10 Makeup Mistakes You Need to Stop Making at the Office

At the workplace, beauty gals face a tough challenge: expressing their individuality (and love of makeup!) while looking professional and sophisticated. Just like the outfit you wear to the office, the choices you make with your beauty routine can dramatically affect your colleagues' perspective of you.

In fact, it's the sad truth that your appearance could make you appear less competent. It was recently confirmed in a study that women who don't wear makeup make less money than those who do, and we predict that shoddy cosmetic application can also result in the same wage gap. So rather than let a fun hobby affect our salary, we consulted a pro for advice. Jerry Johnson, global makeup artist for Laura Mercier, schooled us on the biggest office beauty mistakes to ensure our makeup always looks polished and professional in the workplace.

  1. Not seeking out the best lighting in the office. If you put makeup on at work, this tip is essential. There's a good chance that you have fluorescent lightbulbs throughout your office. If that's the case, you already know that they're not particularly flattering and can make you look sickly.

"Fluorescent lighting can be terrible for makeup application," confirmed Johnson, who advised you head to the ladies' room for touch-ups instead of sticking at your desk. "Many office bathrooms have windows with natural light, or even just better lighting than the office." This will prevent you from overapplying foundation, blush, or bronzer to counteract the washed-out effects of the fluorescent bulbs.

If your bathroom's lighting is just as bleak, seek out a window elsewhere. Sun on a cloudy day is still an improvement over crummy indoor lighting!

  2. Using too much metallic formulas in your routine. "Just say no to shimmer!" Johnson declared. "When you wear shimmer and sparkle makeup, it reads like you're going out for the evening." If you opt to add a bit of luminosity to your appearance, focus on a bit of glimmer in your blush or strobing with a very light hand to give your complexion a healthy glow. Double-check your face in the office lighting to make sure you don't look too Vegas-ready overt - above all, you want to look like a professional at work, not a party girl.
  3. Not rocking a power lip for presentations. Even if a bold pout isn't usually in your beauty wheelhouse, consider it if you'll have a starring role at your next meeting. "When speaking in front of a crowd, you want people to pay attention to you and what you're saying," Johnson pointed out. "A bright shade draws attention and your colleagues will be more apt to listen to you." Try a confident, tomato-red shade like Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in Foreplay ($28).
  4. Wearing too much foundation. "Stick to a natural, reasonable amount of coverage," Johnson suggested. Excess cream foundation and setting powder can look especially heavy and chalky under fluorescent lights. Instead, try just covering dark circles, blemishes, and other imperfections with concealer, then evening out your skin tone with a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer.
  5. Checking yourself out too frequently. Unless you're a fellow beauty editor, your boss probably won't appreciate if you test out your most recent lipstick purchases or dust on bronzer on company time - especially at your desk. Restrict your touch-ups to the ladies' room and save them for moments that matter, like before a meeting or happy hour.
  6. Forgetting to fill in your brows. By simply defining your arches, you'll look more groomed, polished, and professional. "I've seen many women put on an entire face of makeup and then forget about the eyebrows!" Johnson lamented. "Your eyebrows shape your face."

The finished result of a filled brow is also supersubtle, so those who don't want to wear a full face of makeup or work in environments that frown on cosmetics should definitely try it out. Lightly sketch in the sparse parts of your brows and improve their shape using a pencil like Laura Mercier Eyebrow Pencil ($24). Be wary of making them look too heavy; you don't want your new office nickname to be "Groucho Marx." Learn how to pick the right shade for your arches here, then master how to fill them in.

  7. Slicking on lip gloss. "Leave the shiny glosses for a night on the town," Johnson advised. Lacquered lips can look overly youthful or too casual, so opt for matte-, cream-, or balm-textured formulas instead. Consider stashing one of these innovative pout formulas in your bag.
  8. Aggressively contouring. "We all know that contouring is super popular, but be sure to do a soft contour," Johnson warned. He recommended sculpting with a product that is only one or two shades darker than your natural skin tone. "It doesn't matter if you use a cream or powder," he said, "just as long as it's not harsh looking!" Learn how to properly contour here (and save the aggressive cheekbone-carving for the 'gram).
  9. Skipping blush. "Many women think that if they contour, they won't need blush," Johnson shared. "This is such a huge mistake! Blush brings color into your face." And a little rouge can quickly counteract a sallow-looking complexion under fluorescent lights. Not sure which shade is best for your skin tone? Once you figure out your undertone (warm, cool, or neutral), you'll be better prepared to shop!
  10. Going through your entire beauty routine at your desk. Let us be clear: intermittent lipstick applications and dabs of powder are fine, but doing your whole 20-step regimen at your computer is not. "There's no need to overdo it! Just bring the necessities - lipstick, pressed powder, and mascara," Johnson pleaded. If you'd rather wear more makeup to work, apply it before you get to the office. You may have to set an earlier alarm (and forgo hitting snooze), but losing that extra 15 minutes is worth gaining a boost in professionalism.

I Rubbed Snail Goo on My Face and It Obliterated My Acne

Image Source: StockSnap / Sajjad Ghanavati

Some partners call their lovers "bae" or "boo." But my boyfriend? He calls me "Snail Face."

