What Moms Are Actually Entitled to When Flying With Breast Milk or Formula
Traveling with a child is never easy, but flying without your baby when they are still nursing presents an entirely separate set of difficulties.
A breastfeeding mom painstakingly pumps and stores her milk in order to ensure that her baby can continue to drink breast milk - and so she can maintain her supply - when they are apart. Although there are regulations for nursing moms to fly with pumped milk, many airports haven't been following these rules simply because TSA workers aren't aware. They are, instead, forcing moms to throw out their hard-earned milk.
Currently there are laws protecting a breastfeeding mom's right to transport breast milk as well as any necessary equipment on an airplane. According to the Transportation Security Administration, "Formula, breast milk, and juice in quantities greater than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters are allowed in carry-on baggage and do not need to fit within a quart-sized bag . . . You do not need to travel with your child to bring breast milk."
Although this exemption is in place to protect parents, there are still issues with compliance. "There have been too many instances reported by parents that TSA officials either didn't know or simply refused to follow these exemptions," Republican House Representative Jaime Herrera-Beutler said on the House floor.
Since so many moms have experienced difficulties transporting breast milk - even as they follow the set rules - the House's new law the Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening Act was enacted to help rectify the problem by requiring that TSA employees receive proper training in order to uphold these breast milk regulations.
"Parents who are trying to follow these rules are consistently singled out for harassment-like scrutiny by the TSA," Herrera-Beutler said. "This has led to breast milk being forcibly tossed out, equipment being broken, and flights missed."
Yet there are still cases of breastfeeding moms being harassed or having to stand their grounds to those who are unclear about their right to fly with breast milk. For those who are going to be traveling, this is what you are legally entitled to, even if you're told otherwise, according to the TSA:
- Formula, breast milk, and juice for little ones are permitted through the security checkpoint.
- Inform the TSA officer at the beginning of the screening process that you have more than 3.4 ounces of formula, breast milk, or juice in your carry-on bag.
- You must remove the liquid from your carry-on bag and have it screened separately from the rest of your items.
- Officers may need to test liquids. They might ask you to open the container and have you transfer "a small quantity" of the liquid to a separate container or dispose of it. However, you can tell the TSA officer if you don't want it to be X-rayed or opened, and they have additional steps that they can take to clear the liquid.
- Accessories required to chill formula or breast milk, including ice packs, freezer packs, and frozen gel packs, are allowed in carry-on. If they start to melt and are only partially frozen, they are subject to the same screening as the breast milk or formula.
Texas Could Enact One of the Harshest Immigration Laws in the Country
Texas is about to join Arizona on the list of states with sweeping anti-immigrant laws. On April 30, Texas's House of Representatives approved Senate Bill 4, which had already passed through the Senate. Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican anti-immigrant stalwart, is expected to sign the bill following a committee hearing.
Senate Bill 4 (SB4) echoes the tenants of Arizona's notorious "Show Me Your Papers" legislation that passed in 2010 but was later amended and stripped of its strength. Texas's proposed law would allow police officer to question the immigration status of anyone detained with "reasonable suspicion" of breaking any law. What's dangerous about this is it affords police the power to potentially incriminate detainees as opposed to arrestees.
In addition to emboldening police to detain civilians who might be undocumented immigrants, the bill also prohibits cities in the state from passing bills that would curtail SB4's provisions. Police would be required to comply with federal requests to detain suspected undocumented immigrants, making officers pseudo immigration agents. At its core, SB4 targets "sanctuary city" and preys upon people whose only crime is existing as an immigrant. Even if an undocumented immigrant has not broken a law, SB4 permits police with the power to question anyone's immigration status.
Critics and demonstrators have appealed to the governor since the SB4 passed through the Senate in February. One state lawmaker, Victoria Neave, protested the bill's House vote with a four-day fast. Other activists challenged Governor Abbott at his office in Austin on May 1: after the building closed 24 activists (including one Austin City Council Member) were arrested according to the Texas Tribune.
