Get the printable version of this seven-minute HIIT workout here!
When it comes to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), the pros definitely outweigh the cons. While it may feel unpleasant to push your body to go faster and harder for that short time period, the rewards are worth it: HIIT helps you blast more belly fat, save time, and burn way more calories (even after your workout is long over) than a lower-intensity workout alone. A study published in the American College of Sports Medicine's Health and Fitness Journal found that a few minutes of training at almost your max can accomplish all of this in way less time than a traditional workout. How much less? Try just seven minutes total.
The ACSM's interval workout consists of 12 exercises, which should be done at an intensity of eight on a scale of 10; each exercise lasts 30 seconds, with a 10-second rest in between. Repeat the circuit if you'd like a longer workout. Keeping the intensity up - and the rest periods short - is key, so keep reading to learn the moves and then get going! You'll need a mat and a chair or bench.

The Story Behind Each of the Songs on Sofía Reyes's Debut Album
It's hard to believe that until Feb. 3, Mexican singer Sofía Reyes didn't have an album. How could that be possible when she has already given us so many hit singles to dance to ("Muévelo," "Contigo (Rest of Your Life)") and cry to ("Solo Yo" featuring Prince Royce)? It's true! But Sofía's first full record only means one thing: there's so much more to come from her!
"I started working on this album about three years ago, which is a long time to work on a record. I'm a little nervous, I'm not going to lie. But I feel like it is the right moment," Sofía said when we caught up with her over the phone a few days before the launch of Louder!. "I've written maybe 100 songs. When I moved here, I had no idea how to do that. It's been a very interesting process for me. I feel like with this album, I found myself as an artist."
What did that process involve? Finding a sound, but also a message. "All the songs in the album have a positive message for me. The album is called Louder!, because our positivity should be louder than our negativity. When I hear the songs in this record, that is what I feel," Sofía said about her debut.
Straight ahead you'll exclusively find the stories behind each of the tracks that made the cut - from how the lyrics came to be to how Sofía added a Latin touch to selecting collaborators like Wisin, Reykon, and Prince Royce - all straight from Sofía herself.

15 Times Professor McGonagall Was an Absolute Queen
Let's talk about Minerva McGonagall for just a second. Or for an hour. Or for the next week. Professor Have-a-Biscuit-Potter never ceases to throw us for a loop in the best way possible. Expel Harry for flying a broomstick in his first year? How about - PLOT TWIST - she actually snags him a position on the Gryffindor Quidditch team as the youngest Seeker in a century. Did she play favorites by not docking points from her own House when she caught students sneaking out after hours? Nope. She triple docks Harry, Ron, and Hermione 50 points . . . each. She's fair; she hardcore; she's snarky as hell.
Apart from relating to her on a cat-lady level, I've always loved McGonagall because I've always respected her. She doesn't go easy on her students, but she cares about them so deeply. She's unyielding, strong, and an incredibly powerful witch. Most of all, it's her unwavering loyalty to Dumbledore that warms my heart, as well as her endless pursuit of the greater good. She doesn't make allowances for much, but when she does, it feels like Christmas (she always did have a soft spot for Hagrid, didn't she?). I trust her. I'm kind of scared of her (just how thin can her lips get when when she's furious?). She's who Umbridge really had to fear. She's a badass protector and professor, and through and through, she's a witch to be reckoned with. In case you needed more proof, here are 15 times she won the wizarding the world with a flick of her wand wrist and well-landed quip.

How to Make Fondant For Cakes and Beyond
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Anna Monette Roberts
Unlike regular frosting, fondant isn't applied to cakes, cookies, and desserts using a knife. Fondant has a Play-Doh-like consistency that can be easily molded, rolled, and sculpted into any shape. Traditional fondant recipes call for gelatin, glycerin, and powdered sugar, but I developed an easy hack that just involves a little unsalted butter to keep your hands clean, fondant and icing sugar, and Marshmallow Fluff.

Now, there's not really a recipe to the madness, but I used 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, 6 ounces fondant sugar, and about 4 ounces Marshmallow Fluff. This resulted in a heaping cup of fondant. I'm using this fondant for decorative elements, but if you're aiming to cover a cake, refer to this guide. Here's what you'll do: Melt the butter and lather your hands in it (be careful that it's warm - not hot - when you apply it). Lather a spoon with the butter. Sprinkle some of the sugar on a large plate or rimmed cutting board. Spoon the Marshmallow Fluff onto the plate or cutting board, and top it with a hefty amount of fondant sugar. Use your hands to knead the sugar into the Marshmallow Fluff. Continue kneading and adding more sugar until a smooth dough forms. If your hands become too sticky, simply dip them into the melted butter and keep kneading.

Now that your fondant is done, some recommend covering it in plastic wrap and refrigerating it overnight before rolling it out and shaping it. Experiment with what works for your schedule. I let my fondant rest on the cutting board for maybe an hour before I started playing with it and didn't have any issues. When you are ready to work with the fondant, try rolling it out with a rolling pin, using cookie cutters or a knife to cut out shapes, or simply sculpt it into the shapes you want. Always sprinkle more fondant sugar to keep the fondant from becoming too sticky.

