My 1 Contribution to Parties Is This Cheap Trader Joe's Staple
You know how it's scientifically proven that you can't go to Target without buying at least three things that weren't on your list? The same is true for me at Trader Joe's, and there is one item in particular that I get every single time I'm there because I know I'll regret not having it in my kitchen: white cheddar popcorn. Call me basic, but I am a white cheddar popcorn aficionado and have tried just about every brand there is, and this glorious pink bag tops the list and earns the title of my favorite. It costs $2, has the perfect kernel-to-seasoning ratio, and may or may not be covered in crack because it's so addictive. Honestly, my only complaint is that the bag isn't bigger.
Not only is this the snack that I buy for myself on a regular basis, but it's also usually my sole contribution to parties, other than cheap wine. And guess what? Everyone always loves it, and there's never any left at the end of the night. So if you want to be the real MVP of any social gathering, don't show up with a fancy wedge of cheese. Just bring a bag (or 10) of this.
Filthy Dishwasher? How to Naturally Clean It
Yes, your dishwasher is made for washing dishes, but what happens to all the bits of food and other grime that get washed away? Sadly, they don't magically disappear. Just like the sink, giving your dishwasher a good cleaning keeps it from being a deceptively dirty spot. And this cleaning solution uses natural ingredients and is complete after a single dishwasher cycle with absolutely no scrubbing.
- Empty your dishwasher, and remove or pull out the lower dish rack as far as possible. Locate the drain, and clean around it, removing the filter and thoroughly washing. Check all the spinning arms, and clear holes of debris or buildup with a paper towel.
- Place one cup of plain white distilled vinegar in a container on the bottom rack of the dishwasher. Now pour a half-cup of baking soda into a small dish and place on the top rack, or swap for two dishwasher-cleaning bombs.
- Run the dishwasher, and let the vinegar and baking soda work their magic. Vinegar is naturally antibacterial, breaking up buildup while cleaning. Baking soda helps bust up hard water collections and works together with the vinegar to superclean the inside of your dishwasher.
- Once the dishwasher has run through the cycle, let it sit closed for 20 minutes and continue to steam clean. Now open the dishwasher, and wipe the inside with a paper towel or soft sponge. Along with being shiny clean, your dishwasher will work wonders on your dishes!
Add cleaning your dishwasher to your monthly cleaning list, and your dishes with thank you.
Holy Sh*t, a Twix Spread Exists, and You'll Want to Put It on Everything!
Move over, Nutella. Twix in the form of a soft spread in a jar officially exists, and we have no chill. It comes as no surprise that this unexpected product is from Cost Plus World Market, one of our favorite places to score imported snacks that aren't sold anywhere else. The Mars Twix Spread ($5) is made in the UK, but is sold online and in stores in the US, so you can stock up on as much as you want. Each seven-ounce jar has a buttery spread made of chocolate, caramel, and crunchy biscuit pieces; it's made with real milk, sugar, flour, butter, and cocoa. The jarred chocolate is essentially a bunch of Twix bars mashed together into a decadent, icing-like spread that offers an equal ratio of gooey, creamy, and crunchy. You can spread it on a piece of warm toast, spoon it on a biscuit, slather it on a cupcake, or simply eat it straight out of the jar (no shame). We have a feeling that eating a regular Twix bar will never suffice again, and we need a jar (or five) of this ASAP!
ICYMI, Olive Garden's Pumpkin Cheesecake Has Returned For the Season
I love when Fall rolls around and all the pumpkin foods start popping up everywhere. As of yesterday, Olive Garden's pumpkin cheesecake has officially made its way back onto the menu for the season. The dessert is made of a pumpkin cheesecake base, topped with whipped cream, a caramel drizzle, and ginger cookie crumbles. The fan-favorite dish returns this year for its 21st year on the menu, but will only be around for a limited time! We suggest enjoying this delicious dessert after a hearty helping of pasta alfredo and, of course, a breadstick or seven.

Her BFF Jane Lane is also a classic and easy-to-recognize costume option, as are Trent Lane (Jane's brother), Quinn (Daria's red-headed bubbly sister), and Brittany and Kevin (the classic cheerleader and quarterback duo).

