Love Game of Thrones? OkCupid Will Now Let You Prove It With a Badge on Your Profile
Winter is coming soon, and so is a potential new love interest if you're serious about a new app feature that OkCupid just introduced. For the people out there who think having a partner who doesn't share an interest in Game of Thrones is a deal-breaker, the dating app recently rolled out a feature that will allow users who watch the HBO drama to display badges on their profiles that say so. What a time to be alive.
According to a post on OkCupid's official blog, the idea was inspired by the over two million mentions of the show on user profiles. Because of people's interest in bonding over discussing who should sit on the Iron Throne, OkCupid also introduced GoT-related prompts for users to respond to when they initially make their profiles.
"We're so excited to be the first dating app to match people on their favorite TV show - starting with Game of Thrones," Melissa Hobley, OkCupid's chief marketing officer, said in a statement. "We're all about matching on what matters - and what matters to millions of people around the world is what they're watching."
Game of Thrones officially returns on April 14, and if you're looking for someone to watch the final season premiere with, you're definitely gonna want to take advantage of this. Read ahead to get a peek at how the badges will look in action.

Forgot Your iPhone Passcode? Here’s How to Get Back In
It happens to the best of us - you grab your iPhone to check your email or scroll through Instagram, but your brain completely blanks when it comes to your passcode. You've typed it in hundreds of times before, but having what seems like a million passwords for every site, portal, bank account, and channel can sometimes make them all melt into each other. Yikes! So what do you do?
Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you're worried about your phone falling into the wrong hands), Apple hasn't made it easy to get around a forgotten passcode. In order to get back into your phone, you need to perform a restore, which erases all the data on the phone, including photos (this is why backing up data on your phone is so essential!). If everything is backed up, which you can do through iTunes or by paying for Apple's iCloud service, your phone will look just like it did before the restore.
When you're ready to perform a restore, here's how:
- Connect your phone to your computer.
- Open (or download and then open) iTunes.
- While the device is connected, do a force restart (for iPhone 8 and iPhone X, this is done by pressing then quickly releasing the volume up button, pressing then quickly releasing the volume down button, then pressing and holding the side button until you see the recovery-mode screen).
- On your computer, you'll see the option to update or restore. Choose restore.
And voila! Your phone is back in service and you'll (hopefully) never forget your password again.
This Handy Little Trick Lets You Take Photos on Your iPhone Even When Your Storage Is Full
Raise your hand if this has happened to you at least once: you're at an exciting event or spending time with friends, you go to snap a quick photo, and you're greeted with one of the most annoying iPhone prompts ever - "iPhone Storage Full." You frantically go through your camera roll and delete old selfies and the thousands of candid photos you have of your sleeping pet to make some extra room. But it's too late - by the time you're able to take a photo, the moment has already passed.
Well, what if there was a trick to taking more photos on your iPhone even when it tells you its storage is full? As it turns out, there is an easy way to remedy this (if you don't have extra time to delete old content, that is). All you have to do is open up one of your social media apps - could be Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, click on the camera icon, and take a photo. The image will then be automatically saved to your camera roll - pretty great, right?
Of course, if you want to avoid getting the "iPhone Storage Full" message repeatedly, you're going to have to manage your iPhone storage so that it can free up more space, which isn't as complicated as it sounds.
I Was in an Emotionally Abusive Relationship, and I Didn't Even Realize It
At 23 years old, I fell fast and hard for an outgoing, charismatic man. When we began dating, he made me feel special, beautiful, and loved. I decided that any negative aspect of our relationship didn't matter because he loved me so much - there was a reasonable explanation for all of it. So when he proposed to me after almost a year of dating, I was overjoyed. I found a guy who wanted to commit his life to me. We were going to build a future together.
Six months into our engagement, that image of our life crumbled to pieces. My fiancé decided that he didn't want to marry me anymore, and it felt like a tragedy. I dreaded telling my friends and family; I was devastated. But their reactions to my news were not what I expected at all. One friend broke into tears. Another told me she was proud of me. My family felt guilty that they had let the relationship progress as much as it did.
They were relieved that my engagement to this man was over. Everyone had been scared for me, and I didn't get why. I was confused.
Everyone had been scared for me, and I didn't get why. I was confused.
This was the worst thing that had ever happened to me, wasn't it? But then, loved ones started telling me of times when they wish they had said something to me. Times when my fiancé would put me down or yell at me in public. And as more people stepped forward and told me that ending this relationship was a good thing (including this guy's own close friends), I came to a horrifying realization.
I was emotionally abused, and I could not admit to myself that it was happening at the time.
There were glimmers of problems from the beginning of our relationship, but I made the choice to ignore them. He would say little things to me or shout for a moment, but I brushed it off. It didn't become bad until we moved in together a month after our engagement.
My friends only saw what was happening in front of them, but behind closed doors it was even worse.
