Stop Trying to Make Carrot Lattes Happen
Look, we get it. Drinking the same old latte can get a little boring, so it's fun to change up your coffee order sometimes. But one coffee shop in Australia has taken the idea way too far by making "carrot-cinos," aka steamed milk and espresso served IN A CARROT. The coffee shop responsible for this impossibly hipster idea, Locals Corner in Seaforth, shared a photo of the carrot concoction on June 3, writing, "How about carrot latte 😉."
Before you get too heated, know that the carrot latte is not an official menu item; the baristas are simply having fun. They even experimented with a latte inside of a green apple. "We just like doing different things; we've being doing a few of these, one with an apple, one with an avocado, this week was a carrot and next week we will do something different," the cafe owner told Daily Mail Australia.
But knowing how our society works when it comes to "secret menus" related to coffee (hint, hint, Mermaid Frappuccinos), I would not be surprised if people attempted to order this based on the fact that they know the barista can make it. The putting-lattes-in-produce trend started when avocado lattes became a thing, which also originated in Australia (what's the deal, Australia?!). And in our opinion, it has got to stop. It's an insult to fresh carrots everywhere to cut off their tops and fill them with steaming-hot milk and espresso. They deserve to be dipped in hummus or served in crudités cups for party guests to enjoy. Let's put our carrots in salads and keep our lattes in cups and call it a day, shall we?
Grey's Anatomy Fans, Shondaland's New Fall Show Might Be Your Next Obsession
If you're all about Grey's Anatomy and Scandal, then you need to have For the People on your radar. The new TV show, which is set to join ABC's Fall lineup, has some familiar faces behind the scenes. It was created by Shondaland's Paul William Davies, and both Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers serve as executive producers. The cast includes Britne Oldford, Ben Rappaport, Lyndon Smith, Hope Davis, Susannah Flood, Wesam Keesh, Regé-Jean Page, Ben Shenkman, and Anna Deavere Smith.
The show is set in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, and it follows a group of brand-new lawyers reminiscent of those eager, wide-eyed interns from season one of Grey's Anatomy. If the three-minute trailer is any indication, For the People has quite a bit in common with Shonda's hit shows: a high-pressure setting, workplace romances, and some swoon-worthy eye candy. Bless you, Shonda.
Hack It! 2 Cheap and Easy Ways to Make Chicken Broth
I remember learning to make stock in culinary school and thinking, "Eff that! I will literally never do this again." Eight years later, I haven't looked back. I am not about roasting bones from the butcher nor extracting all the flavor of meat only to discard it. This cook is on a budget. I'm not embarrassed to take shortcuts in the kitchen to save some moola and extra minutes, especially when it comes to making chicken broth. Since that day forward, I always make my chicken stock one of two ways, both of which take minimal effort and time:
- Sear raw chicken in a stockpot, cover it in water, and poach for about 15 minutes until cooked through. This is great for from-scratch chicken noodle soup. You get a flavorful, homemade stock plus fully cooked meat to shred and stir back into the soup.
- Alternatively, if you have just eaten a rotisserie chicken or roasted chicken, don't throw out the bones! Fill a stockpot with the bones, leftover skin, etc. and cover it with cold water. Bring to a boil on medium-high and cook for at least 20 minutes and upward of 40 minutes (there's no real harm in "forgetting" it on the stove for a few minutes more). Strain out the bones, and use the velvety, collagen-rich stock in soups, in pastas, or when cooking grains and beans.

Jet-setting is about much more than just packing a few outfits in a suitcase; having the right tools makes the journey easier. Celebrate your friends and loved ones by gifting them with personal items that you know they will actually use.

The Secret to Better Abs? This Exercise
Ready to tighten your tummy, strengthen your core, and flatten your abs? This no-equipment bodyweight exercise will take you to the next level (and though challenging, this move is super simple).
Here's how to do a V-up, which works the abs and even helps get to the lower parts of the rectus abdominis (aka your lower belly).
- Lie face up with arms and legs extended and resting on the floor.
- Keep abs tight and lift hands and feet to meet over torso.
- Lower your arms and legs toward the floor to complete one rep.
- If this variation is too difficult, bend the knees.
- Do as many reps as you can for one minute.

