Jewelry Designer Gina Nigrelli-Smith Gives Us the Inside Scoop on What Inspires Her Cool Pieces
When curating our POPSUGAR Must Have box for Fall, we wanted to include designers who would effortlessly elevate our subscribers' Fall style. One of the first girl bosses who came to mind was Gina Nigrelli-Smith, the founder of jewelry brand Jules Smith. Gina is known for her bold, boho style that shines through with the pieces she creates.
We included one of Gina's designs, the Jane Cuff ($90), in this season's box. The glamorous bracelet is flawlessly smooth and also adjustable, allowing you to wear it on your arm or on your wrist. It also features a geometric design that's easy to slip on or flip over for a simpler look to complement every outfit.
If the gorgeous cuff itself won't get you excited for the Must Have box, the story of Jules Smith will. Read on to learn more about Gina and the gorgeous jewelry she dreams up.
POPSUGAR: Why did you create Jules Smith?
Gina Nigrelli-Smith: I was living in the Caribbean and became intrigued by the jewelry culture. I lived in St. Thomas, which is a large cruise ship port, so the local economy is very dependent on jewelry. I have a background in merchandising and had always wanted to design a collection. I met a few local jewelers, who taught me enough to get started, and within a few months, Jules Smith was born.
PS: Where did the name come from?
GNS: Smith is my married last name, and Jules is the middle name of one of the jewelers that helped me to get started. We were a fine jewelry collection when we launched, so the play on words "jewel smith" was part of the decision.
PS: You were previously a ballet dancer and fashion editor - how do those experiences influence your designs?
GNS: I have always been a creative person; I stopped dancing after college and knew that I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to be creative. Going into fashion was an obvious next step, and I spent my time as a fashion editor going to part-time design school at night to learn the technical side of design.
I am obsessed with travel, and a majority of my design inspiration comes from my trips around the world.
PS: What was the inspiration behind the Jane Cuff? How would you style it?
GNS: I love arm candy, and the Jane Cuff is probably my favorite Jules Smith piece. I wear mine every day. I love this cuff because you can wear it alone or layer it. The Jane Cuff is very comfortable and light - it makes a statement but does not weigh down your wrist.
PS: You recently visited Greece and Costa Rica. Do your travels leave you feeling inspired?
GNS: I am obsessed with travel, and a majority of my design inspiration comes from my trips around the world. I try to travel at least once a quarter, as I believe it keeps my perspective fresh, which helps me maintain a consistent but eclectic point of view in my collections. I love buying jewelry and accessories from the places I travel and using them as inspiration for future designs.
PS: What is your go-to daily jewelry look?
GNS: LAYERS. I wear about five to 10 necklaces every day; my fingers, wrists, and ears are stacked. I wear hand chains on both hands. You can never wear too much jewelry.
If you want to get the cuff in your POPSUGAR Must Have box, make sure to sign up by Sept. 1 so you can select the color of your choice. It comes in rose gold, gold, or silver. Don't wait!
This Spanx Bra Is So Comfortable, My Boobs Go Through Withdrawal When I'm Not Wearing It
Are you one of those people who sort of just "turns up" random pieces of lingerie in your dresser drawer without remembering the exact moment of purchase? Same. That's what happened with this Spanx bra. First of all, who even knew Spanx made bras? I must've blinked my eyes five times at the tag when I held up this silky-smooth T-shirt bra, which clips at the front, and asked, "Where the eff did I get you?"
While you might have thought of the brand as a go-to for shapewear and those high-waisted, control top shorts you wear under your fancy wedding guest dresses, hear this: Spanx makes the best damn bra I have ever worn, called the Bra-llelujah! Full Coverage Bra. And after doing some research, I found it's sold at so many different department stores, including Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Lord & Taylor.
When I take off the Bra-llelujah! at the end of the day, I don't actually feel that "sigh of relief" so many women refer to, and that's because I had no problem moving about all day long with the bra on. While I do like the accessibility of a front closure, I think it's the super-stretch band (made entirely from hosiery) on the back that I love so much. I have no other bras that offer such stretch and flexibility, and still give me support. Also, the straps are made from the same material as the band, so my shoulders don't get irritated from snappy, taut little straps.
This bra is equipped with underwire, but it provides lift, and there's enough padding to make my AA cup look like a solid A or maybe even a B if I'm wearing a tight bodysuit. I like that! I swear to you that investing in this bra will be the best $68 you have ever spent. Even better? Once you become a dedicated fan, you can scoop up any of the 10 other colorways or designs stitched with adorable little patches.

