Tear Gas Grenades Didn't Stop This Venezuelan Protestor From Playing the National Anthem

Protests against the left-wing, teetering-on-a-dictatorship government have continued to rock Venezuela. The crisis, which began roughly three years ago, has descended into chaos. In recent weeks, antigovernment activists have encountered a violent response from the military; since demonstrations reignited in the last month, 37 people have been killed. Yet amid the upheaval, an ardent love of country persists among the protesters, and a haunting video of a young man playing the national anthem - while tear gas grenades detonate around him - exemplifies their passion.

The powerful moment was captured by local journalist Iván Ernesto Reyes and shared on Twitter. The young man's face is unidentifiable and covered, but his youth is apparent. The video is especially poignant given the death of another violinist protesting at the end of April.

Reyes spoke to CNN about the video and explained how it came about. "There he was, standing, playing the Venezuelan anthem, and with a couple of kids that were around him, sort of protecting him," Reyes told CNN. "There were bombs, tear gas, and repression, but he kept playing his violin. He did not stop."

In the Twitter post describing the violinist's song, Reyes termed the event as magical realism. "Today I witnessed a true example of magical realism. A protester played his violin while the (national guards) threw tear gas and pellets," Reyes said.

Things I Learned at Chrissy Teigen's Palette Launch - and No, She Didn't Get "Extensive Plastic Surgery"

Here's the deal: I got to meet my Twitter queen Chrissy Teigen and help her celebrate the launch of the Becca Cosmetics Becca x Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette ($46) by getting an early preview and learning about how it all came to fruition. I also learned a few things she absolutely hates when it comes to makeup, because if there's one thing you can bet on from Chrissy, it's that she'll speak her mind.

Chrissy collaborated with makeup artist Mary Phillips (who also works with Jennifer Lopez!) on every part of the palette. She was clear on a few things - namely, she didn't want the whole thing to be too sparkly or overly shimmery. She wanted it to be easy for everyone to use at home, and she worried that with too much shimmer, people might go crazy and end up looking like a disco ball. The palette, which includes a bronzer, a blush, and two highlighters (one rose gold and one apricot), worried her a bit because she felt the blush was too bright. Because the palette leans more bronze, she and Mary worked to sheer out the pigment of the coral blush so it was complementary to the other pieces of the palette.

The palette focuses on warmer tones instead of cool tones, which makes sense: Chrissy has a warm complexion. Mary explained that it isn't too gold, though, and it's definitely not cool or silver, meaning if you're fair complected or have a deeper tone, it will still work for you. You can sheer out everything if you're fair and layer it if you're deep complected.

As for her dislikes, Chrissy was quick to lay down the law on a few trending makeup and beauty looks.

Liner on her lower waterline

The model and author explained that she lets Mary do whatever she wants when it comes to makeup, but the one stipulation is she cannot add anything insider her lower waterline.

Lip masks

"Waste of f*cking money," she said. "Don't get them."

Washing her face before bed

The model told us that she has "never washed her face before bed." She'll "rip off her eyelashes" but doesn't remove her makeup. And yet her skin is still perfect, which could be attributed to her esthetician, Shani Darden. We can only dream of this type of luck.

Insane Instagram highlighting

"I don't want to be a hater, but I am," she said. "I see all the Instagram posts, and I did not want to look like those girls that just look silver. Do you don't have to be a slay queen just because you look like a silver zorbot. That look is done. I'm tired of silver cheekbones and nose. And I'm f*cking over strobing!" Chrissy later added she has no idea what a zorbot is, but you get her drift.

Armpit fat

She probably doesn't hate it, per se, but when asked about the craziest beauty treatment she received, she admitted that she "sucked her armpits" about nine years ago to get rid of fat pockets.

Also, it's been reported that Chrissy underwent "major plastic surgery," and it's simply not true. The statement was largely taken out of context.

This is what happened: Chrissy brought up that everyone thinks her cheeks are fake. She clarified that they are not, but joked that "everything else is." She did point to her forehead and her mouth area, which I interpreted as referring to getting Botox in her forehead and her veneers. This is something she's been very open about in the past. There was no discussion of extensive plastic face or body surgery. In fact, the only plastic surgery brought up was the aforementioned armpit liposuction - and playfully mentioning her mother's nose job.

Now that that's cleared up, I have to say I haven't been happier with a palette in a very long time. I want to look dewy and glowy when I apply highlighter, and even with some Becca products, I feel like the highlight isn't as sheer or natural as I'd like it to be. This is a palette you can wear to work, running errands, brunch, a big event, breastfeeding your child - doesn't matter what it is, you can wear it and feel natural while doing so.

