Why 1997 Will Eternally Rule as an Amazing Year in Music

It's hard to believe that we were bopping our heads 20 years ago to songs like "I'll Be Missing You," "The Freshmen," and "Coco Jamboo," to name a few (shout out if you remember the last one well, like I do). It was a magical year for the music industry, in that 1997 was still a time where every single genre was invited to the table and brought back for seconds and thirds. Make sure you're hungry, because we're about to serve you some delicious throwback jams that will leave you full - and jonesing for that old CD player you left at your parents' house years ago.

In the mid-'90s, we saw a huge decline in what is considered "pop" music as the grunge and hip-hop scene made its way to the top of the charts and left the pop princes and princesses in the dust. A year before, in 1996, a little-known girl group named The Spice Girls came blasting on the scene with their first hit: "Wannabe." It led to a huge pop explosion all over the world and gave many boys and girls the option to figure out which Spice Girl they were (I was Ginger, of course). This led them to have a monster year in 1997, with hits like "Say You'll Be There" and "2 Become 1," while on the flipside of things, we saw the boy band phenomenon make its way back into the scene with five guys from Orlando, FL, and a trio from Tulsa, OK.

They, of course, were The Backstreet Boys and Hanson, respectively. Was there anyone who didn't listen to or know the song "MMMBop"? Seriously, it was everywhere, and there was a massive cohesion of screams from girls for these three dudes who were an actual band. On the other hand, you had The Backstreet Boys just coming into play with the hit "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)," further elevating the screams as we found a spanking-new edition of New Kids on The Block. It was these artists that parlayed success for others in the years to come, notably names like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, *NSYNC, and many more.

Sure, pop made a comeback, and you can't deny the female spirit that was in the air during this glorious year. The dominance of women throughout 1997 was huge in genres that spanned everything from country (LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain) to pop rock and folk (Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow) and all the way to hip-hop (Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim). Was I the only one who would listen to Jewel's "You Were Meant For Me" on a cloudy day, sipping on some coffee? Or belting "How Do I Live?" by LeAnn Rimes in my room with a fake microphone? Granted, I was 11 at the time and maybe I'm being a bit melodramatic, but come on! These songs rock and are reminiscent of a great time in music when popping in Celine Dion's "Falling Into You" made for a pretty memorable Saturday afternoon. Oh, and Celine did kind of release that song from that movie with the ship and Jack and Rose. Not sure if ANYONE remembers that, though.

That year - and McLachlan - also brought us The Lilith Fair, which celebrated women in music and did so for years to come. Want some real nostalgia? The main lineup for the original Lilith Fair included women who made a massive dent in 1997, including Meredith Brooks and her blunt as hell track "B*tch"; Fiona Apple, who was feeling like a "Criminal"; Paula Cole, who was wondering "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?"; and Shawn Colvin, who pondered when "Sunny Came Home." The female singer-songwriters were powerful in 1997, and the reflection on it 20 years later is still as strong as ever.

Regarding other women in music, R&B was smooth as butter in the '90s, especially in 1997. We all fawned over Tyson Beckford in Toni Braxton's video for her smash hit "Un-Break My Heart" and jammed with Mariah Carey on the drippingly perfect "Honey." We felt the soul with Erykah Badu's "On and On" and Janet Jackson's remake of Joni Mitchell's "Got 'Til It's Gone," and got down and dirty with the guys on Usher's "You Make Me Wanna," Dru Hill's "In My Bed," and LSG's "My Body." The feels were all over the place for R&B. Whether you wanted to tap your feet, slow dance with your partner, or dance the night away, this genre had you covered.

Remember when dance music was called . . . dance? That year gave us so much life in the world of dance, where Daft Punk took us "Around the World," Gina G gave us "Ooh Ahh Just a Little Bit," Crush scolded our boyfriends with "Jellyhead," and The Prodigy both freaked us out and made us dance the night away with "Breathe." Oh, and please let's not forget Aqua's "Barbie Girl." Or maybe we should? Kidding, how can we ever forget a track like this that equally made us dance/annoyed the heck out of us after a while?

If there was a king of rap in 1997, it was no doubt Puff Daddy (. . . & The Family). There was truthfully no bigger act that year than this group of rappers that included Puff Daddy, Mase, and of course the legendary Notorious B.I.G. Whether you were cruising down the highway to Biggie's "Hypnotize," getting inspired by Puff & Mase's "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down," or repeatedly singing "bad, bad, bad, bad boy" on Mase's "Feel So Good," this group capitalized on rap and hip-hop that year and were triumphant in doing so.

They weren't the only ones to eat at the rap and hip-hop table, though, as we were introduced to so many amazing new talents, including Missy Elliott, who served up some garbage bag couture in the video for "The Rain," and Busta Rhymes in "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See." Big Pun convinced us he was "Still Not a Player," Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz took the 6 train to "Déjà Vu (Uptown Baby)," and we saw the return of Will Smith with his signature shades for "Men in Black."