Zara Re-Created One of Meghan Markle's Most Talked-About Outfits, and You'll Want It Now
I've been obsessed with Meghan Markle and her incredibly chic wardrobe since the first time I saw her in Suits. Sure, her style has ever-so-slightly changed since she became Mrs. Prince Harry, but it's actually made me love her even more. While the Duchess of Sussex does follow most of the rules, she also knows what she loves, and she certainly isn't afraid to push the boundaries.
For her very first appearance at Trooping the Colour, Meghan stunned in a pink off-the-shoulder ensemble by Carolina Herrera, and I still remember thinking, "Wow, she looks breathtaking." Accessorized with a matching Philip Treacy hat and a clutch, her outfit was sophisticated and elegant (if not a little protocol-breaking), and I've been thinking about it ever since - so you can imagine my delight when I came across a Zara blazer that looks exactly like the top half of the stunning Herrera creation.
While the blazer in question comes in a fiery red instead of a powder pink, I immediately recognized the gorgeous bateau neckline and its fold-over collar. The other two main differences are the presence of pockets and two rows of buttons instead of one, but it didn't keep me from immediately adding the piece to my shopping cart. Read on for a reminder of what Meghan's Trooping the Colour outfit looked like, and shop the Zara creation before everyone starts wearing it.

So when Gigi stepped out wearing some of the coolest red sock-boots we'd ever seen, we of course immediately decided that we also needed a pair.
Gigi rocked her retro booties with cropped mom jeans by Tommy Hilfiger, a laid-back Wrangler t-shirt, and brown v-neck sweater. She finished off her look with a red Versace Icon tote bag ($2,675), white-brimmed sunglasses, and her Zayn necklace, making for the perfect transitional outfit. Read on to get a closer look at Gigi's stylish ensemble, then shop similar red booties for yourself.
Does Having Acne Impact Your Job Prospects? The Answer Might Surprise You
Much to the dismay of anyone with atychiphobia, the truth about job hunting remains: in interviews, like in life, there are only so many things you can control. Even when you've fine-tuned your résumé, researched the company, and concocted a decidedly thoughtful response to the wild card "What kind of animal would you be?" question, sometimes there are other, far less obvious factors playing into your odds of getting hired - like the condition of your skin.
It isn't always conscious, but for some interviewers, the bias is real. Studies have shown that people with facial acne are discriminated against in the job market, with one survey revealing that 78 percent of respondents thought people with blemishes or acne scars were less likely to be hired based on their appearance.
"We live in a society that socializes us to have certain stereotypes that might exist outside of our conscious awareness," said Alison Green, an ex-hiring manager and columnist for the popular career blog Ask a Manager. "These biases can be about race, gender, age, religion, disability, socioeconomic class, physical attractiveness - all sorts of things."
"Whether consciously or unconsciously, we assume that attractiveness is associated with competence, even though we know that it's not true."
From a legal standpoint, no federal law has been passed to protect people based on their appearances, at least not without the evidence of a disability. But that last part - a bias based on someone's physical attractiveness - has been widely researched.
"Whether consciously or unconsciously, we assume that attractiveness is associated with competence, even though we know that it's not true," said Matthew Traube, MFT, a psychotherapist who specializes in the psychological impact of skin conditions. "I have had clients tell me that they felt that they would have gotten a job if they did not have acne."
In some cases, this bias can vary depending on the actual open position; Green notes that more managers will put weight on a candidate's appearance if the job is a client-facing one. "They'll often frame it as looking for candidates who are 'well-groomed and polished,' but in practice that's sometimes more about a particular physical look than it is about polish," she said. "And to be clear, employers should recognize that you can have acne and still be well-groomed and polished."
As for the reason behind the bias, Traube theorizes it could be due to the misguided perception that acneic skin is a result of poor hygiene - an association that, again, the interviewer might only be partly aware of. Dr. Josie Howard, MD, a psychodermatologist and expert for Abreva, agrees: "Blemishes, cold sores, and even psoriasis and eczema are often seen as a source of contagion. Society can have a negative perception of blemishes, especially on the face, even when the condition is common."
In an ideal world, all employers will have trained hiring managers on how to identify, and then guard against, every type of unconscious bias. Still, acne bias can also be self-inflicted. Going into an interview already worried that others will think less of you because of your skin, Traube says, could then negatively affect your performance.
