Every year we wait nervously for those looks, the ones that take our breath away.

The 1 Thing Moms Consistently Forget to Take Care Of
My firstborn was about 18 months old when I cracked a filling. It wasn't really painful, but it was sensitive and annoying, so a few days later, I drove the two-and-a-half hours to my mom's neighborhood, where I'd made an appointment with my childhood dentist since I didn't have one in the town we'd moved to six months before. I also didn't have a general doctor and had only recently started researching ob-gyns because I was thinking about getting pregnant again. (Of course, I had found a pediatrician and a dentist for my daughter long before we unpacked a single box in our new home.)
I left my daughter with my mom and headed into the dentist, where the dental hygienist greeted me, looked at my records, and informed me it had been over two years since my last visit, just a few months before I got pregnant with my daughter. I had been so busy taking care of her, both in utero and in real life, that I had most definitely forgotten about myself.
Sound familiar? Among the moms in my life, it seems to be a recurring theme. We are all on top of our children's health, making them their weekly, monthly, then biyearly, then yearly well visits as they get older, running to the pediatrician any time they spike a fever or complain of an earache, taking them to the dentist every six months, and driving them to specialists to diagnose and fix any potential ailment. They are our charges, and it is our job to keep them well.
4 Signs You're Burnt Out as a Mom
And in the process, we often completely forget about our own health. We might drag ourselves to urgent care when we realize that waiting out whatever we've come down with isn't working, and of course, we'll see our ob-gyn regularly in the years that we are trying to grow our families. But once we have them, those families take over our consciousness, and suddenly, it's been almost three years since you've been to a dentist.
If you are guilty of forgetting about your own health and wellness since you've become a mom, here are some simple steps to reprioritize yourself and why it's so important.
- Remember healthy meals and regular exercise are just as important for you as they are for your kids. You wouldn't feed your kids french fries and let them sit in front of the TV all day, every day (once a week tops, right?), so don't shortchange yourself when it comes to diet and exercise. Buy more strawberries and actually eat them instead of just saving them for your berry-obsessed toddler, and find an exercise program that you like (all the better if the gym has child care) so you'll stick with it.
- While you're healthy, find yourself a general practitioner, dentist, and any specialists you need that you actually like. Having a roster of healthcare providers makes it much easier to deal with any issue that comes up and means you'll be less likely to ignore a problem because of the added burden of finding a doctor that can help. Finding someone who meshes with your personality that you like and trust can take time, so start now.
- Set reminders in your phone to schedule regular well visits and checkups. After every dentist and doctor's appointment, I've learned that I need to either immediately schedule my next appointment or set a reminder in my phone a month or so before the next one is due. Otherwise, it might just slip my mind for years.
- Find ways to manage your stress. Motherhood is a tough job, and finding ways to bring your stress level down, whether it's reconnecting with friends, getting a monthly massage, or (shocker!) even going back to work part time, is important for maintaining your health, both physically and mentally.
- Remember your health also affects your partner and kids. When Mom's down for the count, everyone feels it. So by taking care of yourself, you actually are taking care of your whole family.

