The 1 Thing Happy People Do Every Day
Growing up with a mother as a counselor definitely had its perks: she was incredibly patient, a supportive listener, and always gave the best advice. Even though my mom is retired, she continues to help others by sharing her years of wisdom on what it takes to be truly happy. She's told me time and time again that while material goods might make me happy in the moment, that feeling is fleeting. I've learned people who are the happiest don't have the most money or aren't the most attractive, but they all share one thing in common:
Happy people practice gratitude every day.
While this may seem simple enough, our minds tend to focus on what we're missing out on instead of being grateful for everything we already have. Our generation has it even harder because we are living in a social world where we are constantly connected. It's easy to feel like you don't have enough when everyone on your social feed appears to be doing cooler things than you.
Good news: there are ways to practice gratitude each day to live your best life. Here's how.
1. Meditate
Starting your day with five minutes of silence has been proven to change your brain chemistry, making you more resilient against life's hardships. However, there are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to meditation. I used to think you had to think about absolutely nothing (which is pretty much impossible) during your practice. But really, meditation is all about being present and not focusing on what you're going to have for dinner or that you forgot to pick up something at the grocery store. The purpose of meditation is to take time for yourself to set an intention for your day and be grateful in that moment.
2. Create a gratitude journal
A gratitude journal is different than a regular journal because it makes you focus on only the good stuff rather than venting about your worries or writing down everything that went wrong in the day. Each day, you should write down at least three things that you're grateful for. By doing this, you can actually rewire your brain to be happier. It's kind of like the "camera effect." When you have a camera, you're constantly looking for interesting things to capture. Instead of hating the graffiti, you might shift your way of thinking and try to make it aesthetically pleasing in your frame. That's how the gratitude journal works for your disposition. Instead of focusing on pessimistic thoughts, you're going about your day looking for positive things to add to your gratitude journal.
3. Surround yourself with positive people
Reflect on your mood and outlook, after you spend time with certain friends. Do you feel inspired and connected or do you feel drained and dissatisfied? If it's the latter, you might want to reevaluate your friendship. We only get one life to live, so why waste any time surrounding yourself with negative influences? It's not easy to cut certain people from your life, but it's even worse to feel unhappy because of the people you're surrounded by. By positioning yourself around inspirational and positive people, you're setting yourself up for a more sunny outlook and successful future.
4. Talk back to your negativity
You know that inner dialogue that says you're not smart enough, pretty enough, or cool enough? While those nagging thoughts are completely normal, the trick is to talk back to them with positive affirmations so they don't get in the way of your happiness. It may seem silly at first, but it works, trust me. If I catch my mind going down a dark rabbit hole, I counter it with logic and positivity. It's OK to have bad thoughts, but what's more important is how you react to them and to make sure they don't take over your life.
5. Focus more on your community and others than yourself
When you're down in the dumps, it's easy to get lost in "me, me, me," which can lead to self-pity and depression. However, when you take yourself out of the equation, you'll start to feel happier because you're helping other people. Try volunteering, writing cards to loved ones, or cooking dinner for a friend in need.
If you practice gratitude each day, you'll slowly start to see a positive change in your disposition and overall outlook on life. It will take discipline and self-control, but really, aren't things you work hardest for worth it in the end?

