This $15 Product Saves Me 10 Minutes on My Morning Makeup Routine

Author's Note: As you may have noticed, I work for POPSUGAR. But this review is a genuine take on a new favorite product and was not influenced by my employer. It's just that good!

One of the big perks of my job is getting a heads-up from my boss, Lisa Sugar, when she's developing a new Beauty by POPSUGAR product that she thinks I'll be excited about. Sometimes I even get to help name them! When she gave me an early test sample of the line's new Eye Sorbets, which are now available online and through Ulta, I knew it was going to become a new staple in my summertime beauty bag.

My first day trying the sorbets, my coworker (and fellow beauty enthusiast) Macy gasped when I sat down at my desk. "Your eyes look stunning!" she said, and I explained that it was a combination of the new Eye Sorbet shades. "Well, that creamy formula is so shimmery, it almost seems magical," she said. "It reflects light and brings attention to your eyes."

I can't make this sh*t up, y'all.

While I'm obsessed with the look of the sorbets (which are the consistency of a whipped creme shadow), I'm even more stoked about the ease of application. The packaging suggests using a brush, but I'm a born rule-breaker and use my fingers to apply the sorbets. It's laughably easy to get shimmery, semi-iridescent coverage on my lids with just a teensy dab of product, and I won't even have to clean any brushes! Double-win. Quickly swiping shimmery color on my lids in the morning easily saves me 10 minutes of blending, messing up, starting over, and so forth.

Check out the sorbets in action ahead, then shop 'em for yourself to experience the magic.

Finding the perfect black eyeliner is like searching for a needle in a haystack. It seems impossible! That's why I was excited to hear about a new option that's going viral. This Maybelline Master Precise All Day Liquid Eyeliner ($6) is the bestselling option you can get on Amazon. It has over 3,000 customer reviews and about 60 percent of buyers give it five stars. So why are so many people buying this pen?

Even eyeliner beginners can master this pen because it's so easy to use.

The color is an inky black that dries matte. Even eyeliner beginners can master this pen because it's so easy to use. Messing up is nearly impossible.

"This precise eyeliner is my favorite," one reviewer wrote. "I have used other liners in the past that will skip or bead up along the eye line I had just drawn, but this covers everything in one perfect, even coat."

Add this eyeliner to your shopping cart ASAP! Your life is about to get so much easier.

Meghan Markle's First Updo as Duchess Proves She Can Do More Than a Messy Bun

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry delayed their honeymoon to celebrate Prince Charles's 70th birthday and so Meghan could show us she's got the whole royal hair thing down. OK, that last part is just my speculation, but I can't help but compare Meghan's tightly coiffed chignon with her wedding-day controlled messy bun. So, to all the type A-ers out there who lose their sh*t upon seeing the duchess's loose tendrils: relax. Harry's got himself a girl who can do both structured and ethereal.

While giggling with her in-laws outside of Buckingham Palace, Meghan sported a low side bun that was tightly wrapped and secured. It was the perfect palette for her wide-brimmed white hat, and with her hair pulled back we got a glimpse of the duchess's subtle highlight. Not sure if that shine comes from an actual product or is just a postwedding glow, though.

After Trying This Cult Favorite, I Threw Away All My Other Lip Balms

Some people have chapped lips in the Winter - I have chapped lips year-round. The unwelcome dryness is the one lingering side effect (not counting my blemish-free skin) from my six months on Accutane years ago. It's a small problem to have, but man does it bother me. I have tried dozens of lip products, from traditional balms to medicated ointments. Recently, I even bought a highly rated, specialized lip peel from Amazon. That one worked to temporarily soften my lips, but everything else just seemed to make the dryness worse.

Then I found Glossier Balm Dotcom.

My trendy coworkers had been using Glossier for years, but despite the features on POPSUGAR, I hadn't tried anything from the brand - not the cult-favorite Boy Brow, not the Hero Duo that everyone had been raving about, and not the Balm Dotcom that I was certain wouldn't work for my chronically dry lips.

