I Tried a Jonathan Van Ness-Inspired Hair Routine, and Hunny, I Can't Believe
Last year, I went from brunette to blond, and it was cute, but then I got a big case of CBB (aka "can't be bothered") when it came to my hair. Blond just didn't look as healthy on me as brown, and - shock, horror - you actually have to work at it. Currently, my hair is flat and lifeless, and I may have slept on it wet on more than one occasion. It is well looked after, though, through weekly masking, blow-drying only once every few months, and oil treatments.
Needing a little inspiration for my hair reboot, I came across some tips in Cosmopolitan from the one and only grooming queen - Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness - and decided to spend a week giving my hair the love it deserves. Spoiler alert: the end result looked cute AF. Here's how I did it:
The first plan of action was to ditch any products that contained sulfates or parabens. If you're a keen Queer Eye viewer, you'll know these are bad news, according to Van Ness. (My boyfriend actually told me he opted for sulfate-free shampoo after watching the show too, so he really is starting a movement.) My new regimen involved washing with Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo ($36), conditioning with Ouai Repair Conditioner ($26), treating with Ouai Hair Oil ($28), and finishing with Bumble and Bumble Prep It ($25). Van Ness talked up most of these treatments on the show, so I was confident it would work. I also slept on a silk pillowcase per his advice, even though I've already been doing that for months now. I find that it really does help minimize frizz. Finally, I didn't wash my hair every other day, as normal; I only washed it twice that week, on Van Ness's orders.
My hair is now living its textured (that's a bit of a push), smooth, conditioned, healthy truth. I learned, like Van Ness says, that my hair doesn't need to be washed as much as I was washing it. Even after a sweaty yoga session, I needed to shower, but my hair wasn't bad at all. Actually, having it a little on the greasier side made it easier to style.
After a week of living that Queer Eye life, I'll continue to use a conditioning shampoo and all the Ouai products (the smell alone is worth it), and I won't wash it so frequently. Oh, and maybe one day I'll learn how to use a round brush on myself.
Jonathan Van Ness, hunny, thanks for making the world - and my hair - a happier place.

The Moments When People Knew They'd Found Someone Worth the Risk
Sometimes in life, you just connect with someone on a different, unique level, and you just know that relationship is worth pursuing, no matter what. Still, sometimes the situation is challenging, and it seems risky to see what could happen. Perhaps you live in different places, or the love interest is moving in a matter of months. Or maybe there's a disagreement in terms of religion, long-term goals, or visions for the future. Maybe someone has a health condition that could cause strain in the relationship.
No matter the obstacle, and these will differ based on the individual and what the "dealbreakers" might be, there comes a time when you just don't care, when you know there's something really good between you that needs to be explored. It's a matter of thinking with your heart over your head. Here, real people share the moments they found someone worth taking a risk for.
Sexual Traits You Might Have Based On Your Zodiac Sign
"What's your zodiac sign?" might not be the first question you ask before getting into bed with someone, but there's a reason you might want to get the details before hitting those sheets.
Turns out, the stars might be onto something when it comes to your love interests, as it's safe to say sexual chemistry is a pretty important part of a relationship. And there are certain sexual traits and strengths you might have in the bedroom that can either turn your partner on or off, depending on his or her sign.
Of course, this isn't to say that if you're a Sagittarius you shouldn't immediately turn away from a Cancer. But be warned, you might naturally have steamier sex with an Aries, Gemini, Leo, or Aquarius.
Still, no matter which sign you do choose to "woo," taking a peek into your partner's sexual tendencies can help you better understand likes and dislikes and how best to be in sync. So, what to expect? We chatted with astrologer Valerie Mesa for a few tips. Hopefully, not only will sex be more enjoyable, but also that passion will carry over into other areas of the relationship to create greater intimacy and trust.
This Romantic Destination Wedding Will Fuel Your Wanderlust
There is something so spontaneous and fun about a destination wedding; guests can relax and soak in the romantic atmosphere, and the bride and groom can share a special trip with their closest loved ones. So, it's no surprise that couple Lauren and Evan's Mexican retreat wedding felt both intimate and relaxed. As the sun set over the Pacific, Lauren and Evan said "I do" in a sweet ceremony that was bursting with fun and color.
The duo planned an elegant destination wedding at Hotel Villas Carrizalillo in Oaxaca, Mexico, and celebrated their big day surrounded by their close family and friends. The bride walked down the aisle in a feminine dress and veil while carrying a bouquet of bright flowers that fit in perfectly with the tropical feeling of the location. The wedding itself featured a ukelele solo by friends, and the party afterwards was full of laughs. The couple spent the rest of their vacation surfing, swimming, and relaxing while surrounded by beautiful blooming flowers and the lush landscape around the resort. See all the beautiful photos now!

