I Tried Everything to Lose Weight After Having Children, but This Is What Actually Worked

I shudder to think how painfully strict I was when I wanted to lose weight after my first three pregnancies. The thing is, I honestly didn't know there was any other way to be. From the moment my babies were born, I would never permit myself to cheat on my diet. That meant no chips (which are the food love of my life), no bread, no carbs of any kind. If I slipped and ate a tortilla chip, I'd be so down on myself. But self-hatred wasn't enough of a punishment. Because then, I'd overcompensate and deny myself more, until eating became completely unenjoyable.

My exercise routine was equally as unforgiving. I'd force myself to run a certain distance, or work out at a brutal level for a set amount of time, no matter how tired or sore my body felt. There were no exceptions, whether I'd been up all night with my child, or was coming down with some illness. Given how rigidly I stuck to my diet and fitness regimen, when I didn't lose weight during a given week, I'd fall into a horribly abusive state of mind, chastising myself for this perceived failure. I never let myself celebrate until the scale reached a very specific number of pounds. Although I eventually lost all the baby weight after about nine months to a year, the journey was miserable.

It took me until after my fourth child was born to realize there is a better way to lose baby weight, and it involves being, gasp, kind to myself.

It took me until after my fourth child was born to realize there is a better way to lose baby weight, and it involves being, gasp, kind to myself. This shift was born mainly out of necessity, since I no longer have the time to be so strict in my approach to eating and exercise. My more gentle weight-loss plan started after my son arrived, and I came home to a new level of chaos. I was lucky to have time to go to the bathroom, let alone plan out a low-carb, low-fat meal. When neighbors brought over dinners, I felt grateful to shove a few bites of whatever they'd prepared in my mouth in between breastfeeding the baby, helping my preschooler on the potty, and driving two older kiddos to every activity under the sun.

My first several weeks postpartum were a blur. I ate (quickly!) when I had time, and stretched or walked if it fit into the day. Once I established more of a routine with the kids, I started slowly getting back to a more healthy diet and regular exercise routine. But not every meal is going to be salad or poached fish. Sometimes I'll shovel the children's leftover macaroni and cheese into my mouth. When this happens, I refuse to punish myself, because I know I'm doing the best I can. Likewise, I've done my very best to incorporate exercise into my day somewhere, whether it's walking the long way home after escorting my kids to school, or taking 15 minutes to practice yoga while the baby coos in his pack 'n play. On the days I only manage to carve out five minutes for a few sun salutations, I realize it is not the end of the world, but rather, reality as a mom of four.

Given my more relaxed attitude toward weight loss, it has been shocking to see the pounds fall off more quickly than when I pushed myself through brutal, 45-minute HIIT workouts and shunned every food that wasn't kale, almonds, or salmon. Just five months after having my son, I have lost nearly all of what I gained while pregnant. I still work out and eat healthy foods, but if one night dinner is chips and hummus while I bathe the kids, and I can only squeeze in a few planks and push-ups in between folding laundry, so be it.

My more kind and loving attitude toward myself has drastically lowered my anxiety around losing weight.

I believe it's my attitude toward weight loss that has made this such a different journey. My more kind and loving attitude toward myself has drastically lowered my anxiety around losing weight. I feel so much healthier and more balanced, as well as less hormonal and stressed out. Instead of hurtling numbly toward one, very specific goal, I allowed myself the space and freedom to appreciate each step along the way. When a certain pair of pants fits, even though I know I ultimately have more weight to shed, I take the time to appreciate how far I've come. But it's not only about weight loss this time. I also celebrate when I feel stronger, like when I can hold a forearm plank for 30 seconds instead of 15, or when my chair pose seems like it's infused with more ease than before.

I'm so happy I learned you don't have to mistreat yourself to see your body change. You don't have to berate and deprive yourself to get results. Sticking to a cruel diet that centers around self-denial and merciless sweat sessions born of the "no pain, no gain" mentality isn't the only way to lose weight. I'd encourage any new mama to adopt this mindful, realistic eating and exercise lifestyle that makes room for kind thoughts, self-love, gratitude, and forgiveness. Because losing weight shouldn't mean losing your sanity, too.

Exactly What You Need to Know Before Trying Orangetheory in 2019 - Including the Price

You've probably heard of, or seen an Orangetheory fitness studio. The interval-based workout franchise, which is the brainchild of physiologist Ellen Latham, is exploding and now boasts over 700 locations nationwide, from New York to Alaska.

