How to Make Cinnamon Rolls in 30 Minutes Flat

Look, I'm all for making traditional homemade-dough cinnamon rolls, but sometimes you just want the piping hot buns, dripping with butter and brown sugar, ASAP. When you're jonesing for a homemade batch, but don't want to go through the whole trouble of making the dough, you'll want this easy cinnamon roll recipe that gets the job done in 30 minutes.

The secret's in the refrigerated crescent roll dough, which is the perfect cocoon for your cinnamon-brown sugar filling.

That - and drizzling lots of melted butter to ensure the filling will stay in place as you tightly roll the dough into a swirled log. Are you dizzy with desire yet?

Once you've cut the eight slices, the buns will fit snugly in the pan.

The cinnamon rolls will emerge from the oven sizzling and cracking, and that's when you should immediately cover them in a tangy vanilla, lemon, and cream cheese glaze.

I'll bet these cinnamon rolls will be eaten so quickly, the glaze won't even have a chance to ooze onto the napkin.

Quick and Easy Cinnamon Rolls

From Anna Monette Roberts, PopSugar Food

Ingredients

  1. Cinnamon Rolls
    2 tablespoons salted butter, melted
1/2 packed cup plus 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 package crescent roll dough
  1. Glaze
2 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature
2 tablespoons cream cheese, at room temperature
    1/2 lemon, juiced
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted

Directions

  1. To make cinnamon rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Use a pastry brush to lightly coat the insides of a small (7-1/2-inch-by-5-1/2-inch) casserole dish with some of the melted butter, about one teaspoon. Set the butter aside. In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. To assemble: Pop the crescent roll dough canister and carefully unravel dough into a long rectangular shape, careful not to tear the perforated markings. Use a pastry brush to lightly coat the dough with some of the melted butter, about one teaspoon or more, leaving a 1/4-inch border free of any butter. Then sprinkle the top of dough with the cinnamon sugar mixture, leaving the 1/4-inch borders free of sugar. Spread sugar evenly around the dough using a plastic bowl scraper, and then press it into the dough using a fork or your fingers. Drizzle the remaining melted butter on top of the sugar mixture until partially saturated.
  3. Roll the dough into a tight log. Slice it into eight even pieces (about 1/2 inch thick). Using a bench scraper or a spatula (so the cinnamon sugar does not pour out), transfer the dough pieces into a prepared baking dish and place them cut side up. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until dough begins to turn golden brown on top.
  4. To glaze: While rolls are baking, combine butter and cream cheese together in a mixer, then whip in lemon juice and vanilla. Add powdered sugar and mix until fully incorporated. Using a spatula, spread the glaze evenly over cinnamon rolls. Place any leftover glaze in a bowl to serve on the side.

I Reluctantly Took My Young Kids to a Funeral, and It Went Better Than Expected

When my husband's uncle unexpectedly passed away, I wanted to attend the funeral to support his family and pay my respects to a man I truly admired. But, with two kids, I wasn't sure I'd be able to. I didn't have childcare and bringing kids to a funeral didn't seem like a good idea. Funerals are somber affairs and my kids aren't exactly quiet and introspective. Frankly, I was worried they'd be disruptive and cause others to become distracted.

But my husband wanted his whole family by his side when he said a final goodbye to his uncle. And while I respected his wishes, all I could picture was dragging two crying and whining children out of the service early, while trying to avoid stares of disapproval from the other funeral attendees. So, while I considered my husband's preference, I also sought the opinion of a few family members.

"Should I bring the kids?" I asked my mother-in-law. I posed the same question to my sister-in-law and my own mother. And the only response I received was a very confident "yes" from each one of them. They had each described their own experiences of bringing young children to a funeral and they assured me that my kids would be welcomed.

Related: 22 Phrases to Stop a Tantrum in Its Tracks

With that, I began planning for how I'd manage the kids during the event. I purchased appropriate attire for them to wear. I bought a few new, novel toys and snacks - yes, even candy - that I stashed in my tote for the occasion, hoping it was enough to keep them occupied - and silent. And to top it off, I bribed them with a visit to their favorite restaurant if they behaved during the service. Of course, during the few days before the funeral took place, I had several discussions with them about what would happen during the service and how they would be expected to behave. After all that, the only thing left to do was wait and see if my preparation paid off.

