I Have to Say, Robert Pattinson's Role as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter Is Highly Underrated

Years before he literally dazzled us onscreen as Edward Cullen in Twilight and even before he took on the lead role in The Batman, Robert Pattinson was fighting crime and channeling his supernatural abilities as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. At just 17 years old, Cedric sacrificed himself to Voldemort to give Harry the chance to escape and warn the rest of Hogwarts of the Dark Lord's return, breaking the hearts of Harry Potter fans (myself included) around the world in 2005. Despite Cedric's notable influence in the fourth film, Pattinson's role is often overshadowed by the legacy of the sparkling stalker vampire he would later go on to play in 2008. Still, I think Pattinson's role as one of the most memorable wizards in Hufflepuff history deserves credit where credit is due.

If you've seen the movies, then you know Cedric doesn't have many lines. In fact, Pattinson only gets eight minutes of screen time throughout the entire 157-minute film, making it easy for some to overlook his character. But it's important to remember that Pattinson's character was a well-liked prefect, captain of the Hufflepuff quidditch team, and chosen as one of four Triwizard Cup champions. From this point, he went to take on the tournament's three deadly tasks alongside Harry, Beauxbatons's Fleur Delacour, and Durmstrang's Viktor Krum, proving himself to be more than just the popular kid or a handsome face.

Harry was deeply affected by his death, but it gave Harry and the rest of the wizarding world the incentive they needed all along to take Voldemort's return seriously and prepare for the impending war.

The first task of the tournament requires the competitors to face off with a dragon and retrieve a magical golden egg. Ahead of the task, Harry and the other champions, minus Cedric, are given intel to prepare them for the dragon duel. In order to keep the tournament fair, Harry tips Cedric off about the dragons, potentially saving his life. Before the second task, the champions are required to crack the secret hidden within the golden egg in the form of a merperson's song.

Harry is the last to figure out the riddle, and he only does so after Cedric gives him an obvious hint about opening the egg underwater in the prefect's bathroom. Here, Cedric had the option to keep the egg's secret hidden and give himself an advantage over Harry. But in giving Harry a clue, he repays the younger wizard for his initial kindness and better prepares him for saving Ron in the Black Lake. Seeing Cedric extend this gesture of kindness made me respect him as more than just a cute wizard or a Hufflepuff prefect because it proves he values fairness and generosity over success, which is something that still lingers in the back of my mind years later.

During the third task, the champions must make their way through an overgrown maze littered with magical obstacles. Each of them sets off on their own, but Harry encounters Cedric when he hears him being tortured by Viktor Krum, who Barty Crouch Jr. - disguised as Mad Eye Moody - is controlling with dark magic. Harry saves Cedric by stunning Viktor before moving forward to approach the Triwizard Cup at the same time as his opponent. But before Cedric, who is slightly in the lead, can reach the cup, he's attacked by an Acromantula. Together, Harry and Cedric defeat the giant spider, which serves as a testament to both Harry and Cedric's good nature and ability to work as a team to benefit each other.

Afterward, Cedric insists Harry deserves the Triwizard Cup for saving his life twice within the maze. At first, I wondered why Cedric wouldn't just take the cup for himself, since he clearly arrived first and could have earned himself the title of Triwizard Champion in a heartbeat. Now, I realize that Cedric was going against the grain of the popular jock stereotype by being a good friend and thanking Harry for his sacrifices, providing an inspiring display of his integrity and kindness.

Throughout these climactic moments, Pattinson's pained facial expressions and thoughtfully delivered lines add to the love we as viewers have for Cedric, making him feel as real in our minds as he is on the screen. Cedric's most memorable scene by far, though, occurs when he and Harry are teleported by the cup - which was a portkey in disguise placed there by Barty Crouch Jr. - to the graveyard in Little Hangleton, where Tom Riddle's family once lived. When they arrive, Peter Pettigrew immediately attacks them, killing Cedric instantly per the orders of a weakened Voldemort. Had Cedric taken the Triwizard Cup for himself, his body never would have been recovered from Little Hangleton, and Harry and Hogwarts would never have been warned about Voldemort's return.

If sweet, polite, Hufflepuff Cedric Diggory had been that boy next door to sweep me off my feet with his Nimbus 2000, I would have happily flown off into the sunset with him.