Here's What Happened When SNL's Writers Tried to Make Trump Play the Giving Tree
Considering how much material the Trump administration gives Saturday Night Live to work with each week, writing for the show isn't an easy task. HuffPost talked to two Saturday Night Live writers about writing during an election season - and what it was like working with Donald Trump when he hosted the show in November 2015, in the middle of the campaign.
The two writers are Tim Herlihy, who was with show from 1993 to 2000 and was present for the 1996 and 2000 elections, and Bryan Tucker. Tucker is still with SNL, after joining in 2005, and a writer for the 2008, 2012, and the 2016 elections. Herlihy, who covered tamer elections, spoke about how political sketches didn't necessarily "have to dominate the show" as they do now. "Now, if they did a Trump-less show, people would go bananas. That's a lot of pressure to have [political material]," Herlihy said. Tucker said this election was especially "exceptional because so many people were paying attention to it, and because passions were so deep and there were just a lot of characters, specifically Donald Trump being the biggest character of them all."
During the election, Tucker contended that the show tried to parody both Hillary Clinton and Trump. However, once the person elected is in power, it's the show's responsibility to make fun of them. "Our show is always trying to be a big tent, but before, we're making a very concerned effort to parody both sides because America is paying attention so much to both sides," Tucker. "But afterwards, when one side has so much power and one side has so little, we go after the people who have that power. We punch up."
Herlihy, who worked with previous presidential candidates on the show, thought of Trump as a "joke candidate" and not someone who would win the Republican nomination. "He's a public figure, and nobody thought there was a prayer of him being elected at that point," Herlihy said. Tucker, however, was able to see how Trump operated when it came to deciding what jokes he would make and wouldn't. According to Tucker, Trump only came with one security person, and decided everything himself.
"When we would present him an idea, he would just go from his gut and say, "I like that" or "I don't like that." Sometimes we could persuade him. Sometimes he would lean out of the door and ask his security guy, "Do you think this is funny? Do you think this is a good idea?" But that was, to me, an insight into him that I hadn't gotten before: He really makes decisions by himself, and although he had people he was talking to throughout the week, there was very little back-and-forth with other people."
The only sketch Trump wouldn't do is one that involved him playing the Giving Tree. He didn't enjoy standing in a tree with his head sticking out of it and the sketch itself didn't get many laughs.
This year's Saturday Night Live is now over, but the show's record ratings clearly indicate viewers aren't sick of political sketches.

Kellyanne Conway's Husband Just Trashed Trump's Tweets as "Sad"
Just hours after Kellyanne Conway told the Today show that the media has an "obsession" with President Donald Trump's tweets, her husband, George Conway, revealed his own thoughts about the president's Twitter antics. Mr. Conway took to Twitter to discuss Trump's tweets about the "watered down" travel ban and how he thinks the Justice Department should "seek a much tougher version" following the attack in London.
"These tweets may make some ppl feel better, but they certainly won't help OSG [the Office of Solicitor General] get 5 votes in SCOTUS, which is what actually matters. Sad," Conway wrote, seen below.

While Trump's foes may have gotten a little satisfaction from thinking that Conway's criticism might be revealing of his wife's true feelings about her boss, he later explained that he still "VERY, VERY STRONGLY" supports the president. But he did point out that he does not believe the president's rampant Twitter behavior will help his case in the Supreme Court.

