If You've Hit a Weight-Loss Plateau, This Could Be Why
So you're hitting the gym every day, tracking your food, and getting plenty of sleep, but the scale still won't budge - what gives? If you have been losing weight steadily but suddenly find the scale stuck at a standstill, you could be in a weight-loss plateau.
As personal trainer and fitness coach Sam Frohlich (@sam_xceedfit) explained in an Instagram post, there could be several reasons you are stuck:
- You dropped calories too quickly or by too much: Although eating in a calorie deficit is important, if you eat too few calories or drop too quickly, it could slow down your metabolism and backfire.
- You haven't changed your training plan: It's important to find activity you like, but if you don't mix it up, your body will become complacent.
- You don't count sneaky calories: Every handful of M&M's, teaspoon of nut butter, and bite of your partner's food adds up.
- You've become content: If you started your weight-loss journey with tons of energy and enthusiasm but find yourself slacking off, it could impede your progress.
Sam said to "basically do the opposite of the things in this infographic." Be mindful of everything you eat, and track every single bite. You should still be within your daily calorie target (to find out what that should be for weight loss, use this formula). If you mostly do cardio for workouts, incorporate strength training. And if you have lost your weight-loss mojo, here are some tips to stay motivated.

The Bodyweight Exercise You Should Be Doing For Stronger Legs and Better Stability
One key to strength training and building muscle is to make sure your muscles are being challenged. If you never change the stimuli (weight, reps, sets, exercises), your muscles will adapt and eventually stop growing and getting stronger. Because our glutes are the biggest muscle group in our body (our quadriceps and hamstrings also top that list), it's important to have an arsenal of ways to work them.
Squats are great for improving your lower-body strength, and one of my favorite variations is the pistol squat. It's a unilateral exercise (a single-leg movement) that will help strengthen both sides of your body equally (goodbye, imbalances), and it will improve your strength and stability.
How to Do a TRX Pistol Squat
- Start facing the anchor point with the straps at midlength and your hands on the handles.
- Step back so there's no slack on the suspension trainer.
- With your feet about hips-width apart, lift your right leg off the ground.
- With your arms fully extended and tension on the suspension trainer, lower down into a squat. Be sure to keep your weight shifted back on your heels while maintaining a neutral spine. Your arms should be extended throughout the entire movement.
- Drive your left heel through the ground as you come into a standing position. There should be a slight bend at your left knee. Be sure not to pull yourself up with your arms. Instead, push yourself up with your leg. This completes one rep.
- Complete three sets of eight to 10 reps on each leg.
Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet's PDA on the "Blue" Carpet Proves They're Wild About Each Other
Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are crazy in love, and if you have any doubt, just check out their pictures from the Aquaman premiere. The couple made a joint appearance in Hollywood to walk the "blue" carpet on Dec. 12, and they couldn't keep their hands off of each other. They traded kisses and cuddled up like no one was watching - a true sign that they're still head over heels.
Lisa wasn't the only one to show support to Jason on premiere day. Their kids, 11-year-old Lola and 9-year-old Nokoa-Wolf, tagged along and Jason's mom Connie Momoa made an appearance. Lola and Nokoa-Wolf also joined their dad in an intense haka. Looks like being a badass runs in the family!
Jason and Lisa met back in 2005, but didn't actually tie the knot until November 2017. In addition to Lola and Nokoa-Wolf, they're also parents to Zoë Kravitz, Lisa's daughter from her marriage with Lenny Kravitz. This blended family is well-known for keeping things friendly and their close bond.
Jason Momoa Did the Haka With His Kids at the Aquaman Premiere, and I May Never Recover
Jason Momoa's at it again, folks. You might like to think you've sufficiently recovered from his Saturday Night Live striptease, and nothing can phase you anymore, but you'd better sit down for this. The 39-year-old actor kicked off the Aquaman Hollywood premiere on Dec. 12 with an intense haka performance with members of the cast, and his kids chanted right alongside him.
