Curious About the Mediterranean Diet? Here's a Week of Meals to Get You Started
The Mediterranean diet is touted time and time again as the best diet out there. It's not only great for shedding pounds, but it can also improve your gut health and even your brain function. And did we mention it can help you live longer? If you haven't tried this simple diet yet, it's time to give it a shot.
Meals on the Mediterranean diet follow this formula: half vegetables and fruit, a quarter whole grains, and a quarter fish, lean protein, or vegetarian protein, with a small amount of healthy fat. Sounds simple, right? The diet is less extreme than many other diets, so it's likely to be an easy transition from whatever you're eating now. It's just a matter of filling up on low-starch vegetables and fruits and keeping your lean protein intake high. To get you started, we've put together a week of meals you can try out. You can, of course, mix and match as you please, as long as you keep the meal formula in mind.

If You're Busting Your Ass at the Gym and Not Losing Weight, Bob Harper Says This Is Why
Losing weight takes a considerable overall lifestyle effort, including dialing in your diet, working out, getting enough sleep, and managing stress. But of all the factors at play that can help you lose weight, many people tend to solely focus on their activity. If they just up their workout regimen and log hours at the gym, they think they can reach their goals.
Turns out, upping your activity is only half the battle. Less than half the battle, actually, since losing weight requires a focus on nutrition and eating in a calorie deficit. It's a problem fitness guru Bob Harper sees all too often. "I don't want people to work so hard in the gym and then blow it all by eating too much or too much of the wrong thing," he told POPSUGAR.
He added that some people view working out, especially cardio, as a means to burn off the food they ate or as an excuse to indulge later. And while it's important to eat the foods you want in moderation, putting such an emphasis on cardio could backfire.
"I think that people tend to overdo it when it comes to their cardio activity," he told POPSUGAR. "What that's going to actually do, it could have a reverse effect; that high-intensity cardio will actually make you hungrier."
Like Bob mentioned in a video on his Instagram as part of a series called #TwoCupsIn, "People still think that they are going to be able to go to the gym and do all this cardio and be able to get the body that they are looking to get, and I'm here to tell you that that's not necessarily the case," he said. "You have got to focus on what you're eating every single day and at every single meal. You're going to get the body you want by working out in the kitchen."
To figure out how many calories you should eat a day for weight loss, use this formula, which factors in your height, weight, and activity level. If you're confused about what to eat, check out this post from nutritionists who share what to eat at every meal to lose weight. Sure, exercise is important - but if your diet isn't dialed in, you won't see the results you are looking for.

Girl Scout cookie season is the best season (sorry, Summer and Fall), and it's going to be better than ever this year thanks to a new cookie. Girl Scouts announced the addition of the Caramel Chocolate Chip cookie back in August 2018, and it's finally available as part of the 2019 cookie season, which kicked off on Jan. 2. Bonus: it's also gluten-free, so more cookie-lovers of the world can enjoy it!
This new cookie will join another gluten-free option in the Girl Scout lineup: Toffee-tastic, a buttery cookie introduced in 2015 that has sweet, crunchy, golden toffee bits. Both gluten-free cookies will be offered only in select Girl Scout council markets, so you'll have to reach out to your local council to check availability. These cookies will join returning classics like Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Samoas, and Trefoils. Let the cookie hoarding begin.
How to Not Eat Complete Sh*t When You Are Ridiculously Busy
Source: POPSUGAR Photography
I know I'm not alone in the struggle to eat real food while surviving a crazy busy day. Many of us can relate to getting up too early and staying up too late, trying to squeeze in a workout, weeding through a constantly clogged email inbox, furiously typing 100 WPM, trying not to neglect friendships and relationships, and remembering to breathe. But the most essential thing to the success of a day is fuel . . . and M&M's, frozen mac and cheese, and endless cups of coffee aren't sustainable forever. As I'm entering my late 20s and my metabolism is beginning to resemble a sloth's movement, I'm more than ever attempting to find the easiest and most delicious ways to eat real food. Here are some of my ideas:
Source: POPSUGAR Photography
Breakfast
I try to eat breakfast away from a computer. It may be my only meal of the day that's not in front of a screen. Since I'm up really early, I usually end up eating two breakfasts (one savory at 6 a.m. and one sweet around 10 a.m.).
- Whole plain Greek yogurt with berries is a filling option. I love berries because they are delicious and don't require cutting! I also love tossing puffed brown rice on top for textural contrast.
- Mornings in the office are all about avocado on whole-wheat toast. If I'm at home, I'll top a fried egg on there. In the office, sliced hard-boiled egg is another great topper.
- Microwaveable oatmeal with peanut butter and banana tastes like cookies and only takes about five minutes to make.