The Relatable Reason This Dad Puts His Kid on a Leash Despite "Dirty Looks"
There aren't many parenting decisions that elicit as much judgment as the toddler leash. But when one dad took his "wild" daughter to the local farmers market, he had "no shame" about putting her on a leash.
"The real difficulty with having a wild child is that you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't," Clint Edwards admitted in a Facebook post. "Because the fact is, if I didn't put Aspen on a leash while at amusement parks, the zoo, a crowded mall, or the farmers market, she'd be the lost child announced over the intercom. She'd be the kid popping up in every Facebook feed for wandering into a shopping center parking lot, unattended. She could be the child climbing into the tiger cage. Because I can't, for the life of me, keep her from moving. Her curiosity is incredible, and for only having a 12-inch stride, she moves faster than any Olympian."
Still, he knows what using the leash in public means.
"And sure, I get dirty looks from strangers," he wrote. To those people, he has only this to say:
"I'm keep this kid safe while maintaining my piece of mind, and that is 10-percent worth it," he wrote. "Because the reality is she'll calm down. She'll figure it out, because all kids do. But until that day comes, I'm going to do whatever I can to keep her out of danger, even if it means a leash."
The Final, Chilling Moments Leading Up to Princess Diana's Tragic Death
It's been nearly 20 years since Princess Diana tragically passed away. The Princess of Wales, who was best known for her dedication to charity work and impeccable sense of style, was only 36 years old when she was involved in an automobile accident in the Alma Tunnel in France, just 25 minutes after midnight on Aug. 31, 1997. Diana and her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, sat in the back of the car, while Dodi's bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, sat in the front with driver Henri Paul. None of them wore seat belts.
Trevor is the sole survivor of the crash, and Dodi and Henri were killed on the spot. Diana's heart was still beating by the time the ambulance arrived at the Pitié-Salpetrière Hospital in southeast Paris, but shortly after, her condition began to deteriorate. After multiple attempts to revive her, doctors came to terms with the fact that they could no longer do anything more to save her life. Diana went into cardiac arrest at around 2:10 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 4 a.m. In a statement read to a hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, anesthesiologist Daniel Eyraud said, "We decided by common consent to stop heart massage as it was completely impossible to restore cardiac activity after such a long period of arrest. From that point, the Princess was pronounced dead. I personally believe we did everything possible to save the Princess with the appropriate means."
On Sept. 6, seven days after her passing, Diana was honored with a public funeral that remains one of the most watched events in history. Three million people crowded the streets of London to follow the route of Diana's coffin from Kensington Palace to her final resting place at the Spencer family home in Althorp, England, and an estimated 2.5 billion people worldwide viewed or listened to the funeral. Diana left behind two sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, who have since devoted their lives to keeping their mother's legacy alive.
I Finally Found the Perfect Towel - and I'll Never Go Back
Now that my linen closet is stacked to full capacity, it feels safe and only right to share details about the towels I no longer want to live without. Full disclosure: I was first turned onto Hotel Collection's Ultimate MicroCotton bath towels through a PR pitch and had meager expectations, until I actually gave the free towel samples a try. Whoa.
From the first wash cycle to the first time I used them, I immediately noticed how much softer, fluffier, and more absorbent they were than any of the other towels I owned. After six months of heavy use and wash rotation – because who wants to use the crappy towels anymore? – I noticed another thing: they're remarkably resistant to mildewy funk. As someone making due in a tiny bathroom with limited ventilation and towel-hanging real estate, this was a problem for me – even with frequent laundering and vinegar cycles. These, however, are different.
The towels come in 21 shades, ranging from easy neutrals to pretty pastels and a handful of bold jewel tones. I've stocked up on vapor – a warm, pale gray that feels as versatile as white but doesn't show my makeup residue as easily. It's the lighter of the two gray options.
While the original price is $31 for a bath towel, you can score one for $15 on sale, which is what propelled me to finally stock up. Like sheets, buying high-quality towels at a price you can afford is an investment worth making. If you're looking for an affordable upgrade to your daily shower or bath routine, I highly recommend them.
10 Reasons Every Woman Should Travel Alone
Travel is supposed to help you grow and learn, but what about doing it alone? Planning a trip by yourself can seem daunting, but I have learned through experience that the times it's just me and my suitcase have been some of the most rewarding. While my trips have ranged from just a weekend away to a jet-setting journey, every time I've left my friends and family behind for some "me" time, I've come back feeling happier and more confident with myself. Read on for 10 reasons why solo is the way to go!
14 Tips For Traveling Alone
1. Being Lonely Can Be a Good Thing
Loneliness can be a scary feeling at first, but the more time I spend by myself, the less I actually think about the fact that I am on my own. Instead, I can let my mind focus on the issues I'm normally too distracted to even consider.
2. You Actually Make Friends With the Locals
When I travel with friends or my boyfriend, there's always a safety net - someone to share every experience with. Alone, if I want company I have to strike up a conversation, which has led to meeting some pretty interesting locals and fellow travelers too.
3. Your Time Is All Your Own
For me, often the best way to explore a city is to just get lost. I like to wander my way around to interesting shops and cafes, stopping on a whim. Alone, each day is mine and mine completely, and any adventure is one that I can accept.
4. Being Selfish Is Liberating
From work to family and friends, so much of life is about compromise, so actually getting to do exactly what I want, when I want to is, well, different. Having the ability to embrace selfishness helps make later compromise feel a little less terrifying.
5. You Don't Have to Rely on Someone to Go With You
When alone, I have quickly learned that activities I always assumed required a partner are totally fine to do solo. From exploring to just enjoying a casual meal, tackling life solo offers up a whole new perspective.
6. It's Empowering
As I've mentioned before, when all by myself I've felt lonely and scared too many times to count, actually. But every time something scary happens, there is no one to turn to but myself. To navigate complicated travel plans or a language barrier solo is proof that I am more capable than I ever expected.
7. It Can Teach You a Lot About Other Cultures
During my travels, I've been harassed and heckled, but I have also experienced extreme kindness. Having insight into the lives of other women from different cultures helps me to appreciate what I have but also gives me so much respect for those whose lives are so different than mine.
8. Your Plans Won't Go as Expected
Even with the most detailed itinerary, I know that anything can go wrong (or right) when traveling in a foreign place. When I love unexpected cities I can simply extend my stay, and likewise if I am not enjoying myself, it's easy enough to just pack up and leave.
9. It's Easy to Stick to Your Budget
Instead of being tempted by fancy dinners or romantic hotels, when I'm on my own it's all about sticking to my budget. Hostels are a great affordable option; same with street vendors for food or quick takeout places.
10. You Come Back With a New Perspective
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and when I am across the world all on my own, there is plenty of time to think about what was really important. I come home to my friends and family, really appreciating what they have to offer.