5 Things You Never Knew About Wendy's, Straight From an Employee
If you've ever wondered what it's like behind the scenes of Wendy's as you pick up your chicken nuggets and Frosty from the drive-thru, you'll appreciate this employee's Reddit AMA ("Ask Me Anything"). An employee named Nick who has worked at the fast-food chain for two years answered anonymous questions online about where Wendy's food comes from, how clean the place is, and which menu items he does not recommend. Get the inside scoop on one of your favorite fast-food spots by discovering all of the employee's insider knowledge ahead.
The employee doesn't recommend the chili because of what it's made from.
When someone asked the employee which Wendy's item he does not recommend getting, Nick said he doesn't like the chili. "Personally, I do not prefer the chili because we make it with the leftover burgers that the cook burnt," he said. The commenter wondered if this is public knowledge (who knew?!), and the employee admitted, "I'm not quite sure."
There's a generous employee discount.
If your love of Wendy's cheeseburgers and spicy chicken sandwich knows no bounds, this might be your ideal job. Nick disclosed the Wendy's employee discount, saying, "We get 50 percent off one meal while we are working, whether that be on our break, or if you want to work and eat it. (Meals are per shift, so if you are working a double you can eat two discounted). This includes ANYTHING off the menu, but the maximum you can get discounted is $6. Outside of work we have a thing called a 'VIP Card,' which are only given to crew with certain requirements (I believe if they have children or something, no idea), which can be used for 25 percent off your whole meal. We get any sized drink and can refill it at any time for free."
Wendy's donates food to local communities.
The employee was excited to reveal that Wendy's does in fact donate and give back to local communities. He said, "We benefit local communities! Our store is a franchise so we are a little looser. Every morning we grab food from the cooler to last the whole day. Any extra meat, fries, or chicken nuggets we have (that are still frozen and not open due to FDA regulations) we donate to our local soup kitchens!"
Wendy's employees take cleaning very seriously.
If you've ever wondered whether or not the cooking equipment is thoroughly cleaned every night, rest assured, it's a process that's taken seriously. The employee described the process at his location, saying, "We clean the fry and grill parts every night during closing, and to ensure they are extra clean they are washed by the opening shift also. We clean our floors with the same stuff, but we just mop instead of vacuuming it up, and then we clean the water."
Wendy's food is delivered from a distributor called Sysco.
A commenter wanted to know, "Is the food all supplied from Wendy's corporate? Can ingredients be sourced elsewhere?" And the Wendy's employee responded, "Actually, all food comes from a company called Sysco. They have Wendy's corporate deliver to Sysco. Then as you may tell, Sysco to us. If we run out of something, it gets delivered the next day when ordered. So, unfortunately, if we run out of hamburger (for example) we are out for the day!"

Inexpensive Ways I Incorporated My Unique Passion Into My Home Decor

Transforming a space to reflect not only your personality but also what you love: it's a thrilling experience, to say the least. It's also one that is full of highs and lows. But once you've passed all the unexpected twists and turns that can arise, there is nothing more satisfying than having a place - no matter how small - that feels like you. In other words, a place that feels like home.
When my husband and I moved into our current apartment, we didn't have much wiggle room to work with . . . in terms of space or budget. As you can probably imagine, we were forced to get creative when it came to decorating. Yet after months' worth of patience and a whole lot of DIYing, there is hardly any area of our teeny-tiny, humble abode that doesn't reflect who we are as individuals and as a couple.
So if you're seeking inspiration on how to infuse more of your personality into your own decor, ahead are five budget-friendly ways we incorporated our unique passions when it came to decorating our home.

You Might Pass Out Looking at This Insane Waterfall Climb in New Zealand
Are you the kind of person who likes to say "challenge accepted" when people imply you wouldn't dare do something? If so, then this new Wanaka Waterfall climb is what your adventurous dreams are made of. Travelers can brave the world's highest waterfall via ferrata climb, called Lord of the Rungs, which is "wild, wet and 450 meters on high."
The climb takes about seven hours, and once you reach the top, you descend back down via helicopter. As you ascend, you'll see the Twin Falls flowing down a sheer rocky hillside near the South Island alpine resort town of Wanaka. The route to the top is not for the faint of heart; it follows "a kilometer of cables, weaving over, above and behind the waterfalls, and crosses a 35-meter Tyrolean traverse (crosses free space between two high points on a rope/cable!) using a pulley. Add the breathtaking backdrop of sweeping views to the valley below and the surrounding mountains to the exhilaration of being on a mountainside, and there's drama at every twist and turn."
Even if you prefer to keep your feet firmly planted on the ground, the videos and photos of the climb are undeniably stunning. Take a look at this incredible experience.
Makeup Revolution Just Launched the Most Goth Beauty Collection Ever

The only thing better than this drugstore beauty goodness are the items' extra names. But you don't have to be afraid for your wallet, as everything in this affordable collection costs $10 or less.
Ahead, see every frightful release, because even the undead want to look fierce.