Lunch
Oh, lunch! How neglected you typically are! Though I wish I could get my sh*t together enough in the a.m. to pack a perfect mason jar salad, I just don't. So here's what I do instead:
- Here's what I throw in my bag: prewashed greens (I love the kind with herbs for a little somethin' extra), a whole avocado, a lemon, and either smoked salmon or shredded chicken (that I totally buy by the cupfuls from the Whole Foods salad bar or steal the leftovers off of Sunday night's rotisserie chicken at my parents' house). I keep salt, pepper, and olive oil at my desk so I can quickly whip up a lemony vinaigrette. When I'm really strapped for salad fixings, I turn to the snacks at work - a mini wheel of cheese and a handful of almonds go a long way.
- Microwaveable meals like this edamame rice are really easy to throw together and taste so fresh and light.
- I rarely have leftovers, but when I do, it's usually soup, like this green pea soup. It makes for a satisfying lunch; I just make sure to pack it properly and bring in some soup toppings like fresh herbs.

Snacks
There are so many snacks in the office - which can totally derail my plans to eat well. I try to avert my eyes from the Oreos and chips (and the mini Snickers, which are my kryptonite) to focus on these beauties:
- Radishes, persian cucumbers, and baby carrots don't really require much prep, other than a quick rinse. I dip them in store-bought hummus or homemade hummus if it's something I've recipe developed.
- Freeze-dried fruit lasts a while and is nice to have on hand when a crunchy craving hits. My favorites are cherries and raspberries.
- Jerky! My office has turkey jerky readily available, but when I plan ahead, I opt for Krave Chili Lime beef jerky.

Dinner
I'm currently taking a nighttime coding class, so I don't get home until 10 p.m. But even before those days, I would hit the gym and get home at 8 p.m. At that point, I'm starving and need something near immediately, so these are my go-tos:
- Tolerant Red Lentil Rotini is my most favorite pantry staple. Because I'm not home often, I don't usually keep raw meat available, and this gluten-free pasta has 21 grams of protein per serving! Ten times out of 10, I eat pasta like so: with olive oil, parmesan, and chili flakes. And if tender greens are in my fridge, I throw them in the pasta water during the last minute of cooking.
- The lovely Nicole Perry introduced me to this one-pan salmon recipe. It's chock-full of crispy cabbage and kale, it comes together in a flash, and it's easy to clean up. I make it on my weekend nights home.
- Millet-lentil salad dressed with whatever herbs and veggies I have on hand is another dinner staple. And bonus: the leftovers pack up nicely for lunch too.

15 Dating Mistakes You Need to Stop Making If You're Looking For Love in 2019
I've been called a dating expert a time or two, and as soon as someone gets categorized this way, it begs the question: if you're so good at dating, why are you still single? Because coaches don't play.
I wish it were that simple, because that'd be a great mic-drop answer. Really, it's because I'm not an expert; I just do the dating thing a lot and then write about it. I've made plenty of mistakes, including that time I scheduled back-to-back dates in one night and mixed up their names, so they both got very confusing text messages about timing and meetup locations. As one of my favorite writers, Matteson Perry, shared with me, "Though it's called 'casual dating,' to do it right, you have to be as organized and detail-oriented as an air-traffic controller. Regular communication, scheduling, and planning are key, especially if you're dating more than one person at a time."
Matteson is on the money, and his words got me thinking about the bigger, more classic mistakes that we all make when dating. As the new year kicks off and we resolve to fix our dating faux pas in 2019, we're going to need some words of wisdom from the queen of tough love herself. I sat down with the one and only "Millionaire Matchmaker," Patti Stanger, for some no-nonsense talk about what we're doing wrong and, more importantly, how to fix it in 2019.