While the name Orangetheory is cool in and of itself, there's actually quite a bit behind it. Read on to have your questions answered about how much classes cost, what's involved in each session, and what you'll ultimately get out of a membership.

What Is Orangetheory?

To get the most out of your workouts, you'll need to buy into the gym's so-called Orangetheory, which is based on the physiological theory of "Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption," or EPOC, also known as the afterburn effect. Basically, the goal of any sweat session at OTF is to train within the "Orange Zone," a target heart rate, for 12 minutes or more. Doing so is said to improve your endurance and overall fitness. With the afterburn effect, you will continue burning calories at an elevated rate even after your workout is finished.

What's Involved in a Typical Orangetheory Session?

During your one-hour interval workout at OTF, you'll be coached through both cardiovascular and strength exercises. A class might start out with treadmill, bike, or strider work, then switch to weight-training via TRX suspension machines and free weights. At the end of a sesh, OTF claims you will have burned upwards of 500 calories!

Is There Any Special Equipment Involved in Orangetheory?

The short answer is "yes." To effectively monitor your heart rate, OTF uses its own heart-rate monitors. So your Fitbit won't be compatible with their app-enabled system. Once you are equipped with either the OTBeat Flex, a heart-rate monitor worn on your forearm, the OTBeat Core, a chest strap, or the newest OTBeat Burn, which can be worn on your wrist, forearm, or bicep, your individual heart rate is displayed on screens around the room. You're only competing with yourself, however, since again, the goal is to hit the Orange Zone for at least 12 minutes of your workout. Fun incentive: for each minute you stay in the Orange Zone, you earn a "Splat point," which can be tracked via the app.

How Much Do Orangetheory Classes Cost?

Membership rates vary depending on where you live. We talked to Orangetheory, and they told us there's a range of membership packages to choose from, from Basic (4 classes for $59/month) to Elite (8 classes for $99/month) to Premier (unlimited classes for $159/month). These are just estimates, so it's best to connect with a studio rep to discuss a plan that works for you; other premium locations, such as in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, and Dallas, cost more. If you live in Manhattan, you'll have to shell out $199 for an Elite membership and a cool $279 for the Premier.

No matter which level you go for, no annual contract is involved. Phew! And you can take additional classes at a discounted rate once you purchase a membership; the average cost of a class is $28. It's also worth noting the heart-rate monitors require an additional fee; between $5 and $10 for a rental, and between $69 and $109 to purchase. The good news? Anyone can try a free introductory class. And there's an app for that, too, and for booking future sessions.

What Else Do I Need to Know?

All this stuff about heart rate and points and interval training zones may sound intimidating. But the truth is, since your results are individually tracked and assessed, Orangetheory classes are designed for all fitness levels. The classes are led by coaches who are there to motivate you to be your personal best and reach your fitness goals. No matter where you start, OTF claims you will see increased energy in one month, "amazing results" in three months, and the start of a "new you" in six. Sounds like it's worth a try!

Ditch the Treadmill and Do The Fitness Marshall's Dance Workout to "Kiss and Make Up"

If cardio isn't really your thing, we know how to help you move more and actually enjoy it. All you've got to do is choose one of The Fitness Marshall's dance videos and simply follow along to the choreography. You'll be moving all over, you'll learn some new moves you can show off the next time you're out with friends, and it's a lot better than spending an hour on the treadmill.

If you aren't sure which workout to follow, try his latest dance cardio workout to "Kiss and Make Up" by Dua Lipa and Blackpink. The song alone makes us want to teleport to a beach and sip on a piña coloda, and once you add TFM's moves to the mix, you'll really be feeling amazing.

"I cannot remember the last time I felt this fierce doing a dance," TFM told POPSUGAR. "This song screams super-diva popstar! There are only a few moves in this dance, so it gives everyone plenty of time to nail it (or at least be more familiar with it) by the end."

Are You Ready? These 9 Nike Sneakers Are All on Sale, Just in Time For Your Next Workout

You've still got time to make good on those New Year's fitness resolutions, but to do that, you need a great pair of sneakers. We've always loved Nike's footwear because they perform well no matter what activity you choose, and they look good doing it. Running, strength training, or just looking cool on the weekends, these nine pairs can do it all. And, as a bonus, they all happen to be on sale right now. Run, don't walk - your new favorite sneakers are waiting for you!