- Chicken gravy: Only nine Chick-fil-A restaurants in the US offer chicken gravy in Arizona, Iowa, and Arkansas.

- Spicy Biscuit: Not all restaurants offer the Spicy Biscuit for breakfast, but customers can still order it in select cities.

Halloween is just around the corner, which means it's time to delve into the creepiest of the creepy - haunted houses.
Though only a few centuries old, America has amassed an impressive number of eerie residences, each deemed haunted due to paranormal activity or a frightful past. From spooky hotels to murder mansions, these ghostly dwellings span from coast to coast. Read on to see the list of America's creepiest haunted houses . . . if you dare.
Not to Sound Witchy, but a Modern Hocus Pocus Is a Recipe For Disaster
I want to start things off by saying: I'm not the sort of person who typically complains about "the good ol' days" of movies. I didn't understand the controversy about a new iteration of Ghostbusters, and I was excited about the sequel to Blade Runner before the overwhelmingly positive reviews began rolling in. I have no problem reprising, reimagining, and recasting classics - sometimes, it's necessary to help beloved franchises appeal to new generations! But when I heard that Disney Channel plans to remake the 1993 Halloween masterpiece Hocus Pocus with a modern spin, I was one of many who reacted with some variation of "hard pass."
Why, you ask? Well, aside from the obvious - there's no way this version will be able to capture the '90s-hot vibe of ghostly heartthrob Thackery Binx - there are several logistical points that make a "modern reimagining" of the original plot nearly impossible. These points might convince you that the remake is a big mistake . . . and Disney should just tap the original cast for a sequel instead.
11 CBD-Infused Snacks Any Anxiety-Prone Foodie Would Devour in a Heartbeat
If you're looking for a way to naturally cope with anxiety while also satisfying those midday hunger pangs, we have just the answer for you: CBD-infused snacks. Yes, CBD is totally legal, and no, you won't need a marijuana card to purchase food products made with it.
Before we jump into all the craveable CBD goodies out there, allow us to do some much-needed explaining in case you're uncertain about hopping on the ever-growing bandwagon. CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is an active component of cannabis. This is not to be confused with tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC for short), which is the only psychoactive cannabinoid compound, meaning it's the stuff that makes you feel "high." When CBD is derived from hemp (rather than a cannabis plant), it has negligible amounts of THC, making it completely legal.
So what's the buzz with CBD? The compound has been making waves lately because it's associated with a laundry list of health benefits, including muscle pain mitigation and anxiety and insomnia relief. Though much research is still needed to clarify its therapeutic effects, we'd wager to say it's totally worth giving it a try when we're teetering on the edge of an anxious midweek mental breakdown.
CBD is traditionally ingested in oil form, but as it steadily gains in popularity, we've been noticing a plethora of unique CBD-infused snacks popping up, offering anxiety-prone foodies a means of relief. Below are 11 of our favorite picks that you can shop online without even leaving your couch.

Here's How Will & Grace Handles That Twist From the 2006 Series Finale
Ever since talk of a Will & Grace revival started, fans have been wondering just how a new series would handle the events of the original series finale. When Will & Grace 2.0 debuted Thursday, we all got our answer . . . and the short version is it's all a booze-and-drug-fueled dream of Karen Walker's.
The long answer starts with the show addressing it right at the top. In the revival, Jack wakes Karen up from a dream, and she says that in the dream, "Will was living with a swarthy man in uniform, and Grace was married to a Jew doctor."
Will tells her that they were both doing those things, but they're single now. Karen wonders what about the children they had who grew up and married each other? "That never happened," says Will, which is quite a relief to Jack and Karen because what's funny about watching Will and Grace raise kids?
That scene tracks with what creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick told the 2017 Summer TCA audience in August. Kohan called the series finale "a fantasy," while Mutchnick said that if the show hadn't been ending, they "never would have gone in that direction."
Now in 2017, the title characters are still living together while "the dust settles" on Grace's genitals, er, divorce. That news coupled with some social media posts from when Harry Connick Jr. was on set, and a photo of him in the third episode of the current season, definitely indicates that Leo is still very much a presence in Grace's life.
We also know Bobby Cannavale will reprise his role as Will's love interest Vince, so there's always a chance that this revival could still keep the 2006 flash-forward intact. Perhaps by the end of this continuation, Will and Grace will be back with Vince and Leo and their kids will meet in college? You never know.
Oh, and one more thing: Karen is still rich, as opposed to when in the original finale she finds out she has no money. Will sums it up with: "Stan's alive, you're still rich, [we're] both single, no kids," to which Jack mugs at the camera:

