To recap, the photos are selected by analyzing the photos with the most amount of "likes," in addition to how often each individual photo was favorited and viewed. This year's overall top photo comes from Giacomo della Sera and depicts a calm moment on a river in Aveiro, Portugal. The photo currently has more than 153,000 views, 8,000 faves, and 500 comments and counting!

The Most Powerful Thing You Can Say to Another Mom

A few weeks ago, one of my dearest friends lost her 21-month-old daughter forever when the sweet baby girl died unexpectedly and suddenly. My friend and I live on opposite sides of the country, so I took a trip to visit her for this past weekend. Admittedly, I was a nervous wreck about what I was going to say to her and her husband. How was I going to find the words to comfort them? How would I avoid saying the wrong things? I wanted to find perfect words, and, as I am a writer, words happen to be one of the few ways I truly know how to express myself.

Except I was at a complete loss over her loss. Having two healthy children at home, I felt I couldn't truly relate to her pain, so how on earth was I going to be able to comfort her during a situation that I have very little experience in? Armed with a pocket full of Bible verses and a slough of rehearsed things to say, I walked into her home and could never in a million years have foreseen the life-altering and powerful words that would be spoken between us during our time together. Except the words came from her, to me.

From her. To me.

That's right. My friend, who at this point is proving to be one of the strongest people I know, said something during her time of grief that will forever hold a spot in my heart. It was a phrase so simple, yet it has hit a chord deep inside of me. As she was describing the events leading up to the death of her daughter, she tried to express to me her complete heartbreak as she held her sweet child in the hospital during the minutes and hours after she died. Describing the time only as her worst nightmare, she said to me with tears rolling down her face, "You're a mom, you know."

You're a mom, you know.

This phrase took my breath away - as well as any composure that I had managed to keep together up until then. Because it was at that point, with that phrase, that I was able to start to understand the magnitude of her sorrow. Sure, I was completely heartbroken for her before, as death is difficult for anyone. But I'll admit that I didn't fully understand my role as her friend or as a fellow mom. See, all this time I had been looking in the wrong places for the perfect thing to say to her while I should have just looked at our simplest bond: motherhood. And while I have not experienced the pain that comes along with losing a child, I do understand the joy that she once experienced from holding her child. And to lose that? There are no words

Except maybe "I'm a mom, I know."

Losing a child is every mom's worst fear - no matter who you are or what kind of mom you choose to be. In the days since, I've been keeping this simple thought in mind when relating myself to other mommies. Sure, we all have our different ways of mothering and raising our families, but we do have one thing in common: our hearts are directly connected to our children. It makes the whole mommy wars thing seem, well, totally ridiculous.

You're a mom, you know.

So as I went with my own mom, who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, to her radiation treatment, I glanced over at the young mother of a small boy in the waiting room. He was maybe 3 years old (though it's hard to tell because he was so tiny). He sported a colorful Superman cape and a bland hospital mask as he sat cradled in his mom's arms. She said something quietly to him. My heart stopped. This mom ached for that mom. And the tears started to fall from my eyes despite me not knowing her one bit. Despite me only sitting in the waiting room for maybe 30 seconds. Despite my own mom sitting next to me about to have her own radiation treatment. This is crazy, I thought. I don't even know this woman.

But what I do know is that I'm a mom.

And later I was getting dinner at a takeout restaurant, and one of the employees was on the phone in the restroom. She was struggling to find a babysitter for her child while she finished her late shift. She was frantic. She was upset. She was mad. My heart skipped another beat, and the tears welled up in my eyes once again.

I know, I'm a mom.

As I went back to my mom's house, heartbroken over my friend's loss, my mother was trying to comfort me. Asking if I was OK. Me! She was the one going through radiation, I should be comforting her. And then it dawned on me as to why she was so worried about how I was doing.

She knows, she's a mom.

And on the plane on the ride home there was a new mom standing with her infant son nearly the whole four-and-a-half-hour flight because if she attempted to sit down, he wailed. She looked exhausted and frustrated. She checked her watch frequently, but she also kept on task all while kissing on his little bald head.

I know, I'm a mom.

See, it's a thread that unites us all. Helicopter moms. Free-range moms. Breastfeeding moms. Formula-feeding moms. Rich moms. Poor moms. Moms of sick kids. Moms of healthy kids. Moms. The crazy, heart-stopping love that we feel for our children runs deep through each and every one of us as moms.

