This Easy 5-Ingredient Almond Butter Sauce Is Perfect For Noodles or a Quick Stir Fry

Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Chanel Vargas

As much as I love peanut butter, I rarely have any available when I want to whip up a batch of peanut butter cookies for a midday snack or a tasty peanut sauce to go with dinner, which is how this delicious almond butter sauce came to be. The sauce, perfect for coating rice or noodles or using as a dip for spring rolls, has quickly become one of my favorite homemade recipes, and it only takes five minutes to make!

Aside from a drizzle of tamari - or soy sauce, if you aren't gluten-free - you only need a few spices to turn your favorite almond butter into a savory and tasty sauce to make dinner just a little bit more special. I, for one, will probably be enjoying it over a noodle-filled plate of chicken and veggies very soon. Keep reading to find out how to whip up a bowl of this creamy condiment for yourself.

Bump, Set, Spike: A Pro Women's Volleyball League Is Coming to the US in 2021

We're soaking up all the good sports news we can find right now, and this definitely qualifies: an American women's indoor volleyball league has officially come together and is due to start playing in February 2021.

Athletes Unlimited Volleyball is set to be a partnership between USA Volleyball and Athletes Unlimited, a company looking to change the face of pro sports through major structural changes such as faster play and a focus on individual athletes as opposed to location-based teams. (The company has already announced plans for an inaugural women's softball league to start play in August 2020.) The volleyball league will follow an inventive structure in which individual players earn points for every win. Four top-performing players will be named captains and tasked with choosing new rosters every week. Instead of traveling from city to city, each game in the six-week league will be played at a single site.

The new league has already attracted USA Volleyball players Molly McCage, Foluke Akinradewo, and Jordan Larson, the latter two bronze and silver medalists from the past two Olympic Games, with more US stars and recent NCAA grads expected to sign on. "I've been a professional volleyball athlete for a decade now," Akinradewo told the Associated Press. "Every time we want to . . . play professionally we have to leave the country to do it." Playing professionally at home will be "so special," said Akinradewo, who currently competes in a pro Japanese league. (She told AP she plans to continue doing so while participating in the new league.)

Since the '80s, various attempts have been made to start pro American indoor volleyball leagues, most recently the Premier Volleyball League, which appears to have folded following its 2016 season. The new league and its player-focused format is outside the box compared to previous attempts, but the experimentation is a welcome change for players. "They're empowering the athletes," Akinradewo said. "We get to kind of determine the rules and we have a big say in things. It's really the opposite of the life we're living overseas."

Iskra Lawrence Compares Life Before and After Baby: "Nothing Could Have Gotten Me Ready"

Iskra Lawrence and her boyfriend Philip Payne announced the birth of their first child on April 19, and two weeks later the model is getting real about childbirth and life with a newborn. On Monday, Iskra shared a touching and vulnerable message about her recovery and adjustment period.

Iskra began her Instagram post by recognizing that she's in a position of incredible privilege and she's thankful for her baby's health, as well as her own. "But I really want to share all the realness of my journey since becoming a momma because these two weeks have felt like the most challenging of my life," she wrote. "I never imagined how much my wonderful tiny human struggling with colic would affect me and all of the postpartum changes."

Iskra says she felt prepared for pregnancy but her baby's experience with colic brought all new challenges. "NOTHING could have gotten me ready emotional and mentally to see the love of our lives screaming, bright red, whole body tense and seemingly in discomfort for hours a day and not getting enough sleep," she wrote.

"I must have ordered every product that says it can soothe colicky babies (I feel so privileged to be able to afford that luxury) as well as the most patient incredible daddy @philipapayne who I can't put into words because I'll cry but is the best team mate I could have dreamt of," she said, referring to her boyfriend of two years. "Posted these side by side because this is my current reality.. maybe 1 shampoo a week, still living in my adult diapers (because yes you bleed for weeks after birth) sleep deprivation, leaky nips + hormonal acne."

Iskra ended her post by emphasizing her gratitude for her newborn and acknowledging that life will get easier. "I hope by sharing my struggles and being vulnerable some of you going through it feel less alone and know it's ok to not be ok."