Jason's no stranger to the traditional Maori haka. He took part in a chant with a group of shirtless fighters (mhmm, you read that right) while filming Aquaman in New Zealand, and even used the haka as part of his Game of Thrones audition. This performance was extra special, however, because his 11-year-old daughter Lola and 9-year-old son Nakoa-Wolf joined in, as his wife Lisa Bonet cheered them on from the side. Well that, and he broke his trident clean in half when the haka began. Watch the full chant in all its glory above, and then keep reading to catch it from different angles - if you dare. I recommend keeping smelling salts and something soft to land on nearby, just in case.

Amy Poehler Is Fully on Board With a Parks and Rec Reboot - She Even Has Blazers Ready!
It's been three years since we tearfully bid adieu to Parks and Recreation, and we've pretty much been pining for a reboot ever since the emotional series finale aired. As it turns out, dedicated fans aren't the only ones on board with the idea of reuniting Pawnee's finest - leading lady Amy Poehler is, too. "I'm technically available," Poehler said at the 10th anniversary celebration dinner of Smart Girls, the organization she founded. "I have like six of Leslie's blazers in my closet, so anytime."
From 2009 to 2015, Poehler played the role of Leslie Knope, the competitive deputy director of the Pawnee Parks and Recreation Department, a proud waffle-lover, and an even prouder feminist. When the NBC sitcom ended, there were hints that Leslie would go on to become president. While addressing the possibility of a reunion, Poehler said she hadn't given much thought to Leslie's storyline, adding that maybe she'd be "president of the moon."
Of course, a reboot wouldn't be viable without a little help from the show's co-creator, Mike Schur, who's currently tied up with another popular show. "Our king is busy doing his highly successful show, The Good Place," Poehler explained. "We really can't jump without Mike. So when Mike is good and ready, I'm sure we'll show up like good soldiers."
This isn't the first time stars from the NBC comedy have teased the likelihood of a reunion. Back in May, Nick Offerman and Poehler stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show and said that it could happen "any time," joking that Beyoncé would have to play the mayor of Pawnee in order for the series to make a comeback. Hah, if only! In all seriousness, we need Leslie now more than ever, so NBC, what are you waiting for?!
Luke Evans Hits the Beach in a Tiny Speedo, and Pardon Us, We Just Need a Minute
Luke Evans is finally getting the R&R he deserves! The 39-year-old actor has been busy filming his new project Midway, and he recently took a break to escape to Tulum, Mexico, with his friends. On Sunday, Luke showed off his muscular body when he hit the beach in a tiny black Speedo with the word "ICON" written on the back. With his perfectly chiseled abs and strong pecs, "ICON" is definitely right.
Luke is set to play Lieutenant Commander Wade McClusky in the World War II action movie, which also stars Nick Jonas, Woody Harrelson, and Mandy Moore. The film is based on the true story of the Battle of Midway and hits theaters next year.
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez Totally Took Our Breath Away at the Second Act Premiere
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez had the date night of our dreams on Wednesday at the premiere of her new movie, Second Act, in New York City. The romantic comedy, which Jennifer produced and starred in, focuses on a woman who finds herself in a private finance firm despite her lack of a résumé. Jennifer added her own special touch to the cast and picked her real-life BFF, Leah Remini, to costar alongside her and Milo Ventimiglia to play her husband.
Jennifer and ARod arrived hand in hand to the red carpet, and she stole the show in a dramatic hot-pink gown. The powerhouse couple have been together for over a year now and are frequently seen supporting each other's projects. Whether Jennifer's hyping up Alex on Instagram or he's watching her kickass dance moves, these two always look crazy in love. Keep reading to see more snaps of their glam night out.
What Is the Best Show of 2018? Vote For Your Favorite
When it comes to TV, 2018 has had everything: steamy romances, captivating drama, and shocking twists that left us gasping for breath. When it comes to naming the best of the best, we feel it's only right to leave the decision up to you. Did all the mysteries on Westworld keep you up at night, or was it the heart-pounding series finale of The Americans that raised your blood pressure? Maybe Claire and Jamie's sweeping romance in Outlander is your favorite? Then again, you might be more of a This Is Us fan. We've compiled a list of all the best shows on TV this year for you to vote for, so get to it ahead!
