Do You Need a "Friendship Cleanse"? Here's How to Know When to Say Goodbye
I'm no stranger to walking away from friendships. In fact, a few years ago I found myself walking away from five women who I thought would be my friends for life. Five women who I spent 14 years with; who transitioned with me from high school to college to adulthood; who I threw baby showers, birthday parties, and bachelorette events for; who I walked down the aisle next to as both a bridesmaid and a bride; who I spent countless hours sitting at a diner eating breakfast with; and who I had to walk away from in order to become the person that I am right now.
These friends, though, haven't been the only ones that I have had to let go of, and, to be honest, those were extreme circumstances. Not everyone has to make the decision that I did to walk away from an entire group of people in one fell swoop.
However, there have been other times in my life where I had to walk away from friends. Sometimes dramatically, and sometimes by just distancing myself. Either way, there are signs that a person is no longer serving a purpose for your life - because, let's be real, friends are here to serve a purpose in your life. It's not a selfish thing - you give each other something. But, sometimes it gets to the point where there is no benefit anymore.
While it may be hard to figure out whether you and your friend are just getting on each other's nerves and need some space, there are some things that shouldn't be overlooked when you are thinking about cutting ties.
Is There Resentment?
Funny, but most of my friendships have disintegrated because of resentment. For example, my college best friend got engaged, landed a job, moved out with her (very good looking) fiancé into an amazing apartment, and was planning a wedding within a month of graduation. I was still interning at a media company with no promises of a full time job, was engaged with no wedding plans in sight, and was living back at home with my parents. I was, however, partying it up at least four nights a week with my friends from high school who had all returned home. It turns out, she wanted my life and I wanted hers. Instead of talking about it, we just became resentful of each other to the point where we had one large, dramatic blowout over virtually nothing and never spoke again.
Resentment ruins all types of relationships. Once you let it get to that point, it's easier to just let it go, or have open and honest communication about how to work it out - and if it's worth it.
Is It Worth the Maintenance?
I used to have a friend that was really high-maintenance. She wanted to have long phone conversations (especially on her way home from work, whereas I was either still working or had just gotten in the car, which is my decompress zone) and would get upset when plans would change or when I wasn't able to reconfigure my life or responsibilities to fit her needs, even when I would offer up a solution. We hit the end when plans changed (as stated before, even when I offered up a solution) and she got upset. Neither one of us reached out after that, although, I sense we were drifting apart before that incident. It was just an easy way out for both of us without confrontation.
If someone is too much work and you don't have the capacity, it isn't worth it to keep them around. As good of a person as they are, it will just be a strain on your emotional well-being. Imagine being stressed out that your friend is going to be mad at you for not picking up the phone?
Is There Trust?
There are times in my life where I was not the most trustworthy friend, especially when I was younger. To be honest, there are probably too many examples to give because I spent a lot of my high school and early college years just trying to fit in. It's not an excuse, but a lot of times, I either wasn't honest with people or I would spill secrets because I just wanted to feel included or special with the people I was with.
This changed when I had someone do it back to me. Someone who was supposed to be my "best friend" was talking about me behind my back to a girl from high school who made my senior year pretty horrible. They were still talking, hanging out and, in fact, my "best friend" threw a dinner party one night that I was suddenly uninvited to because she invited this girl and she was coming. After this all unraveled, I realized that I needed to be better at gaining - and keeping - trust. If you knew the secrets I kept now, you would be amazed. But, I keep them because they are important to the people I care about.
If you can't trust your friend, what's the point? Your friend is supposed to be a sounding board for you, someone who is supposed to help you when things get tough, guide you, and frankly, tell it like it is, even when you don't want to hear it.
Are You Listening to Your Gut?
I'm not sure about you, but every time I meet someone, I try to pay attention to what my gut tells me. I have friends now that I know I won't be friends with later in life. I have people who I keep at an arm's length because even though we get along, I don't always like the vibe. I have friends that are amazing - I would bend over backwards for them and they would do the same for me - but I can only take them in small doses. And I have those people who I love absolutely and would trust with anything. Sometimes I feel the connection instantly, sometimes it takes awhile.
Listen to what your gut is telling you. If you feel like someone doesn't fit in your life anymore, then they simply don't fit. Do what you can to minimize the hurt - maybe not cut them out completely at first, but definitely take a step back - but ultimately you have to do what's best for you.
6 Tips For Scoring Upgrades When You Travel
Ah, upgrades. On vacation, there aren't many words sweeter to hear than "We would like to offer you a complimentary oceanfront room" or "We bumped you up to first class." They might not happen often, but when they do, it's glorious. Luckily, you don't have to be an international businessperson or celebrity to hear those magic words. While it's not a perfect science, there are steps you can take to increase your chances of scoring a better room or airplane seat on your next trip. We tapped travel experts to spill their best secrets for operation upgrade, so keep reading to see them all now.