Latin Music Is Taking Over the US, and I’m Not Mad About It

Last year, in an interview with Cali y El Dandee who are both performers and producers of some of the greatest Latin hits you've heard (yes, including "Despacito"), I asked them why they thought Latin music was having this moment worldwide, and they said that there's a lot of good competition.

The emergence of many valuable artists at the same time forced everyone to work harder and push themselves. Add to that the fact that Latin artists weren't scared to revolutionize the sound and merge different genres to create something fresher and stronger. Once the rhythms and the melodies were set, language stopped being a barrier.

They were onto something. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)'s just-released 2019 Year-End US Latin Music Revenues Report, the revenues of US Latin music market saw an increase of 28 percent to a total of $554 million, its highest level since 2006. The Latin market grew at a faster rate than the overall US music market, which had a growth of 13 percent.

Streaming became the dominant format in Latin music in the US, which accounted for 95 percent of total Latin music revenues in 2019. Latin music also accounted for 5 percent of the total $11.1 billion US recorded music business, an increase versus 4.4 percent in 2018.

The most notable growth in streaming for US Latin music was in the paid subscription category - which includes Apple Music, Spotify Premium, and Amazon Unlimited - contributing to 65 percent of the revenue, with a growth of 36 percent. The on-demand, ad-supported services - YouTube and ad-supported Spotify - accounted for 23 percent of Latin music streaming revenues.

Out of the 30 most-viewed videos, "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee is no. 1, with "Bailando" by Enrique Iglesias, Descemer Bueno, and Gente de Zona; "Mi Gente" by J Balvin and Willy William; "Chantaje" by Shakira and Maluma; and "Waka Waka" by Shakira and Freshlyground joining it.

In 2019, YouTube's top 5 most-viewed videos were all Latin music. Daddy Yankee and Snow's "Con Calma" was no.1, followed by "Con Altura" by Rosalía, J Balvin, and El Güincho; "China" by Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, and Karol G featuring Ozuna and J Balvin; "No Me Conoce (Remix)" by Jhay Cortez featuring J Balvin and Bad Bunny; and "Secreto" by Anuel AA and Karol G.

Spotify's top 50 tracks of 2019 also saw the influence of Latin music, with Daddy Yankee and Snow's "Con Calma" making an appearance, as well as "Calma – Remix" by Pedro Capó featuring Farruko, "Taki Taki" by DJ Snake featuring Selena Gomez, Ozuna, and Cardi B, "Callaíta" by Bad Bunny and Tainy, "MIA" by Bad Bunny featuring Drake, "Secreto" by Anuel AA and Karol G, "China" by Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, and Karol G featuring Ozuna and J Balvin, "Otro Trago" by Sech and Darell, "Soltera – Remix" by Lunay, Daddy Yankee, and Bad Bunny, and "Adán y Eva" by Paulo Londra.

This is all to show that our music continues to grow stronger, and you don't need language to understand the feeling that Latin music is transmitting. You just need an open heart and a desire to be transported to a new world full of possibilities, opportunities, and a lot of gozadera.

Oops, Dog Dad Chris Evans Butchered His Pup Dodger's Haircut: "He Hasn't Seen a Mirror Yet"

During a time when dyeing your hair wild colors and giving yourself bangs is more than encouraged, Chris Evans has made a disastrous doggy beauty faux pas. In an attempt to make his pup feel like he came fresh from the groomer's during the stay at home order, Chris made the same mistake as every child who's ever been left alone with a pair of clippers, and . . . you just have to see the damage for yourself.

"I assured him I knew what I was doing," Chris captioned the photo of Dodger on Twitter. "He seemed skeptical at first, but with the help of a few treats, I talked him into it. It went so wrong, so fast. I guess some things are better left to the professionals." While Dodger hasn't had the chance to look in the mirror yet, Chris says he's reassured his pup that the new 'do looks great. In Chris's defense, the rest of the haircut (fur cut?) looks pretty good! Let's just hope Dodger doesn't walk past any dog-height mirrors anytime soon.