After seeing the product pop up on so many "best of" lists - minty lip products, best balms, chapped lip cures, even best gifts for men - I whipped out my credit card.

You can buy the glosses individually for $12 or get a bundle of three for $30. I opted for the trio because, frankly, it was too hard to decide among the flavors: Original, Birthday, Rose, Cherry, Mint, and Coconut. Each promised to moisturize, but some had added benefits like a tingling sensation (Mint), a subtle shimmer (Birthday), or a deep red tint (Cherry). I went with Cherry, Mint, and Coconut (because I love tasting like a tropical vacation in the Winter).

My package arrived a week later. I ripped the balm out of Glossier's signature pink pouch, slathered it over my parched pucker, and waited. The balm itself is waxy and reminded me of my mom's heavy-duty Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream. Whereas most products I've tried just sit on my lips and eventually make them even drier, the Balm Dotcom soothed my skin, and within minutes they felt healthier. For once, advertising promises came true for me!

Billed as a "universal skin salve," the balm is multipurpose (meaning you can squeeze some out and put it on your cracking elbows), and it deeply hydrates, thanks to antioxidants and natural emollients. It's dense and definitely doesn't have a high-gloss finish, so if that's what you're looking for, move along. The shades (especially Cherry) are flattering without screaming, "I HAVE LIPSTICK ON," they all taste juicy as hell, and, best of all, the product actually works.

I was so happy with the results that I cleared out my balm box, where I'd been hoarding products that kinda, sorta helped my dry lips. After my dog ate the Cherry (devastating true story) and I immediately misplaced the Coconut, I ordered another trio to spread around my car, purse, and bedside table. My lips feel more hydrated overall, and now I just use the balm because I love the dense texture and the flavors. It's great for daily use, and I'll layer it on top of lipstick if I'm feeling fancy.

If you're at the end of your rope, looking for something that will actually help your chapped lips, I can't recommend Balm Dotcom more. It's the only product that worked for me, and it might just work for you, too.

Aaliyah’s Brother Explains Why Her MAC Line Holds More Significance Than You Think

"My mom has kept everything over the years, since we were babies," Rashad Haughton, brother of the late R & B singer Aaliyah, told POPSUGAR. Even after his sister's untimely death in a plane crash in 2001, her favorite makeup products - lip gloss, plus red and black lipstick - stayed inside a plastic baggie his mother Diane couldn't bear to part with. Seventeen years later, after fans petitioned for a MAC x Aaliyah collab, Haughton toted the baggie into the makeup giant's corporate headquarters to ensure his sister's famous style was reflected in the line's 12 new products.

"This entire line is really for the fans," Haughton said. "My mom calls them 'the special ones.'" When the petition started, Haughton "didn't hesitate" to take its signers up on their challenge. "The brand was so important for my sister in her everyday life, plus her career," he said.

The dedication to Aaliyah's legacy is perhaps most evident in the range's shade names. "We wanted to make sure every single product either was named after a song, or represented a place or moment in her life." Hence the glossy beige Brooklyn Born Lipglass (the singer's family hails from Bedford-Stuyvesant) or the Age Ain't Nothing But a Number Eye Shadow Palette, an homage to her 1994 debut album.

But despite the collection's nods to '90s culture, Haughton wanted to keep the line modern, too. "Those archival music video looks are so iconic, but it's 2018, so we want to satisfy younger fans, too." Haughton also wanted to channel the woman his younger sister would be today. "She was confident, creative, and not afraid to take risks," Haughton remembers. "That self-assuredness is so important for young women right now. I wanted the line to adapt to fit people of any shade, any creed, culture, or religion, or orientation."

"She was confident, creative, and not afraid to take risks."