Rock music is a genre that is today fighting for its place in the industry, but it dominated the heck out of the '90s, especially '97. It was a sweet year for rock music, where the hits were endless and unique to boot. Who ever thought that combining "Sex and Candy" could actually work (besides Marcy Playground)? The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony" is memorable in so many ways, including its lead singer walking into everybody and everyone throughout the duration of its music video. We were introduced to Matchbox 20 with "Push," Third Eye Blind with "Semi-Charmed Life," and The Wallflowers with "One Headlight," while legends continued to churn out rock smashes like The Foo Fighters's "Everlong" and Garbage's "#1 Crush." And yes, the world of rock gave us Chumbawamba and their song "Tubthumping," where for the longest time I thought they were singing "I get no town" instead of "I get knocked down." Granted, now I know the song is about getting drunk, but hey, it was a more innocent time for me.

Country music in 1997 was an equal playing field for both men and women, and sometimes they even joined forces to make a huge hit. Case in point: married couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw with their classic "It's Your Love" and Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks's hit "In Another's Eyes." Shania Twain reminded us that "Love Gets Me Every Time," Pam Tillis thought that "All the Good Ones Are Gone," and Deana Carter asked "How Do I Get There?"

We were also brought a year of reflective and somewhat melancholy hits with a message, including songs about ones who tragically passed, including Elton John's "Candle in the Wind 1997" for Princess Diana and "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy and The Family for The Notorious B.I.G. In a similar sentiment, you saw a ton of uplifting songs make their way to the radio and our heads, like R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" and Eric Clapton's "Change the World."

So, did all of this fill you up? For more nostalgia, check out the Spotify playlist of some of my favorite songs from the year while reminding yourselves that this was when Rachel and Ross were on a break.

So, Can You Get Laser Hair Removal During the Summer?

The minute you strip down to shorts, a bikini, or a sleeveless dress, you may be thinking, "Sh*t, I need to get laser hair removal on my legs or underarms" - or wherever you have unwanted body hair. However, getting laser hair removal during the warmer months is typically not recommended since sun exposure and even self-tanner can mess with the laser's ability to take down your strands. The ideal combination for successful laser hair removal is light skin and dark hairs. And the tanner the skin, the more likely the treatment is to cause side effects like hyperpigmentation.

"A person should not get laser hair removal during the Summer because skin gets exposed to the sun and is more prone to hypo and hyper pigmentation," confirmed Christian Karavolas, the owner of Romeo and Juliette laser spa in NYC. "After laser, skin may become sensitive, and with sun exposure, pigmentation may occur. People with sensitive skin and those who are medications that can cause photo sensitivity should absolutely avoid laser in the Summer months."

He added that the best time to get laser hair removal is during the Winter, because unless you're always bronzed from a tropical vacation (lucky you!), then the skin is typically at its lightest. "More energy can be applied without causing any issues to the skin," he said.

OK, but what if your wedding is soon or there's another reason you have to get certain hair off ASAP? "If you want to get laser hair removal, make sure you are not tanned for at least three weeks prior to laser hair removal," he noted. "Find a facility that uses lasers that are suitable for dark skin (Nd:YAG wavelength)."

You can also take care of areas you're doing laser on during the Summer. For example, wear shorts over your bikini line if you're lasering your crotch. Of course, Karavolas said you always apply sunblock generously on any treated area that is exposed to the sun. (But you should do that anyways!)

In general, underarms and bikini lines are the safest areas to treat during the warmer months since they're the easiest to keep out of the sunlight. "Facial hair and arms should be avoided or treated with caution, as they are the areas that are mostly exposed to the sun," Karavolas said.

Now that you're informed, tan and get laser during the Summer at your own risk!

Golden Milk: The Antidepressant, Debloating, Weight-Loss-Boosting Wonder Drink

Ready to simmer down and give your body a boost before bedtime? We've got the perfect, healthy nightcap for you, and you may have heard of it: golden milk.

Used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine, golden milk is a combination of the powerful spice turmeric, coconut milk, and sometimes coconut oil. Black pepper is often added (in small amounts) to increase the bioavailability of (i.e., your body's ability to absorb) the superspice turmeric. Creamy and spicy, soothing and warm - this delicious drink is more than just a tasty treat. Rich in electrolytes and digestive-aiding properties, your body is going to love every sip.

Ready to mix up a batch? We like flavoring with a little honey or agave and sometimes a bit of vanilla bean or vanilla extract, cinnamon, and ginger. You'll be sweetly sipping your way to health in no time!

