Why You Should Never Ignore Painful Sex

If you ever find sex to be a painful experience, it could be a sign of an underlying health condition. Frustratingly, it's often dismissed as a mental health issue rather than an actual physical problem. Whatever your pain is stemming from, one thing is for sure - it's best not to ignore it. Donna Begg at YourTango helps explain why painful sex may occur and what steps to take if it does.

When sex hurts, it's tempting to just "grin and bear it" or have a drink to get through. Don't.

A great number of publications can be found on male sexual health, explaining commonly experienced sexual dysfunctions among men and how these can be treated with medication, therapy, and other techniques.

Unfortunately, for women, there is quite a lack of information related to female sexual dysfunction.

The majority of publications will describe female sexual dysfunctions as a symptom related to relationship issues, emotional distress, and mental health problems - declaring that female sexual dysfunction revolves around the women's psychological health and not with her physical well-being.

Even healthcare providers often advise a woman complaining about experiencing issues during sexual intercourse, like painful sex, to have a drink and try to relax.

While mental issues are a possible contributor to sexual dysfunctions among women, it should be noted that there are physiological factors that may also become an attribute in problems such as sexual pain disorder, a low sex drive, and poor self-lubrication.

Unfortunately, the majority of doctors will dismiss the possibility of a physical factor contributing to a woman's sex-related issues and rather refer her to a therapist or advise her to implement better stress management techniques to help her mind calm down.

In this article, we want to stress the importance of looking at pain during sex as a possible alarm for an underlying health issue in women, instead of immediately dismissing the complaint as a mental health problem.

Painful Sex: A Signal For Underlying Health Conditions in Women

A report published by Cosmopolitan explains that a recent survey found as much as 10 percent of women experience pain during sexual intercourse. The survey also found that women in the age group of 16 to 24 were more likely to experience pain while participating in sex than women who fall in other age groups.

Additionally, the survey also concluded that, among those women who do experience this problem during sex, there were some common conditions also present, including:

This is just one of many studies and surveys that have been conducted on sexual dysfunction among women. The majority of these reports find that there is a strong connection between painful sex and mental health issues.

This provides an appropriate overview of why so many healthcare providers would immediately dismiss painful sex as a mental problem instead of viewing it as a possible sign caused by an underlying health condition.

This is where the problem comes in. Yes, there is a connection between painful sex and mental health, but the connection is very complicated.

The fact that a woman may experience sexual anxiety might be a contributing factor to her painful sensations during sex, but, at the same time, she may be experiencing anxiety because she fears the fact that sex could be painful.

Medical News Today explains that there are quite a large number of physical causes that need to be considered. To better determine the possible cause, it is first important to determine whether the woman is suffering from pain during entry or at a deeper level in her vagina.

When a woman experiences painful sensations during entry when participating in sex, then common physical causes may include vaginal dryness, as well as an injury to her genital region.

Infections, including those caused by sexually transmitted infections, can also cause entry pain. Additionally, it is also important to consider the fact that inflammation, skin irritation, skin disorders, and birth abnormalities can also contribute to pain during entry.

Vaginismus, a condition where the pelvic floor muscles are contracted involuntarily, also causes this type of sexual pain disorder.

If the pain is experienced deeper in the vagina or at a specific location, then it may be due to a medical condition that the woman is suffering from - often without even knowing it.

Common medical conditions that cause deeper pain include cystitis, endometriosis, fibroids, interstitial cystitis and ovarian cysts. It has also bee found that pelvic inflammatory disease and irritable bowel syndrome can cause these symptoms

Additionally, uterine prolapse is also found in some women who complain about pain during sexual intercourse.

Mental health is known to play a crucial role in the sexual well-being of women, with depression, relationship issues, anxiety, and high-stress levels greatly contributing to poor performance in the bedroom.

Physical health can, however, also be to blame in many cases, but is often overlooked by doctors as a possible factor in certain conditions women tend to complain about, including sexual pain disorder.

Looking at both the physiological and psychological well-being of women experiencing pain during sex is vital for uncovering the underlying factors that are causing these symptoms, instead of simply advising the women to "relax" and work on her relationship.

