"Since everyone has a different face shape and bone structure, it's important for women to understand that lash extensions need to be personalized," Richardson explains. Your natural lashes will also dictate how dramatic your finished look will be. "People who already have damaged lashes or those that have naturally weak, short natural lashes [can't always get as dramatic of a look] as a client with superstrong, thick lashes," she says.

That said, you can still achieve a gorgeous, fluttery fringe as long as you keep your expectations reasonable and your standards high. This may mean that you pay a little bit more for better quality: lashes can cost anywhere between $100 to $500 and have to be filled in every two to three weeks.

If you're dealing with a bit of sticker shock, Richardson says to be sure to remember that you get what you pay for. "Do not go for the cheapest price, and make sure the studio you choose is licensed and certified to apply lash extensions," she cautions. "You will 100 percent notice a difference, as it's the quality, skill, and artistry that matters most with this type of a service." After all, if you want a quality tattoo or gorgeous hair color, you wouldn't hunt for a bargain. The same rule applies when seeking out a lash tech.
