I Got Kylie Jenner's Manicure, and It Changed My Opinion on Acrylic Nails

Prom night was not only the most anticlimactic experience of my high school career (my evening was, admittedly, very boring), it was also the last time I had gotten acrylic nails until very recently. I'd asked my manicurist for a full set with french tips . . . and that is all I remember of the beauty treatment.

I was recently inspired to get nail extensions because of the looks I'd been seeing on Instagram - particularly, Kylie Jenner's recent looks by her go-to artist, Chaun Legend. I decided to get my first set of acrylics in almost a decade at the very salon that many of the Kardashian-Jenners have gone to for their manicures: Modern Pamper Salon in Los Angeles.

It came with a few hesitations. They were mostly concerns I had surrounding how much the process would damage my nails and how the actual nails would make parts of my everyday routine harder.

Now that I have the manicure, there are a few things I knew before going through the experience.

  1. Parts of my routine that I thought would be difficult with tips on (like working out with free weights or, erm, using the restroom) didn't get any harder.
  2. Typing with acrylic tips, however, took some getting used to.
  3. Putting in contact lenses was only difficult if I let it be. Once I got over the idea of a pointy nail hovering over my eyeball, I was able to get my lenses in seamlessly.
  4. Play-fighting with my partner became a dangerous sport (and he has the scratches to prove it).
  5. The process of getting them was uncomfortable, but completely worth it. The tips elongate my fingers (which are otherwise very short) and the design I'd gotten are just a delight to look at.

James Bay's Cover of "False God" Is So Good, Taylor Swift Kinda Freaked Out

James Bay recently blessed his Instagram followers with a video of him singing his own rendition of Taylor Swift's "False God," and I don't know about you, but I need a full cover of this song and a duet between the two artists pronto. Bay posted the video to his Instagram Story earlier this week, in which he's seen strumming his guitar and adding his own sweet and soulful vocals to the Lover track.

Not long after Bay shared the video, which began making its rounds on social media thanks to a few fan pages that grabbed it before it expired from his Story, Swift even gave the cover her seal of approval. "This is STUNNING. THE TALENT," she said via a now-deleted Instagram Story, according to Billboard.

This, of course, isn't the first time Bay has shown Swift some love. He also recorded a cover of "Delicate" last year for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge and opened for her during her 1989 World Tour back in 2015. See the short clip of his "False God" cover below.

Jameela Jamil and Jonathan Van Ness Wore the Same Dress, 'Cause Stylish Minds Think Alike

Jameela Jamil and Jonathan Van Ness are two peas in a pod, at least when it comes to this gorgeous pink Rochas gown. The Good Place actress and Queer Eye star each picked the dress for separate industry events in September, and their reactions to the twinning moment could not be sweeter.

"YOU DON'T NEED TO SAY IT! I KNOW @jvn WORE IT BEST BENCHES! 💕" Jameela tweeted on Sept. 16, in reference to Jonathan. He quickly saw her tweet and responded with some fangirling of his own. "Omggg queen great minds tho 😍 and the pocket game was next level," he wrote. Yes x1000 to this interaction between two fashion icons.

Jameela wore the Rochas gown earlier in the month for YSL Beauty's Libre launch, while Jonathan chose it for Netflix's Creative Emmys after party on Sunday night. Both Jameela and Jonathan let the dress act as its own statement piece and opted for minimal accessories. Jonathan simply carried a matching wrist bag, and Jameela kept things classic in black strappy heels. Ahead, see both of their individual looks. They each wear this dress so well!

The Trend I Wore All Fashion Week Will Be Even Bigger for Spring

As someone who appreciates simplicity, I totally understand why the puffy-sleeve trend can feel like . . . a lot. Ample arms, big shoulders, and billowing cuffs aren't exactly subtle. I generally subscribe to a classic and minimal aesthetic, but often find myself drawn to feminine flourishes like pretty prints, cute colors, and yes, you guessed it, fanciful sleeves, too; particularly when I'm craving a more standout look. So, as I prepared a lineup of outfits to wear throughout New York Fashion Week where novelty is rewarded on the street style scene, I decided to rock puffy sleeves in top, dress, and sweater form. And let me tell you, the trend is a lot more wearable trend than you may think.