The first memory I have of definitive emotional abuse was an evening just a week or two after we moved into our apartment. We were sitting at the bar below our place having a drink when I noticed that he was getting Snapchats from a girl he nicknamed Kate Upton in his phone. I had mentioned to him once before that this made me uncomfortable, so when I saw that she had popped up once again, I questioned him about it. And he became furious with me.
He immediately stomped up the stairs to our apartment, and I quickly followed behind. He was livid. He told me I was ridiculous and jealous for questioning if he would be inappropriately interacting with another girl. And I felt terrible that I would ever question him - we were getting married, after all.
But the more I cried and apologized, the more he screamed at me.
But the more I cried and apologized, the more he screamed at me. I began to have a panic attack and I melted down to the ground, curled up in a ball in the hallway. But instead of stopping the yelling, he stood over me and continued to scream. I started hyperventilating. He told me I was faking it and I was pathetic. After he finished the shouting, he walked away from me. We were silent for about 20 minutes, then we got into bed and went to sleep. The next morning, he said he was sorry, but I needed to calm down with my emotions. So in the end, I was the one apologizing for what transpired the night before.
This was not a one-time thing. There were many more fights like this. And in the end I was always the one made to feel guilty. How dare I ever question him - he proposed to me. How could I do that to him? I was disgusted with myself for doubting him on a regular basis. I told myself that it was my anxiety making me paranoid.
But the screaming wasn't the only problem. This man would criticize me, put me down, and make me feel small constantly. If he didn't like something I was wearing, he would make sure I knew it. He told me I wasn't very funny and he didn't get why my friends laughed at me. He would constantly belittle me for being clumsy. I was afraid to spill something in front of him.
Another problem entirely was his lack of respect for people close to him. I watched him yell at his family on a regular basis over the tiniest things. He started off being incredibly close with my parents (they even helped him pick out my engagement ring), but as soon as we started planning the wedding, everything changed.
I started gaining weight. I became very quiet at work. I saw less of my friends. I felt bad about myself, but I didn't understand why. Wedding planning was not fun; I found it stressful. Like always, I told myself it was all in my head.
He had a lot of opinions about how he envisioned our wedding should be, and if my parents or I had a differing opinion, he was angry about it. We weren't putting a dime of our own money into the big day, so I felt weird about his resentment toward any ideas other than his own. When I tried to tell him that, he would tell me I was wrong. "Don't you love me because I have a lot of opinions?" he would say.
He stopped visiting my family with me. When I mentioned my parents, he would make snide remarks about them. I stopped talking about them altogether because it made me uncomfortable. My family loved me, and all they were trying to do was give us a dream wedding.
I loved this guy so much that I didn't care how I was feeling on the inside.
I loved this guy so much that I didn't care how I was feeling on the inside. I would do anything for him, and he knew that. So when he told me he was unhappy in our relationship, I asked him what I could do to fix that. All he could say was that he didn't know.
Eventually he told me that proposing to me was a mistake, but he wanted me to stay with him to see if we could work things out. More specifically, if I could fix all the things that were "wrong with me." And I did stay for a while. I so desperately wanted him to wake up and realize that no woman would love him the way I did. But he went about every day like things were normal, and I woke up every morning filled with dread, unsure of my future.
I asked him what was going on with our relationship a couple times, and each time it would result in an intense fight where we would part ways and stay with our families for a night or two. He told me I was impossible to talk to because I was too emotional.
After a weekend without hearing from him, I texted him asking if we could meet at the apartment and talk. His response - "Why?" I told him we needed to figure out what was going on, and he told me it wasn't a good thing for him personally to talk to me. We ended things.
I said I was moving out, so he went through everything I owned and put it in the middle of the family room. "I hope I made it a little easier for you," he said. While I sat at my parents' house (my new temporary home) and cried for a week straight, I received texts and calls from all over town - people told me he was out drinking most nights with his friends. They were confused by his actions. It hurt.
He blocked me and my friends from every social media platform. But that didn't stop the awful screenshots of his tweets bragging about going out and joking about needing a wingman. Even his friends were not loyal to him because they knew he turned me into a shell of the person I used to be.
A week later, on top of everything I had just gone through, I learned that he was not faithful to me. He was sending all sorts of photos of his penis to another girl before we were even engaged. Several people who knew about the exchanges informed me, even providing physical proof that the "other girl" admitted to all of it.
When I confronted him and his parents about his infidelity (bravest thing I've ever done, by the way), he pulled me to the side and asked me why I was trying to ruin his life. "We're done, Macy," he shouted at me. "You're trying to cause drama."
But I wasn't trying to cause drama. For the first time in my life, I was standing up to him. He had made me feel so guilty for questioning him all this time. And that feeling in the pit of my stomach was right all along. After trying to protect him and our relationship for a year and a half of my life, I was done. I missed who I used to be. I missed being happy. I realized that I had dedicated a huge period of my life trying to make sure I didn't make someone mad, and I was exhausted.