The Ancient Spanish Monastery in Miami beautifully captured the spirit of their nuptials. Details included "custom skull masks" and "a beautifully elegant black wedding dress," said their photographer Adam Opris.

7 Totally Valid Reasons to Consider Not Having Bridesmaids on Your Big Day
When my now-husband and I were just a recently engaged couple, we started our planning process by hashing out how we'd each describe our ideal wedding day. Words like "laid-back" and "modern" came up a lot (can you tell we're millennials?), and we agreed that we both wanted the experience to be as stress-free as possible. For us, it was clear that the tradition of including bridesmaids and groomsmen wouldn't fit into the picture we envisioned.
Some friends and family were initially surprised by our decision to skip out on having a wedding party, but we look back at it as one of the best choices we made about our day. If you and your partner are also on the fence about having a wedding party, read on for some damn good reasons (if I do say so myself!) to consider going without one.

How to Make Guilt-Free Chicken Wings in an Instant Pot
I've been experimenting with my new Instant Pot, and it's been fun to explore all the different things it can do. When I tried out chicken wings, the meat was so tender - and even though there is the warmup and cooldown period, the actual pressure cook time was only five minutes.
This Instant Pot recipe is so easy, and the wings come out juicy and delicious. Bonus: the recipe I use for the buffalo sauce is adapted from an original Whole30 recipe, so these wings are guilt-free. (If you prefer regular buffalo sauce or store-bought, that will work too.)

What Exactly Is a Rep in Strength Training? A Personal Trainer Explains
In strength training and weightlifting, there's one word that gets mentioned over and over again: rep. It pops up when talking about performing an exercise, putting together a circuit, and completing sets of exercises. But what exactly is a rep?
Rep is short for repetition. "A rep or repetition is one complete motion of exercise," said ACSM-certified personal trainer Jim White, RDN, exercise physiologist and owner of Jim White Fitness and Nutrition Studios. "So if you shoot for eight to 12 reps per set, you are performing the exercise eight to 12 times during the set." For example, if you're doing a biceps curl with a dumbbell, the rep would be one movement of starting with your arm fully extended with your hand down by your leg, then bending your arm (with your elbows acting as a hinge) until your hand reaches up toward your shoulder, then slowly extending back down to the starting position: that's one rep.
A set is the number of reps performed in a row, usually with only a second or two in between. So if your workout calls for three sets of 10 reps, each set will involve 10 movements in a row, then usually a short break (between 45 seconds and two minutes) before starting the next set.
The number of reps and sets you do depends on your fitness level, but a good place to start is with a couple sets of between 10 and 20 reps. Eager to put your strength to the test? Try this 10-move arm workout to tone your upper body.
Work Out at Home With These 10 Bodyweight Moves
If you're looking for a way to tone and shape your body with minimal equipment, body weight exercises are a great way to trim inches and help you lose weight. Using gravity and your body's natural resistance, you can kick up your metabolism by adding muscle in all the right places.
You want to make sure you hit a variety of muscle groups and activate your upper body, lower body, and core throughout the workout for maximum results, mixing some cardio bursts with basic HIIT exercises between strength training to jump start your calorie burn and improve your heart health.
We have rounded up the 10 best body weight exercises you can start practicing at home today.
I'm Always on the Go, and These Are the Products I Keep in My Gym Bag
Whether you prefer a morning, afternoon, or nighttime workout, there are a few staples you always need in your gym bag. As someone who prefers to work out in the morning, I cannot tell you how many times I have forgotten something essential, like makeup or pants (yes, really, one time I forgot my pants). So learn from my mistakes, and make sure you have these items in your gym bag at all costs.
You Can Increase Your Wrist Strength With These 5 Exercises
Our wrists are key joints, particularly when it comes to some of our favorite fitness moves: burpees, push-ups, planks, mountain climbers, pull-ups, Downward-Facing Dogs, and many more. Where we concentrate on the muscle groups they support, such as the arms and shoulders, we often neglect the wrists themselves. It is easy to feel wrist strain if we don't give them the same amount of attention the rest of our body gets. The good news is that wrist strengthening is relatively simple - the hardest part is remembering to do it. Get started with these five exercises and make sure to add them into your routine once a week.