Ricky Martin Reveals He Spoke to Gianni Versace's Partner After Filming American Crime Story
Ricky Martin is going back to the small screen as Antonio D'Amico, Gianni Versace's longtime boyfriend, in Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, and while filming the new show, he spoke to D'Amico about his role, even asking for a favor. "I had the opportunity to speak to D'Amico a few months ago, and I said, 'Antonio, listen, maybe you've seen a couple of paparazzi shots of the actual scenes that we're shooting, but please don't judge the quality of it just by one picture because it could easily be taken out of context. You have to see what we're doing, and you're going to be so pleased with everything,'" he told Ocean Drive magazine about the conversation the two had.
Before Martin spoke to D'Amico, the 58-year-old shared his unhappiness with the show with The Observer after seeing images of Martin and Édgar Ramírez, who plays Versace, filming the assassination of the famous designer. "The picture of Ricky Martin holding the body in his arms is ridiculous. Maybe it's the director's poetic license, but that is not how I reacted. I felt as if my blood had turned to ice," he said after revealing he was not consulted for the series. "I saw Gianni lying on the steps with blood around him. At that point, everything went dark. I was pulled away, I didn't see any more."
Not many details about the show have been revealed, but according to Martin, it's a series no one can miss. "We're treating this story with a lot of respect and really serious about it. I'm so happy with the results. It's very dramatic and powerful, but you will also see a lot of love. The love between Antonio and Gianni was a very beautiful one."

After years of trying to combine vodka and ice cream (the two best freezer items, obviously), this genius company makes "homemade, hand-churned, smooth vodka frozen dairy dessert."
But Arctic Buzz didn't just pour a bottle into some preexisting popular ice cream. The Baltimore-based company has created specific flavors with a local distillery to ensure the blend of dessert and hand-crafted vodka goes down smoothly. So, say goodbye to those throat-burning bottom shelf college vodka memories, and grab your spoons.
Arctic Buzz ice cream comes in six flavors - Cookies & Cream, Key Lime Pie, Raspberry, Coconut, Vanilla, and Chocolate - all with varied alcohol content levels, ranging from 8.6 percent to 8.9 percent in the entire 100-milliliter container. And because we know you're wondering, the coconut flavor has the highest with 8.9 percent alcohol. The ice cream is sold at liquor stores across Maryland.