Following his death, Cedric is remembered as decent, kind, and good-hearted by all who knew him. More than that, Harry was deeply affected by his death, but it gave Harry and the rest of the wizarding world the incentive they needed all along to take Voldemort's return seriously and prepare for the impending war. In the end, Cedric's death was kind of the catalyst for Hogwarts's organized resistance against the Dark Lord, making his character more meaningful than most give him credit for.

As a kid, I used to desperately hope imagine what it'd be like if I somehow discovered I had magical powers all along, or what it'd be like if I encountered someone with secret supernatural abilities. If sweet, polite, Hufflepuff Cedric Diggory had been that boy next door to sweep me off my feet with his Nimbus 2000, I would have happily flown off into the sunset with him. I also would have happily partook in a spinoff series focused on Cedric and his life as a Hufflepuff at Hogwarts, but I digress. Pattinson's role as Cedric had a lasting impact on the Harry Potter series and fandom. He brought to the table everything readers of the books were hoping for when his character was introduced, and I raise my wand to him for making my childhood that much more magical.

DWTS's Gleb Savchenko and His Wife Have a Fairy Tale Romance Off the Ballroom Floor

Dancing With the Stars season 29 is picking up, and many fans are rooting for Chrishell Stause and her partner Gleb Savchenko. From their rumba to their Cinderella-themed dance during Disney night, it's clear they make an incredible team. When Gleb isn't making us soon as Prince Charming, he has a fairy-tale romance of his own off the ballroom floor. The 37-year-old is married to dancer and choreographer Elena Samodanova. Just like her husband, Elena is part of the DWTS family. She was a choreographer and judge on DWTS Russia and served as a creative director for the DWTS Live tour in 2016.

Fittingly, the couple actually met through dancing! "We've danced together for more than 10 years and we've been married more than 10 years, so we learn how to separate work and home," Gleb told Entertainment Tonight in 2017. The couple tied the knot in 2006 and have since welcomed two daughters named Olivia and Zlata. Ahead, see some of Gleb and Elena's cutest pictures together.

I Feel So Much Better Knowing This Yoga Mat Bag Keeps My Mat Germ-Free

Since the novel coronavirus pandemic, I'm much more aware of how many surfaces we encounter that can carry germs or viruses. One I never considered before was my yoga mat. Sure, I cleaned the top of it after each use but never thought about what may be lurking on the bottom of the mat.

Think about it - whether you're using your mat in your living room, garage, or studio, what do you when you're finished? My guess is you roll it up as I've always done. But this simple, seemingly ordinary act can cover your workout with unwanted germs and dirt. When we roll up our mats, whatever lies on the ground under them is then transferred to the top where it waits patiently to move to our hands, face, and body during our next workout. Gross! These days, my yoga mat sees the most action in my garage, and I don't even want to think about what's on that floor.

That's why I was relieved to learn about the Carry Your Om Yoga Mat Bag ($40), which incorporates a full-length mat liner, so the bottom of your mat never touches the top of your mat. The patent-pending design prevents the germs underneath your mat from getting to the top of your mat, while also giving you an easy way to carry and store it.

How does it work? Instead of rolling up your mat when you're finished and putting it in a bag, you lay the liner on the top of the mat, then roll it up. Zip it closed to keep the mat in place and adjust the strap to carry it however you want. There's also a zipper pocket on the exterior for a phone, keys, wallet, etc.

Now I can work out on the ground without the ground finding its way on me. Give this mat a try, and you can rest easy knowing the dirt and germs on your floor won't tarnish all those cleansing breaths you took in your practice.

Strengthen Your Abs in 10 Minutes With This Equipment-Free Pilates Workout

Planks are one of the best ab-strengthening exercises you can do, but doing them every time you work out can get boring. To continue to challenge and strengthen your abs, Khetanya Henderson, Speir Pilates classical Pilates mat- and reformer-certified trainer, Glo instructor, created this 10-minute Pilates bodyweight ab workout. "The purpose of this workout is to improve core strength and spinal mobility," Henderson told POPSUGAR.

Khetanya Henderson's 10-Minute Ab Workout

Move at your own pace and take as much time as you need to perform each exercise. "Connection of mind and body is most important for Pilates work," Henderson emphasized. After you've finished the workout, you can cool down with a gentle stretching routine.

