4 Details About Season 2 of The Crown That Will Make You Royally Excited

It didn't take long for audiences to get swept up in Netflix's decadent dramatization of Queen Elizabeth II's first few years on the throne, The Crown, and it's pretty obvious why. Although there are a few things in the hit series that didn't actually happen, it still captures the essence of what it was like for the young royal to take over for her father, King George VI, after his shocking death in 1952. With season one in the bag (which reportedly came at a $130 million price tag), it's time to look forward: when do we know about season two?

The Main Cast

Lead actress Claire Foy took home multiple best actress trophies this award season for her spot-on, layered performance as the queen, so it should come as no surprise that she's signed on for season two. She and costar Matt Smith, who plays Elizabeth's husband Prince Philip, are already halfway through filming the next 10 episodes of the show, though they'll be recast for seasons three and four due to the amount of time those seasons will span. "I feel that when we reach 1963-64 we've gone as far as we can go with Claire Foy without having to do silly things in terms of makeup to make her look older," creator Peter Morgan told Screendaily in February. "She can't help the fact she's as young as she is, and if we were to go further forward we'd probably need to think about the issue of recasting everybody and so those conversations are happening now and I couldn't tell you where we'll come out."

Vanessa Kirby (Princess Margaret), Jeremy Northam (Anthony Eden), and Victoria Hamilton (the Queen Mother) are also set to return, although John Lithgow (whose portrayal of Winston Churchill earned him a few awards of his own) will likely not make an appearance due to his character's resignation as prime minister. Foy revealed how upset she is about not having him on set during a recent chat with Vulture. "It's awful!" she said "Me and Matt [Smith] did a Skype chat the other day and John was there on the end in LA. It was so amazing just to see his face! I just love and miss him so much. But saying that, I can't be unfaithful. I do have some amazing new prime ministers - Jeremy Northam, who plays Anthony Eden, and then Harold Macmillan - so I'm a very lucky girl."

The Guest Stars

New additions to the cast include Michael C. Hall as US President John F. Kennedy, whom the show's creators describe as "a natural leader and excellent public speaker who does not take kindly to being upstaged by anyone, especially his wife." Quarry actress Jodi Balfour plays the wife in question, Jackie Kennedy, who is "a seemingly natural First Lady, but whose charming exterior of confidence and glamour hides a shy woman who loathes public life." Joining Hall and Balfour is Matthew Goode, who's set to play Antony-Armstrong Jones, the Earl of Snowdon (aka Princess Margaret's future husband).

The Story

The second installment of the show will pick up with the monarch where season one left off, in 1955. We'll get to see how she tackles global events like the 1956 Suez Crisis, as well as matters of the royal family, like young Charles's education, the birth of Prince Andrew (born 1960), and Princess Margaret's marriage to Antony-Armstrong Jones. Morgan also revealed that season two will cover John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy's visit to Buckingham Palace, and that it will conclude just as Britain is on the cusp of electing Harold Wilson as prime minister (and right about the time when JFK was assassinated).

Not to be out done by her sister, Princess Margaret's adventures through royal politics will also feature heavily. Kirby told Vanity Fair that her relationship with Snowden is "exciting, dangerous, volatile, and dysfunctional," and that he "starts this whole trail of a more bohemian life outside. Margaret was best friends with Elizabeth Taylor, and she had loads of American actress friends and singers. You see these two worlds collide - hers and Tony's, who is a member of the public and was a creative, liberal, dark horse. Meanwhile, she is this epitome of the establishment." In between the ups and downs of their roller-coaster relationship, they'll presumably find time to wed (in 1960) and welcome their two children, David and Sarah, in 1961 and 1964 respectively.

The Premiere Date

While season one hit Netflix on Nov. 4, 2016, we don't yet have a date for season two.