21 Movies to Watch If You Loved 13 Reasons Why
If you've already raced through 13 Reasons Why (and all the shows like 13 Reasons Why), we have some movies to add to your list. These 21 films all have some similarities to the hit Netflix series, whether they lie in tone, characters, or story. While we're still waiting to hear if season two is on the horizon, take a look at the following films that might make you feel a little bit better after finishing the show. (Or way worse, depending on the movie.)
What Is It Like to Be in an Open Marriage? 1 Woman Shares Her Story
Sara and Ben (names have been changed) are a happily married, millennial couple in an open relationship. We reached out to Sara to share some insight into their journey to polyamory, the ground rules they've set, and what it's like to date other people - and maybe even fall in love with other people - when you're already married to someone you love.
How long have you been with your husband?
We've been together for nine years. We met on our first day of college - I was determined to break out of my nerdy shell and sit next to the cutest person in the room. I was really drawn to Ben. He ended up being super quiet and thus I was convinced that he hated me, but in actuality he was just nervous (and a soft-spoken person). We became friends, and the rest is history.
When did you decide to have an open relationship?
We started talking about being monogamish (which later involved into full-blown polyamory, haha) about two years into our relationship. Seven years ago.
Who initiated it? How did the conversation go?
Ben is an open-minded person who has never been a big believer in social constructions or tradition. I am a bit more of a rule follower, but definitely liberal and nonjudgmental. He brought up the idea of him being comfortable with me casually dating other people early on in our relationship. He knew that he was my first boyfriend (I was 18), and he didn't want me to feel like I was missing out on dating. We talked about nonmonogamy in theory for a long time (two years?) before ever acting on it. In hindsight, I feel like this gave me time to get used to the idea, and for us to build a solid foundation. One of my biggest takeaways from our relationship (and from hearing about other couple's open relationships) is that a successful nonmongamous relationship centers on honest communication and a strong connection between the couple.
How would you describe your relationship?
Our relationship has evolved over time, but the constant has been how close we are with one another. We've been consistently super happy together for almost a decade! The other constant is that since becoming "monogamish" (and eventually, "poly"), we've always dated separately.
At first, we were monogamous (I was 18 and didn't know much about any other relationship structures). Ben mentioned that he would be comfortable with me casually dating other people early on in our relationship, and it was then something we talked about every once in a while for a few years. These conversations were happy and exploratory. When we graduated college (and moved in together), I met someone that I could see myself dating. Ben was comfortable with me exploring it, and I casually went on a few dates. From there, we talked about opening the relationship on his end as well, and I was surprised by how nonjealous I felt. We took it really slow (lots and lots of conversation) and occasionally dated outside of our relationship. As time went on, the "casual" piece has become less and less important. I dated someone for over a year, and the consistency (and depth) was really nice. Ben was fully supportive - in fact, he prefers when I date someone longer term, because he trusts that I'm safe (dating new people can feel scary - you never know who might be a creep!). He has been seeing two women for about eight months, and again I am surprised by how normal it feels.
Logistically, we tend to see the other people we're dating (if we're dating other people) about once a week. I have an incredible busy career (whereas Ben's is more mellow), so he might go on two dates a week (almost always during times when I am busy anyways). I am super picky and not always seeing someone, but when I am, I like to see them once a week. In the past I have spent the night at a boyfriend's house, but Ben has not spend the night anywhere.
Do you ever get jealous? Does he?
Making the other person feel valued and primary is extremely important to Ben and me. This really helps minimize jealousy. We spend most of our free time together and try to be intentional about the quality of that time (e.g. putting our phones away and actually connecting). We've both acknowledged that if our foundation wasn't strong, we would probably feel more jealousy.