Hearing Jennifer Garner Telling Kids to Go the F*ck to Sleep Will Be the Highlight of Your Day

When it comes to celebrity moms, no one epitomizes the role quite like Jennifer Garner. The mom-of-three (Violet, 10, Seraphina, 7, and Sam, 4) personifies the role of the modern mom both on screen and off. But sometimes, even celebrity moms really just want their kids to go to sleep. And they're just as likely to lose their patience as we are, begging their kids to just go to sleep already.

Which is probably why hearing the star of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and the upcoming Miracles From Heaven read Adam Mansbach's expletive-filled children's book Go the F*ck to Sleep for Vanity Fair is a video made in heaven.

Lounging poolside, Garner, who's been extremely candid about her split from Ben Affleck recently, uses her trademark sugary-sweet voice to implore her children to go to bed with lines like, "I know you're not thirsty, that's bullsh*t, stop lying. Lie the f*ck down, my darling, and sleep."

Watch the video and enjoy, knowing that you're not alone in your expletive-filled nightly routine!

Selena Gomez's Sexiest Dresses Never Leave You Wanting More

Let's get one thing straight: Selena Gomez is sexy. When I watched her perform at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2015 just a few rows away from the stage, I thought, "OK, she is absolutely the most beautiful celebrity I have ever seen in person." While the 24-year-old songstress has the option of dressing to show off her every curve, baring cleavage and flaunting her legs in a short hemline at the same time, her signature look - which she's defined with the help of stylist Kate Young - puts a modest hold on sexy.

Selena's most striking looks show skin, but in small amounts at a time. Perhaps you sneak a peek of side boob when she lifts her arms or you see a slip of thigh as she climbs the stairs in a slitted gown. Selena does not put her entire body on display; she finds easy, effortless ways to flatter her best assets. When you scroll through the photos ahead, you'll see exactly what I mean. These are the sexiest dresses Selena has ever worn, most simply because they're just a touch revealing, and they never leave you wanting more.

This Pelican Brief Scene Is Eerily Similar to the Conversation Comey Says He Had With Trump

The 1993 film adaptation of The Pelican Brief may have been released decades before Donald Trump's presidency, but one specific scene seems eerily reminiscent of current political goings-on. On June 26, a Reddit user resurfaced a pivotal scene from the legal thriller and implied that it seemed super similar to James Comey's claims about a conversation he had with the president.

When Comey recently testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee, the former FBI director said Trump had allegedly asked him to drop the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. Specifically, Comey has repeatedly claimed that Trump said, "I hope you can let this go."

In The Pelican Brief, a very similar conversation takes place between the president - played by the late Robert Culp - and FBI Director F. Denton Voyles (played by James Sikking). As the government scrambles to cover up the assassination of two Supreme Court justices, the president pressures the FBI director to simply let it go. Sound familiar?

In the scene, the president says, "Well, Denton, I don't have to tell you how much trouble and pain this nonsense could cause if the press gets wind of it," adding, "I just wish that you'd back off of the thing. I mean, what the hell? It's a goose chase." Watch the chill-inducing scene in its entirety above.

Holy Sh*t, a Twix Spread Exists, and You'll Want to Put It on Everything!

Move over, Nutella. Twix in the form of a soft spread in a jar officially exists, and we have no chill. It comes as no surprise that this unexpected product is from Cost Plus World Market, one of our favorite places to score imported snacks that aren't sold anywhere else. The Mars Twix Spread ($5) is made in the UK, but is sold online and in stores in the US, so you can stock up on as much as you want. Each seven-ounce jar has a buttery spread made of chocolate, caramel, and crunchy biscuit pieces; it's made with real milk, sugar, flour, butter, and cocoa. The jarred chocolate is essentially a bunch of Twix bars mashed together into a decadent, icing-like spread that offers an equal ratio of gooey, creamy, and crunchy. You can spread it on a piece of warm toast, spoon it on a biscuit, slather it on a cupcake, or simply eat it straight out of the jar (no shame). We have a feeling that eating a regular Twix bar will never suffice again, and we need a jar (or five) of this ASAP!

Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh, Coolest Couple Ever, Are Not Too Cool For PDA

Pharrell Williams makes nonstop jams, and his wife since 2013, the super-stylish Helen Lasichanh, seems just as cool. Together, they just might be the coolest couple (they're at least the most fashion-forward) in Hollywood right now. Though the parents of four kids (they just welcomed triplets in January, after their first son, Rocket) are intensely private about their relationship, they still step out together from time and time, and in between their fiercely fashionable appearances, they also show a little PDA, like a quick kiss and an almost-constant hand-hold. It just shows that no one's too cool for true love.

7 Times Kelly Ripa Bared It All in a Bikini

This Student Wrote 127 Pages in Response to an Infuriating Catholic School Assignment

I go to a Catholic high school, and they wanted me to write a paper on why gay marriage is "wrong and dangerous", so instead I wrote this 127 page paper. from lgbt

One Catholic high school student in Missouri is going viral for sharing the details of their shocking religion class assignment - along with the epic way they responded to it.