Customize Your 7-Day Macro Meal Plan With These Mix-and-Match Weight-Loss Recipes

Have you switched to counting macros for weight loss? Many women are finding that it's a smarter approach to dieting than simply counting calories. With macros (short for macronutrients), you'll ensure you're getting the right kinds of calories vs. just looking at an ambiguous number.

Carrie McMahon - nutrition coach, trainer, macro expert, and author of Why You Should Count Macronutrients, Not Calories - knows first-hand how hard dieting can be and went through a horrible cycle of restricting calories. "I used to be a binge eater because I held to strict restrictions, and that tore my life apart," she told POPSUGAR.

"Now I don't see some foods as 'good' versus some foods as 'evil,' and I don't feel the need to binge and overeat on those 'evil foods,'" she said. "All foods can fit into my daily lifestyle, and I've learned how to eat my favorite treats in moderation instead of all-out cheat days." She built that concept into a weeklong meal plan for you so you don't have to stress about "cheat days" either. "I've picked macro-balanced recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and even dessert!"

These meals are optimized with the right macro distribution for weight loss, and you won't feel restricted at all. These are some of Carrie's favorite POPSUGAR recipes, and yes . . . there's pizza involved. "When life doesn't feel constricted by food, you'll feel free and alive, and your mind and body will be more connected and healthier than ever."

What Does Purple Ube Ice Cream Taste Like?

Filipinos have been in on the ube secret for ages, but this delightfully purple ingredient is making its way into the mainstream as of late. It's a root vegetable, likened to a yam, that is used in many dishes, but what I was really interested in is this ube ice cream that keeps popping up on Instagram. I went to Soft Swerve in Lower Manhattan to see for myself. As a fan of yams and a fan of ice cream, I felt like I couldn't possibly go wrong with this vibrantly colored dessert. Good news, y'all: it was pretty awesome.

While you can expect to wait in line for a bit and pay a bit of a steep price (my cone was nearly $8), the ice cream is actually delicious. It's really creamy and not too sweet, so after inhaling it to keep it from melting in the ridiculous February heat wave, I didn't feel my normal ice cream hangover. (You know that feeling after eating too much sweet creaminess? Ice cream hangover.) The ice cream didn't at all taste like a sweet potato, though. It had a subtle earthy, nutty flavor. It also didn't have any of the crystallization in its texture like a lot of soft serve does. Overall, this trendy new treat is a total win in my book. I topped mine with mochi and toasted coconut, and the coconut provided most of the flavor, as did the chocolate cone the dessert was served in. Overall, if you're in New York, definitely check out Soft Swerve.

Charlie Hunnam Reveals the Very Personal Role He's Writing For Himself

Charlie Hunnam has added a very personal project to his professional plate. During a Facebook Live interview with Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday, the actor revealed that he's developing a project about his father and plans to star in it. "I'm going to develop a story about my father and play my father in a film, which is really, really exciting and something that I've thought and dreamed about for a long time," he said. Hunnam's father, who passed away in 2013, was a scrap-metal dealer, and Hunnam called the project "a biographical family drama about love and conflict between ambition and family."

That theme - the conflict between ambition and family - is one that Hunnam also mentioned recently in relation to his own life. In an interview with Total Film, he said that he's been thinking about his work-life balance, mentioning his "incredibly understanding girlfriend," Morgana McNelis. "If we're going to start talking about having children and getting married," he said, "then I'm going to have to figure out a way to balance that a little bit more effectively."

It's certainly been a busy, work-heavy couple of years for Hunnam, who's starring in not one, but two of Spring's big releases: King Arthur and The Lost City of Z.

5 Theories That Could Explain Who Rey's Parents Are in Star Wars

We came away from watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens with more questions than we can count, but the one that hasn't ceased to stop itching our brains since we left the movie theater is the matter of Rey's parents. While the character, played by Daisy Ridley, is unquestionably the hero of Episode VII, much of her past and familial lineage is shrouded in mystery. J.J. Abrams shed some light on the topic during an appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016 that seems to have ruled out the biggest theories about Rey's parents, saying, "Rey's parents are not in Episode VII, so I can't possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too." Is Abrams just trying to throw fans off the scent of Rey's real parents? Now that the title of Episode VIII has been revealed, we're revisiting our major theories. major spoilers below!

