Till Death-Defying Climb Do Us Part - Couple Weds on Mt. Everest

Some couples opt for a casual wedding with no frills and little stress. Some couples don't. James and Ashley decided that instead of your average nuptials, they'd do something a little more adventurous. They were married at a Mt. Everest base camp and became the first couple to exchange vows in an actual wedding dress and tuxedo on the mountain.

"We trained for the year and planned to be on the mountain for two to three weeks in order to acclimatize our way up to base camp so James and Ashley can get married and get a few photos," said Charleton Churchill, the adventure photographer who shot the breathtaking photos. "I had attempted base camp with another in 2015, but the devastating earthquake of Nepal including the massive avalanche that swept EBC turned everyone around off the mountain. I wasn't sure if I would find another couple to get married on Everest anytime soon," he added.

James and Ashley, however, were ready to try it. The couple reached out to Churchill and were prepared to do what it took to hike to the base camp and say their "I dos" against the backdrop of the tallest mountain in the world. If there's any way to test the strength of a relationship, we'd bet it's by forging upward through snow and ice, facing high altitudes, physical stress, and unpredictable weather - together.

"There's no glory without suffering."

"Now saying this was an epic and amazing trip is true, but I would be remiss if I didn't share it came with some suffering, doubt, fear, anxiety, and physical pain. Often times when striving for something great, there's usually a cost. There's no glory without suffering. We worked hard for these images with much less time to photograph a short wedding than we planned. It started snowing hard a few days into the journey. According to our Sherpa guide, it dumped more snow on us than it had all winter. The temperatures ranged from -8 degrees to 10 degrees Fahrenheit from 14,000 ft. camp and above," Churchill said on his site. James also had a scare when he woke up having trouble breathing and had to sleep with an oxygen mask on the rest of the night. They ended up carrying the oxygen with them to the site of the photo shoot. "When we arrived to base camp, we were told we have 1 hour and 30 minutes to eat, get married, pack up, and get on a helicopter. So, we ate, drank, and got married in an hour. James and Ashley exchanged vows at Mt. Everest Base camp right in front of the famous Khumbu ice-fall where people use ladders to maneuver over crevasses, and with the beautifully carved Nuptse Face in the backdrop. Their epic wedding was surrounded by all these famous mountains."

The couple said their vows to each other and exchanged rings at around 17,000 feet. "It was truly a moment of awesomeness, knowing where we were at that time, and how hard we worked to get there, this moment was finally happening," said Churchill. "They were getting married surrounded by an orchestra of mountains. The Khumbu ice-fall right behind them, the starting point in climbing to the summit of Mt. Everest. Truly unreal."

I Shouldn’t Have Brought My Toddler to Your Cocktail Party

The following story, "I Shouldn't Have Brought My Toddler to Your Cocktail Party" by Alyssa Shelasky was originally published on Boomdash.

Are you a "chill mom"?

I've always identified as one. I like to think my lack of neurosis makes my daughter lighthearted and cool.

Last night, however, it only made us jerks.

Here's what happened. I was co-hosting a cocktail party with some friends, and I could not get a sitter. It wasn't a party I could skip in good conscience, and I was out of options. So I brought my daughter, Hazel.

Because . . . who doesn't love an 18-month-old in a Zara frock?

I'll tell you who: literally anyone trying to have a glass of wine and an adult conversation, surrounded by glimmering candles, great art, and meaningful things from around the globe.

The party was at my friend's gorgeous apartment in Chelsea. I asked permission to bring Hazel in advance, and my friend, a Great Hostess, said, "Fun!"

Of course, asking permission doesn't make everything OK . . . it doesn't make it a good idea. Though "Fun!" is what I told myself as I piled the two of us into an UberPool at 6 p.m., half an hour shy of Hazel's bedtime.

We arrived at the party unfashionably early. The apartment looked exquisite. Velvet-upholstery-and-crystal-goblets exquisite. I've been to her place before but, Jesus, it never looked this beautiful - and breakable.

I've been to her place before but, Jesus, it never looked this beautiful - and breakable.

Hazel busted right in. "Hiiiiiiii," she said in her little squirrel voice. Adorable. She helped Great Hostess with some final preparations. Precious. She ate some radishes and chèvre and called them her "num-nums." Aw. She said please ("peas") and thank you ("tank ya") and called everyone, "Babyyyy."

And then Great Hostess went to light the votive candles, but not before asking if I was OK with that. And because I'm soooo wild-hearted and whimsy, I said, "No probs, Lady."

Here's another word to describe me in that moment: STUPID. It only took 30 seconds and a near catastrophe to realize that I put my daughter in danger. What was I thinking?

So when Great Hostess wasn't looking, I blew out all the votives and ditched them in unreachable locations. And so began a long night of moving, hiding, shifting, and destroying the evidence of, well, freakin' everything.

Wherever trouble lurked, Hazel found it. Artisanal steak knives; rare books; Bvlgari perfume. Forget the uncut grapes, unfinished cocktails, and unlocked iPhones she tore into. She wasn't naughty, she was just . . . 18 months old. But hey, we're the happy-go-lucky mommy and baby team. Right??? Wrong, wrong, wrong!