If You Always Get the "Storage Almost Full" Message on Your Phone, You Need to Read This
If you're an iPhone user, chances are the following may have happened to you probably one too many times: you're busy scrolling through Instagram or downloading an app when this dreaded "Storage Almost Full" prompt pops up - or the even worse, "Not Enough Storage." Maybe you're like me and you quickly hit one of the two: "Done" and "Not Now," and put off dealing with iCloud storage yet another day. But what do you do when you finally want to face the iCloud storage dilemma head on?
Turns out managing the cloud is much simpler than you may think. First, you can better manage your iCloud storage by checking to see how much space you may have available to use. To do this, if you're using iOs 10.3 or later, go to Settings, tap on your name, choose iCloud, and select either iCloud Storage or Manage Storage. If you're using iOs 10.2 or earlier, all you have to do is go to Settings, tap iCloud, then tap Storage. When you set up iCloud, you're automatically given five GB of storage and are given the option to purchase more, too. Plans begin at 50 GB and cost $0.99 per month. If you choose a 200 GB or two TB plan, you can share your storage with family, which is a pretty good deal (unless someone downloads everything and takes up way too much space).
However, you can also manage your storage better by easily creating more room in your iCloud account. For instance, you can do this by going through your phone and deleting content you may not need any more - this could be old texts, photos, apps, videos, and emails. It's also important to remember that image or file attachments that are found in text messages also take up room, so be sure to delete those if you have no use for them any more. People may also forget that apps automatically get backed up to iCloud once they're downloaded. To help minimize the amount of room apps and their memory take up, go to Settings and manually choose which apps you would like backed up to iCloud.
Another great tip for freeing up more iCloud storage space is by minimizing the sizing of photos you may have on your device. You can do this by going to Settings and turning on Optimize Storage. By doing this, your phone frees up space by replacing original photos and videos with more storage efficient, device-sized versions. Don't worry though, your full-sized photos and videos will still be backed up in iCloud and are available to download at any time.
Getting that notification may be intimidating and annoying (is it really almost full?), but it doesn't have to be. With a quick visit to Settings and a few taps of your iPhone screen, you'll be able to download more apps and take more videos in Snapchat in no time.

I Haven’t Moved My Forehead in 14 Years, and It’s the Best Anti-Wrinkle Trick Ever
Please join me on a brief journey back in time. The year is 2005, and I'm a fledgling beauty assistant at Lucky Magazine (RIP) just trying to figure out how to book car service and program my boss's Palm Pilot (a lot has changed in the last decade and a half).
Botox has only been FDA-approved for aesthetic treatments since 2002, and it's all anybody can talk about - the miracle injection that stops your forehead muscles from making repetitive movements, thereby smoothing (and maybe even preventing!) lines. Everybody wants it. I start booking my boss to see a top NYC dermatologist every three months, and within a few weeks she looked 10 years younger. This sh*t works.
If I can just stop moving my forehead on my own, I'll never get wrinkles and never need to get botulinum toxin injections in the first place.
As I'm learning about the technology, I have an epiphany: If I can just stop moving my forehead on my own, I'll never get wrinkles and never need to get botulinum toxin injections in the first place. Hyperbolic? Yes. But stay with me. It's a simple strategy, really, but easier said than done. In fact, as a kid, I had a repertoire of silly scrunched faces I made on command - "piggy face" being my most-requested. But with some self-awareness and sticktoitiveness, I decide I'll change the way I use my facial muscles.
I start by focusing on my eyebrows and make a conscious effort not to raise them up and down when I talk. Next, I tackle specific faces I make in certain situations (think grimacing while running and squinting looking at the computer, neither of which is forehead-friendly). I hold my forehead in place with the palm of my hand while typing out an assignment with the other. After a few months, it's second nature. And I don't know whether it's because forehead movement isn't actually necessary to be expressive or because foreheads all around me are becoming less and less mobile thanks to dermatologists, but nobody says anything about my new wax figure-like state.
Fast forward 14 years, and a lot has changed . . . except my forehead. I have a couple thin lines on either side because I could never figure out a way to put on eyeliner or mascara without moving my eyebrows, but I'm overall happy with how my strategy panned out. I've managed to avoid the dreaded "eleven" lines (the ones that form between your brows from squinting), and even though I've tried "baby tox," it's not a regular part of my beauty routine. The best part? Dermatologists actually agree with my strategy.
