9 Ways Prince William Is Keeping His Mother's Memory Alive Within His Own Family
Prince William was just 14 years old when his mother, Princess Diana, was tragically killed in a car accident in August 1997. Now that he and his brother Harry are adults, they've been opening up more and more about how their mother's death has impacted their lives. Recently, William revealed that what perhaps upsets him most about her absence is that she never got to meet his wife, Kate Middleton, or their kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. "I would love her to have met Catherine and to have seen the children grow up," he told British GQ. "It makes me sad that she won't, that they will never know her."
In addition to more modern parenting traditions like bringing his children on royal engagements, sharing official birthday portraits, and making sure George and Charlotte lead lives that are as normal as possible, William has also made sure to honor his mother's legacy in other, smaller ways, from where he lives to the services he uses to his choice of gifts for Kate Middleton. Keep reading to see nine of them now.
A Funny Thing Happened When Chris Christie Defended Trump's Alleged Comments to Comey
Christie floats the first defense: Trump considers chats w Comey "normal New York City conversation."

On Wednesday, June 7, former FBI director James Comey released a jaw-dropping, seven-page opening statement to the Senate about his relationship with President Trump, one day before his highly anticipated hearing before Congress. Comey will reportedly testify that Trump did, in fact, ask him to drop his investigation into former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, who was under investigation for misleading Vice President Mike Pence and lying about his ties with Russia before his resignation.
In an interview with MSNBC, New Jersey governor Chris Christie came to Trump's defense and chalked up the president's request that Comey drop the Federal Bureau's investigation into Michael Flynn as "normal New York City conversation" - but the internet wasn't having it. Immediately after the interview aired, Twitter users weighed in with their own versions of "normal New York City conversation" that are both hilarious and brutally honest, just like the city itself. Keep reading to see what we mean.

The Powerful Way Makeup Helped This Woman With a Feeding Tube "Feel Gorgeous"
Emily Jones is just like many aspiring makeup artists on Instagram - she has long lashes, perfectly penciled eyebrows, and loves a good matte lip. But unlike others, Emily has a rare tissue disease called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (type 3) and has a feeding tube taped to the side of her face. While she was undeniably "self-conscious" because of her disease, the 22-year-old woman has credited makeup for helping bring back her confidence. . . and she's got some serious makeup skills!
As a self-proclaimed "aspiring makeup artist," one may wonder if a feeding tube taped to the side of her face gets in the way of her glittery looks, but Emily told Allure she works around it. "I create looks around my tube by leaving a little bit of a gap around the edges so the tape doesn't come off or come loose," she said. "I try to put lots of drama on my eyes, the other side of my face or on my lips to detract from the tube. But the tube is a part of me, and I'm grateful for it as it and the nourishment it gives me when I can't keep anything down myself."
Just three years ago, she developed a love for makeup after watching tons of YouTube tutorials. Emily credits Carli Bybel and Nikkie Tutorials for not only teaching her how to get a bomb winged eye, but for helping her believe in her own skills. And she plans to start her own YouTube channel one day!
"Makeup means everything to me it gives me the confidence to be myself without the judgment of others," she said. "Makeup takes away the self-consciousness I feel because of my NG tube and makes me feel gorgeous! [Highlighter] makes me glow and brings out confidence and happiness in me."
By sharing her love for makeup on Instagram, Emily is inspiring others to embrace their own differences and do whatever makes them happy.

Shake It Up: Homemade Single-Serving Ice Cream (in a Bag!)
Did you know July is National Ice Cream Month? This may be the tastiest month of the year! While there may be plenty of tubs of ice cream in the freezer, everyone will be screaming for more after making this quick and easy single-serving homemade ice cream!
With just a few basic ingredients and a bit of shaking, the whole family will be enjoying individual bowls of ice cream that can be topped with everyone's favorite additions. Along with making a cold treat, kids are exploring science concepts as they watch the creamy liquid turn into a seriously tasty solid.
What You'll Need:
- 1 1/2 cups half and half
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup rock salt
- 3 cups ice
- 1 gallon-size zip-top bag
- 1 pint-size zip-top bag
- Dish towel
What You Do:
- Start by filling the gallon-size zip-top bag with half the ice. Invite your child to sprinkle half the rock salt over the ice and then place the pint-size zip-top bag inside.
- Now carefully measure and pour the half and half into the small pint-size bag along with the vanilla and sugar. Make sure the top is tightly sealed!
- Pack the rest of the ice around the cream-filled baggie and then sprinkle with the rest of the rock salt. Zip the top, wrap in the dish towel, and get ready to shake.