During Monday night's episode of the game show, he no doubt inspired a new Saturday Night Live skit while rapping (OK, rap-reading) lyrics to songs by Kanye West, Drake, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, and Desiigner for a category titled, "Let's Rap, Kids!" Trebek, who's hosted the show since 1984, was apparently just as amused saying the lyrics as we were hearing them. "I was just getting into this rap thing," he joked after finished off the category. "I'm not too good at it but I was getting into it." Looks like that time he rapped The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song really paid off.

Orange You Confused by This Viral Challenge Involving Showers? Because We Are

My first shower orange //A lemon-person from ShowerOrange

Though it's certainly been stated before, the internet is a strange place. Supporting that claim is the latest feel-good challenge that promotes eating an orange in the shower. Why? Well, we're not entirely sure.

It all started over a year ago with a Reddit thread. In that thread, users were asked to share unconventional habits that everyone should try. That's when one user said they start their mornings by eating an orange in the shower. Apparently, the shower is the best place to eat oranges because any stickiness you might normally get on your hands in the peeling process is washed away.

Now, an entire subreddit is dedicated to the quirky preference. It's simply titled Shower Orange. On that page, you'll find countless pictures and stories from people who have fallen in love with the fruit-eating method. According to the rules, grapefruits and posts containing nudity are not allowed. Clementines, tangerines, and blood oranges, however, are all welcome.

This year, Ruth Negga, Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, and Andrew Garfield all received nods for playing real people. There are many more among the Hollywood elite who have won a statue for spot-on portrayals of real people (so many that we can't even list them all here!), but take a peek at this short list of memorable performances.

The Surprising Truth Behind How Celebrities Get Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Have you ever wondered why a younger celebrity like Adam Levine was awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame before, say, Denzel Washington? Or Julia Roberts? Even George Clooney doesn't have a star. It turns out there's a very interesting but simple reason. Although you might assume getting a star is an honor, it actually involves a detailed application process that ends with the celebrities paying for the stars themselves - and it's not cheap.

Each year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce narrows down a list of about 20 celebrities who will receive a star, but the process starts way before that. A celebrity first has to be nominated by someone - their publicist, or even a fan wealthy enough to sponsor their star, for instance - and then the celebrity must consent to the nomination. This entails signing a form saying that they not only want the star but that they'll also be there when it's unveiled to the public during a ceremony (not everyone is required to have an appearance as cute as Ryan Reynolds did, unfortunately).

Once that's done, their application is submitted. If theirs is one of the select few that the Chamber of Commerce accepts, whoever nominated them has to pay the cost of the star: $40,000. Sounds like a pretty hefty sum for a chunk of sidewalk, right? According to the Chamber of Commerce, a portion of the price tag goes toward constructing and installing the actual star, and the rest is for "maintenance of the Walk of Fame." That amount of money is surely chump change for A-listers who haven't yet gotten a star, so maybe they're too busy to attend a ceremony or simply don't think having their name forever etched into Hollywood Boulevard is worth it? Once an application is accepted, the celebrity has up to five years to schedule a ceremony, so who knows - you might be taking Instagram photos of your sneakers next to their name sooner than you think.

Flashback: Rachel McAdams Pulled a Style Move No Star Ever Has Before at the Oscars

"Mmhmm, beat that," Rachel McAdams seemed to be thinking in this photo, as she walked the Oscars red carpet in 2016. That's because she was wearing a gorgeous teal gown so new, it hadn't even debuted yet. Her halter-neck, open-back August Getty Atelier design was shown later on the runway at Paris Fashion Week as part of the label's Fall 2016 collection. But we got to admire the look on Rachel way before that.

