Don't Even Ask the Dishes - Go Get The Grey Stuff at Disneyland ASAP
"Try the grey stuff, it's delicious!" - a factual statement made by a fictional character in the song "Be Our Guest" from the Disney renaissance classic Beauty and the Beast. Disneyland park now features the film's famed dessert, and you can get it at the Red Rose Taverne - what used to be the Pinocchio-themed Village Haus - in Fantasyland.
While gray goop may not seem so appetizing upon first sight, know that this whipped goodness is white chocolate (and what I assume is Oreo) mousse, surrounding a red velvet cake that is filled with raspberry preserves and a whole raspberry atop a scalloped tea cookie (we tasted notes of almond and lemon). Every bite was sensational. Check it out.
Worth the literal hour (yes, hour) line? Absolutely. We enjoyed this cake more than some rides at Disneyland. I would absolutely go back for this, as it is now hands-down my favorite Disney dessert.
Since we were standing around for approximately 60 minutes, we tried to get a little more out of the experience and went for the Lemon Rose cake, too. While we devoured every bite of this treat as well, it didn't quite hold a(n enchanted) candle to The Grey Stuff. There was a lot going on: some kind of solid but light not-quite-panna-cotta, not-quite-meringue exterior, unclear colored topping, lemon custard, strawberry rose preserves or jam of some sort, and at the bottom some malt crunch (?). All the tastes were good; it just seemed a little disjointed. Very experimentally French, so bonus points for being on theme.

The Surprising Stat of People Who Regret a Tattoo, Plus Cringe-Worthy Stories to Match
A random day two years ago, I spontaneously decided that I was going to get a tattoo after work. I had never even thought of a potential design until just hours before, but thank god, I still love it to this day. Unfortunately, a shocking number of people didn't have the same luck as I did, and according to a survey conducted by Advanced Dermatology, 78 percent of respondents admitted to regretting at least one piece of ink.
One of the biggest reasons? Age. Almost half of participants reported they were the under the age of 20 when they got their questionable tattoo. Seventy-five percent also didn't plan enough beforehand and took the plunge as soon as a few hours (like me) to a few weeks. The most regrettable design based on data was found to be tribal designs, with hearts and roses close behind.
When I asked POPSUGAR employees to share their own tattoo horror stories, they backed up these statistics a little too well. Check out what and why my colleagues regret getting inked on their bodies.
- "My friend Lily and I got the word 'promise' tattooed on our pinky fingers. One of my more regrettable life decisions for sure - right up there with seeing a dentist in Mumbai and that other time I decided to get bangs. We got the tattoos in high school, after a long night of drinking at a very questionable Thai restaurant. I also woke up with a stray cat in my bed that morning and I named her Cleopatra. I guess in an inebriated stupor, you think getting pinky promise tattoos is just so unwittingly clever . . . I spent the next day icing my hand and Yelping laser removal doctors in the greater LA area. Oh, did I mention it was in Comic Sans?"
- "Yes, I regret mine immensely! I got it while studying abroad in London, I spent a weekend in Edinburgh, Scotland, and got it done on a whim. The tattoo artist (to be polite) screwed it up and a part of it isn't even. Needless to say, I've lived with two small teardrops ever since . . . Why teardrops, I have no idea, you'll have to ask my 20-year-old self!"
- "I feel zero connection to the dragon tattoo on my lower back. First, let me say that it's not exactly a 'tramp stamp' because it's not even on my lower back. It's more mid-to-low back, which is even crappier. There are also two stars surrounding the dragon, which look like they belong to the barbwire family. I don't regret it. I just don't feel anything for it. I never have. It was a spontaneous decision I made in high school while walking on Venice Boardwalk. That part I like. That I used to be spontaneous."
- "I thought I really wanted an infinity sign tattoo, and I still completely value my state of mind and reasons for getting it. But I hated it the moment I got it. First of all, it was ugly and not at all like the simple design I imagined in my mind. Second, it was on my wrist, which meant that everyone always wanted to hear the story. Key takeaway: Don't just waltz into a cheap, beachside tattoo parlor without a solid plan. I always think that if I had waited even six months, I would have gotten a better design somewhere else on my body and would still have it and love it to this day. Instead, 10 years later, I am still in the long process of getting it removed."
- "I have many tattoos but only regret one of them. I got my first tattoo when I turned 18 and insisted the artist use my drawing of a flower and only use black ink. The artist was first starting out and it was just a terrible tattoo, really dark and heavy. At the time I had no idea who my artist was, he was fairly new to his career. Fast forward to many years later, I'm in a shop watching a friend get tattooed by a very well known artist (he's been on tattoo shows on TLC etc.). I chat him up and tell him that I have this awful tattoo I got when I was young. He asks to see it and immediately names the place where it was done and proclaims that he remembers doing this (it was one of his first)!!! He agrees it's terrible and offers to cover it up. We decided on a design (more flowers) and I reluctantly agree - it's much larger than I had anticipated, but he says it will have to be like this because of what I'm covering up. He does his thing but apparently took the liberty of adding in some background design not on the original sketch. Needless to say I hate it (it's my only full-color tattoo) and will probably get it removed once and for all. He's supertalented, I have just had bad luck with him."
- "Tramp stamp. Was too young to even get one legally (I used my older sister's ID). Walked into a shop with a friend and on a whim said, 'let's get tattoos today!' Picked a tribal design that meant absolutely nothing to me (yes, just picked one, haha) and that was that. Almost 20 years later and I'm almost done with all of my laser tattoo removal sessions!!! It'll be like it never happened."
- "OK, so I have a nine-legged octopus. It was my first tattoo, I got it when I was 21 and first moved to SF. You know, if you don't count the legs, it looked great on paper. Plus, my tattoo artist was a junkie, and that is never a good combination. So, I gave him a bunch of comps to look at; it was kind of an amalgam of a bunch of different pics. I was at a party months later. Months! When I found out, my friend, who always f*cks around, counted the legs by tapping my back shoulder, and said, 'nine legs, your octopus has nine legs.' I didn't believe him obvs, as he's always f*cking around like that but something in his tone . . . I ran to the bathroom and counted them myself. Yup . . . I have a 'novem-pus' on my back. Can't say I regret it, I love the story too much."