Technically, he's correct. Twice a day, every day, I rub a tablespoon of snail mucin - also called snail secretion filtrate - over my face and neck. Even though it tastes bitter - my boyfriend learned this first-hand by trying to kiss me on the cheek - it's the only thing that has worked to clear up my adult-onset acne.

I wasn't a pimply teenager and never had problems with it until I hit my early 20s. Suddenly, I was forming blackheads seemingly overnight, and I had a particularly difficult time battling zits on my cheeks. I had every kind of pimple you could imagine: stubborn whiteheads, deeply embedded pustules, pus volcanos, and fiery-red bumps.

Though I'd been using a Cetaphil face wash for years with positive results, it obviously was no longer working. I turned to other tactics, and over the course of the next five years, I tried a number of zany and not-so-zany treatments. I used Proactive, which worked relatively well, except for the fact that it dried my skin out. I saw multiple dermatologists who recommended myriad ointments, like Differin and Tazorac, as well as prescription antibiotics, all of which I dutifully used, to no avail. Facials became a monthly ritual, and I tried everything from intense extractions to LED Blue light treatments and glycolic-retinol masks.

After meeting a woman who claimed using oils on her face rid her of acne, I did the same, rubbing coconut, avocado, and rose hip oils all over my face. (Note: This tactic didn't work and only made me more pimple-y.) Somehow 3 percent hydrogen peroxide got added into the mix, and I started swiping that on my skin after washing. It worked well in preventing breakouts, but it bleached my eyebrows blonde, which wasn't a good look. I swapped the hydrogen peroxide for apple cider vinegar, which also made an impact, but it was too smelly.

I also experimented with my makeup, switching to pore-friendly brands like Bare Minerals, Origins, and Cover FX, and taking days off from wearing products at all. I started using primers and washing my brushes obsessively. I even stopped using a washcloth to clean my face, opting instead for konjac sponges and paper towels to dry my skin.

While some of these treatments worked, none solved my acne problems entirely. Maybe my skin would be clear, but my nose would be peeling or still full of blackheads. I'd still get breakouts every now and then, and I had a few pores that were hell-bent on getting clogged and flaring up on a regular basis.

Fast-forward to today, and getting acne is but a distant memory. My trick: I started using snail mucin. At this point, I was willing to try anything to get rid of my pimples, so even though using a product made out of snail slime sounded a bit gross to me, I was game. I first learned about it through the Korean beauty website, Soko Glam, but I didn't take the plunge and buy any snail products until my facialist recommended one to me by the skincare brand Biopelle.

The first two topicals I tried were Biopelle's Tensage Daily Serum ($125) and Cosrx's Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence ($21). After cleansing and washing my face, I applied both creams to my dry skin in lieu of lotion. They differ in texture, color, and feel.

The Tensage Serum is thick and white, and leaves your skin feeling slightly tingly, while the Advanced Snail Mucin is clear, sticky, and hydrating. Within a week, my skin was almost entirely clear of pimples, and now, after a using snail mucin for a year, I feel confident enough to go out in public without foundation on.

The funny thing is snail mucin isn't even intended to treat acne.

Made of hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, antimicrobial and copper peptides, and proteoglycans, it's marketed as an anti-aging tool that helps diminish fine lines, reduce inflammation, and increase fibroblasts and collagen. The fact that it reduces pimples, is just a lucky addition.

Snail mucin is also not cruelly obtained. There is no one way to collect it. Different companies use diverse methods, as well as different species of snails. And the snails aren't killed or injured in the process.

Biopelle uses a species of snail native to the Mediterranean called Cryptomphalus aspersa, and the secretion is collected through stimulation. Several hundred snails are put into a five-gallon bucket and they're lightly swung around for a few rotations. This activity agitates the snails, who release the secretion. Biopelle president Elliott Milstein said this secretion is different from the mucin they produce for mobility.

"It's not like you can just put a snail directly on your face and have it move around to get those results," Milstein said. He explained that the secretion produced by the snail's movement does not contain the glycolic proteins and growth factors that the secretion acquired through agitation has.

After going through a few swings in the bucket, Biopelle's snails then get to rest for a couple of weeks in "a sanctuary," where they basically get to eat and have a lot of sex. Biopelle collects their eggs and uses them in its Tensage Stem Cell line, which helps produce new skin cells that can reduce signs of aging. The snails get a break in the Fall and Winter and are taken to a swamp in northern Spain to hibernate. According to Milstein, the average lifespan of their snails is twice that of snails living in the wild, which translates to about eight years instead of four.

The snail mucin used in the products Soko Glam sells is acquired differently, and most of the companies they work with are based in Asia.

According to Charlotte Cho, Soko Glam's cofounder, the snails are placed over a mesh net in a dark and quiet room and left to slither about for a good half-hour before their trail of mucin is collected. Unlike Biopelle's snails, the snails used to create Soko Glam's products do not get agitated or stressed because Cho said, "optimal mucin production occurs when snails are well rested and comfortable in their habitat.

There are different theories about how the healing qualities of snail mucin were discovered. Cho explained that Chilean farmers were the first to recognize snails' beneficial traits. "They noticed that their hands were visibly smoother and their cuts were healing quickly after handling snails," she said.

Milstein had another take. He said that radiologists discovered the mucin's healing effects after subjecting snails to x-rays and noticing that the substance they secreted helped heal their burns.