Much to my surprise, my kids were on their best behavior. Indulging them, bribing them, and having heart-to-heart conversations with them had worked! But what was even more surprising was the response from others - people were genuinely happy to see my kids, even with their chocolate-stained faces and sticky fingers.

I can't count the number of people who told me what joy it brought them to have my kids at the service. And afterward, at the reception, I witnessed a group of mourners smile and laugh as they watched my kids play and sneak cookies. Their squeals of laughter filled the room, which may have seemed inappropriate in light of the circumstances, but no one seemed to mind. In fact, one woman even looked at me and said "I can't think of a better place to bring a child," and explained how kids have the ability to lighten the heavy load of death. "It's nice to hear their laughter," she continued.

Related: How My 3-Year-Old Daughter Helped Me Heal After My Dad Died

Bringing my kids to a funeral wasn't what I would consider an ideal situation. But I'm glad I did. While I pictured disaster ensuing, their presence actually brought a sense of calm to strained circumstances. And I realized that at such times, children hold the key to unlocking joy - at least in part. Maybe it's their innocence, their obliviousness to the weight that we carry as adults. Maybe it's their infectious laughter in the midst of tears. Maybe it's their chubby cheeks and fresh faces that remind us how truly beautiful life is and what a gift it is to have lived at all. Or maybe it's just that watching young children live life so fully gives us hope for the future.

Even though I was reluctant to bring my kids to a funeral, we all gained something from the experience. I learned that despite kids' tendencies to be messy and loud, they are a welcome presence when death has silenced the life of a loved one. And my kids learned that family connections extend beyond our nuclear family. I had the chance to talk to them about death, explaining that when someone we love dies, it makes us sad because we miss that person, which helped them understand why their daddy and grandpa were crying. Even though they didn't know the man who died, they could begin to see how his death impacted those who did know him. After we talked about how they would feel if someone they loved were to die, my daughter hugged my husband and said "I'm sorry your uncle died, Daddy."

It's reasonable to consider a funeral to be an adults-only event, but when others treated my kids as special guests, it became clear that even the youngest among us have the ability to add goodness to difficult circumstances. And in turn, they absorbed some important life lessons which proved that it's never too early to give kids the opportunity to learn the concepts of empathy and sympathy.

Daenerys Targaryen's White Fur Coat Foreshadowed Her Descent Into Madness All Along

For any Daenerys Targaryen stans still reeling over that controversial Game of Thrones series finale, it looks like the Mother of Dragons' fate was foreshadowed long before Jon Snow showed up with a knife. In an interview with TV Guide, Emmy-winning costume designer Michele Clapton revealed that Daenerys's white fur coat in the season eight premiere was a huge hint at her transformation into the Mad Queen. More than a few Reddit users caught onto the significance of Daenerys's wardrobe while the series was still on air, and we should have known our Khaleesi was going to lose control all along.

"When she arrives and descends on this dragon, she is this sort of angel of mercy."

"Initially it was about the idea that if she's riding a dragon to the North, she should be warm," Clapton said. "And then I decided that actually it's the first time she's performed a completely selfless task - because it's usually for her own gain - and on this occasion, it was actually for her love. So, I loved this idea, as I developed this costume, that it's almost [as if] she sees herself as this savior, this angel. And so when she arrives and descends on this dragon, she is this sort of angel of mercy. I think it just said so much about her mental state at the time, how she saw herself."

Clapton wanted the white fabric of Daenerys's coat to represent purity, while also calling attention to her coldness. It's through the coat that we see Daenerys's parallels to the White Walkers and better understand how she perceives herself as a savior, not just to Jon, but to all of Westeros. See Clapton's full video ahead to hear more about Daenerys' coat and to see original sketches of the symbolic design.

The Key to Taking Care of My Mixed Daughter's Hair? A Really Good Conditioner

When I had my amazing mixed race, multicultural little girl, I had to quickly learn how to take care of her beautiful hair. Her hair texture is very different from my own, which meant I needed to learn new haircare rules. Her big, bouncy curls could easily become full of knots after a night's sleep, so my main job was figuring out how to maintain them, keep the knots at minimum, and come up with cute styles for days we didn't have time to condition and comb them out.