- While your child is shaking away, take a moment to chat about what role the salt plays in the homemade ice cream making experiment. Without the salt, the ice wouldn't dip below 32F, which isn't cold enough for making the ice cream. The freezing point of salt water is lower than regular water, so adding all that salt is an essential part of making the cold treat!
- Enlist your youngster to keep track of the time and check the bag after one to two minutes of good shaking. Creamy ice cream should be awaiting inside!
- Remove the ice cream from the bag of salted ice and enjoy - straight from the bag.

Every Parent Needs to Read This Mom's Warning About Her "Unlit" Fire Pit
It has been three weeks since Tristan Cormier was admitted to Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, Canada, for horrific second- and third-degree burns that covered his entire body. Now that the 2-year-old is allowed to go home, his family is opening up about their story in hopes of saving other families from this pain.
According to Tristan's grandmother, Sheila LeBlanc, his parents were cleaning up their yard and put some of the debris in a backyard fire pit. The family then roasted marshmallows before putting the fire out with water and going inside for the evening.
The next day, Tristan was playing with his grandfather when he tripped while pushing one of his trucks and fell hands-first into the fire pit. Even though it had been around 16 hours since they had put out the fire, and he was picked up within 30 seconds of the fall, Tristan was severely burned. "My father was holding my son frantically and all I could see was just ashes everywhere and I instantly as a mom just took him inside and called 911," Tristan's mom, Shelley Cormier, told Global News.
Tristan underwent surgery for the burns and had skin removed from his back to replace the damaged tissue on his arm and hand. Tristan's family removed the fire pit and replaced it with a play structure for when Tristan is feeling better, and his mom shared what she wished she had known on Facebook Live.
"[Fire] can burn up to 24 to 48 hours afterwards, depending on the temperature outside and the type of fire pit you're using," she said. "It was definitely a shock to see."
According to Brian Levesque, a fire prevention officer with the City of Edmonton, people don't realize just how hot fires can remain, even after you think it's been extinguished. "If it looks like it is out but they're not 100 percent sure, the best thing to do is to add more water, give it a really good stir, add more water, stir it again, and add more water. Just to be sure, to make sure it's really well flooded," he told Global News. "You don't want any smoke. You don't want to hear any popping. You don't want to hear any hissing. You don't want to see any steam coming off the wood anymore."
As Tristan continues to recover, Shelley hopes that people share her his story. "I would never ever, ever, ever want another parent to have to go and witness the pain I've seen my child in, and I would never want a child to experience that pain," she said. "So just to be really cautious."
Proof That Pippa Middleton Could Give Pro Athletes a Run For Their Money
Even before we heard about Pippa Middleton scaling Sydney Harbour Bridge on her active honeymoon, we knew she was a sporty gal - but we didn't realize quite how sporty until we started adding up the amount of physical challenges she's undertaken over the past few years. And there are a lot - which means she's had to stay in peak physical condition in order to run, cycle, ski, swim, and climb her way around the world. Along the way, she's shared many of the diet and fitness tips that have helped her undertake at least one extreme physical challenge every year (including five in 2016 alone).
How Pippa Stays Fit
From her list of accomplishments (see below), it appears that Pippa could take on any challenge, but her favorite activities include running, walking, and tennis. When she's not training, she reportedly swears by four key exercises to keep her toned - ladders, squats, wall pushes, and planks - but she kicks her workouts up a notch ahead of race day. In order to prepare for a four-mile swim competition, Pippa trained by swimming lengths in a 40-foot pool and in open water when she could, as well as running. And to get ready for a cross-country ski race in 2012, she arrived at the site a week early to get in plenty of practice.
Pippa's Diet Tips
Pippa focuses on protein over carbs when she's preparing for competition. Before the Bosphorus Cross swimming race in 2014, she revealed: "A lot of people swear by carb-loading in the run-up to an event but it doesn't really work for me, so I just up my protein intake."
Her portion sizes also reflect her training status. After completing a 33-mile ski race in 2016, she told Hello: "I also increase my portion sizes based on my training level, with lots of brown rice, lentils, quinoa, and sweet potato, and for breakfast, porridge and rye toast. A week or so before an event, I cut out alcohol, refined sugar, and processed foods."