Snail mucin still has a ways to go before it catches on in mainstream formulas and loses its "ew" factor, but there are a fair amount of products on the market already. Quality varies, and Milstein warned that there are some companies that "actually just grind up the snail and don't use the extract." In other words, if a 12-ounce jar of snail mucin for $5 seems too good to be true, it probably is. While snail products aren't as expensive as, say, a La Mer cream, you've got to remember that you're paying for something that takes a lot of time (and a lot of snails) to make. But generally snail products cost anywhere between $20 and $200.

By now, I've recommended snail mucin to many friends and family, and of those who have been brave enough to try it, I've only heard positive results. Sure, it might deter your partner from kissing you on the cheek, but who cares? Your skin will look fantastic.

10 Father's Day Grooming Gift Ideas That He'll Actually Want - According to a Guy

Every year around mid May, I wake up in a cold sweat and ask myself, "Did I miss Father's Day again this year?" Luckily, I have not, (yet.) It's June 18, by the way. In order to make sure I don't blow it off again this year, I always like to come up with a list of gifts to have on reserve just in case I do end up cutting it close. You could do what everyone else does and get him a tie or grilling tools, but grooming products are nice, because guys don't ever think of buying them for themselves. Besides, your dad probably uses hand soap for everything.

This Grammar Quiz Will Make You Feel Like a Genius - Until You Realize It's So Wrong

If you're looking to feel good about yourself, take this grammar quiz that's currently everywhere on Facebook. The Playbuzz quiz includes 25 questions "testing" your grammar skills. However, there's one glaring problem: the quiz will give you a passing score even if you answer plenty of the questions wrong.

The quiz, called "Can You Get a 25/25 on This Advanced Grammar Test?," was posted on Feb. 19 by Xander Maxwell. In it, you're given a question and need to choose the proper grammar to use. But if you answer most of the questions right, you'll be given a 25/25. Take it for yourself below.

Did you score a perfect score? You might be totally right - or you're just lucky enough to have answered a certain number of questions right. The quiz was posted to the Facebook page Teacher Problems, where people are congratulating themselves on getting a perfect score and feeling so smart. POPSUGAR's own copy chief took the quiz herself and figured out the trick to it: if you answer completely wrong or mostly wrong, you'll fail the test. If you answer completely right or mostly right, you'll pass the quiz with a score of 25/25.

Infuriating? Yes. But if it gets people thinking about grammar, we're kinda into it.

Does a Brazilian Blowout Actually Tame My Frizzy Hair in Humidity?

I've fought my curls for as long as I can remember. I never had what were deemed "perfect curls," you know, the Shirley Temple-like ringlets that fall beautifully across a little girl's shoulders. Mine were always a bit of a frizzy mess. And once I hit puberty, they just got worse.

As a teen in the '80s, I fought against them with Revlon Fabulaxer, a chemical straightener designed for coarse, natural hair. My mom would spend hours applying the formula to my head as I tried not to wince when a speck would touch my skin. That, and other chemical straighteners, did a great job of smoothing out my curls but did little to curb the halo of frizz that would float around my head. I wanted Cindy Crawford's easy, messy look. I got the shaggy dog look instead.

In the mid-'90s, I welcomed the arrival of flat irons that were great at temporarily decurling and defrizzing. But once I stepped outside, the hair would shrink up and return to its natural shape - this time with parched ends in the mix.

It wasn't until about 10 years ago that I learned about keratin treatments. I had recently given birth to my first child and didn't have the time to blow out my hair to perfection every other day. When I had weaned my son, my hairdresser introduced me to the process, and I was hooked. In the early days, the formulas were unregulated and still contained formaldehyde. I knew they weren't good for me, but I underwent the process three times a year. It worked like a charm. I could let it air-dry into beautiful, frizz-free curls. I could blow it out into Gisele Bündchen-like beachy waves or Charlotte York-like straight perfection. I was hooked, but hairdressers were getting sick from all of the burning formaldehyde, and the government quickly stepped in and took the products off the market.

The next round of keratin treatments were introduced five years ago. They were formaldehyde-free and did the job, but not quite as well as their predecessors. I kept at it, but it was a lot of work to get the look of the original treatments.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try Brazilian Blowout's version of the treatment. Unlike other versions, Brazilian Blowout is customizable based on your desired results - curls or straight, but no frizz either way. The treatment has minimal amounts of formaldehyde in it so it actually works and claims to last for up to three months. I headed to the Rita Hazan salon in NYC and tested a double treatment of b3 Brazilian Bond Builder. It claims to rebuild and protect the bonds in your hair and the Brazilian Blowout that "fills/seals the cuticle and creates a protective protein layer around the hair shaft to tame frizz." The entire process - including semipermanent color - lasted approximately three-and-a-half hours and was slightly different than other keratin treatments.

Read on to see how it worked and what you need to know before going in for the treatment yourself.

You'll Never Again Go a Day Without Sunscreen After Watching This

If you're still making excuses about sunscreen, maybe this video will change your mind. Artist Thomas Leveritt had women and men of all ages view their faces under an ultraviolet lens, and the results were shocking! An ultraviolet camera is like the truth serum of skin care: it shows both your future and your past. Too much time unprotected in the sun or in the tanning bed reveals freckles, age spots, and sun damage. These spots aren't visible to the naked eye but can appear over time. On the other hand, children (or vigilant sunscreen wearers) appear flawless.