Jumpstart Your New Year's Resolution With This Beginner's 4-Week Strength Training Program

Now that you've decided to start lifting weights, you're probably wondering where exactly you should begin. We know the weight room can seem intimidating, which is why we created this guide to get you acclimated to lifting weights. This program is designed to first and foremost introduce you to weightlifting, and second help you build lean muscle - and yes, you'll lose fat as well.

You'll work out three times a week for four weeks. Ideally we'd like you to do the strength sessions with a lighter activity day in between (swimming, yoga, etc.), but we do understand that life happens, so move them around to fit your schedule! The first two weeks will be very simple but still challenging. On weeks three and four, the sets and reps will increase. A sample week will look like the following:

  • Monday: Week 1, Workout A
  • Tuesday: Foam roll for 15 minutes
  • Wednesday: Week 1, Workout B
  • Thursday: 20-minute easy run
  • Friday: Week 1, Workout C
  • Saturday: Hour long walk
  • Sunday: Yoga

For the exercises that require weight, start with either 7.5-pound or 10-pound dumbbells. If this feels too light or too heavy, make necessary adjustments. It's more important to master the movement than to move carelessly with heavier weights. Don't forget to warm up and cool down after every workout. For your warmup you can do an easy run or dynamic exercises to activate your muscles like butt kicks, high knees, plank saws, and glute bridges.

Since you're being more active, you will more than likely notice that you have a larger appetite. Listen to your body and fuel it with nutritious foods like vegetables, protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats. Drink lots of water and be sure to replace the electrolytes you've lost with a sports drink or electrolyte tablets.

We Asked a Sleep Doctor How to Fall Asleep Faster, and His Solution Is Snacking (Bless)

Drifting off to sleep can be super hard some nights, but what if we told you that getting a bite to eat could help you fall asleep faster? It's true, as long as you choose an evening snack that's rich in melatonin.

"Melatonin is the chemical that makes us sleepy at night. Light - either from the sun or your laptop - suppresses melatonin," W. Christopher Winter, MD, author of The Sleep Solution: Why Your Sleep Is Broke and How to Fix It, told POPSUGAR. That means you should power down your devices in the evening, but supplementing with melatonin can also help improve sleep and combat insomnia. That said, taking it in the over-the-counter form you find in pharmacies may not be safe, particularly over the long-term. Instead, try one of these three melatonin-packed snacks:

  • Walnuts: "In addition to having high levels of tryptophan (an amino acid that aids in melatonin production), walnuts also have a unique form of melatonin in high levels," Dr. Winter said.
  • Tart cherries: "Tart cherries have been shown to produce a surge in melatonin that can be helpful with sleep initiation," Dr. Winter explained. A 2017 pilot study found that those who drank one cup of tart cherry juice twice a day for two weeks increased sleep time by 84 minutes compared to those in the placebo group.
  • Kiwis: The fuzzy fruit can seriously help you fall asleep. In a small study, people who ate two kiwis an hour before bed for four weeks decreased the amount of time it took for them to fall asleep by 35 percent.

This Is How Stress Is Wreaking Havoc on Your Metabolism and Preventing Weight Loss

No matter how much we try, we can't completely avoid stress. Fortunately, there are proven ways to reduce stress, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and exercise. We know that high levels of stress can impact everything from getting a quality night's rest to an increase in fat in your abdomen region, commonly referred to as belly fat.

Stress can appear in many ways physically, but there's also a hidden way it's affecting important body processes such as your metabolism. To learn how stress is affecting our metabolism, POPSUGAR spoke with Avigdor Arad, Ph.D., RDN, CDE, director of the Mount Sinai PhysioLab.

If Irina Shayk Wants to Give Up Her Spot at Dinner, We'd Gladly Sit There Twinning With Bradley

After Irina Shayk and Bradley Cooper pulled out all the stops to win the title of hottest couple at the Golden Globes, the duo jetted off to New York City, where Irina accompanied her esteemed husband at The National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala. Bradley picked up the trophy for best director for A Star Is Born, and while there was a red carpet at the occasion - where Lady Gaga led the way in a Ralph Lauren tuxedo gown - Irina kept her sexy Versace look on the DL. That is, if you count parading into the event holding Bradley's hand as "on the DL."

When they posed at the dinner table inside, it was immediately clear that Irina's houndstooth blazer dress and matching beret coordinated with Bradley's checked three-piece suit. And the floral pattern on his tie even mimicked the hardware on Irina's Versace logo bag. Oh, the adorableness of it all! What I wouldn't give to match with my Bradley . . . I mean, my boyfriend. Of course. Keep reading to check out all the pics from the night, then shop Irina's exact Versace number, if you think it's worth the splurge, along with plenty of similar pieces you could belt and transform into a date-night mini.