Leonardo DiCaprio Has Never Done This With Any Other Girlfriend But Gisele Bündchen
Remember that one time Leonardo DiCaprio brought a girlfriend as his date to the Oscars? Yeah, we almost didn't either. But it really happened! The Hollywood heartthrob was dating supermodel Gisele Bündchen when he received a best actor nomination for his role in The Aviator back in 2005. Instead of bringing his mom, Irmelin (or his BFF Kate Winslet) as he normally does, he brought Gisele. Dressed in a white strapless Dior gown, Gisele was all smiles as she practically floated down the red carpet on Leo's arm. Unfortunately, Leo went home without an award that night - as we all know, he didn't end up winning his first Oscar until 2016.
Leo and Gisele dated on and off between 1999 and 2005, and while their split was reportedly amicable, Gisele was the one who called it quits. "We know what we had. We were very young, and we grew together in a lot of ways," she said in a 2009 Vanity Fair interview. "We were just not meant to be boyfriend and girlfriend, but I respect him enormously, and I wish him nothing but the best." To this day, Gisele is the only girlfriend Leo has ever brought as an award show date. Keep reading to relive the historic moment.
Pope Francis Urges World to Accept Immigrants and "Discarded People" in TED Talk
Pope Francis, arguably the coolest pope in the Catholic Church's history, is disseminating his cold, hard knowledge again. Appearing on an unannounced TED Talk from the Vatican on April 25, Pope Francis shared a message of caution - coupled with optimism - with viewers of the conference.
TED Talks typically revolve around three topics: technology, entertainment, and design. The pope's address focused on harnessing technology's potential to unite people for a collective benefit as opposed to the individualistic society its spawned.
"How wonderful would it be if the growth of scientific and technological innovation would come along with more equality and social inclusion?" the pope questioned. "How wonderful would it be, while we discover faraway planets, to rediscover the needs of the brothers and sisters orbiting around us?"
The Catholic Church's leader also echoed his previous statements about immigration and the necessity for a communal society. "I, myself, was born in a family of migrants; my father, my grandparents, like many other Italians, left for Argentina and met the fate of those who are left with nothing," Francis explained. "I could have very well ended up among today's 'discarded' people. And that's why I always ask myself, deep in my heart: 'Why them and not me?'"
Later in the video call, the pope bluntly criticized absolute power's danger and the destruction that is attached to it. "The more powerful you are, the more your actions will have an impact on people, the more responsible you are to act humbly," Pope Francis warned. "If you don't, your power will ruin you, and you will ruin the other."
Channeling his familiar lighthearted presence, Pope Francis repeated an Argentinian fable to illustrate his point. "There is a saying in Argentina: 'Power is like drinking gin on an empty stomach,'" he chided.
Perhaps most eloquently, the pope reiterated a familiar parable - that no man is an island - to emphasize the power of community. "I would love it if this meeting could help to remind us that we all need each other, none of us is an island, an autonomous and independent 'I,' separated from the other," the pope said. "We can only build the future by standing together, including everyone."

Health Is Wealth: How Good Health Can Increase Your Net Worth
For many years, researchers have tried to draw the connection between health and wealth. It's been stated that the healthier a person is, the more wealth they can attain. In fact, according to a Florida State University psychology professor, exhibiting self-control in one area of a person's life affects others, so if you build up discipline in your eating habits and workout routines, you can gain the discipline needed to manage your money better. Sounds logical, right? But what if you're looking to go beyond just managing your money better? How can you build wealth by staying healthy? Keep reading for five ways that your health can help to increase your net worth.
1. Keeps Your Brain Sharp
Success is not a matter of chance or luck; it's based on hard work, dedication, and the ability to execute the right decisions at the right times. Whether you work a corporate job or are an entrepreneur, many of the business decisions you make will require that you have a sharp analytical mind. Feeding your body the right nutrients is vital in providing your brain with the nourishment it needs to function at its full capacity. Conversely, feeding your body the wrong things can make you sluggish and slow down your ability to make the right decisions needed to succeed, survive, and thrive in business.
2. Gives You More Energy
For the most part, building wealth and maintaining a level of success takes more than working 40 hours a week. At the end of it all, you may be feeling fatigue and want to take a power nap to recoup just to find yourself even more tired than when you began. Well, according to WebMD, a walk or light jog may be better than a nap for boosting energy and fighting fatigue. Other studies have also shown that morning workouts are best because they help your body produce more adrenaline at the beginning of the day, which helps you power through your routine to give you more energy throughout the day.
3. Keeps You Out of the Hospital
I may be stating the obvious, but there is no way you can build wealth and increase your net worth if you're sick. The foods you decide to eat and the amount of exercise you do will have a direct effect on your health. Eating right and exercising will not only keep you out of the hospital, but it will also keep you away from needing to take medications that usually have many side effects, possibly including fatigue (among other things that are counter to what you need to be on top of your game).