This Is How Much Protein You Need Daily to Reach Ketosis, According to an Expert

If you're currently on the keto diet or getting ready to start, you'll want to make sure you're following it correctly. Making mistakes like eating the wrong fats and too much protein can jeopardize your results. According to Catherine Metzgar, PhD, RD, a nutrition scientist and clinician at Virta Health, the ideal macronutrient profile on the keto diet should be close to 70 to 80 percent fat, 15 to 20 percent protein, and five to 10 percent carbohydrates. Eating more macros than recommended can prevent you from reaching nutritional ketosis, the state when your metabolism begins to run on fat instead of carbohydrates.

Dr. Metzgar told POPSUGAR that in her experience, one of the reasons people fail to reach ketosis is because their protein intake is too high. This is because protein has a moderate insulin-stimulating effect that can interfere with ketone production when too much is consumed. According to doctors at Virta Health, studies have found that "most healthy humans maintain lean body mass and function during a ketogenic diet providing between 1.5 and 1.75 grams of protein per kilogram of 'reference body weight'." To find out how much protein you need to consume daily, utilize the following chart created by Virta Health. Note that 1.2 g/kg is the low end of recommended daily protein intake, 1.5 g/kg is midrange, and 2.0 g/kg is the upper end. The doctors at Virta Health advise never going below 1.2 g/kg of protein daily.

Habitually snacking on foods full of protein can cause you to go over your daily protein limit on the keto diet. To prevent this from happening, the Virta Health team recommends eating five servings of nonstarchy vegetables a day, like asparagus, broccoli, or peppers. Remember to consult your doctor before making any changes to your diet.

It happens to the best of us - whether it's due to that rich, delicious restaurant meal last night or the lovely side effects that accompany our periods, we wake up bloated. It's especially miserable to be bloated on a day when we're headed to the beach or have a special event that requires getting dressed up (and heaven help us if we got a form-fitting outfit for the occasion). Luckily, there are tips and tricks that can help us debloat overnight, and some of them even prevent, or at least minimize, bloating in the first place. Shaun T Says These Are the Best Exercises to Build Muscle (Workout Included)

Believe it or not, if you want to build strength and improve your overall muscle tone, weightlifting isn't your only option. You can achieve both tone and strength by using a weight you're never without: your body. Squatting down to pick something up, standing from a seated position, and jumping off a curb are all everyday examples of bodyweight exercises. More fitness experts are advocating for bodyweight training because you aren't just sculpting your muscles, you're learning functional movement patterns.

Shaun T, creator of the popular Beachbody program Insanity, told POPSUGAR that his favorite bodyweight exercises are the plank and the push-up. "You work your shoulders, your core, you have to keep your butt tight, your legs work, and your back has to be involved," he said.

If you want to transform your body, try this quick workout from Shaun T. Do a superset of 20 push-ups followed by holding a plank for 20 to 30 seconds, with little or rest between the exercises to build "muscular endurance and core strength." Repeat for two to three rounds.

Ahead are some push-up and plank variations to use for your workout.

I'm a Fitness Editor, and This Is the One Thing I Travel With to Get in a Good Workout

When I'm on vacation, I look forward to sleeping in, catching up on my reading, and hitting up cocktail hour (usually by a beach or a pool). But I also like to keep up a workout schedule so I can feel healthy and energized during my trip. Plus, it helps keep some semblance of structure to my days so I'm not completely off my normal routine.

Usually, that means hitting up the hotel or resort gym or going for a run. But sometimes, there isn't a gym or a safe running path available. To make sure I get in a good strength training workout, I pack a couple of resistance bands. Unlike dumbbells, they don't weigh down my luggage, and they are super flexible and easy to pack. And you don't need much room to use them; if you can find a place to stand up and extend your arms out, you can use a resistance band.

I like to do bicep curls, overhead presses, triceps presses, and squats, but you can also work your abs, too. I prefer the thicker bands with the handles, but you can also get in a good workout with the flatter, thinner ones without handles and smaller booty bands. At around $20 for a set, you can't beat the price.

If you're planning to spend a few days away from home, buy your own resistance bands, like this Tribe 11-Piece Set from Amazon for just $21. Throw some in your suitcase and get in a good workout on vacation!