"Repetitive facial expressions [mean] muscles are contracting over and over," says NYC dermatologist Ellen Marmur (my personal go-to). "This can definitely create unwanted wrinkles over time. Each muscle movement creates a groove in the skin . . . It's like the skin has memory, and the creases get deeper and deeper."
And it gets even better: Dr. Marmur says if you can stop certain habits like frowning or squinting, you can prevent (or at least slow down) the formation of forehead lines. (And she agrees that eye makeup-application wrinkles are real!)
Now, if you don't think you can put my technique into practice without a little help, Dr. Marmur suggests preventative use of Botox (or Xeomin, Dysport or Jeauveau, which all have the same FDA indication). "I'm convinced by my patients and my own use over time that when the muscles can't contract you're not creating new wrinkles," she says. And there you have it: the best validation for the anti-wrinkle trick I implemented 14 years ago - bet my boss wishes she thought of it herself.
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green Make a Rare (Yet Romantic) Appearance in LA
It's been a while since we've seen Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green out together, but we're glad to see they're still going strong! On Tuesday, the couple stepped out for a romantic date night in LA. The longtime pair kept things casual and held hands as they walked and chatted together. Megan and Brian tied the knot in Hawaii back in 2010, and despite their fair share of ups and downs, they're clearly committed to making their relationship work. The actors have three sons together, Journey, 2, Bodhi, 5, Noah, 6, while Brian also has a 16-year-old son named Kassius from a previous relationship.
Dove Cameron and Thomas Doherty Are So Obnoxiously Cute Together, I Can't Even Deal
You know those couples on Instagram that make you think, "Ugh, they are SO cute together!" when you see their lovey-dovey photos? Yeah, that would be Dove Cameron and Thomas Doherty. The couple first met on the set of their Disney Channel original movie Descendants 2 in 2016, and it didn't take long for an offscreen relationship to blossom. The two went public with their romance the following year and have been giving us adorable glimpses of their love on social media. Whether they're sharing a kiss on the red carpet or cuddling up on set, we can't help but swoon every time they post a photo. See some of their cutest moments ahead!
Pet Sematary: An Explanation For Every Twisted Thing That Happens in the Book
Warning: spoilers for Pet Sematary ahead!
The 2019 remake of Pet Sematary is now busy terrifying a whole new generation of Stephen King fans, but it's technically been giving people nightmares ever since the publication of King's horror novel back in 1983. The modern take on the story follows the same basic story, but it still makes a few shocking changes to its source material. If you're curious about how King's book ends rather than the new twist on the story, we're here to break things down for you. Let's get spooky, shall we?
The Set-Up
The book begins by introducing us to Louis Creed, a doctor and father of two from Chicago who gets a job opportunity to be director of the University of Maine's campus health service. He and his wife Rachel leap at the opportunity for a more easygoing life and more time to spend with their young kids, Ellie and Gage, and move the family (along with Ellie's cat, Church) to a sprawling rural home in the small town of Ludlow.
Despite the relaxing setting, the family encounters a number of troubling instances right off the bat: Ellie falls off a swing and hurts her knee and little Gage gets stung by a bee. Their neighbor, Jud Crandall, also comes by and warns them that the highway that runs past their house is frequented by tractor trailers that are constantly zooming by at dangerous speeds. (What every parent wants in a home!)
Although Jud comes off as a little quirky, he and Louis strike up a friendship (Louis lost his father as a very young boy, so there's a bit of a father figure dynamic going on). Their bond hits a snag, however, when Jud takes Louis and his kids on a walk in the woods behind their home to show them an eerie pet cemetery (spelled "pet sematary" since it was painted by kids in town) and Rachel freaks out - she argues with Louis that their kids shouldn't be exposed to death so explicitly at their age, and worries that Ellie might be traumatized by what she saw at the cemetery. Rachel lost her own sister when she was little and never recovered from the trauma, and is scared to see her daughter go through something similar.

Louis begins to experience strange supernatural phenomena after a college student, Victor, dies from horrific injuries at his hospital. He dreams of Victor's ghost leading him through the woods, where he warns Louis that he shouldn't go beyond the border of the pet cemetery, "no matter how much you feel you need to." Louis also begins sleepwalking through the woods, waking up with mud and pine needles all over his feet.
On Halloween, Jud's wife Norma suffers a heart attack, but is saved by Louis's quick treatment. To repay Louis for his actions, Jud offers to take Louis to the pet cemetery a month later when Church is run over. But rather than bury Church's body there, Jud takes him "beyond," just as Victor warned Louis about, to the "real" cemetery that was once used by a tribe of Native Americans, the Micmacs, who later fled to escape the Wendigo they claimed lived there. The corpses of whatever is buried in this specific plot of land will come back to life within a day, only they act much more aggressive, meaner, evil, or even display cannibalistic traits.