It seems unlikely that Abbott will veto SB4 given his past statements about defunding sanctuary cities. Abbott went after Travis County police department when the sheriff, Sally Hernandez, announced that her county's jail would not detain immigrants for federal authorities. Abbott sent the county, which encompasses most of Austin, TX, a letter demanding it reverse the policy or face defunding.
We’re Calling It Now: Paige McCullers Is A.D. on Pretty Little Liars
Avid Pretty Little Liars fans know that watching the past seven seasons, and now season 7B, has been like being in a relationship. There have been plenty of emotional roller coasters along the way, and just when you think it's over, it keeps you coming back for more. When the Liars got a text from A during the season six finale, it was signed with a new name, A.D., also referred to as "Uber A" throughout the rest of the series. There are plenty of theories on what those initials stand for, but what's even more important is who those initials are attached to - and we have an idea.
Let's start with the basics. We were first introduced to Paige McCullers, played by Lindsey Shaw, in season one, episode 15, when she sets out to become Rosewood High School's swim team captain. Emily Fields, played by Shay Mitchell, had been absent for a brief time, and when she came back, it seemed like the two would remain enemies. But then, Paige comes out as a lesbian and reveals she has feelings for Emily. Long story short, they end up dating, then breaking up, then dating again, and then breaking up . . . again. To say that these two have had their ups and downs is a serious understatement. Through it all, we couldn't help but to be suspicious of Paige and her real intentions in the Liars' lives, but it goes beyond that - we think that she's A.D. Hear us out!
Paige Randomly Returns to Rosewood 5 Years Later
Paige comes back to PLL on season seven after leaving Rosewood in season five. Emily asks Paige why she returns to interview for the swim team coach spot at Rosewood High, even though with her talent she could have gotten a job at a D-1 college. Paige kind of blows off the question and just says that she's put some applications in but saw that this opportunity came up. In this same episode, Alison DiLaurentis goes to get Noel Kahn's file from the principal's office, only to find it missing with the message, "I warned you b*tches. Do you really want to end up dead?" Although not signed, we can assume it is from A.D. Paige is in Rosewood High for the swim coach interview that day, giving her ample opportunity to grab the file. For Paige to come back after all this time and have a pretty strong presence on the show, something is up.
Paige's New Job Title Literally Spells Out A.D.
Emily ends up snagging the swim coach role at Rosewood High, but Paige isn't left in the dust. She is given the position of Athletic Department Supervisor - aka A.D. Supervisor! When Emily tells Alison about the job, Alison (who is a teacher at Rosewood High) says that it's a new role and asks if it was created especially for Paige. Hmm . . . suspicious.
A.D. Has a Soft Spot For Emily
When Emily oversleeps and misses her Intro to Kinesiology opt-out exam during season seven, A.D. texts Emily saying he or she hacked the computer system and gave her a 92 percent grade but not without saying, "Thank me later, ungrateful b*tch. A.D." Although accompanied by a snarky comment (in true Uber A form), this shows that whoever is behind the madness cares about Emily.
We Catch a Glimpse of A.D.'s Hair
At the end of the season 7B premiere, A.D. hands Jenna Marshall a Braille book. Upon reading it, Jenna says, "endgame." But what you might have missed is that when A.D. hands her the book, the ends of his or her hair - short and brown, like Paige's - are shown at the top of the screen. Could such an obvious hint really have slipped through the editing cracks, or was it purposely placed there? Either way, it got us thinking.

Could it be that the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) blew the whole surprise ending to PLL? Believe it. Fans started drawing attention to the (mistake?) listing around the time of the Season 7B premiere in April. A.D. was listed right next to Paige McCullers's name. The movie page no longer says it, but the screenshots don't lie.
As of season 7B, episode 12, Emily and Paige have been working well together at Rosewood High. Sure, there's some tension, since Paige doesn't like Alison and Emily remains close with her, but Emily and Paige still seem to care a lot about each other! For all we know, the two will be together when the finale airs. But if not, just know that we called it - we're so onto you, Paige.
Why Everyone Is Getting Riled Up Over the Ban of Fidget Spinners in Schools
Although fidget spinners were once believed to be a much-needed solution to a common classroom problem, they're now being blamed for causing more issues than they solve.