My Polar Opposite Became My Husband - and I'm SO Glad

I scroll through my Instagram over 10 times a day, constantly Snapchat stories and catch Pokémon, all in a days work, and my partner hasn't changed his Facebook profile picture in over a year. My ideal dinner consists of sashimi and his, porterhouse. While I obsess about how good One Direction is, he jams out to Iron Maiden or Pantera. I spend my free time wandering and exploring and he has a special relationship with our couch. He loves comedies, and the majority of my shows contain suspense and plenty of drama. He has a love affair with the movie theater, and I live for my frequent flier mileage program. This is my life, but it works for me.

Think about your best friends for a moment and all the common interests you share with them. I didn't marry my best friend, nor do I wish I had. Don't get me wrong, I love my best friend, but there is something entirely separate about a friendship and romantic relationship and the affect of being opposites and carbon copies of one another. I believe there is a common misconception that partners must share a majority of similarities in order to be successful. If anyone knows this isn't true, it's me. I could make you a Christmas length list of all the things I don't share in common with my husband; and that list continues to grow. And you know what, we're happier because of it. As much as I love myself, I couldn't date someone just like me.

Dating or being married to your polar opposite is no easy feat, but I must say having my polar opposite turn from boyfriend and eventually into husband has taught me plenty of life lessons (cough, cough - lots of compromise!) along the way. We are completely unalike and entirely in love. Here are six reasons having an opposite partner rocks.

1. You will know you do not have a surface-level relationship.

When my husband and I only had one TV in our apartment, we were forced to watch the same thing, and most of the time it was subtitled Kung Fu films or WWII documentaries, while all I wanted to do was watch Girls. I am not going to lie, he knows some really kickass Netflix, HBO, and Showtime series and is Dark Zone level 50 (if you don't know what that is, bless your heart), but we don't share any of those interests together as a couple. Not to say we haven't tried, but it just doesn't work, but that does not mean our love does not work for us. When it comes time to order Seamless, my cursor hovers over the Japanese restaurant and his over the last burrito he ordered. As frustrating and annoying as it is, we have cultivated such curiosity and respect for one another over time due to our differences. To this point, we have inadvertently introduced each other to new bands, podcasts, restaurants, thought processes, experiences, and Netflix series (whether we like it or not!), and we are able to share in this growth together. Let's be honest, enjoying sushi together while watching Silicon Valley can only last so long . . .

2. Type A and Type B motivate one another.

Like a battery, not the blood types. If you put the two plus sides together, the battery does not function, similar to a relationship. Me, I am classic Type A; I constantly stress over everything, no detail is too small. My husband is routine driven, likes to know what to expect at all times, and nothing ever bothers him. I constantly think 15 moves into the future and am always bugging him about plans in our calendar two months out or our long-term goals. Meanwhile, he hasn't even figured out what he is having for dinner. But if we both didn't know what was for dinner or what we we're going to be doing down the road, we would be the definition of hot messes. The best part of it all? We motivate each other without even knowing it. He doesn't even have to try to calm me down, he is naturally calm and therefore by osmosis, I begin to be too.

3. It will challenge you.

"If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything" (Alexander Hamilton) my husband's favorite quote and the bane of my existence. I swear he was born a lawyer, constantly arguing his point, his side, and his opinion. Naturally, partners are bound to disagree and stomp away furiously thinking, "If this person were more similar to me, they would just see my side and we wouldn't even be having this fight"? But through the argument, it will cause you to think about points you have never even thought of before or better yet, reconfirm and strengthen your own views. My husband and I don't see eye to eye on politics, composting, recycling, supernatural forces, you name it, we don't agree. But we have our reasons, so allow yourself to be swayed or stick by your long-standing thoughts. What about if you are a start-up queen and your partner is a corporate powerhouse? You may not live and breathe the day-to-day actions as your partner, but you will gain an understanding of a life completely separate of your own and possibly freshen and challenge your own ways of thinking, personally and professionally.

In the end, you may end up agreeing to disagree but at least it becomes yet another chance to learn about your partner . . . and yourself.

4. You will have your own in-house therapist.

You already know how you intend to solve a problem; you have been doing it for 30-something years on your own, why stop now? But it's always nice to have another point of view, that person to offer a different version that you have never thought of. Sometimes we are so stuck inside our own heads that our partners are the best soundboard for those situations in which you can't see outside of your general mind frame.

5. Personal growth.

No one stays the same over time; we will always continue to grow, in our relationships and beyond. When your partner is opposite you, it's highly likely they possess traits and qualities that you admire in which you end up adapting into your own life. Personally I live with the YOLO travel mentality and my husband never understood why I had such a strong drive to want to see every inch of the world. After six years of my constant rationalization of our world travels, I think he finally understands it and has adapted my philosophy to his personal life. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, even better when it's your partner!

6. You will (rarely) ever get bored.

Nobody wants to be bored and let's be honest, relationships can get stale quick. Not saying you will like everything your partner picks, but you won't be bored on the ride! If date night were up to me, we would be having cocktails on the roof of a hot spot and not eating at a hole in the wall German restaurant where there are games like shuffleboard and buck hunter, which is his haven. If I weren't married to him, I would likely never know about certain places or experience certain moments because of my own lifestyle choices. Embracing spontaneity and getting out of your comfort zone makes for great relationships!