6 Documentaries That Will Shut Down Any Climate-Change Denier
Given President Donald Trump's denial of climate change and his recent action of pulling the US out of the Paris Climate Accord, now is probably an apt time to educate yourself on the environment. It's even more important when you realize that the present Environmental Protection Agency director is a climate science denier - and he's quite open about it.
Global warming is neither an engineered fallacy nor really even debated at this point. There is a broad consensus in the scientific community that climate change is occurring and heavily accelerated by humans.
An easy way to get educated on the matter? By watching a documentary, of course. We've compiled a list of environmental documentaries you can learn a lot from. Read on to see.

Here's What Happened When SNL's Writers Tried to Make Trump Play the Giving Tree
Considering how much material the Trump administration gives Saturday Night Live to work with each week, writing for the show isn't an easy task. HuffPost talked to two Saturday Night Live writers about writing during an election season - and what it was like working with Donald Trump when he hosted the show in November 2015, in the middle of the campaign.
The two writers are Tim Herlihy, who was with show from 1993 to 2000 and was present for the 1996 and 2000 elections, and Bryan Tucker. Tucker is still with SNL, after joining in 2005, and a writer for the 2008, 2012, and the 2016 elections. Herlihy, who covered tamer elections, spoke about how political sketches didn't necessarily "have to dominate the show" as they do now. "Now, if they did a Trump-less show, people would go bananas. That's a lot of pressure to have [political material]," Herlihy said. Tucker said this election was especially "exceptional because so many people were paying attention to it, and because passions were so deep and there were just a lot of characters, specifically Donald Trump being the biggest character of them all."
During the election, Tucker contended that the show tried to parody both Hillary Clinton and Trump. However, once the person elected is in power, it's the show's responsibility to make fun of them. "Our show is always trying to be a big tent, but before, we're making a very concerned effort to parody both sides because America is paying attention so much to both sides," Tucker. "But afterwards, when one side has so much power and one side has so little, we go after the people who have that power. We punch up."
Herlihy, who worked with previous presidential candidates on the show, thought of Trump as a "joke candidate" and not someone who would win the Republican nomination. "He's a public figure, and nobody thought there was a prayer of him being elected at that point," Herlihy said. Tucker, however, was able to see how Trump operated when it came to deciding what jokes he would make and wouldn't. According to Tucker, Trump only came with one security person, and decided everything himself.
"When we would present him an idea, he would just go from his gut and say, "I like that" or "I don't like that." Sometimes we could persuade him. Sometimes he would lean out of the door and ask his security guy, "Do you think this is funny? Do you think this is a good idea?" But that was, to me, an insight into him that I hadn't gotten before: He really makes decisions by himself, and although he had people he was talking to throughout the week, there was very little back-and-forth with other people."
The only sketch Trump wouldn't do is one that involved him playing the Giving Tree. He didn't enjoy standing in a tree with his head sticking out of it and the sketch itself didn't get many laughs.
This year's Saturday Night Live is now over, but the show's record ratings clearly indicate viewers aren't sick of political sketches.

You Won't Find This Disneyland Pineapple Treat at the Tiki Room
My favorite Disneyland treat has always been a frosty pineapple float just outside the Tiki Room - which just so happens to be my favorite spot at Disneyland. Like, c'mon, where else can you enjoy shade from the sun and air conditioning in the scorching landscape of central Orange County while being serenaded by animatronic birds and enjoying a sweet mocktail?
Rumor had it that there was another rivaling pineapple treat on the streets of Disney: pineapple cotton candy. The moment I got wind of tropical-flavored sugar that was available for purchase, I was ready for the hunt. Niche Disney treats like this - take the Star Wars churros, for instance - are highly coveted and typically only in certain locations in the park. The cotton candy in question? Only available in Disney California Adventure . . . and only at Paradise Pier, near the Little Mermaid and California Screamin' rides.
After stalking this island-inspired dessert like a seagull hunting a bag of chips on the beach, I came out victorious just outside the entrance to California Screamin', behind Mickey's Fun Wheel (note: I came upon a sold-out cotton candy stand outside Ariel's Undersea Adventure ride, where I was told there were no more pineapple cotton candies, but nevertheless I persisted).
The verdict: they're INSANE. The taste pays homage to a certain Hawaiian refreshment from Adventureland in Disneyland park, but in light-as-air cotton candy form. Even if you're not a typical cotton candy fan, you should try this variety, as the pineapple flavor isn't too fake or cloying.

Mom's Plea About the Overlooked Pool Danger That Almost Killed Her Girl
When it comes to pool safety, teaching your child how to swim isn't enough. Even if your child knows to walk on the pool deck and only swim when a lifeguard or adult is watching, there's another serious danger that's often overlooked. But after Alex Morgan's daughter almost died while on a family vacation, this furious mom is warning parents of another danger to look out for before their kiddos hit the pools this Summer.
When 6-year-old Darcey was enjoying a dip in the pool, she swam by a waterfall water feature. While the child's head was underwater, her hair got caught in the pool's filter and she got stuck. Unable to reach the surface, Darcey nearly drowned. "She was kept under the water for over two minutes," Alex shared on Facebook. "Some incredibly brave people saved our little girl's life that day. Her hair was pulled and pulled before it was ripped. Darcey was unconscious and had to be given CPR at the poolside."
Darcey was taken to the hospital, where she was kept overnight for low oxygen levels and fluid in her right lung. "This was the worst day of our lives. We are still suffering to come to terms with it all now but also feel incredibly lucky to still have our beautiful, brave little girl," Alex wrote. "Myself and Gareth don't want any other parents or family members to go through what we experienced that day. We will never get over what happened but if this post can raise some awareness, save someone's life, then we will be happy."
According to Elizabeth Klinefelter, Pool Safely campaign lead, parents should be aware of drain entrapment dangers at both public and private pools. "The federal government's drowning prevention program strongly recommends that children be taught to stay away from drains, suction outlets, and filters in swimming pools and spas," Elizabeth told POPSUGAR. "Children's hair - along with limbs, jewelry, or bathing suits - can get stuck in a drain or suction opening. In addition, parents and caregivers should never allow children to enter a pool or spa that has a loose, broken, or missing drain cover."
She also recommends that parents always locate the emergency vacuum shutoff before getting in a spa so that they know where and how to free someone if stuck.
The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act was mandated in 2008 after a 7-year-old drowned due to a drain cover, and this federal law requires that all public pools, including hotels, schools, and apartment buildings, have the safer drain covers. According to a new Consumer Product Safety Commission report, there have still been 17 victims of entrapment from 2012-2016 and the majority of these cases involved kids.
"Children under the age of 15 are at risk of experiencing an entrapment incident, with higher fatality rates occurring in residential pools and spa settings," Julie Walsh, Pool Safely associate vice president, told POPSUGAR. "Parents can never be too vigilant when their children are in or around the water to ensure everyone has a safer swimming experience."
Elizabeth also pointed out that residential pools are encouraged to install them but are not currently required to. This eye-opening video explains not only why pool drains can be so dangerous for kids but also that many pools across the country still have the flat drain covers and not the antientrapment version.
Every parent should take a minute to watch this video before their child's next trip to the pool:

Science Shows Striped Shirts Can Give You Headaches
From our pants to our beach towels, our dresses, and everything in between, stripes have been a staple in our wardrobes for as long as we can remember, but a new study has found some alarming effects the pattern could have on our health. Researchers from the University Medical Centre (UMC) Utrecht in the Netherlands found that striped patterns can trigger activity in the brain that causes headaches, migraines, and in severe cases, epilepsy. The study saw that parallel lines triggered strong "gamma oscillations" in the brain in a way that other patterns did not.
But before you run home to throw away your favorite striped shirt, it's important to point out that it's not only striped clothing that could be harming your health. There are a ton of other everyday items around you causing this tension.
"Our findings imply that in designing buildings, it may be important to avoid the types of visual patterns that can activate this circuit and cause discomfort, migraines, or seizures," said Dr. Dora Hermes, a researcher at UMC. "Even perfectly healthy people may feel modest discomfort from the images that are most likely to trigger seizures in photosensitive epilepsy."
Migraines are something that so many people deal with, but when the ibuprofen stops working, avoiding parallel lines should be the next step.

Use This Trick to Get a Supercharged Boost From Coffee Before a Race
Need an extra boost before a 5K, half-marathon, or triathlon? Make your coffee work harder for you with this trick we picked up from Disneyland executive chef and Ironman triathlon competitor Chris Faulkner. He cuts caffeine for three weeks leading up to race-day - completely. Seriously. No coffee, no matcha - nothing. On race-day, he makes a coffee protein smoothie, which he told us feels like rocket fuel since his body hasn't had caffeine in so long.
While you're heightening the performance-enhancing, calorie-burning effects of coffee, you're also going to reap the, eh, . . . digestive . . . benefits of introducing caffeine into your caffeine-cleansed system. What we're trying to say is you'll definitely get things "moving" in the early a.m. before your race starts, ensuring you won't have any porta-potty incidents on the course.
You don't have to run a half-marathon to use this trick, either! Try it before a long run or a challenging workout, and see if you feel the effects after going cold turkey and then adding coffee back in.