These gadgets are intended to help kids focus in class as an outlet for restless energy, but as they've become the hot new school trend, this "fidget toy" has morphed into the main distraction for some teachers. In order to combat this new widespread craze, some schools have made the decision to ban the fidget spinner from classrooms after complaints from teachers that the whirling toy is interrupting learning.
"As the teacher, I am thoroughly distracted by your child's trendy toy," Christina Bolusi Zawacki wrote in her essay "I'm a Teacher, and Trust Me When I Say That Fidget Spinners Are the Effing Worst." "It makes it difficult for me to focus and do my job, and I worry about the students in the room who are completely thrown off-track because it's all they see. These are not the helpful devices they were intended to be. Instead, they've become the Millennial/Gen Z/Linkster version of Pokémon cards, POGs or Tamagotchis. Now I understand why MY teachers hated those obnoxious things with the same red-hot rage I feel for fidget spinners."
After the toys became an "overnight sensation" at Washington Elementary School, principal Kate Ellison explained to The Chicago Tribune that the administration had to ban them due to the increase in classroom distractions. "Frankly, we've found the fidgets were having the opposite effect of what they advertise," Ellison said. "Kids are trading them or spinning them instead of writing."
Another school got behind the ban after kids started throwing them at each other. "They are small in size, but can seriously hurt someone," Carroll Gardens School For Innovation wrote on its website. "In an effort to prevent injuries, we must officially ban these fidget spinners from being brought into our school."
However, as some teachers praise this decision for the sake of their sanity, enraged parents are speaking out. Some students still use this sensory toy for its intended purpose - as a therapy tool found helpful to children with ADD, autism, or anxiety - and they don't want the fad to overshadow that.
"Our middle school just banned them, and my son has been using them as part of his 504 plan," Ro Marks told Today. "I have already written the school about this, because although he could still be allowed to use it legally as part of his 504 plan, he doesn't want to because it will now draw unwanted attention towards him by his peers. Solving an annoyance problem of this viral craze by making a blanket ban actually does more harm than good and creates a more serious issue. Plus, kids who don't need them as therapy toys will likely lose interest in them in about two weeks. Problem solved."

Time to pack your bags, Harry Potter fans! Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is heading to NYC. The two-part play, which first opened at London's Palace Theatre in July 2016, is set to make its Broadway premiere on April 22, 2018, at the Lyric Theatre. The news is even more exciting seeing that J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel, which is coincidentally set in the Big Apple, will premiere later that year. While it's unclear whether or not the play's original cast will reprise their roles, the Ambassador Theatre Group revealed that the iconic theater, which is the second largest house on Broadway, will include major renovations to meet the specifications of the show. Tickets for the show will go on sale this Fall.
This See-Through Glass Slide Lets You See LA From the Tallest Skyscraper in California
If you're ever in Los Angeles (or even California), you've got to check out OUE Skyspace LA, where millennials, couples, and families are flocking to for fun. Located at the 70th floor of the iconic US Bank Tower, Skyspace features a Skyslide and two open-air observation decks overseeing the San Gabriel Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, and the city. I visited the must-see attraction, and as a LA-native, I can definitely say that the views there are unbeatable.
The fairly new attraction opened in June 2016, and it's quickly become a popular spot. Each of the top three floors of Skyspace offer unobstructed 360-degree views of the city, making it a romantic date-night spot and an overall stunning experience. You can even can ride the glass slide down to one of the terraces below, which was especially a favorite among families.
Admission is $25 for adults, which allows access to all four levels of Skyspace, including the two outdoor terraces. Or for $33, you can enjoy everything general admission has to offer plus a ride down the Skyslide. I suggest doing it all with this Skyslide Combo since you're already there. Though a little pricey, you won't be able to experience this elsewhere and it's definitely one to cross off your bucket list.