So if you are dating your opposite, embrace all the wonderful things you are inadvertently learning rather than focusing on the arguments and frustrations. I may not know exactly why opposites attract initially, but there is no doubt that married or dating opposites have incredibly fulfilling relationships. At the end of the day, a successful relationship is about learning to love what makes you different and lets be honest, you can join a crew to hunt Pokémon, no need to share that with your partner.

This School Just "Canceled" Mother's Day - and People Are Pissed

In an attempt to be more inclusive, one school's bold new policy has ended up sparking outrage among some parents. Albert McMahon Elementary School in Mission, British Columbia, announced that first and second grade students won't be making crafts for Mother's or Father's Day this year.

The school sent students home with a letter explaining that they aren't celebrating the holidays this year in an effort to keep children from different families from feeling left out. "In an effort to celebrate diversity, inclusivity, and also nurture our students who are part of non-traditional families, we have decided to encourage those celebrations to take place at home," the note read. "Due to this, the children will not be making gifts at school to give on Mother's Day and Father's Day. We feel each family knows that best way to celebrate with their own family."

According to Mission Public School District Superintendendent Angus, Wilson, the school came to this decision not as a political statement, but after much thought after a recent event. "The reasoning wasn't some cabal or some political plan," Wilson told King 5. "Instead, there has been a recent trauma involving a student and its [sic] parents."

Although the new policy was enacted to reflect the diversity of their students' households, some parents are not pleased that neither moms nor dads will be celebrated in school. "I think disappointed is an understatement," Roy Glebe posted on Facebook along with a photo of the school's letter. "I don't understand why we, as Canadians, need to give up our traditions that have been passed through generations. I welcome all races and ethnicities, but forcing us to give up things that are important to us as Canadians is crap. And it doesn't even have anything to do with religion? You can't celebrate your Mom and Dad?"

Do you think this school should be applauded for protecting students or is it going too far in an attempt to keep kids from feeling left out?

The Dos and Don'ts For Entry-Level Job Seekers

Landing your first entry-level job after college is no small feat: it can take plenty of time, discipline, and confidence to get your foot in the door. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed and in need of direction or you feel confident in your search, it's always good to hear pointers from people who have been in the same position you're in now. We took a look at a Quora thread that shed light on important things to do and not to do during this transitional period in your life.

1. Do your research.

Landing an interview during your grueling job search is an amazing feeling - but the work doesn't stop there. Well before your interview, you should start preparing as many notes as possible about the company and the interviewer you'll be meeting. "In order to be well prepared for an interview, make sure you know the ins and outs of your company first. Look at the company website, research their clients, and check out their social media presence - anything to ensure you're fully versed on the position and the company. That way, you can answer each question thoroughly, and more importantly, tie your answers into the goals of the company," says Josh Tolan.

2. Don't wait for a job offer to jump-start your career.

When jobs seem to be few and far between, it's easy to get discouraged and feel as though you have no control. A good piece of advice is that you don't have to have a job offer to get your career started. "Say you're a newly minted journalism grad (for example) - you've got to get out there and start building your journalism résumé now, even if you haven't been offered a job. Start a blog, get involved in industry organizations, volunteer your writing services - create your own opportunities. And this advice applies across industries," says Charles Purdy. Get motivated by researching the backgrounds of people you admire in your field. They had to start somewhere, too.

3. Do develop networking skills.

In other words, talk to as many people in your field as possible, keep your professional online profiles up-to-date, and keep in contact with any former colleague or manager who could later serve as a reference. As Charles Purdy notes, you should "be smart about networking and your online profile - looking for a job isn't just about searching online and pressing that 'apply' button. After that, you've got to do some research and work your network to find an 'in' at the company." Whatever you do, don't burn bridges with any personal or professional contacts - you'll be exposed to more opportunities and potential success.

4. Don't think your online presence doesn't matter.

If ever there were a time when your online profiles mattered, it's now - especially during a job search. How you portray yourself on social media says a lot about you, and you don't want to let that be the make-or-break factor that sets you a step below another job candidate. "The fact is, the majority of employers will look you up online before even interviewing you. Make sure you have a thorough, professional online presence. Consider creating a professional blog or website to showcase what you know. Share your thoughts and opinions on industry topics, and share your work, your résumé, and anything else that can help better establish your brand," says Josh Tolan. Take the time to delete anything from your sites that could hurt the personal brand you're aiming to establish.

5. Do treat your job search as a full-time job itself.

Candace Williams puts it simply: "Hustle. Finding a job is a full-time job. If someone were to ask you, 'What did you do to find a job this week?' you should have a long answer that includes time sending résumés/cover letters, networking events, cold calls, informational interviews, research, and time crafting your portfolio/interview materials." It's not always easy, but your hard work will eventually pay off, and you'll definitely thank yourself later for putting in all those hours that led to your success.

