It Sounds Like the Fast and Furious Stars Are Very Serious About Not Looking "Weak" on Screen
If you thought the drama behind the scenes between the Fast and Furious stars was wild, wait until you hear about the stipulations they added into their contracts to protect their macho images. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, which spoke with several producers and crew members, including Michael Fottrell, the franchise's lead stars have contract demands to ensure they all give as good as they get in scripted fight scenes.
You read that right; in the same films where more scenes are dedicated to machinery blowing up than meaningful dialogue, actors have producers keeping track of how many times their character is getting punched. The report specifically calls out Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham, the latter two who star in the recently released F&F spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw, mentioning that each star limits the amount of punishment their characters endure. And it's all in the name of not appearing "weak."
Diesel, who has been playing Dominic "Dom" Toretto since the beginning, reportedly cooked up a rating system tallying how many times each actor was hit to ensure violence was being doled out equally. The idea was rightfully shot down for being too complex (and ridiculous), but Fottrell admitted that scripted fights were choreographed so there is no definitive winner. Suddenly, all those fight scenes that seem to go on forever, only to end in a stalemate or be interrupted by a random projectile blowing something up, make a lot more sense.
The report also highlights how Statham negotiated an agreement that limits just how badly he can be beaten up on screen and Johnson uses a team of producers, editors, and fight coordinators to make sure he always gives as good as he gets. The actors regularly ask for adjustments on set so their characters don't look weak. While we totally get wanting to ensure your character's badass potential is given its fair spotlight, it all seems like a bit too much. No one is above getting their asses kicked every once in a while, and contractually assuring that your character can't be beaten doesn't make them a better character. It just makes the fights even more unrealistic.
In response to the report, a Universal spokesperson stated that the negotiations made it so "every character has their moment" and are seen as formidable opponents. "Each Fast character is a hero to someone watching, and we never forget that," they added.
Jason Momoa Will Seek Revenge in Netflix's Upcoming Thriller Sweet Girl
Jason Momoa is set to produce and star in a new Netflix revenge thriller called Sweet Girl. The Aquaman actor will play Cooper, a shattered husband and loving father who is committed to avenging the death of his wife. While he brings justice to those responsible for her death, he must keep his only daughter safe during all those intense fight scenes.
Momoa reunited with long-time friend Brian Andrew Mendoza, who will make his feature directorial debut with Sweet Girl. Mendoza and Momoa previously collaborated on 2018 thriller Braven. Brad Peyton and Jeff Fierson are also on board to produce Sweet Girl, with Martin Kistler executive producing. Peyton worked with Momoa before in the production of Canadian drama series Frontier.
As for Momoa, he's recently wrapped an ultrasuccessful run at the box office with Aquaman, which brought in $1 billion since its release in December. He's also just finished filming the 2020 remake and adaptation of the iconic science-fiction novel Dune, starring Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet.
Momoa's film career is officially picking up some A-list momentum this Summer, and we can't wait to see what's next.

After What Feels Like Forever, the Trailer For Mindhunter's Second Season Has Arrived
The wait is over: after nearly two years, the second season of Netflix's Mindhunter is arriving on Aug. 16, and a new trailer finally offers insight into the serial killer stories to come. The forthcoming season will predominantly focus on the Atlanta Child Murders, during which an estimated 24 children and six adult men were kidnapped and murdered between 1979 and 1981.
Continuing the season one premise, however, agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench will also interview apprehended serial killers, including Ed Kemper and Charles Manson, to gain insight into ongoing investigations. Cameron Britton will reprise his chilling portrayal of Kemper, while Damon Herriman will make his Mindhunter debut as Manson. In fact, Herriman just portrayed the '60s cult leader in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
The first season ended with Ford feeling the pressure to rein in his unconventional methods, while a final haunting shot revealed the BTK Killer still at large. The BTK Killer will presumably reappear in the second season, as he wasn't caught until several decades later in 2005.
Watch the haunting trailer above.

Want A Free Trip To Kyoto, Japan? Tatcha Wants To Help
Whether you love skin care or you want an all-expense paid trip to Japan, you're going to want to see what Tatcha has in store for mid-August. The brand is asking its skin care-loving fans to reflect on what they love about themselves in social media contest to celebrate the launch of the brand's new The Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream.
Tatcha is inviting you to scroll through your camera rolls until you find the very first selfie on your phone ("the oldest one," as the brand says). Then, it's asking you to post it on Instagram with a caption that lists three things you see and love about yourself (with, of course, the hashtags "#tatcha" an "#eyeseetatcha" so that the brand can see it). While the prize is sweet - a trip to Kyoto, Japan that includes airfare and accommodations for four nights - the contest is thought-provoking for anyone who enters.
It makes sense that Tatcha would design a contest in this way, as the new eye cream is gorgeous both inside and out. The rich cream absorbs is loaded with antioxidants and absorbs into skin to leave it feeling silky.
See the new eye cream, ahead, and look out for Tatcha's contest on Instagram on Aug. 15.

Drugstore Skincare Items That Have the Ridiculously Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid
I've always struggled with hormonal cystic acne and superoily skin, which usually left me with severe dry patches. I could never find a moisturizer that felt right on my face. What I didn't realize until doing a lot of research was that I needed more moisture. That's when I learned about hyaluronic acid, a chemical known for its hydrating properties.
It acts as a filler for fine lines and wrinkles. It also has the ability to hold 1,000 times its water weight, making this a smart way to lock in moisture and stop producing oil. Using it changed my skin for the better by clearing it up.
If you've been interested in trying it out, you don't have to cash out hundreds of dollars. You can find this chemical in so many drugstore brands. Check them out ahead.

