A Train Employee Had a Perfect Clapback to a Racist Passenger
When one train ticket officer encountered a racist passenger on board, she wasn't about to let him get away with his derogatory comments - and now she's going viral for her applause-worthy clapback.
On April 10, Australian Nicholas John used social media to inform the world about the reportedly shocking conversation he observed between a ticket officer and a racist traveler. As John explained in his now-viral Facebook post that has more than 5,000 "likes" and 1,000 shares, it all started when the train employee (who John refers to as "Opal Lady" because Opal is an Australian public transportation company) approached an Argentinian man. The man apparently bought a bus ticket instead of one for the train. John explained how the man looked "genuinely remorseful that he had broken the rules" and that his broken English left him confused about the whole mixup.
Then, a nearby passenger cut in and said to the Opal Lady, "Fine him, love. F*cking foreigners," and turned to the man to say, "F*ck off back to Iran mate." The ticket officer was obviously not pleased, as she apologized to the Argentinian for the other man's comments and printed him a train pass for the day. The train was filled with a "smattering of applause" as the Opal Lady walked away, explained John. However, those cheers became even louder when she returned, this time with other officers who were there to rightfully boot the racist passenger off the train.
But that's not even the best part. When the man asked her what her reasoning for kicking him off was, her answer was beyond glorious, as she quietly responded, "Being a c*nt." Talk about a burn.
This unfortunately isn't the first example of racism on public transportation that we've heard about, but it's courageous people like the Opal Lady who give us hope that they'll be nonexistent in the near future.
We have reached out to Nicholas John for further comment on the incident and will update this post when we hear back.