Keeping Your Apps Organized Just Got So Much Easier, Thanks to This Cool iPhone Feature
So, uh, did anyone else know you could select multiple apps like this on iOS?
Because I definitely didn't just discover it. pic.twitter.com/Nq0wfuqzb6- manik (@ManikRathee) December 29, 2018
Our iPhones can do a lot of cool things, though a handful of said things often tend to get a lot more shine than others. So it's not hard to imagine how, every now and then, some of us iPhone users end up learning things about our phones that we never knew before. Case in point: Manik Rathee, a Google engineer who shared a viral tweet last week in which he explained his recent discovery of a simple iPhone trick that allows users to select and drag multiple apps at a time. "So, uh, did anyone else know you could select multiple apps like this on iOS? Because I definitely didn't just discover it," he wrote.
A video accompanying the tweet shows a person demonstrating the trick, pressing and holding down one app until it enters wiggly mode, and then using another finger to select two more apps so that they can all be dragged across the screen together. It's a pretty easy trick, but it's a game changer for anyone who regularly reorganizes their apps and home screens, and tires of only being able to move one app at a time.
The feedback from the tweet alone - it currently has over 1,300 retweets and around 3,700 likes - indicated that this is yet another feature that many people are just now learning about. But, according to a few comments from other users, it isn't actually that new. The "hack" has apparently existed since the launch of iOS 11 back in September 2017, and it just hasn't been spoken of very much. Check out Rathee's video of the feature above.