4. Teaches You Perseverance
As stated earlier, maintaining good habits in one area may trickle down to other areas in your life. It's no secret that on your journey to greatness many obstacles may try to stop you from achieving your goals. However, you must keep going when the going gets tough. This level of perseverance can be taught and trained. Will Smith once said that conquering the treadmill is necessary to conquering life. He explains that the same mind that tells you that you can't go on while you are running is the same voice that tries to convince you to give up in life. If you learn how to silence that voice on a daily basis, you can build the grit that you need to get through some tough days in business.
5. Relieves Stress
Have you heard of endorphins? If not, endorphins are among the brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters, which serve as natural pain and stress fighters. Endorphins cause what people who run refer to as a "runner's high." It's literally a body chemical that makes you feel happy and less stressed. And do you know how to activate your endorphins? You guessed it: the right food and exercise! Maintaining a good diet and workout regimen will not only keep you strong physically, but mentally as well. We all know what stress can do to our decision-making abilities, and while we continue on our journey to building wealth, we want to make sure that we stay in the right mindset. A stress-free life can literally and figuratively increase your net worth. So next time you need a reason to improve your diet or exercise routine, remember that health is wealth!

This Is What a Panic Attack Really Feels Like
Unwanted adrenaline, unwelcome thoughts. All rationality flies out the window and what's left is the certainty that it's only going to get so much worse. My body fails, my heart races, my throat closes, my vision gets dark, my stomach falls to my feet. I don't want to be touched - but sometimes someone's touch is the only thing that grounds me. I need to be grounded. I need a cold breeze on my overheated face, I need a hand to grip tightly, I need you to be patient. Please be patient.
Panic attacks are unwelcome dark clouds that threaten to block the sun from my days. They are something I've dealt with off and on throughout my adulthood, with wonderful years of relief from them followed by terrible onslaughts of attacks that last for days, weeks, and even months. They leave me feeling like a hostage in my own body, but time and a ton of effort has taught me ways to fight them, and I have hope that one day I'll be able to rid myself of them for good.
Everyone experiences panic attacks differently, and physical symptoms can vary quite a bit. The common factor is that to those suffering from panic attacks, they are very, very real - and they are horrible. For me, panic attacks are very physical and often genuinely make me feel as though I am actually dying, because my body reacts so intensely and so tangibly to the effects of the disorder. Here are some of the physical effects panic attacks can have on someone.
Cold sweats wash over you.
A chill goes through my body. It feels like ice water is running through my veins, but I also get flashes of heat that causes a cold sweat all over my body.
Hands tingle, your body shakes, limbs go numb.
Pins and needles start to creep up from the tips of your fingers. Parts of your face go numb. There have been times I have held out my hand in front of my face and watched it shake uncontrollably as the inexplicable terror took over. In the midst of a panic attack, it's hard to believe that the sensations you're feeling physically are a direct result of the attack and not from some other terrible threat. The physical effects may be your body's reaction to what your mind is going through, but that does not mean that the physical symptoms aren't actually happening - because they truly are.
In the moment, it's very hard to have a rational thought.
Anyone who experiences panic attacks has probably been told at some point during an episode to "calm down." And we will all tell you the same thing: it's not that simple at all. I feel like I'm dying, and in that moment of absolute terror, nothing you can tell me in your cool, calm, collected voice can convince me otherwise.
Waves of nausea roll in.
For me, one of the first signs that a panic attack is about to occur is the sinking of my stomach. I get extremely nauseous - some people actually get physically sick during an attack. It's like the feeling you get when you miss a step or go over a big hill in a car - a dread fills my body, starting from the bottom of stomach, and the fear rises all the way up to the back of my throat, which is about the time I start to feel like my throat is closing and that I can't breathe.
Breathing is shallow, difficult, and sometimes even painful.
There's nothing more terrifying than attempting to take a deep breath to calm yourself to discover that you are only able to take shallow, sometimes painful gasps of air, which just further convinces you that your chest is caving in, your throat is closing up, or your lungs are collapsing.
You may feel dizzy or like you're passing out.
One of the scariest symptoms of a panic attack is extreme dizziness or the impending fear that you're going to black out. This sensation could be a result of gasping for air and hyperventilating, which can lead an intake of excess oxygen and a deprivation of carbon dioxide in your blood.
You're convinced that you're having a heart attack.
