This Cleansing Butter Has Nearly 300 5-Star Reviews and Costs Less Than $10

When you find a product good enough to repurchase three times and counting, there's only one thing to do: rave about it, which is exactly what I'm going to do when it comes to The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter ($10). I've tried many a gel, balm, and oil cleanser in my time, and this is by far my favorite cleansing balm, and best of all, it only costs $10. The balm doesn't boast a solid five-star rating for nothing, and it's been a favorite of skincare expert Caroline Hirons for six years. It delivers what it says on the tin: "Cleanses and nourishes the skin without leaving a trace of makeup."

My Skin Type

Before delving into the details, a bit about my skin: I have a mostly dry skin type but am prone to both hormonal breakouts and blocked pores, which can lead to small pimples and the occasional big spot. I like to use oils rather than foaming cleansers, and (when possible) I try to avoid anything with alcohol or essential oils.

How I Incorporate The Body Shop's Cleansing Butter Into My Routine

For my evening cleanse, I use about a quarter-size amount of The Body Shop's cleansing butter for my entire face and neck, massaging onto dry skin for about 30 seconds. I then wash this off gently using lukewarm water and a soft muslin cloth. I follow this with a second cleanse, typically with something slightly creamier, such as Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturizing Cleanser ($38). Once my makeup is completely removed, my skin doesn't feel dry or tight, which is a must for my skin type.

The Body Shop's Cleansing Butter Ingredients

The key ingredients include ethylhexyl palmitate, an emollient that gives the product its buttery texture (OK for dry skin types but not ideal for oily skin types), followed by PEG-20 glyceryl triisostearate, which gives the cleanser its oily texture without leaving any greasy residue on the skin. Additionally, the product contains plenty of oils, including olive and sunflower, plus chamomile, which helps to soothe irritated skin. I find that the combination of ingredients doesn't irritate my skin at all. One thing to note is that it does contain fragrance, so if you know you're sensitive to perfumes, it might be something to patch test before introducing into your routine.

My Experience With The Body Shop's Cleansing Butter

I love this cleanser because it doesn't feel greasy (most balms take a hot minute to remove and can leave a slippery feeling on the skin), it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, it doesn't clog my pores (even though I'm prone to this), and it removes all my makeup (however, I do prefer to use micellar water for the days I wear heavy eye makeup). The product also lasts a really long time - about four to five months for me because a little goes a long way. And finally - true to The Body Shop values - the packaging is totally sustainable. It comes in a medium-size tin, which is made from aluminum so it's fully recyclable (or reusable if you're in need of a handy tin).

All in all, if you're looking for a no-fuss, nonirritating cleansing balm (for dry and combination skin) to remove makeup effectively, and you don't want to spend a lot of money, The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter is a great option.

20 Saturday Night Live Hosts Who Just Couldn't Keep Their Sh*t Together

Hosting Saturday Night Live is a challenge, which is maybe why there are so many instances of SNL hosts breaking character. Over the decades, a who's who of Hollywood actors, music stars, and comedy legends have hosted the sketch comedy show and participated in the skits. Coming up against the masterful comedy of the show's cast is often too much for these hosts to handle, as they break character and get the giggles because of their costars' antics. If we're being honest, it's even funnier when they can't keep a straight face - they're just like the rest of us! If your day could use some hearty laughs, keep reading for 20 of the funniest moments of SNL hosts breaking character over the years.

I Love My Small Family, but the Holiday Season Always Makes Me Sad There Aren't More of Us

My family is really small - think Gilmore Girls not Parenthood. My parents got divorced when I was 5, my dad moved out, my mom subsequently painted the house magenta pink, and every Friday night involved chick flicks and take-out. Our tiny clan is now mostly made of myself, my mom, and my twin sister.

And while I love my family and they are my everything, come the holiday season, I sometimes have a hard time recognizing the value of quality over quantity. My mom, sister, and I celebrate together, of course. And while my parents are divorced, my dad has tagged along for the festivities in recent years. It's unconventional, somewhat civil, and only slightly awkward. My mom's best friend, our anointed aunt and godmother, plays a large role in our lives, but she always spends the holidays with her blood relatives. All of my grandparents are no longer with us, unfortunately, and the rest of our relatives either live too far away or do their own thing, so it is most often just our little bunch.

Like most things, there are absolute joys as well as partial anguishes to having a small family during the holiday season. For one thing, the dress code is completely casual. We mostly just stay home, which means I get to pick when to change out of my pajamas (or if I even bother). We have holiday movie marathons all night long; the feast is flexible since there is no need for a fancy menu. By the same token, it is a lot cheaper.

But my favorite part about the holidays are the traditions my itty-bitty jolly crew has formed. We are Jewish and in true stereotypical fashion, we celebrate Christmas by going to the movies and then out for Chinese food. Mornings start with bagels and lox and then onto the movie, which was presumably debated over for months - my dad is a historical-drama-slash-indie cinephile while my mom always lobbies for a feel-good (the 2017 dispute between The Greatest Showman and The Darkest Hour will forever live in infamy). Christmas dinner is always had at our favorite Szechuan place where we make our reservations in September but somehow we still have to fight through a crowd in the lobby to get to our table. I couldn't imagine how much harder it would be for a big family to go through all that: finding seats together in the theater or waiting for a table for a party of five or more - so I'm grateful that my small and nimble crew makes my favorite tradition possible.