Here's What the $460 Million Updates to Buckingham Palace Will Include
When you live in a home as enormous and lavish as Buckingham Palace, you can expect to have a home-repair bill to match. In April 2017, Queen Elizabeth will embark on a decade-long renovation to her London residence – which anyone who watches The Crown knows is absolutely grand inside. The project has been budgeted for a whopping $460 million dollars. Perhaps even more surprising than the cost is what the renovations will entail.
Instead of refurbishing the palace with a new interior design scheme, including things like drapes, furniture, or carpets, the money is going to replacing the palace's dangerously dated infrastructure, including 60-year-old pipes and cables, 2,500 radiators, 36,000-square-yards of floor boards, 500 pieces of sanitaryware (aka toilets), and 5,000 lighting fixtures.
Not so glamorous, but very necessary according to the UK Treasury, which issued a statement saying, "The project seeks to prevent a serious risk of fire, flood and damage to both the building and the priceless Royal Collection of art belonging to the nation." The updates are designed to extend the life of the property by another 50 years.
Government grants, which come from taxpayer money, will need to be about doubled for the next 10 years in order to pay for the renovations. Tony Johnstone-Burt, master of the queen's household, said in a statement, "We take the responsibility that comes with receiving these public funds extremely seriously indeed; equally, we are convinced that by making this investment in Buckingham Palace now we can avert a much more costly and potentially catastrophic building failure in the years to come. We are also confident that our chosen option – the 10 Year Phased Refit – offers the best value for money whilst allowing the Palace to remain fully operational and occupied."
The queen is expected to continue living in the palace throughout the renovations.

Bombay Sapphire Gin Is Being Recalled For Having Double the Alcohol Content
Bombay Sapphire gin bottles are being recalled in Canada, and the reason has many people running to liquor stores to stock up! The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (also known as the Party Police) discovered that some bottles of Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin contained almost double the alcohol content that is listed on the bottle. According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the batch of bottles affected were bottled before being diluted to the proper 40 percent alcohol content by volume and, instead, came out with 77 percent.
The bottles have a product code of "L16304" and have since been removed from stores. Bacardi, the distributor of Bombay gin products, has asked customers with these bottles to return them as soon as possible.
If you picked up a 1.14-liter bottle of Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin recently, you should definitely check the label, but we'll let you decide what to do next.

13 Reasons Why: The Cast Is Talking Like Season 2 Is Coming
We're on the edge of our seats waiting for Netflix to tell us if season two of 13 Reasons Why is confirmed, but nothing official has been announced. It usually takes the streaming service a few weeks after a premiere to renew a series, but 13 Reasons Why is somewhat of a special case. The show is based on a book by Jay Asher and was conceived as a miniseries. If Netflix locks down a second season, they would be going far beyond what was in the book. Of course, the writers already expanded on a number of characters (Hannah's parents aren't even in the book) and the season ends with several cliffhangers, so it kind of feels like they're already setting up season two. Until we know for sure, let's take our cues from what the cast and production team have said about the possibility of continuing the story.
- Producer Selena Gomez is being coy, but her comments sound hopeful. "I would get in trouble for saying something, but I hope so," she told Entertainment Tonight at the premiere. "I hope people enjoy the first season." Bombay Sapphire Gin Is Being Recalled For Having Double the Alcohol Content
Bombay Sapphire gin bottles are being recalled in Canada, and the reason has many people running to liquor stores to stock up! The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (also known as the Party Police) discovered that some bottles of Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin contained almost double the alcohol content that is listed on the bottle. According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the batch of bottles affected were bottled before being diluted to the proper 40 percent alcohol content by volume and, instead, came out with 77 percent.
The bottles have a product code of "L16304" and have since been removed from stores. Bacardi, the distributor of Bombay gin products, has asked customers with these bottles to return them as soon as possible.

We're on the edge of our seats waiting for Netflix to tell us if season two of 13 Reasons Why is confirmed, but nothing official has been announced. It usually takes the streaming service a few weeks after a premiere to renew a series, but 13 Reasons Why is somewhat of a special case. The show is based on a book by Jay Asher and was conceived as a miniseries. If Netflix locks down a second season, they would be going far beyond what was in the book. Trump's Army Secretary Nominee Once Compared Evolution to an Old Lawnmower
If Pope Francis, leader of 1.2 billion Roman Catholics, can defend evolution, it might be time for so-called "creationists" to reevaluate their arguments against it as well. However, President Donald Trump's nominee for army secretary, Dr. Mark Green, has continued to deny evolution, despite widely accepted scientific claims indicating otherwise.