I'm in my late 20s, healthy, and active. None of these facts change the certainty I feel that I am suffering a heart attack in the moment. My chest seizes up and sharp pains shoot up and around my rib cage. My heart races; it feels like a hummingbird has taken flight inside my chest and the rapid beating of its wings is a chaotic reminder of the state I'm in.
It seems like an undeniable truth that the world - or at least that your world - is ending.
Panic is suffocating. Suffering from a panic attack is like being deathly claustrophobic, then forced into a box where all sides are slowly closing in on you. How are you supposed to "calm down" when walls are coming to crush you, while all you can do is sit back and wait? There is a sense of urgency I feel when I'm having an attack - to run, to stay still, to curl up in a ball and wait for something to get better (or worse). Despite that sense of urgency, none of the courses of action feel quite right, until the attack has finally passed and I can breathe again.
When the attacks are over, your body can feel physically drained.
The acute panic attack usually last several minutes, but the effects of the attack can be felt for hours after. I often feel like I've just climbed a mountain, or I feel that bone-deep tired associated with the flu or pulling an all-nighter in college. Because my muscles are so tense during an attack, once the adrenaline wears off and I am able to calm down and breathe again, the exertion from the episode leaves me feeling weak and exhausted.
All of these symptoms are very real, but there are ways to work through panic attacks, as well as ways to prevent them, that you can learn. Panic and anxiety disorders don't have to rule your life! I'm not going to let them rule mine if I have anything to say about it.

16 Signs You're an Old Latina Millennial
If you are Latinx born in the '80s, then you're still considered a millennial. But you probably already know that if you try to talk about what you grew up watching on TV and obsessing over to a "young millennial" (born in the '90s or later), they'll look at you as if you have a second head.
As an "old millennial" (we mean that in the nicest way), you grew up drooling over Chayanne, not the boys in RBD. You experienced all the feelings while listening to Luis Miguel, not Sin Bandera. See where we're going? Keep reading to find other signs you're an old Latina millennial.
See How Lancome's New Mascara Took My Lashes From Frail to Full of Life
Unlike other self-professed lash junkies, I do not wear mascara every day. Because of constant eye rubbing and habitual lash picking, I try to avoid enhancing my fringe regularly. I also find some mascaras to be a pain to remove each night.
However, I do appreciate a full, flirty lash when I need to amplify my look, and my makeup bag is never without a tube of mascara. So when I got my hands on Lancome's new Monsieur Big formula ($25), I was enticed. I had been meaning to replace my dried-out Better Than Sex tube, so it was the perfect time to put a new formula to the test.
The morning of a presentation at my old middle school, I needed my lashes to "wow," so I pulled Monsieur Big out of its packaging and got swiping. Within applying the first coat, I could tell I would be obsessed. Inside of the sleek, black tube is a fat, fluffy brush that happens to be Lancome's biggest yet. The wand is coated in a creamy, onyx formula that lengthens and volumizes your fringe in one fell swoop. The brush is also composed of soft fibers that hug and coat each lash. This makes it easy for you to achieve a faux-falsie look from root to tip.
Before applying mascara, I typically tight line my upper waterline to make my lashes look thicker - but I didn't have to with Monsieur Big. Instead, I carefully wiggled the brush at the base of my lashes and distributed the product through the ends. I was left with longer, fuller, wispy lashes that only required two coats.
The most exciting part, for me at least, was that after a long day of work, I was able to come home and easily remove my mascara. I only needed one eye makeup remover wipe to get off most of it and followed up with cleanser when I washed my face. But I knew Monsieur Big truly passed the test when I woke up the following morning without raccoon eyes (a major win in my book).
I'll definitely be keeping this in my makeup bag to spruce up my look before Summer events. You can also snag a tube for yourself when it launches on June 17 at lancome-usa.com. In the meantime, see how my lashes went from flat to flirtatious in the photo ahead.
McDonald's Soft Serve Looks About a Million Times Tastier in an Oreo Cone
A classic soft-serve ice cream cone from McDonald's must be among life's many simple pleasures. In the United States, that soft serve ice cream is typically presented in just your average crispy cone. Meanwhile, at McDonald's locations throughout Mexico, soft-serve ice cream can be enjoyed in a freaking Oreo cone!
The ice cream treat is officially called the Cono Oreo. After a little Instagram investigating, we learned that the Cono Oreo is in fact a pretty popular menu item, as it should be. In some pictures, the vanilla ice cream also seems to be topped with cookie crumbs, but that doesn't appear to be the typical order. We also learned that certain Hong Kong locations serve purple sweet potato ice cream in the Oreo cone, resulting in a combination we'd also love to try.