Why am I telling you this story? Because I know there are other people out there like me. People who lose themselves in the name of love, even if that love isn't healthy. Nobody deserves to be screamed at. Nobody deserves to be berated. I didn't understand that before, but I certainly know it now.
I was so scared to write about my experience, but now I feel empowered by it.
I was so scared to write about my experience, but now I feel empowered by it. I wanted to protect my former fiancé because a part of me still loves him, but I'm finished doing that now. I am trying to remind myself that yes, I am smart, funny, and strong. I didn't feel like I was any of those things for a long time. I'm having a hard time telling myself that now, but I will believe it again soon.
If you feel like you're being emotionally abused, trust your gut. Don't make excuses for it like I did. Learn from me. Talk to someone you trust. You may feel like you can't live without your partner, but you can. It will hurt. I'm still hurting every single day. But little by little, you will find yourself again. You won't believe you lived the way you did because of how happy you are now. And you will be stronger for it.

5 Ways an Instant Pot Can Streamline Your Meal Prep - and Help You Lose Weight
Meal prep is essential when you're trying to lose weight, but it can also be a time challenge. Among recipe research; grocery list planning and shopping; and all the chopping, cooking, and subdividing, prepping can eat up an entire day. And whether you're new to meal prep and cooking or a master of the culinary arts, not many of us are willing or able to give up a Sunday.
Fortunately, I started taking Instant Pot lessons with my mom last year (my cooking shaman) and was introduced to the infinite number of recipes this single appliance can conjure up. It's honestly mind-blowing and has taught me a lot about how to expedite meal prep.
Not only does the Instant Pot cut down on cook time, but in certain recipes (even simple ones!) it can yield better results (in my mother's words, "pressure-infusing maximum flavor and tenderness"), all while reducing cleanup (heck yeah) and allowing you to multitask more easily. So, I'm sharing the top five ways the two of us use the Instant Pot to prep healthy meals at home without sacrificing hours and hours every week. Try them for yourself, and see how much easier it is to stick to your plan and unlock your weight-loss goals.
Will Cardio or Weightlifting Help You Lose Belly Fat Faster? Here's What a Trainer Says
Fitness newbie or not, if you're trying to lose belly fat, you're probably wondering exactly how you should be training. With all the workout options - HIIT, strength training, cardio, and CrossFit - it can be difficult to find the best workout that will get rid of belly fat. To find out if cardio or strength training is better for losing belly fat, POPSUGAR spoke with Alex Harrison, PhD, CSCS, a sports performance coach for Renaissance Periodization.
Is Cardio or Strength Training Better to Lose Belly Fat?
"Belly fat doesn't decrease at any different rate depending on your training methodology," Dr. Harrison told POPSUGAR. "If the goal is to lose belly fat, you've got to lose all fat," he continued. According to Dr. Harrison, "Where you hold the most fat will be the place where you're last to lean out." Spot reduction won't work, but Dr. Harrison did explain what you can do to lose fat in general.
For short-term weight loss, we're talking a few weeks or a month, Dr. Harrison said it doesn't matter whether you do cardio or lift weights, but there's a catch. If you're trying to lose fat, "Weight training is almost certainly better because of your increased muscle mass and its ability to continue to burn more calories at rest," he explained. Another reason Dr. Harrison advises doing more strength training than cardio is because cardio has the potential to burn both fat and muscle.

How Often Should I Work Out to Lose Belly Fat?
To lose body fat and maintain or build lean muscle, you're going to have to be diligent with strength training. "For the super-dedicated folks, I'll have them do six days per week of lifting with only light cardio on their one 'rest' day," Dr. Harrison said when asked how often you should work out to lose belly fat. If your schedule is more demanding, Dr. Harrison recommends lifting four days a week and doing full-body workouts.
If you're a beginner or haven't worked out in a while and six days of lifting sounds like too much too soon, don't worry. In a previous interview with POPSUGAR, Stephen Cheuk, certificate IV Australian Institute of Personal Trainers and founder of S10 Training in NYC said to start with two strength sessions a week, gradually working your way up to three sessions a week.

What Exercises Should I Do to Lose Fat?
To lose body fat, you've got to hit the weights, and you're going to want to strength train a minimum of two times a week. If you're wondering which exact exercises to do, Dr. Harrison recommends compound exercises. Why? Because they're multijoint movements that work large groups of muscle and elicit a greater energy expenditure. This means that you have to work harder to perform them, and as a result, your body will burn more calories and fat. Exercises like barbell back squats, deadlifts, walking lunges, bench press, and pull-ups are all examples of compound exercises.
At the end of the day, you'll have to pay attention to how your body responds to both strength training and cardio. You may need to tweak Dr. Harrison's recommendations, and that's OK. If you're looking for more guidance at the gym, try our four-week muscle-building workout plan.