Reddit user averagesmurf recently shared the above photo, showing the cover of their latest morality class assignment. The student's teacher allegedly assigned the high school students to write a paper about why gay marriage is "wrong and dangerous," but this teen had a little something different up their sleeve. Instead, they cranked out a whopping 127 pages about why gay marriage is actually "fabulous," backed up with Bible references and historical quotes.

The post garnered more than 900 comments from people who offered up both positive and negative reactions. Some praised the student's work, with one user saying, "Good job :) hope you got an A." Yet others were suspicious that the photo was a fluke, with another user writing, "This smells like bullsh*t to me, 127 pages is stupidly long and I doubt any school would assign an essay about the dangers of gay marriage."

So, the student shared a few now-deleted snapshots of supposed pages from the assignment to prove its validity. The typed pages incorporate multiple Bible quotes and citations to support the student's argument that gay marriage should not be frowned upon by the Church. On top of that, the student offered up an in-depth explanation of what the assignment entailed.

Though we may not know for sure whether this student's assignment was real, we sure hope it is, because it looks like some people in this world still need to broaden their viewpoint on this hot topic.

In 2017, Gay Marriage Is More Popular Than Ever - Even With Republicans

If you have any doubt that the progressive tides are changing in America, it helps to back up and look at the bigger picture. Sure, the next four years (will there be four years?) under the Trump administration are likely to yield some pretty serious regressions to women's rights, unrelenting attacks on health care, fewer protections for transgender children, and the possible endangerment of LGBTQ+ rights as we know them. Amid all the bleakness, though, a new study offers a silver lining of sorts. Our fellow Americans - yes, even the Republicans - are much more progressive than we think they are.

This week, the Pew Research Center released new data on how Americans view same-sex marriage. The results show a heartening uptick in support across the board . . . there's even a pretty surprising fact buried within. Unsurprisingly, general public support for same-sex marriage continues to rise; now, in a nearly two-to-one margin, 62 percent of Americans are in favor of same-sex marriage. What's more interesting, though, is that we've acquired some first-time majorities. This year, more than half of the Baby Boomer population (56 percent) is in favor of marriage equality. Last year, the number was only at 46 percent. It's the same story for the African-American demographic. The percentage of people in that community who support gay marriage jumped 12 percent year-over-year, with 51 percent of African-Americans saying they are in favor of same-sex marriage.

Perhaps the most surprising change comes from the Republican party itself. According to the data in the study, the party is almost exactly split on the issue of same-sex marriage: 48 percent are opposed, while 47 percent are not. The numbers are only more encouraging when you consider demographic shifts in age and political identity: 51 percent of Gen X Republicans and 60 percent of millennial Republicans and Republican-leaning individuals are in support of same-sex marriage.

With numbers like this, it's a little easier to look to the future with hope. There will always be setbacks - sometimes dangerous, heart-wrenching setbacks - but the slow march toward progress and liberty continues in spite of opposition.

Turns Out, Beyoncé Approved Every Song on JAY Z's 4:44 Album

When JAY-Z's 4:44 album dropped on Friday, all people could talk about what his admission to cheating in his marriage to Beyoncé. Now, thanks to a recent New York Times interview with No I.D., the man who produced the entire album, we know that Beyoncé approved every song before the rest of the world heard it.

"I always call [Beyoncé] our de facto A&R," No I.D. told the publication when asked about Beyoncé's involvement on the album. "Pillow talk is the strongest conversation on the planet. Every song has to get past her ears, in my eyes." The 46-year-old producer also revealed "[Beyoncé] came by a lot and played a good part in helping us get over hurdles on certain records. Of course she's genius-level with that."

So who's idea was it to get a confession out of JAY-Z on the album's title track? Well, No I.D. takes partial credit for that. "We [including JAY-Z's engineer, Guru] didn't want him to do an album of Lemonade response. We just wanted him to respond and then let it be and still touch on other things. I created that beat to box him into telling that story."

While they never spoke about Beyoncé's Lemonade album during the recording process, No I.D. felt it was still important for JAY-Z to address his fans in an honest way. "There's a difference in talking about it for the sake of response and for the sake of honesty and the truth. The truth needs to explain why you are the way you are, why you did what you did. We know what happened. We got it. But what were the circumstances that led to this and how do you feel about it?" he stated.

17 Ways Disney World Isn't So Magical For Parents

So I just got back from another trip to Walt Disney World, and as far as my kids are concerned, it was the most magical trip of their little lives. They had a blast! But between you, me, and my husband, we're much happier to be back at the real happiest place on earth: home.

See, when you are a parent, you do Disney for your children - and it's rough. Sure, there are folks there without kids having a grand ol' time, but if you are there with your kids, you are there for your kids. Period. Don't get me wrong - the joy and excitement that my children get from a few days at Disney is worth all the eye rolls, stepped-on toes, and bickering that goes on behind the scenes as parents. But I'm in Disney hangover mode, which means I'm still at the point of vowing to never, ever go back again (which is what I said last year, by the way).