Dermatologists have told us time and time again that SPF is the greatest defense against aging. Under an ultraviolet camera, it shows up as a black barrier against UVA and UVB rays. So, the big takeaway? Put on a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day, not just on beach vacations or during sunny Summer Saturdays. You'll be glad you did when those brown spots never rise to the surface. In the meantime, see your dermatologist to get any moles checked for melanoma.

Queen Elizabeth II Did Something at Diana's Funeral That the Public Did Not See Coming

Princess Diana was honored with a public funeral on Sept. 6, 1997, seven days after her tragic death. The event brought in an estimated 2.5 billion viewers, while another three million crowded the streets of London to follow the route of Diana's coffin from Kensington Palace to her final resting place at the Spencer family home in Althorp. Diana's two sons, William and Harry, joined the funeral procession at St. James's Palace alongside their father, grandfather, and uncle Earl Spencer. The coffin, accompanied by eight Welsh Guards, passed Buckingham Palace, where members of the royal family waited outside. Queen Elizabeth II was one of them, and as Diana's coffin was carried past her, she made a very rare move: she bowed her head.

The queen's gesture is remarkable for a couple of reasons; first, while it is customary for others to bow (or curtsy) to her majesty, she is not technically required to bow or curtsy to others. She made a solemn, unexpected acknowledgment to her former daughter-in-law's casket that she rarely does for anyone else.

Second, there was a huge amount of drama within the royal family after Diana's death, including the fact that Queen Elizabeth II had insisted that Diana's ceremony be private - she faced "fierce resistance" from Prince Charles, and then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair also agreed that Diana should be laid out at St. James's Palace with a public funeral held at Westminster Abbey. Because the queen was so highly criticized for her silence and "business-as-usual" behavior in the wake of Diana's death, her bowing at the coffin attempted to send a message of compassion, honor, and genuine grief.

A Subtle Form of Slut Shaming You May Not Realize You're Perpetuating

On May 23, the Trump administration put another dollar in its "Swear (that we are trying to f*ck over women) Jar" when it rolled out a new rule. The proposed legislation would amend the Affordable Care Act to allow employers to opt out of providing contraception coverage for employees if they have a "conscience-based" objection. This means that if a company has a religious or moral (or really any) opposition to birth control, it can remove free preventive coverage from the medical insurance plans it offers its employees. Because honestly, who hasn't wanted their boss and their government in their panties?

Under the 2010 ACA, contraceptives are free for women because birth control is considered a necessary component of healthcare coverage. But the Obama administration made an exception to the ACA's coverage, allowing religious nonprofits and closely held for-profit companies with religious objections to deny coverage for some - or all - contraceptive purposes. Trump's new draft rule takes this a step (or rather, a giant leap) further and is much broader in its exemption allowances, which will inevitably affect millions of women around the country. In 2013 alone, the ACA contraception mandate helped 55 million women obtain birth control and saved them $1.4 billion in out-of-pocket healthcare spending. That's $1.4 billion with a capital "B" - money that could then be spent on feeding families, higher education, securing a roof over one's head . . . ya know, the little things.

Anyone can understand that if women are forced to spend, on average, $1,200/year on contraception, making birth control free will aid women in taking control of their physical and financial health. In terms of securing economic freedom and bringing families out of poverty, this is paramount. As women of the 21st century, we should all be on the same page there. But we too often tend to lose our spot in the Why Birth Control Is Necessary book we were all given as fourth-wave feminists.

Whenever the discussion of birth control arises, so does one of justification. We hear our friends and coworkers exclaim that, "This is BS! I'm on the pill, but it's for acne," or, "WTF, don't these Republicans know that a lot of women take the pill for endometriosis?! Like Lena Dunham . . . ," and, "Before birth control I had the worst cramps - I need this covered!" Which are all completely valid and reasonable arguments, but they kind of miss the point.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, a whopping 86 percent of women who use birth control use it for pregnancy prevention, aka its intended purpose. And that's awesome. But for some reason, when the topic of the pill comes up, we feel we need to offer up some other explanation besides, "I would like to have sex without having a child before I'm ready or can afford one." But why? Are we trying to appease reproductive-rights foes by offering up medical ailments that can be treated with the pill? Or do we still feel that, in 2017, we cannot be open and honest about the fact that we are sexually active?

As someone who has been guilty of the "acne" disclaimer on more than one occasion, I'm going to proffer that the majority of us, whether subconsciously or not, are still not completely comfortable with announcing that we have sex. We still fear that if we reveal that we use birth control to have sex, and not babies, that we'll be considered sluts - even though we know, as millennial women, that this is an antiquated and erroneous mindset. And yet, we perpetuate the cycle of slut shaming when we continue to use "acne" as an explanation for our BC prescription. Even if the aforementioned, alternative reasons explain your prescription, we still do not need to offer them up as some sort of mechanism to remove the pill's scarlet letter.

Clear skin and cramp-less periods are awesome, but so is having sex without an unplanned pregnancy. Wanting to have sex without an unplanned pregnancy should be enough of an explanation for our birth control. Wanting to have sex without an unplanned pregnancy should not require statistics and numbers to justify. Wanting to have sex without an unplanned pregnancy should be enough of a reason to demand access to birth control.