6. Don't make your cover letter and résumé all about you.

While the main purpose of your résumé is to highlight your personal experience, when employers view it, they're really thinking about themselves and the company. "It's important to remember the cover letter and résumé are about what you can do for the employer, not the other way around," says Josh Tolan. "Showcase the skills you have that are most relevant to your prospective employer, and keep the focus on the company's mission and goals." This means that, yes, you should tweak your cover letter every time you send it out to a different company. It's more time consuming, but you're much more likely to hear back if you tailor your materials to the specific company rather than repeatedly sending out a generic summary of your past work experience. In each cover letter, mention something you admire about the company and how a specific skill you have could benefit that aspect.

7. Do have core values.

As Candace Williams notes, you should look for "a job you're passionate about and fits your core values." A prospective employer will be able to see through you if you truly aren't interested in the company. While you shouldn't be too choosy and limit yourself, you should have a set idea of the types of companies you're striving to work for. "If you're dropping random lines everywhere hoping for anything, you won't show the focus or passion companies want to see. Figure out what you want as a person and how this should manifest itself in your work."

8. Don't assume blind submissions won't be read.

You might feel stressed when looking through the seemingly endless posts on sites like Craigslist and Monster, but many companies do use those as reliable forms of application, and they will read your submissions. You've probably heard similar things as Candace Williams: "someone told me I should stop sending resumes via online forms because no one reads them. They are wrong. The key to Craigslist and online job hunting is to apply early," and make sure your "application has evidence you've thoroughly researched the company and will go the extra mile." Don't write off a job posting just because you don't have a direct contact.

9. Do play up any relevant skills that relate to the job.

While you don't want to keep the focus all about you, you also don't want to forget to highlight skills that the company clearly values. In fact, "you don't have to have been paid for something for it to be included in your résumé's summary section as a skill. Look at the job ad you're responding to, and figure out what experience you have that speaks to it - even if it's a soft skill like teamwork, you can cite a specific example of your success in that area," says Charles Purdy. Talk yourself up a little - a dose of confidence goes a long way.

10. Don't forget to treat the job search as a learning experience.

Above all, remember that seeking an entry-level job is a huge learning experience, and you should take in as much information as you can. Did you bomb a phone interview? Don't sweat it - now you know what not to do next time. As Kellie Melloy puts it, "don't get complacent. Always get momentum going, and don't forget you should always be gaining knowledge." Everything you experience during your job search will only benefit you in the long run of your career.

Disneyland Now Has Sparkly Lightsaber Churros, and We Need Them ASAP

In a galaxy far, far away, the dessert of your dreams awaits. Just kidding - it's only a hop, skip, and a jump away at Disneyland in California, where lightsaber churros are now on the menu, among other bucket-list-worthy treats.

Disneyland started crafting these Instagrammable goodies as an ode to the light-up defense mechanisms used by Jedis and Siths in the Star Wars movies. Though these edible renditions don't technically have the same limb-severing powers as the real ones, we kinda like this version better. Sold at the churro cart located outside of Star Tours, the lightsaber-themed churros are coated in vibrant-colored sugar (either blue or red, depending on if you feel like taking your tastebuds on a walk to the dark side). But it's not just any dyed sugar - it's shiny and filled with edible glitter and stars! Does it get much better than that?! I think not.

At first we thought it was just a limited-time-only snack to celebrate May the Fourth, but judging by the amount of social media buzz we're still seeing about these churros, we'll wager to say they'll be around for a little while longer. If you're heading to Disneyland this Summer, these babies better be on your list of must-eat treats. But until you embark on your theme park adventure, feel free tor read on and drool over some snapshots of the sugary desserts in the meantime.

Harry Styles Is on His Way to Legendary Status With This "Sign of the Times" Performance

If you don't mind standing in line for days to see Harry Styles, you may have caught his latest performance in NYC. The singer belted out "Sign of the Times" during the Today show, and dare we say we prefer this performance to his actual music video? He sounds tremendous live, and he's positively exuding star quality. (It takes a lot of confidence to pull off a pink suit, you know?) Check it out, and make sure you've caught his appearance on Saturday Night Live too.

Yes, Hannah Will "Absolutely" Be in 13 Reasons Why Season 2

Now that Netflix has confirmed a second season of 13 Reasons Why, we need to know everything about it. We had some theories for what it could be about, but it sounds like season two will pick up right after the events of season one We're campaigning for executive producer Selena Gomez to appear, but we'll also need to catch up with some existing characters. Is the school responsible? Who is responsible, if anyone is? One way we'll explore that question is through the trial and also through all of these kids reflecting on where they are a few months down the road and what other secrets are being uncovered. That's going to take us into the past, into Hannah's story. We're going to get some new context for events we already know about and we're going to see a lot of things we hadn't even heard about yet that fill in some really interesting gaps in our understanding of who Hannah Baker was and what her life was."