Grool! The Mean Girls Burn Book Palette Is Becoming a Reality
Storybook Cosmetics has teased some particularly magical collaborations in the past, like its Wizard Wand and Rose makeup brushes, and the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory palette. The enchanted brand's most recent announcement, though, is pretty "grool": the line is officially launching a Mean Girls Burn Book Eye Shadow Palette this Fall.
If you're a longtime fan of Storybook Cosmetics, your breasts didn't have to sense this collaboration was on its way, because it was among one of the first ideas they posted on Storybook's Instagram account. (And has since been deleted.)
"We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Paramount Licensing on Mean Girls," said Missy Maynard, cofounder of the brand. "We're total Mean Girls fanatics, and this eye shadow palette is one of the first palettes we dreamed up! When we secured licensing for it we were ecstatic!"
There will be 12 shades available in the palette, although exact names and colors haven't been divulged yet. When we originally covered the idea back in October, the concept was an eight-pan palette, featuring shadows inspired by quotes in the movie, like green and blue shadows named "Army Pants" and "Flip Flops." Other names included at the time: "Glen Coco," "You Can't Sit With Us," "So Fetch," and the pink "Wednesday." It's cool to see that Storybook's idea is finally becoming a reality with an even bigger palette than initially imagined!
While we don't have photos or names just yet, one thing's for sure: you'll get your own Burn Book replica filled with pigmented shadows. And there has to be a few shades of pink involved, right? How cool would it be if it came with a feathered pen-inspired eye shadow brush? Fingers crossed it drops on October 3.
We'll keep you updated when we learn more, so stay tuned!
Exclusive First Reveal of Huda Kattan's 12 Lip Strobe Metallic Glosses
In the midst of an over-saturated, holographic beauty world, Huda Kattan managed to launch a collection of metallic strobing lip gloss collection that feels fresh. The entrepreneur and Instagram star looked for inspiration from both the past and the future when she developed her Lip Strobes, a 12-shade range launching mid June ($18 each, shophudabeauty.com). The hues play into both the frosty shades of the '90s and iridescent unicorn-inspired products of 2017.
"Right now people are obsessed with things that seem out of this world and give them some type of surprise," she told POPSUGAR via email. "The idea of something iridescent or duo chromatic seems a little mysterious and unique. They are kind of super '90s meets the future."
The colors may play into the existing trend, but each feels unique. There are both sheer and full-coverage shimmer formulas. Expect a range that varies from Enchanted, a pale pink with a pearlescent finish, to Fearless, a sparkly pigmented fuchsia.
"I am obsessed with duo chromes and iridescence right now!" she said of how the concept was born. "We were inspired when we were creating our Melted Strobe for our 3D Highlighters. We were just playing with shimmers and glitters and somehow this was created."
Huda went on: "For the colors we wanted something that would almost change in some lights or on top of certain colors. All of the glosses have serious shimmer, some are opaque and full of pigment and shine, while others are duo chromatic and iridescent."
The vlogger admitted she is not always a fan of lip glosses, so she was extra careful when crafting these. Don't expect the sticky, goopy ones you actually wore back when *NSYNC was together. "I hate gloss, and I am super fussy with what I wear," she said. "This feels so luxurious and hydrating while wearing. It's not sticky and the strobes feel super comfortable on the lips."
"I hate gloss, and I am super fussy with what I wear. This feels so luxurious and hydrating."
She even perfected the applicator to enhance the cozy wearability. "The strobes also have a precision, heart-shaped wand which glides on an even coat for a luminous finish giving you an extra smooth application," she added.
When it came to naming, she simply picked adjectives that would cater to your moods. "The names were inspired by our Liquid Mattes - we thought of it as the next step to your pout," Huda explained. "So we thought we would make it a way to describe the personality behind the Liquid Matte. So you could be a Ritzy (Lip Strobe) Trophy Wife (Liquid Matte), or a Shameless (Lip Strobe) Trendsetter (Liquid Matte) and really feel something towards the look you floss."
Though we knew it would be like choosing between children, we asked which color is her favorite. "This is so hard but I'd have to say that I am obsessed with Snobby," Huda revealed. "It's one of the shades which took the longest to create, and I'd bathe in it if I could! It's a semi-sheer pink shade with gold and pink big shimmers!"
According to Huda, the best way to wear the Lip Strobe is to glide it across your pout, and then take some off with a tissue. "You can remove the gloss by blotting off the excess, which will leave you with a glistening shimmer without the gloss." She also recommends layering it on thoroughly for an intensely pigmented, shiny style, or dabbing it in just the center of your pout for a subtle contoured effect.
Huda even tried wearing them on her eyelids, which she teased on social media! "I never realized this would work so well until a day before our campaign shoot!" she enthused. "They look ahhhmazing on the lids, and you can wear them on top of a shadow or just as is. For easy application, a small flat brush works nicely or even your fingers will do the trick. I would only recommend adding a small amount and for short periods, since it is a gloss and will move around." Oreo O's Are Returning to Store Shelves After 10 Long Years!
Oreo O's haven't been on store shelves since 2007, but they're finally making a comeback! The iconic cookies and cream cereal from the '90s will hit store shelves again in June, a whole 10 years later. Originally launched in 1998 (with the throwback commercial to prove it), Oreo O's were hands down one of the best cereals for kids (and let's be honest, adults) in the early 2000s. The miniature, Oreo-flavored chocolate cereal will make a much-appreciated return, and it promises to be just as delicious as you remember.
A spokesperson said in a statement, "Fans of the iconic OREO O's cereal will find the product has stayed true to its roots, with OREO cookie bits and a crème coating combined to make the chocolaty, crunchy O's that can be enjoyed in a bowl with milk, or straight out of the box." Starting on June 23, Oreo O's will be sold exclusively at Walmart for three months. Commence the freak-out as you discover it for yourself in the cereal aisle, and prepare to stock up!
This Model Said "I Do" in a Pink Wedding Gown, Then Made 1 Simple Style Switch For the Reception
For some brides, the more extravagant the wedding gown, the better. Yulia Saparniiazova's bridal look surely falls into this category. The model walked down the aisle in a stunning pink design by Malyarova Olga and said her "I dos" under a sunny sky. We could hardly keep our eyes off the dress, taking in the embellishment and bead work that decorated the bodice and train of the gown. What was more impressive, however, was how Yulia wore the dress to her reception.
While most would change into another look, she simply removed the detachable train to reveal a simple beaded white mini underneath. For the party, Yulia added a silky wrap around the dress, creating a longer, body-hugging gown. We can see why this crafty style hack works. When a dress looks this good, you want to wear it twice (and be able to dance in it!). Read on to see the dramatic transformation for yourself.

NASA's New Mission Involves Traveling to the Sun and People are Volunteering as Tribute
NASA is flying beyond the moon and headed to the stars - or at least, the biggest star closest to Earth. NASA announced on May 31 that the Parker Solar Probe will fly through the sun's atmosphere and hopefully answer questions about how stars work. Needless to say, the trip directly into the sun launched quite a few darkly funny reactions online.
The Parker Solar Probe mission, which will launch sometime in Summer 2018, is the first spacecraft to go to the sun. The probe will travel around the sun at a speed of 430,000 miles per hour and face the cool temperature of 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit. To get to the Sun's atmosphere, the probe will "use Venus' gravity during seven flybys over seven years" to get closer. The purpose of the mission is to have the probe analyze solar wind and see what moves it. Understanding the sun and solar wind will help researchers learn more about stars and more importantly, see how solar wind can affect Earth, satellites, and astronauts.
A day before NASA revealed the Parker Solar Probe mission, the Associated Press tweeted that the agency would make an announcement on it. The tweet's wording immediately gave the internet a few ideas on who should "fly directly into the sun's atmosphere."

You're Going to Want to Copy Every Inch of Jamie Chung's Backyard Oasis
Jamie Chung's skills extend beyond acting. This newlywed also has a knack for decorating and entertaining. Case in point: her stunning backyard. The Once Upon a Time star recently joined forces with reasonably priced online home retailer Joss & Main to give her outdoor space a swoon-worthy makeover. After you see it, you'll understand why Jamie loves throwing al fresco parties.
Her big tip for outdoor entertaining? "Set the time for arrival an hour or two before the sun sets or make sure there is a shaded area for your guests and make sure there is plenty of seating!" It's all too easy to forget that the sun greatly influences the temperature, so planning around this is an all-star hostess move. Jamie adds that she always has bug repellant candles and SPF on hand to keep everyone comfortable.
See all the patio makeover pictures and get the design details in the slideshow ahead, then shop Jamie's same products over on Joss & Main.