Rachel's stylists told People the actress originally chose the gown for the Vanity Fair afterparty sans train, but when she couldn't stop thinking about the original dress, they whipped up a new creation for the ceremony. To all the ladies who still request their gowns after they strutted the catwalk, keep up. Read on to see Rachel's biggest style move to date, and zoom in on her Stuart Weitzman heels and gorgeous diamond drop earrings.

I Gained Weight, but It's Probably Not For the Reasons You Think

During the last few months of 2016, I gained about 10 pounds, an amount that would send some people into a tizzy if they gained it over the course of an entire year. But I did it in a mere three months, my body noticeably transitioning to an entire pant size higher.

In January, I found myself in a spot where I was able to get back on track, and it didn't have anything to do with the whole New Year's resolution obsession thing. When I mention the return of my gym-going, roasted-broccoli-eating habits to others, some immediately say, "Oh, I know (patting tummy) where you're coming from. The holidays were so hard with all that food around, right? Then Super Bowl and all the food that comes with that territory has to happen."

Here's the thing. Weight gain is not always about shoveling a plate of Grandma's chocolate chip cookies in your mouth in one fell swoop. It can be - as was the case for me 10 years ago when I was 70 pounds heavier - but it's not always. So please don't assume that I - or anyone else who has gained some weight - have done so because I sit around eating all day.

It's not always about the pizza, the holiday (or birthday, or anniversary, or promotion) dessert trays, or the inability to refrain from devouring an entire block of cheese in five minutes. Nor is it about a fear of the gym or coming up with an excuse to skip the treadmill.

Case in point: the last few months of 2016 saw me in and out of the hospital for several procedures, tests, and a surgery. Then my father-in-law died less than two weeks before Christmas, which was nearly two years after my own father passed - hardly moments causing me to sign up for a 5K. Incessant worry about why my digestive system was acting up meant more time with my doctor than the elliptical.

All the worrying also became tiring. Who wants to go to the gym when the bed will do? I can often become mentally and physically paralyzed when health worries strike. I become quiet, often attempting to become my own doctor while simultaneously reflecting on the intricacies - both healing and hindering - that make up the human body. So this was no time for me to head to the gym or make my usually healthy meals. Why wait to preheat the oven, chop, roast, and then eat olive-oil and hemp-seed-infused broccoli when a handful of prunes would suffice?

I was on a health carousel - an endless loop of doctor's visits, calls, and questions became my never-ending norm. If it wasn't the worry and research that kept me from exercising, it was the sheer fact that I was physically unable to perform, well, much of anything in the way of fitness.

I also needed time to heal. After having a skin graft done, I was in a cast for one week. Even after it was removed, I wasn't about to attempt gripping a dumbbell with recently removed stitches and palm soreness. Plus, doctors specifically told me to lay off physical exertion in order to ensure an ideal healing process.

The only time my eating habits strayed was when my father-in-law passed away. Between hospital visits, trips to other family members' homes, and discussions with medical staff, flax seed and insoluble fiber habits weren't even a thought. Grabbing breakfast burritos on the go or enjoying the hospital room's cart of assorted muffins was convenient and seemed a logical move. Of course, eating such sugary, warm, and buttery foods comforted me during this time of sadness. Vivid memories of my own father's death resurfaced during this time, even the ones that I'd forgotten. Facial expressions, fidgeting, words, the changing body, dying, death. New sadness mingled with old sadness, temporarily undone by the rush of life I felt when eating yet another cherry pastry puff, and another.

There are ebbs and flows in life, and sometimes weight gain is a part of it. Nothing is truly constant. Life is filled with changes and challenges, so why shouldn't we expect the same when it comes to our weight? It's time for people to stop instantly jumping on the stereotypical "lazy, potato-chip eating" bandwagon whenever they encounter someone who's gained weight. It's a quick, unfair judgment. It's not always about food, whether it be the kind or the amount of it. It's about so many more things, including time constraints, physical setbacks, and emotional fluctuations - good and bad.