11 Things You Never Knew About Chipotle, Straight From an Employee
I went straight to the source to discover more Chipotle secrets. The famous Mexican grill had a lot to say about its most popular menu items, future releases, and ways you can save time and money. Be prepared to book it to your nearest Chipotle to satiate your burrito craving after reading these intriguing facts!
The standard burrito weighs over 1 pound!
"It depends on what you put in it. Most are about 20 ounces, but it's really up to you."
The menu changes are few for a reason.
"We like to focus on making just a few things but making them extremely well. We do make some changes and expansions on occasion. In 2014, we added our Sofritas, last year we added chorizo, and you may have heard the buzz that we're currently set to begin a new dessert [buñuelos] in very select restaurants, so stay tuned for more on that."
There is a way to skip the line.
"Most people don't know that nearly every Chipotle has an extra make-line in the back of the restaurant where digital orders (online or from our ordering app) can be prepared. This means that customers who order digitally benefit from shorter and more accurate pickup times, including the ability to reserve a future pickup time, and can skip the line to pick up their order."
You can get some occasional free stuff.
"We do a number of promotions during the year, from our annual Boorito Halloween promotion to appreciation days for groups like teachers or nurses, and occasionally offer BOGOs or free chips and guac. Customers can stay up to date by signing up for text and email alerts on our webpage."
The most popular order isn't a burrito.
"We serve more burrito bowls than anything else, chicken is the most popular meat, mild tomato salsa is our most popular, and of course our guacamole is a favorite - for good reason."
The burrito bowl was once a secret menu item.
"Our crews will accommodate most any request they can with the ingredients we have if someone wants it. The burrito bowl wasn't on the menu in the beginning but was added because customers ordered it so frequently. We used to make the bowls in the same red baskets we use to serve burritos but lined it with foil to make it a bowl."
Every bit of the food is actually handmade.
"If you were to look into the kitchen of any Chipotle, you'll see it more closely resembles that of a fine dining restaurant than your typical fast-food joint. You'll see people hand frying our taco shells, shredding cheese, dicing jalapeños, steaming rice, hand-mashing guacamole, and grilling chicken and steak in small batches so it is fresh throughout the day. They are cooking fresh food using the same skills and techniques used by classically trained chefs everywhere. Even the food we prepare in central kitchens is made with the same culinary detail to ensure that it tastes as good as it can."
Leftovers are donated.
"We have careful protocols and practices in place to make sure we're minimizing waste. That said, sometimes it's unavoidable. Over the years, we've partnered with more than 1,275 local community organizations to provide food for those who need it most. We are also in our 10th year of partnership with the Harvest Program. Through this organization, we have been able to donate enough food for more than seven million meals throughout the country."
Chipotle is the only national restaurant brand with no funny ingredients.
"This Spring we announced that all of the food we make contains only 51 whole, unprocessed ingredients. We accomplished that with the introduction of our new tortillas, which are free of any industrial additives - natural or artificial. Chipotle is now the only national restaurant brand with no added colors, flavors, or preservatives in any of the ingredients we use to make our food."
Chipotle goes way beyond fresh ingredients.
"We've always used fresh ingredients, but we also know that fresh isn't enough, anymore. We remain committed to serving meat from animals that are raised in more humane ways and without the use of antibiotics or added hormones, local and organically grown veggies when available, cheese and sour cream made with milk from pasture-raised dairy cattle, ingredients that are not genetically modified, and ingredients that contain no industrial additives."
Though Chipotle shared its guacamole recipe, the brand doesn't plan on giving out any other signature recipes.
"A perk of only using real, whole ingredients is that you can find everything we use on our menu at your own grocery store. But when it comes to the amount of each ingredient in a recipe - well, we've got to keep a few secrets."

Starbucks's Newest Fall Treat Is Basically a "Soft Little Pumpkin Pillow"
With so many pumpkin spice products arriving at Starbucks, we almost missed one new and exciting package snack: pumpkin spice madeleines. Each package comes with three madeleine cookies, which have been drizzled with vanilla icing.
According to those who have tried it, the pumpkin spice madeleines might be one of the best Fall menu items at Starbucks. Food blogger JunkBanter gave a glowing review and said, "They're a perfectly delicate blend of butter, vanilla, pumpkin AND ginger puree, the last of which I appreciate most." Adding, "These are soft little pumpkin pillows." Next time you're at Starbucks, you might not want to snag one . . . or a few.

