Kim Kardashian's Terrifying Robbery: A Timeline

This post has been updated with new information.

Kim Kardashian experienced her own (and everyone else's) worst nightmare on Oct. 2 when she was robbed and held at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room while in town for the Paris Fashion Week shows. Thankfully, the reality star survived the incident unscathed, although the details that continue to emerge about what happened to her are each more disturbing than the last. Here is everything that you need to know about the situation thus far:

  1. Kanye West ends his concert early due to a "family emergency." The rapper was in the midst of performing at the Meadows Festival in Queens, NY, on Oct. 2 when he stopped singing and apologized to the audience that he had to cut his set short because of a family emergency, shocking the crowd.
  2. News leaks that the family emergency in question is Kim being robbed in Paris. At around 3 a.m. in Paris, Kim was held hostage and robbed at gunpoint in her luxury apartment at the No Address Hotel - a private mansion where her husband has owned a space since 2011 - where she had been staying all week. Although popular with celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, the residence's only security measures are a receptionist at the door and "a nightman."
  3. Kim's representatives release a statement about the incident. "Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening by two armed masked men dressed as police officers," her reps told The Hollywood Reporter on Oct. 2. "She is badly shaken but physically unharmed."
  4. The French Interior Ministry speaks out. The security organization said that five men were involved; they wore ski masks and forced the concierge to give them access to Kim's private apartment, where two of the men then entered. After the robbery, the attackers fled on bicycles, and according to Us Weekly, officials believe the robbery was committed by a "highly organized" gang.
  5. The Paris prosecutor's office reveals how much Kim lost in the robbery. On the Today show, it was confirmed that the reality star's wedding ring (though not her engagement ring) and her jewelry box, worth over $10 million, were stolen. Two smartphones were also among the items lost.
  6. A source comes forward to shed chilling details about the nature of the robbery. According to one of E!'s sources, Kim was bound and gagged during the incident, before being handcuffed and threatened with a gun. "She begged for them to let her live and [said] she has babies at home. Then they wrapped her mouth in tape and put her in the bathtub," they said. "She thought they were for sure going to kill her."
  7. Kim leaves Paris aboard her private jet. TMZ reports that an understandably upset Kim left Paris in a hurry after what she called "the worst moment in my life."
  8. Kim lands safely in NYC. Though missing her wedding ring, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star landed safely in NYC on Monday morning, where she was spotted walking into her apartment building in Manhattan with Kanye by her side. Upon landing, she reportedly traveled with a security-heavy entourage of 10 vehicles and 15-20 bodyguards.
  9. A source says Kim has been worried about this for a long time. "This was one of Kim's biggest fears," a source told People, adding that she was hysterical while relaying the details of what happened to Kanye. "She's always known the threats are out there, but for something to happen, it's almost unimaginable. It's going to take her a very long time to feel safe again."
  10. A suspect is called in for questioning, while the apartment Kim was robbed in is investigated by forensic officers. Us Weekly discovered that a photographer had been obsessively following the Kardashians around Paris Fashion Week days earlier and was even able to get inside the restaurant they were dining in by dressing up as a policeman (the same method the thieves later used to gain access to her building). French police also have the residence surrounded and are thoroughly investigating the space for traces to nail the perpetrators with the help of a forensic officer.
  11. Kanye reschedules his tour dates. On Oct. 3, Live Nation released a statement on the singer's behalf, saying, "Due to family concerns, this week's Philadelphia and Detroit dates on the Saint Pablo tour have been rescheduled." The two shows will now take place on Dec. 13 and Dec. 22, respectively, and the tour will officially resume on Oct. 7.
  12. Kim feared she was going to be raped. "The reports of her fear of being raped are real," a source told People. "She really did think she was going to be raped. She had a gun to her head the whole time."
  13. Kim might have been followed while in Paris. Us Weekly reported that the perpetrators might have been tailing Kim all week dressed as a detective and a photographer. The Daily Mail also posted footage of an unidentified man driving a gray Fiat 500 weaving through traffic in an attempt to follow the car Kim was riding in after attending a fitting with Kanye and Kourtney. He reportedly followed them to a restaurant, where he was denied entrance to even after telling people there that he was a police officer, which lines up with allegations saying she was robbed by people dressed as law enforcement.