I deeply regretted bringing her. I wanted to socialize. There was an editor there whom I've tried to write for, forever - there was never a minute to approach him, but Hazel did cuddle his lower thigh. My best friend showed up from LA and I had hoped to introduce her to work contacts. But it was impossible. My head throbbed. There was prosciutto in my bra - and I don't eat pork.

So I pulled the ol' Irish exit and got us out of there STAT. I didn't thank Great Hostess. I didn't Instagram the Georgetown Cupcakes, which my girlfriends, the owners, sent over as a favor. I didn't clean up the stinky cheese that was smeared on the plush couch or the cashews that were sprinkled in the slippers. I bounced.

UberPool couldn't come soon enough. And that was another saga.

Needless to say, I woke up feeling like crap. Embarrassed. Why didn't I bring her toys and books? Why doesn't my kid sit still? Why didn't I bribe a friend to babysit?

My mother likes to remind me how well behaved my sister and I were. And it's true, we were. But we weren't toddlers trying to hang with New York sophisticates way past our bedtimes. We weren't waiting on UberPool in itchy tights after a full day of baby Jazz and rainy playgrounds with no afternoon nap. We were probably, like, 6, eating challah French toast and watching Care Bears.

What I'm saying is, none of this was Hazel's fault . . . it was all mine.

All I can do is learn from my mistakes. There's a nice way to balance chill and responsible. And most of the time, I walk that line. But no more slipping up. It's not "fun!" The only thing that matters, ever, is my daughter's well-being - and while exposing her to an electrifying livelihood is certainly a gift, so is a 100 percent safe environment.

I texted my best friend from LA this morning: "Do you think anyone from that party will ever speak to me again?" A second later, she wrote back, "What are you talking about? Hazel was the life of the party. You handle motherhood with such grace."

What?! Grace?! REALLY?!

We beat ourselves up as moms. We are tired and overwhelmed, and sometimes we feel things that aren't real. We think everyone hates us. We think we're screwing it all up. We think we need to back up the truck, and do it all over. And then again. More rules. Less rules. Be smarter. Stronger. Softer. Wiser. Better.

I still want to tighten up my game. And I still regret bringing Hazel to the party. But mostly, I wish I drank the Champagne.

Archie Is Joined by All His Exes on Stage in This Riverdale Sneak Peek

It's the musical moment we've been waiting for all season long - Archie is finally teaming up with Josie and the Pussycats on Riverdale! Ahead of the season one finale on Thursday, the red-headed heartthrob sings an original song, "Share It With You," with the epic girl band. Not only are his ex-loves Veronica and Valerie on hand for the performance, but at one point, he even makes heart-eyes with Betty as she watches backstage. Needless to say, we are having a heart attack, especially since Jughead is completely MIA. We don't think our Bughead hearts can handle this.

Activate Your Emotional Intelligence to Nail Your Next Job Interview

Congratulations! Scoring an interview confirms it: your credentials are turning heads. As you prepare, you're probably thinking through answers to interview questions, amassing references, and contemplating all you've learned from your current position - all great prep.

The interviewers already know you're well-qualified. But you want them to leave the room saying, "I need her on my team." That's where your emotional intelligence (or EQ) comes in.

What's the deal with EQ?

EQ guru Dr. Travis Bradberry explains: "Emotional intelligence is the 'something' in each of us that is a bit intangible. It affects how we manage behavior, navigate social complexities, and make personal decisions to achieve positive results."

Nailing a job interview calls upon this "something." It's not just about answering questions. It's also about demonstrating fit. Here's how:

Forge connections

When you lead with your EQ, you view your interviewers not just as gatekeepers to something you want, but as actual people with whom you can connect. So think about connecting as much as impressing.

Break the ice by sharing your enthusiasm. You'll find it's infectious and will likely inspire your interviewers to share theirs. Do your research to find what makes this organization a unique and thrilling place to work. Also note factors about the environment that impress you. For example:

  • "I was blown away to see that there's an org-wide green policy. It must feel great to work for a socially conscious institution."
  • "Campus is electric when the students are changing classes. It must be inspiring to have that energy around you."
  • "I've always admired this beautiful building. It must be cool to work in such a beautiful space."

Genuine enthusiasm is an attractive quality, so find an angle that helps you muster it. You may also find that connecting with your interviewers helps quell your jitters.

Slow down

Embrace your role as interviewee. You may or may not get this job, but there's value in this meeting either way. Calm yourself. Breathe. If a drink is offered, accept that hospitality. Doing so reminds you to relax into the moment, and it adds an air of friendliness - which is how it should feel because this is just a group of professionals discussing an opportunity. It benefits both sides for this conversation to go well. It speaks well of the interviewers to foster a productive interview, just as it speaks well of the interviewee to participate in one. You have a shared and attainable goal.

Readjust your mindset

Instead of thinking: "I just have to get through this and make these important points," try thinking: "I'm having a conversation about an exciting opportunity that could be a fit for me." Aim to enjoy this experience. Isn't it awesome that you have a greater realm of jobs open to you than you did the last time you searched? Look how much more you qualify for now!

An interview is just a conversation. You're not getting weighed for your worth as a human being. The job you're discussing may be one you really need or want, and that may tempt you to throw desperation at the project. But putting that hurdle in your way won't help. Get comfortable in your skin and in the situation - from that vantage point, you're much more inclined to enact your best work.