Ashley Fought Stress-Induced Weight Gain and Lost 95 Pounds in 11 Months
Stress caused Ashley Witter's weight to reach an unhealthy range, and it wasn't until she got a tip from a family member that she realized she needed to get help.
Ashley: Before
After enduring some difficult life changes and dealing with a high-stress job, she turned to food as a comfort. Her aunt told her about a weight-loss treatment center called Structure House, where Ashley was able to lose almost 100 pounds in less than a year. But to her, it was less about pounds lost and more about how she felt - she wanted the "old Ashley" back. She got what she hoped for, and then some. It took a lot of work, but Ashley quit her job, took matters into her own hands, and found happiness and health in the process.
POPSUGAR: What made you decide to start your weight-loss journey?
Ashley Witter: I hit my breaking point in my high-level corporate job working numerous hours, not eating throughout the day, and not sleeping at night. I was turning to food, wine, cheese, and whatever I could find late at night. My energy level had depleted, and I had gained close to 40 pounds in a year and couldn't do it anymore. I was sick, so I finally decided enough was enough and put in my resignation at my job. I had to find my old self again and get better. That's when my family suggested I go to Structure House.
PS: What do you think contributed to your weight gain?
AW: STRESS! The first thing I was taught when I went to Structure House was why we overeat as humans. The three reasons are stress, boredom, and habit. I was stressed all the time. My cortisol levels were off the grid, and my metabolism was suffering. I was skipping meals and not eating the "right" foods. I was tired, had low energy, and wasn't getting the physical activity that I used to. Gradually, over the course of probably four years, I continued to gain more and more. The more stressed out I got, the more weight I packed on.
PS: What drew you to Structure House specifically?
AW: I chose Structure House because my aunt had been twice and told me about what a wonderful and safe place it was. I didn't think I had a problem - denial at its best - but I knew I needed help. My family tried to kindly tell me I had a weight problem and that they were worried, but I didn't want to listen. I felt like, "This was my life and these are the cards I was dealt." Once I hit my breaking point, I knew that I needed to go to Structure House and get help. My family was fully supportive of my decision and helped me along the way.
PS: Had you tried other methods of weight loss before Structure House?
AW: Unlike others, I never really struggled with my weight until the past four or five years. Bad breakups, high-level corporate jobs, and simply life itself began to take a toll on me. I was always very active, played sports, and loved the outdoors, but yes, I tried some weight-loss methods such as powdered shakes, staying away from gluten, quick-fix type of things. Besides losing some immediate water weight, none of these diets ever worked or were something that could be maintained. Plus, when I cut my portions too much, I would hardly have the energy to work out. I was doing it all wrong.
"The more stressed out I got, the more weight I packed on."
PS: What's your favorite way to work out?
AW: Again, I have always loved sports my entire life and even when I was heavier I kept pushing to be active. I love backpacking, hiking, kayaking, snow skiing - pretty much anything outdoors. I have found in the past year that I really love boot camps and circuit training.
Ashley: After
PS: What's your weekly exercise schedule?
AW: I was taught by Structure House to get at least 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise a week. I do just that. I mix my workouts between cardio, strength training, and flexibility exercises. I hit the gym maybe three times a week as well as doing a group bootcamp class, running on the treadmill, or hitting the weights doing arm/leg workouts and repetitions. I love yoga, so I try to do a class or so a week of hot yoga. I wear a Fitbit and try every day to get at least 10,000 steps a day. That means when I am at work, I get up and move - this is key. On the weekends I am hiking, kayaking, or running. I also allow my body to recover, so I believe in letting your body have rest days as well.
PS: How do you keep workouts exciting?
AW: I am all about changing it up and keeping it exciting. I love to exercise in general, so I find hiking and backpacking are my favorite activities. You can enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and not even realize sometimes that you are getting a great workout. I have also had fun running 5Ks with my boyfriend. He is active as well so we help keep each other accountable, while having fun at the same time.
PS: How much weight have you lost?
AW: Since my stay at Structure House in October 2015, I have lost 95 pounds in 11 months and have maintained that weight. My weight has plateaued, so now I am more focused on building lean body mass.
PS: What was the first big difference, other than the number on the scale, that really made you feel proud and excited?
AW: For me, honestly, it wasn't really about the pounds lost, but more that I felt so much better. I came back to life again, and my energy was back. I found the old "Ashley" again, and that is what made me so proud. I didn't ever think that would be possible.
PS: How do you track your weight loss?
AW: Structure House gave us a diary to record our food. When I left the facility, I continued to use my diary and maintain my 1,400-calorie intake. Every time I finished a book, I would call Structure House and have them send me a new one. I don't use my diary much anymore because I have a pretty good hold on what I am taking in terms of calories, but if I ever feel like I am slipping, I start recording again. It was a great way to hold me accountable for what I was eating.
PS: What's a typical day of meals and snacks?
AW: I follow myplate.com pretty much for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I make sure at every meal that I have a protein, plenty of veggies, fruit, a dairy, and carbs. I eat nutrient-dense food that keeps me full. I have eliminated as much salt as possible and make healthy choices. I am pretty consistent on what I eat - lots of veggies (I love roasted brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes), lean meat, berries, Greek yogurt, and 100-percent whole-wheat options. I stay away from processed foods as much as possible. I read labels to make sure foods are low in trans and saturated fat and low in sugar and sodium. When I snack, I usually have a Kind bar or something simple made with whole ingredients.
Ashley: Before and After
PS: Do you count calories?
AW: Even though I have lost 95 pounds, I am still mindful of the calories that I am taking in. I am mindful and aware, and that is what has helped me be successful in my journey. Most people do not even realize the amount of calories they are taking in. So yes, I do keep track. I stick between 1,400-1,500 calories per day of nutrient-dense foods. If I eat something that is not as healthy, I am aware and only eat a little. Moderation is key in weight loss. Making change takes time, so having a treat every now and then is not a bad thing.
PS: What are the healthy staples that are always in your fridge?
AW: I eat egg-white omelets almost every morning, so I stock my fridge with good veggies and fruit. I buy a lot of chicken and lean meats so I have a protein. I buy a lot of 100-percent whole-wheat sandwich thins and wraps. I love avocados and salsa. I pretty much mirror my food choices based off of what was cooked for me at Structure House.
PS: How do you strategize for meals out?
AW: Again, I am pretty boring, so I eat the same thing a lot. I am pretty consistent with my meals, so it hardly seems like work anymore. When I go out to eat, I research the restaurant first to figure out the healthy options I can choose from. I love Longhorns because they have a calorie counter for all the food. I can have an incredible meal for 430 calories.
"It wasn't really about the pounds lost . . . I came back to life again and my energy was back. I found the old Ashley."
PS: Do you use a fitness tracker? Which one, and how do you think it helped you?
AW: I use a Fitbit. I have bought one for all my family members as well. It has helped me a lot, plus it is a great thing for everyone. I love that Fitbit allows you to compete against each other. My dad is now super competitive with my brother and me. It's a win for everyone. Also, I know when my steps are down that it is time to move.
PS: What role did Structure House play in your journey? Would you recommend it?
AW: Structure House changed my life! I have told this to all the staff: I wouldn't be the person I am today without them. They gave me the tools to regain my life back. Not only am I back to my old self, but I have never felt better. I now work at a job I love, and I got asked to teach the Health Coaching certificate program at an accredited university in Georgia. My work lets me run weight-loss challenges, and I am creating my own health coaching website to help others. I met an incredible man, and I just couldn't be happier. I have realized that you have to love yourself before you can love others. I can't thank Structure House enough.
PS: What advice do you have for anyone starting out on a weight-loss journey?
AW: Take a leap of faith and make yourself happy. You have one life to live, and make it the best it can be. There is no reason to go through life unhappy and unhealthy. We are all in charge of our own destiny, so why not make this life the best it can be? Also, you are not alone. So many people struggle with weight issues, but there is hope - I promise.