Summer Slumber: 10 Tips to Help You Sleep When It's Hot Out

If there's one thing I've mastered after surviving 20 blistering Summers in Texas, it's how to stay cool while sleeping. We've all been there: you either toss and turn all night trying to find the cool, untouched spot on your sheets, or, if you do manage to fall asleep, wake up stuck to your sheets, drenched in sweat and feeling sluggish. It's no wonder, too, because research has shown that there's a palpable link between insomnia and body temperature. Luckily, there are some easy tips and tricks you can utilize to start staying cool and sleeping better. Try out the following suggestions to help make your sleeping environment optimal for a Summer siesta.

  • Make sure you pick the right material for your bedsheets. Typically cotton, linen, and silk will help you stay the coolest.
  • If you have air-conditioning, keep your bedroom door closed to keep the cool air insulated inside the room. If there is no air-conditioning, leave the door open for better ventilation.
  • Keep a fan in the room. Fans are great for rotating air and giving you a light breeze.
  • Just like with bedsheets, it's important to wear the right type of material for pajamas. Cotton or silk will work best, and make sure to keep whatever you wear loose.
  • Take a cold shower before jumping into bed - nothing will cool you down faster!
  • Keep the room dark. Turn the lights off and keep curtains or blinds closed.
  • Switch out your comforter for a lightweight Summer blanket or use a flat bedsheet.
  • Drink a glass of chilled water before going to sleep. This will naturally cool down your body temperature.
  • Stay still! It can feel unbearably hot to lay down after running around, but if you wait for your body temperature to naturally cool down, the room will eventually start to feel cooler.
  • Ice your neck and wrists for a few minutes to feel an immediate cool sensation.

I Want to Pay For Half of My Engagement Ring - Why Is That a Big Deal?

A few months ago, after being in a relationship for years and talking about getting married, my boyfriend suggested we stop by my favorite jewelry store to take a look at engagement rings. It goes without saying that I was excited; not only was this was a big step in our relationship, I already knew what kind of ring I wanted (it's only natural when you work in fashion). But when I finally saw what that marquise-shaped diamond looked like on my finger, I realized it wasn't what I'd pictured at all. Instead, we ended up falling in love an emerald cut surrounded by smaller stones and set in classic gold. It was regal, different, and eye-catching - and it was also $17,000.

I always knew engagement rings weren't cheap, but that particular price seemed outrageous to me. Even if my boyfriend had that kind of money (and I'm pretty confident he does not), I wouldn't let him spend it on a tiny piece of jewelry - something that's so trivial in the grand scheme of things, aka spending our lives together. And that's when it hit me: why was he the only one spending money here? Wouldn't it be better if we just split the cost? Maybe then we could afford something really nice (although maybe not $17,000-nice).

In 2018 - a year where women continue to fight for equality - I'm not sure why buying an engagement ring should be any different.

For the entirely of our relationship, this is how it's always been. If he buys lunch, I'll pay for dinner. If he's spending $250 on me for Christmas, I'll spend $250 on him. If he's taking care of half of the rent, I've got the other half. Sure, sometimes it depends on pay schedules or unforeseen expenses, such as flat tires or bachelorette getaways, but for the most part, we aim to keep things even. And in 2018 - a year where women continue to fight for equality - I'm not sure why buying an engagement ring should be any different.

Unfortunately, my boyfriend isn't totally sold on this idea. He wants to buy the ring on his own, and right now, a good argument is that he's making more money than I am. But as we continue to talk about getting engaged, I'll continue to offer. Maybe it's not half - maybe, instead, I'll put a specific amount aside for him to use, this way he can still "surprise" me (yes, I've thought about this at length). I just feel like paying for a portion - even a small one - is the right and more practical thing to do. After all, we'll be beginning the rest of our lives together as equals, why not start here?

This Beach in South Africa Is COVERED With Penguins, and You Can Take Photos With Them!

Newsflash: you don't have to freeze your face off in Antarctica to hang out with penguins. You can get up close and personal with the aquatic birds in a much warmer, Summer-approved locale: South Africa. About 30 miles south of Cape Town is Boulders Beach, a rocky cove that's home to thousands of adorable African penguins. Also known as "jackass penguins" for their donkey-like whinnying, this particular species is endangered, but that doesn't stop them from living their best lives in the sunny South African climate. The black-and-white cuties spend their days waddling around, swimming in the ocean, and posing for photos with tourists (sounds pretty relaxing to us!).