Serena Williams and Roger Federer Gush Over Each Other After Their First-Ever Match
A battle of legends! On New Year's Day, Serena Williams and Roger Federer faced each other for the first time ever during a mixed doubles match at the 2019 Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia. Roger and his fellow Swiss partner Belinda Bencic beat Serena and Frances Tiafoe 2-1, but the two legends didn't care about the end result; they were just in awe of each others' serves.
After the match, Serena and Roger did a joint interview with the Tennis Channel, where they gushed over each other's skills and basked in the opportunity to play each other. "I'm way too excited," Serena said. Roger chimed in: "I was nervous returning . . . People talk about her serve so much and I see why it is such a wonderful serve because you just can't read it . . . We have the same qualities, but yours is a bit better."
Roger continued: "'It's Serena Williams,' I was telling myself. This is what I've always wanted, a big-time moment like this."
And of course, they finished with some adorable selfies. Ahead, find Serena and Roger's joint interview and some photos from their match that every sports fan will appreciate.
The Best Goal-Setting Journals to Crush Your 2019 Resolutions
Trying to tackle your goals without a plan is like trying to make a margarita without tequila - you won't get the results you want. OK, so that's not exactly how the motivational phrase goes, but if you want to set and accomplish goals for yourself, you have to be strategic about it.
One of the best ways to turn your dreams into a reality is actually writing out what you hope to achieve. By setting your intentions and outlining ways to attain your goals, you are that much more likely to see them through. If you need some guidance or just want some pretty paper to write on, here are 11 goal-setting journals to help you get sh*t done in 2019.
JLo's NYE Jumpsuit Makes Her Body Look Like It Belongs in a Museum
When it comes to JLo's looks, there are two types we admire: the ones she adorably coordinates with her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez and then the ones that flatter her figure from every angle, making her curves look spectacular! Impossible! Dangerously appealing. When the star performed on NBC's New Year's Eve program, she chose the latter style.
JLo worked a plunging Galia Lahav jumpsuit with sheer details, sequins woven throughout, and a long skirt that trailed behind her and swept the floor. She wore tall platforms, diamond studs, and a scarlet red lip, keeping things simply festive for the occasion. Would it be crazy daring for us to try to re-create this outfit? We can see why you might think so, but we rounded up some silhouettes that are inspired by JLo anyway, and we think her confidence alone is enough to encourage you to try one on.
I Tried the Pioneer Woman's Best Tomato Soup Ever Recipe and I'll Never Do Store-Bought Again
One of my ultimate cozy dinner indulgences is definitely a bowl of piping-hot tomato soup accompanied by a grilled cheese. Depending on how ambitious I felt, I used to satisfy my cravings by whipping up a delicious but slightly labor-intensive Ina Garten recipe (which requires chopping four pounds of vine-ripened tomatoes) or cave and grab a sub-par store-bought version. It wasn't until I discovered Pioneer Woman's best tomato soup ever recipe that I realized I could actually pull off great-tasting tomato soup in just 25 minutes. I made this last night after work and even had the table set and wine poured by the time my husband walked through the door, which never happens.
Leave it to Ree Drummond to come up with flavor-boosting, time-cutting hacks like adding a bottle of tomato juice, a can of diced tomatoes, and chicken bouillon for a quick and tasty soup base. The tartness of the tomatoes is balanced with a few tablespoons of sugar. Cream, basil, and parsley pull it all together at the end, adding a velvety richness that is brightened by the fresh herbs. After the first bite, it's easy to understand why more than 300 people are raving about this satisfying soup that doesn't require a single fresh tomato. If you're looking to treat yourself on a chilly night, whip this up with a side of grilled cheese. You won't be sorry.
The Best Diet For 2019 Has Already Been Named - Here's Everything You Need to Know About It
We are just two days into 2019, but already the best diet of the year has been named. US News and World Report listed the Mediterranean diet as the best overall diet for 2019 after evaluating 41 of the most popular diets. It was also named best diabetes diet, best diet for healthy eating, best plant-based diet, best heart-healthy diet, and easiest diet to follow.
The Mediterranean diet taking the top spot should come as no surprise. US News and World Report ranked the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet as the best overall diets for 2018, and this mostly plant-based diet has been proven to help you lose weight, live longer, reduce risk of heart disease, and boost brain health.
Rich in low-starch vegetables, fruit, healthy fats (mostly from olives and olive oil), nuts, seeds, whole grains, legumes, and fish, the Mediterranean diet eschews simple sugars and refined starches and is low in red meat. Interested in embarking on the diet for yourself? Read through to see a Mediterranean diet shopping list, what it's like to be on the diet, and why it's so easy to follow.
I'm a Trainer, and These Are the Exercises You Should Be Doing More of in 2019
Instead of sharing a list of exercises I think should be retired (like the crunch - please stop doing crunches!), I decided to compile a list of exercises I think you should be doing more of today, tomorrow, in 2019, and beyond.
For starters, compound exercises are a must. Ask any trainer and they'll tell you that multijoint movements like squats will help you burn more calories and fat because they require more energy to perform. You'll also find that unilateral exercises (single-arm or single-leg exercises) made the list because they help build symmetry on both sides of your body.
It's my hope that these exercises inspire you to try something new and experiment with your workouts to become stronger.
These Babies Were the First Ones Born in 2019, and What a Way to Ring in the New Year!
While some of us were celebrating with glasses of Champagne or snuggling on the couch waiting for the ball to drop with the TV blaring, nothing beats ringing in the new year by bringing new life into the world. Throughout the country, lucky moms and dads added new tiny members into their respective families, and frankly, the photos are beyond cute. Read through to get a look at the sweet little ones who entered the world either moments or a few hours after the clock struck midnight, and try not to smile from ear to ear in the process.
I Consumed Fresh Ginger Every Day For 1 Week, and These Were the Results
I've always loved the flavor of ginger. Spicy and pungent, it is delicious in tea form and almost completely cuts the bitterness of vegetables in fresh juices and smoothies (adding ginger is basically the only way I can stomach beets in my juices). And while I've always known it's frequently used to aid digestion, I will humbly admit I had no idea the spice boasts such a sprawling list of medicinal benefits. The experts say ginger root is a stellar anti-inflammatory, improves heart health, eases nausea and motion sickness, helps expel free radicals from the body, and is even linked with lowering cholesterol.
If this spicy root has this much power, I just had to test it out. I decided to consume fresh ginger every day for seven days. While there are many ways to consume it, I opted to head straight to my juicer each morning for a ginger and lemon shot and continued my ritual with a cup of homemade ginger tea at night. Whipping up the tea is easy; you simply pour a cup of boiling water over a hunk of raw ginger and let it sit for a few minutes.