7 Ways to Make $50 in a Day
If you're thinking of adding some money to your rainy-day fund, then there are a few ways to make a quick buck. But making money isn't always easy, and some of these tasks are time-consuming, so be sure to pick ones that you don't mind doing. Here are some suggestions:
- Plan a vacation: There are people looking for help with vacation planning on TaskRabbit, an website that matches up task-doers with task-givers. One of the tasks that you can do from home is help out with vacation planning, which can mean hours of research. Some of the listings charge anywhere from $13 for help with finding plane tickets to about $62 for help with planning a two-week trip to Europe.
- Clean someone's home: Cleaning a home is another way to make a quick buck, and there are a number of cleaning tasks available on TaskRabbit that can go for over $100, depending on how extensive the chore is.
- Deliver items: Have a car? Maybe you can earn $50 or more by helping someone move items. My friend recently paid a TaskRabbiter $50 to collect a cabinet for her. Check out the delivery tasks that are doable on the site. You can even earn money by helping people unpack their stuff.
- Sell used items: If there are items you need to get rid of, then try selling them on sites such as Craigslist, eBay, or Amazon. You can also bring them to thrift stores to see if you can get anything for them.
- Do 10 Fiverr tasks: Fiverr is a website where people can buy and sell services for $5. You can offer to do services like draw pictures, give advice, or perform silly acts on video.
- Rent out your couch: I've seen people renting out their couches on Airbnb, and for $50 a night in some cities.
- Participate in surveys: Participate in surveys to make extra money. Sometimes all you have to do is answer a few questions. There are plenty of legitimate opportunities that you can find through Craigslist. Of course, there are plenty of scams, as well, so be careful when responding to these listings.
Dig In, Duchess! These Are Kate Middleton's Favorite Foods
What does the Duchess of Cambridge eat? The short answer is: pretty much everything - just not all in the same day. Countless stories have been crafted about how much or how little she consumes, with speculation about her diet and assorted far-fetched theories about how she retains her slim physique. However, just a little digging reveals exactly what kinds of food the duchess likes, and - surprise! - it's pretty much the same as the rest of us.
Why It's Time to Celebrate Average-Size Women
This post was written by our POPSUGAR UK editor and originally appeared on POPSUGAR Fashion UK. Unless otherwise stated, all dress sizes referenced are UK sizes. US sizes are approximately UK minus 4 (e.g., UK 14 = US 10).