As is typically the case in any situation, there's often more to the story than our hastily made assumptions. So in this case, let's look beyond outward appearance and welcome the notion that maybe, just maybe, there's more than meets the eye.

7 Rumors About the New iPad Pro That Will Make You Super Excited

Move over, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: Hints of what the new iPad Pro models hold are here and it sounds promising already. The rumors include a new iPad Pro size and display, and even a lower price.

The news comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, a respectable and reputable Apple source. Kuo released a new report that MacRumors sums up. The details are below.

  1. More iPads: The report states the three new iPads will be released in 2017, from 9.7-inch to 12.9-inch models.
  2. A new iPad Pro size: In addition to keeping the 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pro, Apple intends on announcing a 10.5-inch iPad Pro.
  3. Reduction in price: The 9.7-inch iPad Pro will reportedly come as a "low-cost" model.
  4. A new display: Kuo's last speculation surrounds a new "revolutionary iPad model" coming in 2018. The new iPad will include a "flexible AMOLED panel."

However, noted blog Macotakara states that we can expect to see new versions of the iPad Pro's, according to Mashable.

  1. Two new sizes: We will see two new sizes come to the iPad Pro line: an iPad Pro mini with a 7.9-inch screen and a 10.1 inch screen. The iPad Pro mini is expected to have everything the Pro line has like the smart connector.
  2. An improved camera for one iPad Pro model: The 12.9-inch iPad Pro will receive an improved camera, with 12 megapixels and True Tone flash.
  3. A release date: In another report from Macotakara, the blog suggests Apple will announce the new iPads in March.

For now, it looks like we'll need to wait to see what actually happens, but these are pretty promising rumors about the new iPad line.

If Anyone Could Start a New Hat Trend, It's Cindy Crawford's Daughter

The first thing you might notice upon seeing Cindy Crawford shopping with Kaia Gerber, is, well, Kaia's furry pink coat. The Pam and Gela design is hard to miss. But zoom in closer and you'll recognize the mother-daughter duo's stunning similarities, like that perfectly flowing brown hair. Though it appears it was a hat day for Kaia, who opted to try out the newsboy cap right in the middle of Fashion Week. There's no better time, really, to experiment with a new trend.

It's one that supermodel Bella Hadid's a fan of - she included the same style in her Chrome Hearts collection. But Kaia makes the hat all her own, accenting the Brixton piece with '90s essentials like leather leggings and combat boots. Scroll for a closer look, and see how Bella wears her own newsboy cap too. By then you should be plenty ready to shop for your own and try it on for size.

Mom Confession: My Kid Only Eats Encased Meats and Carbs

I never expected to have a picky eater. My oldest child has always been an adventurous diner, counting apples, shrimp, and olives as some of her favorite foods before her third birthday. She'll down a bowl of tomato soup, slam a side of peas, and consume any kind of fruit you put in front of her at an alarmingly rapid clip. She likes steak and chicken and fish, she begs for red pepper strips as a snack . . . I mean, she's been known to eat bowls of steamed broccoli plain.

She's not perfect, of course, being equally devoted to Pringles, candy in all forms, and ice cream by the pint, but I have never once worried about the variety of her diet. And then I had my son, and I realized that not all children are created gastronomically equally. This kid? All he wants to eat is encased meats (chicken sausage for breakfast, hot dogs and corn dogs for lunch and dinner), chicken nuggets, and carbs, with chips, frozen waffles, and cookies leading the charge.

Was it something I did? It's hard to tell. During my daughter's pregnancy, I craved burgers and milkshakes and survived primarily on both. Salads made me want to throw up, so my vegetable intake was paltry. After gaining 45 pounds with that pregnancy, I decided I'd eat healthier with my next one. Luckily, green juice was (weirdly) my biggest craving, and I also wanted salads, lean protein, and far fewer milkshakes.

Yet my first baby came out begging for broccoli while my second recently told me that just looking at berries makes him want to puke. Berries. (By the way, I also gained 45 pounds with my second pregnancy. So much for healthy eating.)