Note: You can vote for your favorite series below by hitting the "up" button. You can vote once per day. The poll will close on Dec. 19 at 11:59 p.m. ET, so cast your vote before then.A Venom Sequel Is Happening, So Start Stocking Up on Snacks (Eyes, Lungs, Pancreas . . .)
Venom arrived in theaters back in October to middling reviews, but that didn't stop talk of all the potential sequels and spinoffs it might spawn.
In an August interview with Total Film, Tom Hardy revealed that Marvel could make up to three Venom movies, saying, "We've signed up for three of them. So it's very much an open case. We'll see what people's responses are to it." Variety also predicted that if the film delivered at the box office, then Sony would move fast to introduce a number of heroes and villains from the Spider-Man universe in the form of sequels to the Hardy outing, as well as stand-alone films. At the moment, Sony's licensing pact with Marvel affords it the rights to around 900 characters, so the possibilities are pretty much endless.
Now, in December, we have official confirmation that a Venom sequel is indeed moving forward thanks to the film's co-writer, Jeff Pinkner. While being interviewed by Discussing Film, Pinkner neglected to give away any major spoilers, but did mention that another film in the franchise is in the works. "I can't say anything other than that it is happening," he explained. After noting that he would not be writing the sequel, Pinkner also divulged that the second film will likely see the appearance of Tom Holland's Peter Parker. "Without revealing anything that I'm not supposed to reveal, it is not impossible a future . . .[that] Spider-Man will play a significant role . . . I think it's fair to say that everyone involved would be very excited by a Spider-Man/Venom movie."
You can say that again. At the moment, Sony is already moving forward with plans to make Morbius, a vampire and frequent foe for Spider-Man, with Safe House director Daniel Espinosa at the helm and Jared Leto starring. On top of that, The Equalizer 2's Richard Wenk is writing a screenplay centering on the story of Kraven the Hunter, and the studio is making moves to develop scripts based on the characters of Silk (a Korean-American superheroine), Jackpot (an older, female masked vigilante), and Nightwatch (a doctor-turned-hero with powers of invisibility). There was also a Silver & Black film in the works, which would follow Silver Sable and Black Cat, but Sony has nixed that in favor of breaking each character out into a stand-alone film, starting with Black Cat, aka burglar Felicia Hardy.
Clear Your Schedule, Because These 40+ Titles Are Leaving Netflix in January
Out with the old and in with the new! January is right around the corner, and with the new year comes a ton of new movies and TV shows to enjoy on Netflix. But, that also means that the streaming giant has to clean house to make room, so while we'll be able to watch The Addams Family and American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, we'll have to say goodbye to classics like The Princess Diaries, Rent, and three seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. We still have some time left before these titles are gone from our queues forever, so cancel your plans and check out the full list of movies and TV shows ahead.
Grab Your Super Suit, Because Incredibles 2 Is Coming to Netflix in January
The sequel to 2004's The Incredibles, arrived nearly two decades later - and to much critical acclaim - when it exploded into theaters in June, renewing everyone's love for the heroic Parr family. Now, because apparently Netflix is in a giving mood this holiday season, the spectacular animated film will be available to stream before you know it.
Netflix announced the exciting news via Instagram on Tuesday, noting that Incredibles 2 will arrive on its site on Jan. 30. This is incredible information for a number of reasons - Being able to watch Edna and Jack-Jack's adventures anytime we want? Sign us up! - but it also comes hot on the heels of the news that Netflix will be losing Moana on Dec. 20. A crushing blow to families everywhere, to say the least.
Since Disney is rolling out its own streaming site in 2019, we only have a limited time to watch the studio's films on Netflix, but fortunately, seeing Helen, Bob, Violet, and the rest of the gang take on evil-doers should be enough to ease the pain. Make sure you squeeze in some rewatches while you still can!