Kendall Jenner Channels a '90s Mom in the Trendiest Hoodie at Fashion Week
Vetements x Champion hoodies are all over Fashion Week. From New York to Paris, showgoers and models alike are being snapped in the cozy sweatshirts with exaggerated sleeves, cutouts, and run-off logo straps. But after the Fendi show, Kendall pulled out a tidier piece from the hit collaboration: a baby-pink cropped design. Kendall showed off her signature style in a look that screamed "'90s mom" thanks to high-waisted khaki trousers and a square chainstrap bag.
Spotting Kendall (or any of the Kardashian-Jenners) in Vetements x Champion isn't unusual. Perhaps that's because Kim, Kanye, and the rest of the family are good friends with Vetements designer Demna Gvasalia, and he just might have stocked their wardrobes. Besides, Khloé, Kourtney, Kylie, and Kendall seem to be maintaining a whole closet full of sweats these days, Kourtney keeping her own Champion x Urban Outfitters coordinates in steady rotation. Scroll for a look, then shop a bunch of their separates for yourself.
You'll LOL Until It Hurts With Selena Gomez's Funniest Interviews
Selena Gomez has a serious sense of humor. If you don't believe us, simply scroll ahead. You'll find 11 moments she made an interview funnier and, therefore, way better by being irreverent, totally honest, and straight-up adventurous.
We could never forget that time she made her carpool karaoke session with James Corden on The Late Late Show a literal rollercoaster. Or that other time she seriously opened up about her hair being, er, totally fake. And believe us when we say, that's not even the best of it.
You Can Buy Straight From Fashion Week's Runways - Right This Way
Last Fashion Week, one of the biggest conversation starters was the see now, buy now show. Brands and designers like Tom Ford, Michael Kors, Thakoon, and Burberry debuted shoppable runway looks and shook up the industry. Instead of waiting an entire season to buy that It bag or top that caught your eye, customers could now buy it minutes after they saw it on the catwalk.
The same is true of this season's collections. Rebecca Minkoff already released her Spring '17 line during a show in LA (in lieu of a show at New York Fashion Week), while H&M is following suit at Paris Fashion Week. Read on to see who's making their collections shoppable in real time so far. Then, stay tuned for more shoppable items from your favorite fashion houses all Fashion Month long.
This "Hello" Parody Video Is a Sepia-Toned Display of Mom-Life Realness
By now you should immediately be able to sense an Adele parody coming on when you spot a (now iconic) sepia-toned video pop up on your Facebook feed. Singer/songwriter Emily Mills's "Hello From the MotherSide" parody is no exception to the sepia rule, but it's definitely standing out to us among the rest due to its comical relatability (and her killer voice).
From her own personal mama woes ("I must've tried a thousand times to tell her this homework is really breaking my heart") to her understanding that her mom friends are down in the trenches with her ("Mama, how you been? I can tell you've been stress-eating from the Cheetos on your hands"), Emily has created a parody that will for sure resonate with every mother out there.
If you're on the MotherSide as well and "think you might break down and cry" basically all the time, watch the video and prepare to feel truly understood.

GIFs That Perfectly Show the Stages of Easter Sunday With Your Family
If we're honest, the end of Lenten season is about honoring religious traditions, but it's also (mostly) about celebrating family in a big, sweet way. And when we talk about family get-togethers as Latinos, we know that this means - dressing up, lots of food, a large group of "family" members, and speaking over the soundtrack of the day. Here are 11 stages a Latina might experience over Easter Sunday.
18 Celebrities Who Are Just as Shocked as You About That Best Picture Flub at the Oscars
The 2017 Oscars ended with a shocker that left everyone floored after actress Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land as the winner for best picture. The coveted award actually went to Moonlight and was corrected by La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz. "There's been a mistake. Moonlight won," Horowitz said to the audience. "It's not a joke," he added, addressing the Moonlight cast. "This is not a joke, come up here." The confusion sent shock waves across social media, in the audience, and on stage, with celebrities sharing their bewilderment at the mix-up and showing support for Moonlight's well-deserved win.

Parents Be Warned: Your Baby Isn't Safe From a Sunburn While in the Shade
It was our first trip away with our firstborn. We drove a few hours south to spend a few much-needed days out of our house and in the fresh ocean air. As a first-time mom, I was prepared, or at least I thought I was. I had multiple options for shade during our beach day, an umbrella and even a Shade Shack. I brought a protective sun hat and dressed my baby in a onesie to keep him cool but covered.
He was just 8 weeks old, so heeding the warnings on the bottle and the advice I'd read online to forgo sunscreen use on children under 6 months old, I didn't apply any, leaving his face, bald head, and limbs mostly uncovered. When he fell asleep after a nursing session in the Shade Shack, I placed him on a towel under the umbrella so he would have plenty of cool airflow while he snoozed. He was completely in the shade with even a few feet of sunless space to spare all around him.
After weeks in the newborn baby haze, those hours at the beach were just what my husband and I needed. We left feeling refreshed and accomplished that we'd tackled our first sandy trip as parents. But shortly after we headed inside, we noticed that our baby's face was flush and his bald head was running hot. We chalked it up to the heat and kept him in the air conditioning. A few hours later it was obvious that the redness wasn't subsiding but actually getting worse. We didn't even consider that he'd gotten sunburned because he was in the shade the entire time!
Once I finally realized that a sunburn is indeed what had happened, I was, as you can imagine, in a first-time-mom panic. Not only did I feel all the guilt, but after a middle-of-the-night call with an advice nurse, I felt totally helpless. There really was nothing we could do but apply aloe and let it fade out on its own. It was my first experience with the devastating feeling that I'd failed as a mom. Even though I had been so conscious of the sun that day, I had no idea that UV rays could get to him while he was in the shade.
According to a study in JAMA Dermatology, umbrellas can't shield beachgoers from rays that bounce off the sand under the umbrella. They concluded that the best approach to sun protection involves multiple layers, such as clothing and sunscreen, in addition to shade. If I'd known this, you bet my son would've had his hat on and limbs covered inside the Shade Shake all day. Lesson learned.