  14. Paris police search for a mysterious black limo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, police have recovered surveillance footage from a shoe store across the street from where Kim was staying, which shows a black limo with tinted windows circling the area around the time that she was robbed.
  15. Filming for Keeping Up With the Kardashians gets put on hold. On Oct. 6, news broke that the popular E! reality series has been placed "on hold indefinitely". New episodes from the 12th season that have already been filmed will resume on Oct. 23.
  16. The robbers may have chosen Kim as their target because of Kanye. It was revealed on Oct. 7 that after breaking into the apartment building, the men asked the concierge in French, "Where's the rapper's wife?" This could possibly mean that the suspects, who reportedly arrived and left the scene on bicycles, may not have known Kim by name, but rather through Kanye and his fame.
  17. The men knew what they were doing. A source told People that it was "a very well-coordinated robbery" and that they left essentially no DNA evidence.
  18. Kanye resumes his Saint Pablo Tour. On Oct. 7, the rapper returned to the stage in his hometown of Chicago and told the crowd, "It's good to be home." Kim was also spotted arriving back in LA earlier in the day.
  19. Kim's diamond cross necklace is found. After one of Kim's platinum-mounted jewelry pieces was found outside of her Paris hotel on Monday, Us Weekly reported that the robbers deliberately dropped the necklace in an attempt to con the police into thinking they were amateurs. The burglars reportedly set up a "double bluff" escape ruse in which one of the men fell off his bicycle, while another pretended to accidentally drop a piece of jewelry as they fled. Paris police told the publication, "They wanted us to believe that they were amateurs, but all the real clues point to them being extremely sophisticated professionals. There is no way a gang like this would drop stuff and fall off bicycles. All that was done for any cameras that might be in the area. It is far more likely that they played around on bikes for a few minutes after stealing the jewels and when they still had their masks on, before they all got into a van and disappeared."
  20. Kim is a no-show at the Keeping Up With the Kardashians season 12 wrap party. The Kardashian-Jenner family celebrated the end of the show's 12th season with a party on Oct.11, and naturally, the family shared photos from the event on Instagram. Noticeably missing from the pictures was Kim, who's been keeping a low profile since the robbery.
  21. Kim cancels her Las Vegas club appearance. On Oct. 12, E! News revealed that Kim had canceled her annual birthday appearance at Hakkasan nightclub in Las Vegas. A rep for the club told the news outlet, "Given recent circumstances, Kim Kardashian will be unable to make her previously scheduled appearance at Hakkasan Las Vegas Nightclub."
  22. Kim receives an apology from a website that claimed she lied about the robbery. After suing MediaTakeOut.com for saying Kim lied about her Paris incident, the site released an apology, stating, "We can understand how reports questioning if the robbery in fact took place can be hurtful, and so we apologize. No one deserves to go through such a traumatic experience. Kim is not just celebrity, she is a person, a wife and a mother - who in no way deserved what happened to her."
  23. Kim's assistant says the reality TV star is taking some time off. On Oct. 17, Stephanie Sheppard shared a handwritten letter on Kim's website announcing that "Keeks is taking some much needed time off." She continued, "But not to worry we've called upon Kim's closest friends, fam and yours truly to save up some exclusives. Stay tuned for new posts and app takeovers!! Thank you so much for your support for my girl. Love you mean it."
  24. Hotel de Pourtalès's concierge blames lack of security for the robbery. The concierge on duty during Kim's robbery, known only as Abdulrahman, opened up about the whole ordeal during an interview with the Daily Mail. "There was no real security at all," he said. "It's a choice. The hotel doesn't mind about security. We told them years and years before, you have to make a camera, you have to put [in place] a security process, about keys. Nothing was locked, there was no proper security there. Everyone knew it." He also said that even though he emailed his bosses about getting better security in 2010, the security codes had not been changed in six years and there were no functioning security cameras in place. Following the incident, Abdulrahman said that he plans to take legal action against the hotel.
  25. The hotel concierge reveals more horrifying details about Kim's robbery. During an interview with the Daily Mail, Abdulrahman revealed that he was forced to unlock the door to Kim's room with a spare key and he was there with the star when she was robbed. While Kim pleaded with the robbers to spare her life, Abdulrahman said he tried his best to keep her calm. "She began to scream again," he said. "That's why he put the tape on her mouth. A long piece of tape, all the way round her head." He added that the robbers left right away when they saw that Kim's bodyguard was calling her phone.