The Most Iconic Dresses in Red Carpet History

Whether it was because she took home an Oscar in the dress, or tripped on the train making her way up the stage (Yes, clearly that was a JLaw reference), these red carpet looks are iconic in our eyes. In some cases, the details on these gowns are what make them memorable (who could forget Lupita Nyong'o twirling in her Gucci pleats at Cannes?) In other scenarios, these stars wore outfits that were straight-up wild, causing a scene and making a lasting impression as soon as they stepped out of the limo. Below you'll find a handful of leading ladies and the one dress we immediately picture as soon as someone mentions their name.

Simone Biles Has a Savage Comeback After Being Asked Why She's Not Smiling

Olympic gold medalist, Zac Efron enthusiast, and all-around superstar Simone Biles is currently crushing it on Dancing With the Stars, and after her second performance on Monday night's show, Simone made the horrible mistake of not smiling during her critiques. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba gave the 20-year-old some mixed reviews, after which host Tom Bergeron said, "I was waiting for you to smile at some of the compliments . . . you didn't." In a moment of sheer brilliance and feminist badassery, Simone shrugged and remarked, "Smiling doesn't win you gold medals." A QUEEN.

Simone later addressed her savage comment - which won her tons of support from fans on social media - telling ET, "I feel like everyone has their own opinion, clearly, and I feel it's just how you take it," adding, "I feel like I am trying, I am being honest, but if they don't see that, I don't know what more I can do." Simone is no stranger to clapping back at haters, but this really seems like a win for any woman who has been told to smile by a clueless guy.

Joanna Gaines's Hilarious Wardrobe Realization Is Way Too Relatable

Despite Being Told She Wouldn't Walk, This Girl With Spina Bifida Ran a 5K Race

I CAN: They told her she couldn't walk so Clementine decided to run: http://6.wate.com/2psaB8l #WATE

Posted by WATE 6 On Your Side on Monday, May 8, 2017

At the start of this school year, 8-year-old Clementine White presented her parents with a registration form for a running club called Girls on the Run. While parents might otherwise be excited about their child's athletic interests, Clementine's parents had their concerns. See, Clementine was born with spina bifida. Thus, the spinal condition made walking an incredible feat.

In an interview with WATE-TV, Clementine's father, Brandon White, explained his initial reaction to the registration form. "You hate to have your kids fail at something that they're interested in," he said, adding, "That was my first thought: this is going to be something that is just too difficult."

Though her parents secretly hoped Clementine would forget about the running club, she didn't. Thanks to her unyielding determination, Clementine soon surprised not only her parents but herself, too. "My doctors said it wouldn't be possible for me to walk or run," Clementine said. "But then I'm starting to walk and I'm starting to run."

Clementine has since accomplished her goal of running and has even competed in a 5K race! Her mom, Christy White, is utterly inspired by her daughter. "She just blows my mind with the things she was willing to do and the things that like she just lets roll off her back," Christy said.

As for Clementine, she'll likely continue beating the odds and overcoming considerable obstacles. As she said, "I didn't really think I could do that, but now I can. Now I know I can."

5 Things We Know About 13 Reasons Why Season 2

Before Netflix could even announce whether a second season of 13 Reasons Why was a possibility, viewers divided themselves into two camps: those who wanted more episodes and those who absolutely did not. As of May 7, Netflix is forging ahead with season two, and we already have several key details. Of course, more solid information will trickle in over the next few months, but we're at a good starting place. Here's what we know!

1. The Plot

Before the renewal was finalized, we had a few creative theories about how Netflix could continue Hannah's story . . . it sounds like we're mostly wrong, though. Netflix's official statement says that season two "picks up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker's (Katherine Langford) death and the start of the characters' complicated journeys toward healing and recovery." Healing and recovery sounds great, but remember how season one ends? There's potential for a whole lot more damage.

Creator Brian Yorkey confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that "it's safe to say we pick up a number of months after the first season ended." He also said Hannah will be back, as they writers will again be weaving the past with the present, that we'll see more of Jessica's story, and that a different person will serve as the narrator.

2. The Teaser

The 21-second clip doesn't include any of the main actors, but it does focus on the locations we see in the first season. Liberty High School, The Crestmont, and Baker's Drug Store all flash on screen, meaning we'll probably be revisiting all these places.

3. Who Is Involved?

Creator Brian Yorkey is returning, but we don't yet know if author Jay Asher is helping write the new batch of episodes. In fact, Asher's recent Tweet seems to imply that he won't be involved: "My confident excitement for @13ReasonsWhy Season 2 rests in Brian Yorkey and the mind meld we performed a couple years ago. (And that cast!)" Selena Gomez posted the season two teaser on Instagram, so we can assume she's continuing on as an executive producer. As for the cast, it's very likely that most of them will be back (Ross Butler recently dropped out of Riverdale due to professional conflicts) if the episodes are just a continuation of the first season.