"People become acutely aware of any visible blemishes, and their self-consciousness is intensified."
"Having any visible skin condition - especially one that is on the face, like acne or a cold sore - can have a profound impact on self-esteem," Dr. Howard said. "By definition, job interviews are a time where you are presenting yourself to be evaluated and trying to put your best face forward, so to speak. People become acutely aware of any visible blemishes, and their self-consciousness is intensified - taking their mental and emotional focus off the content of the interview and interpersonal interactions and onto worrying about their skin and appearance."
To make matters worse, if you're prone to hormonal breakouts, the stress that comes with prepping for an interview could also trigger flare-ups. "For skin conditions that are exacerbated by anxiety, this can become a vicious cycle," Dr. Howard said. "Stress can impair the immune system and in turn make you more vulnerable to acne. Then, the stress of a visible outbreak increases stress, further worsening the blemish."
When you feel stress acne coming on, the most important course of action is to stick to your normal skin-care routine. Don't add an extra step or spend too much time in front of a magnifying mirror - that only makes it worse, she says. Keeping a fast-acting spot treatment or hydrocolloid bandage in your purse can give you peace of mind. More importantly, though, wear your confidence as if it were included with purchase of your Cole Haan loafers.
"The single most important factor is presenting yourself as comfortable in your skin," said Dr. Howard. "You might have a visible blemish, but focusing your attention on your excitement about the job will quickly shift your interviewer's focus as well. As Sophia Loren said, 50 percent of beauty is believing you are beautiful."
Big Mouth Comes Back This Fall, So Prepare For Even More Excruciating Adolescent Flashbacks
Stock up on pimple cream and schedule a few extra sessions with your therapist, because Big Mouth is returning for season two this Fall. The critically acclaimed and deeply inappropriate animated Netflix series is a raunchy, hilarious look at growing up, exploring embarrassing scrapes with puberty, body image, hormones, self discovery, and more. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, make sure to mark Oct. 5 on your calendar.
The second season will again feature the voices of co-creator Nick Kroll, as well as John Mulaney, Maya Rudolph, Jason Mantzoukas, Jordan Peele, Fred Armisen, Jenny Slate, and Jessi Klein. New cast members include Gina Rodriguez, playing the first girl in seventh grade to get boobs, while David Thewlis is playing The Shame Wizard, who is the Hormone Monster's mortal enemy "who haunts the kids by stoking their deepest shame." Bring on the cringe!

If You're Trying to Lose Weight, You Should Probably Stay Away From These Fruits
Fruit is probably one of nature's best snacks: it's portable, it's tasty, it's full of fiber and essential micronutrients, and there are so many options to choose from. However, fruit is still high in fructose, and while it's natural sugar, it can still add up if you are trying to lose weight. We are by no means advocating that you should give up fruit entirely if you are trying to lose weight. Rather, it's important to pay attention to serving sizes and how much fruit you're actually eating; if you're making smoothies in the morning and throwing in a whole banana, a handful of berries, and a date, it can quickly add up.
"I definitely recommend that people who are trying to lose weight be mindful of portions and preparation of fruit," Eliza Savage, RD, dietitian at Middleburg Nutrition in New York City, told POPSUGAR. "An appropriate serving would be one handheld fruit (think: one apple, one peach), one cup of cut fruit (melon, pineapple), or 15 to 17 grapes or cherries." Additionally, a serving of a banana is usually half of a large or medium banana.
Still, if you're looking to cut back on sugars to lose weight, here are some of the fruits you might want to limit or stay away from, according to dietitians. Instead of these fruits mentioned, many dietitians we spoke to recommended low-sugar berries such as raspberries and blueberries and fiber-rich apples.
An Expert's Guide to Intermittent Fasting For Beginners
There are a lot of diet options out there, but don't despair if you haven't found the right one for your lifestyle. Instead, consider giving intermittent fasting a try. I get it - if you're anything like me, the mere mention of fasting may send you running in the opposite direction, but I quickly turned around when I learned that intermittent fasting isn't synonymous with going hungry. Instead, the practice involves shifting when you consume your calories.
"The goal of intermittent fasting is not to decrease calories," says Sunny Brigham, MS, CNS. "You should still consume the same amount of calories, just in a smaller period of time throughout the day. Many people do it wrong by reducing calories while fasting."