Our feminist foremothers didn't fight for our sexual liberation so that we could say we have "acne." We must direct the conversation around birth control by demanding that protected sex is our right and that no other explanation is necessary.

Creative Ways to Get Your Body Moving When You're Too Busy to Leave Home

You'll commonly hear new moms share that with their new family responsibilities, leaving the house for long periods of time is hard. Their primary focus, of course, is taking care of their newborn. And even though raising a healthy child is the priority, there are plenty of creative ways to get your body moving around the house. From doing wall sits while waiting for your baby's food to cook to turning your morning cleaning routine into a leg move, we'll show you how to get fit, feel empowered, and be your own kind of strong.

So long as you have the right apparel and space to get moving, here are four ideas to get you started.

Turn tummy time with your baby into a floor workout

Take advantage of your baby's daily tummy time by turning it into a workout activity of your own. Change into your breathable gear and engage your inner thighs with side-lying leg lifts, which allow you to still stay 100 percent focused and engaged with your child.

How to do side-lying leg lifts: Lie on your side with your head propped up using your hand and with your bottom leg lengthened out. Cross your top leg over your bottom leg and rest your knee on the floor. As you exhale, lift your bottom leg up and inhale as you lower it back down, all while keeping your torso still. Try 15 reps, then repeat on the other side.

Do wall sits while you're waiting for the baby bottle to warm up

Find that you're in the kitchen a lot doing a whole bunch of waiting for things to warm or cool? Use the time to get your quads and hamstrings involved.

How to do wall sits: Start by standing with your back pressed against a wall. Slide downward into a squat position by moving your feet outward until your knees make a 90-degree angle (be sure to track your knees so they don't go beyond your toes). Time yourself and see if you can hold the position for 30 seconds. Take a break and return for a total of three reps.

Do hip dips while the baby naps

No need to leave the baby's room. You can do this move right on the floor or carpet while wearing your Duo Dry+ pants.

How to do hip dips: Start in a side elbow plank on your left side with your feet stacked and straight. Keeping your core tight, lower your pelvis to the floor so your left hip hovers just right above the floor. Then press up through the left side of your waist to raise your pelvis back up into the side plank position (be sure to keep your shoulder relaxed). See if you can do a set of 10 before switching to the other side.

Turn cleaning the floor into a cardio opportunity

Rather than cleaning your wood or kitchen floor with a mop, grab a rag and get ready to work your glutes, thighs, and core. Since this activity can get your heart rate up, be sure to change into your fitness gear to avoid getting your normal clothes sweaty.

How to do side skating with a rag: Stand with feet hip-width apart with a bend at the knee. Place your right foot on the rag and left foot on the floor, keeping most of your weight on the left leg. Bend down into a squat position, keeping your knees tracked over your toes, and extend your right leg out to the side like an ice skater (keep your hips back). Your right leg should slide against the rag and floor until it's straight and extended. Then squeeze your inner thighs to return it to your starting position. You'll not only work your legs and core, but you'll also clean the floor while you're at it. Complete 12 reps on one side before switching legs.

7 Celebrity Couples Who Got Back Together After Getting Divorced

New research suggests that celebrity couples are twice as likely to divorce than the rest of us, and this is evident in the number of pairs that called it quits just last year. While some duos like Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have proven that a break is necessary before tying the knot, others like Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson have gone as far as to remarry after getting divorced. From Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton to Eminem and Kim Mathers, we're taking a look at all the celebrity couples who've rekindled their love after getting divorced.

This "Nightmare" Wedding Story Has the Internet Outraged For Good Reason

Wedding etiquette has become more relaxed and less traditional over the years, but what one man did at his best friend's wedding is widely being viewed as disrespectful across social media. According to a recent submission on Slate's "Dear Prudence" relationship column, one woman says her husband's best friend/best man, "John," proposed to his girlfriend, "Jane," in the middle of her wedding!

"The entire atmosphere felt moving. So moving in fact that John stopped midceremony to propose to his longtime girlfriend, "Jane," and reveal her pregnancy," the anonymous woman recalled. "I couldn't even hear the vows my husband wrote or the rest of the ceremony over the noise of Jane's happy sobs, her very surprised family who were also guests, and people seated nearby congratulating her."

If that wasn't horrific enough, what John did later that evening was the icing on the cake. No pun intended. "When John gave his toast, he apologized for being caught up in the moment, and then proceeded to talk about he and Jane's future with nary a mention of us."

The woman in question asked if she and her husband were "angry over nothing" or were they justified for wanting to end their friendship with "John." It didn't take long for the internet to weigh in with their (passionate) thoughts on the awkward ordeal. Check out some of the reactions to the now-viral wedding nightmare ahead.

Cameron Diaz Cuddles Up to Benji Madden Before He Leaves For Tour

If there's one couple we wish we saw more of, it's Benji Madden and Cameron Diaz. The two stepped out for an adorable lunch date at Bouchon in Beverly Hills on Monday afternoon. Clad in a striped shirt and jeans, Cameron appeared to be in a good mood as she wrapped one of her arms around Benji and held on to a green juice drink with the other. Cameron has been keeping a low profile since the release of her Longevity Book last year, while the Good Charlotte rocker is getting ready to hit the road in a couple of days for the European leg of his tour with Pierce the Veil and Sleeping With Sirens.