Of course, I've tried to introduce foods to him in all the ways parents are told to in order to raise healthy little eaters. I've sneakily put fruits and veggies in smoothies, which he'll often concede to trying as long as they're not green. I've presented him with whole wheat noodles, avocados, carrots, and any other gateway healthy food I can think of time and time again. But he's smart and opinionated and fully committed to his meat and carb (with a side of cheese) diet.

Try carrots with a dipping sauce like ranch or hummus or a leaner meat with ketchup, other moms have suggested. I tell them that I have the only child on the planet who hates ketchup and all other dipping sauces, minus a light spread of tomato sauce on his pizza, topped with sausage, of course.

I've tried shaming him, but frankly, the kid doesn't give a sh*t.

I've tried shaming him, comparing his limited diet to his sister's more varied one, but frankly, the kid doesn't give a sh*t. If his sister wants to stuff herself with dreaded green vegetables, so be it. He's sticking to his favorite Trader Joe's turkey corn dogs.

I'll admit, I haven't yet tried to make his food more "fun" by cutting an Ezekiel bread and organic turkey sandwich into the shape of a shooting star or artfully arranging various veggies into a beautiful field of flowers, because one, I don't have time, two, I'm lazy, and three, I don't think it would really help.

For now, I'm just buying chicken sausage in bulk and hoping that the organic chicken nuggets I just fed him are slightly better than the McDonald's version that he obviously prefers. And maybe someday I'll get him to try one of those gag-inducing strawberries in something other than a milkshake.

The Biggest Dress Reveal Will Go Down at the Oscars - and It Will be Stunning

With the 2017 Academy Awards coming up (it's this Sunday!) the lofty question on everyone's mind is who will be wearing what. Enter your best guesses, but we have a solid lead on at least one red carpet look: a custom Marchesa gown for fashion influencer Olivia Culpo. The chosen dress will incorporate glass beads made from Stella Artois's limited-edition chalices - for each one sold, clean water is delivered to developing countries – and the look will be the first Marchesa gown to ever be made out of glasswear. "It's giving back in style," said Olivia when we asked her about the partnership. The Marchesa dress, it seems, is already threatening to steal the red carpet spotlight with its powerful backstory. While you wait for the big reveal on Sunday, read on for other pre-Oscars tidbits Olivia shared with us. Then, check out what other stars you can expect to see on the red carpet.

This Year's Met Gala Will Be Co-Chaired By the Most Stylish Couple Yet

The 2017 Met Gala theme has been announced. The focus will be on Comme des Garçons's designer Rei Kawakubo, which is pretty crazy in and of itself. This makes Kawakubo only the second living designer to be honored at the annual exhibit, following Yves Saint Laurent in 1983. Since Comme des Garçons is known not only for avant-garde looks that shape the figure in dramatic ways, but also for iconic street style items, the event calls for some experimental cochairs.

According to People, Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen will co-chair the event, which they've been attending since 2008. Anna Wintour will be hosting alongside Katy Perry and Pharrell, who worked on a perfume with Comme des Garçons for his Girl album in 2014. Read on for a quick preview of what we expect to see on May 1 when the gallery doors are finally opened and the red carpet rolls out.

We're Bigly Excited For This Hilarious Trump-Inspired Product From Lush

Recently, Lush held its annual Summit, an event during which media, fans, and staff get a glimpse at what's coming next from the brand. This year's theme was activism, a core philosophy for Lush. (Remember the #GayIsOK soap? The profits went to grassroots groups working for equal rights around the world.) Donald Trump's recent inauguration has inspired an international outpouring of activism, so Lush has combined the two in a cheeky new product: Yuge.

Yuge is a volumizing hair mask, part of Lush's new and improved range of hair treatments. (In an effort to be more sustainable, the brand is doing away with its jars and converting the formulas into meltable blocks on lollipop-like sticks that dissolve in hot water.) Yuge contains enzymatic pineapple to slough away grime and ground-up peppermint to invigorate the scalp. Jojoba oil, olive oil, and honey all add softness and manageability to your hair.