When We Say "Clean" Beauty, Here's What That Really Means
Philosophers have said that people cannot change their habits without first changing their way of thinking (or was that Marie Kondo?), but nobody could have predicted how difficult it'd be in 2019 to understand the phenomenon that is "clean" beauty. Brands have identified that consumers want safe, nontoxic products, but sorting through the verbiage - especially when sharing the beauty shelf with terms like "natural," "organic," and "green" - can feel like finding your matching sock in the dryer.
That ends here. We're tidying up all the misinformation out there to give you a better understanding of the term, once and for all, so you'll never have to wonder again.
So, What Is "Clean" Beauty?
While its definition tends to vary depending on who you ask (and is subject to marketing spin), most brands and experts use the phrase when a product doesn't contain certain controversial ingredients. For example, Credo Beauty, a leading clean beauty retailer that maintains strict ingredient standards, only stocks products that are free of potentially harmful chemicals like phthalates, parabens, triclosan and oxybenzone. Last year, Sephora launched a similar initiative, in which all 2,000 of its available "clean" products are labeled as such both in store and online. Beauty by POPSUGAR adheres to the same practice of creating products sans parabens, sulfates, and the likes.
That doesn't always mean there are no preservatives, however. Creating a product that's fully organic is an entirely separate topic. Let us explain.
The Difference Between "Clean" and "Green"
The two terms share one common denominator: both are marketed to be formulated without any of the "nasty" stuff. But - like you have probably already gleaned from sir Donald Trump - all definitions of "nasty" are not created equal.
"'Clean' beauty includes nontoxic and noncontroversial products that are proven safe and effective," said cosmetic chemist Ginger King. "It does not have to be 100 percent 'green,' as green may not be efficacious. Consumers have been greenwashed so bad that they think as long as it's natural, it's good for you. That is not necessarily the case. Synthetic materials can be good [in products], as long as they are proven safe - having gone through various testing - and do not harm people, animals, or the environment."
The Problem With Beauty Product Regulation
In a word: it's practically nonexistent. The FDA doesn't define the term "clean" (or "green," "natural," or "organic," for that matter) in the context of cosmetics labeling or ingredients, which means virtually anything can be deemed as such - whether it's harmful or not.
"There is no official definition for 'clean' as it pertains to skincare [editor's note: or makeup and haircare] products, and different companies may use it referring to different things," said dermatologist Francesca Fusco, MD. "When I ask companies to explain, I get responses like that a product is vegan, organic, natural, or has no chemicals, preservatives, is 'ethical' with minimal waste, or ingredients that are on the warning list with the Environmental Working Group that would be glass and not plastic."
Unfortunately, the safety requirements for beauty brands have remained mostly unchanged since the Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act first passed back in 1938. (For comparison, the European Union has banned or restricted approximately 1,400 ingredients in cosmetics.) So it goes without saying, there is much work to be done.
What You Can Do to Be More "Clean"
Labeling aside, the truth is that brands are launching products that fall under the "clean" category - you just have to look for them. The first step is to learn which products are considered "safe" and which ones are the byproduct of fearmongering tactics from marketing, word-of-mouth, or otherwise. King says preservatives are not the enemy, for example: "Glycine or Benzoates-based preservatives are usually safe. You will see them in ingredient lists as Capryloyl Glycine and Undecylenoyl Glycine and sodium benzoate."
Products claiming to be formulated with "clean" ingredients should never have fragrance, parabens, phthalates, SLS and SLES, formaldehyde, mineral oil, or lead. What can you use? Silicone. "While there are many classes of silicones, dimethicone is actually classified as a skin protectant," said King. (Psst, it's also an FDA-approved ingredient.) "What people are worried about is cyclomethicone or cyclopentasiloxane. The 'cyclo' part has been linked to some breathing issue and can harm the factory worker handling it. Dimethicone or silicone elastomers are bigger molecules that can help coat skin and hair to give that silky finish. They belong to the silicone family, but general consumers and marketers who do not understand chemistry just kill all in one class."
Marie Kondo may be against labels, but in the case of beauty, sometimes it's the only way to stay safe out there.
Hmm . . . Is Joe Jonas's Game of Thrones Nod in "Cool" a Hint About the Show's Final Season?
In case you haven't heard yet, the Jonas Brothers are back, and it's pretty clear their significant others inspired a huge part of their comeback. Following the release of "Sucker" in February, the boys dropped another single on Friday titled "Cool," and if you listen closely, you'll catch Joe Jonas's special nod to fiancée Sophie Turner and Game of Thrones.
In the second verse, the 29-year-old sings, "Oh, I feel like Post Malone when I get home / Sittin' there, winning like it's Game of Thrones / And now that we've made it, how complicated was last year?" Turner famously plays Sansa Stark in the HBO series, though it's unclear what he means by "winning" since there are a lot of deaths on the show. Hmm . . . perhaps Jonas knows something we don't know? After all, Turner did tell him how the series ends but made sure to make him sign an NDA. Guess we'll just have to tune in when Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 14 to find out what the heck he is talking about!
