Director Greg Nicotero Opens Up About TWD's "Emotional" Season Finale

You might think you know what's in store for The Walking Dead's season 7 finale, but one of the show's producers promises that it will be the best one yet. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Greg Nicotero, who directed the finale episode, explained why the tensions between Rick and the Negan's army will finally reach its boiling point.

"I think it's one of the best scripts that we've ever produced, just in terms of pure character arc," Nicotero confessed. "And it really sums up the trajectory of the second half of the season perfectly. A lot of the questions, and a lot of the things that we spent time cultivating over the first half of the season and the second half of the season, definitely come to a head."

When asked about filming the highly anticipated finale, Nicotero shared, "It was a f*cking bear, man. We had about a five-day prep and a 10-day shoot, and we were moving, literally, on pure instinct . . . Having been in the trenches with these guys so many times before, it was exciting and every single day, on set, we had fun and we got a chance to do a lot of great emotional stuff, a lot of great action stuff, sort of weaving all of these pieces together, and I f*cking loved every second of it."

This comes after The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie on the show, teased the season 7 finale as "incredibly bittersweet, beautiful, and heartbreaking."

Guess we will just have to wait and see how it all unfolds on April 2. And a friendly reminder to Greg Nicotero: if Daryl dies, we will riot!
