She says it helps crisp up the exterior without soaking too much into the dough. Once the doughnuts are fried, Ree coats them in a homemade glaze, made from powdered sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and water.
Though The Pioneer Woman only shows how to make glazed doughnuts, if you want, you can dip them in a chocolate glaze, coat the doughnuts in toasted coconut flakes, or top them with traditional frosting and rainbow sprinkles. Anything goes!