  26. Kourtney breaks her silence on Kim's terrifying robbery. During a video interview with Australia's Today Extra on Oct. 19, Kourtney opened up about how Kim is doing, revealing, "She's not doing great. I think we're all really still shaken up and I just - you know, I think she has a big, supportive family and I know that all the traumatic things that we've been through, we get through them together as a family, and that's what family's all about."
  27. Security footage of Kim's robbers surfaces. The five alleged robbers were captured on video by street-side cameras obtained by France's M6 news as they made their getaway on bicycles and foot. They are seen approaching the hotel at 2:19 a.m. and leaving 49 minutes later. According to M6 news, Paris police currently have no leads on their identities.
  28. The hotel concierge reveals that the robbers weren't after jewels. During an interview with ET, Abdulrahman reveals that the robbers continued to demand money even after taking Kim's wedding ring. "She believed that they were there for her ring," he explained. "She showed her hand . . . there is no ring, and the guy is like, 'Where is the ring?' At that moment she gave him her ring -- it was on a table close to the floor -- she gave her ring to the guy ... and he put it in his pocket. For him, it was just a ring, I think ... he didn't stop asking for money. They weren't there for jewels at first, they were there for money."
  29. Kim returns to social media and then deletes her posts. On Oct. 31, the reality star shared three posts on Facebook before quickly deleting them all. An Us Weekly insider adds that the posts were actually an error. "She's still figuring out when is the right time for her to come back."
  30. Kim and Kanye fire their longtime bodyguard. Entertainment Tonight reports that the power couple has terminated their relationship with bodyguard Pascal Duvier. Pascal first came in contact with the family when he started working with Kanye in 2012, and a year later he began working with Kim. A source told ET that "Pascal, along with a couple other security members of their team, were recently let go by Kim and Kanye. It's a pretty tough situation overall and they love Pascal, but they couldn't take any more chances."
  31. Police arrest suspects who may be connected to her robbery. According to French magazine Le Monde, authorities arrested 14 men and three women. A source tells E! News that a man named Pierre, the alleged ringleader of the heist, was arrested after officers broke down the gate of his villa in Plascassier in the South of France. Several suspects are reportedly still being held for questioning in France.
  32. Kim's limo driver is released without criminal charges. TMZ and other French outlets report that the limo driver who chauffeured Kim in Paris, Michael Madar, was released from police custody on Jan. 10 without criminal charges. The private luxury limousine company also told TMZ that he was only brought in for "testimony purposes only" and had nothing to do with the actual crime.
  33. Four suspects are charged with the robbery. Of the initial suspects French police arrested, four have been formally charged with the crime, including the 27-year-old brother of the limo driver Kim used while visiting Paris. The Paris prosecutor's office confirmed to NBC News that he has been released by the judge investigating the robbery, but must check in regularly with the authorities and remain under judicial control. The three other men are in provisional detainment, and the rest of the remaining suspects will face a decision on Jan. 13.
  34. Kim's police statement is released. On Jan. 15, French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche published Kim's police statement, which was reportedly given to authorities less than two hours after her robbery. Her statement reads as follows:

I heard a noise at the door, like, footsteps, and I shouted to ask who was there, but no one answered. I called my bodyguard at 2:56 a.m. Then, beyond the sliding doors, I saw two people arrive with the gentleman from reception, and he was tied up. Both men were hooded, one had a ski mask and he had a cap and a jacket with "police" on it. The second man had the same "police" clothes, but did not have any ski mask . . . It was the one with the ski mask who stayed with me. He had a strong French accent and asked me for my ring [in English]. He looked at what was on the bedside table. It was worth $4 million. He took out a gun and I showed him the ring. He had gloves. He asked me where the jewels and the money were, and at that point, they tied me up and put plastic cables and scotch tape on my hands, and then taped my mouth and my legs. During the theft, they had the hotel's mobile phone that did not stop ringing, and they spoke in French. I got the impression they were saying they had to leave.

  35. Kim testifies for her robbery case. On Feb. 2, Kim spent the day with French authorities in NYC as they investigated her Paris heist. The day before, she also met with a French judge and attorneys.