Jim Parsons and Husband Todd Spiewak Are Super Low-Key but Incredibly Sweet

Jim Parsons, known for his award-winning role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, has an equally talented and equally low-key other half as his biggest cheerleader: his husband, Todd Spiewak. Todd, who is an Emmy-nominated producer himself, met Jim back in 2002 on a blind date. At the time, Todd was working as a graphic designer in the advertising industry, and he and Jim hit it off on their karaoke date.

Todd holds a BFA in graphic design from Boston University and worked on campaigns with notable brands like American Express, Barnes & Noble, and The New York Times. In the years since Todd and Jim have been together, Todd has moved into the TV industry, and his most notable project is as executive producer for the show Young Sheldon. He and Jim also own their own production company called That's Wonderful Productions that they started in 2015.

As a couple, Jim and Todd remain pretty private about their lives, even forbidding cell phones at their wedding in 2017. They wed at New York City's famed Rainbow Room in May of that year after Jim had dealt with fielding questions for years about whether or not the two would get married. The couple do show up on red carpets together from time to time, especially to support organizations they care about, like GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network, which honored them both with the Inspiration Award in 2013. Check out some of the other events the two have gone to together in the gallery ahead.

A Judge Ruled Against the USWNT's Equal-Pay Lawsuit, but They Won't Stop Fighting

On Friday May 1, US District Judge Gary Klausner ruled against the US Women's National Team in their ongoing gender discrimination lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation. Bringing you up to speed, on March 8, 2019, all 28 members of the USWNT filed a class-action lawsuit, suing the US Soccer Federation for years-long gender discrimination, stating that they had been paid less money than their male counterparts because of their gender.

In March 2020, the USSF filed a response to the gender discrimination lawsuit stating, "The job of MNT [Men's National Team] player requires a higher level of skill based on speed and strength than does the job of WNT team player." (You can find the full document provided by BuzzFeed News here.) Unhappy with this remark, the USWNT protested by wearing their warm up shirts inside out during the final match of the SheBelieves Cup. Due to the negative backlash in response to these comments, Carlos Cordeiro, the then-US Soccer president resigned.

Most recently, Judge Klausner ruled against the USWNT's equal-pay claim, stating that the players "have not demonstrated a triable issue that WNT players are paid less than MNT players." Klausner's ruling was based off of the findings that the USWNT players were paid more than their male counterparts in total and on a per-game basis during the period in question, according to ESPN. Additionally, Klausner concluded that the difference in pay between the men's and women's teams was due to choices made by the women's team and their union, and not due to discrimination.

Although the equal-pay claim has been thrown out, Judge Klausner ruled that the Title VII discrimination claim the USWNT filed - which pertains to unequal work conditions - can still go to trial.

"We are shocked and disappointed with today's decision but we will not give up our hard work for equal pay," Molly Levinson, spokeswoman for the USWNT tweeted. Levinson also said the USWNT plans on appealing the decision. This may be a temporary hurdle for the USWNT but we know they will continue to chmapion equality for the USWNT and women athletes worldwide. In light of the ruling, Megan Rapinoe tweeted, "We will never stop fighting for equality."

Not Wanting to Delay Their Special Day, These Brides Instead Got Married at a Drive-In Theater

Amid movie theater closures and early on-demand releases, many have contemplated the newfound convenience of drive-in theaters. During a time of social distancing, can these retro arenas offer a new solution? As it turns out, they can offer so much more.

Bri and Lindsey Leaverton were set to get married in Austin on April 10, but, like many other couples, they were forced to postpone due to the coronavirus pandemic. The day before what would have been their wedding, a family member tested positive for the virus, so Bri and Lindsey decided to not delay their nuptials any longer. In an interview with local news station KVUE, Lindsey said they realized, "We're not promised tomorrow and we don't want to wait." Said family member has thankfully since tested negative, but the news was a wake-up call nonetheless.

That's when the couple crafted a new plan: getting married at Doc's Drive-In Theater, surrounded by 90 parked cars carrying their wedding guests. Only a few people, including their officiant and Lindsey's twin daughters, were physically present for the ceremony, but a live stream made it so that the special milestone could be projected onto the theater's screens, and those at home were also able to tune in. "It allowed us to invite more people to our other wedding that we had planned," Bri said.