Why Game of Thrones Fans Believe the "Aftermath" Poster Reveals Who Will Die in Season 8
We're drawing nearer to the final season of Game of Thrones, and it's gotten to the point where fans are obsessing over everything for a clue of what's to come. When HBO released three new teasers for the upcoming season premiere, you better believe fans gave each one an intense inspection - especially the eerily ominous teaser titled "Aftermath."
The teaser doesn't contain any actual footage from the final season, but it's full of enough imagery to have us shaking. As the camera pans over a completely desolate Winterfell, several objects are pointedly shown buried in the snow, like Tyrion's Hand of the Queen pin, Arya's sword (Needle), Bran's chair, and Jon's sword (Longclaw).
The poster that comes along with the teaser is similar to the footage, except a little more direct - everyone of importance is shown lying dead in an icy pile of bodies that's shaped to resemble the Iron Throne. Even the ol' Night King is in the pile! The poster is enough to worry even the most optimistic GoT fan, to the point where it's led one Reddit user to wonder if it's actually a map to who will live and who will die by the end of the season.
Redditor Jnemo412 helpfully pointed out who is who on the poster, so we have a pretty good lay of the land.
[SPOILERS] Who's who in new season 8 poster from r/gameofthrones
In a theory posed by Reddit user JimmyNice, what if everyone placed on the Night King's side of the poster (the right) is meant to die? Before you feel personally attacked because your favorite character just happens to be pictured there, hear them out - the fact is that nobody is safe and the folks on that side of the photo are more likely to perish than others. There's Cersei (who we know has that icky prophecy hanging over her head), Varys (who has also been told he will die in Westeros), the Mountain (who is already dead, but needs to be put down permanently), and poor, sweet Podrick (someone innocent has gotta die!).
Of course, there are some outliers that need to be taken into account. Sansa and Dany are both on the right side, and they're definitely in the running for making it until the end of the season. Plus, Melisandre is on the left, when we all know that Red Witch has got to go. It's not as far fetched of a theory as it may seem, even though we really hope Pod doesn't bite the big one. He's already been through so much!
This Is Us Star Chrissy Metz Sang Live at the ACMs With Carrie Underwood, and It Was STUNNING
It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who watches This Is Us that star Chrissy Metz is just as talented of a singer as she is an actress. Just in case you had any doubts, though, she made her live singing debut at the Academy of Country Music awards on Sunday night, and she sounded in-freakin'-credible.
Fellow ACMs performer Carrie Underwood introduced the performance before singing alongside Metz, noting that their Diane Warren-penned song, "I'm Standing with You," is from the soundtrack of Metz's new movie, Breakthrough. Underwood noted that both the song and the film - which follows a mother's (Metz) journey to heal her drowned son through prayer - are all about "keeping the faith through odds that seem insurmountable."
After her touching intro, Metz took center stage to belt out the powerful ballad and was soon joined by not only Underwood, but some of country music's other big female stars: Maddie & Tae, Lauren Alaina, and Mickey Guyton. Watch the performance ahead, and then keep scrolling to see photos from their onstage collaboration!
Why Is Pet Sematary Spelled Like That? There's a Simple, but Creepy Answer
As an entertainment journalist, there are certain movie and TV series titles that make my job harder than others. Jordan Peele's recently released Us, for example. (And This Is Us, for that matter.) Netflix's You is another one. Despite being short and simple, it makes writing headlines a little bit of a pain. But the latest contender is annoying for a reason that should become immediately clear as soon as you lay eyes on it: Pet Sematary. Why, oh why, is it spelled like that?!
The 2019 reboot of Stephen King's classic, terrifying story - which was first published in 1983 and adapted for the big screen in 1989 - is now in theaters. Which means that it's now all over social media, in giant headlines on ads in the city where I live, and plastered all over freaky commercials that will keep me awake for a week straight (at least). But in addition to being creeped out by all the screeching cats and zombie children, the heinous spelling of "cemetery" is also enough to give me chills. In order to explain why King opted for an unorthodox spelling, I need to shade in a few of the plot details for you.
The horror film follows Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who moves into a sprawling rural home in Ludlow, ME, with his wife, Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children, 8-year-old Ellie (Jeté Laurence) and toddler Gage (twins Hugo Lavoie and Lucas Lavoie). Not long after they arrive, their neighbor Jud Crandall (John Lithgow) informs them about the eerie pet cemetery located in the woods bordering their home, which isn't your average burial place for beloved cats and dogs. Instead, when dead pets are buried on a plot of land just beyond the pet cemetery in the woods (which used to be a burial ground for the Micmac tribe), sometimes they come back, albeit in a much more aggressive, evil, zombie-like state.
Even though the Creeds live on the land, kids from Ludlow have no problem roaming freely as they perform burial rites for their deceased pets (they wear animal masks, beat a drum, and a ton of other stuff that will make you never want to procreate). If you've read any of King's work, then you know that creepy children are a trope that he loves to infuse his stories with, from The Shining to Children of the Corn. The film doesn't really get into this, but he expands more on the band of kids who use the cemetery more in his novel.