It's unclear whether Cameron plans to join him, but one thing's for sure: Cameron is one proud wife. Back in July 2016, the actress couldn't help but gush about her husband on Instagram, writing, "One of my favorite things about being married, is how much pride I take in my husband @benjaminmadden... He makes me proud everyday.. One day it might be how generous and giving, another how gentle and thoughtful. Or when he is fiercely protective of the people he loves and cares about... And everyday single day I am so incredibly proud of his integrity as a human being." Aw!

A Front Desk Hotel Manager Dished the (Literal) Dirty Details of the Job

People are weird. If you work the front desk at a hotel, you've probably seen things you can't unsee. From random sh*t being left behind after a guest checks out and difficult customers to the surprisingly kindhearted overnight traveler, things are usually pretty interesting. A front desk manager at a hotel did an AMA on Reddit, and they broke down the good, bad, and ugly aspects of the job. Read on for the dirty details.

What is the most disgusting situation or condition a guest has left their hotel room in?

"This one couple completely overloaded one of the rooms in baby powder. I'm not just talking one bottle either. It was like a Winter wonderland in there. It was horrible. Everything was coated in baby powder. Really weird. We ended up charging them $300 or so to clean it and have it be out of order while we clean it. Which honestly it cost us more than that because of labor cleaning and it not being able to sell the room for a few days."

If I'm staying at the hotel, how to get the best rate? Book online? Walk in? How much leeway do you have to reduce (or increase) rates based on how much you like or dislike the customer?

"I think it depends on property and management but at our location calling us is the best. Be polite and kind on the phone. So many people are rude you wouldn't believe it. Just early today I answered and gave my shpeel [sic] 'Thank you for calling . . . etc.' and this lady cut me off after me saying the 'for calling' part. She demanded a reservation. I ended up making a reservation for her that was $20 [more] than tonight's rate. On the other hand if you are nice and sincere I've often taken $20 off a room rate.

In your case it's not going to happen every time but if you make a habit of treating hospitality and service industry workers nicely they will reward you. There are too many sh*tty people out there for us not to want to help you. As a FDM and even our front desk associates have a lot of leeway in changing rates. We have a floor rate that we never go below but even that is sometimes 1/2 of what our nightly rate is depending on the night. I've often given people $100 off for various reasons."

What are reasons why a guest would get kicked out?

"We're pretty strict on policy. If you are disturbing other guests after we've asked you to quiet down we will probably ask you to leave. Or at least threaten to do so first and then force them out. If you're trying to 'cheat' the system (always needing to switch rooms, trying to get a free night, etc.) we will say something like 'I'm sorry but we obviously aren't able to accommodate you there is xyz hotel in town that might be able to.'"

What's the grossest thing you've come across?

"The housekeepers see the worst of it. Seriously. Some people are just disgusting. There was this one construction worker who must of inhaled something. I think he had already been in and out of a hospital but he was coughing up a murder scene worth of blood in his room/bathroom. They brought down some towels that we had to throw away because they were just saturated in blood. Pretty gross stuff. I probably don't know the half of what the housekeepers see week by week."

Worst child related experience and most stupid guest?

"The worst child-related experiences have all just been when their parents are stupid as f*ck. Letting their kids scream and run down hallways disturbing other guests and having to tell the parents multiple times that they need to quiet down or we'd have to ask them to leave. I never had to kick out a family because of their loud children but I've come close.

And the most stupid guest had to be when she (mid 20's) checked into our hotel under the assumption that our weekly rate was $120 per week. Not per night. My FDA told her that it was $120 per night as a weekly rate. (We're usually $150+) but if you stay for 7+ days we can cut deals. Anyways she came down later on first night complaining that credit card statement showed closer to $1000 instead of $120 for the authorization. She ended up staying that one night and left the next morning."

What is the most surprising thing a guest has done while staying at your hotel?

"Good question. A really nice surprise was this one time a few months ago a guest brought all some of the staff individual $50 gift cards to a really nice restaurant in town. I think he shelled out maybe $500 dollars in gift cards. Super nice guy, wealthy too apparently."

Do you get requests that are criminal in nature?

"We did have one guy who left his loaded hand gun here and asked if his 'uncle' could pick it up for him. We ended up just giving it to the police. Not sure what came out of that situation. Besides that I don't think so. There's definitely been some prostitutes who have come in I'm sure."

How do you get a free room?

"No."

Usher's Reason For Missing the One Love Manchester Concert Is Actually Really Sweet

Usher was among the list of esteemed musicians set to perform at Ariana Grande's One Love Manchester concert on Sunday, an event held to benefit and honor the victims of the bombing that occurred during Ariana's Manchester show on May 22. Along with Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, and Pharrell Williams, Usher was scheduled to hit the stage between Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, but ended up being a no-show. Manchester native Liam Gallagher performed in his place, and disappointed fans soon took to Twitter to ask, "Usher, where art thou?"

The singer did tweet out a link to the One Love Manchester live stream, but his absence begged a few questions: Was he sick at home? Did his flight get canceled? Was he an actual usher helping guests to their seats? The real reason for his not being there is a lot more understandable. According to an Instagram posted on Monday, Usher said that he missed the concert because one of his sons was having his first day "at Camp Kudzu, one of the few summer camps for kids living with diabetes." Aww. Read on for some fan reactions, as well as Usher's explanation.