Here are a few less-than-magical parts of Disney World for us parents.

H&M's Best-Kept Shopping Secrets, From a Former Employee

H&M is a beast of a store, and more often than not, it's too overwhelming to even fathom covering all your bases. Seriously, every nook and cranny has some type of product merchandised into it. But with the right strategy, you could come out of H&M looking and feeling like a true fashion girl having checked off every single item on your list.

I worked at H&M for four years, and I kid you not, almost every outfit I own was plucked from the shelves there (all the way down to my underwear and hair ties). So you can trust me when I say I know my way around the merchandise. Here's what you should know, too:

1. You Can Get a Discount Every Time You Shop and Save the Planet While You're At It

H&M is collecting old and used garments as an indefinite initiative to close the gap on waste. Bring up to two bags (four to five items) of unwanted textiles - think clothes, placemats, pillow cases - and receive up to two coupons for 15 percent off your next purchase. These textiles are then broken down into fibers and given a new life in the form of H&M's Conscious collection. The surplus is donated to the H&M Foundation and split between social and recycling projects.

2. Sizing Is Weird, Your Body Is Not!

Everything at H&M runs small. When suggesting size options, I would tell customers to choose the two sizes above their normal to try on. Just remember it's not you, it's the inseam! I am normally a size 8, but at H&M, I always wear a size 10 or 12.

3. Shop by Concept

Sometimes with all that merch it's hard to tell where you're going or what you're doing. All of a sudden, furry cropped sweaters, one business-casual blazer, and a leather mini skirt are spilling out of your arms, when all you wanted was a nice pair of cropped denim pants.

H&M is broken down into distinct concepts. These are the ones to note:

  • Everyday: For the everyday woman, these pieces are positioned front and center upon entering the store. The everyday woman is strong, independent, and always on trend. Here you will find the items fast-fashion retailers are known for. Tag: an off-white, eggshell H&M.
  • Trend: For the trendier fashion gal who likes to take risks. Often within or very near the everyday section. These items are at a higher price point but definitely feel more one-of-a-kind. Fewer trend pieces come in regularly, so when you want it, you should grab it. Tag: cream (select stores only).
  • By Night: Whether she's elegant or fun, she's ready for a night out. Sectioned within or next to the trend section, these pieces range from fancy jumpsuits to shimmering mini skirts. Tag: gold or black sheer H&M (select stores only).
  • Modern Classic: For the classic boss-lady. Your go-to for classic interview attire, modern classic adds fun pieces for an updated work wardrobe. This section also includes the premium collection. These items are made of premium cotton and silk and have an overall higher quality. Tag: silver H&M.
  • Divided: For the young, fun, and carefree. Divided is often considered a sort of "juniors" line, only because their sizes run even smaller than everyday pieces. Divided is full of bright colors, crazy patterns, and trendy pieces. These items fall in a lower price point but are not made as well. Tag: black, labeled Divided.
  • Divided Grey: A one-off of Divided, this girl is edgy and cool. Think ripped pants, lots of leather, and band tees. Found within the Divided section. Tag: gray, labeled Divided (select stores only).
  • L.O.G.G: Standing for Level of Graded Goods, LOGG covers the laid-back, comfort-seeking babe. These items are soft and easy, often associated with the beach or outdoors activities. Tag: fabric tag, labeled LOGG.

4. Online Shopping Is All About the Filters

You can find a volume of funky, elevated, and on-trend items by filtering your search to "Trend." These items are often on sale and not always featured in store. Another thing to mention about new items found online: they are found in store two to three weeks after being featured on the website. If it's a more one-of-a-kind piece, maybe even longer or not at all.

5. Arrive at 9, Leave Before Noon

This is when the store is the cleanest. Staff has finished cleaning any leftover messes from the night before and all go-backs should be in their rightful places. Racks are clean and shoppable. The stock team is also replenishing low products and placing new items. You will always have the most updated and shoppable floor in the a.m. There is never a line for the fitting room. With less of a mess to clean and keep control of, the staff has more time to assist you and your needs!

6. Stock Up on Basics

H&M is like the Mecca of basics. But because of this, the good stuff sells out fast. Shop basics a month ahead of the new season. Need a turtleneck for Fall? Start checking around August. Want a sheer and lightweight Spring sweater? Begin shopping in February. New and fresh basic pieces are often made better, but the store receives less and doesn't always replenish. (I lost my favorite black turtleneck and the store has never seen it again. RIP.)