In a speech given in 2015, Dr. Green attempted to discredit evolution by comparing it to a lawnmower (a man-made machine). First, Green criticized evolutionists' theories as lazy explanations for complexities outside of their imagination. "The evolutionists have their bad argument, too. They say, 'Well, I can't explain how it went from this to incredibly complex, so it must have been billions of years,'" Green said to a Cincinnati church congregation. "That's kind of where they put their faith. The truth of the matter is is the second law of thermo fluid dynamics says that the world progresses from order to disorder not disorder to order."
Green then tried dispute evolution with an illogical metaphor. "If you put a lawnmower out in your yard and a hundred years come back, it's rusted and falling apart," Green claimed. "You can't put parts out there and a hundred years later it's gonna come back together. That is a violation of a law of thermodynamics. A physical law that exists in the universe."
Green is, of course, right, that you cannot use a century-old lawnmower. But his rationale implies that humans and machines are equivalent in development, which is simply not the case.
This nowhere near the first time Dr. Green has been criticized for his controversial opinions. Green drew the ire of LGTBQ activists when he suggested being transgender was a medical condition on Sept. 14, 2016. "If you poll the psychiatrists, they're going to tell you that transgender is a disease," Green said.
Some Republican leaders have expressed doubts about Green's nomination as well. On May 2, Arizona Senator John McCain told USA Today that Green's past comments about the LGBTQ community are troubling. "There's a lot of controversy concerning his nomination," McCain said. "We are getting some questions from both Republicans and Democrats on the Armed Services Committee. I think there are some issues that clearly need to be cleared up."
USA Today noted that McCain chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, which is responsible for approving Green's confirmation. It appears that Green's hearing might not happen anytime soon since his nomination has yet to be formally submitted.

This high school senior is more than looking forward to this special event - she bought her gown, secured her date, and completed her hair and makeup trials. However, the one thing her school won't allow her to do is a buy a ticket to the big night.
Ashley is in a wheelchair, and due to her health challenges, the Tennessee teen is now enrolled in her school's homebound program. Although she no longer attends classes with her friends, she still sees them at various events and anticipated attending Cheatham County Central High School's prom with them.
Unfortunately, when the high school senior went to purchase her tickets, she learned that because she is part of the school district's program for students who are too sick or injured to attend school, she is not allowed to attend the dance. "I went to go buy the tickets and they told me it was illegal," Ashley told WFSB.
Cheatham County Schools responded with a statement to Channel 4 explaining that Ashley was aware of this policy before enrolling in the program. They claim that she was told at the start of their year that "the student placed on homebound should not return to his/her school, or any other Cheatham County School for any reason, including extracurricular activities (i.e. ballgames/sporting events, proms, banquets, dances, etc.)."
Although the reasoning behind these guidelines is that if a doctor has advised that Ashley is too sick to attend school, then she isn't healthy enough to be at these events, Ashley just wanted a night to feel like every other high school girl. "I would love to experience what all girls dream of - the dresses, the hair," Ashley told Fox17. "What most people don't understand is that I'm not on this by choice."

Hill, who became known to nation in 1991 for alleging and testifying in the Senate Judiciary Committee that Clarence Thomas sexually harassed her, touched upon her life and legacy. During the audience-question portion of the event, one guest asked, "Has [former] Vice President Joe Biden ever apologized to you for the disrespectful way he treated you when he testified? If not, how do you feel about that and how did you feel watching him take on campus sexual assault as an issue?" Hill responded, "No, he has not apologized, but my feeling is the statue of limitations for his apology has run."