Since I tend towards simple pieces, the bulk of my wardrobe can teeter into hum-drum territory if I'm not inventive. But with a closet full of classic silhouettes and neutral colors, I struggle to achieve impact sans the whole "try-hard" thing (me sporting an maximalist look would be akin to witnessing a mermaid on land: unnatural and technically not even a thing). It wasn't until I came across a few puffy-sleeve pieces that it dawned on me; a little volume can go a long way. I can still feel like me if I temper a bold sleeve with muted colors, clean lines, and uncomplicated accessories. Even if I dared to wear a puffy sleeve in a brighter hue (which I did!), I've deduced that minimal extras make me feel comfortable and more willing to experiment; what better feeling to enter into fashion month with?

My puffy-sleeve success story doesn't stop here, however. After witnessing the first few shows and presentations of the week, I quickly realized that the puffy-sleeve trend isn't going anywhere for Spring. In fact, it's getting bigger than ever with swingy bishop sleeves, Princess-style shoulders, and '80s-inspired shapes both for day and night popping up all over the runways. Am I just tooting my own horn for being in line with such a prominent trend? Absolutely not. But it makes me feel good knowing I've invested in a trendy silhouette that will be sticking around into Spring and Summer. And in turn, I'm hoping this encourages you to try your hand at the trend, too.

Without further ado, check out five puffy-sleeve outfits I wore to the Spring 2020 shows and presentations throughout New York Fashion Week ahead and shop my looks head to toe. Then, to preview the 2020 version of puffy sleeves, scroll through for all of my favorite moments from the runway.

Hannah Brown Is a Total Beast on the Ballroom Floor During the DWTS Premiere

Hannah Brown proved she had moves as she performed the Cha Cha on Dancing With the Stars. During Monday night's season 28 premiere, the Bachelorette alum was paired with Alan Bersten as she danced to "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston. Looking like a rose in red, Brown completely wowed the crowd and the judges as she bust out a move (and a killer split) on the ballroom floor. She even managed to nab one of the highest scores of the night. Of course, it's her bright smile and bubbly personality that really shines through. Looks like Brown has found a new love: dancing!

High School Musical Fans Want Justice For Sharpay Evans, 13 Years Later

It's been over a decade since High School Musical premiered on Disney Channel, and as fans grew up, so did their opinions of Sharpay Evans. The blond theater-lover was long-regarded as an HSM villain, but a recent video and subsequent tweets put her whole character in perspective - even actress Ashley Tisdale responded!

In the HSM trilogy, Sharpay is passionate and driven by dreams while her classmates are more concerned with relationships. She tirelessly pursues parts in the musical, fabulous solos, and college opportunities, while Troy and Gabriella stumble into onstage success. Yes, she's still entitled and snarky, but as adults, more fans see themselves in her work ethic than the movie's main romance.

After the tweets about Sharpay started trending, now-34-year-old Tisdale chimed in with some thoughts of her own. "Finally, y'all are seeing the light," she wrote. Seems like she's glad to finally have some friends in Sharpay's corner! Keep reading to see more hilarious tweets about Sharpay. Maybe viewers will have a little more sympathy for the next generation in the upcoming High School Musical TV show.

Kelly Clarkson Covered Sia's "Chandelier," and Now My Entire Body Is Covered in Goosebumps

Had I known NBC giving Kelly Clarkson her own talk show would basically mean daily concerts from the pop star, I would've begged the network to do it a long time ago. On Friday, The Voice judge hit the stage with another cover for her "Kellyoke" segment, this time belting out Sia's "Chandelier." Clarkson's soulful vocals give the upbeat track an edgy spin, and I'm not exaggerating when I say listening to it made me instantly sprout goosebumps all over my body. Check out her stunning interpretation of the song above, and then hear all the other covers Clarkson has slayed over the years.

I Bought These Leggings For $23 on Amazon, and They're Insanely Comfy and Durable

I spend a lot of time in workout gear, whether I'm working out or running to school drop-off. But despite having a pile of workout pants from a wide range of pricey brands, I always reach for my Baleaf High-Waist Running Leggings ($23) first, even if that means fishing them out of the hamper. Is it possible to be in love with a pair of leggings? Because if so, I've fallen hard for them.