How a Stranger Kept 1 Mom Alone With Twin Babies From Being Kicked Off a Flight

What was supposed to be a simple flight for Mackenzie Murphy turned into an incredibly long day, and this woman wasn't even traveling with an infant. But the mom sitting a couple of aisles in front of Mackenzie wasn't as lucky, as she was hit with multiple problems while trying to fly alone with her twin babies, who Mackenzie estimates were likely under 6 months old.

Mackenzie described the scenario, explaining that because the flight was packed, airline staff began taking carry-on luggage to store under the plane. "A gate worker took this woman's car seat, meaning she would now have to hold both babies since they weren't old enough to sit up on their own in a seat," Mackenzie shared with the Love What Matters Facebook page. "When she sat down on the plane, a flight attendant immediately told her she couldn't hold both babies, and would have to leave the flight."

Before this mom could gather her babies and her things, a stranger sitting in front of Mackenzie volunteered to hold one of the babies during the entire flight. However, before they could even start their 45-minute flight, the plane ended up being stuck on the runway for two and half hours.

"Without a complaint this woman fed the other woman's baby and burped him," Mackenzie wrote. "Her own daughter started crying. This mom, so calmly, went on to explain to her young daughter that 'Our job is to help other people. This mom is all by herself with no help, and really needs another mom to help.'"

This kind woman continued to restore Mackenzie's faith in humanity as she went on to sing the baby songs and snuggle him as he slept. "My heart still feels fuzzy," she wrote. "Moral of the story is when you see people needing help, do the right thing and help them."

A Pregnant Mom Got Help Soothing Her Crying Baby on a Flight From This Unexpected Stranger

When a pregnant mom boarded a plane with her toddler son, she probably knew it was going to be a difficult flight. What she didn't know was that she'd find support in one of the unlikeliest of places: a complete stranger.

Instead of zoning out a crying child like so many passengers try to do, one man got up and helped. And Angela Byrd, another passenger, captured the moment on camera.

"On a flight back to Georgia, this man, who was a stranger to this woman, offered to help her because she was pregnant and alone on the flight and her son was upset and fussy," Byrd wrote in a post on the Everything Georgia Facebook page earlier this week.

So, what connected this man to this woman?

"He told her that he was a dad," she wrote. "He wanted to help her so she could rest. He walked the aisle most of the flight from Minneapolis to Atlanta comforting this woman's son as if he was his own. I was in tears . . . because it showed me today that there are still good people out there in a world full of turmoil."

12 Clever Ways to Organize Your Beauty Stash Inspired by the KonMari Method

One of the greatest luxuries in my life is space. When a surface - be it my office desk or vanity bureau at home or bathroom cabinet - lacks clutter, my head instantly feels clearer. And the funny thing about space is that while it's free and something I can control, I often don't see much of it. As a beauty editor, I am constantly getting new products to test, and while this sounds pretty awesome (and it is!), it also leads to untidiness. So I crave clean space and product-free countertops.

Before my now-fiancé moved into my apartment last Fall, he gifted me Marie Kondo's bestselling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. And for me, it really was both life changing and magical. The essence of the KonMari method is to take out all of your items in a category and examine each one, questioning "does this bring me joy?" And only if it does, do you keep it. She then offers a ton of storage ideas, such as stacking items vertically in drawers so you can see them.

After reading it cover to cover, I took two days off to handle the big clean-out task. When I was on the other side of the emotional journey, I felt wonderful and my apartment finally felt more spacious. My beauty stash was significantly cut down, and while I have to work hard to upkeep it, I now know what to do when it's time to declutter.

Why This Orange Is the New Black Star Called Out Hollywood's Ageist Casting

Orange Is the New Black star Jamie Denbo is not here for Hollywood's sexist and ageist casting. The actress, who plays Ginsberg on the Netflix series, went on an epic rant on Wednesday to express her frustration with a recent casting call where she was told that she was "too old" to play the wife of a 57-year-old actor. In a series of heated tweets, she explained to her followers that the male star, who is considered an "American treasure," wanted his onscreen wife to be at most 38 years old, even though his real-life wife is at least 50.

While we applaud Jamie for fighting back, we can't help but wonder which Hollywood star she was referring to. But when a brave fan asked for names, she simply added that she didn't want to ruin it for everyone since he is an "American treasure." Yikes.

Tear Gas Grenades Didn't Stop This Venezuelan Protestor From Playing the National Anthem

Protests against the left-wing, teetering-on-a-dictatorship government have continued to rock Venezuela. The crisis, which began roughly three years ago, has descended into chaos. In recent weeks, antigovernment activists have encountered a violent response from the military; since demonstrations reignited in the last month, 37 people have been killed. Yet amid the upheaval, an ardent love of country persists among the protesters, and a haunting video of a young man playing the national anthem - while tear gas grenades detonate around him - exemplifies their passion.

The powerful moment was captured by local journalist Iván Ernesto Reyes and shared on Twitter. The young man's face is unidentifiable and covered, but his youth is apparent. The video is especially poignant given the death of another violinist protesting at the end of April.

Reyes spoke to CNN about the video and explained how it came about. "There he was, standing, playing the Venezuelan anthem, and with a couple of kids that were around him, sort of protecting him," Reyes told CNN. "There were bombs, tear gas, and repression, but he kept playing his violin. He did not stop."