We Guarantee You Missed This Hilarious Chrissy Teigen Moment at the Oscars

Few people were having as much of a good time on the Oscars red carpet than Chrissy Teigen. In addition to flaunting her goals-worthy relationship with husband John Legend, the Twitter queen also finally met her celebrity crush Sunny Pawar. Apparently all the excitement tired her out, though. Once the show got going, there was a cut-away shot to Meryl Streep sitting in the audience, and although most eyes were on the 20-time Oscar nominee, something was up with a certain Sports Illustrated model in the background. The moment happened during Casey Affleck's acceptance speech for best actor, and it sure looks like Chrissy is taking a nap on John's shoulder. If we were constantly shutting down social media trolls, whipping up delicious meals, hanging with our adorable daughter, and tired of all these unfair wins in 2017, we'd probably want to take a quick snooze, too (for the record, she eventually woke up).

Golden Milk: The Antidepressant, Debloating, Weight-Loss-Boosting Wonder Drink
Ready to simmer down and give your body a boost before bedtime? We've got the perfect, healthy nightcap for you, and you may have heard of it: golden milk.
Used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine, golden milk is a combination of the powerful spice turmeric, coconut milk, and sometimes coconut oil. Black pepper is often added (in small amounts) to increase the bioavailability of (i.e., your body's ability to absorb) the superspice turmeric. Creamy and spicy, soothing and warm - this delicious drink is more than just a tasty treat. Rich in electrolytes and digestive-aiding properties, your body is going to love every sip.
- Benefits of Turmeric: Turmeric's benefits are so good, one 2013 study said it's almost too good to be true. The anti-inflammatory spice has "shown therapeutic potential against a number of human diseases," including cancer and could even help with Alzheimer's. Because of the reduced inflammation, turmeric can also help with gas, bloating, and digestive discomfort, and some studies have mentioned its help with weight loss. Also, some studies and sites have shown that turmeric has antidepressant properties, leading to better moods, less stress, better sleep, and improved brain health.
- Benefits of Coconut Oil: Similarly, coconut oil can help with digestion and gut health, thanks to its antimicrobial properties (which come from good fatty acids, MCFAs). The healthy fats can also raise your good cholesterol, HDL.
- Benefits of Coconut Milk: Did you know that coconut milk can also help with digestion? It "nourishes the digestive lining" with natural electrolytes and healthy fats, which can improve gut health and help with IBS. Like turmeric, it can help reduce inflammation and even aid in weight loss. MCTs, another kind of fatty acid, are found in coconut milk and help with physical performance - allowing you to build muscle and lose fat.
Ready to mix up a batch? We like flavoring with a little honey or agave and sometimes a bit of vanilla bean or vanilla extract, cinnamon, and ginger. You'll be sweetly sipping your way to health in no time!
Who Is Jordan Horowitz? Get to Know the Man Who Graciously Handled That Oscars Flub
This year's best picture win - and loss - at the Oscars will forever go down in infamy. While presenting the winner, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway pulled a Steve Harvey when they incorrectly named La La Land as the big winner of the night (Moonlight actually took home the honor). Even though it was painfully awkward to watch as the whole cast and crew was already on stage saying their thank yous, the film's producer handled the whole thing graciously as he stopped in the middle of his speech to announce the rightful winner. So, who exactly was the unspoken hero of the night?
His name is Jordan Horowitz (not to be confused with the film's writer Justin Hurwitz), and just like the rest of the production team, his success is starting at a young age. At only 36 years old, the NYC native, who is married to writer Julia Hart, already has a Golden Globe under his belt - and it's not for La La Land. In 2011, he nabbed best picture for a musical or comedy for The Kids Are All Right, starring Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. Even though he didn't win an Oscar this year, he is certainly gaining a lot of praise for how well he handled the incredibly awkward moment. "It was a difficult situation, there's no doubt about that," he told ET afterwards. "But listen, things get thrown at you and you've got to kind of roll with it. And as I said, I was deeply happy to be able to give it to those guys. It really . . . . I don't know. It's shocking, and I'm at a little bit of a loss for words."