Tom Holland Surprises Kids in the Hospital by Dressing Up as Spider-Man

Tom Holland channeled his superhero persona during his recent visit to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Aside from showing off his stunt skills by doing a flip in the hallway, the 20-year-old also shared a cute moment with a young girl as she got visibly starstruck over how cute he was without his mask. Of course, Tom isn't the only celebrity using his star power for good. Betty White's Reason For Never Remarrying After Her Husband's Death Is Truly Beautiful

Betty White has fit a whole lot of life into her 95 years, and she's still going strong. The star is a Hollywood icon, with roles in The Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show among her most popular. But of all her successes, the actress credits her marriage to Allen Ludden as her favorite. Betty, who was previously married to US Army pilot Dick Barker in 1945 and Hollywood agent Lane Allen from 1947 until 1949, met her third husband when she appeared as a guest on his game show, Password, in 1961. Ludden actually proposed to Betty twice before she finally accepted and the two were married in 1963.

Ludden tragically passed away from stomach cancer in 1981 (Betty was 59 years old at the time), and she has never remarried. When asked if she would ever consider tying the knot again during an interview with Larry King, Betty said, "Once you've had the best, who needs the rest?" During another interview with Piers Morgan, the star said that her first two unions were just a warm-up for the real thing. "I had 18 wonderful years with Allen Ludden," she said. "The first two were . . . rehearsals." We can all only hope to have a love like Betty and Allen's.

Brits Respond to the Suggestion "Britain Is Reeling" in Exactly the Way You'd Imagine

Following the attack on Saturday in London Bridge, the New York Times ran a story with a headline that suggested the nation was "reeling" following this and the other recent attacks in Manchester and Westminster. Unsurprisingly, Brits were quick to respond on twitter with typically dry wit, questioning the use of such a strong word.

The hashtag #ThingsThatLeaveBritainReeling quickly began to trend, with people sharing their own ideas of the kind of things that would really leave Brits reeling. They include the weather, tea, and manners, but none of them involve letting the actions of a few extremists leave a lasting mark on such a strong, resilient city. Here are just a few of the best contributions.

Recall Alert! Frozen Tuna Tested Positive For Hepatitis A

On June 1, the Food and Drug Administration released a statement about its ongoing investigation into potentially contaminated frozen tuna distributed by Hilo Fish. According to the report, the Hawaii Department of Health first discovered the contagious hepatitis A virus in samples of frozen tuna on May 1. Shortly after, on May 18, Hilo Fish Company launched an official recall of tuna from Sustainable Seafood Company and Santa Cruz Seafood, Inc.

So far, there haven't been any illnesses reported in conjunction with the potential frozen tuna contamination, but the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is advising anyone from Texas, Oklahoma, and California who hasn't been vaccinated for the hepatitis A virus and ate raw or under-cooked tuna products in the past two weeks to get treated with post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).

Keep reading to see a list of all of the frozen tuna products that have been recalled so far, and make sure to toss out anything that may be affected!

  • Frozen Yellowfin tuna steaks from Sustainable Seafood Company
  • Yellowfin tuna cubes from Santa Cruz Seafood
  • 8 ounce Tuna Steaks from Hilo Fish Company with an expiration date of Oct. 1, 2018
  • 15 pound Frozen Yellowfin tuna cubes with an expiration date of April 4, 2019

For extra precaution, the FDA has also provided a list of restaurants and other retail establishments that received the recalled frozen tuna. Better safe than sorry!

Orly’s New Collection Finally Makes It Possible For Muslims to Wear Nail Polish

Many Muslim men and women are not able to wear regular nail polish because it conflicts with prayer practices. The coats of polish are believed to create a barrier over the skin, which prevents water from touching every part of the body during ablutions, but Orly's new polish collection offers a solution. In an effort to bridge the diversity gap in the beauty world, the polish brand has teamed up with MuslimGirl to release a new collection of six halal-certified polishes, all of which let oxygen and moisture pass through the polish.

The Breathable line called #HalalPaint features adorably sassy polish names like Haram-Bae, The Perfect Amani-Cure, What the Fatima?, Ig-Noor the Haters, and more, named by MuslimGirl.com founder Amani Al-Khatahtbeh.

"This line is important because there are so many girls and young women who aren't represented in mainstream beauty," Azmia Magane, MuslimGirl.com chief of staff, said in a press release. "They either don't fit that definition or see things about them that are designed without them, instead of for them and by them. This is our way of bridging the gap."

And this collection is exactly that and more. While it created by Muslim women for Muslim women, all women (or men!) can wear it. In addition to the polishes being made of 100 percent halal ingredients, making them permitted under Islam law, they are made with great ingredients - like argan oil, pro-vitamin B5, and vitamin C - to promote healthy nails.

"Many of us are the girls who could never find our names on a keychain, so we wanted to make sure we provided that experience through the collection," Al-Khatahtbeh said. This collection is an incredible way to acknowledge the diverse religions that also exist in the beauty world. Although the polishes were made for Muslim women, anyone can wear them!

The six-piece collection is available for preorder on halalpaint.com for $49 and will ship on July 1, 2017. Keep reading to see photos of the stunning colors.

