I'm a Makeup Minimalist, and This $16 Lip Color Is the Only 1 I'll Ever Use
To say I'm a makeup minimalist is an understatement. Most people don't believe me when I tell them I only own two eye shadows. One sparkly and one matte. I 'm all about finding my favorite products and sticking to them. Although I've experimented with glosses and lipsticks over the years, I never found one lip product I loved, because they're almost always too sticky or too colorful for my taste. However, I was recently introduced to Ohii's latest addition, this Lip Smudge ($16) - it's a total game-changer for me.
"My lips looked fresh and hydrated with just a touch of color."
The brand is a new in-house line from Urban Outfitters that's filled with tons of cruelty-free makeup and skincare finds. I was drawn to the lip smudge immediately because its hint of sheer color sounds like exactly what I've been looking for. The soft velvety texture easily glides onto my lips and adds just the right amount of pink and red shades. I tried all five choices and they all have their own unique look, but with one thing in common: it wasn't overbearing. My lips looked fresh and hydrated with just a touch of color.
Plus, the lip smudges are all vegan and paraben-free, so I can feel good about using it, too. I already own three and have one in every handbag. So what are you waiting for? Keep reading to shop all the shades and find your perfect match for Summer.

Cooking Just Got a Lot Cuter Thanks to Smeg's Midcentury Mickey Mouse Refrigerator
We might not be able to have our kitchens consistently stocked with Mickey waffles and Dole Whips, but Smeg's latest appliance might be a sweet alternative. The kitchen company with a midcentury flair recently released a Mickey Mouse refrigerator featuring a black-and-white illustration of the iconic cartoon character on its front.
Though the illustration is the real draw, the one-door fridge also features an icebox, three adjustable shelves, and two drawers. Exclusively available at Williams Sonoma for $2,799, the fridge isn't exactly a steal. Because it's limited-edition, however, it does make for a quirky collector's item. At the very least, it'll make cooking and rearranging things in the fridge a little more fun.
I Have a Confession: I Don't Always Play With My Kid and She's Just Fine
When I had my first baby, I did my best to educate myself. I knew that I was unlikely to get much sleep, that breastfeeding could be challenging, and that my diaper bag would become my new purse. What no one told me was just how long my days as a stay-at-home mom would be. No one told me that I would bust out every weapon in my baby-entertaining arsenal - singing songs, reading books, holding her adorably tiny feet to make her "dance" - and then look at the clock, realize how many hours were left in the day, and feel paralyzed with dread. I had no idea how else to play with her to fill those hours. And so, sometimes, I just didn't.
I laid her on her play mat and let her bat at her dangling toys while I scrolled Instagram. I let the ceiling fan mesmerize her while I folded the piles laundry that seemed to accumulate overnight. Sometimes, I even did the unthinkable, letting her wave her hands at her crib mobile unsupervised while I took a shower down the hall. I settled her in her infant car seat for long, slow walks with the dog, a wonderful multipurpose activity that got the dog (and me) some exercise, ate up a good half-hour, and made me feel like I was doing something constructive with the baby that didn't involve me having to be a one-woman variety show.
All the while, the creeping guilt gnawed away at me. Why wasn't I one of those moms who just held her baby for hours at a time and didn't feel the need to do anything else? Why didn't I want to spend all day playing with her? Was she going to end up psychologically damaged, convinced she was unloved?
My private shame wasn't enough to keep me from taking my play aversion one step further, shuttling my daughter to every music class and story time I could find. On the surface, I felt I could rack up some "good mom" points for exposing my child to songs, books, and sensory play; just below the veneer, I felt guilty as ever. Surely better mothers than me could stay home all day, making up vocabulary-laden songs and mining Pinterest for age-appropriate craft projects. Not only did I want to scream with boredom if I had to entertain my own kid for more than an hour at a time, now I was outsourcing it.
On top of it all, I came to the dawning realization that all of our activities might be more for me than for my daughter. Sure, she loved to bounce along to her music teacher's guitar stylings, but that was nothing compared to my love for getting out of the house and being able to socialize with other moms. The effect on my mental health was striking, and ultimately, I found that the time I did spend entertaining my daughter at home was infinitely more tolerable - even fun! - if I'd just had the chance to chat with another adult for fifteen minutes that day. Maybe I wasn't the archetype of the selflessly devoted mother, but ultimately, raising my daughter in a way that felt authentically me was making me the best mom version of myself. The guilt began to subside.