Ready to get started? We've got you covered. Here's how to incorporate intermittent fasting into your lifestyle.

What's on My Plate Is Actually None of Your Business
Have you ever heard of a pescetarian? If your answer is yes, I congratulate you for being smarter than Microsoft Word. As I write this story, the term is being underlined in red by the word processing program because it doesn't recognize it. While I'm still reflecting on whether I should feel offended by this fact, I'll let the Merriam-Webster dictionary clarify that a pescetarian is one whose diet includes fish but no other meat. Pretty simple, isn't it? But try explaining to Word (and many people) that I am also gluten free and try to avoid dairy products. What does that make me? Only God knows! But what I do know is that these food choices very often result in questions from family, friends, and colleagues ranging from funny to pretty annoying.
Does it really matter whether I dropped meat from my diet because of ethical reasons or a taste preference? Why do you want to know if I am lactose intolerant? Think about it: the motivations for eating and not eating certain foods might be quite personal and involve religion or medical conditions. Why should anyone share this private information with you?
As for myself, I am more than happy to tell you (and my mum, for yet another time) that I made these changes to my diet because I want to be the best and healthiest version of myself. And I realized that the food I put into my body has a huge impact on it. I could instead go on for hours about how I feel more energized, lighter, and less bloated. But the gist is as simple as it is powerful: not eating certain foods makes me feel better and happy!
No, this is not about wanting to be skinny. And for the record, I can still join you at a fast food restaurant. You might be surprised, but I am usually able to find some kind of food that fits my dietary requirements anywhere. Just don't hate on me - or your family member, friend, or colleague - if you see us with a plate of greens without dressing in front of us. That's probably because that's all they've got on the menu for us. Trust me, we'd much rather have something like a gluten-free veggie burger if we could.
And that's actually the point: we could! We had the option and we chose to sit down with you and keep you company at that fast food restaurant. So don't make fun of us or food-shame us. Don't question what's on our plate. In turn, we won't lecture you about how unhealthy that dish you just shoveled into your mouth just was. Because we respect you and your food choices, and so should you respect us. Because no matter what we eat (or do not eat) because of religious belief, for ethical reasons, because of a taste preference, or for the sake of trying to be healthy: it is supposed to make us happy and feel better. And that's all that should matter to you.
Get Ready to Drop the Pounds With This Keto Diet Meal Plan
The keto diet is a diet that is high in fat and low in carbs. It's used to manage type 2 diabetes but is commonly followed to aid in weight loss. Nutrition scientist Catherine Metzgar, PhD, RD, who is on the clinical team at Virta Health, created an exclusive keto meal plan for POPSUGAR.
The daily protein target is set at 14 ounces (determined by our demographic, which is women 18-35). You'll find that serving sizes have been included for all proteins except eggs, because they're generally one ounce per egg. Catherine advised eating five servings of nonstarchy vegetables to help achieve nutritional ketosis.
Disclaimer: Consult a doctor before making any dietary changes. If you are on antihypertensive/blood glucose lowering medications, please seek medical supervision before beginning this meal plan.

Princess Beatrice's Shoe Closet Is Better Than Meghan Markle's - and I'm Not Saying This Lightly
Princess Beatrice might hang out with Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, but her style is on a whole other level. While the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex have to follow a few strict fashion rules, Beatrice is free to wear shorter hemlines and wilder prints - but it's her always stylish and sometimes funky shoes that I love the most.
Over the years, Princess Beatrice has worn every style of shoe imaginable - from the most simple black pumps to rainbow flats and copper heels - and I'd give anything to be allowed to take a closer peek at her collection. (Beatrice, if you're reading this, call me.) While this might not be possible, I have the next best thing: photographic evidence of all her best shoe moments. Read on to see them all, and shop similar pairs to get on her royal level.
Gigi Hadid Is Wearing the Jeans Mary-Kate and Ashley Made Cool in 2002
Are they back? Could they be!? These are the thoughts that ran through my head when Gigi Hadid stepped out in NYC wearing the distressed flares of my 2002 dreams. They have little snippets at the ankle, all to better show off her chunky platforms and that signature fade at the hem any girl would recognize from Limited Too's archives. These jeans, designed by Trave, are slightly low-slung, and, when worn with a micro top like Gigi's, they are the focal point of the outfit.