Haughton thinks about his sister every day, but working as a consultant for this project brought back even more of memories of Aaliyah. "A lot of people don't know that she was hilarious," he recalled. "We'd joke about each other all the time." Even though Haughton worked in stand-up and was used to being around comedians, he stayed impressed with his sister's timing. "She'd be the one person that would get me with a joke, and I wouldn't even have a comeback," he said.

One specific example of her humor came after Aaliyah shot the 2002 film Queen of the Damned in Australia (it was released posthumously). Haughton had just graduated college and decided to stay in the country for an extended vacation after shooting wrapped. "I called her one day, she was in a car driving," Haughton explained. "I had developed an accent, but I couldn't hear it in myself. She laughed so hard at me, and mimicked my voice. It was fantastic; it sounded like she was in Tropic Thunder. Even the driver was laughing."

Haughton didn't want to have to pick a favorite Aaliyah song - "the albums are such great pieces as a whole" - but when pressured, he picked a crowd favorite. "'One in a Million' is such an incredible song," he said. "That's the point where R & B completely changed with what Timbaland and Missy [Elliott] did. Incorporating some of the jungle rhythms and the multiple kicks, having crickets in the background, even radio was shy to play it. But once they did, it changed music." He also said that "I Care For You" has helped him through tough times in life: "I feel like she's speaking to me."

This Star Wars Art Will Make You Wonder Why Disney Princesses Don't Carry Lightsabers

You're not over seeing amazing Disney/Star Wars mashup art yet, right? Good, because we found some new ones that have us senselessly fangirling all over again.

Illustrator Phill Berry recently shared his take on the Disney princesses as Star Wars characters, wherein they're rugged, lightsaber-wielding Jedi badasses.

Featuring Ariel, Jasmine, Rapunzel, and Belle - for now - the illustrations also include the princesses' respective sidekicks! For example, Ariel is shown with a hovering drone that is meant to resemble Flounder, and Belle is accompanied by her beau, the Beast - who in the Star Wars universe is most likely a Wookiee.

See the incredible illustrations that are kind of making us wish they cast Jasmine in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

10 Student-Teacher Relationships That Cross the Line

At what point does it become acceptable for a student to date a teacher? It's obviously a no-no if the student is underage, but some colleges have banned student-teacher sex completely, even between consenting adults. For years, the topic has fascinated filmmakers and viewers alike. Some are particularly racy takes on these scandals, like the film A Teacher, while other affairs are explained more easily - Drew Barrymore is an undercover reporter in Never Been Kissed, therefore technically fair game ( . . . still a little shady). Here are student-teacher liaisons that cross the line from cute to questionable.

See "World's Biggest Git" Percy Weasley in a WHOLE New Way

In the words of Ron Weasley, Percy Weasley is, in many ways, "the world's biggest git." Of the Weasley clan, the third oldest brother is always the butt of the family jokes. He is pompous, he's an overachiever, and he famously chooses his job at the Ministry of Magic over his family. Percy might be many things, but most of all, he is misunderstood. So let's talk about Percy, who is perhaps the least endearing Weasley sibling but certainly not without his strong suits.

A recent Reddit thread explored why Percy is the way he is and delved into his motivations behind both his good and his bad choices in the Harry Potter series. He doesn't always have it easy, but considering his circumstances, things aren't quite as black and white with the former head boy as they seem. And if you really think about it, he is pretty remarkable in his own way. Redditor booksblanketsandtea brought up some pretty interesting observations.

Can we talk about how an incredibly ambitious young man likely ended up in the worst possible House for him because he was terrified of disappointing his family? Can we talk about how he'd been told his entire life that to be ambitious (to be Slytherin) was a bad thing? Can we talk about how protective he was of Ron and Ginny when they came to Hogwarts? How proud he was of Ron, for besting McGonagall's chess set (because who do you think taught Ron how to play? It certainly wasn't the twins, and I doubt either Molly or Arthur had time).

