The Unexpected Reason Makeup Artists Are Protecting Their Beautyblenders With Condoms
If an effort to re-create the impressively efficient SiliSponge makeup blender, vloggers and makeup aficionados across the internet are hacking their Beautyblender sponges by tucking them inside condoms. Yep, you read that correctly, condoms. While we never thought we'd be rubbing our faces with makeup-covered latex, it's proving to be quite the logical tactic for application. Beauty vlogger Laila Tahri tested out the condom trick for her followers and was pleasantly surprised.
"I came up with this idea because I love using a sponge, but it absorbs so much product," Laila explained on Instagram. "Using the condom around it, it doesn't absorb any product and it applies super smooth!"
In the same way that the popular silicone sponge doesn't absorb foundation, the latex condom prevents the Beautyblender from soaking up makeup and reportedly guarantees a smooth application. If you're worried about how lubrication could possibly work well with your favorite foundatino formula, you're not alone. Laila points out that the most important thing to do before trying this technique is to clean off the condom's spermicide and lubricant, and then it's time to get to work.
Keep reading to see Laila's full tutorial using a condom to apply her foundation, and then see more possibilities of condoms for makeup application.