And this knowledge is painful at times. It's why every sappy commercial brings us to tears. It's why we can't watch the news. It's why we get in the car and cry after we drop our kids off to their first day of school. It's why food allergies are terrifying. It's why our hearts ache when we hear about miscarriage or fertility problems. It's why we are up at night worrying about our teens. It's why the thought of our children eventually leaving the nest makes us weep into our coffee. It's why the death of another mother's child is so utterly heartbreaking . . .

It's also why we should always provide a blanket of support to all fellow moms. Not only to those who are suffering through the unimaginable pain of losing a child, but also to those mamas going through plain ol' rough times . . . and even those moms who are just having one of those days. Hug her, and if you are struggling to find the right words, all you may really need to say is, "I know, I'm a mom."

But you probably already know this. After all, you're a mom.

Dr. Harvey Karp Knows What Babies Need to Sleep Through the Night - and Now Has a Product to Do It

It's the one thing that new parents just can't prepare for, regardless of how many products they buy. The sleep deprivation they experience can be nothing short of torture - after all, militaries around the world use the technique to interrogate prisoners - making it detrimental to parents' mental and physical health. And while there are plenty of products on the market that try to lull newborns and infants to sleep, few give parents the hours-long stretches they really need.

"Parents today have a harder job than ever before," Dr. Harvey Karp, author of the wildly popular The Happiest Baby series of parenting guides, says. "Up to 50 years ago, you had five nannies . . . a whole network of hands to hold your baby. With most families having two working parents, it's exhausting." After more than 30 years of helping parents through the difficult "fourth trimester" - the term Dr. Karp gives for babies' first three months of life - he is moving beyond the pages of his books and videos and building products based on the success of his international bestsellers, the first of which launches today.

The Happiest Baby SNOO may be the world's most technologically advanced bassinet, incorporating Dr. Karp's famed five S's into product form. A beautiful sleeper on its own with a modern wood and mesh design, the bassinet features a mattress that produces white noise and "swings" up to one-half inch each direction to help lull babies to sleep. Hidden microphones detect a waking baby and signal the sleeper to respond with increasing sound and motion, basically providing the same response parents would when a newborn fusses in the middle of the night. Should a baby fuss for more than three minutes, the bassinet shuts off, signaling that the baby is distressed by something that needs parental involvement - a diaper change or a feeding.

"You wouldn't bring your baby into bed if you were drunk," he says, so why would you bring your baby into bed when you're exhausted?
But perhaps the most unique feature on the SNOO is the sleep sack Dr. Karp developed to ensure that newborns stay on their backs throughout the night. The SNOO Sack replaces the swaddle - which has a tendency to come undone, making new parents nervous about suffocation - with a tight sleep sack with "wings" that attach to the sides of the bassinet. Although the design is unusual, it's also practical, making it impossible for a baby to flip over onto his or her stomach overnight.

The SNOO is the first of what Dr. Karp hopes will be an entire line of products created to help parents seamlessly ease the newest member of their family into their home. And it comes at a price. The entire system - including two sizes of swaddlers - will cost $1,160 and is now available at high-end home and baby emporiums. But Dr. Karp says $7 a day - what the SNOO will cost if it is used for the first six months of a baby's life, as it's intended - is a small price to pay for the peace of mind knowing your baby is safe and comfortable.

"Seventy percent of parents will bring their baby into bed with them when [the baby] cries out in the middle of the night," Dr. Karp says. He equates this phenomenon with "drunk parenting" - parents being so sleep-deprived that their brains operate as if they are drunk. "You wouldn't bring your baby into bed if you were drunk," he says, so why would you bring your baby into bed when you're exhausted? Though the SNOO won't magically help a baby sleep through the night, it will give parents more consecutive hours of sleep and teach a newborn about sleep cues that will train them to sleep on their own when they're ready to do so.

As a mom who would have done pretty much anything to get her baby to fall back asleep at 4 a.m., the SNOO sounds like a miracle in the making. In fact, as a mom who fully subscribed to Dr. Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block philosophy - and gives the book to every new parent she meets - it sounds like he's ready to add a sixth S to the philosophy - SNOO.