If you're interested in visiting Boulders Beach soon, we've got a few facts and pointers to pass along first:

  • Boulders is located in Simon's Town, South Africa, and is part of Table Mountain National Park.
  • The beach is public, but there's a small entrance fee that helps maintain the grounds.
  • If you prefer to view the penguins from afar, there's an elevated boardwalk to admire them from.
  • You can swim in the water, but it'll likely be pretty frigid.
  • Visitors are advised to avoid touching or feeding the penguins. They have razor-sharp beaks, and they're not afraid to use 'em if they feel threatened.
  • During popular Summer months, parking can be scarce, so it's suggested to arrive as early as possible on the day of your visit.
  • The adjacent beach, Foxy Beach, is also inhabited by penguins and is typically less crowded than Boulders.

Jon Stewart Has a Message For Donald Trump About His "Gleeful Cruelty and Dickishness"

Jon Stewart, the guy Donald Trump "made sure everyone knew was Jewish on Twitter," made his return to late night TV on June 28. The former Daily Show host took over the The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to directly address Trump and his presidency. "I just want to say if there's one aspect to your presidency that we're finding most difficult, it's that no matter what you do, it always comes with that extra layer of gleeful cruelty and dickishness," he said, speaking directly into the camera.

The former host of The Daily Show touched on Trump's attack on the women who have accused him of sexual assault, NFL players who have taken a knee in protest, John McCain, and the current immigration situation in the US. Stewart ended his monologue with six powerful words that will surely resonate with a lot of people: "By not wielding, we will prevail." Watch the rest of his message in the video above.

Get a Gleaming Bathroom Fast With This 1 Nontoxic "Magic" Soap

Let's face it - bathrooms are gross. Even the tidiest among us still have to deal with hair-clogged drains, grimy sinks, and shower tiles coated in thick layers of shampoo, conditioner, and who knows what. But when cleaning day comes around, forget toiling away with rolls of paper towels, scrub brushes, and several different harsh chemical cleansers. All you need is this one bottle of magic soap, and you're just minutes away from a sparkling-clean bathroom. Pull your hair back, pump the jams, and let's get to work! You'll be good to go after just one song.

After discovering Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Liquid Soap while on my quest for nontoxic beauty products, I was hooked. These 18-in-1 soaps are really just that with near limitless cleaning possibilities around the house. I wash my feet with peppermint soap for a cool tingle, hose the dog off postbeach with lavender soap, and tuck a small bottle of sweet almond for shampoo and body wash in my gym bag. But on one particularly rushed morning, I accidentally spilled more than my intended amount of soap into my bathtub. While mopping it up I made another brilliant discovery: I have seen no other product, chemical or nontoxic, clean up the slimy shower grime the way Dr. Bronner's did.

Getting down with the dirty is easier than A-B-C, baby. Here's how it's done!

Gather Your Arsenal

All you need is a bottle of Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Liquid Soap ($16), a sponge, and an empty spray bottle. Any scent of soap will do. Most are blended with essential oils for an aromatherapy-like cleaning experience, so pick your favorite. I love using lavender for calmer vibes or citrus for a pop of energy. Gentle unscented is also available (and even gentle enough for babies' delicate skin).

Dilute Your Soap

To power-clean your bathroom, Dr. Bronner's blog recommends diluting your soap with water at a 1:4 ratio in a squirt bottle. Shake it all up and stash it under the sink, making future cleanups a breeze.

Spray, Wipe, Shine!

Spritz a few bursts of your soapy-water mix onto all of your bathroom services. Then grab your sponge (or Magic Eraser) and wipe up the grime. Rinse and dampen your sponge in between surfaces to make sure all of the product and scum is gone. You can use this same spray on your countertops, in the bathtub and shower, and on and around the toilet. You can even mop with it - simply dilute one-half cup of soap into three gallons of hot water and swirl the mess away.

Time-saving hack: I love cleaning my shower while I'm actually in it. That way, I don't mind getting wet, and the shower spray rinses all of the residue away without wasting more water with a separate wash! Plus, I can use the Dr. Bronner's soap safely on the shower surfaces and my body alike.

This New Smoking Green Drink From Disney Is a Dream to Look at - but OMG, Those "Cherry Pearls"

If Buzz Lightyear were a drink, he'd be the new Infinity Fizz beverage from Disney California Adventure. With the arrival of Pixar Pier comes a whole slew of delicious new menu items, and we just can't stop staring at the smoking green drink from the Lamplight Lounge. The Infinity Fizz is made with Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, apple juice, and "cherry pearls," which are essentially cherry juice-filled balls that resemble boba tea balls. But the best part about the drink is that it's made with dry ice, so it appears to smoke. (Pro tip: one Instagram user said the smoking dry ice only lasts about five minutes, "so be quick to get that photo!")