It's About That Time, Folks! Vote For Your Favorite CW Couple of 2018

Whether it's the "Gold Standard" West-Allens of The Flash, the Southside-ruling Bughead of Riverdale, or the badass ThunderGrace of Black Lightning, the couples of The CW never fail to give us everything we want and more. Some of them are living out their happy ever afters, others are getting through major bumps in the road, and the rest are trying to save the world before dinnertime. However their love stories play out, there's no doubt these TV couples made their mark this year. So as the year comes to a close, we want to know which OTP tops your list.

Netflix's Upcoming Series About Selena Quintanilla Has Our Hearts Going "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom"
The queen of Tejano music is making her way to Netflix!
The streaming giant has teamed up with the family of Selena Quintanilla to create a series that tells the life story of the music legend. According to the official description, Selena: The Series will be a "coming of age story following Selena as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music." The Quintanilla family have been involved in the project from the get-go and will serve as the series's executive producers.
"Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives," Selena's sister, Suzette Quintanilla, said in a statement. "We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come."
Moisés Zamora, known for his work on Star and American Crime, has been tapped to pen the script and executive produce alongside the Quintanilla family and Campanario Entertainment President Jaime Davila. "Selena and the entire Quintanilla family are an inspiration to many and especially to me, a millennial of the same heritage," Davila said. "[Selena's] achievements are legendary, but our scripted series will focus on the incredible story of a Mexican-American family and how an extraordinary young woman transcended categories and borders to become a global star."
Netflix shared the news on the series's official Twitter page, with a brief teaser that calls out one of Selena's biggest singles, "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom." There's been no cast announcements (though we all know Jennifer Lopez still has the chops for the role) or ideas on a premiere date, but the excitement for the series is palatable.
Quintanilla, who was the first female Tejano artist to win a Grammy in 1994 for best Mexican/American album, sold over 60 million albums worldwide before she died in March 1995. Her fan base and legacy have thrived in the past two decades, with countless tributes in her name, the iconic Lopez-led biopic Selena from 1997, the MAC collection released in October 2016, her Madame Tussauds wax figure reveal in 2017, and her star ceremony on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in late 2017. Obviously this is another win for Selena fans, and we cannot wait to see what this Netflix series will bring!
73 Incredible New Movies and TV Shows Coming to Netflix in January
Don't cry because Netflix is getting rid of a bunch of stuff in December - rejoice that there are a ton of new titles coming your way in January! In addition to Incredibles 2 (which is . . . incredible news, ba dum tss!), the third and final season of A Series of Unfortunate Events is hitting the streaming service. The new year is also bringing a handful of romantic comedies, like Definitely, Maybe, as well as all the films in the Indiana Jones franchise. Take a look, and make sure you catch up on all the new movies from December.
Sound the Alarm! 3 Seasons of Law & Order: SVU Are Leaving Netflix
Netflix giveth, and Netflix taketh away.
In the midst of celebrating all the exciting new additions heading to the streaming giant in January - Incredibles 2, A Series of Unfortunate Events season 3, all the Indiana Jones movies, among others - we came to the startling realization that a ton of episodes of Law & Order: SVU (the best iteration of the NBC procedural, unquestionably) will be disappearing from the TV selection next month. Talk about a bummer, right? It's almost as bad as when Netflix announced Moana would be leaving the site in December . . . almost.
The series - which currently stars Mariska Hargitay and Ice T as Detective Olivia Benson and Sgt. Fin Tutuola, respectively - has been on the air since 1999 and has 20 seasons in total. When the calendar reaches Jan. 1, however, three seasons' worth of episodes will vanish from your queue: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: The Fifteenth Year, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: The Sixteenth Year, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: The Seventeenth Year.
That means that only one season will remain: The Eighteenth Year, which is streaming now. Then again, maybe Netflix will surprise us all and bring back a few old-school seasons that include our dear Elliot Stabler. A binge-lover can dream!
Steve Carell "Serenaded" Ellen With a Christmas Carol, and I'm Rolling on the Floor
Steve Carell is a man of many talents. You may know the 56-year-old actor for his unforgettable comedic timing as The Office's Michael Scott and his dramatic roles in films like Beautiful Boy or Welcome to Marwen, but have you heard his vocal chops? During a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, Steve "serenaded" Ellen with a falsetto version of "O Holy Night" and well . . . just give it a listen.