Can we talk about how Percy felt more accepted and comfortable at the Ministry - where people couldn't even remember his name - than he did with his own family, who made him the butt of practically every joke, who either looked down on his goals, or couldn't be bothered to show an interest simply because it wasn't something they themselves were keen on? (And people wonder why he sided with the Ministry over his family, over Harry - who was a complete stranger and was more easily accepted than he ever was?)

Let's talk about how maybe Gryffindor was the right House for him - because even after all this, when he was proved wrong, he had the guts to come back, to apologise to his family that he loved (and who did, of course, love him - even if they didn't really understand him). Can we talk about how brave that was? "Perfect Percy" admitting he was wrong to his Father who [he] had once idolized, and then working as a spy for the Order? Keeping that distance between he and the rest of the family in place so he could feed them info about the Ministry? Before he turned up at the last minute to help fight at the Battle of Hogwarts? About how he lost his little brother, who - if Percy had been just a minute or two later down that passageway - would have died practically hating him? About how Percy likely went the rest of his life thinking that - if given the chance - his family would rather that he had died, instead of Fred? How he himself likely wished that that had been the case? Can we talk about how Percy Weasley was, in the end, perhaps the perfect amalgamation of Slytherin and Gryffindor? Just - can we talk about Percy?

Should we give Percy a little more mercy? Maybe if Percy had been in Slytherin instead of Gryffindor, he would have been able to foster his talents differently. Maybe if he'd been able to relate to his family more and if they'd been more open to who he was despite his undeniable prat-like qualities, he would have felt closer to them despite his job at the Ministry.

But let us not forget that when it really matters, Percy comes back for his family. He bursts into the Battle of Hogwarts ready to fight alongside the rest of the Weasleys, and he does something that many people - even the beloved heroes of Harry Potter - have a hard time doing: he admits he was wrong. He initiates a reconciliation and does what he can to start to repair his relationship with his family and begin again with them all. Brave, brilliant, calculating, ambitious, and loyal. Yep, sounds like the perfect combination of a Slytherin and Gryffindor to me, too.

"Take That, Trump": Senator Makes History With Campaign Ad Featuring a Same-Sex Kiss

In 2006, Rich Madaleno made history as Maryland's first openly gay senator. Now, Madaleno is making history once again: the 52-year-old senator is currently vying for the Democratic nomination in the Maryland gubernatorial race, and on June 6, he aired the nation's first political campaign ad to feature a same-sex kiss.

In the delightfully shady video, the candidate lists the many things he's done to "already infuriate" President Donald Trump. Madaleno has defended Planned Parenthood, banned assault weapons in Maryland, and fought for public school funding over private school vouchers. "Take that, Betsy DeVos," remarks one hilarious child featured in the ad. At the very end, Madaleno demonstrates the ultimate way he "pisses off" the president by kissing his husband, Mark Madaleno, in front of their home and seated by their two children.

According to Victory Fund, the ad aired during Fox & Friends in the Washington area on the morning of June 7. "June is LGBT Pride Month and I couldn't think of a better time to release this ad," Madaleno said in a statement. "I am proud of my family, proud of my record of standing up for our progressive values, and proud to be unflinching in standing up against hate."

The Viral Story of an Abandoned Dog Found in a Garbage Bag Will Make Your Heart Cry

Malissa Sergent Lewis was driving through her hometown of Harlan, KY, when she noticed a black garbage bag moving along the side of the road. Curious, Lewis went to inspect the bag only to find an abandoned puppy inside of it. Though the puppy had a collar, it didn't have a tag.

In an interview with The Dodo, Lewis explained the unexpected and horrifying discovery. "I could hardly wrap my mind around that," she said. "Something was alive in that bag, and I just knew I had to get whatever it was out." As one might imagine, the dog was relieved to be found. "As soon as I opened it up, and he saw light, he just started wagging his tail. He knew he was OK," she said.