Stormi Webster's Reaction to Her New Purse Is the Exact Level of Diva I Plan to Be in 2019

Somebody get this girl a pair of oversize sunglasses and car keys to swing around her finger, because Stormi Webster is the cutest little diva we've ever seen! Kylie Jenner recently shared an Instagram video of her 11-month-old daughter receiving a mini Louis Vuitton purse, and it's pretty much the same reaction I have anytime someone gives me attention. Earlier in the day, Stormi's aunt Kim Kardashian posted a photo of eight mini purses, writing, "I got these for all of the baby girls in the fam for Xmas from Japan," and for the first time ever, I wished I were a toddler.

We all know the reality of a "shopper's high" feeling after making a well-deserved purchase, and although this was a gift, Stormi's face says it all. Based on her reaction alone, this cutie has some great taste in purses, and it's absolutely not the first time she's stunned in designer brands. From Stormi's Burberry Winter coat to her Fendi stroller, Kylie's been dazzling her daughter in high-end brands since she was born. I'm just wondering why my aunt never thought to get me a mini Louis purse before my first birthday?!

Find a Partner Who Matches Outfits With You Like Rami Malek Did For Lucy Boynton

It's only been a week since Rami Malek officially confirmed his romance with Lucy Boynton, and it looks like they're already killing the couple style game. While heading to Jimmy Kimmel Live for Rami's late-night appearance, the Bohemian Rhapsody costars and real-life lovers coordinated in black-and-white outfits, thus proving they're a match made in rock 'n' roll heaven.

Mary Austin - er, I mean Lucy - wore a colorblock zip-up blouse with black skinny jeans, platform shoes, and a Celine bag, while Rami looked sharp in a striped collared shirt, bomber jacket, trousers, and white-soled sneakers. I mean, seriously, does it get any cuter than Queen twinning with his queen? (Sorry, I couldn't resist at least one corny Freddie Mercury pun!) Keep reading to see the power couple looking like two peas in a fashionable pod, and then shop similar colorblock pieces to mimic Lucy's chic outfit.

Kate Middleton's Favorite Styling Trick Is Surprisingly Simple

Kate Middleton's never had a blue period - she's always worn the color, and that's definitely not a bad thing. While the duchess has pretty much experimented with the whole rainbow, she routinely comes back to crisp cobalt coats, navy suit sets, and shades that fall at the ends of the spectrum, like periwinkle or indigo.

Why blue and not green or red you might wonder? Blue is the duchess's power color - it's the hue that makes her glow with confidence, whether she's walking the red carpet or stepping out for a public appearance, making a statement on the street. Needless to say, Kate's worked it in countless different ways, making us realize just how beneficial it is to find our own power color and run with it.

Read on to see all of the unique ways Kate's showed off the blue section of her wardrobe, and let it inspire you to experiment with your own favorite tone.

Gal Gadot's Sexy Black One-Piece Could Replace Her Wonder Woman Outfit, and We'd Be Fine

Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot enjoyed a lavish vacation with her best friends in the Maldives, and let's get real, that's the best kind of trip to pack for. All six ladies, including Israeli actresses Rotem Sela, Yael Goldman, and Maya Dagan, wore the chicest suits and posed for pics on the beach. Gal's makeup-free shot, however, made us forget all about the Instagram scrolling we originally had on the agenda.

The 33-year-old star flaunted a black one-piece with a splice across the midriff, and it wasn't just made for swimming but some relaxing yoga, too. The sophisticated design came in a one-shoulder silhouette, highlighting Gal's toned figure and showing just enough skin. It's no surprise she found a perfectly effortless look for her getaway and even less of a surprise that we're scooping up a similar one right now.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Is Building a Wardrobe With a Message - and We're All Ears

When politics becomes a space where critics, skeptics, and worse - antifeminists and racists - have used a thinly veiled fashion commentary to undercut their opposition, personal style becomes something of a public battleground, imbued with hidden meaning. Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama certainly know something about that. But even newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has barely spent a week in Congress, has already endured attacks on her appearance that were launched even before she took her oath as a member of the House.