How Sleeping With Other People Makes Me Love Being Married
"Do you think I'm the kind of person who can pull off saying the word 'lover'?" I ask my husband over coffee one Thursday morning a few weeks ago. I am sitting on the couch in my underwear, watching him flip casually through his phone. He is probably checking the OKCupid app, seeing if any cute girls messaged him back.
"No, absolutely not. So embarrassing," he says, grimacing at me like I'm a lunatic.
"But . . . what else do I call him?" I start trying on names. "My man friend. Person-with-whom-I-sleep-with-and-share-common-interests. Side piece." I frown. "Boyfriend and f*ck buddy both miss the mark, but in different ways. What's the male version of mistress? I hate them all." I sip thoughtfully and stretch my toes to a point. "I like lover; it's very French."
My husband mimes gagging behind his coffee cup, but I ignore him. He is not a very romantic person - more of the sardonic, raised-eyebrow type, which is why he is my best friend and I'm glad I married him. I'm not terribly sentimental either, and we are perfectly matched in that we are more likely to play practical jokes on each other than stare into the other's eyes. But since deciding to pursue relationships outside our marriage, I'm also craving a little drama - something foreign, sexy, passionate, and intense. I could certainly get used to the idea of having a lover. A bearded lover. A handsome one with tattooed forearms and soft brown eyes. That is, if I can bring myself to say the word with a certain amount of finesse.
I arch my back absently and squeeze my bare legs together, creating a nice pressure, mouthing the word, seeing how it feels. My index and middle finger rub together where once there would have been a cigarette. I stare dreamily out the window and my mind flashes through mental images from a few nights ago. Hands tangled in my hair. Teeth on the skin of my neck. A voice whispering a husky "baby" into my ear.
My husband looks up from his phone and sees me staring stupidly into space. He shoots me a lopsided grin. I give him the finger. Today is going to be a good day.
----
My marriage has been officially open for over two years, but only recently have we decided to act on it.
The topic arose for the first time about a year previous to that, after our heads nearly collided while simultaneously scoping out an especially cute girl. This happened a lot. I identify as sexually fluid and have long been attracted to women. I even drunkenly kissed a few in high school and college. Sadly though, I spent most of my formative years trying to convince frowning art boys to worship me, yielding a lot of angst but predictably poor results. And so it remains: I have never had an adult sexual or romantic relationship with a woman, even though I've wanted one for a long time.
He knew that being with me meant at the very least talking about girls who I found attractive so that I could act out in fantasy what I never had managed to do in person. But even though I had fallen deeply in love with him and wanted to commit to a life together, there was still a part of me that felt a weird sense of grief at the idea of never sleeping with a woman in real life.
I faced the choice to suck it up and accept that monogamy is the cost of committed love, or . . . be honest about my fear that being with him meant I could never experience this profound thing I longed for.
I chose the second one.
It was nerve-wracking. I was telling him, essentially, that I was worried he would never be enough for me. I told him on faith that we would be able to figure it out together, unsure if a solution was possible or if this meant we would, eventually, break up.
But, my now-husband and then-boyfriend, this "guy's guy" from a traditional, religious working-class background, who comes home with filthy hands more often than not, turned out to be super into exploring this new way of life with me. Instead of tending towards jealousy or possessiveness, as had many of my past boyfriends, he laughed a little and said, "That would be crazy. Let's talk about it."
We did. For over a year. We talked about what we found exciting (sex, friendship) and what seemed weird and gray and scary (sleepovers, emotional attachments, commitments). We had exactly zero reference to contextualize a healthy open relationship or language to discuss boundaries. We thought of our friends - a rumor that one of them was polyamorous with one primary partner and multiple lovers, that another couple regularly invited guests into their bed. How do they know how to do it, we wondered.
As newbs without a community, we had to seek one out. We listened to the Savage Lovecast in which Dan Savage doles out relationship advice to many "monogamish" couples. We did online research about how couples manage multiple partners, "entwinement levels," boundaries, labels, lingo, and so much more.* We came out to our close friends who were in open relationships and asked them, respectfully, if they would tell us everything about their sex lives. We figured if it worked for other people, it could work for us.
We were nervous. We knew there were a lot of potential unknowns, like what if we say we are comfortable with a sleepover but then start to panic at the thought? It seemed like our only option was to acknowledge that boundaries shift, listen to each other without reservation, and be as honest as possible a day at a time. And of course, we set up some hard limits:
Everything must be discussed beforehand. Our relationship comes first. All questions must be answered. Must practice safe sex. No falling in love. This is how it began.