Lush was very clear about the product's namesake. A man dressed up with an enormous orange head modeled to look like Trump's walked around the Summit, making the president's signature hand movements. But based on recent news from Lush, it's clear that this hair mask isn't a loving tribute to the politician.

Over the past 20 years, Lush has not changed the "We Believe" statement that is prominently displayed in each shop - that is, until now. The company will be adding to the declaration with, "We believe that all people should enjoy freedom of movement across the world."

"Lush has always championed for inclusivity and acceptance in diversity, so it's no surprise that we've chosen to take our stance on the kind of future we want to live in," said a representative from the brand. Considering that the legal status of so many refugees is still up in the air in the United States, we fully support this strong point of view from the Lush team.

If you can't wait to get your hands on Yuge, you'll have to wait. It's still in the development stage and currently being tested (only on humans!) in the brand's hair lab in Dorset, UK. Once it's finalized, it will likely launch there first, then come to shelves in North America. In the meantime, keep reading for a sneak peek at the product.

7 Surprising Ways Babies Can Change How You Get Dressed Every Day

Moms get a bad rap when it comes to their wardrobes. Mom jeans (and I'm not talking about the cool kind), yoga pants on women who haven't done a Downward Dog in years (minus that time they had to retrieve a sippy cup from underneath the couch), appliqued Christmas sweaters worn not at all ironically . . . these are "mom" clothes, or so we're told. Of course, we know that's all cliched baloney, and moms are some of the most stylish women in the world (hello, Beyoncé, Amal Clooney, and every other celebrity that has held on to their fashion icon status through pregnancy and motherhood).

However, there are some unexpected ways that motherhood will change how you dress, and we're not just talking about the fact that you won't have time to shop, primp, or, some days, even look at yourself in the mirror. Here are seven surprising ways that having a little one might change your look.

  1. Easy access becomes a "top" priority. When you're breastfeeding, wearing a shirt that makes your milk makers easily accessible is key. Button-downs and deep Vs were my preferred choices, while bulky sweaters (too hot), any top with embellishments (ouch!), and anything too form fitting (stretch-out city) were all out.
  2. Statement earrings, necklaces, and even rings stay in your jewelry drawer. Babies and toddlers love to pull on earrings and chew on necklaces, making wearing either an exercise in bodily defense and distraction. Pregnancy is also likely to cause your fingers to swell, a condition that can take months to subside post-delivery. So all your favorite baubles will probably be retired, temporarily at least.
  3. That spritz of perfume is a thing of the past. There's something that feels wrong about dousing yourself in a strong scent and then carrying a baby around all day. Not only can babies be sensitive to fragrances, but perfumes have a tendency to transfer themselves to your baby, as anyone with a spritz-happy mother-in-law can tell you. And no one wants their baby to smell like Grandma's Shalimar.
  4. Heels aren't just uncomfortable but dangerous. Props to all the women wearing heels at nine months pregnant, but when their child is nine months old, we bet those stilettos will be mostly stashed, reserved for baby-free outings only. Carrying a baby while wearing four-inch stilts? Not so safe.
  5. Machine washable is a must. Everything you wear while you're with your baby will probably end up covered in spit-up, milk, saliva, and god knows what else. So your go-to silk top? It might as well have a "proceed with caution" label sewn next to the "dry-clean only" one.
  6. Black and white are in the danger zone. If you have a baby who is prone to spitting up, you better believe they'll do so all over your favorite black shirt. White is equally dangerous, especially when you add baby food to your child's diet.
  7. Your clothing budget isn't just for you. A $200 dress used to be a fun impulse purchase, but now that your clothing budget has to cover a baby that grows out of their entire wardrobe every few months, suddenly shopping for yourself can come with the extra cost of guilt.
