Jennifer Lopez had the full support of her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, at the 2019 CFDA Awards on June 3. The stunning couple stepped out in NYC to celebrate the 49-year-old singer as she received the Fashion Icon Award. I was born in Taiwan and grew up mostly in the Midwest and central Pennsylvania after 5 years of age. As a queer person assigned female at birth (AFAB), I can't say it was fun to live in small-town America under a roof of traditional Chinese culture. You are consistently being told that children should not talk back to parents, even if only to correct a fallacy happening at the moment. Boys are expected to carry the family name. The culture teaches AFABs to be shy and conservative.
I enjoyed my feminine fashion and presentation. To be honest, I was not consciously trying to explore my masculinity. That doesn't mean I did not do it subconsciously. This, to me, is what a journey can be like for anyone growing up in an environment not aware of artistic or diverse possibilities of life.

While I jest, the phrase "I didn't choose the drag life, the drag life chose me" holds true for me. When I was 19, I was on a European cruise with neighbors and won a bottle of bubbly for lip-syncing to "New York, New York" in a three-piece suit. Years later, I was supposed to be an extra in an unknown indie film as "Cambodian Village Woman," but suddenly they had me playing a Khmer Rouge soldier, and the director chose to zoom in. I didn't even know I was doing drag - I just kept getting rewarded when impersonating a man.
This was in the early days of my gender and sexuality exploration, so dressing in traditional male clothes once was all it took for me to enjoy acting.

According to his official Bachelorette bio, Tyler is a 26-year-old general contractor who lives in Florida. He also has an MBA, which is pretty impressive. But he's far from being a stodgy businessman. As fans will remember from Tyler's intro during last week's premiere, he loves dancing. So much so, in fact, that he was apparently just two credits away from having a dance minor during his undergraduate career.
Like some of the other contestants, Tyler has a background in sports. His ABC bio notes that he was drafted to the Baltimore Ravens, but a shoulder injury kept him from professional football. Poor Tyler! Fortunately, the injury doesn't seem to have kept him from all physical activity, since he lists one of his favorite activities as scuba diving.
And if all of that isn't enough to sell Hannah (and fans!) on Tyler, he's also a model. Is there anything this man can't do? Sadly, his Instagram account only has a handful of pictures, but they're all adorable.
We will have to keep watching to see if Tyler wins Hannah's final rose when it all comes down to it, but he's definitely one to watch as the show heats up in the coming weeks. Can't wait!

Coast, mountains, forest, desert - there are amazing hiking trails to be found in any kind of ecosystem (here are our must-do hikes for every state). When the weather gets warmer, there's nothing we want to do more than explore the wilderness just beyond our backyards. As you're lacing up your hiking shoes and rubbing in your sunscreen, it's fair to start thinking about how hiking can fit into your fitness routine. Hitting the trails is a great way to unwind and appreciate the natural world, and it feels like a full-body workout when you're done, too. So what's the official take - can hiking count as your cardio workout for the day?
Does Hiking Count as Cardio?
In short: yes. "Hiking can be a great way to rev up your heart rate and get your muscles moving," said Stephanie Blozy, MS, an exercise science expert and owner of running shoe store Fleet Feet in West Hartford, CT. And it's especially effective if you're hiking on a rugged surface, as opposed to a maintained dirt or asphalt path. "It takes extra energy to step up and walk over roots and rocks," Stephanie told POPSUGAR. Many hikes also include elevation changes - hills and mountains - that add to the cardio benefits. (One of our editors hiked to Mount Everest base camp and back - now that's cardio with elevation change.)
Compared to other forms of cardio, Stephanie acknowledged that hiking probably won't spike your heart rate the way running does. But if you do choose one of those rougher, hilly trails, it can certainly be a more effective cardio workout than regular walking. In fact, Stephanie said, "hiking combines the best parts of walking and running:" it's gentler on your joints than running is, but utilizes more body movements than walking, "like stepping over a rock or swinging your arms harder to create momentum and drive your body up an incline."
Plus, hiking is just more interesting. That potentially makes it more enjoyable than walking and running on a treadmill or road, which in turn makes it easier for you to go farther - you won't get tired or bored as quickly. "A hike in the woods is an adventure that keeps all of your senses engaged: sight, sound, smell and touch," Stephanie said.
How Can You Make Hiking a Better Workout?
To get the most cardio benefit out of your hike, Stephanie recommended grabbing a pair of trekking poles. They'll help you bump up your speed and incorporate more body movement, which in turn burns more calories. You should also head for more challenging routes, especially ones that include hills, though if you're just starting out, it's fine to start on easier trails and work your way up. The elevation changes are tough, but Stephanie said, "I always love hiking up mountains because the view at the top is usually worth the extra effort!"
Of course, you probably don't need us to tell you that hiking comes with a bunch of other benefits beyond just cardio. "A hike through nature rewards so many of your senses and doesn't always feel like work or exercise," Stephanie told POPSUGAR. "It's more of an adventure with perks like views, a sense of accomplishment, calories burned, and muscles strengthened." You'll improve your balance and spatial awareness as you take on uneven surfaces. And hiking through nature comes with a sense of peace that a run or walk through the neighborhood doesn't always bring. "Time seems to slow down in the woods, so a hike can lead to you feeling much more refreshed and relaxed," Stephanie said. "Not to mention the fresh air and vitamin D from the sun will do your body good!"