We shared a big laugh when we realized just how weird/unusual it is for a husband to comfort his wife about her breakup with a boyfriend.
Do you have ground rules? If so, what are they?
The biggest rule is communication - we try hard to balance respect for our other partners' privacy with open communication between the two of us. We are also always honest with the people we are dating. Everyone knows right off the bat that we are happily married, and thus not looking for a lifelong commitment. We also feel strongly about treating the people we date with respect and care (and expect to be treated the same). It makes me really happy (but also disappointed) that several of the women Ben has dated have said that he is the kindest, most respectful man they've been with.
This isn't a rule but more of a practice: we have not met one another's partners in the past. This might also help minimize jealousy. Not meeting one another's partners also allows each of us to have an identity outside of our marriage, which is nice. However, we're both open to meeting someone the other person is dating if they felt strongly about it.
Another big (and hopefully obvious) rule is condoms. We believe in safe sex for everyone, not just open couples!
Have you fallen in love with someone you've dated?
Yes - I've been in love with one other person. It was not the same as the deep love I feel for Ben, but it was fun and meaningful. Ben didn't feel threatened and was an amazing source of support when we eventually broke up. We shared a big laugh when we realized just how weird/unusual it is for a husband to comfort his wife about her breakup with a boyfriend. Ben hasn't fallen in love with anyone (he is a private person, and the women he is dating are not looking for serious relationships). If he did fall in love, I don't think it would bother me. We both feel strongly that our relationships with other people don't take away from how we feel about each other.
Do your friends or family know?
My sister (who is also my best friend) and her husband know, which is extremely helpful. Finally telling them was a massive relief. I felt like I was living a double life for a while there, which I hated. We've also told a few close friends, all of whom have been awesome and supportive. The idea of telling our parents makes us both want to poop our pants, and thus will never happen (nor does it need to). I'm not particularly close with the rest of my family, so there is really no need to tell them.
This past year, we've been trying to tell new friends early on, because it is much less awkward. This has been a great strategy! We tend to attract open-minded people into our lives, so no one has had a terrible response thus far.
What type of guys do you go for? Are they similar or different than your husband?
I tend to be attracted to older men, which is different from Ben (he is only a couple of months older than I am). My long-term boyfriend was hilariously similar to Ben in some ways (both surfers, they liked similar bands and movies, similar styles of dress, etc.).
What type of women does your husband go for? Are they similar to you or different?
Ben tends to go for women who are a bit more free-spirited than I am - which is fine by me! He can go camping with them while I enjoy the comfort of a real bed. The women he dates do tend to be intellectual like I am. They sound like awesome people who I could easily be friends with.
How has this arrangement helped your relationship?
I am 100 percent convinced that being in an open relationship has made our relationship better. We've honestly become closer through sharing our dating experiences with one another. We've always had an awesome sex life, and it's fun to be able to have sexual experiences outside of the relationship (it takes a lot of pressure for us to be all things for the other person).
Do you have kids or plan on having kids? How will this affect your decision to have an open relationship?
We're unsure about kids but would probably be monogamous during the baby phase (only because of time constraints). Our biggest commitment to one another is to keep talking honestly and continually reevaluating the structure of our relationship. Originally we weren't sure if we were going to be nonmonogamous for 10 minutes, or 10 years. It's all about making sure we're both happy. We're so grateful to have found one another and joke that we're two little aliens in love. We don't know if our relationship will always be open, but we do feel strongly that we'll be together.