In the Twitter post describing the violinist's song, Reyes termed the event as magical realism. "Today I witnessed a true example of magical realism. A protester played his violin while the (national guards) threw tear gas and pellets," Reyes said.

2017 Will Be Extra Exciting For These Pregnant Stars

We're all hoping for good things in 2017, but some stars are expecting more than just success and happiness - they're also expecting babies. Beyoncé announced her pregnancy - with twins - in February, as did George and Amal Clooney, and they join a crop of other stars with buns in the oven. From first-time moms like Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port to public figures like Amal Clooney and Princess Sofia, who are on their second bundles of joy, it's going to be a pretty fun year.

Zooey Deschanel Welcomes Her Second Child!

Zooey Deschanel is a mom again! "Zooey, Jacob, and their daughter Elsie are overjoyed to welcome the newest member of their family," her rep told the magazine. News that Zooey was expecting her second child first broke in January when she was spotted with a baby bump while filming her hit Fox show. Congrats to the happy pair on their growing family!

Jeffree Star on Too Faced Controversy: "Get Ready For a Blood Bath"

Beauty fans are feeling compelled to choose sides after Jeffree Star went on a major rant against Too Faced cofounder Jerrod Blandino earlier this Spring. Star called out Blandino for allegedly shading Tarte with a now-deleted Instagram post that was captioned #ThereArentUnicornsInTheAmazon, a supposed dig against the brand's Amazonian clay collection and unicorn-inspired range of products. (You can catch up on all that controversy here.)

However, that one Instagram has spawned a great deal of trouble, resurrecting drama from late 2016. Star had hinted at some shady business between his former friend and fellow influencer Nikkie Tutorials and Too Faced but had stopped himself before saying too much. Now, more details about the Nikkie Tutorials and Too Faced collab have surfaced.

Some may recall that many were disappointed by the quality of the shadow palette in her collection with Too Faced, but Nikkie never addressed this issue, which may have been due to nondisclosure agreements. YouTuber Sanders Kennedy revealed that Nikkie was allegedly paid $50,000 for the partnership - and restricted from teaming up with any other brands or sponsors during this time - but her products yielded almost $9 million in sales. Star pointed this out in tweets.

Another interesting layer of this controversy is that Nikkie and Star aren't friends anymore. In an exclusive comment to Here For the Tea, Star said, "Her and I are no longer friends. You can confirm that. But I still respect her hustle and I watched first hand how they abused her and know how much she got paid. It's embarrassing. I think anyone else BUT me would be afraid to mention the contract. I did it to make a statement and so the audience has a taste as to WHY the palette was so sh*tty. She approved something and what was produced was not the same quality."

It is not confirmed as to why the two no longer speak. But Star's decisions to stand up for her means he may be facing legal action for his remarks. He alludes to this in his tweets, below.

It's hard to infer from these cryptic tweets, but remember: Too Faced was acquired by Estée Lauder in November 2016. Could Estée Lauder be the huge corporation Star is referring to? Star will not be stopped, though, as he went on to share that a Too Faced employee leaked the Nikkie Tutorials contract to him.

The Too Faced/Jeffree Star drama got even more complicated when Blandino's sister Lisa got involved. Star exposed this in a series of tweets, sharing that she bashed his customers.

While Blandino has not remarked on his sister's actions, a quick visit to his Instagram reveals that comments have been disabled for many of his posts. Other posts are filled with commenters sharing their displeasure with the Too Faced cofounder, swearing off the brand and leaving snake emoji in their wake. POPSUGAR has reached out to Jeffree Star, Jerrod Blandino, and Nikkie Tutorials for comment. Stay tuned for more updates on this controversy as they become available.

9 Things You Should Absolutely Avoid Before Getting Laser Hair Removal

Before you permanently do anything to your body, make sure you know what you're getting into. That includes laser hair removal. It may seem like a no-brainer: zap unwanted hair with a wand, and poof! It's gone. But it's not that simple.

First, choose a place to get laser where the pros will be honest with you. I was hesitant about trying it myself, but after reading reviews about different spots, I decided to laser my armpits at Romeo and Juliette in NYC. I liked that technicians there would not just do the treatment on any part of my body. For example, they did not want to do it on my upper arms, where the hair growth is hormonal. This made me feel confident that the areas they did take on were actually treatable. While I am still treating my pits, the hair has gone from coarse and dark to soft and blonde.

Along the way I learned more tips from the spa's owner Christian Karavolas. For instance, you can't do laser when you have a spray tan! I had no idea. Keep reading to discover why that is a problem plus eight other things to never do when getting laser hair removal.

Tip: Avoid self-tanner

Why: "You should always avoid self-tanner when you know you have a session booked for a few reasons," Karavolas said. "It is best to wait at least four weeks after you have used a self-tanner before getting your next treatment. Having self-tanner on your skin may increase the chances of having unwanted side effects, like blisters or burns. Also, self-tanners darken the surface of the skin which creates a competing target for the light energy of the laser - the other competing target being the color in the hair. By darkening the surface of the skin, more laser energy will be absorbed at the skin's surface rather than at the base (bulb) of the hair follicle, which is where we want the light energy to be absorbed to result in a good treatment."