Should You Go to Bed Hungry If You're Trying to Lose Weight?
You finished dinner two hours ago. You're hopping in the hay soon, but your brain and belly say to hop into the kitchen first. You're trying to slim down, though, so is it better to go to bed with a little something in your belly or absolutely nothing?
Nutritionists Stephanie Clarke, RD, and Willow Jarosh, RD, of C&J Nutrition say there's no black and white answer to this question, because it depends on your personal habits and healthy goals. But you ask, "shouldn't you feel hungry at night if you're trying to lose weight?" Let's just debunk a popular myth right now - eating late at night won't cause you to gain weight. As long as you're not exceeding your calorie needs for the entire day, it won't affect the scale. So there's no need to avoid eating for the sheer sake of dropping pounds.
That's not, however, giving you the green light to devour an entire sleeve of Oreos before slipping on your pj's. You don't want to eat so much that indigestion, discomfort, or pain makes sleep impossible, or that you're too full by morning that you need to skip breakfast, which can mess with your metabolism. But you also don't want to starve yourself because hunger pangs could be so intense that it makes it difficult for you to fall asleep or stay asleep. Holding off and depriving yourself can also backfire, leading you to inhale an entire pint of ice cream.
It's up to you to find a happy medium. If you're always hungry an hour or two after dinner, the solution may be just as simple as eating a little bit more for that last meal. Also make sure you're eating a balanced meal that includes protein, high-fiber carbohydrates, a little bit of healthy fat, and plenty of veggies, because that will help you to feel satisfied for longer. Or maybe eating a little something before bed is a nice little habit you're not ready to break up with. So don't! Just be sure you map out your day's eating schedule to allot enough calories (about 150) for after dinner. Preplan some healthy, properly portioned snacks - these snacks will satisfy your dessert cravings - so you can feel good noshing.
Is This Trendy Diet the New Mediterranean Diet?
You can't turn on the TV or open a magazine these days without being bombarded by the miraculous health benefits of the latest dieting fad. Most of these diets are not only ridiculous (I'm looking at you, Hollywood Cookie Diet), they also aren't sustainable. For a new way of eating to truly transform your health, it has to be something you can stick with; something that becomes your new way of life. Nobody can eat cereal or drink chalky shakes for two meals a day for the rest of their life - not happily, anyway.
In my experience as a nutritionist, the diets that actually help people get healthy and stay healthy are those that still allow you to choose from a wide variety of foods and are made up of mostly real, whole foods. There is a relatively new diet making the rounds, called the New Nordic Diet, that fits both of these criteria and looks pretty dang tasty, to boot.
What Is the New Nordic Diet?
The New Nordic Diet is rooted in the foods commonly eaten by people in Nordic countries like Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. According to University of California, Berkeley, the diet was originally established in 2004 by a team of nutrition professionals and local chefs with the goal of improving the eating habits of people in the region.
What Do You Eat on the New Nordic Diet?
Similar to the Mediterranean diet, the New Nordic Diet is all about fresh, whole foods: whole grains, seafood, meat, root veggies, dark leafy greens, low-fat dairy, and a variety of fruits. Here is a more detailed breakdown with a few examples:
- Eggs
- Seafood: salmon, herring, mackerel, tuna, trout, white fish
- Meat: poultry, wild game
- Root vegetables: onions, potatoes, leeks, carrots
- Leafy greens: cabbage, broccoli, kale
- Berries and fruits: blueberries, lingonberries, bilberries, apples, plums
- Dairy: cheese, milk, low-fat yogurt
- Whole grains: rye, barley, oats
- Fats: canola oil, nuts, seeds
Is It Healthy?
Just a quick glance will show you that red meat, soda, sugar, and other heavily processed foods are nowhere to be seen on the New Nordic Diet. That gets a big "two thumbs up" from this nutritionist. Most of us rely too heavily on fast food, sugary drinks, and grab-and-go snacks like cookies and crackers.
The New Nordic Diet also emphasizes a wide range of fruits and veggies, whole grains over refined, and lean meats over fattier cuts. Fruits and vegetables provide a powerful source of antioxidants; lean meats, seafood, and dairy pack protein; and whole grains give you fiber and energy-boosting carbohydrates.
Studies have shown that the New Nordic Diet can improve cholesterol and blood pressure levels. And, without restricting calories or portion sizes, it may help you lose a few pounds.
My only true hangup with this diet is that it calls for canola oil, made from rapeseed, over other known-to-be-healthy fats like olive and coconut oil. Canola oil made in the US is often chemically extracted, as opposed to the more natural extraction methods used to make extra virgin olive oil and unrefined coconut oil. The health factor of oils is best determined by the quality of the plants they come from (organic and non-GMO) and how natural the extraction process is. In Nordic countries, and possibly in the US if you know where to look, there are cold-pressed canola oils that seem to be of better quality than those available on most grocery store shelves.
Need a Few Ideas to Get Started?
One thing I love about this diet is that it doesn't have to be complicated. Breakfast can be oatmeal with fruit and nuts, lunch can be a salmon salad with loads of fresh veggies, and dinner can be roast chicken and potatoes. Need a snack? Stir mixed berries into plain yogurt or top a slice of rye bread with a little almond butter. Mmmm . . . sounds like a diet I could dig right into.
The 5 Worst Foods to Eat Late at Night
There's no need to deny yourself a late-night snack if you're feeling hungry, but you still have to think smart when it comes to eating late. Eating the wrong foods will disrupt your sleep while also adding a lot of unneeded calories to your day. Instead of just diving into the nearest, tastiest-looking item in your fridge, here are five types of foods to avoid at night and why.
- Greasy or fat-filled foods: Greasy, heavy, fatty foods not only make you feel sluggish the next morning, but they also make your stomach work overdrive to digest all that food. Stay away from things like fast food, nuts, ice cream, or super cheesy foods right before bed.
- High-carb or sugary foods: A little bit of something sweet before bed may be just what you need to rest happy, but if you gobble a huge slice of chocolate cake, the spike in your blood-sugar levels could cause your energy levels to spike and plummet, disrupting your sleep in the process. Avoid cake, cookies, or other desserts as well as carby snacks like crackers or white bread and munch on an apple instead.
- Red meat and other proteins: Like fatty foods, eating red meats late at night will sit in your stomach and make it hard for you to fall asleep while you're digesting (red meat may affect you the worst, but eating a large portion of chicken or pork would have the same effect as well). You don't have to avoid protein altogether, just make sure you go for lean and small portions, like deli-sliced turkey breast or a cup of yogurt.
- Spicy foods: Spices may be a natural cure-all for a range of ailments, but when you're craving something to eat late at night, step away from the hot sauce. Spicy, peppery foods may upset your stomach, and the chemicals in spicy food can also stimulate your senses, making it hard to fall asleep.
- Big portions: Late-night snacking shouldn't turn into a late-night meal. Keep the total amount of calories under 200 so you won't have any problems going and staying asleep. You'll also feel good knowing that you didn't undo all your healthy eating habits of the day right before bedtime.
So what should you eat instead? Small, light portions that will also calm cravings and help you sleep. Try incorporating these sleep-inducing foods or these low-calorie late-night snacks that hit all your sweet or salty cravings. And remember to limit how much alcohol you drink as well, since too many drinks can keep you up at night.