Just How Many Black Actors Have Won an Oscar? The Number Is Disturbingly Low
Image Source: Getty / Lee Celano
The Oscars have been plagued by obvious race issues since they began in 1929, and things seemingly came to a head with the #OscarsSoWhite discussion a couple of years ago; the overwhelming lack of diversity in nominees in both 2015 and 2016 resulted in Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs taking bigger, more noticeable steps to double the number of diverse members in its voting body by 2020.
Nevertheless, a black actor (the incomparable Sidney Poitier) wasn't awarded until 1964, and it was only in 2002 that Halle Berry became the first black woman to win a best actress trophy. At this year's ceremony, Mahershala Ali and Viola Davis won for their supporting roles, adding to a pretty short list. So, just how many black actors have won Oscars over the years? Sixteen. A whopping sixteen distinguished, talented people in 89 years. Scroll through to see who they are and learn about the records they've broken.
1940, Hattie McDaniel
The Gone With the Wind star made history when she became the first African-American person to ever win an Oscar. The film's director, David O. Selznick, had to call in a special favor just to have McDaniel allowed into the building (the Ambassador Hotel, where the ceremony was held, did not allow black people), and instead of getting to sit with the rest of the cast and crew, she was escorted to a small table far away and against a wall, which is where she accepted her best supporting actress award.
1964, Sidney Poitier

Thanks to his stellar performance in Lilies of the Field, Poitier became the first black male to win an Oscar in general but also the best actor award.
1983, Louis Gossett Jr.
He is the first black male to win the best supporting actor award for his role in An Officer and a Gentleman.
1990 and 2002, Denzel Washington

Washington took home the best supporting actor trophy for Glory, making him the second black actor to do so. When he won his best actor Oscar for Training Day in 2002, Washington shared a powerful moment of solidarity with Sidney Poitier, who was given a Academy Honorary Award at the ceremony. Washington is the most nominated black actor in Oscars history with seven acting nods since 1987.
1991, Whoopi Goldberg
The comedian won best supporting actress for her role as Oda Mae Brown in Ghost, and the award was presented to her by Denzel Washington. She had been nominated once before for The Color Purple in 1986, making her the first African-American female to earn two acting nominations.
1997, Cuba Gooding Jr.

Yes, before he hit the small screen in The People vs. O.J. Simpson, Gooding won the best supporting actor award for Jerry Maguire. He was only 29 at the time, making him the youngest African-American male actor to win an Academy Award.
2002, Halle Berry
Berry's win for Monster's Ball marked the second time a black woman took home an Oscar and the first time two black actors won in leading role categories in the same year (Denzel Washington also won for Training Day). She gave a heartfelt, emotional speech that is memorable for its earnest homage to the women who came before her. "This moment is so much bigger than me," Berry told the crowd through tears. "This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll. It's for the women that stand beside me, Jada Pinkett, Angela Bassett, Vivica Fox. And it's for every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened."
2005, Jamie Foxx
Foxx swept award season for his outstanding portrayal of Ray Charles in Ray, and his Oscar win added to the pile. He also became the first African-American actor to receive two acting nominations in the same year (he also scored a best supporting actor nod for Collateral).
2005, Morgan Freeman
After nabbing the best supporting actor award for Million Dollar Baby, Freeman became the oldest black actor to win an Oscar at 67 years old.
2007, Forest Whitaker
Whitaker beat out Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith when he won the best actor award for his role in The Last King of Scotland.
2007, Jennifer Hudson
Her performance in Dreamgirls nabbed Hudson a best supporting actress win at just 25 years old, making her the youngest African-American actor to win an Oscar. It also happened to be her first-ever movie role.
2010, Mo'Nique
The comedic actress surprised audiences with her very, very serious role in Precious, for which she won the best supporting actress award.
2012, Octavia Spencer
The actress, who is nominated this year for her role in Hidden Figures, won the best supporting actress award for The Help. The movie is the third to produce nominees for both best supporting and best actress (Viola Davis).
2014, Lupita Nyong'o