Tip: Avoid actual tanning

Why: "Like the self-tanning rule of thumb, we usually recommended to avoid general sun exposure for at least seven-10 days before and after your appointment," Karavolas explained. "Wait a good six months at minimum, if you are prone to getting hyperpigmentation as a response to treatments (acne, burns, scratches etc). Generally, it is best not to have a tan at all if you are planning treatments because if the color of your skin is closer to the color of your hair, then the laser's setting may not be as aggressive, and you may need more treatments to remove all the hair.

He went on: "Avoiding the sun and applying sunblock daily are highly recommended in general while receiving treatments. This helps to minimize the risk of side effects, such as burns, blisters, and pigment changes. Tanned skin can be more prone to these types of complications with laser hair removal. Remember, a tan is essentially a bruise on the skin, and you don't want your skin to be compromised for laser hair removal."

Tip: Avoid antibiotics

Why: "Antibiotics may increase photosensitivity," he noted. "Photosensitivity is inflammation of the skin induced by a combination of light and certain medications or substances. The skin becomes more prone to elements of heat damage including blisters, rashes, fever, fatigue, joint pain, etc. We recommend that you check with your personal physician prior to receiving laser treatments if you are currently taking a longterm antibiotic. If you become ill and begin taking an antibiotic mid-treatment, you will need to stop the medication for seven days before your next laser treatment. You should always consult with your physician for your personal needs."

Tip: Avoid certain vitamins

Why: "You should always check with your family physician for your personal needs, but in general, we suggest you avoid supplements that are blood thinners and generally vitamin E in large doses," Karavolas said. "Also, a lot of clients don't think about it, but if you are taking a hair growth supplement, that may have an adverse effect on your treatments."

Tip: Avoid Makeup

Why: "We don't recommend applying normal makeup or concealer before your sessions," he explained. "Laser is attracted to pigment and melanin, and anything that is of dark color will be attracted to the laser and could make it less active. You can apply mineral makeup directly after treatment to cover any noticeable redness, but we would also advise you to remove this thoroughly in the evening to make sure the skin can recover. We suggest you limit the products you put on your skin so you have less chance of irritation."

He added: "It is best to wait 24-48 hours - depending on your skin's recovery - to put full-coverage makeup on. If you are self-conscious of your skin, we recommend making your appointments in the evening after work or school, so that you do not need to worry about later commitments and the need to put makeup on right away. When you do cleanse your skin, make sure to use tepid water with a fragrance-free cleanser and a clean towel to dry the skin. Avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliators and if you have excess redness, apply a layer of aloe vera to reduce the redness."

Tip: Avoid deodorant

Why: "Deodorant absolutely needs to be avoided, or washed off, prior to a session treating the armpit area," he said. "Some deodorants leave a residue. It will deflect the laser light because (as with makeup detailed above) the laser will be attracted to the residue and will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the laser. You should also wait 24 hours post treatment to apply deodorant as you do not want to irritate the area post sessions."

Tip: Skip laser if you have a cold sore or breakout

Why: "Active oral or genital herpes infection are a temporary contra-indication for the procedure," Karavolas noted. "However, once it has healed, treatment can be done. If you are prone to cold sores, we suggest you take prophylactic anti-viral medication before your sessions to prevent an outbreak. [Talk to your doctor first.] Additionally, if you have an active cold sore, the heat from the laser would make it worse as laser causes heat on the skin, which in turn would make the cold sore much worse. Avoid laser treatments altogether until you are healed."

Tip: Also pass on laser if you have an acne breakout

Why: "If you have an acne breakout, it is best to avoid laser treatments," he said. "As explained with regards to cold sores, the heat of the laser may excite the glands and increase breakouts." He added that even if you have a breakout near the area you're getting laser, your zits could get worse. Talk to your dermatologist about clearing up your acne before getting laser on or near the area.

Tip: Avoid laser around the time of the month

Why: During your cycle, there is more sensitivity towards pain than any other time of the month, therefore we suggest that the person waits until their cycle is over to continue treatments. There is no contra-indication with having laser hair removal performed during one's cycle except for elevated sensitivity towards pain.

Sleepy Hollow Has Been Canceled After 4 Seasons

After four supernatural seasons, Sleepy Hollow has been canceled. The show, starring Tom Mison, made a huge splash when it premiered in 2013. Fox not only gave it a green light for season one, but ordered a second season. Since then, ratings have steadily declined. Though the show had a dedicated fan base, the cancellation isn't a huge shock, especially since female lead Nicole Beharie left in 2016.

Current star Janina Gavankar tweeted about the news on Tuesday.

RIP, Sleepy Hollow. See what other shows have been canceled or renewed this season!

I Brought 2 Skincare Secrets Home From Japan - and They Transformed My Complexion

The rumors are true: Asia is a skincare paradise, and its women have flawless complexions. I was able to witness this IRL on a press trip to Okinawa with beauty brand SK-II. The company was hosting an event to discover Asia's next top beauty creator, and thus hundreds of influencers from across the continent had descended upon the Japanese island.

I don't think I saw a single blemish, wrinkle, or dry patch on a face other than my own throughout my visit, and I was obviously eager to learn the secret behind perfection. I met with Kazumi Toyama, Global SK-II senior manager, Technical Marketing & Scientific Communications, to unveil the defining differences between Asian and Western skincare regimens. According to her, there are only two distinctions - and they are so simple! - but they are essential for a youthful, glowing complexion.