I Discovered This Organization Hack by Accident, but I Can't Recommend It Enough
It all started by accident. I was given a large wallet for my birthday, but I prefer small bags, and my new wallet didn't fit. So I invested in a little card case that could live in my going-out crossbody bags. Then I got lazy. My ID and a credit card were already in my card case, and I didn't feel like constantly transferring them back and forth. I only take one credit card when I go out in case something happens or gets lost, and I have a passport card that acts as an alternate form of ID. So basically, I have two fully functional wallets. Each contains at least one credit card and one form of identification.
This system works so well for me, I can't believe I hadn't thought of it sooner. I never worry about losing my wallet anymore, because I know that if I do, I have another one ready to go. This all came to fruition a couple of weeks ago, when I was traveling. I left my card case at a friend's house and wouldn't be able to get it for a week. Instead of panicking, I remained calm because I knew that I had my big wallet at home and could use that until I was able to retrieve my card case. Seriously, if you want to be prepared and save yourself a boatload of stress, invest in two wallets. Just keep reading to shop both big and small wallet options.

Wedding Planning Experts Say This Is When to Arrive at a Wedding
Wedding experts seem to agree: arriving to a wedding 15 to 30 minutes before the start time stated on the invitation is proper form. Any earlier and you might get in the way; any later and you risk missing the ceremony or worse.
Anne Chertoff, a trend expert from WeddingWire, says 15 minutes prior to the start time is ample unless it's a big wedding. "You may want to arrive 30 minutes before to ensure seats together and in a good spot." Of course, sometimes forces beyond control prevent guests from arriving on time, and you probably have a slight cushion. Jessica Garda, a wedding planner from Pittsburgh, says, "You can't always predict weather, traffic, etc. So I definitely advise couples getting married to plan on starting their ceremony about 15 minutes after the time printed on the invitation, just in case."
Should you arrive late, find a seat quietly in the back so as not to disturb the ceremony. Believe it or not, arriving too early to a wedding can also cause a disturbance. Brett Galley of Hollywood Pop, who has worked with celebrities like Bon Jovi, Diana Ross, and Tony Bennett, cautions against exploring the venue while vendors are still setting up. He also recommends not seeking out the wedding couple. "[They are] most likely busy getting ready, taking photos, and going through prewedding rituals, such as signing the ketubah. Wait outside until the venue is open for guests to be seated."
The bottom line: don't expect everything to go smoothly en route to the venue. Krista Ostrander, wedding specialist at The Reeds at Shelter Haven in Stone Harbor, NJ, says, "It's important to have time to navigate parking and the layout of the property." She suggests allowing a few extra minutes to also feel settled before the ceremony.
When traffic or weather prevents you from being on time, Garda offers this advice: "If [you] are able to let someone know, great. But DO NOT call or text the bride or groom. They have enough to worry about that day."

3 Signs Your Child Might Have Anxiety
All parents can agree that they only want the best for their children. They want them to be healthy, strong, curious, and a million other positive attributes. But what do you do as a caretaker when you suspect your child might be having irrational reactions and responses to daily life . . . when you think they might be experiencing anxiety. And not just "normal" amounts of anxiety (say some jitters leading up to back-to-school season), but enough that it's started to get your attention and make you question whether or not it's time to see a therapist or child psychologist. Since it can be challenging for most people - let alone a child - to describe what it feels like to have anxious thoughts, we reached out to Dr. Kirsten Cullen Sharma, a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist based in New York for some guidance.
"Anxiety is clinical condition, so in order to have an anxiety disorder a child must meet criteria for clinical significance," Sharma explained. "In these cases, anxiety impairs a child's normal (or would-be normal) functioning on a daily bases."
While there are a number of behaviors associated with anxiety, here are three big signs Sharma said you can look for that might indicate your child has anxiety.