For her role as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave, the Kenyan actress became the first black African to be nominated for an acting Oscar and win in any category. It also marked special significance for being Nyong'o's first major movie role.
2017, Mahershala Ali
Two years after #OscarsSoWhite made headlines, Mahershala Ali became the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar thanks to his stellar performance in Moonlight. He is also the eighth black actor to win an Academy Award.
2017, Viola Davis

Viola Davis won the best supporting actress award for Fences, becoming only the seventh black woman to receive the honor. She is also the first black woman to be nominated for three Oscars.

Alton Brown and Bill Nye Are Joining Forces to Make Your Geekiest Dreams Come True
We're beyond excited for the premiere of Bill Nye Saves the World on Netflix and for one reason in particular: Alton Brown makes a guest appearance.
In the trailer for Bill Nye's new show, out April 21, we get a glimpse of fellow science geeks Alton and Bill up to something in a laboratory setting. As they toss their heads back in cackles of laughter, mysterious liquids in hand, we can only imagine what they're concocting. If this episode is anything like a hybrid between Alton's Eat Your Science tour and Bill's classic performances, we're in for a wild ride.
This news comes on the heels of Alton Brown's announcement that Good Eats is returning, kind of. The Food Network host is bringing back a show similar to Good Eats but called something different and available only online. In a tease to his fans, Alton mentioned his relationship with Bill Nye - once calling him his "hero" - admitting, "I'm not the Bill Nye of food. He is way smarter and has more bow ties than I do."

Whether Alton is the Bill Nye of food or not, there's no denying that the reunion between the two is exciting. We're ready for a lesson in nitrogen, crazy chemical reactions, and whatever other educational recipes these two have up their lab-coat sleeves.

This Is the Stupidest Mistake You Can Make at Trader Joe's
It's hard to go wrong at Trader Joe's with so many solid and affordable options, but there is one mistake you could be making without even realizing it. If you're not asking to try products before you buy them, you could end up wasting a lot of money on groceries in the long run. Yep, that's right - Trader Joe's has a "try before you buy" policy! In addition to its generous return policy, the store has a policy that allows customers to try just about anything that they're unsure about buying. This includes snacks, produce, and ready-made foods like salads, sushi, and cheese.
I spoke to an employee at my local store and he confirmed that the only foods not included are raw or frozen foods (that require cooking) and alcohol (of course). This is not to say that you should be the annoying person who asks to try 20 things every time you shop there, but it means you should totally ask an employee to open up any new Trader Joe's products you're eyeing, like dark chocolate mango sorbet bon bons or sweet sriracha bacon jerky. It's not likely that your bill will be superhigh anyway, but this is another way to save money at Trader Joe's, and honestly, it's just another reason to love the store.