Maybe it was a guilt that I needn't have felt to begin with. According to Miriam G. Winikoff, M.Ed, a licensed psychologist and psychoanalyst, babies are dependent on their mothers and the additional support of fathers and other caretakers for everything, particularly for the first three months. Then, with neurological and psychosocial development, "the baby and the mother learn how to regulate each other. The baby has an impact on the mom, and the mom has an impact on the baby." Which is why as my daughter and I began to figure each other out, I saw that I could put some distance between us without upsetting her. That distance didn't amount to a lack of love for my daughter, despite what my guilty conscience was telling me. Quite the contrary, according to Winikoff: My attunement to my daughter's capacity to be on her own was actually a sign of what psychologists refer to as "secure attachment."
"Trust your gut. Nobody is a better mother to your baby than you."
That attunement meant that, guilt aside, I was doing my daughter no harm by packing our calendar full of baby activities instead of playing at home if she seemed content and I was maintaining my sanity. Still, in an age where the Internet is the easiest source of (often conflicting) parenting advice, it's all too easy to doubt even the approach that feels most natural to us. "Trust your gut," says Winikoff. "Nobody is a better mother to your baby than you. That uncertainty and that doubt, that's part of the game. You're learning a whole person who has the right to have preferences and interests of their own. So do you."
My daughter recently celebrated her second birthday. She is a fun-loving, outgoing little girl who loves making friends with strangers in restaurants, hearing her favorite books over and over, and seeing trucks go by our kitchen window. She bonds easily with other adult relatives and friends, but always comes to me when she's tired, upset, or just in need of some comfort. She seems to have suffered no ill effects from my supposed laziness. If anything, I think she's a happier kid for her ability to entertain herself.
She's also a big sister now - a big sister to another little girl who seems just as content to kick and wave at the toys suspended over her baby seat. I still read and sing just like I did with my older daughter, but when I run out of ideas and turn away from her to check my e-mail, I know she'll be just fine.

Here's How His Dark Materials Relates to the Golden Compass Book and Film
HBO's His Dark Materials is the much-anticipated adaptation of Philip Pullman's trilogy of fantasy novels by the same name. So why are people talking about something called The Golden Compass? Are they the same thing? Well, yes and no. Here's what you need to know about the series, which premiered on HBO on Monday.
His Dark Materials - the book series, not the TV series - is made up of three novels: The Golden Compass (also published in some countries as Northern Lights), The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. Thus, The Golden Compass is simply part of His Dark Materials - one third of it, to be precise! Back in 2007, when the first attempt at bringing the series to the screen was made, the idea was originally to make a trilogy of films, with one based on each book. That's why the 2007 film adaptation starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig is called The Golden Compass: because it was specifically adapted from that book and that book only.
In contrast, the HBO/BBC series is based on all three books, with an expected pace of approximately one book (give or take a little) per season. Right now, there are two seasons ordered; it remains to be seen if the TV show will cover all three books in those two seasons or if a third season will be ordered down the line. At the Television Critics' Association panel, IGN reported that showrunner Jack Thorne hinted how the TV series may borrow bits and pieces from the other books, even in the first season.
"Largely it's one book per season . . . [but] there are a few treats I've stolen from other books . . . The whole story of three books and how can we celebrate them in the best possible way, and sometimes that involved moving certain elements forward."
The plot covered in The Golden Compass is, unlike the other two books, focused mostly on a single world (while the concept of the multiverse is at the heart of the other two). On a parallel earth, an orphaned preteen girl, Lyra, witnesses an attempt on the life of her controversial uncle, Lord Asriel, as well as the kidnapping of her friend Roger. Upon realizing that her new guardian, Mrs. Coulter, is behind some shady business, Lyra escapes and heads off on a quest to the north, where rumor has it a group of kidnappers are keeping children and experimenting on them. There's also the mystery of Dust, a strange substance that little is known about but that Lord Asriel theorizes can open breaches in the multiverse, under the right circumstances.
For the most part, The Golden Compass portion of the overarching story sets up a lot of key plot points and characters that continue to develop in the rest of the story. It sets up Lyra as the heroine of the story, as well as her supernatural ability to read the altheiometer (a truth-telling device) without any training. It introduces us to concepts like daemons (magical creatures that are connected to the soul of each human) and Dust, as well as hinting at the possibilities of other universes. It's because of what's set up in The Golden Compass that the rest of His Dark Materials is able to function at all!