  3. Workouts you hate: Not everyone likes running, and that's OK. Forcing yourself into a workout that you hate definitely won't encourage you to keep working out. There are alternatives to running - and so many other kinds of cardio exercises. If you hate bootcamp classes, try barre. Hate barre? Stop doing it! Try yoga. If something's not working, try a new studio or new instructor. Keep going until you find something that clicks, but absolutely do not keep going to a class or attempting a workout you don't like.
  4. Exercising to "fix" or change a part of your body: Working out because you "hate" your body is the worst thing you can do. Exercise makes you feel good - it celebrates your body, makes you feel empowered, and sends a rush of feel-good endorphins through your body. Working out will boost your energy, improve your health, and can change your mood for the better, alongside so many other benefits. Celebrate your body, don't try to "fix" it.
  5. Kale (or that one food you just can't stand): A lot of you hate kale. So stop forcing it! You don't need kale to be healthy! Maybe it's not kale, but it's another healthy food you've been forcing yourself to eat under the pretense that it's healthy and you "need it" to be healthy yourself. This just isn't true, and if your diet consists of things you don't love, you're not going to stay on that diet for very long. 6- and 7-Year-Olds Couldn't Solve This Math Test Question, and We're Not Surprised

The internet is having a field day figuring out what the real answer is to a simple math problem. A Twitter user named Louise Bloxham shared a math problem from a Year 2 (equivalent to the first grade in the US) workbook. The tweet and account are now gone but the problem asked, "There were some people on a train. 19 people get off the train at the first stop. 17 people get on the train. Now there are 63 people on the train. How many people were on the train to begin with?"

If you try solving it yourself, you'll probably get this setup: X - 19 + 17 = 63. All you have to do is solve for x, which gives you 65 as the answer:

But if you look further into the comments, users start arguing that the answer is 46, not 65.

Other commentators became philosophical and said that the math problem fails to factor in the train driver and inspector:

The situation apparently became too much for one person, who said that everyone was "looking at it algebraically for proof purposes," when it was really just a simple equation.

Although the math question has stumped some parents and young children, the main concern here is not whether or not it can be solved, but if 6- and 7-year-olds should've been asked it. That answer to that question is simple: if there's this much debate about it with adults, then it's not suitable for children.

"There is a saying about wine that I really like and it's something like this," he said. "'The first glass of wine is all about the food, the second glass is about love, and the third glass is about mayhem.' I really wanted to see it for myself if that affirmation was in fact true."

Marcos kicked off the photo series by inviting his friends over to drink and mingle after a long work day. The photographer would snap an initial photo of his sober guests, followed by a photo after every drink.

"Nothing fancy, a face and a wall, 3 times," he said.

Through this amazing idea, Marcos was able to create stunning portraits of each of his guests in their different stages of alcohol consumption. Almost everyone had the same expressions in their first photos, but you can really see each person's joie de vivre by their second or third drink. These snaps will remind you that sometimes you just have to slow down, have a glass of wine (or two), and surround yourself with good company. Todd Fisher is currently dealing with the heartbreak of losing his sister, Carrie Fisher, and mom, Debbie Reynolds, within one day of each other earlier this week. While celebrities, former costars, and fans have been offering their support in a number of ways, Todd opened up about how he's coping in an interview with 20/20 on Friday. Todd, who also recently shared a beautiful drawing of Carrie and Debbie reuniting in Heaven, talked with Elizabeth Vargas about the legacy the two women leave behind.   • "From the family's perspective, this is Debbie's destiny. She didn't want to leave Carrie and did not want to her to be alone. My mother had said, 'I don't want to attend my daughter's funeral.' [While planning Carrie's funeral], she said she wanted to be with Carrie."
  • "[Debbie] didn't die of a broken heart. She just left to be with Carrie...Carrie was a force of nature in her own right, you know. It took another force of nature to bridle and work with that and she was great with her."
  • "It wasn't that [Debbie] was sitting around inconsolable - not at all. She simply said that she didn't get to see Carrie come back from London. She expressed how much she loved my sister. She then said she really wanted to be with Carrie. In those precise words, and within 15 minutes from that conversation, she faded out. Within 30 minutes, she technically was gone. She started to have a stroke, and she just effectively went to sleep and didn't wake up. She closed her eyes, peacefully like you're going to sleep, and she literally went to sleep and left. My mother, if anybody, had somehow a way to do that, and I watched it happen in front of my face. I was on her bed with her, and I watched her leave and go to Carrie. God said, 'Get up here, and give us a hand.'"
  • Todd said that Carrie "was at the top of her game" earlier this month while promoting her new projects, including her new memoir, The Princess Diarist, in England. "She was excited about Christmas. Her favorite thing to do was give out gifts. She always had the most amazing things for everybody."
  • "We thought we might be able to save [Carrie] - that was in play for a little while. [It was] not a sure thing, by any means, but [Debbie] felt she had already left the building, so to speak."
  • Todd revealed that the mother and daughter will be laid to rest next to each other. "It's horrible, it's beautiful, it's magical. They're together."
