The 2 Surprising Reasons This Baby's Birth Was Incredibly Rare

Whether this is your first or tenth time seeing a baby born en caul, the images and videos are always incredible.

This phenomenon occurs when a baby's amniotic sac doesn't rupture and they are born still encased in the protective bubble. Only one in every 80,000 births are en caul, and this remarkable state usually doesn't last long. When Brezi Merryman was photographing a second-time mom's home birth, she was lucky enough to not only witness but capture this rare type of delivery.

However, that wasn't the only thing that made this family's birth memorable. Their baby was also born naturally on his due date, which only occurs in an estimated five percent of deliveries. For both of these instances to occur during the same delivery, everyone was left amazed by this special bundle of joy's unique entrance to the world.

As Brezi photographed this baby emerging from the water as his amniotic sac burst, she was reminded of the last time she witnessed a delivery this incredible: that same day exactly a year before. Check out more images from these remarkable births ahead.