The Creepy-Cool Locations Across the UK Where The End of the F***ing World Was Shot
The second season of The End of the F***ing World takes viewers on quite a journey - but where, exactly, was that journey? The locations featured in the show are highly specific to its quirky, retro-ish aesthetic, which apparently required a lot of scouting to find exactly the right places to film.
"There are lots of nods to American TV shows, hopefully, and American landscapes. So we were trying to find parts of the UK that didn't look quintessentially British - we filmed the finale on the Isle of Sheppey, and so hopefully there's a feeling of expanse like you'd get in the Midwest. I think it was almost trying to do a Fargo-take on Britain, so they move from suburbia to an English version of the Wild West," writer Charlie Covell explained to Channel 4.
So what locations ended up being used, in the end? A few local film offices in the UK have records that point us in the right direction. Leysdown on Sea, a coastal village in the Isle of Sheppey, was one such location, as the Kent Film Office recorded. Over the course of approximately seven weeks, some scenes were also shot in Surrey in "various commercial and residential locations within Camberley, Chobham, Guildford, Thames Ditton, Virginia Water, Windlesham, Chertsey, and Knaphill," as per the Surrey Film Office. These locations, it's important to note, were used for the first season; it's not confirmed whether or not they were also used for season two.
There are, however, some confirmed locations for season two, and they're all in Wales. Wales Online gave a complete breakdown of some of the notable locations where the show filmed its second season. They include:
- Cardiff Central police station in Cathays Park
- Swansea's council building, as well as Bay Studios, Swansea
- Afan Forest Park
- Penderyn, a rural village in the Cynon Valley
- The Kardomah, a famous cafe in Swansea, actually does double duty in the show. It's transformed into a Chinese restaurant for a present-day scene, then is back to its "real" self in a flashback.
- Bwlch Mountain in Rhondda, which features heavily at the very end of the season.
- The store Rowberry on Port Tennant Road in Swansea (specifically, the bridal section)
Given that The End of the F***ing World is unlikely to return for a third season, we don't think any other locations will have the honor of appearing in the series, but over the course of these two seasons, the series has showcased plenty of moody, cool locations across the UK!

Shia LaBeouf's Mouth Went Numb During a Spicy Game of Ellen's "Burning Questions"
Things got extra spicy for Shia LaBeouf on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, literally and figuratively, after he downed an entire ghost pepper. During a round of "Burning Questions," the Peanut Butter Falcon star sweated his way through the game as he discussed his thoughts on the Mile High Club and his love for "cuddly '50s Rockwell missionary, boring sex." Much to his surprise, this admission earned him a standing ovation from Ellen DeGeneres and her entire audience. Shia also talked about his childhood crush on Natalie Portman, his fear of spiders, his best onscreen kiss, and the craziest rumor that he's heard about himself (truly hilarious). Watch the full video above to see Shia answer all of Ellen's burning questions with a numb mouth.
I Could Never Apply False Eyelashes Until I Found This Magnetic Set From Kiss
Putting on false eyelashes is hard even for me, someone who considers herself fairly good at applying makeup. While I can get them on, it takes me a good 10 to 15 minutes of applying glue, waving it in the air, and then trying not to ruin my eyeliner as I press the glue onto my eyelid. Plus, if my eyes tear up even a little, there goes all my beautiful eye shadow. Luckily, Kiss has seemed to solve all of my falsie woes for good with its new magnetic lashes.
Now, I have tried other magnetic lashes in the past, and despite people telling me that the sandwich-style application process (with your own lashes in the middle of two other magnetic lash strips) was easy, I could not figure it out. What makes Kiss's Magnetic Eyeliner and Eyelash Kit ($17) different is that the lashes attach to the eyeliner instead of a second set of lashes. As someone who already wears liquid eyeliner daily, I eagerly tried out this new method, hoping I could finally apply falsies with ease.
First, I applied the extremely pigmented black eyeliner to my lash line and created a wing, and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to apply and how smoothly it went on. As I waited for my eyeliner to dry, I unpacked the lashes, which feature five tiny magnets on the strip. I cut mine a little bit from the inside to fit my eyes, then went to apply them to my eyes. I kid you not, the entire process took me under a minute because these lashes instantly secured themselves to my eyelid and did not budge. I don't wear falsies very often, but that might change. Because Kiss just made false lashes less time consuming than layering on mascara - a feat I never thought would happen.