Buying clothes online, especially from a brand you've never worn, always feels like a bit of a risk. I rely heavily on the reviews on Amazon when making a decision about what to purchase. That's especially true of the reviews with photos, because you can't hide see-through pants in pictures. It's been more than a year since I first added these leggings to my cart, and hundreds of washes, workouts, and preschool pickups later, they're still like new.

The highest compliment I can give these leggings is that I forget that I'm wearing them. Trust me, this is a good thing. They're super soft, and not once during a run or BBG workout have I needed to adjust them. It doesn't matter how many burpees I do - these leggings somehow manage to remain comfortable and make me feel like I look my best, too. Plus, they don't show any sweat, even after a half-marathon. Not that I want to wear them out to brunch after an intense workout, but I'm saying I could. That's pretty miraculous for $23.

While I'm the type of person who can stay dedicated to a workout regimen, I'm the laziest when it comes to washing clothes. I mix colors and fabrics, playing it fast and loose with the washing instructions on tags. Even though I have one of those fancy machines that has a setting for workout clothes, I just shove in more clothes than I probably should and let the machine do its best.

Somehow, even with all this washing abuse, these leggings are just as perfect today as when I opened that little Amazon box. You'd think that being washed and worn multiple times a week would create some wear and tear, but other than the logo peeling slightly, the pants themselves are hanging on. They're my forever go-to.

A Pro Explains Why "Wavy" Nail Art Will Be Fall’s Biggest (and Easiest to DIY) Trend

You've seen it on your Instagram feed before: nails with abstract, curvy lines that transform your manicure's nail art into nail masterpieces. Chief creative officer of Paintbox Eleanor Langston dubs the look "wavy nails" and predicts that it will be even more popular this Fall.

"The organic swerves add interest to your fingertips and elongate your hands," she previously told POPSUGAR. Though it looks difficult to do yourself, Langston says the design is actually so easy to create. "It's basically goof-proof because the waves should just flow," she said. "Every wave doesn't have to be the exact same, so just start at the upper left-hand corner of your nail and sweep the brush down, curving as you go."

It's been 13 years since the first High School Musical movie premiered on Disney Channel. The trilogy - which catapulted Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens into the spotlight - follows a group of talented students, including Corbin Bleu, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, and Monique Coleman, as they audition for a musical at East High School. Now that the series is getting rebooted on the streaming platform Disney+, we're feeling a little nostalgic. Sadly, the new series (which premieres on Nov. 12) won't include any of the original cast members, so what better way to reminisce about the old days than by looking back at the cast on the red carpet over the years.

Obsessed With The Great British Baking Show? Where to Follow the Latest Batch of Bakers

The Great British Baking Show is now streaming its latest season on Netflix, and the cast of collection seven is definitely living up to expectations! Thirteen amateur bakers, all with colorful personalities and a shared love for baking, entered the tent this year, and for once, Netflix is streaming episodes on a weekly basis to coordinate with the UK broadcast, rather than dropping the full season to binge at once. As the new season gets underway, we're already loving the new batch of contestants. Keep reading to learn a little bit more about each of the cast members, courtesy of their official Channel 4/Netflix bios also published in The Telegraph, and where you can find them all on social media! (No spoilers here - we've included every baker, whether they've been eliminated or not.)

The '00s Called to Let You Know That French Nails Are Back in Style

Bon Qui Qui had her nail art, but suburban housewives? They had the french manicure. Back in the early aughts, everyone who was anyone walked around with white-tipped nails - acrylics optional, but not required - until all of a sudden . . . they didn't. A few years later and the look was all but swept under the rug, dismissed for the next decade by many as "too cheesy."

Then suddenly, inexplicably, french nails traveled in time to 2018, showing up in blockbuster movies, red carpets, and even music videos. (Ocean's 8 and "Thank U, Next," anyone?) "Fashion has taken a '90s turn from influence, so of course the trends have returned from that era," said Elle, celebrity nail artist for LeChat. "I'm enjoying the new modern twists, maybe because it comes from my era. But how you approach the modern take is vital; the nail shape should be a ballerina, not a square."

Unsure how to do it yourself? Follow the lead of Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, and more ahead. But remember: "If it's not done right, it will become 'basic,'" Elle said, which - to steal a phrase from one particular country - is the opposite of très chic.