Will Smith's Family Received an Award From Robin Williams's Kids, in Memory of Their Dad

Robin Williams's kids, Zachary, Cody, and Zelda, are honoring their father's memory by continuing to spread joy and honor those who do the same. On Oct. 5, Will Smith posted a YouTube video with his wife, Jada, and kids Trey, Willow, and Jaden (on FaceTime) as they became the fourth recipients of the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award. "From one genie family to another," Zachary said in his opening message, applauding the Smiths.

The Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award, in partnership with nonprofit organization Bring Change to Mind, is given to noteworthy individuals in the entertainment world who exemplify service and embody the "best sparks" of the late actor. Billy Crystal was the first to receive the award in 2017, followed by Whoopi Goldberg, and then Ben Stiller in 2019. The Smith crew reflected on all of the laughter they've shared together in the sweet clip, and some of their favorite memories are linked to Robin. "It's crazy that he's impacted our lives generationally," Jada noted. Watch the full video above to hear the Smiths remember a legend.

Here's Princess Diana's Wedding Dress in The Crown - and It Looks Exceptionally Accurate

If you've been keeping up with The Crown, then you know that Emma Corrin plays Diana Spencer in season four; and that means that we will see her get married to Prince Charles, just in case you were excited to gear up for the recreation of what would be considered the wedding of the century. After all, this was a major historic moment for the British monarchy, as it marked the first time a British citizen married an heir since 1660.

Diana walked down the aisle in an incredible ivory silk Elizabeth and David Emanuel-designed wedding dress at Buckingham Palace on July 29, 1981. The look was complete with a whopping 25-foot train and a 153-yard tulle veil, which stole the spotlight in the trailer you'll marvel at ahead. It's less than one minute long, but those last three seconds, during which we catch sight of the gown on Emma Corrin, are certainly everything. Now, we even have a still that Netflix released to get giddy over. Not to exaggerate or anything, but how darn excited are you for that episode?

From the look of the poufy three-quarter sleeves - finished with lace - and the ruffle that travels around the neckline to the back of the dress, The Crown's costume designer Amy Roberts was obviously extremely meticulous when it came to reproducing such an iconic royal wedding dress - the resemblance appears to be uncanny. Watch the clip ahead, check out the snapshot, and then see the real photos of Princess Diana on her wedding day.

The Vow: The Surprising Connection Between Catherine Oxenberg and the Royal Family

HBO's The Vow exposes the inner workings of the dark world of NXIVM by shedding light on founder Keith Raniere and former members. Throughout the documentary, we follow Dynasty star Catherine Oxenberg's journey to save her daughter, India, from the clutches of Raniere, but we also discover Oxenberg's surprising relation to the British royal family.

Oxenberg's mom is Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia, who just so happens to be second cousins with Prince Charles, making Oxenberg third cousins with Prince William and Prince Harry. "She's very close with Prince Charles," Oxenberg said about her mom's relationship with the royal in a 2019 interview with Studio 10.

Coincidentally, Oxenberg's breakout role was as Princess Diana in the 1982 TV movie The Royal Romance of Charles and Diana. While this was a big moment for Oxenberg and her career, it actually ended up causing some tension between her and the royal family. On her blog, Oxenberg stated that she received a "severe reprimand in the form of a letter, from the King of Greece, who felt that it was disrespectful for me to impersonate Diana." In her 2019 interview with Studio 10, she added that she hasn't been invited back to Buckingham Palace since then. In fact, Oxenberg's last visit to the palace was actually right before Charles's wedding to Diana in 1981. She also doesn't have any photos with the royals on her Instagram, so it seems their relationship may still be broken.

We Love That The Walking Dead Used a Classic '80s Tune For That Big Escape Plan

On The Walking Dead's season 10 finale Sunday, the key to the survivor community's success comes in the form of a classic Talking Heads tune. In order to "Pied Piper" the horde of walkers under Beta and the Whisperers' control, the community bands together to hook up a stereo on a wagon to lead the walkers off a cliff. Though things don't ultimately go the group's way, we are treated to hundreds of walkers moving slowly to the beat of "Burning Down the House" from 1983's Speaking in Tongues. Even in the face of potential death, Luke is able to get his boogie on as he guards the wagon.

The upbeat song is certainly a departure from their dire circumstances, yet it's also fitting - the world certainly feels like it's burning. Sadly, their plan is foiled and Carol almost sacrifices herself for the good of the group. Luckily, Lydia is able to save her and we can still look back fondly on the tune. You can listen to the full song below.