Personally, I became obsessed with them while watching Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in Holiday in the Sun as they climbed aboard the private yacht in the last scene to find "the evidence," their dark-wash bell bottoms trailing all the while. MK and A also wore similar styles in Getting There, which was released in 2002, even trying out the same silhouette in corduroy. But you can't bring up such denim without referencing Britney Spears, who owned her fair share in the exact same cut.
I don't know about you, but I plan to fully embrace this resurgence, and Gigi and I aren't alone. Victoria Beckham must've had an inkling and rocked a pair with a white tee during Fashion Week in 2017 and CR Fashion Book editor Carine Roitfeld recently shared her own roughed-up iteration on Instagram. Even Kylie Jenner is a fan! Scroll to backtrack on these jeans you so obviously need for Fall 2018, then shop some of our favorite picks that are beginning to hit the market.
Grey's Anatomy Scoop: "There's a Lot Happening" in the Season 15 Premiere
Aug. 28 marked Variety's Power of Young Hollywood Event sponsored by H&M in LA, and among the attendees was fresh Grey's Anatomy addition Alex Blue Davis. Davis joined the show in season 14 as one of the hapless new interns who gets thrown into the hurricane of drama at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. He already broke ground with an incredible transgender storyline, and now it's time to see what the upcoming season might hold. I was able to snag Davis for a handful of questions on Variety's buzzing red carpet, and I seized the opportunity to get any and every possible detail about what may lay ahead on ABC's veteran doctor drama.
First things first: I had to ask how work was going on the upcoming 15th season. "I've shot two episodes," Davis confirmed with a smile. When I asked if he could tell me anything about the two-hour premiere, which is sure to pack a wallop, he offered a surprising answer. "It's funny. I really think it's really funny. We were laughing at the table read a lot. There's a lot happening." A lot happening, huh? Sounds like we should be gearing up for a little drama in addition to the handfuls of laughs. That shouldn't come as a surprise, with Teddy's return and a new doctor already on the books.
When I asked what Davis would like to see for Casey and the rest of the new interns in the upcoming episodes, he definitely hoped the season's theme - it's been dubbed the "season of love" - would affect his character. "I'd love to see him get into a relationship where he's happy and he stays in it a long time." This is pretty atypical for a Grey's intern, so I noted that most of the time the newbies are all tied up in drama and hookups and other such emotional disasters. "It would be fun, it might be cute," he replied, in reference to hooking up and being a bit messy, "but I think as far as [Casey] goes, he just kind of laughs at drama. So, I don't see it happening for him." As a sort of hint, he offered this with a wink: "He might be helping the other people with their drama, which is also fun."
Grey's Anatomy's landmark 15th season premieres on Sept. 27.
All Aboard! Jude Law and Eddie Redmayne Surprised Fans at King's Cross Station
The start of September often signals the beginning of a new school year, and for the students of Hogwarts, it means a trip to King's Cross Station to board the Hogwarts Express. While the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry may be (sadly) fictional, the stars of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald are very real and made a special appearance at the London train station to surprise fans.
Jude Law and Eddie Redmayne, aka Professor Albus Dumbledore and Newt Scamander, showed up to Platform 9¾ on Sept. 1 for "Back to Hogwarts" day, to the delight of Muggles and wizards alike. After a round of photos with fans, the two led the countdown for the 11 a.m. departure of the Hogwarts Express. Check out more photos and videos from the magical morning below, and take a peek at these Easter eggs from the screenplay . . . if you dare.

The Sneaky Way Halloween Is Ruining Your Skin - and What To Do About It
Halloween is all fun and games until someone dressed as Pennywise drinks too much zombie gut punch and trips over the cauldron of Kit Kats. But besides the next-day regret that's often fueled by fuzzy memories and a few unknown bruises, you can also blame your splotchy, dry, hungover skin on the a-a-a-a-alcohol.
"Drinking alcohol dehydrates the body and skin, which can make you look puffy and bloated," said dermatologist Debra Jaliman, MD. "It also creates a histamine reaction, because it causes the facial blood vessels to dilate, causing redness and flushing." (Oh, and then there's this part that dermatologist Josh Zeichner, MD, pointed out: "Some data suggest that alcohol lowers the skin's antioxidant defenses, meaning it cannot protect itself from the environment as well as it should.")
That's the bad news. The good news is that not all spooky cocktails are created equal, nor do they have the same effect on your face. So when the only way to survive a night filled with candy-hyped children in princess costumes is with an adult beverage, we're breaking down the scary-good products that do a little damage control.

Almost.