While the $7 Infinity Fizz doesn't contain alcohol, there are plenty of cocktails on the menu at the Lamplight Lounge for you to get your fix, and if you really want to get your buzz on, we recommend the "fizzy cocktail" known as the Server Room Chill. "It tasted like a greyhound. Vodka and grapefruit," one lucky taster told POPSUGAR. "It wouldn't be what I normally order, but I wanted the experience. One thing I will tell you . . . IT WAS POTENT! I got my booze bang for the buck!"

Read on to see the photos of the Infinity Fizz drink, because although it may taste like apple juice, it looks pretty damn cool in photos.

Queer Eye's Antoni Doesn't Need to Impress You With His Culinary Skills, He's Just Here to Help

There's a reason the food Antoni Porowski makes on Queer Eye isn't especially intricate. Through the beloved Netflix original series, now in its second season, the 34-year-old, Montreal-born chef simply wants to make viewers less afraid of cooking. So, he'll teach people how to make guacamole or an omelet because he isn't trying to dazzle viewers with his advanced culinary techniques. He's just here to help.

In a phone interview with POPSUGAR to promote his mixology partnership with Vita Coco Sparkling, Antoni shared his thoughts on delivery culture and broccoli lattes, and he dished out some details about his fairly under-wraps restaurant . . . without getting himself in trouble.

Antoni likes to keep things simple. As a self-described "purist" with "more traditional sensibilities," he's not here for the most recent viral what's it called. The latest food trend that elicited an "eye-roll" from him? The broccoli latte. "I can't imagine it to be pretty delicious. I feel like hot broccoli should be roasted, charred, or it should be like a cheddary broccoli soup," Antoni said. "Anything too gimmicky tends to throw me off."

While that's clearly a hard pass on the broccoli latte, Antoni has quite the affinity for popcorn, his favorite snack for a Netflix binge-watching session. "Whenever I eat, I like to eat a lot of it. Moderation is not really in my vocabulary as hard as I try," he said. To satiate his cravings, Antoni will jazz up up some popcorn by adding peanut oil and a lot of black pepper, then microplaning some Parmigiano-Reggiano that "clings" to the popcorn due to the oil. "It's healthier than chips," he said. "It's not deep-fried, and it still kind of feels very junk food-y, which I really like."

To wash it down, Antoni recommends making simple-ingredient cocktails with Vita Coco's new fizzy range, like a take on the classic Moscow Mule made with the lemon ginger can or a refreshing Paloma made with the grapefruit can. "It's really good as long as you drink it really cold. Coconut water has to be very cold in my opinion," Antoni said. Otherwise, "I won't tell you what it tastes like, but it does have a weird taste when it's warm."

Though he technically wasn't supposed to talk about it yet - "I got a little gentle slap on the hand," he said - Antoni recently revealed that he is planning to open his own fast-casual restaurant in New York City. What he could say is that the food will be healthy. "It's food that you can have before or after the gym and still feel good about your life and feel like you're making good decisions - at least on the food front."

He also wants some of the dishes to simply add to what customers are already cooking up. "There's going to be a delivery option for certain protein-based things that are a little more time-consuming to make in terms of stews and roasts and things like that," he said. "So, you can always order something like that but then make your own salad, and at least it shows your guests that you actually made the effort to do something. The term has already been coined, but semi-homemade is the idea."

"I feel like people are intimidated by cooking because they see food as this elitist thing - which it can be, but it doesn't have to be."

So, yes, while his restaurant will have delivery, Antoni doesn't want customers to give up on cooking. "Everything is done for us," he said of this generation's growing dependence on food delivery. The chef shared his interesting theory about why young people, especially those living in urban areas, might feel intimidated by cooking. With the recent influx of elevated food shows and documentaries, Antoni said, "Everyone kind of thinks that they know everything, which has helped us be more knowledgeable but also more opinionated. I feel like people are intimidated by cooking because they see food as this elitist thing - which it can be, but it doesn't have to be." He added, "Get to know your produce or fruits or vegetables and learn how to work with it from there."