The Empowering Speech in Lovecraft Country's Most Recent Episode Is Actually Pretty Significant

In Lovecraft Country episode eight, "Jig-a-Bobo," Diana Freeman's finest moment is backed by the empowering words of activist Naomi Wadler. Still trying to process the death of Emmett Till, who in the series is her best friend Bobo, Diana has a run-in with Captain Lancaster who places a curse on her. Because of the curse, she's stalked by demonic versions of Topsy from Uncle Tom's Cabin that only she can see.

Diana spends most of the episode worried that they're going to kill her but rather than giving into Lancaster's demands, she spits in his face and decides she can get rid of them herself. It's at this moment of bravery that Wadler's words, which were originally advocating against gun violence, are heard loud and clear. "For far too long, these black girls and women have been just numbers. I am here to say never again for those girls too. I am here to say everyone should value those girls too." You can watch Wadler's full speech below.

Swooning Over Gabriel and Mathieu? We Debate Which Emily in Paris Romance Makes the Cut

If you've ever seen a show created by Darren Star, you already have a pretty good idea of what the romance situation shapes up to be on Emily in Paris. In season one, we meet Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), an ambitious twenty-something marketing executive from Chicago who unexpectedly lands her dream job in Paris when her company acquires a French luxury marketing company. Earnest Emily - clumsily offending every French resident she comes across - is tasked with revamping the company's social media strategy into something more friendly for American audiences, which leads to a lot of butting heads between her and her coworkers. Luckily, her love life thrives in France - by which I mean, of course, that it quickly becomes a tangled hot mess.

By the first season's finale, Emily's romantic mishaps leave her caught in the web of two very suave European gentlemen: Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), the hot chef neighbor who happens to be dating one of her only two friends in Paris, and Mathieu Cadault (Charles Martins), the hot businessman who runs part of his uncle Pierre's couture house. From those descriptions, you might already have made your decision on which man you think sounds better for young Emily's heart (congratulations, you've rightly chosen my side), but as we all know, love is always so much more complicated than it seems! With that in mind, two POPSUGAR editors have come together to settle the Gabriel-Emily-Mathieu affair like civilized women and debate which duo reigns supreme. We both agree that Emily doesn't need a man, but it's a romantic comedy and we love love, so we're also ready to defend our favorite pairing!

Kelsie Gibson: Throughout the first season, Emily in Paris follows some classic romantic comedy tropes, and Emily and Gabriel's first interaction is no exception. Emily accidentally mistaking Gabriel's apartment for her own is the perfect meet-cute, and from the moment they lock eyes, it's clear they have a connection. As they stumble through their first conversation together, I was blushing right along with them. Their longing looks basically signify that something big is about to happen with these two, and this is just the beginning. As a huge fan of rom-coms, I live for these grand, romantic, and sometimes dramatic love stories. Would I want a relationship like this in real life? No, but this is fiction and sometimes we need a little escapism in our everyday life.

Just like any good rom-com, Emily and Gabriel's relationship is a slow burn as they constantly try to figure out the timing. When she meets Gabriel, Emily is unavailable, but when she finally breaks up with her boyfriend in Chicago (honestly, that was for the best because he was the worst), we find out that Gabriel is actually in a relationship. Even though I know they can't be together, that didn't stop me from shipping them. Out of all of her romantic love interests, Gabriel is, without a doubt, the most charming - and not just because he's easy on the eyes. Compared to the rest of Emily's suitors (who are completely awful, BTW), he seems to genuinely care for Emily as a person. They have such great chemistry from the very start. It's easy for them - that is, until it gets very complicated.

Mekishana Pierre: I am all about the meet-cute and sizzling connections - I just don't understand why we can't have that and healthy relationships at the same time! Emily has a habit of falling fast and hard when she meets a man that she's attracted to, and with Mathieu, it was different. There was the initial attraction, but because they're essentially coworkers, they don't immediately act on it. Mathieu admires Emily's work, her ideas, and her creativity, encouraging her over-the-top ideas when others would scoff at them, and ultimately, trusts her with his family's business.

"I enjoy indulging in the grand, romantic, and dramatic love stories, but I also appreciate the love stories where people just appreciate learning one another."