You're removing your eye makeup wrong.

You've probably heard that ever since you were old enough to understand what eye cream was, it should be applied with caution to this delicate area. But while I've been daintily applying treatments with the pad of my ring finger, I've also been removing my eye makeup like a savage, leaving my skin streaked and slightly sore from rubbing. This is unacceptable behavior overseas.

Kazumi noted that heavier eye makeup is starting to increase in popularity in Asia, as smoky eyes and other Kardashian makeup is migrating there from the states. However, there's more education behind eye care there. "We're teaching them how to do the gentle removal," she said. "Because we know that this area really is the fastest to show signs of aging, we make sure that when we cleanse, it's very gentle."

That means no aggressive rubbing. Instead, simply soak a cotton pad with your favorite makeup remover, press it firmly to your closed eyelid, and hold it there for around 10 seconds. (This will allow the formula to dissolve your mascara, liner, shadow, and any other products.) Then, gently wipe off your makeup in one smooth motion. Repeat as necessary until the cotton pad comes away clean. Dr. Jart+ Dermaclear Micro Makeup Remover Pads ($20) are designed for this exact method and are infused with a cleanser with a milky formula, the texture that Kazumi recommends for makeup removal.

Swap out your toner for facial essence.

The other minor skin switch? Put down your toner. For many American beauty junkies, this is the first slot in a skincare regimen postcleanse, but it's creating a stripped, parched canvas for the following products. "It's harsh and removes water rather than adds it," Kazumi said.

After Asian women wash their faces, they use an essence instead. This is not a generalization - according to Kazumi, approximately 95 percent of consumers overseas incorporate essences into their routines. "It's very specific to Asian skin care," she said.

Approximately 95 percent of consumers overseas incorporate essences into their routines.

As you've likely noticed, essences (also known as "clear lotions") have made their way into American skincare markets, but there is still a lot of confusion around these formulas. Essences basically function as a thin, watery serum that is meant to be patted into clean skin as the first step of any regimen. They're packed with high concentrations of powerful ingredients and infuse a complexion with deep hydration.

SK-II's Facial Treatment Essence ($179) contains more than 90 percent of Pitera, the brand's fermented, yeast-derived star ingredient, which hydrates, brightens, and gently exfoliates without stripping the skin. And, like most essences, it absorbs quickly and leaves no residue behind, making an ideal addition into even the laziest of regimens. However, don't use essence as a replacement for moisturizer (in other words, don't be too lazy). You should be following the application of this step with a hydrating cream like they do in Asia.

Seeing the precedence that was placed on proper skincare routines abroad, I gave my own a complete overhaul after returning home from Japan. I also incorporated both of these tricks into my regular regimen. I confess that I am still struggling to be patient when removing my eye makeup, but I am officially addicted to using an essence and don't go a day without using SK-II's. I have always been blessed with good skin, but now more than ever, I am receiving compliments on its luminosity and even tone. Discover more essence shopping recommendations here.

1 Woman Gave Up Washing Her Face For 6 Months - and Her Skin Transformation Is Astounding

We've been using the magical potion that is micellar water for a few years now, but thanks to one Redditor, we now know just how magical the stuff is. Reddit user mollsballsss posted to the SkincareAddiction subreddit to share before and after photos of her skin, showing how it's been transformed by using exclusively micellar water to cleanse her face.

"In the past year, I found this subreddit and have tried to follow some of the recommendations," she said. She explained that she's been on Accutane twice, which has lead to some seriously dry skin. "In one post, someone mentioned not washing his/her face, and for some reason, that jumped out at me to try." She added, "I haven't put facial soap on my face for six months and it has made a HUGE difference."

The Redditor shared her full skin care regimen, which is extremely simple and consists of just SPF in the morning and moisturizer at night, rinsing her face with a splash of lukewarm water and Garnier Micellar Water ($9).

While some may be horrified by the distinct lack of cleanser in this routine, micellar water is actually an excellent substitute for face wash. In a past interview about this liquid miracle, dermatologist Dr. Macrene Alexiades told POPSUGAR it contains small molecules called micelles, which are "nano-sized, single-layer fatty bubbles." Dr. Alexiades explained, "They are able to absorb other fats such as sebum and oils inside."

It's similar to using a cleansing oil: lipids bind to other lipids (in this case, micelles and sebum) to leave your complexion clean. Additionally, most micellar waters do not contain surfactants. These are cleansing agents that often include sulfates, which can aggressively strip the skin. So, you're replacing what could be harsh, drying soap with a gentle, soap-free cleanse. Even better, you don't need to rinse anything away - just add a few drops of micellar water to a tissue, wipe your face, and then you're done.

While replacing your face wash with micellar water might not be the best thing for your complexion (every face is different!), mollsballsss's results are inspiring enough to give this skin care switch-up a try.

7 DIY Wedding Makeup Hacks to Ensure You Look Flawless on Your Big Day

So, you're engaged to the love of your life. Congratulations! Many will say that you've already done the hardest part (finding your spouse), but anyone who's attempted to plan a wedding knows that's not quite true. After all, falling down the Pinterest rabbit hole can be utterly exhausting. In particular, we find the makeup ideas to be overwhelming, often completely unrealistic to DIY, and far more dramatic than most brides would attempt for the most photographed day in their lives.