4. What the Cast Has Said

The cast have posted about their excitement for a second season via Twitter and Instagram, but they've remained tight-lipped about what season two could hold. Star Katherine Langford did speak to what she hopes will happen during a red carpet interview with E! News on May 7: "Personally, I would be interested to see more discussion into what's happening afterwards," she said. "It's interesting in the first season we get to see what the characters go through post-Hannah's death. I think Jessica [Alisha Boe] has a really interesting story to tell - and recovery to make."

5. The Premiere Date

Netflix confirmed that the second season will consist of another 13 episodes, which will stream on the site in 2018.

The Meaning Behind That Tiny Jar Symbol on All of Your Beauty Products

Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Emily Faulstitch

Sadly, beauty products are not immortal. In case you didn't know, makeup and skincare products have varying shelf lives. It's important to know their respective expiration dates so that you don't end up wasting your time with a dud or - even worse - irritating your skin. Fortunately, most brands will let you know exactly when a product expires thanks to a handy symbol you might not have known about.

On each beauty product, you can find a tiny little jar symbol with a number on it. That jar is referred to as the "period after opening" symbol, and it indicates how many months you can safely use a product after opening it. Is your mind blown yet?

The European Commission made the symbol mandatory in 2003, however, the United States currently does not require all cosmetics to state the expiration date via the PAO symbol. That being said, the Food and Drug Administration does encourage it. In a statement online, the FDA explained, "Manufacturers are responsible for making sure their products are safe. FDA considers determining a product's shelf life to be part of the manufacturer's responsibility."

So next time you find yourself questioning whether a product is past its prime, just look out for that tiny jar to know for certain.

One of our biggest questions, though, is about Hannah. Will she be involved, given that the entire first season revolves around her suicide? Before the official season two news was announced, the show's creator, Brian Yorkey, said Hannah will definitely be a part of season two.

"One of the things that is a fundamental element of our show is the weaving of past and the present," Yorkey told The Hollywood Reporter. "Hannah's story is still very much not finished. She's an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she's very much still at the center of it."

On May 9, Entertainment Weekly unveiled an exclusive interview with Yorkey, and he confirmed that Hannah will "absolutely" be in season two: "One of the things that is still hanging out there is this question of is someone responsible for Hannah's death? 9 Things I Learned From a Previously Unreleased Trump Documentary

In September 1989, New York Magazine published an article titled "Trump vs. Stern: The Unmaking of a Documentary." The piece described an ongoing battle between then-celebrity businessman Donald Trump and Leonard Stern, a fellow real estate tycoon who owned multiple media outlets - including The Village Voice. In 1988, Stern financially backed a documentary about Trump. Trump was not happy about it. Trump and Stern had already exchanged public insults in the past and were considered rivals, but Stern maintained that he did not influence the media companies he owned or the content they created - and that the same went for this project.

"In all the years that Donald has been in the spotlight, he is the same person. He has not changed. He still lies."

The documentary was meant to be the pilot episode in a series about celebrity businessmen in the 1980s, but it never made it to air. Trump allegedly started to make up rumors that Stern's wife was calling Trump to beg him for a date and threatened to sue major TV networks if they agreed to carry the documentary. "As we dug into Donald, we learned that he was perhaps the most litigious man in America," Libby Handros, who coproduced the documentary, told me in a recent email. "There was no cable, let alone the internet, so there were only three networks and some independent channels that ran syndicated programming. Given the limited number of outlets, it was sadly very easy for Donald to block the broadcast. All he had to do was threaten to sue anyone who would broadcast the film. Even if his charges had no merits, when someone receives legal papers they have to be answered." In other words: why take on the headache? The documentary languished.

As Trump started getting more involved with politics (and specifically after Trump attacked John McCain in July 2015), Handros decided it was time for the American public to finally see the documentary. She released it on Aug. 1, 2015. "Our tagline, old Trump, new Trump, same Trump I think says it all," she said. "In all the years that Donald has been in the spotlight, he is the same person. He has not changed. He still lies, he still cheats small contractors out of money by claiming they did not do a good job, for example."

According to Handros, Trump: What's the Deal - which is now available on iTunes for $8 - is a film that "proves that, far from being an outsider, Donald is the consummate insider. His father, Fred, was politically connected, and those connections propelled Donald forward, and he continued to use them."

The eye-opening documentary outlines some of the unsavory business decisions and tactics Trump used in New York City during the 1980s and serves as an explanation for his unpopularity in the city. Read on for some of its most shocking revelations.

1. Trump paid his wife Ivana $1 in salary for running a hotel.

In 1988, Trump bought the Plaza Hotel for $407.5 million. He made his then-wife, Ivana, the president of the hotel. Trump told the press her salary was "$1 a year and all the dresses she could buy." Later on, he could not afford to pay back the amount of debt the Plaza had acquired, and Citibank agreed to obtain a 49 percent stake in the hotel in exchange for forgiveness of $250 million in debt.

