Here's What Scammer Anna Delvey - Netflix's Latest TV Subject - Is Doing Now

From Hustlers to The Inventor, we've been seeing a slew of female scammers in pop culture recently. The latest grifter to get the onscreen treatment is none other than fake heiress Anna Delvey - born Anna Sorokin - an NYC "socialite" who stole money from her friends to keep up with a lavish lifestyle.

Shonda Rhimes has rights to the New York Magazine story about Sorokin along with a bountiful Netflix deal. While we await actress Julia Garner's take on Sorokin/Delvey in the upcoming Inventing Anna, where exactly has the real NYC con artist been since her scams fell through?

Let's first talk about Sorokin's origin story. Sorokin first arrived in New York City in 2013 at age 22, telling acquaintances that her father, really a former trucker in rural Germany, was everything from an oil industry titan to a Russian diplomat. Her claims of a 60-million euro trust fund ushered her into the city's elite social circles. The con artist attended fancy parties, rode private jets, tipped exorbitantly, and made plans to set up an art club called the Anna Delvey Foundation. In addition to scamming friends for thousands of dollars, Sorokin forged bank statements and deposited bad checks, taking out money before her checks bounced.

Her scheming days came to an end in 2017 when a friend came to an assistant district attorney to pursue legal actions after Delvey stole dozens of thousands of dollars from her. Before her sketchy activities stopped, Sorokin took from friends, businesses, and banks an approximate $275,000.

Determined guilty for grand larceny and theft of services, Sorokin learned her sentence on May 9, 2019 after a brief trial. She received four to 12 years in prison, needed to pay $199,000 in restitution, and was fined $24,000. The fake heiress also faced the possibility of deportation to Germany for overstaying her visa. Her current residence is at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, though she spent her time on trial at Rikers Island, where it's rumored she found a girlfriend.

Netflix reportedly agreed to pay her $100,000, plus $15,000 per episode for consulting and $7,500 in royalty fees for her story, but the state of New York invoked the Son of Sam law, which prevents criminals from profiting off of their crimes. Judge Diane Kiesel has signed a restitution order for $198,956.19, which would go towards paying back the banks that Sorokin scammed.

Sorokin hasn't shown remorse for her crimes, telling The New York Times, "I'd be lying to you and to everyone else and to myself if I said I was sorry for anything." In prison, she's accumulated over 13 infractions for fighting and disobedience. While at Rikers, she planned to write two memoirs: one on her misadventures in New York and another on her time in prison.

Selena Gomez kicked off her first red carpet of 2019 in a highlighter green Versace dress that left her practically glowing as she strutted down the red carpet at the American Music Awards. Selena paired the look with matching heels and a three-layer diamond necklace that has me reaching for my sunglasses because She. Is. Frosted.

Lizzo Really Showed Up to the AMAs Looking Like Wealth and Success

Lizzo dominated the red carpet at the American Music Awards on Sunday. The 31-year-old shined bright in an orange one-shoulder gown with cascading ruffles. She then completed the look with heels, glimmering silver nails, and a teeny-tiny Valentino purse. Lizzo is up for three awards: new artist of the year, favorite soul/R&B female artist, and favorite soul/R&B song for her hit "Juice." She'll also be taking the stage for her first-ever AMAs performance, and we know she's going to bring positive vibes.

"I just want people to feel good," she said in a red carpet interview. "My music is like the definition of feel-good music and you know, we all go through it . . . and I feel like my music just helps people get through the bullsh*t." She went on to say that she's "feeling good as hell" about her upcoming performance, and so are we! Look ahead to see all the photos from Lizzo's exciting evening.

Hold Up, Shawn Mendes; I Wasn't Ready For Such a Sexy Suit

Shawn Mendes arrived on the 2019 American Music Awards red carpet in an indigo suit with teal lapels. He wore black leather cowboy boots, rather than opting for a classic loafer, and stuck with the bohemian aesthetic when it came to his jewelry - a small hoop earring, pearl choker, and long chain with some silver coins and a green David Yurman Roman Amulet pendant (that costs a whopping $850), all to play up the color of his blazer. How brilliant is that? While his look wasn't the loudest at the ceremony, it was arguably the sexiest, even if in a subtle sort of way. Although, when you scroll, I highly doubt you'll feel that Shawn's sex appeal is anything but obvious. I mean, I could stare at him in this cool outfit all night. Can you blame me?

All Our November Must Haves Are Under $200 - Yup, Even the Cashmere

Although we do splurge on quality fashion items that we trust we'll wear for many years to come, it's always nice to shop sensibly, limiting ourselves to a specific price point. This way, we feel better about picking up multiple items, and naturally we'll have even more outfits to wear, isn't that great? For the month of November, we're not shopping a single item over $200 (the holidays lie ahead, as does gift giving)! We rounded up shoes, must-have tees, belts, and beanies that we're collecting for the end of Fall and Winter months to come.

My personal favorite pick is these Charles & Keith pumps that ring in under $50 and come to a point with a square-shaped, low heel. But if you're all about height and love to stand out, Shop and Fashion director Hannah included a pair of marigold Zara boots that will look unbelievable with your dark denim. In the casual department, we've got muscle tees and live-in cropped sweaters, but editor in chief Lisa upped the ante with a $90 (yes, $90) Everlane cashmere shirt. How's that for sweater dressing? Read ahead for the full lineup of products we're into and find out why they're essentials. The fair price is just a bonus.