Jud hoped that Church might escape that fate, but he indeed comes back as a vicious, reeking, angry shell of his former self. (Jud Crandall, Worse Friend of All Time.) Louis wishes he never buried Church there to begin with, but that all changes when 2-year-old Gage dies after being hit by a truck on the road by their home.
The Ending
Drowning in grief, Louis decides to use the burial ground to bring his son back to life, even though Jud warns him not to. Apparently the last human being who was buried there, Timmy Baterman, came back as a malevolent monster, terrorizing the people of Ludlow. Eventually his father was forced to kill Timmy, and then himself. Jud explains that Timmy might have looked like himself, but that a "demon" had possessed his corpse ("Sometimes, dead is better). He also hints that whatever hellish power fuels the burial ground might have had a hand in orchestrating Gage's death.
Louis carries out his plan regardless, but the Gage that returns to the world of the living is demonic, aggressive, and speaks with a different voice. Despite his small size, he's also able to carry out the bloody, gruesome deaths of both Jud and Rachel. Louis finally realizes the error he's made (DUH, dude!) and injects Gage with chemicals from his medical bag, killing his son once and for all. He celebrates by . . . burning Jud's house down and BURYING HIS WIFE'S BODY IN THE EVIL CEMETERY, TOO. Come on, Louis.
Related: There's a Surprisingly Simple (but Still Creepy) Reason Why Pet Sematary Is Spelled That Way
Because Louis apparently has no brain at all, he thinks that burying his wife's corpse right away will have a different effect on things; that she might return more like herself. Making matters worse is that while all of this has been going on, the land appears to be sapping the energy from Louis, leaving him with white hair and wrinkles. A curious colleague decides to investigate by following him into the woods, but flees in terror after hearing what Louis plans to do.
The story wraps up with Louis calmly playing cards back in the house with his back to the door, as Rachel's corpse walks in and places a hand on his shoulder before saying in a scratchy, raspy voice, "Darling."
How the Ending of the 2019 Remake Compares
We won't spoil too much about how the new film ends for you here, but since it was in the movie's trailer, we will say that directors Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer decided to switch out Ellie and Gage's fates. That results in a lot more bloodshed, since 9-year-old Ellie is more physically capable of wielding a scalpel and butcher knife than her 2-year-old brother. That twist, coupled with a number of other interesting (and straight-up bleak) tweaks to King's original horror tale, makes for an ending that's far more depressing than the book - if that's even possible.

41 Gorgeous and Unique Names For Babies Born in 2019
As someone with a unique name, I have a few guidelines for choosing uncommon names - if you're thinking of choosing one for your child, it should be easy enough to read and pronounce for most people, otherwise it can be a little isolating for your child to have to reintroduce themselves a million times or suffer through handfuls of misspellings and mispronunciations. That said, a unique name will set your child apart from the kids in their classes with popular trendy names and give them an edge.
Ahead, our favorite unique names for babies in 2019 - for both boys and girls.
Why Is Pet Sematary Spelled Like That? There's a Simple, but Creepy Answer
As an entertainment journalist, there are certain movie and TV series titles that make my job harder than others. Jordan Peele's recently released Us, for example. (And This Is Us, for that matter.) Netflix's You is another one. Despite being short and simple, it makes writing headlines a little bit of a pain. But the latest contender is annoying for a reason that should become immediately clear as soon as you lay eyes on it: Pet Sematary. Why, oh why, is it spelled like that?!
The 2019 reboot of Stephen King's classic, terrifying story - which was first published in 1983 and adapted for the big screen in 1989 - is now in theaters. Which means that it's now all over social media, in giant headlines on ads in the city where I live, and plastered all over freaky commercials that will keep me awake for a week straight (at least). But in addition to being creeped out by all the screeching cats and zombie children, the heinous spelling of "cemetery" is also enough to give me chills. In order to explain why King opted for an unorthodox spelling, I need to shade in a few of the plot details for you.
The horror film follows Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who moves into a sprawling rural home in Ludlow, ME, with his wife, Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children, 8-year-old Ellie (Jeté Laurence) and toddler Gage (twins Hugo Lavoie and Lucas Lavoie). Not long after they arrive, their neighbor Jud Crandall (John Lithgow) informs them about the eerie pet cemetery located in the woods bordering their home, which isn't your average burial place for beloved cats and dogs. Instead, when dead pets are buried on a plot of land just beyond the pet cemetery in the woods (which used to be a burial ground for the Micmac tribe), sometimes they come back, albeit in a much more aggressive, evil, zombie-like state.