7. Know the Sales

Markdowns happen every few weeks, which usually include a few trend-section pieces and items not selling down as fast. Big sale pushes happen at the end of every season, so much like basics, shop a few weeks ahead of the seasonal turnover. Items that have been around the longest, usually toward the back of each concept's section, are more likely to be marked down first. Markdowns happen almost weekly during the time of the sale, so continue to check back. Ask sales advisers where older season items are - you are more likely to find one-off sale items in these sections. Trend and premium pieces are almost always marked as 50 percent off. (Bring in your recycled clothes for the additional discount and receive a whopping total of 65 percent off.)

Last Minute Quickies to Note:

  • Backstock: Everything is on the floor, with the exception of maybe a few chunky boots that don't fit on the shoe shelf. If it's not there, check online or the next closest H&M. The stockroom will not have the beaded trend tunic you've been eyeing for the past month. I promise.
  • Cross-Concept Shopping: There are often different versions of every item, it's just residing in a different concept. If a specific bomber jacket doesn't come in your size, I can guarantee there is another version of it somewhere in the store. Always sift through Divided for trendy pieces the everyday section doesn't seem to have.
  • Shoes: Everyday shoes are the most comfortable and last a decent amount of time (usually always falling at the $35 price point).
  • Accessories: The amount of accessories that comes through each H&M could fill its own three-story pop-up shop. If you are a big accessory person, take your time in this section. It's easy to miss the perfect pair of earrings, but they're there. I promise you. This section can become the most cluttered, so check past the first few items on every rack.

In the Name of the Moon, We Need to Try This Sailor Moon Cafe's Pink Burger

In Tokyo, a colorful cafe inspired by Sailor Moon is making all of our nostalgic '90s dreams come true. Located in the city's Roppongi Hills shopping district, Chibiusa Cafe was part of a larger art exhibit all about the seminal manga series. Unfortunately, the cafe closed when the exhibit ended, but we'll always have these magical pictures.

In addition to being one of the most Instagram-ready restaurants in the world, Chibiusa Cafe also had a damn good menu. The most popular item appears to be the Sailor Moon Special hamburger which is topped with a crescent-moon-shaped fried egg and paired with star-shaped tater tots. Then there's Tuxedo Mask's Nihilistic Pasta, which is really just spaghetti with a tuxedo mask made out of pie crust. The other entree is the Three-Variety Talisman Curry, a tricolored dish that's a nod to Sailors Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto.

The restaurant also had an impressive dessert and drink menu, with the Luna Berry Mousse and the Heavenly Miracle Romance Parfait. Menu items ranged from $10 to $14. Look ahead and prepare to feel mesmerized by this majestic restaurant.

Why People Are Applauding This Mom For Doing "Literally Nothing" With Her Kids

Before the school year ended, Kristen Hewitt had big plans to be a "good mom" this Summer. She was going to institute chore charts, reading goals, and writing practices for her girls while they were home.

"There would be no screen time until the beds were made, and planned activities for each day of the week," Kristen shared on Facebook. However, on their first day of Summer vacation, Kristen had a scheduled beach day planned but instead, this is what they did: they lounged in their pajamas until 11 a.m., baked chocolate chip cookie brownies, started an art project that they never finished, and then headed to the pool.

"It's so easy to be pressured by things we see on social. Ways to challenge our kids and enrich their summer. But let's be real - we're all tired," she wrote. "Tired of chores, tired of schedules and places to be, tired of pressure, and tired of unrealistic expectations."

So instead of sticking to her schedule, Kristen has a new Summer plan for her family: to do "literally NOTHING."

There will no longer be any camps, classes, or curriculums for the girls. "Instead, we're going to see where each day takes us," she wrote. "I've dubbed this the 'Summer of Me,' so workouts and clean eating are a priority for me. And also giving our girls the freedom to pick what THEY want to do."

That doesn't mean that the girls are going to sit around bored all day. Kristen explained that they are considering checking out swim programs at the local pool or joining their YMCA, but whatever they do, it's going to be low-key. "It will include family time, too much TV, a few trips, lots of sunshine, some new roller skates, water balloons, plenty of boredom, rest, relaxation, and reading. (Because mama likes to read!)," she wrote. "So if you haven't figured out what you're doing this Summer, you're not alone. And guess what? It's OK! Your kids will be fine and so will you."

This "Magical" Capitol Steps Moment Will Make You Feel Better About the World

As politicians continue to mull over the polarizing Senate healthcare bill, a profound Capitol Hill moment is uplifting those who have lost hope due to the current political climate. On June 26, Senator Cory Booker and Representative John Lewis sat down on the steps of the Capitol Building to discuss the healthcare proposal via Facebook livestream.

What started as a candid conversation among two political leaders, however, quickly turned into a beautiful public forum as hundreds of people joined in. Ben Wikler, a director at MoveOn, captured the start of the conversation, but then went about his evening. Shortly thereafter, he returned to find that a crowd had gathered. Not only that, but senators including Chuck Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Jeff Merkley stopped by, as well.