"French Moon" Nail Art Is the Dark New Twist on the Classic French Manicure

"What's old is new again" seems to be the motto of 2019, not only for dainty anklet jewelry and getting back together with your ex, but also the long-forgotten french manicure. (Luckily, we're safe from the resurgence of shoulder pads. . . for now.) Yet, while the white-tipped nail art of the early aughts has populated our Instagram feeds more readily this year than the seeds of a strawberry, there's a darker twist on the trend you can expect to see more of this Winter: the "french moon" manicure.

Think of it as the mysterious, much sexier cousin to the traditional nail look that's perfect for the colder season: "As we head into Winter, we're seeing dark colors reign supreme, with metallics adding a pop of fun," said Sarah Gibson Tuttle, founder and CEO of nail brand Olive & June. "We're seeing a big reboot of the french mani for Winter with the french moon, where black or metallic hues are used to trace a crescent shape along the cuticle line. It's fun and festive while still being sophisticated."

Whether you want to keep it simple with a single black stripe or add a little something extra like glitter or rhinestones, every iteration of the look (which you can peep below) is just as stellar as the next. Someone call NASA . . .

I Have Chronic Pain, Anxiety, and Insomnia - and No, CBD Didn't Work For Me

Cannabidiol or CBD has been recommended to me by nearly everyone I know. I suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain due to spinal arthritis. At just 26, I find myself in near-constant pain, experience fairly regular panic attacks, and have a tendency to lie awake for anywhere from two to four hours before I can finally fall asleep. Needless to say, I am always searching for ways to feel better. CBD, unfortunately, did not live up to the hype. At least not for me.

Trust me, I gave it a fair chance. I did my research. I learned that CBD doesn't cause a "high" the way THC does, and while more research needs to be done, it has natural properties that are believed to help reduce inflammation and anxiety. I quickly discovered that there are about a million ways to take it, all of which seemed to come with a hefty price tag.

At first, I was put off by the cost. I'm fresh out of graduate school and living on my own, and I've got thousands of dollars in student loan debt. Paying $75 for CBD oil or $50 for capsules that promise pain relief just didn't seem feasible. But eventually, my friends convinced me I was making an investment in my health and suggested a brand based in Oregon. Since the price for a bottle of capsules started at $50, I decided on getting a "sample pack" that included a smaller bottle of the capsules, a tincture, and a honey-like substance meant for use in coffee or baking.

I was still in pain, still anxious, still unable to sleep.

The first thing I noticed was that the products made me drowsy, but not enough to fall asleep. I would feel cloudy and immobile after taking the recommended dose, and as a result, I only took them at night. I was still in pain, still anxious, still unable to sleep. All the CBD seemed to do was create a thick layer of fog over my existing symptoms. A Google search suggested that I may not have been taking it long enough, so I persisted for an entire month, then another two. Some nights, the CBD put me to sleep. It didn't alleviate any of my chronic pain, but it did make me feel warm and cozy before bedtime. As for my anxiety, I tend to feel it most in the morning. It seemed counterproductive that I couldn't take the CBD then, so after three months, I gave up.

Sure, it's possible the brand I used wasn't high enough quality or I needed a stronger blend, perhaps one with CBD and THC. Am I open to trying it again? Absolutely. It's been a miracle for some of my friends who suffer from IBS and Crohn's disease, and one of my friends swears by CBD-infused chocolates for her anxiety. But for now, until some other product proves me wrong, I'm a little jaded.

Before You Watch Netflix's Bikram Doc, You Should Know Where the Disgraced Yogi Is Now

Netflix's Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator documentary presents an in-depth look at the cult-like founder of Bikram yoga (a specific type of hot yoga). While the practice of hot yoga has helped people worldwide, there is a dark side to Bikram Choudhury, a man who abused his power while teaching yoga classes by making racist, homophobic, and degrading comments about his students - and who allegedly did much worse behind closed doors.

Since 2013, six women have come forward to accuse the yogi of rape and sexual assault: Jill Lawler, Sarah Baughn, Larissa Anderson, Maggie Genthner, Dana McLellan, and a woman who goes by Jane Doe #3 to protect her anonymity. After hearing their allegations, the question on your mind will be, "Is Bikram Choudhury in jail?" The short answer is no, and aside from leaving his life in the United States behind him, the yogi hasn't been forced to deal with the serious consequences of his alleged actions.

Only one woman has successfully won a judgment in court against Choudhury: his former lawyer Micki Jafa-Bodden. She sued for wrongful termination and sexual harassment, but by the time she won her lawsuit, the yogi had left the United States and divorced his wife in a move that may have been designed to protect his assets. Since Choudhury was in no hurry to pay Jafa-Bodden, she was awarded his intellectual property, what was left of his business, and his collection of cars. In May 2017, a warrant for his arrest was issued due to his failure to pay his former lawyer what was owed to her.

As for Choudhury, he's still teaching his nine-week training sessions for $10,000 per student in Mexico and India. He reportedly no longer draws the same crowds that he did at the height of his fame, but per ESPN's 30 for 30 podcast, in the Fall of 2017 he had 70 students in his class. He holds these classes twice a year, which adds up to a tidy sum of money. One of his most recent classes was held in Acapulco, Mexico - and according to The Huffington Post, the yoga studios that retain the Bikram name may still owe a percentage of their profits to the disgraced yogi, although it's unclear whether he's profiting off of the businesses at this time.

While many practitioners of hot yoga have sought to distance themselves from Choudhury, the truth that he's still teaching classes and living his life despite the horrifying allegations against him shows that he hasn't faced any serious consequences for his alleged actions.