Lewis has yet to figure out the circumstances surrounding the dog's abandonment, but investigators are reportedly looking into it. Lewis did share the miraculous story on Facebook in a series of videos that have gone viral with close to 20,000 shares. Accompanying the videos is a caption that states, "If this is your puppy, let me know. If you are the scoundrel who put it in a garbage bag and tossed it on the side of the road . . . you're a sicko."

Lewis is currently trying to find a permanent home for the dog, but she will continue to foster it until that happens. Perhaps one of those 900,000 viewers might be interested?

7 Bathroom Updates That Increased the Value of My Home

After buying our condo three years ago, my husband and I knew we'd eventually have to redo the guest bathroom in our hallway. It had a wobbly shower insert, dated finishes, and an impractical vanity without much storage. I hated going in there. So after a couple years of saving - and avoiding the room - we decided to bite the bullet and take on a small remodel project.

A before photo of my bathroom.

An after photo of my bathroom.

Creating a bathroom that reflected my own style was one of the main goals of the project. But I also wanted to stay in budget and avoid quirky updates that would decrease the value of my home. After doing some research, I discovered where I could save - and where I should splurge.

Don't just take my word for it. I caught up with HGTV star Scott McGillivray to check my work. After talking to him, I now know which updates gave me the most bang for my buck. McGillivray is the host of Income Property and wrote How to Add Value to Your Home. According to him, "next to the kitchen, the bathroom is the most important room in the house when it comes to resale."

That doesn't mean you have to spend more to make more. There are specific updates in the bathroom that are worth the investment, and others areas where a little goes a long way. Based on McGillivray's expertise these were the seven changes that had the biggest impact on my home's value.

Change the mirror.

"My number one suggestion is to get rid of the frameless builder grade mirror over the vanity," says McGillivray. Check! I did just that. We found this modern mirror ($240) that came with the bonus of a built-in shelf to hold candles, a small vase, or guest toiletries. It also acts as a statement piece.

Choose affordable tile.

What's the best place to save when you're redoing your bathroom? Tile, says McGillivray. "There are so many great, inexpensive tile options out there. I don't know why anyone would blow their budget on high-end tile." The marble hexagon floor tile is one of my favorite details in my bathroom, but it didn't break the bank. We were dedicated to getting an affordable price and limited ourselves to looking at wholesale warehouses - not even entertaining more expensive options.

Can't help yourself? "If there's a really expensive version that you've fallen in love with use it as a feature somewhere, like over the vanity, and then surround it with a less expensive version," recommends McGillivray. He also has this advice for making less-expensive tile last: "Make sure you've got a good waterproofing system like Kerdi board underneath it. This will ensure that whatever tile you choose it will last as long as you live in the house."

Get rid of 1980s wall texture.

I was determined to rid myself of that orange-peel look on the bathroom walls. But I wondered, was the more modern clean look worth the expense? "Yes," McGillivray reassures. "If it looks dated it indicates that it might not be well taken care of, and it might put potential buyers off." It's the same with those classic blue and pink fixtures, he says. "Some people like the retro feel, but they can be a nightmare for resale value."

Opt for frameless glass shower doors.

"Two things that are seriously worth considering are frameless glass shower doors and heated floors," says McGillivray. "I wouldn't go so far as to say they always add value, but I try to include them whenever possible." While we didn't need heated floors in San Francisco, we did change out our aging frosted shower insert for glass doors and blue glass subway tile.

Increase storage.

I decided to chuck my existing vanity, which was an awkward height and had no shelves or drawers inside. I traded it for the GODMORGON / BRÅVIKEN model from Ikea, which has deep drawers and a decent amount of space around the sink.

A vanity with storage must always be considered, according to McGillivray. "Don't get me wrong, pedestal sinks are nice," he says. "But they're really only practical in small powder rooms. Get as big a vanity as the room can handle and make sure it's got plenty of storage space."

Mix high and low.