According to Wikler, the spontaneous gathering allowed people to share their stories and ask questions about the healthcare system. In a tweet, he said it felt "totally real. Organic, spontaneous. Senators kept drifting out. Passers-by kept wandering over and sitting down."

"We cannot as individual Americans allow our inability to do everything to undermine our determination to do something."

Ultimately, the impromptu meeting gave everyday people a welcoming setting to engage with politics in a tangible way and share their feelings about the proposal. The livestream lasted nearly four hours and is filled with appearances from entire families, teenagers, activists, and political leaders.

Though many moments are compelling, Booker's closing statement is really worth watching. He ended the gathering by saying: "This is one of those moments in American history that generations to come are going to look back and wonder, where were you? We cannot as individual Americans allow our inability to do everything to undermine our determination to do something - something in the cause of justice and something in the cause of our country." Watch his statement, about three hours and 36 minutes into the livestream, below.

Health care is a human right.

So this week we face a defining moment: we are perhaps days away from a vote on a devastating health repeal bill in the United States Senate that threatens the health and financial security of millions of Americans.

We must fight harder for the American people who will suffer, who will get sicker, who will lose loved ones if the Senate Republican plan goes through. Because right now, the fate of millions of Americans and future generations are at stake in this fight – a fight Americans cannot afford to lose.

Congressman John Lewis said it well: "Affordable health care is the birthright of every American. At stake are not just the details of policy but the character of our country."

So John Lewis and I are going to sit down on the Capitol steps for a while to protest Senate Republican's efforts to repeal health care and give voice to millions of Americans who believe that affordable health care is a human right.

Watch, share & join us.

The 1-Pot Pasta Recipe You'll Make on Repeat From Ina Garten

Ina Garten, aka The Barefoot Contessa, can do no wrong. Any time I see a recipe of hers that looks promising for dinner, I pounce. Such was the case when I spotted her weeknight bolognese, a recipe that gives you al dente orecchiette topped with homemade tomato sauce in fewer than 45 minutes. This version requires just one pot (for the sauce) and a few staple Italian ingredients.

Red pepper flakes, oregano, and nutmeg bring out the flavors of tangy San Marzano tomatoes and lean ground sirloin. The sauce, flavored with red wine, thickened with a bit of heavy cream, and beautified with flecks of basil, fills each bite of shell pasta. The final product is sprinkled with as much Parmesan as your heart desires (and served with a couple of glasses of your favorite red wine). I don't want to downplay the sophisticated flavor profile of the dish, but it almost tastes like a perfect piece of garlic bread, which is never a bad thing in my book.

My mom makes this at least once a month and says the recipe is very forgiving; you can substitute pork for beef, penne for orecchiette, etc. And if you chop and measure the ingredients before you turn on the stove, cooking is a breeze. After all, how hard can making pasta sauce be when most of the "work" involves breathing in the amazing aromas of tomatoes and spices? Make this lifesaving bolognese once, and you'll see why it's good enough - and easy enough - to make on even the longest of week days.

Drugstore Skincare Items That Have Hyaluronic Acid

I've always struggled with hormonal cystic acne and superoily skin, which usually left me with severe dry patches. I could never find a moisturizer that felt right on my face. What I didn't realize until doing a lot of research was that I needed more moisture. That's when I learned about hyaluronic acid, a chemical known for its hydrating properties. It acts as a filler for fine lines and wrinkles. It also has the ability to hold 1,000 times its water weight, making this a smart way to lock in moisture and stop producing oil. Using it changed my skin for the better by clearing it up.

If you've been interested in trying it out, you don't have to cash out hundreds of dollars. You can find this chemical in so many drugstore brands. Check them out ahead.

How Adding Flaxmeal to My Smoothies Helped Me Lose Weight

When I started making smoothies instead of eating an enormous bowl of cereal for breakfast, it was the change I needed to start losing weight. But one ingredient in particular was the real game changer.

Liquid meals can feel less filling than you need them to be. In order to make a liquid meal that keeps hunger at bay for hours, you need to add fiber. I started adding one tablespoon of flaxmeal to my blender. With just 37 calories, it adds two grams of fiber and three grams of filling fat. What is so great about flaxmeal is that when it gets wet, it expands, which makes your belly feel more full and makes it take longer to digest.

Once I started adding this one simple ingredient, I didn't feel hungry until lunchtime, when normally I'd need to reach for a mid-morning snack. Skipping those 150 calories every day started to add up, and suddenly the scale started to budge. This would probably work with chia seeds, too. Try it tomorrow when you make your morning smoothie and see what a difference it makes.

This Is Why Amal Clooney's Outfits Are Always So Darn Good

If you're the type who arrives at a party, the office, or even the movies dressed to impress, you're not alone - that's just how us fashion girls roll. But while statement shoes and furry jackets will surely make jaws drop, it might be time to take some tips from a star who's got classic, elevated style down pat: Amal Clooney.