For Hill, it's not an apology for his behavior that she wants anymore. She said she'd rather have him explain why, as then-senator and chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he failed to call three other witnesses during Thomas's confirmation hearings - witnesses who also alleged Thomas harassed them. "My real concern was the failure to call for three witnesses, because again, that was not just disrespectful to me but an erasure of those women's experiences and validity," said Hill. "It just said again, 'These women don't matter and we will just ignore them.'"
She believes that after all this time, and Biden's recent involvement with campus sexual assault, he owes the world some reasoning. "You at least owe us an explanation," she said. ". . . An explanation and an owning of it is something that's different from an apology, and that's really what I'd be more interested in."

Breastfeeding Mom Seeks Privacy in a Department Store Bathroom and Still Gets Kicked Out
Nearly every public breastfeeding controversy is the same: a woman nurses her baby in a department store, in a restaurant, or on a park bench, and a concerned citizen asks that she "do that in a bathroom." Annoying, right?
One mom – in an attempt to privately feed her child without drawing attention or making headlines – sought out a public restroom and was even kicked out of there.
"She was crying, she was ready to have her meal, so I went to the restroom and found an open chair," Ana Davis told Utah's WTOL 11 News about her trip to Nordstrom Rack with her daughter Mia.
Within minutes, she was approached by an employee who said a complaint had been made.
"Someone was feeling uncomfortable to do their business while there was a nursing mother in the restroom," she continued, adding that she was asked to go to a fitting room instead. "I didn't feel like I was doing anything wrong by nursing."
In a statement, Nordstrom said it wants "every customer to feel comfortable while they're shopping with us, particularly nursing mothers." The store said fitting rooms are available but not necessary and that employees now know that mom are able to breastfeed wherever they feel comfortable. Even if that is a public restroom.
Hannah Is "Very Much at the Center" of 13 Reasons Why Season 2
Now that Netflix is negotiating a second season of 13 Reasons Why, we need to know everything about it. We have some theories for what it could be about, but who will be in it? We're campaigning for executive producer Selena Gomez to appear, but we'll also need to catch up with some existing characters. One of our biggest questions, though, is about Hannah. Will she be involved, given that the entire first season revolves around her suicide? According to the show's creator, Brian Yorkey, Hannah will definitely be a part of season two.
"One of the things that is a fundamental element of our show is the weaving of past and the present," Yorkey told The Hollywood Reporter. "Hannah's story is still very much not finished. She's an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she's very much still at the center of it."
OK, so we can gather two very important things from this:
- At least part of season two will take place in the past.
- We will see more of Hannah's story.
Does this mean there's more to Hannah's story than what we see in the first season? Just kidding, this isn't Fidgeters Anonymous, but if it were, consider this my public service announcement. Every fidgeter has the same story - for some, it's the call from teachers saying your child has "ants in his pants," and for others it's the incessant and unstoppable leg shaking, but no matter what the issue is, the question remains the same: HOW THE HELL CAN I STOP?!
Fidgeting is an issue that people of all ages deal with, and it can be incredibly distracting for those around the fidgeter. Imagine a child trying to read out loud in class, but they keep losing their place because the child sitting nearby cannot stop shaking their leg. It's distracting, it's irrepressible, and, worst of all, the fidgeter often doesn't even realize they're doing it.
But you know what they say, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. For me, it wasn't ants in my pants or leg shaking (and if we're being honest here, the latter pains me to watch). It wasn't even nail biting or pencil tapping. It was constant hair twirling . . . and, don't get me started on a split end. Gross, I know.
Although fidgeting, and more specifically hyperactivity, could be a sign of ADHD, it can also be caused by stress, boredom, anxiety, and of course, caffeine. It's more common than you would presume, and there are tons of different tactics that professionals suggest for conquering fidgeting. But at 25 years old, I finally found the cure. The be-all and end-all to my hair-twirling woes. Now if only I had this during high school.

I'm talking about a fidget toy that is much less complicated yet just as effective. Meet Noah, the stainless steel fidget toy that I can't go a day without playing with. My 22-year-old brother introduced me to the toy after his therapist suggested the tactic to conquer his own fidgeting issues - family goals, right?