Some have suggested that 2014 was "the year of plus-size." To others, it was nothing more than a token nod in the right direction: a couple of models over a size 10 featured in big campaigns, a couple of celebrity collections that didn't stop at a size 14 (see Kelly Brook for Simply Be, pictured above), some nice things said about Melissa McCarthy during award season. It's true that we are a long way from this industry ever truly embracing the breadth of shapes and sizes of modern women, but every step in the right direction is a good one. And 2015 got off to a good start with the news that models Ashley Graham and Robyn Lawley will appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue - even if one of those is an ad, not an editorial.
The real strides toward body acceptance in the world of fashion have come through the blogosphere. Plus-size blogs are thriving, particularly in the US and the UK, where bloggers are collaborating on fashion lines, appearing on TV, and modeling for global brands. The Instagram hashtag #effyourbeautystandards has taken off to the point where the woman behind it, Tess Holliday, has signed to a major modeling agency despite being neither the height nor weight of your "average" plus-size model.
Because as many of us have now realized, most plus-size models are not really plus-size. At least not in the way you'd imagine. Fashion has always thrived on aspiration, and just as runway models tend to be right on the lowest end of the "straight" size spectrum, plus-size models actually straddle the middle ground - the sizes that lurk at the back of the rail in high-street retailers but also mark the start of many plus-size ranges - 14, 16, possibly 18. This has started an unending argument about what "plus-size" truly is and whether the models used really represent the women buying plus-size clothing. (The short answer is no. Just like how runway models don't represent people who buy a size 10.)
Among those to come under fire was ASOS, whose Curve range starts at a UK size 18. Recently the brand has made an effort to use larger models following the negative feedback from consumers, but it was only a year or so ago that Bree Warren was a frequent Curve model. Her model card lists her as a UK size 14 with a 29-inch waist. She is stunning and excellent at her job but hardly representative of the 18-plus woman shopping for ASOS Curve.
Source: ASOS
Though I'm a few inches shorter, I have almost identical measurements to Bree Warren. I wear a UK size 14. My BMI is healthy, but to many slim people, I am still considered "too fat." To the plus-size community, I am not big enough. I have had my body shape described as everything from "normal" to "Adele-sized" (for the record, all comparisons to Adele are gratefully accepted). Straddling two sides of the industry, I am what is now being coined an "in-betweener."
The term started being used more frequently in fashion circles last year, when model Myla Dalbesio was signed for a big Calvin Klein campaign. Despite the fact Calvin Klein did not identify her as plus-size, the shock headlines quickly started anyway. A huge fashion brand was using a plus-size model for the first time! The truth? Dalbesio is a US 10/UK 14, with similar measurements to Bree Warren - and me. At 5'11", her body is completely in proportion, and in the campaign, she looks amazing. This should have been seen as a good thing, a woman with a body closer to that of many consumers was finally being represented in fashion. But because of the label, things went the other way entirely as people complained she wasn't plus-size enough.
Source: Calvin Klein
What Dalbesio told Yahoo Style about the whole furor around her size sums up exactly how I feel every time I post a photo of myself online or try on a dress in H&M. When you straddle two very different sides of an industry, making either of them accept you is tricky. For a second, it felt like being "average" actually made things harder. Here's some of what Dalbesio said:
"I can never figure out where I fit in, and I'm always making someone mad. I'm not skinny-skinny, but I'm not fat and fabulous either. I'm a size 10. There's been a whole public outcry about me not being as big as people think I should be. They say, 'What do you have to complain about? You have a great body.' But if you're a size 6 or 10 (US), that doesn't mean you don't need to see yourself represented too."
This year, I believe things are moving in the direction of the in-betweener. There has long been controversy over the so-called "glorification" of plus-size, with arguments that we have gone from one extreme to another. But is this really true, given that the majority of plus-size models are barely a size 16? The plus-size industry is a huge one that will continue to grow, and perhaps by removing the labels on models who do not fairly represent their consumers, the plus-size industry will have the opportunity to diversify even more.
Elsewhere, the in-between models should no longer be seen as token "real girls" alongside their size-6 (6 UK = 2 US) colleagues. Putting more emphasis on the middle ground, the alleged "normal" woman seems like the logical step to close the divide. The average female dress size varies depending on the study, but most agree it's somewhere around 14 to 16 in the UK. Naysayers have often complained that rather than using models who are either size 0 or size 18 with nothing in between, we should be showing a breadth of sizes, including those in the middle. Where better to start than the average?
We are, after all, the lucky ones, even if we don't feel like it sometimes. Women who're size 14 or 16 can technically shop at more retailers than anyone of any other size. We can buy standard and plus-size clothes. However, that doesn't mean either is designed with us in mind. I get just as many funny looks from shop assistants when I walk into plus-size retailer Evans as I did when I went into Miss Selfridge when I was 30 pounds heavier. But I have the option, something many other women are not lucky enough to have.
That doesn't mean dressing well is easy. We have to be just as creative as anyone else, despite this added choice. In-betweeners become experts at picking and choosing items from various retailers, learning what works and what doesn't from each range. As we often have larger busts and curvier hips and bums to consider, we rarely find one size fits all, and we have to shop around. We don't have many people in the public eye to look to for inspiration, because so often with fame comes pressure to lose weight and put out an exercise DVD. But we do have places to go for inspiration online, as our blogosphere is growing too. More brands are adjusting their in-store displays to reference our body types. Victoria Beckham now makes dresses in our size!
Plus, we know the real truth. Years of not knowing quite where we fit has taught us that nobody is truly average. "Normal" doesn't exist, and while every body is different, all of them are brilliant. Isn't it time more of them were represented in fashion?
2 Children Found Dead After Accidentally Locking Themselves Inside of a Car
Every year parents are warned about the dangers of leaving children inside of a hot car, but for one mother from Parker County, TX, the nightmare aftermath of that situation unfortunately became a reality in a different form when her two children allegedly sneaked out of their home and accidentally locked themselves inside a vehicle.
The mother reportedly told Parker County police that her two children "took off" without informing her. After initially searching her home on Friday, the mother went outside and discovered her 2-year-old daughter and 16-month-old son dead inside of an overheated car. According to ABC News, temperatures outside the vehicle reached 96 degrees.
The mother told police that she broke into one of the windows before she found her two children unresponsive. Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler released a statement about the "especially heartbreaking" tragedy, saying the case is "still in the early stages" of an active investigation.

You'll Be Getting All Your Summer Updo Inspiration From This Royal
After we saw Queen Letizia of Spain wearing a bubble ponytail, we realized the royal is actually the queen of the updo - we couldn't resist the pun. Going back through our archives and analyzing her looks through the past few years (it's our job), we noticed that while Letizia's modern fashion choices are always what capture our attention right away, her hairstyles are as carefully planned and executed as what she's wearing.
Just in the past year, Queen Letizia has let go of her short bob for a longer length that allows her to braid, twist, and knot her hair to her every whim, and there's not one single updo she's worn that doesn't feature a special detail. Keep reading to see what we mean, and get ready to feel inspired to wear your hair up all Summer long.