When the kids in town discovered that the land brought their pets back to life, they took a bit of ownership of the graveyard and continued the tradition of covering their pets in the soil there over the years. In the story, the burial ground full of necromantic power is able to revive animals such as bulls, cats (RIP Church!), and dogs. The remake's version of Jud mentions that his childhood dog Biffer (who was "a hell of a sniffer") was buried there, but came back far meaner and more aggressive than he was before, leading to his father putting him down (again).
In King's novel, a soldier named Timmy Baterman is buried in the cemetery by his grieving father, and comes back possessed by the Wendigo - the demon who possess the cemetery. Jud and other townspeople beg Timmy's father to kill his reanimated son, which he eventually does before taking his own life.
Because these young kids became the cemetery's caretakers, so to speak, they're also the ones who wrote the sign that reads "Pet Sematary" - the spelling error can simply be chalked up to the fact that a young child who doesn't have a perfect handle on the English language is the one who painted it.
What's even more interesting is King's connection to a pet cemetery he encountered in his own life. The author has said the inspiration for this story came from real life, which he explains in the forward of later editions of his book. Fresh off the success of Carrie, the author was invited to be a writer in residence and professor at the University of Maine at Orono in the late 1970s, which also happens to be his alma mater. He promptly moved his family to a rural home in Orrington, MI, that abutted a road that frequently had big trucks zooming by. As a result several lives of the local pets were claimed, and the kids established a pet cemetery in the woods. According to King, he visited it and saw that it really was marked by sign that read "Pet Sematary."
So, in short, even though my eye twitches every time I read it, I can totally understand why King chose to go with that spelling. (It doesn't mean I can forgive him for all the nightmares he's left me with after seeing Pet Sematary, but I digress.)
ACM Awards: Keith Urban's Heartbreaking Performance of "Burden" Will Stop You in Your Tracks
Little Big Town took the stage at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night to introduce Keith Urban's latest performance at the annual event, where they noted that the superstar was "stopped in his tracks" and deeply moved the first time he heard the song he was about to perform, "Burden." He wasn't even halfway through his performance before it was made abundantly clear why.
Urban's rendition of the touching song was nothing short of powerful, singing lyrics like "I could carry your burden," and "Come to me, my brother, and I will sit with you a while / Pretty soon I'll see you smile and you know you will." As usual Urban had the audience deep in their emotions, including wife Nicole Kidman, who cheered him on from the front row.

Aww! Carrie Underwood Plants a Kiss on Her Husband in the Middle of Her ACMs Performance
Carrie Underwood's marriage to husband Mike Fisher seems like a fairy tale, and their behavior at the Academy of Country Music awards on Sunday night only reminded us why.
In the middle of her colorful, glitzy performance of "Southbound" at the Las Vegas-based event, Underwood took a break from singing the party hit to plant a sweet kiss on her hubby of eight years, with whom she shares two adorable kids. Although we were already loving how she took the upbeat song from a pool party outside straight into the Las Vegas venue, her unexpected kiss with the hockey player was definitely a highlight.
Watch the cute moment Underwood and Fisher shared in the audience before she hit the stage, as well as footage from Underwood's flawless set, ahead!
The Real Legend of the Wendigo in Pet Sematary Is Actually Pretty Terrifying
Warning: spooky spoilers for Pet Sematary ahead!
Stephen King's Pet Sematary has returned to the big screen, and the 2019 reboot of the terrifying story - which King originally published in 1983 and was also adapted in a 1989 film - makes a few big updates to its source material. But for the most part, it's a faithful retelling of the core story, down to the chilling inclusion of an ancient creature known as the Wendigo.
If you're familiar with King's book or the new horror film, then you know that the story follows the Creed family as they move from Boston to a big farmhouse on a sprawling, 50-acre piece of land in the small town of Ludlow. Unfortunately their property includes the cursed "pet sematary," where kids from Ludlow perform creepy burial rites for their deceased pets (they wear animal masks, beat a drum, and a ton of other stuff that will make you never want to procreate).
As the patriarch of the Creeds, Louis (Jason Clarke) is tasked with burying his daughter Ellie's beloved cat, Church, after it gets hit by a tractor trailer just beyond their driveway. His neighbor Jud (John Lithgow), a lifelong Ludlow resident, takes him aside and fills him in on a little nugget of eerie history about the Creeds's new property: if you walk into the woods beyond the pet sematary and bury your dead pet in a certain plot of land, the animal will return. (It will be an extremely f*cked up, angry, mean version of your pet, which Jud conveniently neglects to tell Louis.)
So, what fuels the dark magic of the land? According to Jud, Native Americans used to occupy the land but eventually fled to escape the hellish presence of the Wendigo. In both Pet Sematary and in The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, King features the primal demon as an antagonist, of sorts, and explains that it haunted the Algonquian tribe, as well as the Micmacs and others. It's also responsible for cursing the land that now brings things back from the dead.