The Best Snacks to Fuel Your Workout
You've got to have energy to have an effective workout, so let your pre-workout snack help you push yourself to do your best. Here are a few pre-workout snack ideas that do just that!
Exactly What You Need to Know Before Your First Orangetheory Class - Including the Price
You've probably heard of, or seen an Orangetheory fitness studio. The interval-based workout franchise, which is the brainchild of physiologist Ellen Latham, is exploding and now boasts over 700 locations nationwide, from New York to Alaska.
While the name Orangetheory is cool in and of itself, there's actually quite a bit behind it. Read on to have your questions answered about how much classes cost, what's involved in each session, and what you'll ultimately get out of a membership.
What is Orangetheory? To get the most out of your workouts, you'll need to buy into the gym's so-called Orangetheory, which is based on the physiological theory of "Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption," or EPOC. Basically, the goal of any sweat session at OTF is to train within the "Orange Zone," a target heart rate, for 12 minutes or more. Doing so is said to improve your endurance and overall fitness. You'll even burn major calories up to 36 hours post-workout.
What's involved in a typical session? During your one-hour interval workout at OTF, you'll be coached through both cardiovascular and strength exercises. A class might start out with treadmill, bike, or strider work, then switch to weight-training via TRX suspension machines and free weights. At the end of a sesh, OTF claims you will have burned upwards of 500 calories!
Is there any special equipment involved? The short answer is "yes." To effectively monitor your heart rate, OTF uses its own heart-rate monitors. So your Fitbit won't be compatible with their app-enabled system. Once you are equipped with either the OTBeat Flex, a heart-rate monitor worn on your forearm, or the OTBeat Core, a chest strap, your individual heart rate is displayed on screens around the room. You're only competing with yourself, however, since again, the goal is to hit the Orange Zone for at least 12 minutes of your workout. Fun incentive: for each minute you stay in the Orange Zone, you earn a "Splat point," which can be tracked via the app.
How much do classes cost? Membership rates vary depending on where you live. We talked to Orangetheory, and they told us there's a range of membership packages to choose from, from Basic (4 classes for $59/month) to Elite (8 classes for $99/month) to Premier (unlimited classes for $159/month). These are just estimates, so it's best to connect with a studio rep to discuss a plan that works for you. No matter which level you go for, no annual contract is involved. Phew! And you can take additional classes at a discounted rate once you purchase a membership; the average cost of a class is $28. It's also worth noting the heart-rate monitors require an additional fee; between $5 and $10 for a rental, and between $69 and $99 to purchase. The good news? Anyone can try a free introductory class. And there's an app for that, too, and for booking future sessions.
What else do I need to know? All this stuff about heart rate and points and interval training zones may sound intimidating. But the truth is, since your results are individually tracked and assessed, Orangetheory classes are designed for all fitness levels. The classes are led by coaches who are there to motivate you to be your personal best and reach your fitness goals. No matter where you start, OTF claims you will see increased energy in one month, "amazing results" in three months, and the start of a "new you" in six. Sounds like it's worth a try!

If you rely on sleeping pills for a good night's sleep, take note: a recent study found that those who took sleeping aids like Ambien and Lunesta had a higher risk of dying sooner or developing cancer. Wine Kegs Are Now a Thing - Need We Say More?
Quick question: have you ever stared at a photo of some new, groundbreaking invention and genuinely wondered to yourself, "Where on earth has this been my whole life and how have I survived thus far without it?" Well, that perfectly sums up what just happened inside my brain when I found out that freakin' wine KEGS are a thing that exist in this world.
Bridge Lane, an adorable wine label based in Long Island, NY, is the miraculous creator of not one, but five wine-filled kegs that have me counting down the days minutes until my first backyard Summer party. The vino-licious contraptions come filled with either chardonnay, rosé (can you say #RoséAllDay?!), white merlot, sauvignon blanc, or a red blend. One keg contains 19.5 liters of boozy goodness, which translates to 26 bottles, if you'd like more of a visual picture of just how much wine is shoved in these things.
Each of Bridge Lane's wine kegs costs $240 and can be purchased online for doorstep delivery via Lieb Cellars, the winery that owns the label. A quick note for anyone who doesn't live in or near Long Island: your keg will be delivered with the bag of vino inside a "sturdy cardboard case" rather than the usual blue plastic shell, for shipping purposes. Check out and shop each of the adorable kegs below. Bottoms up, fellow wine-lovers!

JAY-Z Admits He Purposely Skipped Kanye and Kim's Wedding in a Revealing New Song
JAY-Z and Beyoncé shocked the world with the release of their joint album, Everything Is Love, on Saturday. On the surprise LP, the proud parents take aim at their own marital strife, digs from President Trump, and, yes, even Kanye West. In case you haven't been keeping up, JAY and Kanye have been feuding since 2016 after Kanye ranted about the 4:44 rapper on stage. At the time, Kanye said he was upset JAY didn't call him following Kim Kardashian's robbery incident in Paris.
In 2017, Kanye exited from TIDAL streaming service claiming he was owed "more than $3 million" in fees. Later that year, JAY-Z broke his silence on their rift, telling hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson that he was "hurt" when Kanye brought up his daughter, Blue Ivy, during one of his Saint Pablo tour rants. In another interview with T: The New York Times Styles Magazine, the doting dad revealed he was on speaking terms with the Ye rapper, saying, "I love Kanye. I do. It's a complicated relationship with us."
In May, Kanye opened up to radio personality Charlamagne tha God about JAY-Z and Beyoncé's glaring absence at his wedding in 2014. "Respectfully, I have to say I was hurt that they didn't come to the wedding," he shared. "I understand they were going through some things, but if it's family, you're not gonna miss a wedding." Fast-forward to Everything Is Love, and JAY-Z is spilling the full tea on why he purposely chose to skip Kim and Kanye's lavish ceremony.
"I ain't goin' to nobody nothin' when me and my wife beefin' / I don't care if the house on fire, I'm dyin', n*gga, I ain't leavin'/" the 48-year-old raps on the sixth track aptly titled "Friends." "Ty-Ty take care of my kids, after he done grievin' / If y'all don't understand that, we ain't meant to be friends," he concludes.
The candid lyrics confirm that JAY-Z chose not to attend because he was dealing with turmoil in his own marriage, which he felt needed to be resolved. On the song, JAY also name-drops a list of people he considers close friends, and Kanye doesn't make the cut. Take with that what you will. Looks like the feud between these two rap titans is far from over.
12 Shirtless John Cena Photos That Are So Sexy, You Won't Know What to Do With Yourself
John Cena may clean up nicely for red carpet events, but in all honesty, we prefer him shirtless in the wrestling ring. Between his bulging biceps and his washboard abs, our mouths are watering just from thinking about them. However, John's shirtless body isn't the only thing we should be obsessing over - the 41-year-old wrestler also has a heart of gold. Not only does he currently hold the title for the most wishes granted by a celebrity for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, but he's also a passionate advocate for breast cancer awareness. Yep, John really is the total package.