This Drag Artist's Look Is So Unique, It Makes Us Redefine Gender Entirely
"I have problems with gender dysphoria and this has pushed me to distorting my appearance because it's more comfortable for me to confuse people about my gender than have people see me as male," a drag artist known as Salvia told I-D. The male-born, English makeup artist is already gaining buzz on Instagram for rocking out-there, gender-neutral looks. Think: white clown face, eyes that look like hollow sockets, and exaggerated, distorted lips. It's many of the same makeup tricks we use during Halloween, except this is not a costume - it's a form of self-expression.
Not feeling like she fit into any category, the Salvia persona grew. "I named myself Salvia after the magical plant," she said in the interview. "I'm obsessed with flowers, and a common theme in my artwork is giving birth to yourself, and I think that flowers represent that. Mazatec shamans see it as an incarnation of the Virgin Mary and I find that very mystical and romantic. I am Salvia, she isn't completely a made up character."
While Salvia's looks may be more abstract than botanical, she definitely has skills when it comes to using makeup brushes. Keep reading to see more of her many gender-neutral faces.

With lunch shaming at the forefront of many a parenting conversation these days, a Norwegian ad seeking to raise awareness of the importance of foster care is making its rounds on the internet for a much more uplifting reason. The emotional minute-long spot features elementary school kids taking out their lunches in the classroom after a lesson, when the focus goes to one little boy, who discovers his lunchbox is completely empty. The child heads to the hallway water fountain clearly upset but gets a touching surprise from his fellow classmates when he returns to put his lunchbox away.
The sweet ad, which was shared to the Fosterhjem (foster care) Facebook page, has nearly 4 million views and 55,000 shares just 10 days after posting, spreading the importance of foster care like wildfire. "Solutions are often closer than you think. Now we need more foster homes, preferably in the children's immediate environment," the text at the end of the video reads. The video's caption adds, "Nothing is better than a good network and community."