When they eventually fall into each others' arms, it's not the fireworks display that Emily and Gabriel's nighttime tryst is, instead, it's the warm burn of a campfire, and I like that! Mathieu is a grown man pursuing Emily, he isn't her dirty little secret, and he's taking his time. He's whisking her away for a celebratory trip, not flipping cheater omelets in his apartment. I enjoy indulging in the grand, romantic, and dramatic love stories, but I also appreciate the love stories where people just appreciate learning one another and their troubles don't mean their relationship is toxic. And let's be honest, there will never be a point in time when Emily and Gabriel's relationship can get over how it started, which is while both of them were seeing other people.

Kelsie: Out of all the guys Emily dates in the first season, Mathieu is the most forgettable to me (I literally forgot his name when I was writing this). It's not that he's boring per se, but he and Emily just don't have any sparks. After all the bad guys she has dated, I get that he's the safer bet. He treats her well, he's successful and wants to whisk her off on romantic vacations at a moment's notice, but even Emily has her doubts. Are they compatible? Sure. But will they last in the long run? My guess is no. In the words of Blair Waldorf, "People don't write sonnets about being compatible, or novels about shared life goals and stimulating conversation. The great loves are the crazy ones."

Mekishana: I love the Queen B as much as everyone else, but I would never, ever, ever take relationship advice from her real or fictional!! Her most lasting relationship is the most toxic of them all and that quote was what she said to justify it. (Team Dair forever!) I'm woman enough to agree that Emily and Gabriel have great chemistry, but as soon as she finds out he's dating Camille, it becomes entangled in the forbidden nature of their relationship. Any romanticism gets sullied by how Emily not only kisses Gabriel again, but also how Gabriel seemingly doesn't care about how Camille would feel about him pursuing a friendship with a woman he desires. When Emily and Gabriel make love in the season finale, it's two people knowing they're doing something wrong, even with Gabriel and Camille being "over." Emily is still seeing Mathieu and is also friends with Camille, it's breaking all the rules of friendship there could ever be!

Kelsie: I get that the whole Gabriel-Camille-Emily love triangle is messy. Emily getting together with Camille's boyfriend is breaking some serious girl code. Honestly, I think what I hate most about the love triangle isn't that Gabriel and Emily can't be together, but that Gabriel pretty much led her on. Maybe he was just being nice to her in the beginning, but that doesn't mean he has to let her shower in his apartment? That being said, I also don't think Gabriel should stay with Camille if he honestly doesn't love her anymore. It's not fair for either of them. And if he and Emily think they have something real, they should let Camille know that as well. Maybe they should have waited to spend the night together until after they actually told her? But hey, this is TV and the writers had to leave room for another season.

"I want to see more of her wearing cute clothes, getting less ignorant of French culture, and basking in the joys of having a hot, rich, older boyfriend who treats her well without causing drama."

Mekishana: See, I don't even believe that Emily and Gabriel really have anything special. What do they even know about each other outside of the facts that they're attracted to one another and enjoy good food? Yes, Gabriel cares about Emily and they were good friends for a minute there, but if we're being honest, I think Emily would see the most growth in a relationship with Mathieu than Gabriel. And not just career-wise! Mathieu finds Emily charming, but he also challenges her while encouraging her to learn more about French culture (which she desperately needs to). The older man is steadfast and established, he doesn't need, he wants her - and he doesn't have baggage that will ruin her friendships! We romanticize dramatic relationships so much, we forget how exhausting they are. And Emily and Gabriel have all the ingredients to be super exhausting.

Kelsie: If we're being completely honest, maybe the best thing Emily needs to do is be single for a while and figure out what she truly wants. If the show does get renewed for a second season, I'd love to see her excel at work, have fun adventures with Mindy, and just enjoy Paris without all the romance drama. Maybe after a whole season of self-discovery she'll eventually find her way back to Gabriel? Isn't that the perfect romantic comedy ending anyways?

Mekishana: It depends on your perfect romantic comedy! When I imagine Emily's future seasons, I don't want to spend episodes watching the fallout of her sneaking around with Gabriel and attempting to get Camille to forgive her (you know that's where we're headed). I want to see more of her wearing cute clothes, getting less ignorant of French culture, and basking in the joys of having a hot, rich, older boyfriend who treats her well without causing drama. Her work life is dramatic enough! But either way, just like every other Darren Star creation, I'm going to tune in to see what happens next!