Another favorite holiday tradition is the gift exchange my mom, sister, and I have with my pseudo-aunt. Every year, after my aunt returns home from visiting her family across the country, usually after Christmas but before New Year's, we get together at her house for a post-holiday fiesta. We wait until then to exchange our carefully picked out presents and enjoy my aunt's famous elaborate cheese boards. My sister and I still wear the ribbons from the gift wrap around our neck like we did when we were little. It is the perfect testament to how we can make our own family sometimes.

But while I wouldn't trade our idiosyncratic rituals for anything, I still tend to get lonely around this time of year. I have in my head this idyllic holiday image: a warm and fuzzy shot of a big family sitting at the big table sharing a big feast wearing big smiles across their faces. I love the idea, and can't help but feel a bit of resentment towards this image. I'm very used to my small family, but that's because I don't know anything else. I always wondered what it was like to be close with cousins or have so many aunts and uncles you mix up names. The last time I watched Home Alone I actually felt jealous of poor little Macaulay Culkin - what a joy to be in a family so big they forget you at home.

But when it comes down to it, I'd never trade away my magenta childhood with Friday night romantic comedies and quirky Kosher Christmases for a picture-perfect Christmas. There is, however, a melancholic downside to family gatherings in small volumes; all of that togetherness can sometimes create tension and bring about uncomfortable confrontations. When we first started spending the holidays with my dad, it brought up past resentments and bad memories. (The thing about families is that they're complicated, and that doesn't just go away when you serve a slice of homemade pie at a holiday gathering.) And while I wish that my family lived up to that image in my head, I've learned that it's more important to make our own families and our own traditions. And at the end of the day, it's a privilege to be here and to all be together, whether your family is big or small, and I believe that alone should be celebrated with courage and with care.

2020's Take on Last Year's Biggest Haircut Trend: The "Soft Blunt" Bob

Bob haircuts were to 2019 what Juicy Couture tracksuits were to 2001: abso-f*cking-lutely everywhere. Within the last 365 days, we saw cuts that were blunt! Shaggy! A-line or inverted! Diffuse-dried, flipped-under, and styled in every which way imaginable. (Celebrity hairstylist David Lopez summed up the trend's versatility perfectly: "Many, many bobs happened in 2019.") Still, like most things in life, there's plenty of room for growth - and the style is going to look slightly different in 2020.

"Shorter lengths will continue to reign with softer edges and more movement, but this year bob haircuts will become softer and a little more grown out," he said. "I like to call it the 'soft blunt' bob, where the perimeter of the haircut looks thick but is slightly piece-y."

If you're looking for some variation in the new year (and, if you liked any of the 1,298 takes on the trend, why wouldn't you be?) you're going to want to check out these cute-as-hell soft blunt bob haircuts, below.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Went to the Hospital After Cutting Fingers While Cooking

Chrissy Teigen definitely knows how to host a dinner party, and if I'm ever lucky enough to get an invite to her house, then you can bet I'm staying for seconds. In a video posted to her Cravings YouTube channel on Friday, Chrissy shared the recipe to her sweet 'n' salty plantains made two ways - is anyone else's mouth watering profusely yet?

While making salty plantain chips - which she recommends covering in coconut oil before baking, by the way - Chrissy told the story of the time she and John Legend both managed to cut off the tips of their fingers with a mandolin and had to head to the hospital to have their digits reattached. Here I thought I was hazardous to myself in the kitchen. After the unexpected story, Chrissy goes on to share her recipe for sweet plantains, and recommends serving them with scotch bonnet pepper hot sauce. Yum! Watch the full video here.

Daenerys Targaryen's White Fur Coat Foreshadowed Her Descent Into Madness All Along

For any Daenerys Targaryen stans still reeling over that controversial Game of Thrones series finale, it looks like the Mother of Dragons' fate was foreshadowed long before Jon Snow showed up with a knife. In an interview with TV Guide, Emmy-winning costume designer Michele Clapton revealed that Daenerys's white fur coat in the season eight premiere was a huge hint at her transformation into the Mad Queen. More than a few Reddit users caught onto the significance of Daenerys's wardrobe while the series was still on air, and we should have known our Khaleesi was going to lose control all along.

"When she arrives and descends on this dragon, she is this sort of angel of mercy."

"Initially it was about the idea that if she's riding a dragon to the North, she should be warm," Clapton said. "And then I decided that actually it's the first time she's performed a completely selfless task - because it's usually for her own gain - and on this occasion, it was actually for her love. So, I loved this idea, as I developed this costume, that it's almost [as if] she sees herself as this savior, this angel. And so when she arrives and descends on this dragon, she is this sort of angel of mercy. I think it just said so much about her mental state at the time, how she saw herself."

Clapton wanted the white fabric of Daenerys's coat to represent purity, while also calling attention to her coldness. It's through the coat that we see Daenerys's parallels to the White Walkers and better understand how she perceives herself as a savior, not just to Jon, but to all of Westeros. See Clapton's full video ahead to hear more about Daenerys' coat and to see original sketches of the symbolic design.