-----
Several years, our engagement, a brief flirtation, a ridiculously fun wedding, a steady hookup, a couple of third bases, a one-night stand, one lover-maybe-boyfriend, and about 10,000 honest conversations later, here we are. He is in a relationship - a term used broadly - with a brilliant grad student 10 years his junior, and I am . . . figuring out what to call the bearded fellow with the eyes who knows exactly where to pinch and sends me home recorded songs when I want to feel some-kinda-way.
Our framework is seemingly ever changing. We have learned not to take our first reactions too seriously. One week after exclaiming that he could never in a million years invite his girlfriend over to sleep in my bed (the very idea!), I realized with great surprise that I didn't care. It felt like a collision of the instinct to protect my territory and the growing feeling that the idea of ownership - the insistence that what is mine cannot be hers - is arbitrary and somewhat useless. I smirked at myself for self-righteously trying to protect my bed as a sacrosanct symbol of marital love while trying to revise what marriage means in the first place. It was the first of many moments that reinforced in me that my marriage exists solely within the heads and hearts of my husband and myself and nowhere physical - not in our shared spaces, not even our bodies.
That Friday we spent the night apart for the first time - he at a hotel with the girl, me at home with the guy. The next morning, my husband came home and they met. I found myself gazing huge-eyed at two handsome, kind men as they sipped coffee and talked about motorcycles. I giggled nervously and they looked at me. I blinked back. "WHO WANTS EGGS?" I yelled, probably startling both of them, trying to find something to do with my hands.
What a time to be alive.
Of course, the reality of acting on well-laid plans is not without its anxieties. My husband's girlfriend is quite young and enviably pretty, and I both joked and grumbled about that when it started. "Oh, she's 21? That's nice," I commented primly, trying not to roll my eyes. Now that they've gotten to know each other a bit better, it turns out that she is fun and weird in precisely the way he likes, and he is enjoying himself. I have stopped sucking my teeth when he talks about her, and laugh appreciatively when she sends him videos culled from the darkest corners of Reddit.
And then there is the fact I have become rather attached to my guy, which was initially considered the uncrossable boundary and continues to be a difficult road to navigate. My husband wishes things hadn't progressed so quickly, and he isn't wrong. But he does not ask me to end it, even though he could, probably because that would be the path of least resistance. Instead he is hanging tight, choosing to be honest about his insecurities, to ask me for my attention when he feels like he needs me. We are not looking back at what I should have done differently; we are looking ahead, figuring out how to live with this new person in my life.
Why? I'm not sure. He loves me deeply, I know that. He wants me to be happy. He has a surprising and sweet trust in my guy, who is abundantly respectful of our marriage. He also embraces the opportunity to challenge himself and move through fear. He is brave, and it is for this reason that I know I made the right choice in marrying him.
Every day, I trust more that doubt, jealousy, and resentment are not going to kill me or my relationship, and what little we feel of them is worth the incredible joy that comes from pushing my relationship outside of its comfort zone. What I know now is that feelings will always shift - that's a fact. And they most often will pass if I share about them. So instead of doing what I thought strong women did and swallowing my insecurities, I talk about them in blunt terms with my husband. What if you stop wanting me, and what if we start to hate each other, and what if you fall out of love with me but are too afraid to tell me, and what if . . . My husband listens, nods, understands me a bit better, kisses me, tells me he loves me, and the fears start to fade away.
And for all this gooey heart sharing, there is so much heady adrenaline. We are reveling in the giddy haze of new experiences and great sex. We are growing closer every day. Seeing my husband get nervous over writing a text to a girl is both sweet and a strange new intimacy. He played it cool when we first got together, so naturally I have never seen this side of him before, this playful mix of arrogance and uncertainty. I get to see him through another person's eyes, enjoying the victories of flirtation as well as the geeky excitement of not knowing if someone likes you.
We lay together late at night and he touches the two bruises on my left arm, perfect fingerprints that he didn't leave. I smell his hair, which smells like the cigarettes she smokes. We kiss each other a little deeper. We are bound together in this experience - unfaltering in our bond, happy more often than scared.
And as for the girls: I am not nearly finished on that front. Back to OKCupid.
It should be said that while my husband and I situate ourselves as "ethically polyamorous" - meaning we have relationships with multiple people and ensure all parties are aware and consenting - our experience is by no means representative of the vast diversity of polyamorous arrangements out there. While we may not be able to call up our grandparents and chat about extramarital dates, our cisgender, heterosexual(ish) status lends our story some cultural legibility - and therefore acceptance. That is not the case for all poly folks, and their stories are important too. For more information about radical nonmonogamy and the important ways it can create healthy partnerships, click here. It's worth it.