"Grandma Gone Wild" Photo Shoot Features Woman Posing For Boudoir Photos in Bathtub Full of Yarn
When Lisa Bishop, a Georgia-based grandmother of five, wanted to give her husband a portrait of herself for Christmas, she turned to her daughter Samantha - a professional photographer - for help.
"The idea started as a joke," Samantha said. "My mom is actually very modest, so when I said she should do a boudoir shoot so that she can see what I do for a living, she joked, 'Only in a bathtub full of yarn.'"
Little did Lisa know that her daughter would make good on her requirement in the most hilarious way imaginable. When it came time for the shoot, Lisa – who loves to crochet – kept her word and climbed in the tub, filled to the brim with multicolored balls of yarn. Not only that, but she played along, posing seductively with a crochet needle and reading a knitting guide book.
Samantha called the hilarious series "Grandma Gone Wild" and turned it into a photo album for Lisa to give her husband, Mike, who was quite amused with the end result.
"Peep his adorable schoolboy reaction at the end," she told her followers on Facebook of the photos, which culminated with a handful of shots of her dad paging through the album. "Literally made this whole thing a thousand times better."
What's more: Mike isn't the only one is a fan of this silly-yet-sexy keepsake. Samantha's post went viral – it was shared more than 62,000 times! – and among the 15,000 comments were many from people wanting their own version. So, by popular demand, Samantha released a "Grandma's Gone Wild" calendar on Etsy for $25, and it comes with some extra, never-before-seen images of Lisa, this time in the bedroom.
But don't worry, the bed's filled with yarn, too.

Netflix's Sex Education Is Perfect For Any Fan of Big Mouth or Freaks and Geeks
Even though we'd never want to relive the painfully awkward everything that was adolescence, there's no denying we love a good coming-of-age story. There's something about knowing how that time is universally uncomfortable for us all that soothes our traumatized souls. So, of course, Netflix's newest series is perfect for lovers of shows like Big Mouth or the cult classic Freaks and Geeks.
The eight-episode series Sex Education follows English teenagers who decide to establish a clinic that provides answers to their peers' endless questions about sex. Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game) stars as Otis Milburn, a socially awkward teen who happens to be the only child of two sex therapists, Jean and Remi. X-Files star Gillian Anderson portrays Jean, Otis's larger-than-life mother who has absolutely no filter. (We already adore her.) Despite being woefully inexperienced, because of his sexually open upbringing Otis is much more of an expert in intimacy than his fellow students. He decides to team up with the school's "bad girl," Maeve (Emma Mackey), to set up an "underground sex therapy clinic" and help with his classmates' weird and wonderful problems.
Netflix describes the dramedy as a "modern portrayal of sexual and romantic experiences, friendships, and contemporary young-adult life" and a "British love letter to the classic American high school story." Considering how much success Netflix has had with the like-minded series Big Mouth (which was recently renewed for season three), we can only imagine how well received Sex Education will be when it debuts on Netflix Jan. 11. In the meantime, check out the trailer above, and then scroll through some photos from the series below.
MTV's True Life Is Back, and the Season Premiere Will Tackle a Common Celebrity Obsession
True Life is back for more modern tales. MTV is rebranding the respected docuseries, which first aired in 1998, as True Life/Now. The first episode will focus on the lengths three people will go to in order to look and live like the Kardashians - oftentimes to the detriment of their personal lives - as well as society's collective fascination with the famous family.
Though True Life really hits its stride in the early 2000s, the series has continued to release episodes in recent years, although with less consistency. Based on a recently released trailer for the forthcoming season, additional episodes will tackle social media, butt enhancement procedures, and other plastic surgery trends. The season kicks off with "Obsessed with Being a Kardashian" on Jan. 2 - watch the trailer above.

Kim and Kanye Are Expecting Baby Number 4, and You Don't Have to Wait to Find Out the Sex!
Kim and Kanye are going to need to pull another (high) chair up to their table. It's been confirmed that the couple are expanding their family in 2019 and that baby number four - their second child via gestational carrier - is due in early May. And it's a boy!
When it came to the surrogacy process the first time, Kim and Kanye didn't opt to choose their child's sex; rather, Kim told Elle that she advised her doctor to "'pick the healthiest one,' and that was a girl." After welcoming baby Chicago in January 2018, sources close to the couple revealed that Kim and Kanye had one embryo left, and that it was a male.
That means that the newest West baby is going to keep the family's current girl-boy birth order intact, and we can only imagine he'll have a name as unique as his three older siblings'.
We can't wait to "meet" him in May!
Kim Kardashian's Tweet About Bird Box Inspired a Hilarious Response From Chrissy Teigen
According to Netflix, Bird Box is its most successful original film in the history of . . . well, ever. With 45,037,125 accounts reportedly watching the sci-fi horror flick within the first seven days of its release, you can bet that basically everyone you know has seen it. But you know who didn't watch Bird Box along with the rest of the world? One Kimberly Kardashian West.
On Tuesday night - 11 days after its initial release on Dec. 21 - she tweeted that she had just started watching the film and asked her millions of followers "Who has seen it?" To be fair, she's reportedly been busy getting ready to welcome her fourth child with husband Kanye West and likely doesn't have time to watch Sandra Bullock fend off invisible death monsters. That, however, didn't stop Chrissy Teigen from roasting her friend on social media, who replied, "kimberly like everyone in the entire world."
Naturally it didn't take long until everyone started sharing their own incredulous reactions to Kim's question, which are almost as funny as all those Bird Box memes that have been floating around the internet. (Almost.) Check out Kim and Chrissy's hilarious interaction ahead!
This Genius Hack Keeps False Lashes Looking as Curly as the First Day You Got Them
There's nothing quite like a fresh set of false eyelashes for a dramatic effect, but there's a trick to getting them to look just right. We know how to make them look expensive using just a spoolie, and now thanks to eyelash expert Loreta Jasilionyte, we also know the best (and cheapest) way to ensure your falsies stay as curly as possible. "Before you even put the lashes on, moisten them [using water], then place on a plain sheet of paper," said Jasilionyte. "Roll your wrapped lashes around a pencil and secure them with a rubber band. Leave for an hour or so until they fully dry out." Your lashes should look good as new, and so curly they're basically reaching for the ceiling - just how we like them.