No matter where she's headed, from court to the red carpet, Amal's outfits always stand out in the crowd. It's not so much that what she wears is so different or out-there; it's that she doesn't overdo it, knows how to accessorize, and always keeps things classy (no revealing dresses here).

Anna Faris Shows Off Her Rock-Hard Abs While Filming Overboard in a Bikini

When we first found out that a remake of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell's classic 1987 film Overboard was in the works, we weren't too thrilled. I mean, why touch something that's already so perfect? But when Anna Faris came on board (get it?) as its main star, our minds were immediately changed. The actress took a break from tweeting shirtless photos of her husband, Chris Pratt, to film a few beach scenes in Canada on Wednesday, and we're already pretty excited about what's to come. The mom of son Jack looked incredible in a yellow bikini as she took a dip in the water and had a steamy makeout session with costar Eugenio Derbez. As previously reported, the remake is flipping the genders of the main characters, so Eugenio is the one who falls overboard off his yacht and is convinced by Anna that he is her husband. Pretty amazing, right? Almost as amazing as Anna's rock-hard abs . . . almost.

DIY This Festive Fourth of July Nail Art Design

While you're preparing for your Fourth of July plans at the beach, pool, or a good ol' barbecue, we have the perfect way to show off your patriotic colors no matter what you're wearing. Hiroko Fujikawa, owner of MARS the Salon, created the above nail design, and she's giving us her tips for re-creating the sparkling look.

  1. Prep your nails by filing them to your desired shape and apply a base coat.
  2. Apply two coats of red polish to your thumb.
  3. Apply two coats of blue polish to your index and pinky fingers. For added sparkle, use a polish with glitter; we recommend Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Lady Sings the Blues ($20).
  4. Apply two coats of white polish to your middle finger.
  5. Using nail glue, carefully apply silver rhinestones to ring finger. You can also try a silver glitter polish like Essie Set in Stones ($9) for a similar look.
  6. To create the American flag on your middle finger, use a precision art brush to draw a small box at the lower right corner of the nail. Fill in with blue polish. Next, clean the brush with remover and dip it into silver polish to draw on small stars. Clean the brush again and then dip into red polish to create small horizontal stripes.
  7. Apply a top coat to all your nails to seal and add shine.

The Next Time You Hop On the Treadmill, Do This to Burn More Calories

Between the extreme heat and humidity, and Summer thunderstorms, unpredictable weather this time of year may be one reason to take refuge in your trusty ol' gym. Treadmills might feel safer and more controlled, but you might even find the workout feels a little easier. Don't sell yourself short! Use these tips to upgrade your treadmill time and maximize the benefits of your run.

To Burn More Calories

  • Do intervals: Running at a consistent pace is great for longer training runs, but during shorter workouts, increase the intensity by including speed intervals. By alternating between running a few minutes at a moderate pace and throwing in bursts at a quicker pace (or even sprinting), you'll burn more calories, build endurance, and become a faster, stronger runner. Not to mention, intervals have also been proven to fight belly fat. Here's a 30-minute treadmill interval workout for you to try.
  • Gradually increase your speed throughout your workout: Running faster burns more calories, and since you don't want to start your run at a seven mile per hour (mph) pace, start out with a brisk walk (four mph) and every two to five minutes, give your speed a little push until you're running at a five to eight mph pace.
  • Run longer: It's good to mix up the type of running workouts you do, so on days that you're not running intervals or building up speed, do a longer run at a consistent pace. If you run for 30 minutes (at a pace of 10 minutes per mile) you'll burn 270 calories. Forty-five minutes burns 405 calories, and an hourlong run burns 540 calories.

To Strengthen Your Muscles

  • Raise the incline: Hills help to target your thighs, calves, and booty, so pump up the incline and you'll notice a little extra power in your lower body. Doing hill work will also help prevent shin splints.
  • Incorporate walking lunges: Slow down the speed, take wider steps, and do walking lunges to tone your tush and legs.
  • Let go of the handles and pump your arms: Using your upper body while running not only tones your biceps, triceps, and shoulders, but since you're balancing without holding on, you'll also tone your core.

To Increase Your Speed

  • Incorporate tempo runs: If you want to run faster, you must practice running at a faster pace. Tempo work involves running slightly faster than your normal, comfortable pace for a steady period of time. After warming up, set your desired pace on the treadmill and run. The treadmill is like a metronome forcing you to keep tempo.
  • Practice negative splits: This technique involves running the second half of a run at a faster pace than the first half. It seems like it might make your total time slower, but conserving your energy in the beginning and allowing your muscles to warm up will actually help you comfortably increase your pace on the second half of your workout, so you end up with a faster time. Find more about the benefit of training with negative splits here.
  • Include intervals with incline: Throughout your workout, periodically raise the incline for a few minutes to represent the hills you'd find on a trail run. Then when you lower the slope to a flat position, you'll feel stronger and be able to run much faster.