Dunkin' Donuts S'mores Coffee Flavor Will Take Your Morning to the Next Level
Dunkin' Donuts's s'mores coffee flavor has officially arrived in stores, and when I guessed that it would pair well with the new vanilla cake batter doughnut as well, I was not wrong. I tried the s'mores flavor in a Frozen Dunkin' Coffee, and the flavor complemented the sweetness of the coffee nicely. I was concerned the sweet paired with the sweet would be overwhelming, but there's enough of a graham cracker flavor to the s'mores that it tones down the sweetness. The toasted marshmallow and chocolate flavors are subtle but definitely present, and this combination might be my new go-to drink option.
As for the Vanilla Cake Batter Doughnut, I nearly ate it too fast to actually taste it, but I slowed myself down halfway through - it was that good. The doughnut itself is sweet and light, but the filling is the star of the show. While it's billed as a vanilla cake batter flavor, what it really tasted like to me was vanilla frosting. It was sweet but didn't overpower the doughnut flavor, and the chocolate frosting cut through it so that it wasn't too much vanilla. All in all, it was an excellent doughnut.
While the pairing may not be the greatest morning option (hello, sugar overload), both the s'mores flavor and the cake batter doughnut are excellent options for any time of day. Make sure to snatch both of them up soon, though; we don't know how long they'll last!
15 Things My Depression Would Definitely Text Me, If It Could
For those suffering from depression, it can often feel like nothing will ever get better and nobody will ever understand. My personal bouts consist of oversleeping, undereating, shutting down at inappropriate times, disconnecting or isolating myself from the people I care about in an effort "not to burden them," and generally being a challenging person to deal with and get through to.
I think about all the ways depression (and its sh*tty second cousin, anxiety) have made a home in me; like a devil on either shoulder, telling me I don't deserve the things I want, the people I love don't love me back, and the roads to healthy relationships and self-confidence will always be closed for construction. But one of the things I can bring to my decades-long odyssey with mental illness (besides, you know, medication and therapy) is a wry, malapropos sense of humor - because sometimes, it really does seem like there is nothing else. That being said, here are some text messages I just know I'd get from my depression if it could fit its grubby little hands around a cell phone (and if I actually gave it my number).
- It's honestly so crazy to me that you have friends. Isn't that crazy to you?
- You realize nobody like, actually likes you, right? Try looking up "tolerate" in the dictionary, hun.
- They "just want you to be happy?" LOL, you don't really believe that, do you?
- Yeah, that dude is WAY out of your league. Cute that you thought he'd be into you, though.
- Don't you think you're being a little too . . . I dunno . . . happy right now? Snap out of it, girl. It's not always about you!
- Isn't Pinterest so inspiring? It's like, all the things you'll never have and don't deserve, but in one handy place. You should check it multiple times a day!
- You really are better off just keeping your head down, getting your work done, and going home. Nobody will notice because nobody cares!
- You really are better off just saying you're tired, turning down the invite, and staying home. Nobody will notice because nobody cares!
- Wait, you tried to explain our relationship to someone?! I bet you cried! Way to go. Have fun looking insane.
- OMG, my vacay was amazing. Looks like you had a fun couple of weeks without me but I'm so glad to be back - aren't you so glad I'm back?
- Did that doctor just call me "severe?" Way harsh, Tai.
- Hey, we have that 11 hours of sleep that we really need to get to. So what the sun's still out? Seems like the sun's problem.
- Um, Anxiety just told me you were awake half the night thinking about how f*cked up your life is and didn't get the 11 hours of sleep we need to function. Care to explain?
- Wait, who told you your life was f*cked up? Not me, I hope.
- Dude, you're so dramatic. You'll be fiiiine. When have I ever lied to you?

Are Steel-Cut Oats That Much Healthier Than Rolled Oats?
Rolled oats sound healthier for you than quick oats because they're less processed, right? So if steel-cut oats are even less processed than rolled oats, they're the healthiest of them all, right? If you're not even sure what the different types of oats are, the explanation below should clear things up.
To shed some light about which oats are better for you, check out the chart comparison below.
Steel-cut oats | Old-fashioned (rolled) oats | Quick oats | |
---|---|---|---|
Description | Also called Irish or Scotch oats, these are cut, not rolled. They look like chopped-up rice, take the longest to cook, and have a slightly chewy consistency. | Sometimes called rolled oats, these look like flat little ovals. When processing these oats, the kernels are steamed first, and then rolled to flatten them. They take longer to cook than quick oats but are quicker than steel-cut oats. | Also called instant oats, these oats are precooked, dried, and then rolled. They cook in a few minutes when added to hot water and have a mushy texture. |
Typical Serving Size | 1/4 cup dry | 1/2 cup dry | 1/2 cup dry |
Calories | 170 | 190 | 150 |
Total Fat | 3 g | 3.5 g | 3 g |
Saturated Fat | 0.5 g | 0.5 g | 0.5 g |
Cholesterol | 0 mg | 0 mg | 0 mg |
Sodium | 0 mg | 0 mg | 0 mg |
Carbs | 29 g | 32 g | 27 g |
Fiber | 5 g | 5 g | 4 g |
Sugars | 0 g | 1 g | 1 g |
Protein | 7 g | 7 g | 5 g |
Calcium | 2% | 2% | 0% |
Iron | 10% | 15% | 10% |
Surprised? It looks like they're pretty similar, but one thing that sets them apart is how they compare on the glycemic index. The less-processed steel-cut oats have a much lower glycemic load than higher-processed quick oats. Low-GI foods slow down the rate that glucose (sugar) gets introduced into your body, and in contrast, high-GI foods cause a spike in your blood sugar as well as insulin, causing you to crave more sugary foods when your glucose levels drop. The best option then are the steel-cut oats, with rolled oats a great second choice. They'll keep you feeling fuller longer, which will keep your energy levels up and help you lose weight.
If you're obsessed with this grain, here are some fun tips and recipes to help you enjoy it even more.
- If you love steel-cut oatmeal, try freezing single-size servings.

- Make these chocolate peanut butter overnight oats to save time in the morning.

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler's $11.75M Chicago Mansion Has an Indoor Basketball Court and a Movie Theater
After several years, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler are ready to move out of their stunning suburban mansion outside of Chicago. On May 30, the couple listed their sprawling seven-bedroom property $4.75 million after having bought it in 2014 for $4.25 million, according to Trulia.
In addition to the seven freaking bedrooms, the mansion also boasts 10 bathrooms, a movie theater, indoor basketball court, and wine cellar. At the back of the property, there's also a peaceful wooden walkway that leads to a small private beach on Lake Michigan. All in all, the three-story home amounts to 11,000 square feet.
It's likely that Cavallari and Cutler are hoping to move away from the Chicago area and relocate their family of five. At the close of the 2016 NFL season, Cutler announced his retirement after playing for the Chicago Bears for eight seasons. Now that Cutler is untethered to a team, the family is free to live wherever they please. That being said, Cavallari and Cutler have yet to announce where they'll land next.
In the meantime, see pictures of the gorgeous mansion they got to call home for the past four years.