35 Things You'll Regret Doing in Life

"Life is too short" is so cliché, but also so true. Not to sound morbid, but our days are limited and we never know when our time will be up. We tend to think we're invincible, especially when we're young, and don't often live to the fullest because we don't think of the bigger picture. We let ourselves get caught up in such trivial things that seem silly when we look back, or we don't take care of ourselves until our bodies give us a clear and scary sign to. Mindfulness is one way to practice living in the present, and all it really takes is to step back every once in a while to reflect on your choices. You only live once, after all, so why not make this a life without any regrets? See 35 things you'll regret doing down the line and consider changing a few things for yourself.

5 Methods For Grilling Fish That Will Earn You the Title "Grill Master of Summer"

From hot dogs to halloumi and wild leeks to watermelon, just about every provision can be made more delicious on the grill. My recent obsession is fish; a short trip to the grill takes its delicate flavor profile for a wild ride, imparting a char and an intoxicatingly smoky aroma that can't be replicated. Another reason to love fish on the 'cue: the versatile protein also works well in an extensive range of preparations. Here are five of my favorite methods:

  1. Grill it whole. If you're new to grilling seafood, it doesn't get much easier than grilling a whole fish. Anoint it with oil, sprinkle it with salt, and toss it on the grill. Once cooked, all it needs is a sprinkling (if that) of herbs and a squeeze of lemon.
  2. Grill a bunch of smaller, sustainable fish. Yes, that'd be heads, tails, and all. Serve it simply with flaky Maldon sea salt and lemon juice. Here's a step-by-step for how to do it the Spanish way.
  3. Shape patties for burgers. Pulse a firm-fleshed, meaty fish (such as salmon or tuna) in a food processor, then season it with salt and pepper. Pack the ground fish into a mold, then grill it until it's cooked through and serve it between burger buns.
  4. Grill the fish in a packet. This method will yield similar effects to the healthy French en papillote preparation, except you'll want to wrap the fish in foil rather than parchment packets to prevent burning.
  5. Use a cedar plank. Cooking on a cedar plank will impart even more dimension to the flavor of grilled fish. Purchase inexpensive, aromatic cedar planks, presoak them to avoid smoking, then cook the fish over a closed grill for extra earthiness.

Avocado-Lovers Will Want to Fly All the Way to Korea For This New Starbucks Drink

If your avocado obsession knows no bounds, then you need to meet Starbucks Korea's newest seasonal menu item: the Avocado Blended. The frozen drink pays homage to avocados in every way, from its ingredients to its vivid green design . . . which includes a chocolate "pit" to mirror a real avocado!

The creamy, avocado-flavored beverage has actually graced Korean Starbucks locations before, when it was first introduced three years ago - and as of June 26 it's back by popular demand. But while the flavor will be familiar to the hardcore avocado fans who fell head-over-heels for the Avocado Blended back in 2015, the dark green "peel" design and chocolate topper are new, Instagram-friendly additions to the beverage.

Once you get an eyeful of the creative look from the photos ahead, you won't be surprised that there are already thousands of snaps flooding Instagram and even fan art of the drink bubbling up online. Now, who's ready to go to Korea for an Avocado Blended of their own?

The Best Way to Grill Asparagus

Before I learned this method, my grilled asparagus always ended up stringy, charred, and shriveled. I had all but given up hope that it could ever taste good, unless wrapped in bacon. However, while at a dinner party, I learned a new way of cooking it that is foolproof.

  1. Buy thick, hearty stalks of asparagus. These are less likely to fall through grill grates. Prep the asparagus by snapping off the woody ends and then peeling the stalk skin.
  2. Lightly coat the asparagus in a neutral-tasting, high-heat oil, using your hands to evenly coat each stalk.
  3. In a medium-high grill, place the asparagus stalks perpendicular to the grill grates. Close the top and allow the asparagus to cook/steam for approximately 30 seconds. Open the grill top, use tongs to flip toss the asparagus around, close the top, and cook for another 30 seconds.
  4. Remove from the grill and salt and pepper to taste.

That's it! You can try leaving the asparagus on longer, if you prefer grill marks, but you will find this quick method cooks the asparagus through while maintaining a slight crunch.