Unfortunately, that's just how it goes. When we should be focusing on her message, we've been trained to look at her clothes, her smile, her hair. Even a look as innocuous as a black blazer has been the subject of scrutiny by a conservative writer who deemed the jacket too expensive-looking for a middle-class woman, an attempt to undermine Alexandria's message by attacking her clothing choice because it was what - too put-together? Too polished for someone "struggling"? It didn't accurately reflect who she says she is and what she says she stands for? If you believe that, you clearly haven't been paying attention.

The youngest woman ever elected to Congress didn't get here by accident. She's deliberate and direct with her messages - and that includes her wardrobe. She's leaning into the scrutiny with intentional clothing and accessories, as if to say, if the world is going to talk about my fashion choices, I'll give them something to talk about. In that vein, she dressed in a white suit, gold hoops, and a red lip for her swearing in in Congress and let us all know why on Twitter, adeptly paying homage to both the strong women who have come before her and the strong women she represents:

Watch her take control of her own style narrative, using her dress to inform, to provoke, to fire right back at her haters. In a place where dressing cues are so often used to objectify or sublimate women, Alexandria is flipping it all on its head, using what she wears to do the exact opposite: to show herself, to connect to other women, and to connect to women of color. As far as I'm concerned, that's the making of a great leader – and a fashion icon.

Here, take a look at some of our favorite fashion moments so far.

Oreo Is Selling New Valentine's Day Cookies With the Cutest Messages on Them

Following the lead of Lava Cake Hershey's Kisses and Heart-Shaped Starburst Jellybeans, a new Oreo flavor is the latest addition to the list of cutesy Valentine's Day snacks. The new Oreos - called Love, Oreo - are made with classic chocolate cookies and a "sweet and tangy" berry-flavored creme filling, and each one comes with a cute message printed on both sides à la conversation hearts. The sayings include phrases like "Let's Twist," "Dunk in Love," and "Xoxo Oreo."

Love, Oreos are currently available at select retailers for around $3 a pack - but fair warning that they've received some pretty mixed reviews so far, with blogger Dad Bod Snacks comparing the flavor to that of cherry limeade. "Which I'm not a fan of, sadly," he wrote. Still, for anyone who's interested in stocking up on Valentine's Day snacks early, the cookies are available at Target and Walmart.

Target Has Heart-Shaped Reese's and Hershey's Skillet Desserts, and I'll Take Both, Thanks

Not the best baker? Doesn't matter! Ahead of Valentine's Day, Target released two heart-shaped skillet desserts that would be pretty difficult to mess up. There's a Hershey's skillet, which comes with its mildly sweet chocolate brownie mix, and the Reese's skillet, which comes with a peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie mix.

Apart from sounding delicious, the festive dessert is fairly financially guilt-free at $7 per skillet. This new release joins Target's other Valentine's Day offerings, like Reese's Lovemojis, Lindt Lindor Red Velvet White Chocolate Truffles, and more. M&M's Is Releasing 3 New Flavors and I'm Not Sure What to Do With Myself

I don't know too many people who are fans of jalapeños and chocolate, but it's very possible that one of M&M's newest flavors will change that pretty soon. The beloved candy brand is debuting three new flavors in 2019, and they're not at all what you would expect. According to SnackChatLive, the new flavors are all internationally inspired and they include Mexican Jalapeño Peanut, English Toffee Peanut, and Thai Coconut Peanut.

The blogger behind SnackChatLive, whose real name is Brent Timm, took to his Instagram page to announce the candy's release back in September, claiming that we should expect the new flavors to be available by "Winter/Spring 2019." He also mentioned in his Instagram Story that the three flavors are all being introduced as part of a new version of a similar contest that M&M's has held before.

Last year, M&M's gave fans the opportunity to vote on a new Crunchy flavor and choose between Crunchy Espresso, Crunchy Raspberry, and Crunchy Mint. Crunchy Mint M&M's ended up winning the permanent spot, and now M&M's is gearing up to start the contest all over again, this time with Peanut flavors. M&M's hasn't announced the flavors or the contest on any of its official social media pages just yet, but you might want to get your voting hands ready in the meantime.

Martha Stewart's Hack to Scramble Eggs in a Cappuccino Machine Has the Internet in a Frenzy

When it comes to cooking tips, it's safe to say we'd trust almost anything Martha Stewart recommends, but a recent scrambled eggs hack is raising a few eyebrows across the internet. Last month, Martha linked up with the Food Network, where they collaborated on a video revealing an unexpected way to steam eggs: in a cappuccino machine! We're all about fluffy, scrambled eggs, but that typically occurs on a stovetop, right? Wrong! "These eggs are buttery and fluffy and light and delicious," Martha said after steaming the eggs in the coffee maker.