Why the Claim That "Britain Is Reeling" Is Just Wrong, According to an Actual Brit

In the aftermath of the terror attack that took place in London on June 3, various outlets fumbled in the way they referred to the UK's reaction to the violence. After The New York Times ran a headline that framed the nation as "still reeling," many outlets and anchors began to use the same phrase - which many Brits took issue with. On Twitter, a defiant hashtag emerged: #ThingsThatLeaveBritainReeling. On the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver also weighed in on the American media's clumsy coverage.

At the top of the segment, Oliver took a few minutes to address the terror attack and say a few words to those affected. "As a British person living in America, I feel compelled to address a certain theme that emerged through American coverage of this tragedy," he said. The show then played a few clips that exemplified the doomsday mentality many major outlets perpetuated.

Oliver wasn't having it. "In no way is Britain under siege," he insisted. "Is it upset? Yes. Is it pissed off? Oh, you f*cking bet it's pissed off. But to say it's under siege and that its people are reeling is to imply that it's somehow weak enough to be brought to its knees by three monumental assh*les. That, as an idea, is insulting."

Redefining Pride: How the Dyke March Makes Room For Anger

Jo Chiang is an actor and writer in NYC.

When news of the Pulse shooting broke around this time last year, I spent my entire morning reading the stories of the people we lost. And crying. I couldn't stop crying. Coming into my queerness in relative comfort and safety, it's easy for me to be cynical about Pride (with a corporate, colonized, capital "P"). I came out at a women's college in New York City, to parents who had evolved to be accepting, if a little unsure. The LGBTQIA+ community was cautiously beginning to thrive after decades of struggle I never had to experience. Pride was becoming so common, it almost felt cheap.

My first Summer out of the closet, I went to the New York City Pride Parade. It was a bright and brilliant experience, full of joy and friends and boundless energy. I went again the year after, but the event had lost a bit of its luster. I suddenly noticed how companies with dubious labor practices - or a history of discriminating against trans employees - were parading their "gay friendly" policies, as if it absolved them of any other obligation to do better or be better. I saw the NYPD walking with banners held high. Behind them followed the brown and black bodies they still committed violence against, when the news cameras were turned away. I knew there was pride on those streets. But it was a hollow pride. A pride that struggled to reconcile how a man could finally bring his boyfriend to parties at his insurance company, while, in the same breath, his company could deny coverage to folks living with HIV because that's what they'd call a "preexisting condition."

The next year, I did not go.

I was visiting my family in California when Pulse happened. There was no one in that straight, suburban neighborhood who saw Pulse as anything but another shooting, and I felt deeply alone. I wanted to be with friends, strangers, anyone who understood how my heart was breaking. How, despite the perceived banality of my personal battles, the certainty of my right and my community's right to live a full and honest life has always been - and continues to be - painfully tenuous.

The Pride parade was less than two weeks away, and in a few days I was going home. Once there, I would hold vigil at Stonewall Inn in an effort to find a way, any way to cope and process the loss I felt. But Pride didn't feel right. I couldn't bring myself to go. That's when the notification popped onto my feed: an invite to the 24th Annual New York City Dyke March.

I knew about the Dyke March. It was founded as a protest and not a parade. It does not seek a permit, it does not look for sponsors, it does not ask for permission. Allies are requested to remain on the sidewalk and are welcome to cheer and bear witness, but not to take up space. For a couple hours and about as many miles, we claimed the right to fill up all that space with the sheer audacity of our existence. I realized just how deeply I needed to feel invincible. I wanted to declare my right to live, unconditionally, unapologetically.

The day of the Dyke March, I met up with a few friends in front of the Bryant Park library. The march was already underway, but it stretched for blocks as far as the eye could see, and we quickly slipped in to join the chanting crowd. I could feel the energy of the marchers in my bones. There was anger and an edge, but there was also joy.

Young mothers (with babies dressed in slogan-bearing onesies bouncing on their hips) pounded the pavement beside old-school butches, radiant with their graying undercuts and fading tattoos. A plump, bespectacled auntie motored next to the marching band on her mobility scooter, rainbow flag jauntily streaming behind her. Trans activist groups raised defiant signs into the air, daring the spectators hanging out of windows to deny them their justice. A sign here reminded us that "Black Lives Matter. White Silence Kills." Another asked Olivia Benson to marry her. A flock of queens crowed out a very heretical rewrite of "God Save the Queen" from the steps of a street-side church. Young, anxious-looking college students, fresh out of the closet, cried and laughed and sang along.

We all carried our tragedies - Pulse, yes, but also heartbreaks and breakdowns and broken families. We laid them bare on the streets as an offering, maybe, or some kind of proof that we are still here. We had so many reasons to be afraid. And yet we marched. I don't want to forget the terrifying joy that comes of being proud in the face of that fear.

Those we lost at Pulse were stolen in the midst of their joy. And no matter how angry and exhausted and heartbroken and powerless I feel, I never want to let that joy go. It's a costly joy that can thrive despite knowing all that we have to lose. It's a precious pride that allows us to resist and fight and, above all, live. Yes, sometimes pride is rainbow flags, and glitter, and revelers dancing on floats. But sometimes it's also moments of silence, raised voices, raised fists, and holding your partner's hand on the street. And that kind of pride? There's nothing common about it.