Emily Ratajkowski Ended 2018 in a Sexy String Bikini - Would You Expect Anything Less?
Emily Ratajkowski ended 2018 much like how she spent a good part of the year - in a bikini. The model and actress recently shared a picture of herself vacationing on New Year's Eve in a strappy red bikini from her own swimwear brand, Inamorata. Both the bikini top and bottom feature a ruched look, a style which Emily often wears.
In other pictures from that day, Emily was joined by Instagram personality Josh Ostrovsky, commonly known as The Fat Jew. Kim and Kanye Are Expecting Another Baby in 2019 - and We Already Know Which Month!
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are adding another little one to the family! The couple is expecting their fourth child via gestational carrier in early May, according to Us Weekly.
Kim and Kanye are already parents to 5-year-old North, 3-year-old Saint, and Chicago, who turns 1 on Jan. 15. Their fourth, which sources have confirmed is a boy, will be their second to be delivered via gestational carrier. After Kim experienced traumatic births with both North and Saint, the couple decided surrogacy was the best option for them moving forward.
"Although I have used the term surrogate in the past, a gestational carrier is actually the technical term for a woman who carries a baby that she has no biological relationship to. A traditional surrogate donates her egg, is artificially inseminated with the father's sperm, and then carries the baby to term. Since we implanted my fertilized egg in our gestational carrier, our baby is biologically mine and Kanye's," Kim wrote on her website in 2018.
Congrats, Kardashian-West family - we can't wait to meet this little babe in May!
Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Are Expecting Their Fourth Daughter! See the Announcement
Kobe Bryant may have retired from professional basketball in 2016 as a five-time NBA champion, but his stats off the court just keep on growing. On New Year's Day, he and wife Vanessa Bryant announced that they're expecting their fourth child, a baby girl, later this year. He even told James Corden in 2017 he runs Phil Jackson's famous triangle offense with the girls! Ahead, find Kobe and Vanessa's baby announcement and more photos of the growing family.

Hilary Duff Asked For Help With Her Daughter's Colic, and Yep, the Internet Delivered
Although the sweet coos and wiggly little toes are an unforgettable part of becoming a mom, the first few months of motherhood can be challenging and utterly exhausting. Hilary Duff, mom to a 2-month-old daughter Banks Violet, knows the struggle. Recently, she shared that Banks has been having issues with colic - loud, intense crying three hours or more a day, three or more days a week - on Instagram. Like most curious parents, she turned to the internet for guidance.
"Calling all parents of colic[ky] babies . . . this ends right?," she asked. "Can you ever set them down without them screaming OR waking up? We have read everything the internet has to offer . . . nothing besides nursing basically every hour or less helps! We have done all the obvious things. Please leave magic tricks in comments. Oh and happy new year lol."