5 Tips to Help You Transition From Road to Trail Running
If you've fallen into a running rut, you might be ready for a change of scenery. Trail running can help you become a stronger runner overall and it can aid in injury prevention, as softer surfaces help diminish the risk of wear and tear on the body. It's also the perfect opportunity to leave your watch at home, forget about your pace, and help your body recover from other hard workouts. Here are five tips to get started!
Work on your core and upper-body strength
"Because the terrain is often hilly, it's not only important to incorporate hill work into your regular training, but also functional gym work, so that your body can adapt to the varied terrain and constant changes in direction that come with trail running," said Lesley Paterson, owner and co-director of Braveheart Fitness Coaching in San Diego, and author of The Brave Athlete: Calm the F*ck Down and Rise to the Occasion.
Think about what you enjoy most about running
If you love to run with others for the social aspect of the sport and are more flexible than structured when it comes to setting a run pace, you are likely to enjoy and benefit most from trail running. "Because the terrain is often challenging and varied, it is more likely to dictate your intensity than the other way around," Paterson told POPSUGAR.
Invest in trail-specific shoes
It's important to wear shoes specifically made for trail terrain, as they create stability for the ankle and provide a good grip on slippery surfaces, Paterson said. Furthermore, they are sturdier and protect your feet from rocks and other hazards. Paterson herself wears trail shoes by On Cloudventure.
Keep safety in mind
"Always run with someone who knows the route, or make sure to have a map and a clear idea of where you're going," Paterson says. "Play it safe, and always let someone else know where you are running, on which trails, and how long you think you will be gone." Additionally, be sure to carry food and water in case you have a problem and get stuck. Lastly, if you are running in an area rife with wildlife, try to always run with someone else rather than alone.
Start slowly
You're likely not even going to come close to your normal easy pace that you cover on the roads once you switch to the trails. You may even slow to a walk at times. This is because the terrain is so varied and different, and you need to be aware of your footing, or you are likely to trip and fall. Always give yourself more time to complete a trail run than you would estimate for the same difference on the roads. Now just relax, slow down, and take in the scenery.

30 Tiny, Chic Wrist Tattoos That Are Better Than a Bracelet
If you truly want to wear your heart on your sleeve, then the wrist should be the canvas for your next tattoo. A flat plane fairly easy to tattoo, the wrist is popular for first-timers and small designs or sayings. While the wrist is generally a more visible tattoo spot than, say, the ribs or back, this placement allows for easy coverage with foundations or bracelets - making it an ideal choice for those who might be slightly tentative to get inked in a more prominent location. Conversely, we're also partial to the wrist because of its visibility: the conspicuousness of this spot is perfect for tattoos meant to serve as a source of inspiration, support, or reminder.
But don't just take our word for it - check out these gorgeous pieces of wrist ink to get some serious tattoo inspiration.