Makeup artist Tedrick LaMar of Butterfly Studio Salon, who works frequently with brides, agreed that wedding-day makeup can be tricky for many.

"Bridal [beauty] should always be the best version of yourself," he said. "Don't go oversculpting, leave that for the night out at the club. Your makeup should be classic and clean."

He noted that the mood of the wedding and your gown's design could (and should!) inspire your beauty style for the big day. For example, you might want a more ethereal look with an A-line gown, but someone wearing a fitted style might be after more chiseled features and high-drama eye makeup. But overall, "you should look polished and not exaggerated."

Hey, if your goal is to look like the best version of yourself, you can always try DIYing your wedding makeup. It may not be the route for everyone, but some brides will not only find the makeup application process soothing on this potentially stressful day, but also enjoy having 100-percent control.

Whether you're hiring a professional makeup artist or doing your own glam, makeup trials are key. LaMar advises that brides-to-be do a few test runs around three months before the main event so they can decide on the final look. Don't be afraid to experiment so you can get a sense of what you love, whether that's a red lip or lots of lashes.

Now that you're feeling empowered to be your own wedding makeup artist, read on! We worked with LaMar to come up with seven genius bridal beauty hacks. While a few of these tips are time-honored tricks (like making your eyes look bigger with a pale liner), others are total insider secrets (ever heard of "strategic mattifying?" We hadn't!). Ahead, you'll find some supercrafty hacks that will guarantee you look positively flawless as you float down the aisle.

Badass Senator Smashes the Patriarchy by Breastfeeding in the Parliament Chamber

When Australian Senator Larissa Waters returned to work from maternity leave, she couldn't resist bringing her newborn daughter along for the ride - and the cute duo made history in the process.

On May 9, Waters - who is codeputy leader of the Green Party in Australia - became the first woman to breastfeed a baby in Parliament when she nourished her 2-month-old baby, Alia Joy, right there in the chamber. Back in February 2016, Parliament officially started allowing this as part of some "family friendly" rule updates, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, but it looks like Waters was the first trailblazer to take advantage of the updated protocols.

Waters shared a sweet photo of the significant moment on Twitter, captioning the snapshot, "So proud that my daughter Alia is the first baby to be breastfed in the federal Parliament! We need more #women & parents in Parli."

Just two months ago, on International Women's Day, Waters alluded to making this groundbreaking move in a Facebook status welcoming baby Alia into the world. "I'll be having a few more weeks off but will soon be back in parliament with this little one in tow . . . And yes, if she's hungry, she will be breastfed in the Senate chamber," she wrote. Keep smashin' that patriarchy, Waters!

Sen. Kamala Harris on Congressman's Tone-Deaf Healthcare Claim: "What the F*ck Is That?"

Senator Kamala Harris is not afraid to be blunt. The California lawmaker had some choice words about Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador's claim that "nobody dies" from lack of access to health care during her new interview on Pod Save America, a podcast started by former staffers of President Barack Obama.

"You might as well say, 'People don't starve because they don't have food,'" the California Senator said during the May 8 episode. "What the f*ck is that? What are you saying? How can you say that?"

Harris's remarks were hypercritical of the Congressman's mischaracterization of the proposed American Health Care Act, which would severely cut access to adequate health care and allow for the imposition of high premiums on people with preexisting conditions. As Harris pointed out, if people with preexisting conditions can no longer afford health insurance, they very well may die.

Following backlash against his outlandish claim, Representative Raul Labrador of Idaho walked back his comments. "I was responding to a false notion that the Republican health care plan will cause people to die in the streets, which I completely reject," Labrador wrote on Facebook.

Now that the ACHA has passed through the House, the Senate is expected to draft its own version of the bill. Speaking on the Democratic fight against the legislation, Harris told Pod Save America that lawmakers must speak the truth. "The truth is that these folks are playing politics with public health," Harris said. "The truth is that . . . if Republicans want people to lose their health care, then the Republicans needs to lose their jobs."

The Grungy "Brow Carving" Trend Takes Instagram Brows to the Next Level

Mario Dedivanovic, celebrity makeup artist and founding member of Kim Kardashian's glam team, definitively decided that the "Instagram brow" is out. You know the one we mean: severe, boxy arches with ombré tails and a generous application of lighter concealer to highlight around the brow. However, a new take on that old, less-than-flattering style has Instagram makeup artists inspired and us intrigued.

Writers at Allure discovered brow carving, an eye-catching new arch trend that was created by Austin, TX-based makeup artist Alexa Link. Where the edge of that harsh highlight would be on an Instagram brow, Link has created an unorthodox sculpting effect using meticulously blended shadows and liners. The overall look is haute Halloween meets editorial glam.

Of course, a makeup trend this captivating has earned Link some copycats, with many artists transforming Link's concept into their own iterations. We can't wait to see how brow carving evolves! Keep reading to see the unusual and edgy looks.

Jenna Bush Hager Says Her Dad Is a Feminist and Knows That's Kind of Hard to Believe

As she raises a family of her own, Jenna Bush Hager is reflecting on the way she was raised and its positive effect on her parenting approach. In a recent interview with People, the NBC correspondent and mom of two said, "I think the thing that my parents did so well and might surprise people, although I don't know why, is that they really wanted us to be curious, independent thinkers."