The Lion King's Photorealistic Pumbaa Poster Is Freaking Some Disney Fans the F*ck Out
Disney's upcoming live-action version of The Lion King first sparked debate when the teaser for the film arrived and fans realized that it's not quite as live as many thought it would be. Like in the reboot of classic animated film The Jungle Book, the studio is going with a hyper-realistic, CGI recreation of characters in the story, which we got an up close and personal look at in a new batch of character posters released on Thursday.
The cast of the remake includes everyone from Donald Glover and Beyoncé as Simba and Nala, to Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa. But despite the fanfare surrounding Nala's big reveal, it's Rogen's poster that has ignited a heated (and hilarious) discourse on social media.

In addition to recounting their rise to fame and their recent reunion, the film will also dive pretty deep into why they broke up in 2013. While the split came as a huge shock for fans at the time, there was clearly much more going on behind the scenes.
Rumors of the band's split first started circulating in October 2013, when the Jonas Brothers canceled their upcoming tour and their official Twitter account was deleted. Shortly after, Joe cryptically tweeted, "Please hold while we get our sh*t together." On Oct. 30, 2013, the Jonas Brothers officially confirmed that they were breaking up during an appearance on Good Morning America. Though they didn't go into too much detail at the time, they stated that they were ultimately putting their family first before their music. As the documentary gets ready to shed more light on their careers, here's what the brothers have said about their split in recent years.
1. They Didn't Agree on Their Music
At the time of the Jonas Brothers' split, they were prepping to release their fifth album, titled V. While they released "Pom Poms" and "First Time" as singles, they couldn't agree on what direction they wanted their music to take. "There is a deep rift within the band," the group's rep explained at the time. "There was a big disagreement over their music direction." As a result of their breakup, the full album was never released. During their recent cover story with Paper Magazine, Nick added that they ultimately "lost touch with what we wanted to say" in their music. "We understood that our level of success and fame had reached a point, where our musicianship and writing and performing abilities needed time to grow and catch up to it."
2. They Were Drifting Apart as Brothers
In addition to falling apart as a band, the brothers were also dealing with personal issues at the time. During a Reddit AMA back in 2016, Joe responded to rumors that he was dealing with drug-related issues and wasn't on speaking terms with his brothers at the time of their breakup. "I think that probably half of those questions are true," he admitted. "I was seeing a therapist and I wasn't on speaking terms with my brothers." He added that he was especially hurt that Nick was the one who initiated the conversation. "I remember kind of losing it a little bit and I didn't speak to anybody," he added. "I closed myself off and we canceled the tour and didn't really know what was going on. We were honestly trying to figure out if it was the right decision to call it off or do a final tour or final goodbye, but I think, for all of us, we did it for 10 years and it was a lot of time doing one thing." He explained that after taking some time away, he was able to travel and do some self-reflection about where he wanted to go next.
3. Nick Wanted to Pursue a Solo Career

The Bachelorette: Let's Talk About Jed and How Much We Hope He Wins Hannah's Heart
Hannah Brown's fairy-tale-themed season of The Bachelorette began with 33 Prince Charming potentials (aka contestants). If all goes according to plan, she'll narrow down the group to her one true match. That man could be Jed Wyatt, who is already said to be a front runner.
Jed was born on Jan. 19, making him a Capricorn, a sign that tends to be wise and very logical. The 25-year-old is from Nashville, so he might have that Southern charm in common with Hannah, who is from Alabama.
We're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll get to hear Jed sing and play his guitar throughout the season. That's right, he's an independent singer and songwriter. His latest single, "Vacation," came out last Aug. 28, and he played around Nashville last Summer and Fall.
Music isn't the end of Jed's résumé. According to his Instagram bio, he's represented by The Block Agency, which is a modeling agency in Nashville. So she utilized her skills and orchestrated this breathtaking photo shoot at the Fugitive Beach in Rolla, MO. The location is absolutely gorgeous, and most of the photos were taken on a man-made rock quarry turned cove with beautiful sparkling water.
To top things off, Amber's models, Spencer and Madison, are actually a real-life couple! They are high school sweethearts after meeting by chance at a New Year's Eve party during their senior year. Their romance and chemistry is palpable in this photo shoot. "I did not think he would want to strip his shirt off and take pictures with me, but as hesitant as he was, he did! And he loved it, he loves how they turned out and how different the experience was to him," Madison said about the experience of working with her boyfriend. "I absolutely had a blast just goofing off with the guy I love and acting like I'm photogenic for awhile."
Spencer and Madison definitely brought the heat to this shoot to fulfill Amber's vision. Spencer wore a white shirt and black pants and Madison wore a gorgeous gown that featured a shimmery bodysuit that was an absolute showstopper.