The Origins of the Wendigo
The Wendigo hails from legends of the Algonquin-speaking peoples: the Ojibwe, the Saulteaux, the Cree, the Naskapi, and the Innu. It's sometimes depicted in legends as a tall, hunched over, moose or deer-like creature with huge antlers that stands on two feet. Sometimes its body is rotted away, exposing its bones and innards, and other times it's seen as more of a blurry black shadow. It is also said to appear as a monster with humanoid characteristics, or merely as a spirit that possesses an actual human and makes them engage in similarly evil, monstrous behavior.
The mythical creature would devour humans and animals, and was native to the northeastern forests of North America, stretching all the way up from the United States into Canada. The Wendigo is historically associated with traits and themes like murder, overwhelming greed, cannibalism, and environmental destruction.
What Does the Wendigo Have to Do With Pet Sematary?
As legend has it, the Wendigo inhabited the north east all the way up to Canada, and was able to command any living creature in its domain (or at least have a strong influence over it). In King's stories, the creature eventually encountered the Micmac burial ground in Maine, which would eventually become part of the town of Ludlow.
In Pet Sematary, it's explained that the Wendigo cursed the Micmac burial ground that the Creeds eventually live on, making sure that any corpse laid to rest in the soil there would reanimate within a day as a murderous, evil shell of their former self. (And sometimes, they'd become cannibals.) Unsurprisingly, the Micmac tribe abandoned Ludlow.
The burial ground full of necromantic power is able to revive animals such as bulls, cats (RIP Church!), and dogs. Jud mentions that his childhood dog Biffer (who was "a hell of a sniffer") was buried there, but came back far meaner and more aggressive than he was before, leading to his father putting him down (again). In King's novel, a soldier named Timmy Baterman is buried in the Micmac cemetery by his grieving father, and comes back possessed by the Wendigo. Jud and other townspeople beg Timmy's father to kill his reanimated son, which he eventually does before taking his own life.
In the 2019 remake, the Wendigo isn't featured as prominently as in the book. It's mentioned briefly by Jud during a chat with Louis as they page through a book about Native American legends around their part of Maine, and can be heard roaring in the woods as they take Church's body to the burial ground. It roars again when Louis carries his daughter's dead body there, too, and he stares through the woods and seems to glimpse a shadow of the creature. It never fully appears onscreen in the flesh, though.
The Wendigo in Other Pieces of Pop Culture
The Wendigo is a well-known legend, and thus has inspired fear in writers and artists all over the world. For instance, the demon appears in Marvel comics written by Steve Englehart (drawn by artist Herb Trimpe), and is seen as the twisted result of a curse that attaches itself to cannibals. It even goes head-to-head with the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk #162, as well as Wolverine.
On screen, creatures based on the Wendigo legend have appeared in films like Dark Was the Night and Ravenous. TV series that have a supernatural bent have also made use of its infamy, like Grimm, Charmed, and Supernatural. Notably the character of Will Graham sees it in a number of dreams in the TV adaptation of Hannibal, where the Wendigo symbolizes the cannibalistic habits of the show's titular character.

Dave Bautista Kidnaps Kumail Nanjiani in the Action-Packed Trailer For Stuber
Being an Uber driver comes with some big disadvantages. Like, what if someone pukes in your car, for instance? Or they give you a two-star rating for no reason? Maybe a giant, muscular cop commandeers your vehicle, bringing you along on a violent mission to track down a brutal killer in LA? At least, that's what happens to Stu (comedian Kumail Nanjiani) in the first trailer for Stuber, which sees the mild-mannered Uber driver picking up a detective with the LAPD (My Spy's Dave Bautista) in this action comedy from director Michael Dowse. Stuber also stars Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mira Sorvino, and Karen Gillan, and it hits theaters on July 12. Watch the trailer above!
Game of Thrones: 16 of the Most Powerful Weapons in Westeros
According to the latest teaser trailer for Game of Thrones, no one in Westeros is safe. What started as a clash of steel against steel has quickly become a battle of man versus myth as the Night King and his deadly army march their way through the Great Wall. Now, with the Seven Kingdom's main defensive weapon in icy shambles, fans have to wonder: How will our heroes defend themselves? Weapons of Valyrian steel are a safe bet as the substance is one of two strong enough to kill White Walkers, but an effective protection plan goes far beyond mere metal. So let's review 16 of the most powerful weapons currently on Game of Thrones.
Reminder: Rhaegar Targaryen's Death Basically Caused Everything on Game of Thrones
Rhaegar Targaryen is arguably the most important Game of Thrones character, and until the season seven finale, we had never even seen him. His death marked the end of a long and complicated rebellion full of forbidden love and a plethora of fighting and death. If you're wondering how or why he died, or perhaps you've forgotten, we are here to help, because he's definitely an important piece of the Westeros puzzle.