3 of the Most Effective Weight Loss Tips, From Real Success Stories
Weight loss is hard. It's not black and white, and it's certainly not cookie-cutter. There are struggles, setbacks, and times you might wonder, "Why did I even start? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?" But with these stories from women who achieved their success in all different ways, we can gain a strong sense of hope.
There's a different approach for everyone, and each woman's winning combination of tools is different. That said, there are a few common themes that we've noticed again and again - ones that you can implement no matter what your body type, habits, or goals. We've interviewed women who have lost between 25 and 225 pounds; their three best tips (collectively) were about movement, mindful eating, and support systems. We'll let them tell you exactly how these things worked in their journeys, and how each contributed to their overall success.
Move More
Though some women really went hard and opted for six or more days of workouts, not everyone needed such a strenuous schedule to lose the weight. It's just about moving more. For Katie who lost over 200 pounds, and Brooke and Hailey who each lost over 100, each of them aimed to reach 10,000 steps per day, tracking with either a Fitbit or a phone app. Setting an attainable goal that equates to just walking a little bit extra is attainable, and can add up over time. In fact, it's one of celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak's best weight loss tips - and these women are living proof that it works.
"I have actually found that exercise replaced food as an excellent way to relieve stress and make me feel in control"
If you're already somewhat active, adding in some more workouts is key. For Kara (who lost 40 pounds), her key was variety. "I am a member at a couple of local fitness studios in our neighborhood that offer Spin, barre, yoga, and circuit classes; therefore on the days we work our legs and booty, I'll take a barre class with a friend. If cardio is on the schedule, I'll take a Spin class. I work out five to six days a week."
The more you move, the more it'll become part of your daily routine. "I love working out, and have actually found that it replaced food as an excellent way to relieve stress and make me feel in control," said Hailey. "On an average week, I work out four to six times and try to keep it as fresh and engaging as possible."
Eat Mindfully
Most of the women we talked to who had accomplished major weight loss attributed their healthier weight to more mindful eating and conscious choices. "Preparing meals at home is one of the most effective ways to manage weight," said Brooke, but she also mentioned that "it has to be easy and enjoyable or it won't happen consistently."
Caitlin, who lost 25 pounds, is also more deliberate with her food, and conscious of how her body feels when she eats. "I try to allow myself to eat out and trust myself to choose options that I know will allow me to feel good afterwards, and to stop when I'm full. I try to just check in with myself like, 'Do you really want that?'" Kara had similar sentiments. She told POPSUGAR that she focuses on healthier choices, but still loves food, so she monitors how her choices make her feel physically. "If I do indulge in a heavy, unhealthy meal, my body now reacts poorly as it's become so accustomed to clean ingredients; therefore I find myself struggling to gather energy or I'll feel just plain sick, so I've really stopped eating anything I know is going to make me feel sluggish."
"It's all about knowing what is good or bad for your body, being aware of what you're consuming, said Kat, who lost 40 pounds. "As long as it's healthy calories, the weight will come off." Speaking of healthy calories, part of deliberate and mindful eating includes being educated and learning as much as you can about your food. Taylor, a woman who lost about 25 pounds, used that education as an advantage in her weight loss journey. "I am aware of more calorie-dense options like the healthy fats in almond butter, coconut oil, and avocado, and I am mindful to keep those in moderation."
Find Motivation in Community
For Becca, it was Weight Watchers that helped with her 100 pound weight loss. She used the community and the app as a way to stay on track. "You can see amazing before and after pictures, recipes, and tips," she said. "It really helps to keep me motivated."
Brooke found strength in the BBG community, saying "It's empowering to be vulnerable about our flaws, share our goals, and cheer each other on." She noted that before finding the other women through BBG, that she "carried around a tremendous amount of shame" about her weight. "It was liberating to let go of that and realize that I wasn't alone."
"It was liberating to let go of that shame and realize that I wasn't alone."
Ensuring that you have that support and don't feel isolated is paramount to the success you'll see on your own journey. Kara told us that her "accountability partner," is the person who keeps her in check, and keeps her going to "a 6 a.m. Spin or circuit class one to two times a week." Whether it's a best friend, significant other, coworker, parent, or family member, you need to find someone who can hold you accountable and help you get through any and all setbacks.
For both Caitlin and Cait (who has yet another amazing weight loss success story), that support came from Tone It Up. Upon finding the community on Instagram, Cait said "It was the first time I realized maybe I can do this, and it doesn't have to be torture. These girls were just like me." That identity and support helped Cait reach her goals. "I started forming new habits, pushing myself to new heights, trying new workouts, sometimes failing, sometimes shining, but always being supported through my ups and downs. I loved supporting others and loved seeing the girls cheer me on!"
Caitlin said that "the TIU community was a total support system for me and still is," noting that it extended well beyond her weight loss. "The women in the community are incredible and will support, encourage, and listen as you go through whatever journey you're on. These women share through pregnancies, losses, marriages . . . it's not just weight, but the emotional factors that usually are the drivers of our bad habits. I went to the Tone It Up retreat 2015 where I got to meet a bunch of the women I felt I already knew from following them on Instagram, and I am so happy I can now call them my friends."