Even though the Creeds live on the land, kids from Ludlow have no problem roaming freely as they perform burial rites for their deceased pets (they wear animal masks, beat a drum, and a ton of other stuff that will make you never want to procreate). If you've read any of King's work, then you know that creepy children are a trope that he loves to infuse his stories with, from The Shining to Children of the Corn. The film doesn't really get into this, but he expands more on the band of kids who use the cemetery more in his novel.
When the kids in town discovered that the land brought their pets back to life, they took a bit of ownership of the graveyard and continued the tradition of covering their pets in the soil there over the years. In the story, the burial ground full of necromantic power is able to revive animals such as bulls, cats (RIP Church!), and dogs. The remake's version of Jud mentions that his childhood dog Biffer (who was "a hell of a sniffer") was buried there, but came back far meaner and more aggressive than he was before, leading to his father putting him down (again).
In King's novel, a soldier named Timmy Baterman is buried in the cemetery by his grieving father, and comes back possessed by the Wendigo - the demon who possess the cemetery. Jud and other townspeople beg Timmy's father to kill his reanimated son, which he eventually does before taking his own life.
Because these young kids became the cemetery's caretakers, so to speak, they're also the ones who wrote the sign that reads "Pet Sematary" - the spelling error can simply be chalked up to the fact that a young child who doesn't have a perfect handle on the English language is the one who painted it.
What's even more interesting is King's connection to a pet cemetery he encountered in his own life. The author has said the inspiration for this story came from real life, which he explains in the forward of later editions of his book. Fresh off the success of Carrie, the author was invited to be a writer in residence and professor at the University of Maine at Orono in the late 1970s, which also happens to be his alma mater. He promptly moved his family to a rural home in Orrington, MI, that abutted a road that frequently had big trucks zooming by. As a result several lives of the local pets were claimed, and the kids established a pet cemetery in the woods. According to King, he visited it and saw that it really was marked by sign that read "Pet Sematary."
So, in short, even though my eye twitches every time I read it, I can totally understand why King chose to go with that spelling. (It doesn't mean I can forgive him for all the nightmares he's left me with after seeing Pet Sematary, but I digress.)

Hannah Brown Ditches Her Pageant Past to Find "Fierce Love" in The Bachelorette Trailer
Hannah Brown is getting another shot at finding her fierce love, and this time, she's not letting any labels get in her way.
ABC dropped the first promo for Brown's upcoming season of The Bachelorette on Friday morning, and it's obvious that the former beauty queen is taking her new role in stride. The fairy tale-themed trailer has Brown dressed like a modern-day Cinderella in a light blue jumpsuit with a dazzling attached skirt, a sash, and a tiara (a nod to Brown's past as Miss Alabama 2018) to top it off. But as she struts through a forest of trees and red roses bloom in her wake, Brown sheds the skirt, tiara, and sash, with Grace's cover of Lesley Gore's 1963 hit song "You Don't Own Me" playing in the background.
"Think you know her? Think again," the video reads.
Talk about sending a message! Hannah is clearly stepping out of the preconceived notions fans may have of her from The Bachelor mansion, where she unsuccessfully vied for Colton Underwood's heart last season. We've already gotten a few sneak peeks at what we can expect from Hannah's season, and we've met her first five suitors (one who already got a rose!). This trailer has us even more excited to see where Hannah's journey takes her when The Bachelorette premieres on May 13!

The Real Legend of the Wendigo in Pet Sematary Is Actually Pretty Terrifying
Warning: spooky spoilers for Pet Sematary ahead!
Stephen King's Pet Sematary has returned to the big screen, and the 2019 reboot of the terrifying story - which King originally published in 1983 and was also adapted in a 1989 film - makes a few big updates to its source material. But for the most part, it's a faithful retelling of the core story, down to the chilling inclusion of an ancient creature known as the Wendigo.
If you're familiar with King's book or the new horror film, then you know that the story follows the Creed family as they move from Boston to a big farmhouse on a sprawling, 50-acre piece of land in the small town of Ludlow. Unfortunately their property includes the cursed "pet sematary," where kids from Ludlow perform creepy burial rites for their deceased pets (they wear animal masks, beat a drum, and a ton of other stuff that will make you never want to procreate).
As the patriarch of the Creeds, Louis (Jason Clarke) is tasked with burying his daughter Ellie's beloved cat, Church, after it gets hit by a tractor trailer just beyond their driveway. His neighbor Jud (John Lithgow), a lifelong Ludlow resident, takes him aside and fills him in on a little nugget of eerie history about the Creeds's new property: if you walk into the woods beyond the pet sematary and bury your dead pet in a certain plot of land, the animal will return. (It will be an extremely f*cked up, angry, mean version of your pet, which Jud conveniently neglects to tell Louis.)