The New Owners of the Real-Life Conjuring House Confirm That It Is Indeed Freaky as Hell
A house that inspired an entire horror movie franchise is now home sweet home to one fearless couple. On June 21, Cory and Jennifer Heinzen purchased a farmhouse in Harrisville, RI, where the paranormal events re-created in The Conjuring purportedly took place. In an interview with Sun Journal, the couple said it wasn't long until spooky things started happening around the house.
Released in 2013, The Conjuring explores several supernatural occurrences that terrorized Roger and Carolyn Perron, as well as their five daughters, after they moved into the house in question in the early '70s. The family eventually sought help from famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who also investigated the Amityville killings. Needless to say, the Perrons didn't stay in the house for too long.

Though the terrifying tale might make the average person run far away, the new homeowners are instead "fascinated" by it. In fact, Cory is a paranormal investigator himself, and he had visited the house before it went up for sale. "It's just like a piece of paranormal history, this house," he told the Sun Journal. Cory has also previously met with Andrea Perron, who grew up in the house and wrote about her experience in House of Darkness House of Light.
"You can tell there's a lot of things going on in the house."
The way Cory described the house, you'd imagine a Norman Rockwell painting. "We immediately fell in love with it," he said. "Eight-and-a-half acres, a river in the back and a pond, it's so serene down there, never mind the story behind the house, it's a beautiful home." It isn't without its quirks, of course. "We had doors opening, footsteps and knocks," Cory said. "I've had a hard time staying there by myself. I don't have the feeling of anything evil, [but] it's very busy. You can tell there's a lot of things going on in the house."
Whereas the previous owners complained about curious trespassers and fans of the film - ultimately suing Warner Bros. in 2015 - the Heinzens hope to open the house up to visitors and investigators after some repairs. Jennifer said, "I love that we have the opportunity to share the home with others." She added, "This whole journey has been both scary - for many reasons other than paranormal - and exciting all at once."

We Didn't Quite Know What We Were Getting Into Having Kids, but I'm Sure Glad We Did
Why do people choose to have kids? There are many perfectly valid reasons, because family is what you decide it is. For some, perhaps they feel like society expects them to. For others, maybe it's been a dream they've had since they were little. But, for me, I think I fall somewhere in-between. I never really envisioned my life without them, but I wasn't the person who had baby names picked out as a child.
My husband and I met in college when we were both young and extremely naive. We daydreamed about our future together: The types of jobs we'd have, where we'd live, and yes, even how many kids we'd have. For us, it was easy to do because we both saw ourselves as parents. I figured that the time would come when I'd get baby fever so badly that I just couldn't wait another minute. I assumed that this strong urge to have children would probably come in my mid-to-late twenties. But now that two decades have passed since those first conversations about having children, I see things much differently and much more clearly.
This is cheesy, but when it comes down to it, the reason my husband and I wanted to have kids was because of love. Yes, our love together and for each other, but also out of a desire to give that love to other human beings - human beings that we made together. I know, that sounds super cliche, but it's true. Before we even tried getting pregnant, I pictured my life as a mother. I wondered how magical it would feel to cradle my firstborn in my arms. The joy that would fill me for their first words, first steps, first day of school. I felt like it would be similar to falling in love all over again - only better.
But if I'm truly being honest, there was a bit of a selfish reason I wanted kids. I wanted to not only give love, but receive it in return. I wanted to feel the unconditional love that only children can give you. I thought about my own childhood. I was blessed with two loving parents who loved me and who I loved deeply, despite their flaws and mistakes. I not only wanted to experience that, but I wanted to pass that down to another generation.
So, after my husband and I got married at the age of 27, we went about our lives while I waited for baby fever to strike. But it never did. One day, I woke up and I was 31 - and told my husband, "If we want kids, we better get on this." It's like we forgot to try to have kids. So, I began taking the prenatal vitamins, tracking my ovulation, and peeing on the ovulation sticks. It was all very calculated (and included zero romance). And once our first baby was born, I waited some more for my maternal instincts to kick in. It turns out, those instincts were not innate for me. Maybe I'm missing something genetically (though I've heard from other moms that my experience is far from unique), but becoming a mother was not what I thought it would be like. Loving another human, becoming a completely selfless paradigm of motherhood, did not happen with the snap of my fingers. It took a lot of hard work. With time, my love for my babies ignited like wildfire, but getting it to spark was no easy task.
And now that I am a parent of two children, a girl and a boy, I understand the gravity of the responsibility that rests on our shoulders. To my husband and I, it is imperative that we send grown children into the world who will hopefully make it better. We now know that raising a child isn't only about the love you give them, but also about the lessons you teach them, and the contributions they make to the world. If I want my love for them to translate into the real world, then I have to guide them on how to do that and work my hardest to mold them into respectful, giving, caring, lovely humans. Raising kids will be my toughest endeavor. And I understand that it's the kind of task where my love alone will not be enough.
I think the decision to have kids is deeply personal. Whether you choose to have or not to have children, they're both perfect choices, because it means you understand yourself and what's right for your life. It's funny now to look back to the original conversation my husband and I had about having children. It was so effortless . . . and yes, clueless. Just because my husband and I always knew we wanted to be parents, doesn't mean that it was how we dreamed it would be. While I wasn't the natural mother I envisioned, being a mother has brought me the more joy than I could ever fathom. I'm grateful for the naivety that my husband and I both had during our college years because that's where our love began to bloom for the children we would one day have.