Moments later, Hager identified her father, former president George W. Bush, as a feminist. She said, "People laugh at this, but I think my dad was a feminist. He showed us that we could be whatever we wanted to be. I want my girls to feel that way. I want them to feel strong and capable and feel like they can conquer the world."

As Hager admitted herself, people might laugh in disbelief because the former president has never outright identified as a feminist, although his views have seemingly become more progressive in recent years.

At another point, Hager shared a sweet anecdote from her childhood. Along with her twin sister Barbara Pierce Bush, Hager said she "always felt sorry for the boys in [their] class because our dad led us to believe that we were the smartest, most capable kids out there."

The Real Reason Princess Diana Had a Public Funeral

Image Source: Getty / Anwar Hussein

Princess Diana's tragic death is one of the most heartbreaking news stories of the century; the 36-year-old former Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, and seven days later, she was honored with a public funeral that remains one of the most watched events in history. An estimated 2.5 billion people worldwide viewed or listened to the funeral, while another three million crowded the streets of London to follow the route of Diana's coffin from Kensington Palace to her final resting place at the Spencer family home in Althorp. While the event brought in many well-wishers - and celebrity guests like Tom Cruise, Hillary Clinton, Anna Wintour, and Steven Spielberg - Diana's funeral was originally intended to be a private affair attended only by members of the royal family and her closest relatives and friends. So how did it go from a personal event to a history-making phenomenon?

Image Source: Getty / Anwar Hussein

Just hours after Diana's death, her ex-husband Prince Charles arrived in Paris with her sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, to take her body back to the UK. Her passing was met with an extraordinary outpouring of love and grief from the public, and Londoners began leaving tributes of flowers, candles, photos, and personal notes outside her home at Kensington Palace. But the reactions from the royal family had a different impact: they were at their Summer residence at Balmoral Castle at the time of Diana's death, and their initial decision not to return to London (nor to mourn the princess publicly) led to much criticism.

There was also allegedly a very heated discussion about Diana's funeral arrangements. Britain's Channel Four news reported that Queen Elizabeth II had insisted that Diana's ceremony be private, but that Charles put up "ferocious resistance." A senior official close to the circle said that it was "made very clear to Prince Charles" that Diana's body "was on no account to be brought to any of the royal palaces," adding, "The queen's desire was for her to be taken to a private mortuary and then to a private funeral." But when Charles traveled to Paris to pick up Diana's body, he spoke to then-Prime Minister Tony Blair, and the two agreed that Diana should be laid out at St. James's Palace with a public funeral held at Westminster Abbey, the same place she and Charles married in 1981. Between Charles's tenacious argument, the obvious emotion from people around the world, and an intervention from Tony Blair, Elizabeth eventually relented. Five days after Diana's death, she came back to London and acknowledged the public's outpouring of grief in a live video from Buckingham Palace, and the following day, Diana's public funeral took place.

Starting at 9:08 a.m. from Kensington Palace, Diana's coffin was taken on a route through the streets of London, along Hyde Park to St. James's Palace, where thousands waited in line to sign a public condolence book and where Prince Harry and Prince William joined the procession alongside their father, grandfather, and uncle, Earl Spencer. The coffin, accompanied by eight Welsh Guards, passed Buckingham Palace, where members of the royal family waited outside; Queen Elizabeth II bowed her head as it went by.

Diana's ceremony at Westminster Abbey began at 11 a.m. and was attended by government officials, foreign dignitaries, and Hollywood celebrities. Elton John performed "Candle in the Wind," which was rewritten for Diana by Bernie Taupin, who originally penned the song in 1973 to honor Marilyn Monroe. Just six weeks before her death, Diana was photographed comforting Elton at the funeral of their friend, fashion designer Gianni Versace. Diana's brother, Charles, gave an infamous eulogy in which he admonished both the royal family and the global press for their treatment of his sister.

Diana was buried privately later that day. The only people present were a close friend, her mother and siblings, Prince Charles, William, Harry, and a clergyman. She wore a black dress by Catherine Walker and held on to a rosary given to her by Mother Teresa (who, sadly, died the same week as Diana). She was laid to rest on a small island in the middle of a lake at Althorp, her family's estate. Charles Spencer decided that her gravesite was better off there than at their family vault in the local church, because it could be more easily cared for and offered better privacy for William and Harry to visit. The island where Diana's grave sits is accessed by a path of 36 trees - one for every year of her life - and black swans and white roses float in the water. Despite the drama surrounding Princess Diana's funeral plans, the public event still has an impact on all of those who watched and attended it and speaks volumes about her influence around the world.

Nicole Kidman Gets So Embarrassed When Ellen Plays Her Oscars Clap on Loop

Nicole Kidman become a trending meme for her awkward clapping at the Oscars this year, and Ellen DeGeneres just won't let her forget it. During her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, the Big Little Lies star got incredibly embarrassed as the host played the infamous video of her clapping on loop in the background. After trying her hardest to laugh off the mishap, she reiterated that the reason she was clapping so weird was because she was trying to preserve the expensive diamonds she was wearing on her fingers. She even demonstrated for the audience that she actually knows how to clap normally. Ellen then got one more hilarious dig in when she encouraged her entire audience to do the awkward Nicole clap.