We're Not Exaggerating When We Say Disney's Spicy Mango Dessert Speaks to Our Soul
Nearly a month after unveiling a mango dessert bar doused in Tajín and chamoy, Disney California Adventure is back with another sweet treat that speaks to our soul. At the newly opened Bifrosties stand in Hollywood Land, you can now order the so-called Spinal Fluid dessert, which consists of banana shave ice topped with mango coulis and chili lime spices.
What's with the grim name? Well, all of the desserts at the stand are somehow associated with Guardians of the Galaxy as part of Disney's Summer of Heroes. As a result, the dessert will sadly only be available until Sept. 10.
If you're looking to upgrade the zesty dessert even more, you can pay an additional cost to add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to the shave ice creation. According to a lucky someone who tried a different Bifrosties menu item, the shave ice dessert is priced at $5. Scroll ahead for more drool-worthy photos.

Ariana Grande promised to return to Manchester for a star-studded benefit concert after a terrorist attack killed 22 people and injured 119 at her May 22 tour stop, and the event was an unbelievable success. Not only did the British Red Cross raise over three million dollars, but all of the performances were showstoppers. Once Ariana knocked it out of the park with her own set, Coldplay took the stage to sing their emotional ballad "Fix You." People in the audience sang along through tears, and some formed a big heart with police and security. It was clearly one of the most moving, cathartic moments of the night.

The Drama Behind Grey's Anatomy's Biggest Character Departures
Plenty of characters have left Grey's Anatomy over the years. On the show itself, there are two ways you can go. You can have a tragic death like Derek Shepherd, or in the case of most recent departure, Stephanie Edwards, you can find a way to see yourself out. Regardless of how a doctor leaves on screen, though, the story is always vastly different behind the scenes. In the same vein as the show, though, there are two options: to leave or to get fired. Many of the stars over the years have had pretty amicable exits. In the case of Stephanie, actress Jerrika Hinton simply wanted to move on. And then there are the other cases where some serious sh*t goes down and a bridge gets burned.
How to Turn Stress Into Something Positive, According to a Clinical Psychologist
We all experience stress differently - but we can all agree on the goal of wanting to reduce or prevent it as much as possible. While there are several ways to relieve the effects of stress, there is a method of using it to your advantage. Rather than fearing stress, it could be beneficial to learn how to work with it, not against it. Speaking with Dr. Alison Darcy, a clinical psychologist and lecturer at Stanford University, helped me understand how you can actually turn stress into something positive.
"One of the biggest tips I think for dealing with stress and anxiety is realize and understand how that anxiety is helping you first and foremost - because the objective is not to eliminate any emotion," Dr. Darcy said. "You can't selectively eliminate, unfortunately. It's to dial it down to a healthy level."
Dr. Darcy explained how we tend to judge our emotions in a binary way, being good or bad. But in reality, a certain amount of stress and anxiety is reasonably healthy and positive. It helps us keep our responsibilities in order and reveals a part of who we are in a sense.
"Understand how that anxiety is helping you, because the objective is not to eliminate any emotion . . . It's to dial it down to a healthy level."
"The first thing that I do as a clinician is to help people see why they should be proud in a way," she said. "Either the emotion is serving purpose or it says something really valuable about them as people. Sometimes, people feel depressed and it's sort of an integrity thing; they're depressed with the state of the world or something. Well, doesn't that say something beautiful about you as a sensitive human being that is socially conscious? Understanding what's adaptive about your emotion is the key, I think, to then have the ability to turn it down to a healthy level."
Whether you use stress as motivation or as a reminder of what you need to take care of, it all begins with acknowledging how the particular emotion is helping you. Befriend it instead of allowing yourself to become overwhelmed by it.
In terms of stress reduction, Dr. Darcy shared several proven ways to keep it under control, including physical exercise every day, breathing exercises to help slow your heart rate, and making behavioral changes like getting enough sleep.
"Meditation has shown to be useful from an overall management point of view," she said. "Honestly, sleeping correctly, exercising regularly, and if you could do some kind of yoga or meditation - ideal."
Whatever form you choose, the key is daily practice. So keep calm, carry on, and don't let stress rule you!