Rhaegar is the eldest son of "Mad" King Aerys II, making him heir to the Iron Throne and Daenerys's oldest brother. The Targaryens are allies with the Lannisters way back when at this time, and Cersei always thought she might marry Rhaegar, but the two families' peace falls apart when the Mad King instead marries Rhaegar to Elia Martell of Dorne, with whom he has two children. But everything really falls apart in the Seven Kingdoms when Rhaegar sees Lyanna Stark at the Tourney of Harrenhal.
Rhaegar is so taken with Ned Stark's sister (who was also Robert Baratheon's betrothed) that when he wins the tournament, he gives the victor's wreath to Lyanna instead of his wife. Several months later, Rhaegar allegedly abducts Lyanna, but we now know from season six that she goes with him of her own free will - and they secretly get married, as we found out in Game of Thrones' season seven episode "Eastwatch," though the Game of Thrones characters all think Lyanna was the victim of kidnap and assault.
This controversy is what spurs Robert Baratheon's rebellion, backed by the great Houses Arryn, Greyjoy, Stark, and Tully. The Lannisters even eventually join the rebellion after the Battle of the Trident, which is where Robert kills Rhaegar with his war hammer.
This defeat is the beginning of the end of the Targaryens, which is why the Lannisters finally join Robert's side - like true Lannisters, they wait to see which side emerges victorious before they make a choice.
After Rhaegar's death, the Lannisters sack King's Landing. Jaime kills the Mad King (thus his nickname, Kingslayer), bannerman Ser Gregor Clegane (aka The Mountain) kills Elia Martell and Rhaegar's two children, and the rebellion is complete. Tywin Lannister marries his daughter Cersei to Robert, and King Robert takes the throne.
However, Rhaegar's line lives on. While all of this was happening during the rebellion, Rhaegar sends his pregnant new wife, Lyanna, to the Tower of Joy under the watch of Kingsguard members Ser Arthur Dayne and Ser Gerold Hightower. Eddard tracks his sister there and is present when she gives birth to Rhaegar's son and heir. Ned passes the baby boy off as his own bastard because Lyanna asks him to protect the baby from King Robert (who would surely kill Rhaegar's heir if he knew the truth), and that's how Jon Snow comes to be part of the Stark family.
We Never Saw This Game of Thrones Couple Coming - and Now We're Convinced They're Endgame
Every character on Game of Thrones experiences a certain amount of misery, but Sansa experiences more than her fair share. Thanks to men like Joffrey, Ramsay, and Littlefinger, any notions she had about romance died long ago. The Sansa who believes in true knights and fair ladies is long gone, but the new badass Lady of Winterfell deserves to have some small bit of her faith in the world redeemed before the series ends. And Reddit user zmphotojournal knows just the guy to give the eldest Stark daughter the happy ending she deserves: Gendry. Yes, Arya's Gendry, but let's not dwell on that bit too much. Instead, let's focus on how the show seems to have been setting these two up since the beginning.
In the pilot episode, Robert tells Ned, "You have a daughter, I have a son - let's join our houses." Of course, Robert's referring to Joffrey, but we now know that he has a biological son in Gendry, who is a far, far better man than Sansa's first crush could ever dream to be. As zmphotojournal points out in their theory, Jon knows Gendry well, and he can vouch for his honor. Arya also knows the blacksmith, and while she may have once dreamed of fighting side by side with Gendry for all of her days, she's become a lone wolf now. Given how unlikely it is that she'll be interested in romance with such a major battle brewing, there's no reason not to believe she wouldn't be in full support of her sister and friend finding happiness together. And let's face it, these two are perfectly suited for one another. Gendry's heroic, kind, and handsome, while Sansa is smart, strong, and beautiful.
And from a political standpoint, a marriage between Sansa and Gendry makes their potential pairing make even more sense. No, Gendry isn't Robert's legitimate son, but he's the only Baratheon left. If his house is going to survive, it will be through his line. Meanwhile, Sansa needs to shore up her power in the North, and marrying the last living Baratheon - true-born or not - would be a good move on her part. Jon may be King in the North, but he's been clear about his desire for his sister to run Winterfell. She doesn't need a man to do this, of course, but she's always wanted to experience true love. Nothing would be more satisfying than seeing her finally get her wish with the son of her father's best friend.
After all, before his death, Ned tells Sansa that she deserves to be with someone who is "strong, and wise, and brave," and Gendry is all of those things. (Well, the jury's still out on the wise part, but his survival instincts have to count for something.) Given that there's also an argument to be made that Gendry may end up inheriting the throne if all of the major players fall in battle, then the show could end with Robert and Ned's wishes being fulfilled. Ned dies trying to ensure that the true Baratheons maintain the throne, while Robert's wish is to finally join his house with Ned's. Gendry and Sansa are in the perfect position to make both of these things happen, while also showing Sansa that she's not just a pawn in the games of men. She can choose love, have her happy ending, and maintain her power. After seven seasons of heartbreak, there's no better way for the Lady of Winterfell's story to end.