"We witnessed the truth behind the famous saying 'Love wins.'"

Of course, the day wasn't without its difficult moments. "There was a moment when I saw my parents in their car, I completely got choked up overwhelmed with emotion . . . I loved that they were there, but it killed me not being able to embrace them," Lindsey said. Even so, Lindsey added, "I think we made some really sweet lemonade, out of some really rotten lemons." In a touching post shared to their joint Instagram account the day after their wedding, Bri and Lindsey wrote, "Last night was nothing short of memorable, profound, and historic. We witnessed the truth behind the famous saying 'Love wins.'" The caption continued, "Love is the most powerful force on the planet. And there's no way we could've planned this pop up wedding in 17 days without our beloved vendors, partners, family and friends."

Enjoy photos from Bri and Lindsey's socially distanced, but utterly beautiful drive-in wedding ahead.

Why My 10+ Year Love Affair With Self Tanner Hasn't Stopped While Social-Distancing

Like many of you reading this right now, I've been social distancing for three weeks and counting. I've been outside four times in the past week, and, in that time, I haven't spoken to anyone else face-to-face, in the flesh, but my partner. So why would I bother going to the effort of self-tanning while social-distancing? There are a few reasons, but the main one being, because I f*cking can.

I've been a self-tan devotee since I was about 14 years old. In my teens, I was a competitive Irish dancer, which meant spray tans and slapping on Fake Bake Flawless Darker Liquid was a regular part of my routine. Faux tan was my uniform (no, seriously, it was a competing essential), and while the product takes up a much smaller portion of my schedule now, it's still very much a part of my life (thankfully, I use a lot less of the stuff now), whether I'm social distancing or not.

Here I am, declaring that: I, Tori Crowther, am still dedicating one evening a week to exfoliating away old tan, re-applying a fresh layer, and begging my boyfriend to tan my back. Then, I put on an old pair of PJs, and let my tan marinate for eight hours while I get some kip, before washing it off the next morning. All so I can feel just a smidgen better about myself for the week ahead. This is, based on what I've seen on Instagram lately, I don't think I'm alone.

"Tan takes us emotionally and psychologically to a happy place. It reminds us of honeymoons, holidays, hot summer days, and long-lasting memories of special occasions."

Why do I do it? The first reason is for the control. I may not be able to control the fact that I can't commute to work, see friends and family, or even sit at a park bench, but I can control my beauty routine. It's no secret that humans find comfort in routine and structure. If, before all this, you regularly spent a portion of your day styling your hair, following a skincare routine, or applying a layer of self-tanner, continuing to do so might just bring a sense of normalcy to this new normal. It certainly has to mine.

The second reason is because it makes me feel good. I prefer the way I look when I have a light, bronzed glow. "Tan takes us emotionally and psychologically to a happy place. It reminds us of honeymoons, holidays, hot summer days, and long lasting memories of special occasions," says Marc Elrick, founder of Tan Luxe. And I agree. Because while I won"t be attending holidays or special family occasions in person for a period of time, I can still embrace the pre-rituals of these events. No one said we can't get all dressed up and join the family for a virtual Sunday dinner.

My relationship to self-tan was the same back in 2012 after I suffered an accident that pretty much left me housebound (though not to the same extent as self-isolation) for months. I vividly remember (once I was well enough, of course), my mom taking me to get a spray tan to cheer me up. There was no special occasion, she just knew it would perk me up. And guess what? It truly did. I've held that gesture close to my heart ever since.

Lastly, self-tanning takes up time. And right now, anything that takes up a portion of my time in the evening is a positive in my opinion. I take my sweet time, I use new products (which is also part of my job as beauty editor - win win), and I enjoy every second of it.

And I'm not the only one who feels this way, either: According to Elrick, in March, Tan-Luxe had its best month ever despite the pandemic. Whatever the reason, people want to continue their tanning rituals despite not attending after-work events, boozy brunches at the weekend, or going on dates.

So, may we continue to self-tan ourselves, only to sit in our favorite joggers, and eat all of the biscuits while re-watching Louis Theroux's best documentaries. You'll know you're a golden goddess underneath that sweatshirt - and that's what really matters.