So, what fuels the dark magic of the land? According to Jud, Native Americans used to occupy the land but eventually fled to escape the hellish presence of the Wendigo. In both Pet Sematary and in The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, King features the primal demon as an antagonist, of sorts, and explains that it haunted the Algonquian tribe, as well as the Micmacs and others. It's also responsible for cursing the land that now brings things back from the dead.
The Origins of the Wendigo
The Wendigo hails from legends of the Algonquin-speaking peoples: the Ojibwe, the Saulteaux, the Cree, the Naskapi, and the Innu. It's sometimes depicted in legends as a tall, hunched over, moose or deer-like creature with huge antlers that stands on two feet. Sometimes its body is rotted away, exposing its bones and innards, and other times it's seen as more of a blurry black shadow. It is also said to appear as a monster with humanoid characteristics, or merely as a spirit that possesses an actual human and makes them engage in similarly evil, monstrous behavior.
The mythical creature would devour humans and animals, and was native to the northeastern forests of North America, stretching all the way up from the United States into Canada. The Wendigo is historically associated with traits and themes like murder, overwhelming greed, cannibalism, and environmental destruction.
What Does the Wendigo Have to Do With Pet Sematary?
As legend has it, the Wendigo inhabited the north east all the way up to Canada, and was able to command any living creature in its domain (or at least have a strong influence over it). In King's stories, the creature eventually encountered the Micmac burial ground in Maine, which would eventually become part of the town of Ludlow.
In Pet Sematary, it's explained that the Wendigo cursed the Micmac burial ground that the Creeds eventually live on, making sure that any corpse laid to rest in the soil there would reanimate within a day as a murderous, evil shell of their former self. (And sometimes, they'd become cannibals.) Unsurprisingly, the Micmac tribe abandoned Ludlow.
The burial ground full of necromantic power is able to revive animals such as bulls, cats (RIP Church!), and dogs. Jud mentions that his childhood dog Biffer (who was "a hell of a sniffer") was buried there, but came back far meaner and more aggressive than he was before, leading to his father putting him down (again). In King's novel, a soldier named Timmy Baterman is buried in the Micmac cemetery by his grieving father, and comes back possessed by the Wendigo. Jud and other townspeople beg Timmy's father to kill his reanimated son, which he eventually does before taking his own life.
In the 2019 remake, the Wendigo isn't featured as prominently as in the book. It's mentioned briefly by Jud during a chat with Louis as they page through a book about Native American legends around their part of Maine, and can be heard roaring in the woods as they take Church's body to the burial ground. It roars again when Louis carries his daughter's dead body there, too, and he stares through the woods and seems to glimpse a shadow of the creature. It never fully appears onscreen in the flesh, though.
The Wendigo in Other Pieces of Pop Culture
The Wendigo is a well-known legend, and thus has inspired fear in writers and artists all over the world. For instance, the demon appears in Marvel comics written by Steve Englehart (drawn by artist Herb Trimpe), and is seen as the twisted result of a curse that attaches itself to cannibals. It even goes head-to-head with the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk #162, as well as Wolverine.
On screen, creatures based on the Wendigo legend have appeared in films like Dark Was the Night and Ravenous. TV series that have a supernatural bent have also made use of its infamy, like Grimm, Charmed, and Supernatural. Notably the character of Will Graham sees it in a number of dreams in the TV adaptation of Hannibal, where the Wendigo symbolizes the cannibalistic habits of the show's titular character.
Does Shazam! Have a Postcedits Scene? Here's a Spoiler-Free Guide
The most pleasantly surprising thing about Shazam! is probably that it's so much funnier, smarter, and more charming than you think it is. From cracks about "suitcase wedgies" and star Zachary Levi's energetic performance to a villain (Mark Strong) who is allowed to be genuinely terrifying, the superhero film is a deeply entertaining watch from start to finish. What's probably not at all surprising, however, is the fact that, yes, like many other films in the superhero genre before it, Shazam! has a postcredits scene. Actually, it has two!
Once the movie wraps up, you'll get to enjoy an animated credits sequence that involves doodles, toy cars, and other fun imagery from the film. After that finishes, things transition into a midcredits scene involving one of the main characters from the movie that helps to set up a sequel. It's an interesting scene to leave off on, and gives us hope that a Shazam! franchise comes to fruition. After all - we desperately need more one-liners from Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) in our lives.
The other bonus scene plays after all the credits have crawled by. Like a lot of Marvel movies, the postcredits scene is jokey and far less serious, essentially functioning to wink at another popular DC superhero. So, make sure you stay until the very end if you're in the mood for another laugh.