Steve is an old pro when it comes to the Christmas caroling scene. Growing up in Massachusetts, he would carol in the neighborhood with his older brothers, and as an adult, he and his wife have been confronted by their fair share of holiday singers. When an overenthusiastic party guest stood up to sing a classic carol at a party Steve was attending, it really made an impact. He broke out his own singing skills to give Ellen a full play-by-play, and even taught her how to "scoop" notes.
Ellen was left laughing out loud, but did tell Steve he has a "very pretty" voice. "Only when I scoop it!" he responded. Watch the video above to hear his rendition in all its glory, and also find out why wearing high heels has been his biggest acting challenge to date.
The First-Ever Live-Action Star Wars TV Series Is Coming, and We Have the Intergalactic Dirt
Disney is moving forward with its first-ever live-action Star Wars TV series! (Whew, that's a mouthful.) Behold, The Mandalorian. If the term sounds familiar, it's because the infamous cult character Boba Fett sports Mandalorian armor. He's technically from Kamino, but bounty hunters are closely associated with the planet of Mandalore. Anyway, I digress. This week, Disney announced all kinds of fun details pertaining to the new project, which will drop exclusively on its to-be-released streaming service. The sad news is that we don't have a release date, since the streaming platform itself doesn't even have a locked-in launch. In the meantime, The Mandalorian is in production, and we have plenty of fun tidbits to hold you over.

Google Released Its Annual Year-in-Search Video, and My Tear Ducts Are Already Exhausted
Reflective year-in-review videos make us cry no matter how predictable they are, but what's interesting about Google's newly released Year in Search video is that it demonstrates how unpredictable 2018 really was.
Though it's worth watching in its entirety, the video features many triumphs, including the box-office success and cultural importance of Crazy Rich Asians, the hopeful outcome of the midterm elections, and Cardi B's banner year. There are moments for romance, like that Emmys proposal and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding, and reminders of how just how strange the internet can be. (Remember Yanny vs. Laurel?) Then, of course, there are moments to remember those we've lost, including Stephen Hawking, George H.W. Bush, and Anthony Bourdain. Watch the gracefully packaged video above.

This 1 Hack Completely Saves My Sanity While Traveling With My Kids During the Holidays
Holiday travel is always crazy, but it's especially chaotic and stressful when you have kids. The traffic, the crowded airports, the rest-stops, the long lines, and did I mention the traffic? No matter how you get around during the holiday season, it's usually never entirely pleasant. When I was a kid, it was all about long road trips to visit family. And since I never enjoyed being in the car for long stretches of time, my mom came up with a genius idea to keep me entertained; every hour - if my brothers and I behaved - we would each get one mystery bag with some little activity inside that would hopefully keep us occupied until the next bag, and the next, until finally, we'd arrive at our destination. While I give my mom full credit on this one, I'm far too lazy to make individual bags for each of my kids for every hour we're in the car, so I came up with my own hack to keep them happy: road trip baskets.
The first time I used these [travel] baskets on a six-hour road trip with two kids, it was the easiest trip we'd ever taken.
My family and I mostly travel up and down the East Coast by car, but this one big travel hack could work for planes and trains as well. It keeps my kids occupied, keeps me from hearing the dreaded "Are we there yet?" question a thousand times, and ultimately keeps me sane on the usually dangerous roads full of other holiday travelers. Each child gets one basket, and inside are crafts, books, activities, and snacks to keep them busy for hours. I put them in an easy-to-reach spot and my kids can take out whatever they want whenever they want without having to ask me. The first time I used these baskets on a six-hour road trip with two kids, it was the easiest trip we'd ever taken. Since that trip, I've made countless baskets and am currently working on a few for the upcoming holidays.