23 Reactions to Pixar's Bao, Because We Weren't Expecting to SOB Over a Little Dumpling
The following contains spoilers for the Pixar short film Bao.
Hello, it's me, reporting from the depths of my feels because I still haven't recovered from seeing the Bao Pixar short film last night. Like many others, I flocked to my local theater to see Incredibles 2 and get thrown into some good old Disney nostalgia, 14 years in the making, but I was unprepared for the purely adorable short that played before the main event even began.
Bao is the first Pixar short directed by a woman, Domee Shi, who drew from her own childhood for the sweet film. The short focuses on a baby dumpling and its creator, or "mom," and wow there's something so cute about that little piece of food with legs I can hardly stand it. Plus, those who have seen the short already will know there's an underlying message of family that will truly tug at your heartstrings. I saw the film with my mom and couldn't help but make tearful eye contact with her during the most emotional moments. For those of us who grew up in the original Incredibles generation, Bao is the perfect reminder of our childhood, a transition to adulthood, and the importance of remembering your roots.
After I stepped out of the theater, I scrolled through my Twitter feed and realized many others felt the same way about the short film. If you were a weepy mess like me, reading the following fan reactions will be oh-so relatable . . . and they'll probably convince you to give your mom a call.
Kim Kardashian Causes a Stir in Cornrows at the MTV Movie and TV Awards
Kim Kardashian hit the red carpet with her mom, Kris Jenner, at the MTV Movie and TV Awards in NYC on Saturday. The mother-daughter duo stuck to a black-and-white color palette for their looks and stayed close while posing for photos together. Kim chose to wear her hair in cornrows for the event, which served as a painful reminder of her Bo Derek-inspired photo shoot back in February. The reality TV star and mother of three has come under fire for wearing culturally appropriated looks, but as she told Instagram commenters earlier this year, she gives "zero f*cks."
Kim recently made headlines for helping to free great-grandmother Alice Marie Johnson from jail by urging Donald Trump to grant her clemency on her life sentence. The two women met for the first time in an interview for Today last week, and Kim revealed her plans to continue fighting for prison reform.
Tiffany Haddish Is the Host With the Most at the MTV Movie and TV Awards
Tiffany Haddish stunned when she hit the red carpet for her big night at the MTV Movie and TV Awards in LA on Saturday. Not only did it mark her first-ever appearance at the show, but she also made history as the show's first black female host since the MTV award show began in 1992. When she announced that she'd be hosting the show back in February, she promised it would be hilarious, and with Tiffany, you know that's going to be true. The comedian and actress recently cracked up the crowd when she appeared at POPSUGAR Play/Ground, and you can't help but laugh at some of the hilarious things she shared with us. Check out all the best pictures from Tiffany Haddish's fun night at the MTV Movie and TV Awards.

Ariana Grande and Troye Sivan Defy Expectations With Their Dreamy New Duet
Troye Sivan just dropped his new single, "Dance to This," featuring none other than pop star Ariana Grande, and to be frank, we're shook. The song comes at an undoubtedly perfect time for both artists - Sivan is in the midst of preparing for his Bloom tour, and Grande, who has releases with rap queen Nicki Minaj nearing our headphones, also just announced her recent engagement to her boyfriend of just a few weeks, Pete Davidson.
"Dance to This" embodies everything that, according to Grande's Instagram, makes Sivan the pop king of our generation. And to no surprise, Grande shines at her midsong break, which really ties this single together.
The only thing better than a Sivan/Grande collab, you might be asking? A tour appearance. Or maybe a celebrity friendship we didn't know we needed? More singles? Let's just say all of the above, but while we wait, if you haven't already, listen to this undeniable Summer jam.