Right off the bat, the Younger star got tons of advice. A few parents suggested she use gripe water, while others directed her to see a pediatric chiropractor. But it wasn't until she shared another photo of herself eating Brussels sprouts while breastfeeding an hour later that the advice truly poured in.
According to a few parents in the comments section, eating Brussels sprouts while breastfeeding can potentially make an infant supergassy and lead to colic. "Sweetheart that right there could be the reason for colic," wrote one woman. "Brussels sprouts are a very gassy food as well as cabbage and could be causing sweet baby a tummy ache." Another person chimed in, citing firsthand experience. "Brussel sprouts aren't good when you're breastfeeding – they give gas to the baby," she wrote. "I've learned that the hard way."
Fingers crossed Banks gets through her colicky stage ASAP!
Joanna Gaines Shares Her Inspiring New Year’s Resolution, but Not Without Throwing Some Shade at Chip
Joanna Gaines's first full year as a mom of five is going to be a good one, if her New Year's resolution is any indication. The mom, who welcomed her fifth child, Crew, back in June, is realizing that with this many kids constantly growing and changing around her, living in the moment is the only way to capture the essence of each moment.
"It's always been my nature to reflect on the past and linger there a while. I find myself thinking about what I will miss and how life is just moving too fast," Joanna wrote on Instagram (basically taking thoughts out of my brain, might I add). "Crew is already 6 months old and saying 'mama' (I had to throw that in there, sorry Chip). Drake will be driving in two years and off to college in four. And just like that I have found myself mourning the past but now in future tense. You see what I just did there? This whole time thing can feel like a thief if you let it."
Jo continued, noting that her challenge to herself this year is going to be to live more presently and to enjoy what's going on, when it's going on. "Not thinking about how the good ol' days have passed us by or how the best is yet to come. But that right now, this very second, this is the gift. These are the days. These are the moments. And I'm gonna breathe them all in. If there's pain and sorrow, or happiness and hope, let it in and then let it out," she wrote. "I want to enjoy the now because it's the only thing we can actually embrace. I want to hold it carefully. Hold it thoughtfully. I want to rid myself of the little distractions because I have found that these are the thieves that steal our moments and rob our days. But time, time is our most precious gift."
Ain't that the truth, mama.
The 1 Mindfulness Trick That Helps Me Control My Anxiety in Just a Few Minutes
I have been living with anxiety ever since I very suddenly lost a baby late in pregnancy a few years ago. I am doing better now than when it first happened, but I still suffer from bouts of extreme anxiety, and I don't always know what is going to trigger them.
The best way I can describe what an anxiety attack feels like for me is abruptly experiencing the sensation that my feet are no longer planted firmly on the ground and instead I'm floating away and my body has gone numb. It can be hard to breath. I often feel as if I can't focus on what is happening around me. If another person is talking to me, their words become background noise. I become disoriented, overpowered by this one idea: "This is not my life."
Living with anxiety has been extremely challenging, and I definitely don't have it all figured out. It's also not always possible to pull myself out of my fog right away, but I have developed a trick that helps me regain control of my feelings in most situations. It's all about checking in with each of my senses and doing my best to feel present.
I focus on feeling my feet on the ground. Sometimes I'll even stomp to convince myself I am supported by the sidewalk, the floor, the grass, or whatever surface I happen to be standing on.
The first thing I do is try to stop that feeling that I'm floating and instead focus on feeling my feet firm on the ground. Sometimes I'll even stomp to convince myself I am supported by the sidewalk, the floor, the grass, or whatever surface I happen to be standing on. Paying attention to all of my senses helps. I'll force myself to hear, see, smell, and feel whatever is around me. I make a conscious effort to feel the breeze on my skin. I smell flowers. I hear traffic going by or my dog barking. I notice the heat of the sun on my neck, the birds chirping, that there's music playing in a store. Perhaps my hand is in contact with someone else's, like my daughter's and I squeeze her hand. Maybe I can lean up against a wall or touch a tree trunk. If nothing else, I'll tighten my abdominal muscles to regain the sensation of being in my own body.
Next, I key into my breath. I listen to it go in and then out - in and out, slowly, in and out; one breath at a time. The goal of keying into my body and breath is to draw myself back into the present moment instead of letting my thoughts spin out of control. Usually, after this exercise, I am able to calm down at least enough to think more clearly and make a decision about what to do next.
I practice this mindfulness technique many times each day. If I had an upsetting thought on the way to school drop-off or one of my children asked me a tough question about our loss or if I saw something that triggered a difficult memory. Calling on my little trick is practically involuntary at this point, and I'm glad I have a technique that eases the anxiety and prevents it from freezing me on the spot. I hope trying it out can help you or someone you know who suffers from anxiety.