George Clooney's Proud Parents Reveal New Details About His "Gorgeous" Twins
George Clooney has remained pretty quiet about the details surrounding his twins with wife Amal, but his parents, not so much. After George's mom, Nina, revealed the sexes of the babies to Vogue back in February, she and George's dad, Nick, spoke to Fox 19 reporter Tricia Macke about their "gorgeous, beautiful" grandchildren just a day after they were born. "They are gorgeous, and Nina swears the little boy has George's nose," Nick said after speaking to George and Amal over Skype. "They have dark hair, they look great. Amal is superwoman, she is just amazing. She was telling us just last week that she was as big as a house, but of course for her that would be a very small house."
Nick also revealed that he and Nina previously doubted whether George would ever have children of his own, adding,"When we met Amal, we got that figured out in a hurry. Just as I did, George married up. Both George and Amal are doing wonderfully well . . . and now, at long last, so are we." George and Amal named their new bundles of joy Alexander and Ella, which are way better than "Casa" and "Amigos" (the names of George's Casamigos tequila brand), which George recently joked that Amal had forbidden him to do.

After seeing the new Wonder Woman film, we're all planning to dress as the kickass hero for Halloween. Beauty blogger Nikkie Tutorials is no exception and showed us exactly how to transform into the comic-book character to celebrate the girl-power-filled film.
Nikkie decided to go the 2D route and applied her makeup in the style of a comic rather than modeled after the Wonder Woman from the film. Using black and white liquid liners, Nikkie transformed herself into the heroine. The results are ultra impressive, and we're starting to practice the technique now to prepare for our next cosplay opportunity.

What's Even Cuter Than a Tiny House? A Tiny Dome, That's What
Check out the latest construction to best tiny houses: the adorable dome homes coming out of Smartdome Constructions, a Slovenian company committed to making housing that is sleek, eco-friendly, and portable. The tiny, geometric abodes can be set down virtually anywhere, reducing the need to clear much land. So, if you've found a plot of land that you love but the terrain is uneven or not cleared enough to squeeze in a full-size home, just plunk down a dome and call it a day.
And you really can do the plunking - dome homes are DIY. The domes are elevated above the land on adjustable steel legs, and the modules are comprised of galvanized steel and a moisture-resistant timber framework sealed with UV-resistant rubber. Inhabitat points out that due to its modular design, "the homes can be easily expanded, dismantled, and transported to new locations with little technical knowledge needed." According to Zeljko Hocevar of Smartdome, "It's the first printed dodecahedron structure in the world." It's like a space-age construction that quietly thrives in the middle of a forest.
There is the question of cost-effectiveness, however, as tiny homes don't always equal major savings, and the dome home is not uber cheap. For approximately $22,500, you can order the basic model of a Smartdome home, which measures around 270 square feet - but that doesn't factor in the cost of shipping from Slovenia, nor does the basic model include a bathroom or kitchen.
So, it may not make financial sense for everyone, but for nature-lovers, tiny-home enthusiasts, and DIY warriors who have a plot of land available, dome just may be where the heart is.

Trader Joe's New IPA Is Gloriously Tasty and Ridiculously Cheap
Put the PBR and Tecate cans down, folks. There's a hoppier, boozier brew option that's easy on the wallet and taste buds. Trader Joe's newly released Boatswain American IPA comes in a six-pack of 12 ounce cans for only $5, and it's actually good!
My IPA-loving husband couldn't resist picking up a pack after spotting them during his last Trader Joe's run. We cracked open a can that evening while waiting for friends and our pizzas to arrive and instantly regretted not picking up more. The bold flavor of the hops was tamed with a heavy dose of malt, resulting in a mellow IPA with traces of bittersweet floral and citrus notes. Despite being easy to drink - even with heavy food like pizza - this beer has a boozy kick. I felt surprisingly buzzed after the first can, which makes sense when you consider the 6.7 percent alcohol volume. After friends arrived, we noticed that the Boatswain American IPA cleared out of the fridge faster than some of the stronger, more classic IPAs, like Sierra Nevada.
If you're looking for a cheap beer with big flavor and high alcohol level, you'll want to add this to your list of new Trader Joe's products to try. At just $5 for a six-pack, the risk factor is pretty low. It's the perfect beer to keep on hand for hosting BBQs but is also good for camping, poolside drinking, and any other Summer BYOB occasion you can think of.