It was a learning curve, but I was amazed at the amount of unsolicited advice I would get while out and about with my little girl. Other mothers of mixed children who had similar hair or who had experience with her texture of hair would suggest all sorts of things: coconut oil, conditioners, sprays, gels. But, I quickly learned that there are a wide range of differences in mixed children's hair. Some might have perfectly straight hair, while others might have tight little curls - and both types need different love. My daughter has tight, soft curls around her face and the top of her head, and hair that's a bit drier and prone to knots in the back.

Even when their suggestions and comments don't apply, I sometimes get a bit flustered when someone feels the need to talk to me about my daughter's hair. It's like any other time someone tries to give you unsolicited parenting advice - it makes me self-conscious and sometimes ashamed. I worry that people think I don't understand that her hair is different than mine, or think that I've just not done a good job. As any parent knows, there are days when everything goes wrong, so we've just rushed out of the house. On days like that, her hair might be looking dry and just out of sorts (aka a bad hair day), and the comments on those days always cut especially deep. I feel as if that stranger is saying that I can't take care of my mixed girl and how she looks. Most of the time, I know these people don't mean for me to feel this way, and that I'm just being sensitive. But I want to be seen for knowing her and understanding how she is different from me - and for recognizing the special care she needs for her hair, skin, and body.

And over the years, I've heard it all. I've been told to put relaxer in her hair to make her curls not so "big." I've been told to comb it everyday with leave-in conditioner and a brush. I've been told to use all different types of combs. But through our four years of trial, error, advice, and feedback, I've learned that what works best for my daughter's hair type is very simple: condition, condition, and condition some more, then finger-comb.

Ideally, I would condition my daughter's hair daily and finger comb it while wet and with the conditioner in her hair. But spending 20 minutes on her hair in the tub is not her favorite thing to do, so I do this process every few days. In order to work the conditioner in, I have to really soak her hair, which can take a while. Once her hair is fully wet, I work through a conditioner, usually either one for dry hair or one for hair repair, and one without unneeded chemicals and fragrance. The real key for us is to not rinse the conditioner out, even though it's not formulated as a leave-in conditioner. I find this best keeps her hair soft and her curls bouncy. While she's in the tub with the conditioner soaking, I finger-comb through her knots and curls. This can take a while, depending on how many days it's been since we last washed her hair, if she's been playing outside (wind, dirt, and leaves are not kind!), or had her hair up. But always finger combing! That is the trick that works best. If I use any other type of brush or comb, it breaks up her curls and makes her hair a bit drier and frizzier. So while finger combing doesn't always get all of the knots out, it works best for her curl pattern for now.

While I'd prefer to do bath time before bed, if she falls asleep with a wet head full of curls, she'll wake up and the work we did is lost. So I make a point to only wash her hair in the afternoon or morning. And by washed I mean conditioned - I rarely use shampoo with her. I only break it out when we've had a particularly dirty day (an afternoon spent rolling down hills comes to mind).

It's taken some time but I think I've finally figured out how to help treat her curls so they really shine. However, I'm still learning in many other areas: like how to avoid knots at bedtime. I've tried velvet caps, silk scarfs, and putting her hair in braids, but they haven't worked well for us yet. So, if anyone out there has a little advice, send it our way! For now though, we'll continue our little routine and keep learning - hopefully showing my daughter just how beautiful and special her big, bouncy curls are!

The Heartwarming Reason Dove Cameron Changed Her Name When She Started Acting

Disney Channel fans are probably already familiar with Dove Cameron's name. The 23-year-old actress and singer first got her start playing twins on Liv and Maddie and Mal in the Disney Channel original movie Descendants. Since then, she has gone on to have roles on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., in Netflix's Dumplin', and even off-Broadway as Cher in Clueless.

While her name is certainly becoming more recognizable in the industry, what you might not know is that her birth name isn't actually Dove. The actress was born Chloe Celeste Hosterman but decided to legally change it when she got into acting. She explained the heartbreaking backstory on social media, saying that "Dove" was actually a nickname her dad, Philip Hosterman, used to call her.

"My father passed away a few years ago, right around the time I started acting," she explained in an Instagram post in 2014. "So, I decided to change it legally in honor of him, which gives me great joy every day that I was able to do something so lasting and permanent to pay homage to his memory."