9 Major Reasons to Love Meghan Markle (If You Don't Already)
Meghan Markle got her first taste of the spotlight as a Hollywood actress, but it wasn't until she began dating Prince Harry that she truly captured my attention. Given my longtime crush on Harry, I was admittedly a little taken back when I first found out about their romance and had a lot of questions, like, "Who is this woman? And what are her intentions with Harry?" However, it quickly became clear why he fell for her. Aside from her undeniable beauty, Meghan has a passion for helping others and she believes in fighting for what's right, just like Harry! She also has a way with kids, and don't even get me started on her bond with her mom, Doria Ragland - they're so cute! Yep, I really can't think of a better match for Harry!
To make matters even sweeter, the royal couple are just weeks away from becoming parents, and I'm so excited for them. As we all await the arrival of baby Sussex, allow me and my fellow POPSUGAR editors to count all the ways we love Meghan!
Leslie Jones Forces Kit Harington to Reenact Game of Thrones Scenes in Hilarious SNL Promo
Kit Harington is making his Saturday Night Live debut this weekend, just one week before the final season of Game of Thrones premieres on HBO. Naturally, we've been expecting that the comedy show would milk the event for all its worth with a few Westeros-themed sketches, but thankfully we don't have to wait until Saturday night to see a preview of them.
On Wednesday, NBC released a minute-and-a-half-long teaser for the upcoming episode, which features GoT superfan and SNL cast member Leslie Jones in costume as iconic characters that have appeared throughout the series. Hodor? The Shame Nun? Daenerys? Viserion?! She nails them all, and even gets a little help from Harington himself.
Watch the teaser above before Harington's episode airs this weekend!
April Showers Bring May Flowers . . . AND This Ridiculously Cute Baby Shower
When Brenna was expecting her baby last May, she chose to have an "April Showers Bring May Flowers"-themed baby shower, and the results were absolutely breathtaking! While the theme was a clever pun on the month of her due date, the incorporation of "May flowers" made the entire party space so pretty we can't stop staring at these photos. Flowers decorated every surface and transformed the home into a kaleidoscope of colors. In addition to flowers, her home was decorated with water droplets, umbrellas, and watering cans, which all worked together beautifully for the sweet baby shower theme.
Brenna even had some fun and creative baby shower games that everyone enjoyed. "With both my sister and her husband's initials being the same, (BK), we decide to play a game of bingo using random BK names . . . even though they had no intention of naming their child with a BK name," said Delaney Dobson, the photographer who captured this lovely baby shower, who also happens to be Brenna's sister. "We served delicious appetizers, springtime Moscow mules, and a delectable array of desserts. The guests departed with little watering cans filled with baby's breath."
See if you can spot all the thematic details in this uniquely adorable baby shower!
This Is the Most Effective Way to Ease the Pain of Period Cramps, According to Doctors
Many women's periods are accompanied by painful cramps that range from mild to moderate to severe. Luckily there are plenty of over-the-counter pain relievers on the shelf of every supermarket and drugstore, all of which promise to treat everything from fevers to backaches to period cramps. But while it's tempting to grab the first one you spot, doctors say not all OTC pain relievers are created equal when it comes to easing that miserable menstrual pain.
First, let's back up a minute to discuss the cause of period cramps. "The endometrium (tissue that lines the uterus) produces chemicals known as prostaglandins," Kecia Gaither, MD, MPH, FACOG, a board-certified ob-gyn, told POPSUGAR. "These substances cause the uterine muscle to contract and expel the uterine lining each month during menstruation, [which causes] the cramps that women feel." Additionally, these prostaglandins can cause the stomach upset associated with menses. (Aren't periods fun?)
Because this is the cause, the consensus among doctors is that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) are the most effective way to combat period cramps. "NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, are helpful during this time because ibuprofen is what we call a nonselective inhibitor of an enzyme called cyclooxygenase (COX)," explained ob-gyn Natasha Chinn, MD, FACOG. In layman's terms, this means that it blocks the enzyme COX, which is needed to form prostaglandins. "Therefore, blocking COX decreases the levels of prostaglandins in the body," Dr. Chinn said.
Dr. Gaither agreed, noting that NSAIDs act to block the production of these prostaglandins and effectively decrease the pain of uterine contractions. So did William F. Lee, MD, FACOG, who told POPSUGAR that NSAIDs are the first line treatment for dysmenorrhea, and while "there are a few different types of NSAIDS, all have been shown to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis."
So there you have it - when it's time to take an OTC pain reliever for your period cramps, make sure it's an NSAID. There are plenty to choose from: the brands to look for on the shelf include aspirin, Motrin, Advil, and Aleve.