The Original Girl Scout Cookie Recipe Is Sweet and Simple
It's the 100th anniversary of Girl Scout Cookie season, and People is sharing the original Girl Scout Cookie recipe for all of us to enjoy.
The first time the Girl Scouts sold cookies was in 1917 when the Mistletoe Troop of Muskogee, OK, baked and sold cookies as part of a service project. In 1922, the Girl Scouts who published the magazine The American Girl featured a recipe from a local director from Chicago, Florence E. Neil.
The simple sugar cookie recipe was distributed by the group's 2,000 Scouts. Girl Scouts across the country proceeded to bake the cookies and sell them for 25 to 30 cents for a dozen.
Head over to People to try the recipe for the original Girl Scout Cookies for yourself.

16 Reasons It Won't Be Strange When Millie Bobby Brown Takes Over the Fashion World
I knew it the moment I saw her walk onto the scene at Jimmy Fallon, decked out in a Burberry ensemble I wanted for myself: Millie Bobby Brown's about to take over the fashion world. Of course, it all started with her success on the new Netflix series Stranger Things. Millie proved she's got serious acting skills, and plenty of red carpet appearances followed.
She chose a tulle embroidered Red Valentino dress for the Emmys, a custom Armani number for the SAG Awards, and she's already sported the cool combination of a ballgown and sneakers. But for casual talk shows, Millie's in on the athleisure trend. Perhaps she's so stylish thanks to the front-row spot she nabbed at Coach during Fashion Week.
Millie's love for clothes and accessories runs deep, and we've got all the proof you need. Read on to see why the 12-year-old's about to make major waves in the industry, and follow her to keep tabs on where she heads next - and of course, what she's wearing.
Ever Wonder How Wizards Used the Bathroom in Harry Potter? J.K. Rowling Has the Answer
As someone who is constantly rereading the Harry Potter series, I still have a lot of unanswered questions. What did the veil in the Department of Mysteries actually do? Just how annoying was it to be a Hogwarts student while Harry Potter went there? Never did I think about how wizards and witches used the bathroom to poop. However, J.K. Rowling thought otherwise and clarified the matter on Pottermore.
Spotted by Reddit user Moriar-T, the passage from Pottermore comes from the Chamber of Secrets section, where Rowling breaks down the poo situation. In it, Rowling explains that it wasn't until the 18th century that wizards "copied" Muggles and made better plumbing. How did they use the bathroom before this progress in plumbing? They just went whenever they had to go and "vanished the evidence." Yes, you read that right, and if you want to read the entire passage, just take a look at the screenshot below.
Well, there you go! Now we know that wizards and witches used to just use the bathroom when they needed to and used their magic to clean up. File this under things we might've not needed to know about our beloved Harry Potter universe.
This Haunting Justin Timberlake Dance Tribute Will Have You Crying a River of Tears
Acclaimed choreographer Andrew Winghart paid the ultimate tribute to Justin Timberlake on Tuesday, which marked the singer's 36th birthday. He released a dance short inspired by Justin's iconic 2002 hit "Cry Me a River," performed by 37 professional dancers; the featured male, George Lawrence II, along with a group of 36 females - a "forceful river of women" - combine to illustrate "his emotional journey echoing his indifference at having a broken heart."
Explaining his inspiration for the short, Andrew said, "I stumbled upon the song through my iTunes shuffle and was instantly captivated by memories of loving this piece as an 11-year-old. I was struck by how modern and timeless the song felt and knew right away I wanted to choreograph a tribute piece that did the song justice through dance." Watch the stunning video above now.
Blue Ivy Carter May Be Getting Her Own Beauty Line
Building your brand starts early in the Knowles-Carter household. According to TMZ, Blue Ivy is about to get her name officially trademarked for use on goods and services. At the top of the lengthy list of potential future retail items? Beauty products! The official document on the United States Patent and Trademark Office's site declares fragrance, cosmetics, skin care, hair care, and more formulas are all in the realm of possibility.
While anything's possible, it seems very unlikely to us that Blue will be launching a brand in the next few years. We think that her name has been trademarked just in case Blue decides she wants to be a makeup mogul once she gets older. But considering how many surprises Beyoncé has shared with us lately, we're open to whatever comes our way from her eldest child. After all, Blue already has an interest in makeup!

Sofia Vergara's Sexy Dance Moves Were the Best Moment of Last Year's Grammys - Hands Down!
Pitbull brought all the high-energy Latin flavor to the 2016 Grammy Awards stage last February. Mr. Worldwide - who won his first Grammy ever for his Spanish-language album Dale in a tie with Natalia Lafourcade - made Latinos everywhere proud with his sexy show-closing performance, featuring his hit "El Taxi" and his single with Travis Barker, Joe Perry, and Robin Thicke, "Bad Man."
Oh, and did we mention Sofia Vergara was there? On stage? Dancing? Because she was, and it was the best moment of award season without a question. The Colombian-born Modern Family actress slipped out of an "El Taxi" prop as Pitbull mentioned her name on his song and started shaking her hips in a short and sparkly gold dress. We're really not sure how anyone stayed seated at the Staples Center after that. Watch it all go down above - it's literally a performance you have to see over and over to believe.