Check out the before-and-after photos ahead, as well as the different lash options.

All We Can Do Is Praise Hailey Baldwin For Her Sustainable Bikini Choice
Hailey Baldwin's green bikini is from one of my favorite swimsuit labels EVER, and here I am just cheering from the sidelines. The supermodel hung out with friends Lauren Perez and Justine Skye, dancing around in her signature swim look: a sexy little two-piece and jewelry, including those chunky gold hoops, her ginormous engagement ring, and her v-shaped wedding band. Hailey was glowing to say the least. "Best time with my favorite girls," she posted on Instagram under a shot of some vintage style polaroids.
It's just like Hailey to find a suit that's sporty meets sexy, and Ookioh's Amalfi Bottom was bound to pop up in her swim drawer for that one reason. While the affordable brand (everything's under $100!) offers a lot of tops with similar white piping - some of which even look like cool sports bras - Hailey went for the balconette Crandon Top, which definitely turns up the heat.
The most important thing you should know is that Ookioh is a label striving to create its products sustainably. The company recycles ocean waste, such as sunken fishing nets, to make all its swimsuits. How neat is that? With the slew of poppy colors offered in the current line, like tangerine and lemon, we bet it's about to become one of your go-tos, so now you can say you're in Hailey's club. Keep reading to pick up her exact design, or shop some other options with similar details.

10 Things You Might Not Know About Billie Eilish - Including Her Belieber Roots
Just from her epic performances, it's pretty clear that Billie Eilish is rad as hell. You can tell that she's a dyed in the wool artist based on her creepy music videos and inventive lyrics. But even outside of her work, Eilish definitely contains multitudes. She's loved for keeping things real with her devoted followers, above all else. Her frank Instagram posts and interview responses reflect just that, often reminding us how she's both relatable and unique. The Crown: Why Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon's Marriage Was Doomed
If you thought Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's marriage was dramatic in the first two seasons of The Crown, then just wait until you see what the Netflix drama has in store for Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon in season three. The fiery couple's steamy romance and passionate fights are on full display in the latest trailer, setting up their eventual divorce in 1978. But what brought Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon's marriage to an end? Sadly, the cracks in their relationship were on full display before they even walked down the aisle.
Unbeknownst to Margaret, another woman, Camilla Fry, was expecting Lord Snowdon's baby before they were even married. That scandal actually stayed under wraps until after the princess passed away in 2002. That infidelity was indicative of what was to come for the doomed royals, as they both embarked on extramarital affairs in the years that followed. Season three of The Crown will cover the years between 1964 and 1976 - a period that saw the Queen's sister's happy marriage fall apart as her husband was frequently away on photography assignments where he would engage in a series of brief affairs, as reported by The Evening Standard.
Those affairs reportedly bothered Margaret deeply, and she began having her own dalliances. Most notably, the princess began seeing a landscape gardener, Roddy Llewellyn, who was 17 years her junior, in 1973. Even though Lord Snowdon was known to have had many affairs, the tabloid's obsession with Margaret led to her relationship with Llewellyn being exposed after a series of photos featuring the couple swimming together were released to the public. The royal family was rocked by the scandal, while Lord Snowdon reportedly used the public outcry as an excuse to file for divorce. Per The Evening Standard, Snowdon had the princess's private secretary, Lord Napier, convey the news that he was officially ending their marriage via a phone call, and she reportedly replied, "Oh, I see. Thank you, Nigel. I think that's the best news you've ever given me." By 1978, their divorce was finalized, leaving Snowdon to marry Lucy Hogg, who he was carrying on an affair with while Margaret was seeing Llewellyn.
Season three is set to chronicle every messy moment that led to their marriage falling apart, but you can expect to see how much they loved one another too. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ben Daniels (Lord Snowdon) summed up the intensity of Princess Margaret and Snowdon's relationship. "They're such extraordinary people," he said. "Completely addicted to each other. Even right up until the minute they were getting divorced, they still had a really strong physical relationship. People often said that it was like foreplay for them, having a big row."
From the happy early days to the string of affairs that doomed their marriage, The Crown season three is set to show this royal couple at their best and their absolute worst.