I Went on 30 Dates in 30 Days, and Here's What Happened
"Who has time to find that many guys to go out with?" Rayna Greenberg and Ashley Hesseltine mused as we sipped coffees in the West Village last Fall. The duo hosts the hilarious podcast, Girls Gotta Eat, which is full of raw and relevant humor that hits on exactly what it's like to be a single millennial lady in New York City. At the time I was interviewing them for an article on dating trends in 2019 and simultaneously contemplating a move from San Francisco to New York. I asked them about dating experiments and they shared an idea they had to challenge themselves to 30 dates in 30 days, that they ultimately decided was more trouble than it was worth.
Challenge accepted, I thought to myself.
This comedy duo's throwaway idea piqued my interest. I imagined this was a great way to get to know a new city, hit the ground running on my romantic life in the New Year, and test my dating prowess. I knew I could do it on my home turf, but could I possibly find 30 eligible bachelors to date in my first month in a new city?
With only one way to find out, I decided to make the move official. I landed in Manhattan and started the clock immediately. It wasn't easy, it was only sometimes fun, and it turns out, Rayna and Ashley were right to scrap this idea. By the end, I was exhausted, disillusioned, and considered swearing off dating altogether, but the important thing is, I made it. Here's what happened.
Charlize Theron Is "Shockingly Available," Wants Somebody to "Grow a Pair" and Ask Her Out
If you're sexy and single yet nobody asks you out, you're not alone. In fact, you're in the same boat as Charlize Theron! While promoting her upcoming film Long Shot in Las Vegas on Thursday, the stunning and statuesque Oscar winner announced that not only is she "shockingly available," but that she's also disappointed that someone hasn't had the courage to change that. "I've been single for 10 years, it's not a long shot," Charlize told Entertainment Tonight at CinemaCon. "Somebody just needs to grow a pair and step up." At that point, her Long Shot costar Seth Rogen chimed in. "She's shockingly available. She's out there," he added, to which Charlize insisted that she's "made it very clear."
The actress and mother of two was last linked to Sean Penn; they called off their engagement in June 2015 after two years together. Prior to that, Charlize was in an eight-year relationship with actor Stuart Townsend. Most recently, she was rumored to be dating newly single Brad Pitt - and even though the reports were shot down, I still think they'd make a great couple. Here's hoping that someone gets brave enough to ask Charlize out!

Adam Sandler started out his career as a writer and cast member on Saturday Night Live in the '90s, but he hasn't actually hosted the show - until now. On Friday, SNL announced that Sandler will host on May 4 with musical guest Shawn Mendes. Show creator Lorne Michaels commented on the news in a press release, saying, "We are happy to welcome Adam back to SNL in what is sure to be a special night," Vulture reported. It's hard to believe the king of funny rom-coms hasn't taken center stage in an episode of his own, but we're excited to see what he has up his sleeve.

The actor released a comedy special on Netflix last October called 100% Fresh, which features his signature singing-meets-stand-up style. He recently announced a follow-up tour, 100% Fresher, and he also stars in an upcoming Netflix movie, Murder Mystery, with Jennifer Aniston.

Oreo Is Releasing a New Flavor Inspired by the Best Ice Cream Flavor of All Time
It is a widely accepted truth that mint chocolate chip is the best ice cream flavor, and soon you'll be able to enjoy it in Oreo form. Baskin Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip Oreos are reportedly hitting shelves sometime this year, and they are not messing around. There's a layer of chocolate creme and a layer of mint-flavored creme studded with chocolate chips, which is all sandwiched between two original chocolate cookies. The news was first rumored in late 2018, and now snack-focused Instagrammers like Junk Banter have gotten their hands on an early package. There's no official release date yet, but here's hoping these taste just as good as the Oreos inspired by strawberry shortcake ice cream bars.

Beer Candy, Anyone? These Jelly Beans Are All About Flavor - Without Any of the Alcohol!
Just when we thought you'd seen every flavor of jelly bean imaginable, we find out that Jelly Belly has been selling entire cans of beer-flavored jelly beans - and they're nonalcoholic! That's right, you can have your beer flavor (and candy) without any hangover symptoms. Each Draft Beer Jelly Bean 1.75-ounce can ($5) is filled with five small bags of jelly beans, which have a shimmery finish that mimics a bubbly, freshly poured look. So cool!
You can also mix up a fun "drink" in your mouth with any combination of jelly beans you like. Jelly Belly recommends eating two draft beer beans with one peach-flavored bean for a summery sangria taste, or swapping the peach for a red apple jelly bean to recreate the flavors of an apple shandy. If you're feeling really adventurous, try two draft beer beans with a lemon-lime bean and a Tabasco jelly bean for a candy-based Michelada in your mouth. The possibilities are endless.
Keep reading for a glimpse at the beer-flavored jelly beans and for a look at how to open the (reusable!) faux beer can.