I don't love giving my kids a ton of screen time, so plugging them in for a six-hour trip isn't very appealing to me. But there's a definite time and place for kids to lose themselves in a TV show or movie, and a long stretch of traveling is one of them. We use tablets as backups, but they aren't the main focus of the trip. I wait until the right time to pull movies out like when they're overtired or melting down in a traffic jam. But until that happens, their road trip baskets are the focus, and they really do love it.
The first thing I do to create these baskets is think about each child's current interests and what keeps them entertained. I pack some of their favorite books and toys, but also introduce new things to keep them intrigued. Once I've put together in my head what will excite them, I begin collecting things they might like. I shop on Amazon, hit the dollar bins at Target, and scour the Dollar Tree shelves for little trinkets, toys, puzzles, books, and games with not too many pieces that will get lost in car seats. Big hits have included dry erase boards (bonus if it's magnetic), mini action figures, interlocking blocks or beads, interactive books (electronic or pop-up/pull-out pages), magnetic tiles, water paint books, and road trip bingo boards.
We also head to the library before the trip and I let the kids pick out books on CD that they can play on the DVD player and follow along with. Another thing my oldest really enjoys is her very own road trip binder. For this, I bought a three-ring binder with sheet protectors and a few three-ring pencil cases which I loaded up with new crayons and markers. I filled the sheet protectors with pages I printed off the internet or tore from an age-appropriate workbook like mazes, I-Spy pictures, or connect-the-dot pages. Because they can be wiped off, the sheet protectors provide a place for the kids to do a page more than once or erase mistakes. Behind the sheet protector pages, I also put in some blank construction paper and another pencil case filled with stickers, stamps, and fun rolls of tape for them to create whatever they want.
When it comes to traveling with kids, snacks are key, and I always make sure to pack goodies in their baskets. I try to make it a mix of their go-to snacks and some things they aren't usually allowed to have. It's a balance of salty and sweet, so there's always something they're in the mood for and they can't tell me there's nothing they want (well, they could, but spicing up the snack department helps curb the hunger complaints).
The road trip baskets have been a traveling lifesaver for us, and they're so easy to recreate with your own unique spin. It could be a backpack full of things for a long flight or a bag for each child to rummage through on a long train ride. The possibilities are endless, and you can tailor everything to each child. It's also pretty fun keeping everything a surprise until the kids are packed up and ready for travel. If I'm ever worried they'll blow through everything quickly because they're so excited to see all the new things in the basket, I keep a few things in a bag in the front seat with me, because this mom has always got a few tricks up her sleeve.
To the Stranger Who Offered to Help Me on a Flight: You Don't Know How Much It Mattered
It was the first trip we'd taken after losing our pregnancy, and I couldn't handle much. Deep breaths in and out. A smile at my kids. Getting to Disney World and attempting to take in the sights and smells was my only goal. Just get there, I'd repeat to myself. I'd wanted this time away with my family so we could smile again, if only for a few moments here and there. But the trip was bittersweet. From the moment we left, I was already dreading returning home, back to the reality of what had happened. So, when we arrived at the Orlando airport after our time away only to find out our flight was delayed by several hours, you'd think I would have been happy we could stay just a little bit longer. Instead, the unexpected turn of events filled me with anxiety and dread.
I thought often about the lady on the plane. How she couldn't have known what I was going through that night. How she was in the same boat we were. How she could very easily have pretended not to notice my quiet sobs.
I remember sitting on the floor by the ticket counter, staring off into space. Worst case scenarios filled my head. What if we didn't take off that night? What if we couldn't get a hotel room? What if the kids started acting out of control and I couldn't deal with it? Since our loss, I'd been having a tough time getting through the day when everything went right. When things went wrong, I fell apart, and our flight delay was proving to be no exception. Somehow, my husband convinced me to get up from the floor, and I practically sleepwalked to a restaurant so we could eat. Meanwhile, periodic flight updates pinged our phones, and things went from bad to worse. We wouldn't take off until midnight, almost six hours after the planned time. My body practically vibrated with anxiety as I pictured the two-hour drive home with three kids once we landed at the airport at 2:30 a.m.