2. Trump lied to the press when Gorbachev visited New York.

When Mikhail Gorbachev, former leader of the Soviet Union, visited the US in 1988, Trump blabbed to TV stations and newspapers that Gorbachev planned to visit Trump Tower. In the film, Newsweek reporter Jonathan Alter commented: "It was almost a textbook example of a publicity stunt, which worked and has worked on many occasions for him." Not only was this never on the leader's list of stops, but the visit also did not happen.

3. Trump once sued an architecture critic for a bad review.

After Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic Paul Gapp criticized Trump's plan to build the tallest building in the world in New York, Trump sued for $500 million. Gapp spent a good amount of his article speculating about what the building might look like, since there were no rendering yet for him to judge. Most of his criticism came from the impracticality of the size and shape of the building. He explained that tall, slender buildings are economically inefficient. Eventually, the case was dismissed in Federal District Court in 1985.

4. Trump let people believe he was restoring the Central Park ice skating rink for free.

In 1986, Trump restored the ice skating rink in Central Park. Many New Yorkers were under the impression he did this as a great public service to the city, but in reality, he was paid in full - and his workers weren't. He told contractors that they were going to work "pro bono," and understandably, many of them did not understand that this meant working without pay or were unaware that Trump would be paid while they worked for free.

5. Trump landed his first big deal through a series of outsize political favors.

Trump's first major deal in Manhattan was renovating the rundown Commodore Hotel, which is now known as the Grand Hyatt New York. It was owned by bankrupt Penn Central Railroad, and the owners were desperate to get rid of it. According to the documentary, Hyatt still did not have a New York branch and Trump planned to buy the hotel and get Hyatt to manage it. Trump did not yet have the capital required for the project and had his father, Fred Trump, guarantee part of the construction loan. Through his father's extensive political ties, he got an enormous, 40-year tax abatement in 1976, which is still the longest ever granted by New York City. The project was approved on the last day of Mayor Beame's administration.

6. Trump demolished museum-worthy, historic architecture to build Trump Tower.

When Trump built his mecca, he had to tear down a historical New York building, the Bonwit Teller. The building contained priceless architecture, which he promised to gift to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. When he was told how much it would cost to remove the facades from the building in order to preserve them, they were mysteriously demolished.

The Trump Tower is also "missing" 10 floors to give the impression that the building is taller than it actually is. He later used this tactic again with his Trump International Hotel and Tower in Columbus Circle; he thought it was more impressive.

It's also well documented that Trump hired undocumented Polish workers to construct the tower. They slept at the work site and were not given protective gear; many of them were not paid in full either.

7. Trump bought a building in 1981 and then tried to kick out all of the tenants.

In 1981, Trump bought an apartment building located at 100 Central Park South in Manhattan. He reportedly walked in and told everyone in the rent-controlled apartments that they were being evicted and had to leave. According to the tenants interviewed in the documentary, Trump hired people to threaten them into leaving and claimed to be investigating (or lied about) their drinking habits, personal lives, and sexual orientation. He brought eviction lawsuits and lawsuits against the lawyer representing the tenants. Eventually, Trump settled with the tenants' association in 1986.

8. He destroyed an entire football league.

In 1983, Trump bought the New Jersey Generals, a failing team in the United States Football League (USFL). The USFL had been created as an indirect competitor to the NFL, but the teams played in the Spring instead of the Fall. While the USFL was never as successful as the NFL and infrequently received better ratings than Major League Baseball (aired during the Spring), many saw the league's potential.

Initially, Trump generated a lot of publicity for the league and helped gain attention and viewership to the USFL. However, Trump wanted to compete directly with the NFL and urged his fellow USFL team owners to move the league to the Fall. According to court transcripts, the goal of this was to either "have a league that's going to be just as valuable as the NFL, or we're going to have a merger."

The NFL already had contracts with the three major TV networks, so the USFL filed an antitrust lawsuit for $1.69 billion. Trump provided the lawyers (including his buddy Roy Cohn).

When the jury finally reached a decision, they sided with the USFL. However, instead of awarding them the fortune they had asked for, they were only awarded $3.75. At this point, the USFL could not hope for a merger and knew they could not compete directly with the NFL. The owners decided to end the USFL in 1986.

9. He's thought about running for president for a very long time.

The documentary includes footage of an interview with Trump from 1989 on the show 11th Hour. In the clip, the reporter asked Trump if he would ever consider running for president. His response was, "I would much prefer that someone else do it; I just don't know if somebody else is there. I don't know if we have the type of advocate that we need. We need major surgery. This country needs major surgery."