"At under 400 square feet, our Craftsman cottage is indeed tiny, but in the five years we've been here, we've never needed more space," says Whitney Leigh Morris, small-space living aficionado, designer, and blogger behind The Tiny Canal Cottage. So what's her secret to making everything fit? "Nearly everything about the cottage - from the built-ins to the decor - was deliberately chosen to maximize the space. I selected furniture and accessories over time as we learned how to best navigate this particular layout with one another." Whitney recently refreshed her Venice Beach, CA, home for Spring, and the pictures were so stylish and full of small-space living inspiration that we had to share them with you. At the newly opened Bifrosties stand in Hollywood Land, you can now order the so-called Spinal Fluid dessert, which consists of banana shaved ice topped with mango coulis and chili lime spices.
What's with the grim name? Well, all of the desserts at the stand are somehow associated with Guardians of the Galaxy as part of Disney's Summer of Heroes. As a result, the dessert will sadly only be available until Sept. 10.
If you're looking to upgrade the zesty dessert even more, you can pay an additional cost to add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to the shaved ice creation. According to a lucky someone who tried a different Bifrosties menu item, the shave ice dessert is priced at $5. Scroll ahead for more drool-worthy photos.

What You May Not Have Known About Grace Kelly's Untimely Death

Grace Kelly passed away on September 14, 1982, and the details surrounding her death are still just as tragic. The Princess of Monaco was 52 when a stroke caused her to lose control of the wheel and crash her 1971 Rover P6 3500. On a Monday morning, Grace and her daughter Stéphanie, who was 17 at the time, prepared to leave for the palace after spending time at their country home in at Roc Agel. They had tickets for a train to Paris, where Stephanie would start school that Wednesday. After filling the rear seat with dresses and large hat boxes, Grace told her chauffeur that it would be easier if she drove. Even though he tried to persuade her to let him drive, saying that he could come back for the clothes, she insisted the two make the journey without him.
At about 10 am, Grace, with her daughter in the passenger seat, pulled away from Roc Agel and headed down the hill and into La Turbie, a commune in southeastern France. Approximately two miles from La Turbie, Grace missed an especially steep turn, causing the car to crash into a retaining wall and drop more than 100 feet over a cliff. When paramedics arrived, Grace was alive but unconscious and in critical condition. She and Stéphanie were transported to the Monaco Hospital, which has since been renamed the Princess Grace Hospital Centre. A day later, she suffered a second hemorrhage and never regained consciousness. While it has been widely thought that she succumbed to her injuries from the crash, Grace actually died on Tuesday night after her husband Prince Rainier chose to take her off life support.

On Saturday, over 400 people, including Cary Grant, Nancy Reagan, and Princess Diana, said farewell to the Hollywood icon, while close to 100 million viewers tuned in on TV. The funeral was held at Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Monaco, where Grace had her fairytale wedding to Prince Rainier in 1956. Stéphanie, the youngest of Grace and Rainier's three children, was not present at the funeral as she was still being hospitalized for minor injuries from the accident. After a Requiem Mass, Grace was laid to rest in the Grimaldi family vault.

This Summer, you can now get a grape-flavored Hi-Chew ice cream bar, Rocket News 24 reports. Though they are only available in convenience stores across Japan until July 15, we're going to be on the hunt at various Japanese groceries in America for a chance to try this one-of-a-kind treat. According to the candy manufacturer Morinaga, the sweet-tart, chewy candy (made from real fruit juice) coats a vanilla ice cream bar. Morinaga tweeted that the "two-tier structure demonstrates the succulent taste of Hi-chew grape flavor and soft texture!" Though I can't confirm it yet, I'm envisioning this concept is a riff on mochi ice cream, only better.
Apparently, these bars were available in "family packs" last year, but we somehow missed this glorious news. This year, Morinaga has opted to sell the bars individually, priced at a little over $1. That seems like a reasonable price to pay to subject your taste buds to frozen Hi-Chew heaven.