How Do You Calculate Net Carbs? This Formula Breaks It Down
Whether you're following the keto diet or just want to eat low-carb for weight loss, you are probably all too familiar with counting your carbs and staying within a certain threshold for the day. But what about net carbs? Usually reserved for people who are diabetic, net carbs can actually be helpful if you want to know how the food you eat will impact your blood sugar.
The most basic way to calculate net carbs is by subtracting the dietary fiber from the overall carbs. (Net Carbs = Total Carbs - Dietary Fiber.) For example, an apple has 25 grams of carbs and four grams of dietary fiber, which means a apple has around 21 net carbs. Another way to calculate net carbs is by subtracting the fiber and sugar alcohols from total carbohydrates (Net Carbs = Total Carbs - Dietary Fiber - Sugar Alcohols); a Quest Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough protein bar has 21 grams of carbs, 14 grams of fiber, and three grams of erythritol, so it has just four grams of net carbs. The problem with this is many foods don't list the amount of sugar alcohols on the nutrition label.
Since fiber isn't fully digested by your body, proponents of counting net carbs say it's a more accurate way of determining how food will affect your blood sugar. A high-fiber food, such as black beans, won't spike your blood sugar as much as a food made of more simple carbs, such as a slice of white bread. However, net carbs is not a term recognized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
While some diets, such as the Atkins diet, rely on calculating net carbs as part of the program, it's not typically advised for the keto diet. If you think counting net carbs would be helpful for you, be sure to speak to a registered dietitian or your doctor about it. Otherwise, it's best to stick to counting total carbs as part of your macros or calorie counting and staying within your daily target.
12 Things I Really Wish I Knew Before Running My First Marathon
A little over a year ago, I ran my first ever marathon. Prior to that, I had completed four half marathons, and I felt like I had become too comfortable with that distance. Sure, 13.1 miles is still a challenge - I'm not crazy - but it wasn't a new challenge. I wanted more.
I remember being 16 years old and watching my mom train for her first marathon. She had just turned 40 and wanted to accomplish something huge (in addition to all the other amazing things she had already done). She would be gone for hours every Saturday morning, come home exhausted but victorious, and groan her way into an ice bath. I admired her hard work, and simultaneously thought she was completely nuts. When I saw her cross the finish line that Fall, limping and teary and so incredibly proud, I knew I had to feel that feeling.
Fast-forward more than a few years, I found myself signing up for my first marathon (with my mom and brother, of course). We ran our weekday runs alone and met up just about every weekend for our long runs. The training was grueling, and more often than not, I'd find myself hobbling around for a day or two after my long run. There's definitely a certain level of crazy required to run 26.2 miles for fun.
After five months of training, the day was here. The weather was perfect, my playlist was set, and we had awesome custom tank tops. We ran and completed the California International Marathon. I didn't score an impressive time, but I finished, but not without some surprises. Here's what I learned along the way and wish I would have known before.

Gigi and Bella Hadid Have 1 Tip For Wearing a Blouse: Loosen Up Those Buttons, Baby
Gigi and Bella Hadid talk - duh, they're sisters. But they must've talked clothes before heading to the US Open. Both ladies showed up in deconstructed button-downs, Bella opting for a white Acler dress that she completed with ankle socks, Adidas sneakers, gold hoops, and a camo Dior bag, and Gigi in a Vivienne Westwood menswear top ($467) with stripes.
Gigi, who is making her opinion on biker shorts clear (she seems to love 'em), finished her outfit with a white pair, Dear Frances plaid slides ($295), and delicate jewelry, including her "Zayn" charm and custom BaubleBar earrings.
The commonality between these Hadid looks was the fabric pulled off the shoulder, all in the name of revealing a sexy slip of skin at Summer's end. If you, too, like the idea of loosening up your buttons, we found some designs that make that quite easy. Scroll to get inspired by Gigi and Bella, then shop.

We've Never Laid Eyes on Boots Quite Like Kendall Jenner's, That's For Damn Sure
We've seen Kendall Jenner wearing a minidress plenty of times, but we love when she switches things up. For the launch of Russell James's book Angels, Kendall found a new way to call attention to her leggy frame. She wore a chic Alexandre Vauthier black stain blazer dress that featured exaggerated shoulders. Kendall cinched in her waist by styling the mini with a light pink belt.
Since the blazer was super short, she styled a pair of black biker shorts underneath. While Kendall's outfit was sexy, it was her what was on her feet that truly caught our attention. Kendall paired her formal look with a pair of slouchy boots that were very interesting, to say the least. The knee-high boots came with green pointed tips. Read on to see all angles of Kendall's full ensemble ahead.