The documentary ends with a somewhat eerie prediction from then-Spy magazine writer Graydon Carter, now the editor of the Trump-maligned Vanity Fair: "The only end to this road is ultimate madness, living alone in an apartment in Panama . . . or taking over the world. One or the other. It's either the most public life in the world or the most private at the end of this. There's no in between . . . either the greatest Bond villain of all time or Howard Hughes."

The Incredible Story Behind 1 Burn Survivor's Breastfeeding Journey

When Schamica Stevenson was 2 years old, she was severely burned in a house fire that killed her baby brother. After that tragic day, Schamica endured countless skin grafts and had yearly surgeries until she was 17. A few years later she became pregnant with her first baby, but after giving birth this young mom didn't breastfeed.

"When I first got pregnant with my daughter at 20 years old, my first scare wasn't the fact that I now have to tell my parents; I was more worried about whether or not my body was made to carry a baby and if the scars on my stomach would stretch," she told POPSUGAR. "They stretched just fine but was a little tight on the sides. The major downfall from my scars is that I am unable to receive an epidural."

Years later when Schamica was ready to have a second baby, she spent three years trying to get pregnant and had two miscarriages. But after giving birth to her baby boy in March, this strong mom made it her mission to do things differently. "I was determined to breastfeed him after watching my cousin nurse all four of her kids," Schamica said. "The lactation nurse warned me that 'this is not going to feel good' as she tugged and pulled at my breasts. It killed, but I was determined to have that breastfeeding bond with my son."

Schamica began pumping at the hospital to help her milk supply but she still wasn't producing enough. "I asked the staff for the formula only because of my little supply and I was afraid my scar tissue was constricting my milk ducts, but I stuck to it," she said. Now, Schamica produces more than enough milk, her son has no problem latching, and the pain she once experienced is gone.

The brave mom first shared her powerful photos on the Black Women Do Breastfeed Facebook page and is opening up about her journey because she's proud of what she's accomplished. "I wanted to share my story to help others not give up like I did when I was 20 years old," she said. "I don't want people to see me and feel sorry for me, but instead feel inspired to overcome their own flaws and obstacles."

Pope Francis Has Some Harsh Words About Using "Mother" to Describe a Bomb

When the United States military dropped the largest nonnuclear bomb in its arsenal, dubbed the "Mother of All Bombs," on April 13, the reaction was mixed among the press and politicians. Some outlets praised the detonation as a stunning show of strength, while others admonished the glorification of war. Pope Francis, a consistent critic of populist rhetoric around the world, is the most recent to denounce the weapon and its label.

On May 8, the pope was speaking to an audience of students at the Vatican when he criticized how the weapon was described by the military. Though officially called a Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), the pope took issue with its nickname.

"I was ashamed when I heard the name," Pope Francis said of bomb dropped on an eastern province of Afghanistan. "A mother gives life and this one gives death, and we call this device a mother. What is happening?"

Pope Francis has staunchly defended immigrants and religious freedom, and cautioned against an abundance of power. Without naming him directly, the pope has also censured President Donald Trump's many controversial policies. The two are scheduled to meet at the Vatican on May 24.

Easy DIY Gift: Decorate a Mug With a Sharpie

Do you have a plain, boring mug that needs a bit of spicing up? Personalize your cups and mugs by drawing on them! You can use them to add personality to your home or even give them as gifts to your loved ones. Here's how to start:

  1. Buy some white cups or mugs. You can find them in superstores, thrift stores, dollar stores, and online.
  2. Pick a Sharpie. For long-lasting results, choose oil-based paint Sharpie markers. Regular Sharpie ink can come off even after baking. Pick a color to use on your mug. You can stay simple and choose one color, or be more ambitious and use multiple. If you're sticking to one color, then black is usually a good choice, given its striking contrast to the white background of the mug.
  3. Start drawing. Decide what you want to put on the cup, and maybe practice drawing it on a piece of paper before drawing on the mug. Pick a meaningful quote or a cute graphic to decorate the mug with, and get inspired by mugs being sold on Etsy or by googling examples of Sharpie mug projects online.
  4. Dry it out. Let your mug dry for a few hours or overnight before placing it into the oven. You can also draw over it again if you'd like to make sure the pattern doesn't come off in the wash. If you draw over it again, be sure to leave it out to dry again before baking.
  5. Bake it. Bake the mug in the oven for 30 minutes at 350°F. Remember to place the mug in the oven before it heats up and leave it in until the oven cools completely so there won't be any cracks. You can choose to bake the mugs twice to really set in the Sharpie drawings.
  6. Care and wash. Hand-wash the mug gently instead of throwing it in the dishwasher, as a machine washer may ruin the design.

Some Sharpie mug DIYers may advise you to spray the mug with acrylic sealing spray to make sure the Sharpie etchings doesn't rub off. I personally didn't want to do that because the spray can be toxic. However, if you decide to go that route, be sure to avoid spraying near the top and on the inside of the mug. You can cover those areas with masking tape to protect them before you spray.