One POPSUGAR editor noted that she's tried eggs cooked in this unconventional way before, and they're "so, so good." Martha's always taking us out of our comfort zone in the kitchen, but it looks like she learned this tip from famed chef Jody Williams when she appeared on Martha's show in November 2011. Genius!

The comments on Food Network's video post immediately poured in, questioning, "and who's going to clean the frother?????" Others joked over future random cooking hacks: "Next up: How to cook a brisket in your dishwasher," one person wrote. Would you try steaming your eggs in a cappuccino machine?

Look out for the skillets on your next Target run - you know, the one where you say you're only stopping by to get two things - or shop for them online ahead!

Why I Stopped Judging Moms Who "Lean Out"

Now that I'm one year in as a mom, I'm surprised how my attitudes toward parenting have changed. Before I had a kid, I thought I would be bored with a baby. And I subconsciously judged moms who put their careers on hold more than seemed necessary, aka women who weren't obviously "leaning in" like Sheryl Sandberg suggested. After having my own child, my perspective shifted. Don't get me wrong: I still need stimulation and productivity outside of being a parent. But I'm more of a mom than I thought I would be and OK with the fact that it has taken away time from my previous priorities.

Embracing the Lack of Control

When you have a child, you give up some control of your time and emotions. Not only do I have to arrange my life around daycare drop-off and pickups, and naps and meal times, I now have someone I often desperately worry about. That cliché about your heart living outside of you is true.

While we have more resources and examples for women who balance careers and parenting, being a parent today still requires many of us to compromise personal goals. In your personal life, that can mean putting travel on hold or having less time for friends or romance. Professionally, you might have to figure out how to meet deadlines without having the option to stay late at your desk (which is totally possible, by the way). In addition, biases mean women pay a "motherhood penalty," making less money than nonmothers.

Being a parent forces you to have a life beyond your own wants and desires.

As a new mom, though, I've realized there is an upside to losing control. Being a parent forces you to have a life beyond your own wants and desires and can make you realize you have wants and desires you never knew were possible. You might not recognize your daily routine anymore, which can be destabilizing, but chances are it's expanded to include not just satisfaction from work, relationships, and hobbies, but also the warm feelings you get when your child accomplishes a new developmental milestone or gives you a kiss goodnight. It's almost like playing the emotional lottery every day - there are highs and lows, but the highs are worth it. I can only imagine that children add even more depth to your life as they get older and you can have more meaningful conversations and interactions with them.

No More Judgment

Parenting has taught me to truly leave judgment aside. Considering the fulfillment you can get from your children, I can see why some parents would want to work part-time or quit their jobs to spend time with their families, if they can afford it. I also know how hard it is to spend 12 hours straight with a child who needs your full attention, which makes me respect women who decide their time and talents are better used in their careers. I also completely understand why someone would decide not to have children at all.

I'm trying to judge myself less, too. I've spent my first year as a mom working part-time and feel grateful to have this flexibility. I now recognize that before having kids, I had an underlying attitude toward new moms who seemed to be "leaning out." Turns out, I'm one of them.

Gwyneth Paltrow Honeymooned With Her Kids AND Ex-Husband, Because She's a Coparenting Pro

Gwyneth Paltrow is in that blissful newlywed phase where you share cute photos, smile all the time, and have a honeymoon with your ex-husband and kids. You know, the usual. The powerhouse mom of two and CEO of Goop revealed on Live With Kelly and Ryan that she recently honeymooned in the Maldives with her new husband Brad Falchuck, whom she married in September in a beautiful ceremony. The twist? It was a family affair. Gwyneth's ex-husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, their two children, 14-year old Apple and 12-year-old Moses, and Brad's children were all there.

"We had a big family honeymoon over Christmas. We had my new husband, his children, my children, my ex-husband, our best family friends . . . it was a very modern honeymoon," Gwyneth said with a laugh. This is yet another example of how Gwyneth and Chris have made coparenting a huge priority in their lives. The parents have remained extremely close since they separated in 2014, and it's not unusual for Chris and Brad to hang out. The actress even hung up a stocking for Chris this past Christmas.

"We just wanted to minimize the pain for the kids, and they just want to see their parents around the dinner table," Gwyneth continued. Talk about being mature and putting the kids first. Watch the quick interview above, and then see some gorgeous snaps from the couple's tropical honeymoon ahead.
