A Political Commenter Just Compared Trump to MLK and, Well, It Didn't Turn Out So Great

President Donald Trump is comparable to many people and things, but Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is undoubtedly not one of them. However, a political pundit ventured to do exactly that on CNN the morning of April 13. Jeffrey Lord, who has repeatedly praised Trump, claimed that Trump was the "Martin Luther King of health care." Symone Sanders, the contributor Lord was addressing, shared a video of the moment on Twitter.

"Think of Donald Trump as the Martin Luther King of health care," Lord said to Sanders and anchor Alisyn Camerota. "When I was a kid, President Kennedy did not want to introduce the civil rights bill because he said it wasn't popular and he didn't have the votes for it."

Sanders was expectedly appalled and responded accordingly. "You do understand that Dr. King was marching for civil rights because people that looked like me were being beaten, dogs were being sicced on them, basic human rights were being withheld from these people merely because of the color of their skin," Sanders replied. "So let's not equate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize winner, to the vagina-grabbing president, Donald Trump."

The internet was equally as incensed with Lord's remark and many were quick to criticize both him and CNN for providing him a platform to air his inflammatory opinions from. Take a look at some highlights from the Twitter clapback parade below.