"I've never believed that you have to spend a ton of money to make a room look great and to get a good return on investment," McGillivray reassures. "Spend money and invest in high-quality items when it comes to the items you touch everyday - like faucets and hardware."

I'm happy to say I took that approach. As mentioned, I opted for the GODMORGON / BRÅVIKEN vanity, which cost $479 from Ikea. It looks remarkably like the modern high-end vanities that go for thousands of dollars. I paired this "low" item with high-end hardware. We went for sink and shower pieces from the European brand Grohe. Chances are that potential buyers will notice the quality brand name, if and when we resell.

Add non-permanent personality.

"When it comes to resale value, you always want to keep the major elements clean and simple. Stick with neutral colors," says McGillivray. But let's be honest, I wasn't selling my place tomorrow and wanted to have a little bit of fun. According to McGillivray, it's safe to personalize things like lighting, hardware, and accessories. That's what we did with our light from Cedar & Moss ($269) and print from Minted ($165).

"There's no particular accessory that adds value," McGillivray explains. "It's more about how they work together to make the space look fresh and updated." Admittedly, when it came to our accessories my husband and I didn't worry about matchy-matchy. We wanted accessories that had the same overall feel, without obsessing over whether the wood or metals matched. And here's the beauty: if the next buyer doesn't like those non-permanent details, they can always change them.

How to Roast Vegetables to Perfection

Looking for a quick, easy, and enticing way to incorporate more vegetables into your life? Roasting may very well be just the solution you need. Not only does the blast of high heat cook vegetables to fork-tender in next to no time, but it also magically caramelizes the edges, making each bite slightly sweet and all the more enticing.

Little more than a bit of prep work and roughly 20-30 minutes of cook time separates your meal from the addition of a brightly colored, mouth-watering, and rather healthy side. And while methods vary slightly from vegetable to vegetable, follow these general guidelines:

  1. Preheat the oven: Aside from tomatoes and other delicate produce, which shine when slow-roasted at a lower temperature (try 200°F), most vegetables benefit from a blast of high heat, as it promotes browning and caramelization; generally, 400-450°F is a good place to start.
  2. Prep the vegetables: Usually this just means a quick scrub with a vegetable brush and a rough chop (1-inch cubes is pretty standard), but some produce like Winter squash requires a bit of peeling and even the removal of seeds but is still very easy to prep. For oddballs like brussels sprouts, trim off the woody stems, peel away any dried-out and tough outer leaves and halve the tiny cabbages so that they have a flat surface to rest on (flat surfaces allow the most pan contact and browning). Smaller root vegetables like carrots can be left whole (just trim off excess carrot tops).
  3. Season the vegetables: The easiest way to do this is to drizzle a half-sheet pan or cast-iron skillet with a healthy helping of high-heat-safe oil (like grapeseed or canola) and toss the vegetables in the oil right on the pan; this also helps to grease the pan so that the vegetables won't stick. Afterward, generously sprinkle the whole lot with kosher salt and freshly ground pepper (or any seasonings you choose to incorporate), tossing once more to coat. Also, make sure to spread everything out in a single even layer so as to promote even cooking and browning.
  4. Jazz things up (optional): A few sprigs of hearty herbs like thyme or rosemary can be tucked in whole or minced and sprinkled on with the salt and pepper. Alternatively, try adding a drizzle of maple syrup or honey. Just make sure to line the sheet pan with parchment paper so that the sugars won't burn and stick to the pan. To ensure that the sweetener at hand evenly coats the vegetables, toss everything together in a large bowl and then spread out on the pan.
  5. Roast away: This will depend greatly on the density of your vegetable, the size of the pieces, and how hot you choose to heat your oven, but most will be ready to eat in about 20-25 minutes, with tougher varieties like Winter squash requiring up to 40 minutes. When trying out this method, use common sense and check often; the vegetables are done and ready to eat when they're fork-tender and have begun to brown.