Entertaining the kids in the terminal for the next five hours was about as challenging as I'd envisioned. When running back and forth got old, they colored, snacked, and ran around again before exhaustion set in. At one point, all of my daughters were crying, and so was I. I felt physically and emotionally drained. Every little incident felt like the biggest problem in the world, from their fights over crayons to their repeated requests to go to the bathroom. Bottom line: I wasn't coping with this delay as well as I usually would under different circumstances.
Once we finally boarded the plane, the kids' whining only escalated. They were so overtired, and who could blame them? I was barely hanging on myself, and my tears were flowing freely now. I cried out of exhaustion and out of grief. I can only imagine what other passengers thought as my kids and I basically sobbed our way to our seats. My husband was doing his best to calm us all down, but it was a bad scene. Mercifully, once the plane took off, at least my little one fell asleep. But I wasn't even trying to keep myself together at this point.
A woman with several tired kids of her own was sitting in the row in front of us, across the aisle. She clearly had plenty to contend with herself, but I noticed her looking back at me every so often with a concerned look on her face. I heard her say something to one of her children about a sweet mama being upset. She finally leaned over and asked gently, "Do you need me to watch your babies?" Babies? My kids aren't babies, was my first thought. I don't know why I wasn't immediately touched by her kind gesture; I guess I felt too overwhelmed to take it in at that moment. I shook my head and went back to being miserable.
It wasn't until later that I realized just how meaningful it was that a total stranger even cared about me. In fact, in the following months, once the fog of my grief dissipated slowly, I thought often about the lady on the plane. How she couldn't have known what I was going through that night. How she was in the same boat we were, with kids up much later than usual, cramped, hungry, tired, and ready to be in their own beds. How she could very easily have pretended not to notice my quiet sobs. How she could have judged me for how poorly I was seemingly handling a simple flight delay. Instead, this stranger showed me compassion, on a plane of all places, where decency goes out the window in far too many situations. This was late at night, when every soul on board our flight had expected to be at home already, not just starting the trip.
I see today it's the kindness of others, both from those I know and those I don't, like that mom on the plane, that have helped me in my recovery from our awful loss. So even though it was a long time ago now, I wish I could thank her for seeing my struggle, for not judging me, for putting her own challenges aside and offering to help me, and most of all, for proving that no matter what you're going through, there's so much good in the world, even at 30,000 feet.
Did Someone Say Drama? Jennifer Lopez's Gown Is a Party in the Front, All Glam in the Back
Jennifer freakin' Lopez. The singer flaunts so many breathtaking looks time and time again, it's almost difficult to keep up. She brought the drama to the red carpet for the premiere of her new movie, Second Act, and chose an eye-catching hot-pink gown for the occasion.
J Lo's tulle dress is giving us vivid flashbacks to not one but two memorable fashion moments from another pop star: Rihanna. It makes sense, since both Rihanna's and J Lo's gowns were designed by Giambattista Valli. J Lo paired her high-low gown with a Jimmy Choo clutch and heels, plus Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Check out her outfit from all angles ahead.

If You're Thinking About a Cheeky Bikini For Your Next Vaca, Iskra Lawrence Found the Perfect 1
There are some bikini styles I'm hesitant to buy, even if I think my booty looks good in the dressing room mirror. One such cut is the cheeky high-rise. I'm just afraid that when I'm finally romping around on the beach, I won't be able to enjoy the sand between my toes because I'll just be feeling so . . . bare. If I dare to invest in such narrow bottoms, won't I feel like "it's all hanging out"?
I've gone back and forth with this, but Iskra Lawrence's recent appearance in Miami just encouraged me to give the cheeky look a whirl. You see, even though she's showing skin to her hips, Iskra's suit is extremely flattering, with a waist that cinches just below the belly button.
Also, I love a bandeau with structure, which allows you to show off your shoulders, or even a stunning piece of jewelry, like Iskra's gold chain. There's just something about the lines of Iskra's exact set that puts me at ease as I take a deep breath and finally add a cheeky design of my own to the cart. Read ahead if you'd like to join me.
