We Tried the New Chocolate Strawberry Oreos So You Definitely Don't Have To

We are no longer shocked when Oreo comes out with eyebrow-raising flavors (remember Swedish Fish Oreos?), so when the news of Chocolate Strawberry Oreos broke, we thought, "OK, we can get down with those." Just in time for Valentine's Day, the limited-edition Oreos have the creamy chocolate filling you're familiar with, but with a pink, strawberry-flavored dollop of icing right in the middle. Having just devoured a sweet delivery of chocolate-covered strawberries from Shari's Berries, I hoped the Oreos would deliver similar results to my palette.

The first thing I noticed is that the fruity smell hits you as soon as you open the package. "Very perfumey," I thought as I pulled back the plastic and got a whiff. Although the strawberry scent is strong, the strawberry flavor is not nearly as prominent. Most of us agreed that the cookies taste like regular Chocolate Oreos with a hint of artificial strawberry and a slightly chemical-like aftertaste. "They taste like the strawberry ice cream you get from the ice cream truck as a kid," one editor thought. Overall, we have to say these are best described as "meh." Not the worst Oreo we've ever tried, but certainly not the best.

If you're eyeing these Oreos on shelves as you're thinking about your Valentine's Day plans, I'd recommend skipping these and making your own chocolate-covered strawberries instead.