5 Steps to Pizza-Grilling Success

Of the less-than-conventional foods to throw on the grill, my favorite is probably pizza. I love a luscious, melted pie in any form, but there's something about the crunch and char of the crust from the grill that makes barbecued pizza irresistible. Thinking of throwing a pizza on your grates for the first time? Here are a few tips for grilled pizza pizzazz.

1. Make sure your grill is hot!

When it comes to pizza crust, the higher the temperature of your grill, the more blistery, chewy, and crispy your pizza will be. If you don't have a thermometer on your grill, then check the heat using the "Mississippi" test: hold your hand three inches over the grill grates, and start counting, "One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi," and so on. If you can only count to two or three before the force of the heat makes you pull back your hands, then you know you've got your grill at 600ºF or higher.

2. Know the basics.

Brush your dough with oil. Then, once you've hand-stretched it or rolled it out, gently drape the dough over the hot grates. Cook until the dough puffs and grill marks begin to appear underneath, about one to two minutes. Using tongs, flip the dough over, then cook until the other side is slightly charred, another couple minutes. Then add your cheese and cooked toppings, close the cover, and allow everything to meld and the cheese to become oozy (this will take several minutes).

3. Take advantage of the grill-oven hybrid method.

If you're adding toppings that require cooking time, or if you've got limited grill space and time, then try starting the dough on the grill, add your toppings, and then finish the whole thing in a preheated oven. This works especially well with toppings such as raw sausage in a hot sausage, pepper, and onion pizza.

4. Make sure your pizza's thin - but don't worry if it isn't the prettiest.

A superthick crust will mean the possibility of an undercooked, doughy pizza. Roll or stretch your pizza dough out to no thicker than 1/8 of an inch. That said, don't worry if your pizza's not a perfectly rectangular or round shape. The more uneven and rustic, the better.

5. Close the lid when your pizza's on the grill - always.

It's the only way to trap in the smoky flavors of the grill, and it's also the surest way to make sure your cheese melts.

The Right Way to Grill Hot Dogs and Sausages

Grilling hot dogs and sausages might seem like a culinary task so simple that instructions aren't necessary. In many ways it is (easy, that is), but to do it right requires a pinch of know-how. The key thing to know is that both of these Summer cookout staples are temperature-sensitive and prone to splitting and drying out. Instead of throwing them straight on a smoking-hot grill, follow one of these two methods:

  1. Simmer then grill: Parcook the sausages prior to grilling by simmering them in water (or beer!) until heated through, about five minutes. Once hot, grill each side for a couple minutes over medium-high heat, until golden brown.
  2. Grill very carefully: Build a two-level fire in your grill (meaning medium-high heat on one side, no flame on the other). Cook the sausages on the cool side, flipping occasionally, until warm. Once warmed through, grill each side for a couple minutes over medium-high heat, until golden brown.

This Gorgeous Disney Cocktail Tastes Devilishly Nonalcoholic - and It's Under $9

When drinking in a Disney park, the name of the game is efficiency and affordability. Nobody wants to wait in mile-long lines to order another drink every 15 minutes, and they definitely don't want to pay an arm and a leg every time they need a refill!

Enter the answer to your boozy Disney prayers: Violet Sake from Epcot's Japan Pavilion. Available for under $9 at Garden House, the vividly purple beverage tastes deceivingly nonalcoholic . . . so be careful before chugging it!

Violet Sake is listed on Garden House's menu as "a refreshing balance of Sake, purple pear, and lime juice." According to reviewers, the cocktail tastes like a grape Jolly Rancher had a baby with violet lemonade, creating a perfectly refreshing beverage for sipping during a hot Florida day. Yum!

Ready to book your tickets to South Africa so you can visit this heavenly spot? Browse through the photos below as a virtual tour of sorts, and you'll certainly feel inclined to start planning your trip to hang out with the African penguins ASAP.

22 Nostalgic Latinx Hits to Blast at Your Next Party

With Latinx hits climbing to the top of the charts in the US as of late (I still have "Despacito" stuck in my head), I think it is time to revisit the jams of yesteryear. There's no party like a Latinx party, and the weddings, quincs, bar and bat mitzvahs (I know I'm not the only Hispanic with Jewish roots), and other pachangas of the '90s and early aughts had some of the greatest music around. With salsa, merengue, reggaeton, and everything in between, these Latin hits are sure to hit a nostalgic chord and remind you of dancing with your cousins, drinking Jupiña, and all-around living your best life.
